International audience; Abstract Background Previous studies have revealed high malaria transmission in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire. The sociopolitical crisis in the country and the resulting environmental changes have raised the need to update existing knowledge on mosquito vector species and malaria transmission. Methods Adult mosquitoes were caught using the human landing catch (HLC) sampling method in Bouaké. They were collected in six districts representative of the diversity in urban landscapes. Sampling points were selected along the water network crossing the city and monitored from 2020 to 2021 to detect the presence of anopheline larvae. PCR techniques were used to ascertain the species of the Anopheles gambiae complex, Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite infection in a subset of Anopheles vectors, and insecticide resistance mechanisms in Anopheles arabiensis only. Results A total of 4599 Anopheles mosquitoes were collected and then identified. Anopheles gambiae sensu lato ( s.l.) made up the majority of the whole collection (99%) while Anopheles funestus (0.7%), Anopheles ziemanni (0.2%), Anopheles pharoensis (0.2%) represented the remaining proportion of collection. Among the Anopheles gambiae complex, three species were identified namely An. gambiae sensu stricto (45.9%), Anopheles coluzzii (52.2%), and Anopheles arabiensis (1.9%). The first two species had already been collected in Bouaké, however this is the first time that An. arabiensis is reported in Côte d’Ivoire. Anopheles arabiensis was also collected during the larval surveys in a similar proportion (1.1%) in the same areas as the adults. Conclusions This study detected the presence of An. arabiensis for the first time in Côte d’Ivoire. This species was found quite far from its usual geographic area and its expansion could be linked to the urbanization process. Although no An. arabiensis was found to be infected by Plasmodium sp., its role in malaria transmission in Bouaké has to be explored, particularly since its exophagic behaviour raises the issue of control measures and the use of insecticide-impregnated nets. The spread of this species in Côte d'Ivoire should be assessed through further research in additional towns in the country.

This study is focused on the factors of the low motivation and their effects on the learning of TTC Students. The bad socioeconomic and professional conditions of primary teachers are the origin of the low motivation of TTC Students. These factors have the negative effects on the learning of TTC Students such as: absenteeism, refuse of cognitive engagement, discouragement, lack of hope on the future, lack of school performance, inability of projects realization, bad atmosphere in classroom, disruption of pedagogical ideas, the regression, the behaviors change, the bad relationship between student and teacher, school failure, drop out or school reorientation. These effects of low motivation are the origin of the bad professional teaching appreciation. Everywhere that the variables "salary and opportunities access" are in touch with the socioeconomics and professionals conditions that shall be the elements of extrinsic motivation, they have an impact for integration and improvement of primary teachers motivation and TTC students motivation. The satisfaction of socioeconomics and professionals conditions and equity of the lucks are the good strategies for to avoid the low motivation of teachers., Cette étude met l'accent sur les facteurs de la démotivation et de leurs effets sur l'apprentissage chez les élèves du TTC.

The main aim of this paper is to study the notion of conditional right by means of constructive type theory (CTT) which provides the means to develop a system of contentual inferences rather than of syntactic derivations. Moreover, in line with Armgardt, we will first study the general notion of dependence as triggered by hypotheticals and then the logical structure of dependence specific to conditional right. I will develop this idea in a dialogical framework where the distinction between play-object and strategy-object leads to the further distinction between two basic kinds of pieces of evidence and where meanings is constituted by the interaction of obligations and entitlements. The present paper is based on Rahman (2015). However, though the underlying CTT-analysis is the same, the dialogical reconstruction makes use of a new way of linking dialogical logic and CTT. Réseau LACTO (Langage, Argumentation et Cognition dans les Traditions Orales) Quatrième Rencontre du Réseau Lacto CELHTO, bureau de l'Union Africaine, Niamey, Niger, du 22 au 25 septembre 2015 : JEU ET ORALITE DANS LES SOCIETES A TRADITION ORALE According to the main stream approaches to epistemic notions, knowledge and belief are understood as propositional operators. Thus, • Gildas believes that there is a witch in his village is understood as expressing a proposition. Moreover, • Gildas knows that Gödel proved the completeness of first-order logic, expresses a proposition too. The difference between both is that a belief-proposition can be true if it is " factually " false: in our case the proposition can be true in relation to Gildas's belief, that is, despite the fact that there is no witch in his village. Furthermore, assuming that there is not witch in his village, the following proposition is false • Gildas knows that there is a witch in his village. If the latter is false, from the point of view of the mainstream, there was not knowledge at all, rather it was from the start a belief that has not been verified. 1 The present paper is part of an ongoing project in the context of the research-program Argumentation, Decision, Action (ADA) and the project Logique, Argumentation et Cognition dans les Traditions Orales (LACTO) both supported by the Maison Européenne des Sciences de l' Homme et de la Société-USR 318 and by the laboratory UMR 8163: STL.

