Abstract: The present research is based on teaching practices within the interdisciplinary science project of the Pailleron middle school (Paris, France). The particularity studied is the implementation by teachers of technology, PC, SVT of sessions in all the disciplines of sciences (SVT, PC, technology...) with students of 6ème, of very heterogeneous levels. A preliminary phase of interviews made it possible to identify the difficulties that the teachers encounter in carrying out these sessions. They indicated that they were at a loss when faced with the sometimes technical vocabulary and the links established between the activities or concepts when the session was developed by a teacher from another discipline. This study made it possible to understand how this project worked, to identify the tools developed, and to address the difficulties encountered. We were able to observe and analyze difficulties in the characterization of knowledge within a life science session through the use of the PCK (Pedagogical Content of Knowledge) theoretical framework and the TACD (Theory of Joint Action in Didactics). The analysis of these data is used to model efficient tools to overcome these difficulties., La présente recherche, s'articule autour de pratiques enseignantes au sein du projet interdisciplinaire de Sciences du collège Pailleron (Paris, France). La particularité étudiée est la mise en place par des enseignants de technologie, de PC, de SVT de séances dans toutes les disciplines de sciences (SVT, PC, technologie...) auprès d'élèves de 6ème, de niveaux très hétérogènes. Une phase préliminaire d’entretiens a permis de déceler les difficultés que les enseignants rencontrent dans la réalisation de ces séances. Ils indiquent être démunis face à un vocabulaire parfois technique, aux liens établis entre les activités ou les notions lorsque la séance a été élaborée par un enseignant d’une autre discipline. Cette étude a permis de comprendre le fonctionnement de ce projet, de recenser les outils élaborés, d'aborder les difficultés rencontrées. Nous avons pu observer et analyser des difficultés dans la caractérisation des savoirs au sein d’une séance de SVT à travers l’utilisation du cadre théorique PCK (Pedagogical Content of Knowledge et de la TACD (Théorie de l’Action Conjointe en Didactique). L’analyse de ces données servant à modéliser des outils efficients permettant de pallier à ces difficultés.

Abstract: Metalworking fluids (MWF) are mainly emulsions of oil in water containing additives such as corrosion inhibitors, emulsifiers, defoamers, and biocides. Microbial contamination of MWF is almost systematic, and some of their constituents serve as nutrients for contaminating microorganisms. Biocides for MWF are protection products used to counter microbial contaminations and growth. Ideally, a biocide for MWF should have the following non-exhaustive criteria: have a broad-spectrum activity, be usable at low concentrations, be compatible with the formulation and the physical-chemical properties of MWF, be stable over time, retain its effectiveness in the presence of soiling, have no corrosive action on metals, present no danger to humans and the environment, be inexpensive. The future lies in the development of new molecules with biocidal activity corresponding to these ideal specifications, but in the meantime, it is possible to improve the performance of existing molecules currently on the market. Different strategies for potentiation of the activity of existing biocides are possible. The compatibility of the potentiation strategies with their use in metal working fluids is discussed.

Abstract: La recherche que nous menons cherche à comprendre ce qui se joue entre les acteurs (élèves, enseignant) et qui pourrait éclairer certaines difficultés à faire apprendre des mathématiques dans le contexte de l’adaptation scolaire. Pour ce faire, nous étudions en particulier la dimension sémiotique de l’activité mathématique. Le support est une situation d’apprentissage de la numération décimale, proposée à trois élèves handicapés atteints de déficience intellectuelle dans un Institut Médico-Éducatif. Les analyses s’appuient sur les différents signes activés lors des interactions, lorsqu’ils font des mathématiques (Arzarello, 2006 ; Radford, 2003). L’étude pointe la présence de « malentendus sémiotiques » et le rôle des interactions, y compris sociales, entre élèves ou avec l’enseignante dans l’activité. The research we are conducting seeks to understand what is being played out between the actors (students, teacher) which could enlighten us on some difficulties for teaching mathematics in special education. It explores the semiotic dimension of mathematical activity. In this paper a learning situation of the decimal numeration is proposed to three students with intellectual disabilities in a Medical-Educational Institute. The analyse is based on the different signs activated (Arzarello, 2006 ; Radford, 2003) through interactions between students during a brief episode. The study points out the presence of "semiotic misunderstandings" and the role of interactions in the activity, including social interactions, between students or with the teacher.

