FeO is an important component in both mantle silicates and core iron alloys. Understanding its melting behavior and physical properties is crucial for exploring the chemistry and physics of our planet. Here we report the melting curve of FeO up to 186 GPa from laser‐heating experiments in a diamond‐anvil cell coupled with synchrotron X‐ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. In‐situ observations of both temperature plateau and changes in XRD patterns were used as primary melting criteria. The ex‐situ examination of a recovered sample shows consistent melting temperatures of FeO with in‐situ determinations. Our melting curve of FeO agrees with existing low‐pressure data within uncertainties and is much lower than earlier experimental results above 100 GPa including those extrapolated by Lindemann's law. Our results indicate that FeO‐rich materials could be present as melts coexisting with surrounding solids in the lowermost mantle, providing plausible explanations to the seismically observed ultra‐low velocity zones. Our results show that the melting temperature of FeO is 3,440 ± 250 K at 135 GPa, the Earth's core‐mantle boundary (CMB) pressure. The MgO‐FeO‐SiO2 melting phase diagram shows that fractional crystallization of mantle silicate melts would end up with a cotectic ternary minimum containing up to 95 mol% FeO, which would have a similar or slightly lower melting temperature than FeO. Considering the temperature at present‐day CMB, we anticipate that FeO‐rich materials, possible products of late‐stage magma ocean crystallization, would still exist as melts with surrounding solids at the bottom of the mantle. Due to its liquid nature and high density, the existence of FeO‐rich melts above the CMB could provide important insights for explaining the seismologically observed ultra‐low velocity zones. Petrogenetic models of martian magmas reflect the compositional, thermal, and geodynamical evolution of its interior. Most models for shergottite meteorites, which sampled relatively young martian basalts, invoke partial melting in a mantle plume head and filtering of the magma through the crust. Olivine-phyric, poikilitic, and olivine-gabbroic shergottites contain large, Mg-rich olivine crystals that record their parent magma history and are generally regarded to form initially in slow cooling, near-equilibrium environments in the lower crust. Here we report the unexpected common occurrence of Mg-rich olivine crystals with chained, mantled dendritic, and skeletal morphologies that reflect rapid growth, requiring relatively large degrees of undercooling and possibly moderate to fast cooling rates. Novel 3D analysis of crystal textures and core Fe-Mg content demonstrates that chained and mantled dendritic olivines in enriched shergottites are among the earliest-formed crystals, indicating rapid crystal growth during initial magma pooling in the lower crust, a process that has not been documented in Earth basalts. In geochemically depleted shergottites, skeletal olivines appear later in the crystallization sequence, but before the final eruption and solidification. Geochemically intermediate samples do not contain rapid-growth olivine, indicating extended equilibrium growth. The frequent occurrence of chained, mantled dendritic, and skeletal olivines in enriched and depleted shergottites suggests that the conditions needed for rapid growth are common for mafic magmatism on Mars, and that these magmas experience complex thermal histories characterized by discrete episodes of large undercooling at depth. Potassium (K) isotopic compositions for a suite of crustal rocks (plutonic unit, sheeted dike complex, and volcanic sequence) in the Troodos ophiolite, Cyprus, were determined to investigate fluid-transport processes during subduction inception. The gabbros and plagiogranites in the plutonic unit have restricted K isotopic compositions (0.01–0.20 ‰ and −0.17 to 0.02 ‰, respectively), whereas diabases in the sheeted dike complex have variable δ41K values from −0.24 to 1.13 ‰. The δ41K values of the volcanic sequence range from −0.26 to −0.07 ‰ in the lower pillow lavas, and from −0.71 to 0.34 ‰ in the upper pillow lavas. These δ41K values are clearly distinct from those of subducting sediments and altered oceanic crust, ruling out direct crustal input as the cause of the unusually heavy K isotopic compositions. Rather, the high K/Th, K/U, and Sr/Th ratios of the investigated samples, together with binary mixing modelling, reveal that the anomalously heavy K isotopic compositions in Troodos rocks are attributed to the influx of fluids during subduction inception. Notably, the δ41K values in the crustal rocks of the Troodos ophiolite are more variable and extend to higher values than those of arc-front and rear-arc lavas of the Izu arc and arc lavas of Martinique in the Lesser Antilles, indicating continuous K isotope fractionation during slab dehydration. Thus, the heavy K isotopic compositions of the Troodos ophiolite reflect K isotope fractionation during dehydration of a shallow slab within a newly formed subduction system, where heavy K isotopes preferentially enter into the aqueous fluids. Basaltic volcanism on the Moon produced low- and high-Ti mare basalt suites that are also distinct with respect to their iron, titanium, and magnesium isotopic compositions. Here, the equilibrium fractionation of Fe and Ti isotopes between ilmenite and melt was experimentally investigated in order to evaluate the role of ilmenite in generating the isotopic compositional variability among the lunar mare basalts. Ilmenite crystallization experiments were conducted using two bulk compositions: an ilmenite-saturated basaltic andesite and an ilmenite-saturated Apollo 14 black glass, and the Fe and Ti isotopic compositions of the experimental ilmenites and glass (quenched melt) were analyzed using solution MC-ICPMS after hand-picking. Additionally, Nuclear Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (NRIXS) measurements on synthetic ilmenite were conducted and compared to previous NRIXS measurements on synthetic lunar glasses in order to derive temperature-dependent equilibrium ilmenite-melt Fe isotopic fractionations. Experimentally determined ilmenite-melt fractionations were then incorporated into a lunar magma ocean crystallization model that tracks the major element and isotopic compositional evolution of lunar magma ocean cumulates and residual liquid. There is good agreement between the Fe equilibrium isotopic fractionation measured by NRIXS and the laboratory equilibration experiments, and we find that the isotopic fractionation is sensitive to ilmenite compositional differences (0 vs. 10% Fe3+). Further, the light Ti isotopic composition of ilmenite relative to the melt (Δ 49 Ti = ilmenite-melt − 0.09 ± 0.03 ‰ at 1100 ∘C) is consistent with the higher coordination of Ti in ilmenite relative to melts and results of previous studies. The modeled Ti isotopic compositions for lunar magma ocean cumulates display Ti isotopic variability sufficient to explain the low- and high-Ti mare basalt sources. However, the difference in Fe isotopic composition between the low- and high-Ti mare basalts cannot be attributed solely to ilmenite fractionation. Instead, Fe isotopic fractionation by additional products of lunar magma ocean crystallization, such as clinopyroxene, is required to generate the inferred Fe and Mg isotopic variability in the lunar mantle. Alternatively, the Fe and Mg isotopic compositions of the lunar mare basalts may indicate Fe-Mg interdiffusion has occurred in the Ti-rich component of the mare basalt source regions via reaction between ilmenite cumulates and the olivine- and pyroxene-rich lunar mantle. Granulites and eclogites are useful for revealing the thermal and tectonic evolution of orogens. Early Palaeozoic granulites and associated eclogites in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB) display contrasting metamorphic age. Such asynchronous granulite–eclogite associations have rarely been reported, and the geological significance of their existence remains to be further explored. In this study, petrological and geochronological techniques were used to investigate two felsic and two mafic granulites collected from the Qingshuiquan area in the eastern section of the EKOB. These rocks record similar P–T paths, which are characterized by a peak stage within suprasolidus and high‐pressure (HP) granulite facies conditions (750–832°C and 10.1–12.0 kbar), followed by an initial decompression and cooling stage to subsolidus conditions (600–748°C and 6.5–8.6 kbar), and then a stage of further retrogression under greenschist facies conditions. The protoliths to these granulites are of volcanic and sedimentary origin and suggested to be a component of the continental basement unit. Metamorphic P–T paths indicate that these rocks experienced peak metamorphism at a depth of ~40 km, then cooling and uplift to a depth of ~25 km, and eventually experienced low‐grade retrogression at shallow crustal levels. Cathodoluminescence images and compositional data demonstrate that the zircons in these rocks are of metamorphic origin and they crystallized at or near peak conditions. SIMS U–Pb dating of representative zircon grains yield concordant metamorphic ages of c. 490–520 Ma, with a peak value of 505 Ma on the probability density curve. These ages are similar to other 480–530 Ma ages typically retrieved from EKOB granulites and associated rocks, and are markedly older than the 400–450 Ma ages retrieved from eclogites and their host rocks. The HP granulites and eclogites of the EKOB do not show overprinting relationships. Such asynchronous characteristics imply that the two rock types formed in distinct tectonic settings and at different stages of a protracted subduction–collision process. The studied granulites are suggested to have formed in the root of a continental arc during a stage of Proto‐Tethys Ocean subduction. Ultrahigh‐temperature (UHT) granulites, a prominent feature of Paleoproterozoic orogenic belts, preserve a record of geodynamic processes during the Precambrian (Archean–Paleoproterozoic). Quantitative pressure–temperature–time (P–T–t) paths of these UHT granulites can constrain the tectonic processes and metamorphic evolution in such a tectonic regime. Here, UHT mafic granulites with a high‐pressure (HP) prograde path are first reported in the Diebusige Complex in the Alxa Block, western part of the Khondalite Belt (KB), North China Craton (NCC). The detailed petrographic studies show that two mafic granulite samples preserve corona textures around relict garnet or garnet pseudomorphs (completely replaced by plagioclase), and a third mafic granulite sample has a relatively simple mineralogy with a granoblastic‐polygonal texture. These mafic granulites have similar peak (Tmax) assemblages of clinopyroxene + orthopyroxene + plagioclase + ilmenite ± garnet ± amphibole ± quartz + melt. Phase equilibrium modelling and Ti‐in‐amphibole and rare earth