Crossed by insatiable one thirst of spirituality and freedom, the XXth centuryis known to be the one of «God’s Death or more explicitly that repositioning of theman in the center of the divine. It is in the moose of spiritual modernity, of renewal, thus various rejection of religious tradition that joins the poetic experience of PierreJean Jouve, Georges Bataille and Paul Valéry. While nothing seems to gather them, these three poets in the divergent andoften set ideas, an iconoclastic and heterodox believer, an atheist haunted by the questof the sacred and a pure rationalist in search of his "God", made of the universe of the poetry a place of questioning, deep exploration of the interiority and quest of one.Through an ecstasy at the same time poetic and mystic which makes the bedfor éros, love, music and death in a junction of Immanence and Transcendence, it take shape new ways of spiritual experiment which set up these poets as real prophetsof their time., Traversé par une insatiable soif de spiritualité et de liberté, le XXe siècle est connu pour être celui de la « Mort de Dieu » ou plus explicitement celui du repositionnement de l’homme au centre du divin.

This article analyses the implementation of co-management in developing countries twenty years after its introduction. In a context of tension between the inertia of developing countries and the pressure exerted by international organisations, the dominant model of interaction between central government and local communities is based on rent-seeking. This dominant model does not allow co-management projects to develop under ideal conditions, and in the end this affects how they work, and compromises the effectiveness of projects for the conservation of natural resources. Under these conditions, it appears to be essential to review the nature of the partnership between funding organisations and developing countries, which remains strongly centralised.JEL Classification: Q23; Q28, Cet article analyse, à l’aune de vingt années, la mise en œuvre de la gestion participative dans les pays en développement. Classification JEL: Q23, Q28.

Background Malaria remains a major threat, to both travellers and military personnel deployed to endemic areas. The recommendations for travellers given by the World Health Organization is based on the incidence of malaria in an area and do not take the degree of exposure into account. The aim of this article is to evaluate the exposure of travellers by entomologic methods, which are the commonly used measures of the intensity of malaria transmission. Methods From February 2004 to June 2004, five groups of 30 military personnel were stationed in up to 10 sites in western Côte d'Ivoire, from one week to several months. Adult mosquitoes were collected by human landing catches at each site during the five months and the level of exposure to malaria transmission of each group was estimated. Results The level of transmission varied from one site to another one from less than one to approximately more than 100 infective bites per month. In the majority of sites, at least two anopheline species were involved in transmission. The cumulative EIR over the study period varied according to the groups from 29 infected bites per person/per mission to 324. Conclusion The level of malaria transmission and malaria risk varies widely (varying by a factor of eleven) between groups of travellers travelling in the same region and at the same time. Physicians involved in travel medicine or supporting expatriated populations or refugees should consider this heterogeneity and emphasize the importance of combining appropriate measures, such as chemoprophylaxis and protective measures against mosquitoes.