Abstract: The power spectrum response function of the large-scale structure of the Universe describes how the evolved power spectrum is modified by a small change in initial power through non-linear mode coupling of gravitational evolution. It was previously found that the response function for the coupling from small to large scales is strongly suppressed in amplitude, especially at late times, compared to predictions from perturbation theory (PT) based on the single-stream approximation. One obvious explanation for this is that PT fails to describe the dynamics beyond shell-crossing. We test this idea by comparing measurements in $N$-body simulations to prescriptions based on PT but augmented with adaptive smoothing to account for the formation of non-linear structures of various sizes in the multi-stream regime. We first start with one-dimensional (1D) cosmology, where the Zel'dovich approximation provides the exact solution in the single stream regime. Similarly to the 3D case, the response function of the large-scale modes exhibits a strong suppression in amplitude at small scales which cannot be explained by the Zel'dovich solution alone. However, by performing adaptive smoothing of initial conditions to identify haloes of different sizes and solving approximately post-collapse dynamics in the 3-streams regime, agreement between theory and simulations drastically improves. We extend our analyses to the 3D case using PINOCCHIO algorithm, in which similar adaptive smoothing is implemented on the Lagrangian PT fields to identify haloes and is combined with a spherical halo prescription to account for post-collapse dynamics. Abstract: Planck Collaboration: et al., arXiv:1905.05697v1, We analyse the Planck full-mission cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and E-mode polarization maps to obtain constraints on primordial non-Gaussianity (NG). We compare estimates obtained from separable template-fitting, binned, and optimal modal bispectrum estimators, finding consistent values for the local, equilateral, and orthogonal bispectrum amplitudes. Our combined temperature and polarization analysis produces the following final results: fNLlocal = −0.9 ± 5.1; fNLequil = −26 ± 47; and fNLortho = −38 ± 24 (68% CL, statistical). These results include low-multipole (4 ≤ ℓ < 40) polarization data that are not included in our previous analysis. The results also pass an extensive battery of tests (with additional tests regarding foreground residuals compared to 2015), and they are stable with respect to our 2015 measurements (with small fluctuations, at the level of a fraction of a standard deviation, which is consistent with changes in data processing). Polarization-only bispectra display a significant improvement in robustness; they can now be used independently to set primordial NG constraints with a sensitivity comparable to WMAP temperature-based results and they give excellent agreement. In addition to the analysis of the standard local, equilateral, and orthogonal bispectrum shapes, we consider a large number of additional cases, such as scale-dependent feature and resonance bispectra, isocurvature primordial NG, and parity-breaking models, where we also place tight constraints but do not detect any signal. The non-primordial lensing bispectrum is, however, detected with an improved significance compared to 2015, excluding the null hypothesis at 3.5σ. Beyond estimates of individual shape amplitudes, we also present model-independent reconstructions and analyses of the Planck CMB bispectrum. Our final constraint on the local primordial trispectrum shape is gNLlocal = (−5.8 ± 6.5) × 104 (68% CL, statistical), while constraints for other trispectrum shapes are also determined. Exploiting the tight limits on various bispectrum and trispectrum shapes, we constrain the parameter space of different early-Universe scenarios that generate primordial NG, including general single-field models of inflation, multi-field models (e.g. curvaton models), models of inflation with axion fields producing parity-violation bispectra in the tensor sector, and inflationary models involving vector-like fields with directionally-dependent bispectra. Abstract: Planck Collaboration: et al., Observations of the submillimetre emission from Galactic dust, in both total intensity I and polarization, have received tremendous interest thanks to the Planck full-sky maps. In this paper we make use of such full-sky maps of dust polarized emission produced from the third public release of Planck data. As the basis for expanding on astrophysical studies of the polarized thermal emission from Galactic dust, we present full-sky maps of the dust polarization fraction p, polarization angle ψ, and dispersion function of polarization angles 𝒮. The joint distribution (one-point statistics) of p and NH confirms that the mean and maximum polarization fractions decrease with increasing NH. The uncertainty on the maximum observed polarization fraction, pmax = 22.0−1.4+3.5% at 353 GHz and 80′ resolution, is dominated by the uncertainty on the Galactic emission zero level in total intensity, in particular towards diffuse lines of sight at high Galactic latitudes. Furthermore, the inverse behaviour between p and 𝒮 found earlier is seen to be present at high latitudes. This follows the 𝒮 ∝ p−1 relationship expected from models of the polarized sky (including numerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamical turbulence) that include effects from only the topology of the turbulent magnetic field, but otherwise have uniform alignment and dust properties. Thus, the statistical properties of p, ψ, and 𝒮 for the most part reflect the structure of the Galactic magnetic field. Nevertheless, we search for potential signatures of varying grain alignment and dust properties. First, we analyse the product map 𝒮 × p, looking for residual trends. While the polarization fraction p decreases by a factor of 3−4 between NH = 1020 cm−2 and NH = 2 × 1022 cm−2, out of the Galactic plane, this product 𝒮 × p only decreases by about 25%. Because 𝒮 is independent of the grain alignment efficiency, this demonstrates that the systematic decrease in p with NH is determined mostly by the magnetic-field structure and not by a drop in grain alignment. This systematic trend is observed both in the diffuse interstellar medium (ISM) and in molecular clouds of the Gould Belt. Second, we look for a dependence of polarization properties on the dust temperature, as we would expect from the radiative alignment torque (RAT) theory. We find no systematic trend of 𝒮 × p with the dust temperature Td, whether in the diffuse ISM or in the molecular clouds of the Gould Belt. In the diffuse ISM, lines of sight with high polarization fraction p and low polarization angle dispersion 𝒮 tend, on the contrary, to have colder dust than lines of sight with low p and high 𝒮. We also compare the Planck thermal dust polarization with starlight polarization data in the visible at high Galactic latitudes. The agreement in polarization angles is remarkable, and is consistent with what we expect from the noise and the observed dispersion of polarization angles in the visible on the scale of the Planck beam. The two polarization emission-to-extinction ratios, RP/p and RS/V, which primarily characterize dust optical properties, have only a weak dependence on the column density, and converge towards the values previously determined for translucent lines of sight. We also determine an upper limit for the polarization fraction in extinction, pV/E(B − V), of 13% at high Galactic latitude, compatible with the polarization fraction p ≈ 20% observed at 353 GHz. Abstract: In this article, four new phenothiazine derivatives (denoted as PT1, PT2, PT3 and PT4) are specifically in silico designed by molecular modelling for good light absorption properties @405 nm. The most interesting structures showing both intense violet/blue light absorption and high potential photochemical reactivity were synthesized for detailed investigations as photoinitiators/photosensitizers in the presence of an iodonium salt for the free radical photopolymerization of (meth)acrylates and the cationic polymerization of epoxides upon near-UV or visible light irradiation. Remarkably, two of the proposed structures (PT3 and PT4) from this in silico design were never synthesized prior to this work and were thus specifically designed for this work. Three-component photoinitiating systems based on PT/iodonium/amine (N-phenylglycine or ethyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate) are also developed for the free radical polymerization of acrylates. Both excellent polymerization rates and high final reactive function conversions were obtained. A full picture of the photochemical mechanisms is provided using different techniques: real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Finally, the high performance of the phenothiazine derivatives is also shown in 3D printing experiments as well as in photocomposite synthesis using glass fibres (thick sample; using a LED@395 nm conveyor).