element (REE)‐based thermometries all constrain similar peak conditions of ~880–950°C/~8.5–10 kbar implying an ~100°C/kbar apparent geothermal gradient for these mafic granulites. Based on the corona textures or pseudomorphs of garnet and mineral assemblages, we identified a Pmax (~14 kbar) prograde stage before the Tmax stage. Thus, a clockwise P–T path with heating and decompression followed by near‐isobaric cooling (IBC) is recorded from these UHT mafic granulites. In addition, zircon and apatite SHRIMP or LA–ICP–MS U–Pb dating yields an age interval of ~1.81–1.7 Ga, which is interpreted as representing the cooling time from ~900–800°C to ~575°C at the middle‐upper crustal levels (<25 km deep) for these mafic granulites, with an ~1.5–2.5°C/Myr cooling rate. The new P–T–t path of these rocks includes high‐pressure prograde, UHT peak, and slow cooling retrograde processes, which implicates a post‐collisional tectonic setting for UHT metamorphism in the KB and the processes of collision, exhumation, and cooling of the KB. The kinematics and deformation pattern along the Altyn Tagh fault (ATF), one of the largest strike‐slip faults on Earth is of great significance for understanding the growth of the Tibetan Plateau. However, the initial rupture along the ATF remains debated given the limited constraints on the depositional age of associated Cenozoic syntectonic strata. Here we investigated the syntectonic Cenozoic strata in the Xorkol Basin, associated with the strike‐slip faulting along the ATF. New uranium‐lead analyses of the carbonate deposits in the Paleogene strata yield dates of 58.9 ± 1.29 Ma, representing the initial rupture of the ATF. This first documented radioisotopic age coincides with the ca. 60 Ma onset timing of India‐Asia collision, highlighting its far‐field effect at the northern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. We infer that the deformation of the entire Tibetan Plateau started synchronously with the India‐Asia collision. Plain Language Summary: Carbonate U‐Pb dating techniques applied to rocks associated with the Altyn Tagh fault, a major fault in North Tibet, reveal that the fault started slipping about 58.9 million years ago, coinciding with the time when India collided with Asia. This finding provides new constraints on when and where this fault formed and suggests that the northern Tibetan Plateau started deformation earlier than previously thought. This result emphasizes that the entire Tibetan Plateau deformed simultaneously in the early Cenozoic. The chemical and pore structures of coal play a crucial role in determining the content of free gas in coal reservoirs. This study focuses on investigating the impact of acidification transformation on the micro-physical and chemical structure characteristics of coal samples collected from Wenjiaba No. 1 Mine in Guizhou. The research involves a semi-quantitative analysis of the chemical structure parameters and crystal structure of coal samples before and after acidification using Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments. Additionally, the evolution characteristics of the pore structure are characterized through high-pressure mercury injection (HP-MIP), low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (LT-N2A), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental findings reveal that the acid solution modifies the structural features of coal samples, weakening certain vibrational structures and altering the chemical composition. Specifically, the asymmetric vibration structure of aliphatic CH2, the asymmetric vibration of aliphatic CH3, and the symmetric vibration of CH2 are affected. This leads to a decrease in the contents of -OH and -NH functional groups while increasing aromatic structures. The crystal structure of coal samples primarily dissolves transversely after acidification, affecting intergranular spacing and average height. Acid treatment corrodes mineral particles within coal sample cracks, augmenting porosity, average pore diameter, and the ratio of macro-pores to transitional pores. Moreover, acidification increases fracture width and texture, enhancing the connectivity of the fracture structure in coal samples. The Late Mesozoic subduction of Izanagi slab beneath East Asia formed large-scale intraplate magmatism in SE South China and subduction mélanges outcropped in SW Japan to eastern Taiwan Island, but the accompanying arc remains uncertain. We conducted LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating and trace element analyses of proximal sandstones from the SW East China Sea to trace a Jurassic to Cretaceous magmatic arc. Newly acquired data reveal that arc magmatism mostly developed in episodes of 150–124 and 124–102 Ma, exhibiting characteristics of low-T, high Th/U, U/Yb, Sc/Yb, Th/Nb, and low Nb/Yb, Nb/Hf ratios. This magmatic arc, combined with the SE South China intraplate and residual subduction mélanges, spatially forms a Late Mesozoic trench–arc–intraplate architecture responding to the Izanagi subduction. Its identified tectonic scenarios mainly include slab strike-slip subduction (200–170 Ma), slab stagnation and intraplate foundering (170–150 Ma), slab rollback and arc-root removal (150–102 Ma), and arc migration (102–86 Ma). Both the western East China Sea and Cathaysia block share a unified Paleoproterozoic basement that formed at ca. 1.85 Ga, and the Cathaysia-based magmatic arc occurred then. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Komsomolsk tin-ore district is located along the Miao-Chan Ridge in the Middle Amur River area (Khabarovsk krai) within the Badzhal accretionary terrane of the Sikhote-Alin orogenic belt. This work presents new results of U–Pb zircon dating of tonalite from the Miao-Chan complex of the Silinka granite pluton (99.7 ± 1.1 Ma) and rhyolites of the lower part of the Kholdami Formation (98.4 ± 1.0 and 98.7 ± 1.2 Ma) from the northeastern part of the Komsomolsk district. The geochemical characteristics of the rocks studied show that granitoids of the Miao-Chan complex are I-type rocks and that synchronous rhyolites of the Kholdami Formation are highly aluminous and correspond to S-type rocks. New data on the composition and early Cenomanian age of the rocks make it possible to consider the ore-magmatic system of the Komsomolsk ore district as part of the previously identified Albian–Cenomanian igneous province of Pacific Asia. The unexpected discovery of felsic magma by the Iceland Deep Drilling Project-1 (IDDP-1) in the Krafla volcanic system (KVS) presents a unique opportunity to investigate pre-eruptive lithium (Li) dynamics and establish a more direct connection between magma reservoirs and volcanic deposits. Our study provides new insights into Li abundances and isotope compositions in bulk-rock, minerals, and groundmass glass from rhyolitic lavas at KVS, encompassing various stages of groundmass crystallisation. Additionally, we examined felsic cuttings retrieved from the IDDP-1 well, comprising crystal-poor obsidian and crystal-bearing to -rich 'felsite' particles. Groundmass glasses from surface lavas show limited variability in K/Na, indicating limited secondary hydration of the glasses and that their Li contents seem to not be affected by this post-eruptive process. Lithium inventories in groundmass glasses and minerals within lavas exhibit variations consistent with the cooling history of the deposit, resembling patterns seen in Snake River Plain ignimbrites. Lithium contents of glassy rhyolitic lavas, whether bulk-rock (avg. 27.2 ± 3.1 μg/g) or groundmass glass (average 28.4 ± 4.7 μg/g), and their bulk isotopic compositions (avg. δ7Li =+ 4.4 ± 0.2‰) overlap with those observed in IDDP-1 obsidian cuts (avg. 24.9 μg/g Li in bulk, 28.6 ± 1.5 μg/g in groundmass glass, and δ7Li = 4.5 ± 0.2‰). Glassy lavas lacking spherulites may potentially preserve pristine magmatic Li element and isotope compositions, while areas with extensive groundmass crystallisation reveal Li enrichments in phenocrysts. Plagioclases in slowly cooled parts of the deposit record a two-fold increase in Li contents compared to plagioclase found in glassy counterparts, along with evidence of open-system degassing marked by heavier bulk Li isotope compositions and lower bulk Li contents of the crystallised lava portions (avg. δ7Li = +7.2 ± 0.1‰ and 7 ± 0.8 μg/g Li) relative to bulk glassy lithologies (avg. δ7Li = +4.1 ± 0.1‰ and 28 ± 2 μg/g Li). Partition coefficients derived from IDDP-1 cuts successfully predict Li inventories in vitrophyres of rhyolites on the surface of the KVS. Lithium isotope compositions of the crystal-rich IDDP-1 cuts are significantly heavier (avg. δ7Li = +7.2 ± 0.2‰) than lavas and IDDP-1 obsidian cuts, casting doubt on the notion that the IDDP-1 rhyolitic magma could result from the melting of felsite lenses in the KVS. Lithium contents in groundmass glasses within IDDP-1 crystal-rich cuts show higher Li contents (avg. 55.1–60.7 μg/g), correlating with the higher crystal content and an increase in other incompatible elements (avg. 250 μg/g Rb) relative to obsidian cuttings (avg. 75 μg/g Rb). This paper presents the results of mineralogical, geochemical, isotope, and geochemical (Sm–Nd) studies of siltstones from the upper Bystraya subformation of the Argun continental massif, as well as U–Pb dating of detrital zircon grains from them. The main goal of the research was to identify the main sources of clastic material, to reconstruct the paleogeodynamic environment of accumulation, and to constrain the lower age limit for the formation of terrigenous rocks of the upper Bystraya subformation. The mineralogical composition of the studied rocks indicates their accumulation in an environment associated with subduction processes. The trace element composition of siltstones from the subformation suggests the presence of rocks of mixed composition in the source area in terms of their silica content. Based on Sm–Nd isotope and geochemical data, it was established that the main sources of clastic material for siltstones of the stratigraphic unit were Paleoproterozoic rocks and (or) younger rocks whose formation is associated with the reworking of the Paleoproterozoic continental crust. Most of the zircons from the studied siltstone sample of the upper Bystraya subformation are Neo- and Paleoproterozoic in age. Their sources are probably Neo- and Paleoproterozoic igneous rocks widespread within the Argun massif in China. The ages of the youngest zircons (556 ± 9 and 566 ± 10 Ma) isolated from siltstones of the upper Bystraya subformation were used to constrain the lower limit of their accumulation at the middle Ediacaran. Crystal‐hosted melt embayments and melt inclusions partially record magmatic processes at depth, but it is not always obvious how to interpret this record. One impediment is our incomplete understanding of how embayments and melt inclusions form. In this study, we investigate the formation mechanism of embayments and melt inclusions during quartz growth to quantify the