- Abstract
Introduction: Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac rhythm disorder whose incidence with age and which is responsible for high morbidity and mortality., Objective: Evaluate the thromboembolic risk of patients with atrial fibrillation and analyze the quality of the oral anticoagulation therapy at the Abidjan cardiology institute., Methods: This was a multicenter, retrospective and prospective cross-sectional study, with descriptive and analytical aims in 332 patients followed for atrial fibrillation diagnosed on the electrocardiogram., Results: Average age of 61 years (standard deviation = 16), with a female predominance with a sex ratio (M/F) of 0.93. The circumstances of discovery of atrial fibrillation were mainly palpitations (58.1%). Hypertension (57.8%). was the most frequently encountered comorbidity Underlying heart diseases were dominated by dilated cardiomyopathy (26.8%) and hypertensive heart disease (18.1%). The average CHA2DS2-VASc score was = 3.1 (standard deviation = 1.5) revealing a high level of thromboembolic risk (CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥2) in 76% of cases. The mean HAS-BLED score was =1.9 (SD =1.2). VKA were the main antithrombotic therapy prescribed in our patients and appeared of poor quality with a TTR <65% in the great majority of patients (93,75%) CONCLUSION: Atrial fibrillation is a condition responsible for the occurrence of thromboembolic complications when antithrombotic management is not correct. In this instance good oral anticoagulation is the best treatment to instaure. VKA are the most prescribed OAC in our context. The evaluation of the quality of anticoagulation by vitamin K antagonist is essential by one of its most used indices is the time spent in the therapeutic zone (TTR)., (Copyright © 2024. - Abstract
Aim of the Study: The working environment and the low rate of pacemaker insertions increase the risk of complications in sub-Saharan Africa. The objective of our work was to assess the impact of specific preventive measures on these complications over the long term., Patient and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all pacemaker implantations from June 2006 to June 2016 at the Abidjan Heart Institute. We evaluated the incidence of pacemaker complications, their risks factors and their impact on the overall prognosis of patients., Results: Three hundred and two procedures were performed in 286 patients (49% male, mean age: 67±12 years), with a predominance of primary implantation (82.8%) of single-chamber ventricular pacemakers (66.6%). Twenty-five major complications (8.27%) and 14 minor (4.6%) occurred with a predominance of lead displacements (3.64%). The major complications were favored by the subclavian approach (P=0.018; OR=2.34; 95% CI [1.16-4.75]) and intraoperative incidents (P=0.02; OR=2.17; 95% CI [1.16-4.75]. The preventive measures taken made it possible to achieve a significant (P=0.017) and linear (P=0.009) reduction of these complications, with no effect the patients prognosis (Log-Rank=0.217; P=0.64)., Conclusion: Quality cardiac stimulation is possible in Sub-Saharan Africa with preventive measures adapted to the environment., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Masson SAS. - Abstract
Objective: The aim of our work was to appreciate the importance of comorbidities of heart failure individually and globally in patients hospitalized at the Cardiology Institute of Abidjan., Patients and Methods: This was a prospective cohort study of adult heart failure patients hospitalized from January to December 2015, and followed up over 12 months. Co-morbidities were analysed through their prevalence, their relationship with the etiologies, and their impact on the prognosis., Results: Three hundred and two patients (mean age: 55.5±16.9 years, 61.6 % male) were recruited. High blood pressure, anaemia and kidney dysfunction were the most common co-morbidities (48 %, 43.7 % and 41.3 % respectively). There was an average of 3.4±1.8 comorbidities per patient with an increase in the number of comorbidities with age (P<0.05) and a more frequent association with hypertensive and ischemic heart disease (P<0.001). During the one-year follow-up, 96 patients died. Apart from hepatic dysfunction (RR=1.97, 95 % CI [1,19-3.25], P=0.008, a high score of Charlson index appeared as a risk factor of death as much in univariate analysis (RR=4.15 95 % CI [2.32-7.41], P<0.001), as in multivariate analysis according to the Cox model (RR=2.48. 95 % CI [1.08-5.09], P=0.03) confirmed by Kaplan Meier curves (P<0.001)., Conclusion: Comorbidities are common in our heart failure patients and significantly affect their prognosis., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Masson SAS. - Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare sensitivities of enterovirus isolation from wastewater in different cell lines as well as to compare the sensitivity and specificity of isolation in cell culture with direct detection by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Sixty-eight samples of wastewaters were collected between September 2008 and January 2009 in Yopougon, Abidjan. Enteroviruses were concentrated according to World Health Organization recommendations. Viruses were inoculated into various cell lines while direct RT-PCR was performed on water concentrates. The buffalo green monkey kidney cell line was the most sensitive with 58.8 % of viral isolation. This was followed by the rhabdomyosarcoma cell line with sensitivity of 51.6 %, with human epidermoid carcinoma cell line showing sensitivity of 50 % and fibroblastic cells derived from transgenic mice LTK-1 (L20B) cell showing 23.50 % sensitivity. However, a lower specificity of 2.9 % was observed with the L20B cell line. 44.1 % of the samples were positive by direct RT-PCR detection while 51.47 % samples were positive by using RT-PCR on infected cell cultures. No difference in percentage positivity was observed using RT-PCR on infected tissue culture isolates or using RT-PCR directly on wastewater samples.

- Abstract
In the rural communities of Côte d'Ivoire, malaria control is guided by the sociocultural etiology or perception of this disease, as we can see by studies conducted in the Baoulé and Gouro communities. These studies show that these communities establish a link between the sun, excessive oil consumption, agricultural activities, disease, and lack of hygiene. Mosquitoes, however, are not identified as the cause of malaria but rather as an insect noxious by their noise and painful bites. These populations use both traditional and modern means to move mosquitoes away from their homes. Analysis of this social reality shows that the battle against malaria in rural areas is not simply a problem of health education. It is thus important in developing malaria control programmes to adopt a strategy that links community participation and health education.

- Abstract
Dilation and hypertrophy of the atria occur in patients with valvular heart disease especially in mitral regurgitation, mitral stenosis or tricuspid abnormalities. In sub-saharan Africa, rheumatic fever is still the leading cause of valvular heart disease. We report a case of an unusual giant right atrium in context of rheumatic stenosis and severe tricuspid regurgitation in a 58-year-old woman.