Abstract: En mathématiques, dans l’enseignement secondaire et universitaire, certains enseignants peuvent être considérés comme « inverseurs » au sens des cinq critères retenus dans la présentation du dossier, même si dans cette discipline se rencontre une grande diversité de pratiques d’inversion. Pour avancer sur le questionnement de ce type de dispositifs, qui mettent en jeu l’exposition des connaissances différemment de ce qui est fait en séances classiques, nous faisons un détour méthodologique. Nous inscrivant dans la théorie de l’activité, nous présentons des moyens spécifiques d’analyse des moments d’exposition des connaissances, quels qu’en soient les déroulements, en classe ou non. De quelques études menées en didactique des mathématiques sur ce sujet nous dégageons des premiers résultats communs. Une discussion sur des avantages et inconvénients des deux types de modalités d’exposition des connaissances, avec inversion ou non, termine ce travail. Cela nous amène à émettre des hypothèses sur l’inversion et ouvrir des perspectives sur un travail ultérieur plus développé. In mathematics, in secondary and university education, some teachers can be considered as "inverters" in the sense of the five criteria retained in the presentation of the dossier, even if in this discipline there is a great diversity of inversion practices. To advance on the questioning of this type of device, which involves the exposure of knowledge differently from what is done in classical sessions, we make a methodological detour. In keeping with the theory of activity, we present specific ways of analyzing the moments of knowledge exposure, whatever the process, in class or not. From some studies carried out in didactics of mathematics on this subject, we draw out the first common results. A discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of the two types of knowledge exposure modalities, with or without inversion, concludes this work. This leads us to hypothesize about inversion and opens perspectives for further work.

Abstract: Within the Science project at Collège Pailleron, autonomous sessions have been developed over the past two years (Copreaux et al., 2020). They enable teachers of several disciplines (PC, SVT, Technologie, Art) to get a group of students to work on a theme for 4 weeks, with one session per discipline. Interdisciplinarity does not forget the disciplines, but articulates them around common skills. From the students' point of view, they discover the pleasure of autonomy and group work, with clear, explicit instructions and clearly identified skills., Au sein du projet Sciences du collège Pailleron, des séances autonomes ont été développées depuis deux ans (Copreaux et al., 2020). Elles permettent aux enseignants de plusieurs disciplines (PC, SVT, Technologie, Art) de faire travailler un groupe d’élèves sur un thème pendant 4 semaines, avec une séance par discipline. L’interdisciplinarité n’oublie pas les disciplines, mais les articule autour de compétences communes. Du point de vue des élèves, ils découvrent le plaisir de l’autonomie et du travail en groupe avec des consignes explicites, claires et des compétences bien identifiées.

Abstract: Nowadays, thermal regulation of the indoor environment is mandatory to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The incorporation of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) and especially solid–solid PCMs (s/s PCMs) into building materials can be a major step forward in reducing energy consumption. Such materials are used for their high latent heat to save and release heat during phase change. To integrate these products in the fabrication of cementitious materials, it is essential to predict their influence on the rheological behaviour of construction materials. In this work, rheological measurements were carried out on composite suspensions made of cement or mortar plus s/s PCMs. Results showed that the fitting of the Herschel–Bulkley model with a constant value of flow exponent was reliable. The s/s PCMs influenced the consistency and the yield strength values, with the yield strength value being only slightly affected. The adaptation of an existing viscosity model is proposed to predict the consistency value of suspensions. Finally, an innovative approach to predict the flow behaviour is proposed and we highlight the research needs to mainstream the use of s/s PCMs in construction materials.

Abstract: Binders based on the alkaline activation of raw materials is a subject of increasing importance for construction. This study focuses on a new non-hydraulic binder based on the alkali-activation of limestone by an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. An optimized mortar of about 20 MPa compressive strength, made with siliceous sand, was studied by XRD, FTIR and SEM-EDX analyses showing that crystalline pirssonite and portlandite are the reaction products responsible of the cohesive capacity of the binder. A methodology based on thermal gravimetric analysis was applied to quantify the products formed and the consumption of reagents with high reliability.