relationship between the compositions of the entrapped and average melt. We study the growth of embayments and inclusions through direct numerical simulations that couple the growth of a crystal surface with the evolution of the concentrations of incompatible components in the surrounding melt. We find that H2O is more enriched in the interior of defects on crystal surface compared to the exterior. The resultant lower disequilibrium in the defect interior causes lower growth rate than in the exterior, elongating the defect into an embayment. If crystal growth stops, the composition in the embayment equilibrates with the average melt within days to months. If crystal growth continues until the embayment neck closes, a melt inclusion forms. The melt entrapped by both embayments and melt inclusions is enriched in incompatible components, such as H2O and CO2. In addition to inclusion size, the enrichment of incompatible components in melt inclusions also depends on component diffusivity and the crystal growth regime. High‐diffusivity components like H2O have similar enrichment levels in all scenarios, while lower‐diffusivity components like CO2 are more enriched in melt inclusions with smaller sizes or formed in continuous crystal growth. These droplets may contain valuable clues for understanding processes inside volcanoes inaccessible to direct observation, because they typically form at depth before the onset of eruptions. Embayments are partially connected to exterior melt and can record processes during eruption. Melt inclusions are fully isolated and can record magma compositions at depth. However, we do not yet understand how they form. Our lack of understanding hinders our ability to interpret this data. Here, we use numerical simulations to quantify how the enrichment of dissolved water in the melt near the crystal affects the formation of embayments and melt inclusions during quartz growth. There is a positive feedback between the water enrichment in the embayment interior and embayment elongation, because water is not integrated into the quartz as it grows. Our simulations put constraints on the application of embayments and melt inclusions to constrain volcanic processes: For embayments, component enrichment likely equilibrates with surrounding melt prior to eruption. For melt inclusions, high‐diffusivity components like water are similarly enriched in all scenarios, while lower‐diffusivity components like carbon dioxide are more enriched in smaller inclusions formed in continuous crystal growth. Simultaneous U–Pb and U–Th dating using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was performed on the ca. 0.1 Ma Toya tephra and the ca. 0.08 Ma SS14-28 U–Th zircon reference material. In U–Pb dating, both Th/U and Pa/U partitioning between magma and minerals were considered. In U–Th dating, both abundance sensitivity and molecular interferences on 230Th were reevaluated. As a result, the Toya tephra yielded an accurate weighted mean U–Pb age of 0.103 ± 0.029 Ma (2σ) using zircon and monazite. Conversely, the SS14-28 zircon yielded an inaccurate U–Pb age (0.25 ± 0.10 Ma), which was attributed to low 206Pb signal intensity. Both the Toya tephra zircon and the SS14-28 zircon yielded accurate U–Th model ages of 0.108 ± 0.014 Ma and 0.078 ± 0.007 Ma, respectively. The agreement of U–Pb and U–Th ages for Toya indicates that simultaneous U–Pb and U–Th dating is possible and viable. The inappropriate age of SS14-28 U–Pb age and appropriate U–Th model age also indicates it is preferable to apply both U–Pb and U–Th dating simultaneously for young (<0.4 Ma) zircons to check internal consistency. The proposed double dating approach may be especially useful for small grains when it otherwise would be impossible to obtain multiple ages from a single grain. By adopting simultaneous U–Pb and U–Th dating using LA-ICP-MS, zircon crystallization ages as old as 4.5 Ga to as young as 0.1 Ma (or even younger) can be obtained in a quick and cost-effective manner with a reasonable (~5% at 1σ) uncertainty. The large-sized Tarangaole uranium deposit and its neighboring Daying and Nalinggou deposits, located in the northeastern margin of the Ordos Basin, constitutes a major uranium resource base in northern China. In order to further clarify the sedimentary material source, uranium source and regional sediment–tectonic setting of the uranium-fed clastic rocks (i.e., Zhiluo Formation(J2z)) in the district, this paper carried out whole-rock geochemistry, heavy minerals composition and in situ U-Pb dating of detrital zircons for sandstones from the lower section of the Zhiluo Formation. The results have shown that the average chemical differentiation index (CIA) for the host rocks is 73.16 and the chemical weathering degree is moderate. Heavy minerals are mainly composed of ilmenite, garnet, chlorpyrite, zircon, pyrite, apatite, hematite, etc. The U-Pb dating of detrital zircon generally indicates three age peaks, i.e., 260~Ma, 1850~Ma and 2450~Ma, respectively. In conclusion, the source rocks may have been formed at active continental margins, e.g., in a continental margin arc environment. The sedimentary materials mainly come from khondalite series, TTGs, granulite, and mafic–ultramafic intrusive rocks distributed among the Daqing–Ula Mountains and adjacent areas, etc. The Late Paleozoic U-rich intermediate and acidic magmatic rocks spreading over the eastern part of the Ula–Daqing and Wolf mountains have provided the main uranium sources for the formation of major U deposits in the northern Ordos Basin. The major- and trace-element compositions of amphiboles in andesite from Quaternary Yufu Volcano, northeastern Kyushu, Japan were analysed to investigate the generation processes of andesitic magma from Yufu Volcano. The amphiboles in andesite from Yufu volcano can be divided into two groups based on major-element composition: pargasite and magnesio-hornblende. To estimate temperature, pressure, and major- and trace-element compositions of melts in equilibrium with amphiboles, we used the recently proposed methods that can calculate temperature, pressure, major element compositions, and partition coefficients of trace-element between amphibole and melt using only the major-element compositions of amphibole. The estimated temperature, pressure, and major-element composition of melt in equilibrium with the amphibole phenocrysts indicate that each group crystallised under different conditions. These differences suggest that two magma chambers at different depths existed beneath Yufu Volcano and that the andesitic magma of Yufu Volcano was formed by mixing of the two magmas. The trace-element compositions of melts in equilibrium with the pargasite and magnesio-hornblende, estimated by applying the partition coefficients calculated from major-element compositions of amphibole to trace-element compositions of amphiboles, indicate magma derived from slab melt and the partial melting of crustal material, respectively. Because magma is a mixture of minerals and melt, we estimate the chemical compositional ranges of the two end-member magmas on the Y versus SiO2 diagram from the mixing relationship between amphibole and estimated melt, as well as phenocrysts of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and orthopyroxene. The overlap of the estimated compositional range with the trend of whole-rock composition represents the chemical compositions of the end-members of magma mixing, yielding estimates of the mafic (SiO2 ≈ 45 wt %) and felsic (SiO2 ≈ 68 wt %) end-member magmas. Furthermore, we estimate the concentrations of other elements in the end-member magmas by substituting the estimated SiO2 concentrations of the magmas into linear regression equations between the whole-rock contents of other elements and SiO2. The trace-element compositions of the mafic and felsic end-member magmas, as estimated in this study, have similar features to those of gabbroids and Cretaceous granitic rocks, respectively, that are presumed to lie beneath Yufu Volcano. The Ora Ignimbrite (~275 Ma) is a crystal-rich (~40%), heterogeneous, supereruption-sized (~1300 km3) rhyolite in northern Italy and the final eruptive product of the Athesian Volcanic Group (289–274 Ma), the largest Permian volcanic district in Europe. Two key outcrops, an intracaldera vitrophyre and an outflow vitrophyre, contain well-preserved, glass-bearing juvenile material. We investigate at what scale heterogeneities existed in the Ora magmatic system by studying the geochemical and petrological characteristics of crystal-rich (20–50%) and crystal-poor (<20%) fiamme from the Ora vitrophyres, allowing us to reconstruct critical aspects of Ora's magmatic architecture and pre-eruptive history and granting us further insight into the storage and dynamic processes that occur in large, crystal-rich, silicic systems. Textural analysis of fiamme reveals four types: the intracaldera vitrophyre has very coarse-grained crystal-rich (VCCR) and fine-grained crystal-poor (I-FCP) fiamme, while the outflow vitrophyre has coarse-grained crystal-rich (CCR) and fine-grained crystal-poor (O-FCP) fiamme. The diversity of crystal-poor (I-FCP & O-FCP) fiamme glass trace-element compositions suggests that multiple small crystal-poor magma bodies were dispersed throughout the Ora magmatic system. Compositionally and texturally distinct glass types in single O-FCP fiamme preserve evidence of variable degrees of magma mixing and record different mingling to eruption timescales, revealing that the Ora magmatic system experienced multiple silicic recharge events. In the crystal-rich (VCCR & CCR) fiamme, high crystal contents (VCCR: 40–50%; CCR: 20–40%), large crystals (max grain size: VCCR: 4–10 mm; CCR: 3–4 mm), and interlocking growth textures suggest that these fiamme contain parcels of disaggregated magma mush. High-silica rhyolite glass compositions (77.2–78.3 wt.