- Abstract
The promotion of pyrethroid impregnated bednets among the populations is a major activity of the National Malaria Vector Control Programs in African tropical countries. However pyrethroid resistance in Anopheles gambiae, a major malaria vector, has been observed in several parts of Côte-d'Ivoire since 1993. As insecticides used in agriculture against pests are frequently considered as important factors responsible for resistance in malaria vectors, we have evaluated insecticide resistance of An. gambiae populations taking into account the main crops cultivated in Côte-d'Ivoire. Five areas were selected according to the use of insecticide either in agriculture or for domestic purposes: a urban area where vegetables and rice are main crops, a rural rice growing area, a rural area of coffee/cocoa production, a rural area of fruit farming and a rural area without any use of agricultural insecticide. Susceptibility tests were carried out using WHO diagnostic test kits. About 6500 females of An. gambiae were exposed to insecticide impregnated papers (permethrin 1%, deltamethrin 0.05%, DDT 4%) for one hour. Results confirmed that both mortality rates and knockdown time analysis were important to study the resistance data. By using mortality rates, populations of An. gambiae were found to be resistant to pyrethroids and DDT in four of the five areas. Resistance was the highest in urban area, lower in fruit and coffee/cocoa areas and at low level in rice growing area. An. gambiae from area without agricultural treatment was found susceptible to pyrethroids but slightly resistant to DDT A significant increase of knockdown time was observed in all areas with the 3 insecticides. These results agreed with previous studies showing that kdr mutation was the main resistance mechanism to pyrethroids in An. gambiae populations in Côte-d'Ivoire. They also agreed with knockdown time which is an early indicator of resistance development for the population in area without agricultural treatment. In this population the frequency of homozygous resistant individuals was probably too low to have a significant decrease of mortality rates to pyrethroids.

- Abstract
Observations on the parasitism of Glossina palpalis palpalis by Hexamermis glossinae were carried out over a period of one year by catching flies at Abengourou, Aboisso and Daloa (forested area of Ivory Coast). No parasite is observed out of 2,168 Glossina palpalis palpalis caught in Abengourou and 9,732 in Aboisso. At Daloa, dissections of 7,341 Glossina reveal 1.75% parasited flies. All the worms were located in the abdominal cavity, loosely intertwined with the internal organ. Males were more infested than females (2.68% versus 1.26%). The parasites were more abundant among the nulliparous (2.30%) than the young parous (1.19%) and than the old parous (0.52%). The majority of infected flies were caught at the beginning of the rainy season (5.17%) and few in the dry season (0.23%). The low parasitic infection rate observed here indicates a minimal effect on the population dynamics of the vector of sleeping sickness in Ivory Coast.

- Abstract
Study of reproductive disorders were carried out through the dissection of 11,012 tsetse flies caught over a period of one year in forested different habitats of Glossina palpalis palpalis of Daloa in Ivory Coast. The proportion of females with reproductive disorders was very low and estimated at 0.79%. Out of 87 tsetse files with reproductive disorders, 93.10% were abortions, 5.77% were ovular blockage and 1.13% was uterine pupaison. Reproductive disorders were recorded from all age groups: 0.78% in young parous (out of 6,398 tsetse flies examined) and 0.80% in old parous (out of 4,614 tsetse flies dissequed). Our results show that reproductive disorders occur at any stage of the female pregnancy cycle. Amplifying these reproductive disorders using chemical compounds is proposed as a way of improving the efficacy of insecticide-impregnated targets (pour-on, traps and screens) of tsetse control in rain-forest areas.

- Abstract
With the interruption of larva treatments done by OCP as part of onchocerciasis control in West Africa, Simulium came back in abundance in forest regions and savannah fertile valleys. In addition to the severe discomfort, nuisance by Simulium is in certain cases incompatible with land use. Since ground treatment of larval breading sites using insecticides is not always possible or efficient, it is therefore a necessity to develop other methods among which individual protection against Simulium bites. The general objective of our study was to evaluate different vegetable oil compound repellent formulas against Simulium bites. Activities were carried out in savannah zone (Niakaramandougou) and in forest zone (Soubré) in Côte d'Ivoire. The methodology consisted in catching blackflies on volunteers whose legs were rubbed with a repellent. Gobi raw oil and coconut, palm nut and gobi formulas (lotions and creams) were tested. During each session, which lasted from 07:00 am to 12:00 and from 03:00 pm to 06:00 pm, one person did not apply any repellent and was used as the control person. The results of our experimentations show that for a given zone (savannah, forest), a repellent (coconut, palm nut, gobi) and a compound (shea butter, vaseline), there is no significant difference between protection rates obtained with lotions (maximum: 21 bites/person/day) and those obtained with creams (maximum: 30 bites/person/day). In other respects, the lotion of a given repellent seems to be efficient in savannah as in the forest, in protecting against Simulium bites. It is the same situation with creams. So, repellents can be an efficient solution against Simulium nuisance. However, experimentations should continue to confirm the high repellency of tested formulas, proceed to the identification of principles and evaluate the toxicity and irritant effect of repellents to be applied on the skin.