Abstract: Polyurethane-based polymers are widely used in modern materials and as Phase Change Materials (PCMs) to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The fungal development in buildings is favoured by the degradation of polymeric materials that act as nutritional substrates. In the present study, the fungal biodegradation of a polyether-urethane PCM (PUX1520) was investigated. Two methods of biodegradation by fungal growth on agar and in liquid media were used. Fungal growth on agar plates was monitored by measuring the surface area of each mycelium over a period of 11 days. The degradation products of PUX1520 were analysed by FT-IR and MALDI-TOF. The PUX1520 polymer had no impact on the growth of Aspergillus niger, while the growth of Penicillium sp. was increased in the presence of PUX1520. MALDI-TOF analysis revealed the existence of different soluble forms of the polymer whose concentration decreased after exposure to the fungal strains. From FT-IR analysis on the residual polymer material, an oxidation process is proposed to describe the dissociation of the urethane functions.

Abstract: International audience; Due to its geodynamic location in the Lesser Antilles arc, Basse-Terre of Guadeloupe displays an active volcanism which is favourable to the development of high-enthalpy geothermal energy. An exhumed analogue of the Bouillante geothermal reservoir has been recently characterized in Terre-de-Haut island (Les Saintes archipelago), giving an opportunity to study the cooling of a natural geothermal system and the related alterations.By coupling chlorite geothermometry and primary fluid inclusions in associated zoned quartz crystals located in N70 trending fractures, new insights on the Terre-de-Haut paleo-geothermal evolution can be inferred by distinguishing three new different episodes during functioning and cooling of this system: (i) a temperature of at least 240–270 °C in fluid inclusions trapped in the quartz core, (ii) chlorite formation at about 120 °C, and (iii) temperatures of ~50 °C - or less - in fluid inclusions of the quartz outer growth zones. Fluid inclusions also reveal that the hydrothermal fluid is of low salinity (2 wt% NaCl), probably of meteoric and sea water origin. Additionally, a second type of fluid inclusions observed in a banded quartz vein indicates at least an episode of a CO2-(H2O) fluid, with traces of H2S. Hence, some similarities can be highlighted between Terre-de-Haut and the Bouillante active geothermal systems in term of the highest temperatures of circulation events and gas composition, despite a difference in fluid origin. This study shows that some alteration episodes also occur at low temperature during the cooling of the geothermal system. Moreover, the N70 trending fractures, that have been identified as drains for the hot temperature fluids, have to be considered for future geothermal exploration.

Abstract: Electronic properties and excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) processes of 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (HBT) and its derivatives with different chemical structures (π-expansion, benzothiazole substituent and additional PT unit) have been theoretically investigated. The red-shifts of enol absorption peaks are found for all HBT derivatives regardless of chemical structures, whereas the blue-shifts or red-shifts of keto emission peaks are dependent on the orientation of π-expansion and the additional PT unit compared to HBT, which are rationalized by frontier molecular orbitals. Among designed HBT derivatives, a HBT having two PT units connected with π-expansion along the nodal plane is the best candidate for fluorescent probes because of its keto emission at 1159 nm with the largest Stokes shift. Moreover, potential energy curves and dynamic simulations confirm that the emission at much longer wavelength is from the di-keto species driven by double PT process. Based on this theoretical investigation, the keto emission of HBT derivatives in NIR region can be achieved by the combination of π-expansion along the nodal plane and additional PT unit.

Abstract: The dry rot fungus Serpula lacrymans is the most destructive fungal agent of wood building materials in Europe, Russia, North America, and Japan. The identification of this wood-deteriorating agent and the discrimination of different fungal isolates is very important for the control of buildings in general and for the preservation of cultural heritage in particular. The objective of the study was to develop a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) method coupled with a partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) for the sample preparation and identification of S. lacrymans. Five distinct S. lacrymans strains were analysed and compared to two strains of unrelated fungal species. Different methods of mycelial growth, sample preparation, and FTIR spectral data normalisation were compared. FTIR analysis of a harvested mycelium grown on the surface of a polyether sulfone microfiltration membrane deposited on a malt extract agar medium, followed by vector normalization and PLS-DA statistical analysis, resulted in 100% correct attribution at phylum, species, and strain level, regardless of the type of standardization used. This study confirms the applicability of FTIR spectroscopy for the identification of S. lacrymans and the discrimination of different strains belonging to this species.

Abstract: International audience; In the present work, we investigate the mechanical weakening and deformation induced by water on a microporous carbonate rock, the Obourg Chalk from Mons Basin (Belgium), through conventional triaxial tests and injection tests. The injection tests were conducted by waterflooding critically loaded rock samples, initially in dry condition, in a way to minimize the variations in the effective pressures. Furthermore, the samples were instrumented with P-wave piezoelectric transducers to provide active ultrasonic monitoring while injecting. The results show a significant reduction in the mechanical strength of this chalk. Analysis of the mechanical tests and the associated deformation allows us to describe the mechanical behavior as a function of the confining pressure, which draws a brittle-ductile transition spanning from low to high confining pressure. The injection tests, moreover, revealed that the amount of water injected before triggering mechanical instability decreases exponentially with respect to the applied differential stress on the rock sample. The data, therefore, suggest that the failure might be controlled by a mechanical coupling between the water-invaded zone and the dry one. Since water-weakening plays an important role in several fields like oil industry, through secondary and tertiary recovery of hydrocarbons, Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), as well as in the mechanical stability of underground cavities, the outcome of this work is of primary importance in mitigating any kind of problems related to these operations.