% SiO2) and extremely depleted Sr (VCCR: <20; CCR: <5 ppm) and Ba (VCCR: <70; CCR: <20 ppm) glass trace-element concentrations indicate that the crystal-rich fiamme glasses represent highly fractionated melts. Crystal-rich fiamme glass trace-element compositions also form discrete, tightly clustered populations, suggesting that multiple crystal-rich, melt-dominated magma bodies existed prior to eruption. We propose that the coexistence of large-scale heterogeneity (e.g. deposit-scale and outcrop-scale) with small-scale homogeneity observed in crystal-rich fiamme is resolved by a model in which at least two separate magma reservoirs, each containing multiple melt-dominant magma bodies, erupted to form the Ora Ignimbrite. Experimentally calibrated models to recover pressures and temperatures of magmas are widely used in igneous petrology. However, large errors, especially in barometry, limit the capacity of these models to resolve the architecture of crustal igneous systems. Here, we apply machine learning to a large experimental database to calibrate new regression models that recover P–T of magmas based on melt composition plus associated phase assemblage. The method is applicable to compositions from basalt to rhyolite, pressures from 0.2 to 15 kbar, and temperatures of 675°C to 1400°C. Testing and optimisation of the model with a filter that removes estimates with standard deviation above the 50th percentile show that pressures can be recovered with root-mean-square-error (RMSE) of 1.1 to 1.3 kbar and errors on temperature estimates of 21°C. Our findings demonstrate that, given constraints on the coexisting mineral assemblage, melt chemistry is a reliable recorder of magmatic variables. This is a consequence of the relatively low thermodynamic variance of natural magma compositions despite their relatively large number of constituent oxide components. We apply our model to two contrasting cases with well-constrained geophysical information: Mount St. Helens volcano (USA), and Askja caldera in Iceland. Dacite whole-rocks from Mount St Helens erupted 1980 to 1986, inferred to represent liquids extracted from cpx–hbl–opx–plag–mt–ilm mush, yield melt extraction source pressures of 5.1 to 6.7 kbar in excellent agreement with geophysical constraints. Melt inclusions and matrix glasses record lower pressures (0.7–3.8 kbar), consistent with magma crystallisation within the upper reaches of the imaged geophysical anomaly and during ascent. Magma reservoir depth estimates for historical eruptions from Askja match the location of seismic wave speed anomalies. Vp/Vs anomalies at 5 to 10 km depth correspond to hot (~990°C) rhyolite source regions, while basaltic magmas (~1120°C) were stored at 7 to 17 km depth under the caldera. These examples illustrate how our model can link petrology and geophysics to better constrain the architecture of volcanic feeding systems. Post‐collisional magmatism contains important clues for understanding the reworking and growth of continental crust, as well as lithospheric delamination and orogenic collapse. Early Devonian magmatism has been identified in the North Qilian Orogenic Belt (NQOB). This paper reports an integrated study of petrology, whole‐rock geochemistry, Sm‐Nd isotope and zircon U‐Pb dating, as well as Lu‐Hf isotopic data, for two Early Devonian intrusive plutons. The Yongchang and Chijin granites yield zircon U‐Pb ages of 394–407 Ma and 414 Ma, respectively. Both of them are characterized by weakly peraluminous to metaluminous without typical aluminium‐rich minerals, LREE‐enriched patterns with negative Eu anomalies and a negative correlation between P2O5 and SiO2 contents, consistent with geochemical features of I‐type granitoids. Zircons from the studied granites display negative to weak positive εHf(t) values (–5.7 to 2.1), which agree well with those of negative εNd(t) values (−6.4 to −2.9) for the whole‐rock samples, indicating that they were derived from the partial melting of Mesoproterozoic crust. Furthermore, low Sr/Y ratios (1.13–21.28) and high zircon saturation temperatures (745°C to 839°C, with the majority being >800°C) demonstrated a relatively shallow depth level below the garnet stability field and an additional heat source. Taken together, the Early Devonian granitic magmatism could have been produced by the partial melting of ancient crustal materials heated by mantle‐derived magmas at high‐temperature and low‐pressure conditions during post‐collisional extensional collapse. The data obtained in this study, when viewed in conjunction with previous studies, provides more information about the tectonic processes that followed the closure of the North Qilian Ocean. The tectonic transition from continental collision to post‐collisional delamination could be constrained to ∼430 Ma, which is provided by the sudden decrease of Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios and an increase in zircon εHf(t) values for granitoids. A two‐stage tectonic evolution model from continental collision to post‐collisional extensional collapse for the NQOB includes (a) continental collision and crustal thickening during ca. 455–430 Ma, characterized by granulite‐facies metamorphism and widespread low‐Mg adakitic magmatism; (b) post‐collisional delamination of thickened continental crust and extensional collapse of orogen during ca. 430–390 Ma, provided by coeval high‐Mg adakitic magmatism, A‐type granites and I‐type granitoids with low Sr‐Y ratios. Xiazhuang uranium ore field, located in the southern part of the Nanling Metallogenic Belt, is considered one of the largest granite‐related U regions in South China. In this paper, we contribute new apatite fission track data and thermal history modeling to constrain the exhumation history and evaluate preservation potential of the Xiazhuang Uranium ore field. Nine Triassic outcrop granite samples collected from different locations of Xiazhuang Uranium ore field yield AFT ages ranging from 43 to 24 Ma with similar mean confined fission track lengths ranging from 11.8 ± 2.0 to 12.9 ± 1.9 μm and Dpar values between 1.01 and 1.51 μm. The robustness time‐temperature reconstructions of samples from the hanging wall of Huangpi fault show that the Xiazhuang Uranium ore field experienced a time of monotonous and slow cooling starting from middle Paleocene to middle Miocene (∼60–10 Ma), followed by relatively rapid exhumation in the late Miocene (∼10–5 Ma) and nearly thermal stability in the Pliocene–Quaternary (∼5–0 Ma). The amount of exhumation after U mineralization since the Middle Paleogene was estimated as ∼4.3 ± 1.8 km according to the integrated thermal history model. Previous studies indicate that the ore‐forming ages of U deposits in the Xiazhuang ore field are mainly before Middle Paleocene and the mineralization depths are more than 4.4 ± 1.2 km. Early Paleozoic magmatism in the West Kunlun Orogenic Belt (WKOB) preserves important information about the tectonic evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. This paper reports whole-rock compositions, zircon and apatite U-Pb dating, and zircon Hf isotopes for the Qiaerlong Pluton (QEL) at the northwestern margin of WKOB, with the aim of elucidating the petrogenesis of the pluton and shedding insights into the subduction-collision process of this oceanic slab. The QEL is mainly composed of Ordovician quartz monzodiorite (479 ± 3 Ma), quartz monzonite (467–472 Ma), and syenogranite (463 ± 4 Ma), and is intruded by Middle Silurian peraluminous granite (429 ± 20 Ma) and diabase (421 ± 4 Ma). Zircon εHf(t) values reveal that quartz monzodiorites (+2.1 to +9.9) and quartz monzonites (+0.6 to +6.8) were derived from a mixed source of juvenile crust and older lower crust, and syenogranites (−5.6 to +4.5) and peraluminous granites (−2.9 to +2.0) were generated from a mixed source of lower crust and upper crust; diabases had zircon εHf(t) values ranging from −0.3 to +4.1, and contained 463 ± 5 Ma captured zircon and 1 048 ± 39 Ma inherited zircon, indicating they originated from enriched lithospheric mantle and were contaminated by crustal materials. The Ordovician granitoids are enriched in LILEs and light rare-earth elements, and depleted in HFSEs with negative Nb, Ta, P, and Ti anomalies, suggesting that they formed in a subduction environment. Middle Silurian peraluminous granites have the characteristics of leucogranites with high SiO2 contents (74.92 wt.%–75.88 wt.%) and distinctly negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.03–0.14), indicating that they belong to highly fractionated granite and were formed in a post-collision extension setting. Comparative analysis of these results with other Early Paleozoic magmas reveals that the Proto-Tethys ocean closed before the Middle Silurian and its southward subduction resulted in the formation of QEL. The Weining Beishan area of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located at on the western edge of the Helanshan tectonic belt, which is a tectonic joint among Alxa Block, Ordos Block, and North Qilian orogenic belt. However, the tectonic evolution of this area remains unclear due to the lack of magmatic information. This paper conducted researches on geochronology, geochemistry, and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes of the diorite porphyrites exposed in the Weining Beishan area. The zircon U-Pb dating yields two ages of 145.0 ± 1.1 and 146.2 ± 1.5 Ma, and the whole-rock geochemical data indicate that the diorite porphyrites are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous and high-K calc-alkaline series. The characteristics of highly initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.708 16 to 0.710 47), negative εNd(t) (−8.9 to −8.4), and negative εHf(t) (−13.8 to −21.2) indicate that the diorite porphyrites originated from partial melting of the middle-lower ancient crust related to the North China Craton. Combined with the regional geology, we suggested that partial melting was triggered by a tectonic activity of deep faults cutting through the crust under the regional stress transformation from compressing to extension during the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous, which is probably related to the westward subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate. Arc-arc amalgamation occurs during the evolution of composite orogens at convergent plate margins and plays a critical role in controlling accretionary patterns and processes. The eastern Junggar terrane in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt underwent a long-lived subduction-accretion process in the Paleozoic, but whether and how the Yemaquan and Dananhu-Harlik arcs were amalgamated remain debatable. A systematic U-Pb-Hf-O isotopic study was conducted on zircons from Silurian granitic rocks in the Yemaquan arc. The U-Pb dating results suggest that these rocks were emplaced at 433-422 Ma and inherited abundant 536-435 Ma zircons representing a predominant magmatic episode in the Yemaquan arc. Their positive εHf(t) values and young Hf model ages indicate that the Yemaquan arc is dominated by juvenile basement with significant crustal growth during the Neoproterozoic to early Paleozoic. The variations in zircon Eu/Eu*, εHf(t), and δ18O values reveal that the Yemaquan arc experienced remarkable crustal thickening and remobilization at ca. 450 Ma, similar to the northern Dananhu-Harlik arc, and this was followed by extension that initiated at ca. 420 Ma. These features support the amalgamation of these two arcs occurring ca. 450-420 Ma. Integrated with regional data, we correlated this amalgamation event in the eastern Junggar terrane with the orogenic event in the Chinese Altai terrane, and we propose a middle Paleozoic tectonic evolution model in the eastern Junggar-Altai area from arc assembly to dispersal in association with a transition in accretionary mode. During the Late Palaeozoic to Early Mesozoic, the eastern segment of the Palaeo–Tethys Ocean closed, resulting in the collision and amalgamation of the South and North Hainan Islands. However, the exact location of the collision and amalgamation remains controversial. The main collision locations are the Baisha, Jiusuo–Lingshui and Changjiang–Qionghai faults. The U–Pb age of detrital zircons was used to determine the main source area of the Middle Triassic basin in the eastern part of Hainan Island and the closed position of the eastern section of the Palaeo‐Tethys Ocean. The U–Pb dating of detrital zircons revealed that the Middle Triassic Lingwen Formation contains four age groups: 235–258, 335–446, 766–986 and >1000 Ma. Notably, rock masses aged 248–252 Ma that were formed in a post‐orogenic tension setting have been identified in the western region of Hainan Island, whereas no igneous rocks from this period have been discovered in the eastern region. The detrital zircon samples from the Lingwen Formation revealed a peak at 249 ± 2 Ma U–Pb age, which is important evidence indicating that the Changjiang–Qionghai Fault is the product of collision between the southern and northern Hainan terranes. Affected by the bipolar subduction of the eastern segment of the Palaeo‐Tethys Ocean, the collision and amalgamation of the South and North Hainan terranes occurred, and experienced a post‐collision (extensional) process at ca. 249 ± 2 Ma. The Bengal Basin is a well‐known foreland basin that archives the tectonic evolution of the Himalayan and Indo‐Burman Ranges (IBR). The Dupi Tila Formation is the youngest among the stratigraphic successions of the Bengal Basin, which witnessed the last phase of the Himalayan uplift. However, there is still controversy regarding sediment provenances since the Himalayan and IBR are in the late Neogene exhumation stage. In this study, the petrographical and geochemical compositions of the Dupi Tila sandstones from the Lalmai Anticline of the Bengal Basin are examined to infer the source rocks, tectonic settings, palaeoclimate and weathering intensity in provenance areas. The detrital modes and geochemical discriminations, as well as Chondrite‐normalized rare earth elements patterns with enrichment in light rare earth elements and nearly flat heavy rare earth elements and negative Eu anomalies (average Eu/Eu* = 0.77) indicate dominantly felsic source rocks. The geochemical data also suggest that these source rocks in provenance areas were influenced by weak to moderate chemical weathering (chemical index of alteration: 65.64–75.62) and multiple recycling under warm and humid to semi‐humid climatic conditions. The detrital zircon ages show three dominant peaks at ca. 100, 500 and 1000 Ma with minor 1700 Ma. The amount of young zircon grains (<120 Ma) is noticeably higher (~18%) in this Lalmai outcrop compared to the Dupi Tila samples from the Sylhet Trough and Chittagong‐Tripura Fold Belt. Results from integrated zircon geochronology and geochemistry indicate that the detritus are likely derived from a recycled orogen provenance related mainly to active continental margin setting with subordinate influence from passive setting. Therefore, the regionally extensive Himalayan Orogen appears to be the primary sediment source, with additional mixing from the IBR and recycled sediments originating from the Gangdese batholith of the Trans‐Himalaya. The spatiotemporal coupling relationship between deep hydrocarbon fluid and sandstone uranium mineralization within the shallow buried red‐variegated clastic rocks in the Qianjiadian area of the Songliao Basin remains a topic of controversy. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the source, nature and exudative age of deep exotic hydrocarbon, as well as the interaction mechanism and alteration process between hydrocarbon fluid and clastic rock. To achieve this, various methods were employed, including acidolysis hydrocarbon test (AHT), clay x‐ray diffraction (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), carbon isotope analysis (CIA) and LA‐ICP‐MS U–Pb isotopic dating. The results indicate that some tight sandstones from the Qingshankou Formation in Dalin uranium deposit exhibit high acidolysis hydrocarbon content (AHC), reaching n × 104 μL/kg, and predominantly consisting of low mature oil‐type gas. Local microscopic observations reveal pore fluorescence and hydrocarbon‐bearing inclusions with nattier blue tone. Furthermore, the kaolinites present in the ore area's sand‐bodies show a significantly higher content anomaly, commonly exceeding >50%, compared to the same layer in peripheral regions. Extensive dissolutions of lithic grains and feldspars are observed, along with the widespread occurrence of ferro‐dolomites and colloidal pyrites. Additionally, exotic asphaltenes are sporadically developed in localized areas. These findings provide evidence that the sand‐bodies experienced a significant exfiltration event of external gaseous fluids. The light carbon isotopes (δ13CV‐PDB ranging from −33.26‰ to −30.06‰) of group components and n‐Alkane suggest that the hydrocarbon originates from the source rock of the Lower Cretaceous Jiufotang Formation. A detailed two‐stage alteration sequence caused by acidic and reducing hydrocarbon is clarified, encompassing acidic corrosion, kaolinization, pyritization, silification and asphaltization during the exudation stage, followed by ferro‐dolomitization in the later cessation stage. Notably, vermicular secondary kaolinites, formed through the interaction between acidic hydrocarbon fluid and low‐temperature meteoric groundwater, serve as significant markers for the exfiltration of deep hydrocarbon fluid. In‐situ U–Pb dating of hydrocarbon‐bearing ferro‐dolomite yielded absolute exfiltration ages of 63.54 ± 4.13 and 65.93 ± 3.35 Ma. By integrating the tectonic–sedimentary–fluid evolution history and uranium mineralization characteristics in the study area, a three‐stage superimposed metallogenic model is proposed for the Upper Cretaceous red‐variegated layers: (1) the sedimentary and diagenetic stage of the target layer during the Late Cretaceous, (2) the predominant hydrocarbon exudation stage at the end of the Late Cretaceous, and (3) the main uranium mineralization stage since the Paleogene. This study enhances our understanding of coupled‐genetic sandstone‐type uranium deposit in a sedimentary basin and provides valuable guidance for prospecting similar red‐variegated beds in the Songliao Basin and other sedimentary basins worldwide. The thermoelastic properties and thermal expansion of natural single-crystal zircon without detectable radiation damage were determined in the temperature range between 100 and 1650 K on five samples from Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Up to about 1500 K, the results are in excellent agreement and fully reversible. The average adiabatic elastic stiffness coefficients at room temperature in GPa are c11 = 426.8(6), c12 = 68.1(4), c13 = 152.0(4), c33 = 490.8(9), c44 = 113.1(2), and c66 = 49.0(1). Polycrystalline averaging for the aggregate bulk and shear modulus (Voigt-Reuss-Hill average) yields K = 229.3(4) GPa and G = 109.3(1) GPa. From 293 to 1573 K, the elastic stiffnesses soften almost linearly with the temperature coefficients in MPa/K: dc11/dT = –45.36(7), dc12/dT = –2.03(7), dc13/dT= –9.59(7), dc33/dT = –42.85(12), dc44/dT = –9.60(3), and dc66/dT = –2.19(1). Below room temperature, the behavior of the cij is nonlinear, with decreasing absolute values of the temperature coefficients. Above about 1500 K, a temperature- and time-dependent irreversible elastic stiffening accompanied by an increasing ultrasound dissipation was observed in all samples. Stratigraphy of Campanian deposits in the stratotype of the Kudrinskaya Formation in the Southwestern Crimea is revised. For the first time, integrated sedimentological, biostratigraphic (ichnofossils, cephalopods, inoceramids, foraminifers, dinocysts, nannoplankton, gilianelles), isotope-geochemical, paleo- and petromagnetic characteristics of the section were obtained. The boundary of the lower and upper Campanian is substantiated and confirmed by U–Pb dating of zircons from the well-known bentonite (kil) clay bed in the interval of 77–80 Ma. It is proposed to accept the Campanian Substage boundary of the General Stratigraphic Chart (for bipartite stage subdivision) at the top of the Chron C33r, located near the δ13C isotopic excursion "MCaE" – Mid-Campanian Event, near the first occurrence of the benthic foraminifer Brotzenella monterelensis and a number of other traditional biomarkers. The ultrahigh‐pressure (UHP) eclogites from the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan, which formed by the deep subduction of the Indian plate beneath the Asian plate in the Eocene, contain complex metamorphic vein systems (including both isolated veins and vein networks), with mineral assemblages of epidote + quartz + kyanite + phengite ± omphacite ± garnet. The investigations on the Kaghan UHP eclogite‐vein systems provide important insights into the mechanism and timing of metamorphic dehydration, fluid flow, and fluid–rock interaction in the deeply subducted Indian continental slab as well as the chemical characteristics of slab‐derived, aqueous fluids. Abundant lawsonite pseudomorphs, characterized by prismatic aggregates of epidote, kyanite, and quartz porphyroblasts, are first recognized in the Kaghan eclogites. This observation, in combination with the occurrence of coesite pseudomorphs in epidote porphyroblasts as well as the coexistence of epidote and coesite in the eclogite zircon, indicates the previous existence of UHP lawsonite in these eclogites. Petrological studies and phase equilibrium modelling reveal clockwise P–T trajectories for the Kaghan eclogites that are featured by prograde vectors in lawsonite‐stability regions with peak conditions of 3.0–3.4 GPa/650–690°C, followed by isothermal decompression and lawsonite breakdown under UHP conditions during the initial exhumation stage. The results of metamorphic evolution, together with in situ epidote and bulk Sr isotopic analyses, indicate that the fluids responsible for vein systems are most likely derived from the breakdown of UHP lawsonite in the eclogites. SIMS U–Pb dating of metamorphic zircons from the eclogites, integrated with the Raman analysis of inclusions in zircons, indicates that the UHP dehydration of eclogites occurred at 46.4 ± 1.2 and 46.8 ± 0.9 Ma. Analyses of hydrothermal zircons from the veins yielded slightly younger ages of 44.7 ± 1.0 and 44.9 ± 1.4 Ma, which represent the timing of fluid flow and/or vein crystallization during exhumation of the UHP rocks. Mass‐balance calculation results, in combination with the vein compositions, show that the fluid flow and fluid‐eclogite interaction led to the transfer of Si, Al, Ca, K, and incompatible trace elements from the eclogites into the fluids, from which the vein systems crystallized. This study indicates cold deep subduction of Indian continental crust along low geothermal gradients (6–7°C/km). The UHP fluid liberation and channelized fluid flow occurred during the initial exhumation of the cold Indian slab and are expected to induce the transfer of H2O and incompatible trace elements