Abstract: Different communities, speaking different languages, employ different naming systems to describe the events, actions, and interactions of the mathematics classroom. The International Classroom Lexicon Project documented the professional vocabulary available to middle-school mathematics teachers in Australia, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, and the United States. National teams of researchers and experienced teachers used a common set of classroom videos to stimulate recognition of familiar terms describing aspects of the mathematics classroom. This book details the existing professional vocabulary in each international community by which mathematics teachers conceptualise their practice, and explores the characteristics, structures, and distinctive features of each national lexicon. This book has the potential to enrich the professional vocabulary of mathematics teachers around the world by providing access to sophisticated classroom practices named by teachers in different countries. This one volume offers separate, individual lexicons developed from empirical research, the capacity to juxtapose such lexicons, and an unmatched opportunity to highlight the cultural, historical, and linguistic bases of teachers' professional language.

Abstract: Fibrosis represents an open issue for medium to long-term active implants, such as pacemakers, given that this biological medium surrounds the stimulation electrodes and can impact or modify the performances of the system. For this reason, Embedded Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) techniques have been investigated these last years to sense the fibrosis. The following article introduces a new technique for EIS derived from multi-carrier digital communication methods. Due to its properties of flat spectrum and fast generation the Orthogonal-Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique for EIS represents an efficient and a low foot-print alternative compared to the classical sweep frequency technique. This article focuses on this approach and also proposes a solution that reduces the effect of high crest factor typically found in OFDM systems. An embedded implementation is also presented. This designed prototype is used here to characterize the impedance spectrum of a pacemaker's electrode achieving an accuracy of 99% when measuring with 64 OFDM subcarriers and with a sampling frequency of 12 kHz.

Abstract: This study focuses on analysis of the archaeal and fungal diversity associated with gypsum efflorescences damaging the walls of the Sorcerer’s prehistoric cave registered as a world cultural heritage site. Archaeal 16S rDNA and fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) clone libraries were constructed and analysed. Two thaumarchaeotal OTUs belonging to the Nitrososphaeraceae family dominated the archaeal community (100% of clones). Nitrososphaeraceae are obligate aerobic, chemolithoautotrophic organisms that derive their energy from the oxidation of ammonia and may contribute to primary productivity in the cave. Seven fungal OTUs belonging to Ascomycota and one belonging to Basidiomycota were present. The Cordycipitaceae family, mainly represented by entomophilous fungi, dominated the analysis (66.7% of clones). We show that archaeal and fungal OTUs are associated with gypsum efflorescences damaging the walls of the Sorcerer’s cave. The role of these microorganisms in the deterioration of the walls of the cave remains to be determined.

Abstract: Significant, poly-phase deformation occurred prior to, simultaneous with, and after the opening of the North Atlantic Ocean. Understanding this deformation history is essential for understanding the regional development and the mechanisms controlling rifting and subsequent failure or breakup. Here, we primarily use published constraints to construct deformable plate tectonic models for the southern North Atlantic from 200 Ma to present using GPlates. The aim of this work is to test both the capability of the GPlates deformable modelling approach and the reliability of published plate reconstructions. Overall, modelled crustal thickness values at 0 Ma produced from the deformable models show general, regional-scale, similarities with values derived from the inversion of gravity data for crustal thickness. However, the deformable models typically underestimate thinning in marginal basins and overestimate crustal thickness in continental fragments compared to values from gravity inversion. This is possibly due to: 1) thinning occurring earlier than the 200 Ma start time modelled, 2) variations in the original crustal thickness, 3) depth-dependent stretching, 4) rigid blocks undergoing some degree of thinning, and 5) variations in the mesh density of the models. The results demonstrate that inclusion of micro-continental fragments, and locally defined limits of continental crust, generally produce results more akin to observations. One exception is the Grand Banks where global GPlates models produce more realistic deformation, likely due to the inclusion of the exhumed domains continent-ward of the transition zone boundary. Results also indicate that Flemish Cap rotation is required to provide a reasonable fit between North America and Iberia, with the palaeo-position of the Flemish Cap likely to be the proto-Orphan sub-basins. Moreover, the East and West Orphan sub-basins formed separately due to the respective rotations of the Flemish Cap and the Orphan Knoll, which was likely associated with other continental fragments that subsequently contributed to the thicker crust forming the boundary between the East and West Orphan basins. The results also suggest a link between tectonic and magmatic processes. For example, the inclusion of an Orphan Knoll micro-continental block results in greater extension (higher beta factors) in the northern West Orphan Basin near the termination of the Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone, and the site of the Charlie-Gibbs Volcanic Province (CGVP). Thus, we infer that the CGVP was likely influenced by plate tectonic processes through the concentration of strain resulting from interaction in proximity to the transform system. Finally, marginal basins that were considered to be conjugate and thus related, may only appear conjugate through later rotation of micro-continental blocks, and thus their genesis is not directly related.