from the Indian slab to the Asian lithosphere, which potentially contributes to the formation of post‐collisional magmas. Moreover, we suggest that metamorphic vein systems in UHP lawsonite eclogites offer important constraints on the occurrence and timing of fast slab exhumation in continental subduction‐collision zones. Unraveling the Paleo-Kuril Arc's origins is key to understanding northwest Pacific tectonics. The Paleo-Kuril Arc is viewed as an intraoceanic arc from trench subduction between the Izanagi and Pacific Plates. Alternatively, several studies suggest the Paleo-Kuril Arc as a continental magmatic arc, hypothesizing the existence of a mid-oceanic ridge and Paleogene subduction, placing the Paleo-Kuril Arc near the Okhotsk Block's southern edge. This study clarifies these hypotheses, previously clouded by limited geochronological data on deposits in the Paleo-Kuril Arc. We conducted U–Pb dating to examine the origins of detrital zircons from the Cretaceous–Paleogene Tokoro and Nemuro Belts of the Paleo-Kuril Arc. Cluster analysis, merging new and existing data, identified two unique detrital zircon age clusters. The abundance of Precambrian zircons in Cretaceous–Paleocene Paleo-Kuril Arc sandstones (Type 1 Cluster) suggests a continental magmatic origin, supporting the ridge subduction model. However, an early Eocene shift to a consistent local volcanic source (Type 2 Cluster) highlights a significant provenance change. This geochronological evidence, indicating a separation from continental sources, calls for further research to decode the simultaneous development of sediment sources in different geological belts, potentially tied to the ridge subduction event. The widespread occurrence of Carboniferous Wuluate Formation volcanic rocks in the West Kunlun is closely related to the evolution of the Paleo-Tethys but has received little attention. In this study, we conducted detailed fieldwork on the Wuluate Formation in West Kunlun and performed zircon U‒Pb dating, whole-rock major and trace element analysis, whole-rock Sr-Nd isotope analysis, and in situ zircon Hf isotope analyses. The Wuluate Formation is characterized by a bimodal volcanic suite. Zircon U‒Pb dating indicates that the rhyolites erupted at ca. 348–353 Ma, which is coeval with the zircon U‒Pb dating result of 354 Ma for the basalt. The basalts show a tholeiitic magmatic evolution trend with flattened REE patterns and depleted whole-rock Sr-Nd and zircon Hf isotopes, indicating geochemical affinity to back-arc basin basalt (BABB). Trace element modelling results indicate that the primitive basaltic compositions fit well with the products of the DMM + sediments + H2O source under melting conditions of asthenospheric temperature and thin lithosphere thickness, and the REE modelling results show that the basalts underwent 40% to 95% crystallographic differentiation of olivine, monazite, hornblende, plagioclase, and magnetite. The silicic rocks are calcic to calcic-alkaline and meta/peraluminous. They exhibit flattened REE patterns and slightly enriched zircon Hf isotopes, which could originate from Precambrian metaigneous sources of West Kunlun. The Kungai bimodal suite is likely to have formed in a back-arc setting corresponding to the northward subduction of Paleo-Tethys. Two small exposures of quartz-porphyritic rocks occur on the farm Zoutpekel 98 in the Marydale Terrane between the Doornberg Fault and Brakbos Shear Zone, apparently overlying Kaapvaal basement granite but lacking clear field relationships due to sand and Dwyka tillite cover. They are lavas and tuffs, metamorphosed in lower amphibolite facies. They contain quartz phenocrysts with a distinctive blue colour, due to metamorphic exsolution of rutile. Microbeam U-Pb zircon dating gives a combined 207Pb/206Pb age of 2 722 ± 3 Ma (seven determinations on four samples), interpreted as the age of extrusion. Three of these samples give the same discordia upper intercept age, but one sample gives discordia intercepts of 2 688 ± 15 and 1 223 ± 120 Ma, thought to reflect metamorphic lead loss related to the ~1 210 Ma Namaqua terrane assembly collisions. The Zoutpekel exposures are coeval with the 2 720 ± 2 Ma Makwassie Formation of the Platberg Group, Ventersdorp Supergroup. They also correspond geochemically to the Makwassie Formation and no other unit of the supergroup. A sample from the T'kuip Formation of the nearest Ventersdorp Supergroup inlier on the Kaapvaal Craton (east of the Doornberg Fault), gives an age of 2 716 ± 8 Ma, also confirming its lithostratigraphic and geochemical correlation with the Makwassie Formation. The Zoutpekel exposures show that not only the Kaapvaal basement granites, but also the supracrustal cover rocks of the Ventersdorp Supergroup, extend southwards across the Doornberg Fault, The Marydale Terrane is thus not an exotic terrane, but probably represents a passive continental margin developed at the beginning of the 1 300 to 1 000 Ma Namaqua-Natal Wilson cycle. The age range of the Ventersdorp Supergroup and the age and stratigraphic correlation of the Marydale Group thrust complex, which straddles the Zoutpekel exposures, will be investigated in two companion papers. We report U-Pb age determinations of carbonate nodules from an in situ paleosol horizon in the Upper Permian Balfour Formation and from several horizons of pedogenic nodule conglomerate (PNC) in the Triassic Katberg Formation, Karoo Basin, South Africa, using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LAICP-MS). The paleosol sample yields an age of 252 ± 3 Ma, which overlaps with a previous high-precision U-Pb zircon date from a volcanic ash deposit 2 m above the paleosol. This relationship demonstrates the reliability of using LA-ICP-MS dating techniques on terrestrial pedogenic calcite. Two PNC samples collected at the base of the Katberg Formation within the same sandstone unit yield ages of 255 ± 3 Ma and 251 ± 3 Ma. The age of 251 ± 3 Ma overlaps with the high-precision U-Pb zircon date below the PNC and is a maximum age estimate of deposition for the base of the Katberg Formation. Our results show that reworked nodules in the same concentrated conglomerate lag can be of different ages, but that similarly aged nodules are spatially associated. In addition, two PNC samples collected higher in the section yield ages of 249 ± 3 Ma and 241 ± 3 Ma, providing maximum depositional ages for the lower to middle Katberg Formation for the first time. We demonstrate that pedogenic carbonate nodules can be dated with meaningful precision, providing another mechanism for constraining the age of sedimentary sequences and studying events associated with the Permian-Triassic transition in the central Karoo Basin, even though the extinction boundary may not be preserved in this area. The Lancang metamorphic complex is a key component of the Three River Tethys Orogen in the SE Tibetan Plateau, with typical rock assemblages and deformation fabrics recording the subduction of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean and subsequent continental collision. In this study, we present new petrographic and structural observations, together with zircon U-Pb and mica 40Ar/39Ar geochronologic data, to reveal the deformation and kinematics of the Lancang metamorphic complex, thus providing insights into the Permian-Triassic evolution of the eastern Paleo-Tethys domain. The subduction of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean and subsequent collision resulted in a range of structural features, including penetrative regional foliations, thrusts, asymmetric folds at various scales, and ductile deformation fabrics such as asymmetric boudins and porphyroclasts. Zircon U-Pb dating of foliated gabbro and 40Ar/39Ar dating of mica schist and mylonite, which preserve shortening fabrics, suggest that the Paleo-Tethys Ocean was subducted during the Late Carboniferous to Permian-Early Triassic, and the collision of the Baoshan and Simao blocks mainly occurred during ca. 237-230 Ma in the SE Tibetan Plateau. Regional deformation likely shifted from shortening to extension ca. 230 Ma, as reflected by post-collision high-K calc-alkaline magmatism. The Wunugetu deposit, a large-scale porphyry copper–molybdenum deposit, is located in the southern Erguna block. Its ore bodies are primarily found within monzogranites, granite porphyries, and biotite monzogranites. Additionally, the deposit contains late-stage intrusive dykes of rhyolitic porphyries. This study examined the deposit's monzogranites and rhyolitic porphyries using lithogeochemistry, zircon U-Pb dating, and Hf isotopic analysis. The main findings include: (1) Zircon U-Pb dating showed that the monzogranites formed around 209.0 ± 1.0 Ma, whereas the rhyolitic porphyries in the northern portion formed around 170.49 ± 0.81 Ma, suggesting magmatic activity in the deposit spanned from the Late Triassic to the Middle Jurassic. (2) The monzogranites exhibited high silicon content (73.16–80.47 wt.%) and relatively low aluminum content (10.98–14.37 wt.%). They are enriched in alkalis (content: 3.42–10.10 wt.%) and deficient in magnesium and sodium, with aluminum saturation indices (A/CNK) ranging from 1.1 to 2.9. In addition, the monzogranites are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs) such as Rb, K, and Ba and deficient in high-field-strength elements (HFSEs) like Nb, P, and Ti. (3) The monzogranites have low Zr + Nb + Ce + Y contents of (151.3–298.6 ppm) × 10−6 and 10,000 × Ga/Al ratios varying between 1.20 and 2.33, suggesting that they are characteristic of I-type granites. (4) Positive zircon εHf(t) values ranging from +0.3 to +7.6 in both rhyolitic porphyry and monzogranite samples, increasing with younger emplacement ages, imply that the deposit's rocks originated from magmatic mixing between mantle-derived mafic magmas and remelts of the juvenile crust. Considering these results and the regional geological evolution, this study proposes that the Wunugetu deposit was formed in an active continental margin setting and was influenced by the Late Triassic–Middle Jurassic southeastward subduction of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean. It has been accepted that granitoids of the Irizar unit in the Central Victoria Land (Antarctica), as an important part of the Granite Harbour Intrusives, were formed in a post-collisional setting during the Ross orogeny along the margin of east Gondwana. However, the emplacement ages of the Irizar unit remain poorly constrained, making it difficult to form a more complete picture of the geodynamic evolution of the Ross orogen and its counterpart (Delamerian orogen) in southeast Australia. In this work, four syenogranite samples from the Irizar unit were chosen for SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating, which yielded ages of 507.8–489.7 Ma. The new geochronological data indicate that the post-collisional extension in the Central Victoria Land had begun by ~508 Ma, much earlier than previously thought (i.e., 490–480 Ma). Integrated with U-Pb ages for Early Paleozoic granitoids from the literature, the Ross–Delamerian orogen shows that the post-collisional granitic magmatism initiated at ~515 Ma in the Central Transantarctic Mountains and northward systematically decreased to ~508 Ma in the Victoria Land, and then to ~487 Ma in southeast Australia. The intensive variables, geochemical, mineralogical, and petrogenetic constraints of the Iberian peraluminous rare metal granites (RMGs), many of them unknown, are presented. The mineral chemistry of ore and gangue minerals, whole rock analyses, geothermobarometry, melt water and phosphorus contents, mass balance, and Rayleigh modeling were performed to achieve these objectives. These procedures allow us to distinguish two main contrasting granitic types: Nb-Ta-rich and Nb-Ta-poor granites. The former have lower crystallization temperatures, higher water contents, and lower emplacement pressures than Nb-Ta-poor granites. Nb-Ta-rich granites also have higher fluoride contents, strong fractionation into geochemical twins, higher Na contents, and different evolutionary trends. At the deposit scale, the fractional crystallization of micas properly explains the variation in the Ta/Nb ratio in both Nb-Ta-poor and Nb-Ta-rich RMGs, although in higher-grade granites, the variation is not as clear due to the action of fluids. Fluid phase separation processes especially occurred in the Nb-Ta rich granites, thus transporting halogens and metals that increased the grades in the top and sometimes in the core of granites. Gas-driven filter pressing processes facilitated the migration of fluid and melt near solidus melt in Nb-Ta-rich granites. The geochemical signature of the Iberian rare metal granites mainly follows the trends of two-mica granites and P-rich cordierite granites, but also of granodiorites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Bilong Co oil shale is one of the most significant source rocks in the Mesozoic Qiangtang Basin (Northern Tibet); however, its absolute chronology remains controversial. In this study, in situ carbonate U–Pb isotope dating analysis was carried out for the first time. Detailed field geological investigations yielded some age-diagnostic ammonites, enabling a re-evaluation of the stratigraphic age of the Bilong Co oil shale. A total of 61 spots of U–Pb isotope dating from the middle part of the Bilong Co oil shale section suggests an average age of 181 ± 13 Ma. Elemental geochemistry and diagenetic analysis indicate that the proposed age represents the early deposition of the calcite, and the oil shale was deposited during the Early Jurassic time. This estimated age is further supported by the newly discovered ammonite assemblage of Hildoceratidae–Tiltoniceras sp. at the top part of the oil shale section, which confirms the deposition of the oil shale during the Toarcian age of the late Early Jurassic. Consequently, the Bilong Co oil shale can be assigned to the Quse Formation, which is attributed to the Lower Jurassic rather than the Middle Jurassic. The re-assessment of the stratigraphic age of the Bilong Co oil shale is of great significance for regional evaluation and exploration activities of hydrocarbon source rock layers in the Qiangtang Basin as well as for global stratigraphic correlation of the late Early Jurassic Toarcian oceanic anoxic event. Phlogopite and K‐richterite constitute important carrier phases for H and F in Earth's lithosphere and mantle. The relative importance depends on their stabilities at high pressure and temperature, which in turn depends on bulk composition. Most previous experimental studies focused on the thermal stability of phlogopite and K‐richterite were conducted using simplified chemical compositions. Here, partial melting experiments on metasomatized and carbonated, OH ± F‐bearing near‐natural peridotite were performed at high pressures (2 and 5 GPa) and temperatures (1,100–1,350°C) to assess the thermal stability of F‐free versus F‐bearing phlogopite and K‐richterite. Experimental results demonstrate that the thermal stability of F‐bearing phlogopite is increased by >55°C/wt.% F, relative to F‐free phlogopite, whereas K‐richterite is absent in all experiments with significant degrees of melting (>2%). The thermal stability of phlogopite containing several wt.% F exceeds continental and oceanic geotherms within the upper 150 km. Fluorine‐rich phlogopite would therefore be stable in virtually all of the continental lithosphere, only to be decomposed during large, regional melting events such as continental break‐up, thereby acting as a major long‐term sink for F and/or H. This could even be the case for the oceanic asthenosphere, depending on the oceanic geotherm of the area of interest. Plain Language Summary: Phlogopite and K‐richterite are important minerals for the fluorine and hydrogen cycles of the Earth's interior. The effects of fluorine on the thermal stability of phlogopite and K‐richterite was studied using a suite of high pressure, high temperature experiments, mimicking partial melting in Earth's upper mantle and lower crust. The experimental results show that F dramatically enhances the stability of phlogopite, implying phlogopite can retain F and H up to greater depths in the Earth than previously assumed. Fluorine does not significantly affect the thermal stability of K‐richterite. Given that F is more compatible in phlogopite compared to H, our results show that phlogopite becomes increasingly more stable through time as F is preferentially incorporated over OH during fluid alteration at high temperatures. Fluorine‐rich phlogopite may only be decomposed during large, regional melting events, such as continental break‐up, thereby acting as a long‐term carrier of F and to a lesser extent OH in the Earth's lower crust and/or upper mantle. Complex zoning in crystals including repeated resorption and overgrowth is characteristic for arc magmas and occurs in response to closed-system changes in magmatic P–T– f O2 conditions and open system processes such as magma mixing and degassing or regassing. However, over which time frame do such changes occur? Do zoning patterns record changes occurring during the polybaric ascent of magmas that carry crystals or glomerocrysts sourced from variably mushy magma reservoirs, or alternatively indicate the uptake of antecrysts that experienced long periods of cold storage in plutonic precursors? A priori , these scenarios are endmember models, with the former transcrustal magmatic systems, where the crystals record changing conditions during magma ascent or changing interstitial melt compositions, traditionally preferred over the latter, which we here term transcrustal plutonic systems. In subsolidus plutonic systems, aphyric parental melts would acquire their entirely antecrystic crystal cargo during ascent from plutonic protoliths, and only crystal rims may be related to the host magma. We discuss the evidence for dominantly plutonic antecrystic cargo in some continental arc magmas, identified by considering mineral phase proportions, hydration of crystal rims that indicate hydrothermally altered cargo picked up by fresh melts, and uranium isotope disequilibria between crystals and matrix. We then turn to two-pyroxene thermobarometry and review the evidence for plutonic antecryst dominance revealed by this method in southwest Japan and the southern Taupo Volcanic Zone. We provide additional two-pyroxene data from the Andes, the Cascades, and the Tatun Volcano Group in northern Taiwan, corroborating that the uptake of crystals by aphyric to scarcely phyric melts is prevalent in continental arc magmatic systems. Thus, in many cases transcrustal plutonic systems seem to dominate, implying that a significant proportion of parental melts of continental arc magmas are variably enriched in silica, too hot to carry crystals, and typically too hot and not hydrous enough to be generated by differentiation in frequently postulated lower crustal hot zones, as we will demonstrate here. Our data indicate that in continental subduction zones, the mantle wedge is the source of a diversity of melt compositions (low- to high-silica), irrespective of the age and temperature of the subducting slab. Before discussing some of the implications of the prevalence of non-canonical transcrustal plutonic systems for the thermal structure of the crust, magma ascent processes, volcano monitoring, economic geology, as well as the evolution of continental crustal growth and recycling through deep time, we critically evaluate this novel perspective in terms of published data that might favour more traditional supersolidus transcrustal magmatic systems. This contribution provides the community with the opportunity to consider significantly colder crustal environments than typically accepted, and outlines avenues of future research. Azizi, H., Daneshvar, N., Asahara, Y., Minami, M. & Anma, R. (2023). The generation of Eocene mafic dike swarms during the exhumation of a Core complex, Biarjmand area, NE Iran. Journal of Petrology 64 , 1–18 have attributed the E–W-oriented mafic dike swarm in the Biarjmand metamorphic core complex to an Eocene extensional event which is much younger than a previously suggested Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous age. They proposed that the emplacement of these dikes occurred in a rapid extensional regime coeval with the exhumation of the core complex after gravitational instability in the Central Iran/Eurasia collision zone. I appreciate the opportunity this article provides to shed light on specific aspects of the Late Mesozoic–Early Cenozoic continental extension within the Eurasian sector of the Neotethys subduction system. However, I here bring to attention certain discrepancies within Azizi et al. 's publication. Specifically, the assignment of an Eocene age to the emplacement of the E–W-oriented dike swarm, even though purportedly supported by U–Pb zircon dating, appears to be at odds with field observations and previously published geochronological data. Furthermore, the article contains internal contradictions in its presentation of the core complex model for the study area. It is important to note that Malekpour-Alamdari, A., Axen, G. J., Heizler, M. T. & Hassanzadeh, J. (2017). Large-magnitude continental extension in the northeastern Iranian plateau: insight from K-feldspar 40Ar/39Ar thermochronology from the Shotor Kuh-Biarjmand metamorphic core complex. Geosphere 13 , 1207–1233 previously documented the geochronological-based metamorphic core complex model of the area. Regrettably, despite its direct relevance, these earlier works have not been acknowledged in Azizi et al. 