Abstract: International audience; Robust wide baseline pose estimation is an essential step in the deployment of smart camera networks. In this work, we highlight some current limitations of conventional strategies for relative pose estimation in difficult urban scenes. Then, we propose a solution which relies on an adaptive search of corresponding interest points in synchronized video streams which allows us to converge robustly toward a high-quality solution. The core idea of our algorithm is to build across the image space a nonstationary mapping of the local pose estimation uncertainty, based on the spatial distribution of interest points. Subsequently, the mapping guides the selection of new observations from the video stream in order to prioritize the coverage of areas of high uncertainty. With an additional step in the initial stage, the proposed algorithm may also be used for refining an existing pose estimation based on the video data; this mode allows for performing a data-driven self-calibration task for stereo rigs for which accuracy is critical, such as onboard medical or vehicular systems. We validate our method on three different datasets which cover typical scenarios in pose estimation. The results show a fast and robust convergence of the solution, with a significant improvement, compared to single image-based alternatives, of the RMSE of ground-truth matches, and of the maximum absolute error.

Abstract: A discrete action principle for general quantum automata is proposed. This action principle is particularized to Discrete Time Quantum Walks (DTQWs) and then extended into an energy and momentum preserving, manifestly covariant formulation. Space-time coordinates are introduced as new variables of the action and their equations of motion enforce energy and momentum conservation. This guarantees that the proposed action can be used to build future, DTQW-based self-consistent models of spinors interacting with gauge fields. A discrete stress-energy tensor for the DTQW is also obtained by functional differentiation of the action with respect to the gradients of the coordinates viewed as functions of the discrete grid points. The manifest covariance of the formulation highlights the special role played by the grid reference frame in the DTQW dynamics. The main discussion is complemented by three appendices., 14 pages

Abstract: The addition of dimethylsulfoxide and Zonyl into poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) can be combined to achieve excellent electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. We demonstrate that it is possible to produce highly transparent conducting electrodes (FoM35) with low Young's modulus and high carrier density. We investigated the relationship between the transport properties of PEDOT:PSS and the morphology and microstructure of these films by performing Hall effect measurement, atomic force microscopy, and grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS). Our analysis reveals the distinctive impact of the two additives on the PEDOT and PSS components in the solid-state PEDOT:PSS films. Both additives induce fibrillar formation in the film, and the combination of the two additives only enhances the fibrillary nature and the aggregations of both PEDOT and PSS components of the film. In situ GIWAXS allows to time-resolve the morphology evolution. Our analysis reveals the influence of additives on the aggregation and self-assembly behaviors of the PEDOT and PSS components. Aggregation occurs during the transition from wet to dry film, which is observed exclusively during the thermal annealing step of the as-cast hydrated film. These results indicate that the additives directly influence the self-assembly behaviors of PEDOT and PSS during the ink-to-solid phase transformation of the hydrated film, which occurs primarily during the initial seconds of post-deposition thermal annealing.

Abstract: During recent decades, data from space missions have provided strong evidence of deep liquid oceans underneath a thin outer icy crust on several moons of Jupiter, particularly Europa. But these observations have also raised many unanswered questions regarding the oceanic motions generated under the ice, or the mechanisms leading to the geological features observed on Europa. By means of direct numerical simulations of Europa's interior, we show here that Jupiter's magnetic field generates a retrograde oceanic jet at the equator, which may influence the global dynamics of Europa's ocean and contribute to the formation of some of its surface features by applying a unidirectional torque on Europa's ice shell., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures + 1 Method section

Abstract: Deux études internationales évaluant les connaissances des élèves en mathématiques occupent une place importante dans le paysage éducatif mondial : celles du Programme international pour le suivi des acquis des élèves (PISA) et de la Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Si ces études sont accompagnées d’une littérature abondante décrivant leurs cadres, et si de nombreuses recherches en édumétrie, en sociologie ou encore en sciences de l’éducation ont régulièrement été menées, quel regard la didactique des mathématiques peut-elle porter sur ces études ? Après avoir présenté succinctement les cadres de ces deux évaluations, nous exploitons deux approches didactiques distinctes, basées sur l’analyse a priori des tâches pour analyser le contenu de l’évaluation et pour réinterpréter les résultats des élèves. Couplée à une analyse statistique implicative, la première, didactique et cognitive, apporte un regard neuf sur les résultats du PISA et permet de mener des comparaisons entre pays. La seconde approche, située dans le cadre de la théorie anthropologique du didactique, s’intéresse davantage au contenu de la TIMSS et à la répartition des questions au regard d’une organisation mathématique de référence., Two international studies that aim to assess students’ knowledge and skills in mathematics have won a prominent place in the global educational world: Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). While these studies come with numerous works describing their frameworks, and while a lot of research in edumetrics, sociology and educational sciences have been published, what light the mathematics didactics can place on them? After a short outline of their frameworks, we will make use of two different approaches, both being based on a priori analysis of the tasks for analysing the content of the assessments and for reinterpreting the results. The first approach, labelled didactical and cognitive, is associated with the implicative statistical analysis and allows a new look on the PISA results as well as on comparisons between countries. The second, nested in the didactical anthropological theory, addresses mainly TIMSS content and the distribution of its assessment items in relation to a given mathematical syllabus., Dois estudos internacionais que avaliam os conhecimentos dos alunos em matemática ocupam um lugar importante no panorama educativo mundial: os do Programa Internacional de Avaliação de Estudantes (PISA) e os do Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Sendo estes estudos acompanhados por uma abundante literatura descrevendo os seus quadros, e que muitas investigações em edumetria, sociologia ou mesmo nas ciências da educação são realizadas regularmente, que olhar a didática das matemáticas pode apresentar sobre estes estudos? Após apresentar sucintamente os quadros dessas duas avaliações, exploramos duas abordagens didáticas distintas, baseadas na análise a priori das tarefas para analisar o conteúdo da avaliação e para reinterpretar os resultados dos alunos. Juntamente com uma análise estatística implicativa, a primeira, didática e cognitiva, traz um novo olhar para os resultados do PISA e permite comparações entre países. Abstract: International audience; This paper presents a zero-dimensional (0D) model of hydride tank. The model aims to study the dynamic heat and mass transfers during desorption process in order to investigate the thermal-fluidic behaviors of this hydride tank. This proposed model has been validated experimentally thanks to a tailor-made developed test bench. The simulation results of the heat exchanges and mass transfer in and between the coupled reaction bed, show good agreement with the experimental ones. It is shown that the heat produced by a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) (estimated starting from an electrical model) is enough to heat the metal alloy (FeTi) and therefore release the hydrogen with a sufficient mass flow rate to supply the PEMFC. Furthermore, the obtained results highlight the importance of the developed model for energy management of the coupling of fuel cell and hydride tank system.

Abstract: International audience; Conducting interpenetrating polymer networks (C-IPN) are a promising solution for the design of sensing and actuating parts at macro-or microscale. This class of polymers can be used in open-air, allowing for large displacements under low voltages with a reversible process. In this work, we are mainly interested in the electromechanical characterization of the material because of its particular behavior. Two working modes, namely actuation and sensing, are identified through modeling and experimental validations. The relationship between the output forces, the tip displacements and the driving voltages was highlighted with an experimental setup while actuating. On the other hand, the linear range and the sensitivity have been empirically modeled in sensing mode. We also demonstrate that this material is suitable to build a gripper for small objects. A sphere was lifted by the gripper, and the grasping force was successfully monitored by the sensing finger. This is a promising first step towards more complex 3D structures.

Abstract: A series of novel indazole-pyrone hybrids were synthesized by a one pot reaction between N-alkyl-6(5)-nitroindazoles and 2-pyrone (4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one) using indium or stannous chloride as the reducing system in the presence of acetic acid in tetrahydrofuran. The hybrid molecules were obtained in good to excellent yields (72-92%) and characterized by NMR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Nineteen compounds were tested in vitro against both Leishmania donovani (MHOM/ET/67/HU3, also called LV9) axenic and intramacrophage amastigotes. Among all, five compounds showed anti-leishmanial activity against intracellular L. donovani with an IC50 in the range of 2.25 to 62.56 μM. 3-(1-(3-Chloro-2-ethyl-2H-indazol-6-ylamino)ethylidene)-6-methyl-3H-pyran-2,4-dione 6f was found to be the most active compound for axenic amastigotes and intramacrophage amastigotes of L. donovani with IC50 values of 2.48 ± 1.02 μM and 2.25 ± 1.89 μM, respectively. However, the cytotoxicity of the most promising compound justifies further pharmacomodulations.

Abstract: WOS:000451818000007; This paper is devoted to study two acridone derivatives (A-2DPA and A-2PTz). These acridone compounds are synthesized and proposed as high performance visible light photoinitiators, in the presence of an iodonium salt or/and an amine (NPG or EDB), for both the free radical polymerization of (meth)acrylates and the cationic polymerization of epoxides upon irradiation with LED@405 nm. Excellent polymerization initiating abilities are found, and high final monomer conversions are obtained. A full picture of the involved photochemical mechanisms is provided. This paper is also concerned with the use of these acridone-based systems in new 3D printing resins. Finally, the usage of the new acridone derivatives for photopolyrners with low migration properties is particularly outlined.

Abstract: This article is devoted to the theoretical resources likely to support implementation studies. After the introductory section, we focus on the potential offered by resources internal to the field of mathematics education, especially those offered by design-based research, by the systemic and ecological perspective underlying the anthropological theory of the didactic, and by the documentational approach to didactics regarding the teachers’ relationship with educational resources. We then examine particular examples of implementation studies, paying specific attention to the way they combine internal and external resources. For that purpose we consider on the one hand, European projects aiming at the large-scale implementation of inquiry-based learning and teaching in STEM education, especially the PRIMAS project, and on the other hand, the contributions to the thematic working group devoted to implementation and replication studies at CERME 10 and CERME 11. We conclude with more general reflections.

Abstract: International audience; Le projet sciences pour les classes de 6ème du collège Pailleron, initié en 2016, nécessite la mise en place de supports de séances disciplinaires (physique-chimie, SVT, technologie, arts et recherche documentaire), utilisés chacune par les enseignants de toutes les disciplines autour d’un objectif, « le Voyage vers Mars ». Le travail mené par l’équipe du LéA a pour objectif de rendre ce projet suffisamment cohérent pour que les séances puissent être menées en autonomie par les élèves. L’élève va ainsi devenir acteur de la construction de son savoir au sein d’îlots de rationalité (Fourez, 2001) tandis que l’enseignant ne sera plus le détenteur ni le transmetteur du savoir. La vidéo illustrera notre démarche à travers une production spécifique : une séance sur l’énergie construite et mise en place par l’enseignant de physique-chimie en 2019-20 et 2020-21.Dans cette séance, les élèves doivent suivre une démarche expérimentale visant à identifier des sources d’énergie, à reconnaître les situations où l’énergie est stockée, transformée, utilisée, et à prendre conscience que l’être humain a besoin d’énergie pour vivre, se déplacer, se chauffer. La séance, construite en 2019-20 par l’enseignant de PC, a été reprise en collaboration avec toute l’équipe pédagogique. Des objets de savoirs et un vocabulaire communs aux différentes disciplines ainsi que les difficultés des élèves ont pu être réfléchies en équipe, donnant lieu à des aides-outils qui permettront une réelle autonomie des élèves dans la construction de leur savoir.Lors de la mise en place de la séance en 2019-20, les élèves commençaient par un travail individuel de réflexion, puis se mettaient en groupe pour un travail expérimental, avant de conclure individuellement. En 2020-21, l’autonomie a été favorisée par la mise en place de groupes permanents avec des rôles alternés de secrétaire, maître du temps, maître des tâches et rapporteur. Ainsi, chaque groupe gère l’évolution de la séance et appelle l’enseignant pour discuter ou valider ses conclusions. Les termes de vocabulaire, les notions ou les savoir-faire considérés comme difficiles ne sont plus introduits ou expliqués par l’enseignant, mais intégrés à la fiche élève, discutés au sein du groupe, ou encore résolus avec des aides-outils prévus en amont. Certaines difficultés ont encore nécessité l’intervention de l’enseignant. We rely on the theoretical framework of embodied cognition and we involve all the students of a Val de Marne high school in two successive teaching-learning sessions based on the same scenario but with a different degree of embodiment. Between each session we evaluated the students' responses to a conceptual questionnaire. Our first results suggest that the sessions do have an effect on students, but that the degree of embodiment does not seem to affect conceptual learning. The effect of the sessions also seems to be still present three months after their implementation., Nous présentons dans cette communication une expérimentation concernant l'étude des changements de référentiels dans le contexte de l'astronomie. Nous nous appuyons pour cela sur le cadre de la cognition incarnée et nous faisons participer l'ensemble des élèves de seconde d'un lycée du Val de Marne à deux séances d'enseignement-apprentissage successives fondées sur un même scénario mais dont le degré d'incarnation diffère. Entre chaque séance nous évaluons les réponses des élèves à un questionnaire à visée conceptuelle. Nos premiers résultats suggèrent que les séances ont bien un effet sur les élèves, mais que, contrairement à notre hypothèse, le degré d'incarnation ne semble pas jouer sur les apprentissages conceptuels. L'effet des séances semble par ailleurs toujours présent trois mois après leur mise en oeuvre.

Nous nous appuyons pour cela sur le cadre de la cognition incarnée et nous faisons participer l'ensemble des élèves de seconde d'un lycée du Val de Marne à deux séances d'enseignement-apprentissage successives fondées sur un même scénario mais dont le degré d'incarnation diffère. Entre chaque séance nous évaluons les réponses des élèves à un questionnaire à visée conceptuelle. Nos premiers résultats suggèrent que les séances ont bien un effet sur les élèves, mais que, contrairement à notre hypothèse, le degré d'incarnation ne semble pas jouer sur les apprentissages conceptuels. L'effet des séances semble par ailleurs toujours présent trois mois après leur mise en oeuvre.

Abstract: Electrochemical actuators based on electronic conducting polymers can convert electrical energy into mechanical work. The amplitude of the electromechanical response is related on volumetric charge density of conducting polymer electrodes and strain-to-charge ratio, an empiric electromechanical coupling parameter. In this work we describe the elaboration of high performance trilayer bending actuators by the electro-interpenetration of a conducting polymer, i.e. poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), within a host membrane. The host membrane is first elaborated as an interpenetrating polymer networks combining nitrile butadiene rubber network and poly(ethylene oxide) network. An oxidative chemical prepolymerization of EDOT allows turning the host membrane into conductive substrate suitable for subsequent electropolymerization. The electropolymerization of EDOT from the chemically polymerized layer allows controlled interpenetration of PEDOT underneath the surface. A significant increase of local concentration of PEDOT in the electrodes, compared to those obtained from oxidative polymerization lead to a significant increase of the charge density. The polymerization conditions do not have significant impact on sign and absolute value of strain-to-charge ratio, but it can be improved by the nature of the electrolyte. The combination of these two effects leads to an actuator with up to 15% of strain difference.

Abstract: International audience; Le programme « Sciences pour Tous » de la Région Ile-de-France permet la mise en place d’événements visant à promouvoir les sciences auprès des scolaires et du grand public. En 2020 et 2021, les associations F-HOU (France - Hands On Universe), SpaceBus France, la SAF (Société Astronomique de France) et le projet de sciences participatives Vigie-Ciel ont conçu puis mis en place le projet ASTRE (Astronomie de la Terre aux Etoiles ) financé par ce programme. Romane Koenig, stagiaire du Master Événementiel, Médiation des Arts et des Sciences (EMAS) de l’université UVSQ, a rejoint le projet ASTRE dès ses débuts. Ce projet a ainsi bénéficié de compétences complémentaires en didactique des sciences, astronomie et médiation scientifique pour construire un parcours didactique. Composé de trois ateliers, conçus pour des élèves de CM1 à la 6ème, il permet de découvrir le Système Solaire (sur un Planétaire humain), les Météorites et les Exoplanètes. Le parcours amène tous les participants à observer, modéliser, expérimenter, et donc à faire siennes les connaissances scientifiques.