's paper. In this comment, I outline the problems with the structural and regional geology, the zircon U–Pb age of the dike samples, the age of the dike swarm, and the geodynamic interpretations in Azizi et al. The Sanjiang Tethyan Orogen plays a pivotal role in elucidating the geodynamic processes related to the evolution of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. Research on the Gicha Complex within this orogen is imperative for comprehending the intricate evolution of the region. This study presents new findings from zircon U‒Pb dating, Hf isotope analysis, and whole-rock elemental analyses of gabbro, olivine gabbro, and the recently discovered mylonitic rhyolite and diabase in the Gicha Complex. The zircon U‒Pb dating yields ages of 703 ± 3 Ma for the diabase, 296 ± 2 Ma for the gabbro, and 231 ± 1 and 228 ± 2 Ma for the mylonitic rhyolite, demonstrating that these rocks record the extended evolution from the breakup of Rodinia to the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. The Neoproterozoic diabase samples exhibit shoshonitic and arc-like geochemical properties, with positive zircon εHf(t) values ranging from 1.1 to 3.7 and high Th/Yb values ranging from 1.34 to 3.07, suggesting that they were generated by partial melting of enriched subduction-modified lithospheric mantle in an active continental margin. The early Permian gabbro samples are part of the tholeiitic series and exhibit low SiO2 and K2O contents; depletions in Nb, Ta and Ti; and enrichment in Pb, indicating derivation from a combination of depleted mantle peridotite and subduction-related components. The whole-rock geochemical features suggest that these rocks formed in a back-arc setting featuring a small, mature ocean basin. The mylonitic rhyolite samples exhibit weakly peraluminous characteristics (A/CNK = 0.98–1.12) with high-K calc-alkaline geochemical features. The samples are depleted in Ba, Nb, Ta, and Ti and enriched in Th, U, Pb, and LREEs and exhibit negative to positive zircon εHf(t) values ranging from − 0.5 to + 5.9, indicating that they originated from partial melting of Meso-Neoproterozoic juvenile lower crust. Geochronological, petrological, and geochemical analyses indicate that the subduction of oceanic crust occurred along the western margin of the Yangtze Block until the late Neoproterozoic (~ 703 Ma). The difference in radiation damage retained in unknown and reference zircons, caused by the α-dose matrix effect, has been considered as a great influence on the accuracy and precision of zircon U–Pb dating as found from LA-ICP-MS and SIMS analysis. This study aims to explore the effect of high-temperature thermal annealing (>1300 °C) on the optimization of the U–Pb dating of standard zircons, such as Sri Lanka, Plešovice, and Qinghu zircons, with heterogeneous radiation damage. Raman spectroscopy was employed to investigate the structural state of Sri Lanka zircons that were annealed at 100 °C to 1300 °C at various times (isochronal and isothermal annealing), indicating that annealing at 1400 °C for 96 h can result in a nearly complete crystalline state for zircons with a low-moderate degree of radiation damage. SIMS U–Pb isotopic analyses of unannealed and annealed Sri Lanka zircon grains revealed that the homogeneity of sample SL-3 annealed at 1300 °C with a 206Pb/238U age of 572.4 ± 4.4 Ma (2σ, MSWD = 0.08) is greater than those of the sample SL-2 annealed at 850 °C with 206Pb/238U age of 575.0 ± 4.5 Ma (2σ, MSWD = 0.57) and sample SL-1 unannealed with 206Pb/238U age of 575.3 ± 4.3 Ma (2σ, MSWD = 0.30). Furthermore, the results of LA-ICP-MS U–Pb ages and trace element concentrations for Plešovice and Qinghu zircons indicate that high-temperature thermal annealing can reduce the distribution of trace element composition and the scatters of the 206Pb/238U ages with MSWD decreasing by 82% and 71%, respectively, despite the annealed zircons yielding slightly younger 206Pb/238U ages than unannealed zircons. This approach provides new insights into acquiring homogeneous U–Pb ages of standard zircons with heterogeneous radiation damage, which would be useful to calibrate and obtain unknown zircon U–Pb dating with better precision and accuracy. Zircon U–Pb dating by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) is a widely used analytical method in the field of geology. However, the U–Pb dating of zircons with complex interior structures has always been a challenge in laser in situ analysis. To address this issue, we introduce a novel method, termed reverse depth profiling, for LA-ICPMS U–Pb dating of such zircons. This method combines the traditional LA-ICPMS method with depth profiling, analyzing the over-polished zircon from core to rim. We applied this method to zircons from the Himalayan leucogranites in Dinggye and garnet-bearing granitic gneiss in Yadong. The method allows the successful dating of zircon rims as narrow as only 0.6 μm. Characterized by high sample analysis efficiency, superior vertical spatial resolution, and optimal data utilization, this method enhances the success rate of U–Pb dating of structurally complex zircons. Valid geochronological information on the inherited cores and magmatic/metamorphic rims of zircons can be obtained by this method, which has great potential for unraveling complex magmatic and metamorphic events in tectonically active regions in geological history. Late Triassic–Jurassic orogenic and Early Cretaceous epithermal Au deposits are significant producers of Au, Ag, and potentially critical elements (e.g., Te, Se and Sb) in the North Heilongjiang Belt in the Xing'an Block, NE China. However, the preservation mechanism of these Au deposits associated with tectonic evolution is unclear. Here, we conducted zircon U–Pb, sericite Ar–Ar, zircon and apatite (U–Th)/He dating as well as whole‐rock geochemistry in the Xing'an Block. Zircon U–Pb dating shows the ages of 174.1 ± 2.4 Ma for the granodiorite, 169.9 ± 1.6 Ma for the tonalite, 154.0 ± 2.0 Ma for the monzogranite and ca.122 Ma for the diorite. Sericite Ar–Ar dating presents plateau and isochron ages of 163.2 ± 1.8 Ma and 163.4 ± 2.8 Ma. The average apatite (U–Th)/He (AHe) and zircon (U–Th)/He (ZHe) ages from the Jurassic rocks have the ranges of ca. 146–89 Ma and ca. 150–116 Ma and from the Cretaceous are ca. 109–76 Ma and ca. 117–111 Ma, respectively. The Early‐Middle Jurassic intrusions are featured by the tonalite‐trondhjemite‐granodiorite (TTG) rock type. Late Jurassic monzogranite has the geochemical signature of adakitic rocks. The Early Cretaceous granitoids are classified as volcanic arc granites with a part of the Early Cretaceous granodiorite featured by adakitic. These new results reveal five group ages associated with tectonic evolution, Au mineralization and the preservation of the Au deposits. (i) Magmatic events were related to the subduction of the Mongolia‐Okhotsk Ocean during the Early Jurassic (ca. 177–170 Ma) and then the compressional settings with regional deformation (ca. 167–163 Ma). (ii) Thickening crust and orogenic Au mineralization were related to the closure of the Mongolia‐Okhotsk Ocean (ca. 154–145 Ma). (iii) The transformation was from compressional to extensional settings followed by exhumation during the Early Cretaceous (ca. 145–120 Ma), which is the factor of the exhumation of the orogenic Au deposits formed from the Late Triassic to Late Jurassic. (iv) Epithermal Au–Ag mineralization was associated with an extension related to the subduction of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate (ca. 120–100 Ma). Direct dating of vertebrate fossils is difficult due to complex postburial diagenetic processes and the often low and heterogeneous concentration of radioisotopes (e.g., U) in fossilized bone material. Here, we demonstrate a novel approach to dating vertebrate fossils via laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry U-Pb dating of early diagenetic calcite cements precipitated within bone cavities of a Jurassic sauropod from the Sichuan Basin, South China. Early diagenetic calcite yielded a U-Pb age of 165.3 ± 3.6/5.6 Ma, in agreement with a maximum depositional age of 165.8 ± 1.0 Ma from detrital zircon ages of the surrounding rocks, suggesting that diagenesis occurred shortly after the death of the sauropod. This new age demonstrates that the best-known Jurassic large sauropod faunas in South China are much older than those in North America and Africa, suggesting the geographical isolation of South China. Authigenic apatite U-Pb dating on the fibrolamellar bones from the same sauropod gave a distinctly younger age, indicating more complex U-Pb system behavior, possibly due to U uptake by residual organic matter and recrystallization of apatite after early diagenesis. Our findings demonstrate that U-Pb dating of calcite cements within bone cavities has significant potential for constraining the burial age of vertebrate fossils, which could aid in constructing a more robust temporal framework for the radiation and evolution of vertebrates. Arc magmas are produced from the mantle wedge, with possible addition of fluids and melts derived from serpentinites and sediments in the subducting slab. Identification of various sources and their relevant contributions to such magmas is challenging; in particular, at continental arcs where crustal assimilation may overprint initial geochemical signatures. This study presents oxygen isotopic compositions of zoned olivine grains from post-caldera basalts and boron contents and isotopes of these basalts and glassy melt inclusions hosted in quartz and clinopyroxene of silicic tuffs in the Toba volcanic system, Indonesia. High-magnesian (≥87 mol% Fo [forsterite]) cores of olivine in the basalts have δ18O values ranging from 5.12‰ to 6.14‰, indicating that the mantle source underneath Toba is variably enriched in 18O. Olivine with <87 mol% Fo has highly variable (4.8-7.2‰), but overall increased, δ18O values, interpreted to reflect assimilation of high δ18O crustal materials during fractional crystallization. Mass balance calculations constrain the overall volume of crustal assimilation for the basalts as ≤13%. The processes responsible for the 18O-enriched basaltic melts are further constrained by boron data that indicate the addition of <0.1 wt% fluids to the mantle, >40% of the fluids being derived from serpentinites and others from altered oceanic crust and sediments. This amount of fluids can increase δ18O of the magma by only ∼0.02‰. Approximately 6-9% sediment-derived melt hybridization in the mantle wedge is further needed to yield basaltic melts with δ18O values in equilibrium with those of the high-Fo olivine cores. The cogenetic silicic tuffs, on the other hand, seem to record a higher proportion of fluid addition dominated by sediment-derived fluids to the mantle source, in addition to crustal assimilation. Our reconnaissance study therefore demonstrates the application of combined B and O isotopes to differentiate between melts and fluids derived from serpentinites and sediments in the subducted slab-an application that can be applied to arc magmas worldwide. Rutile stands as a classical mineral within U‐Pb geochronology, offering insights into both magmatic and metamorphic events, and contributing to the understanding of provenance of detrital sedimentary rocks. Addressing the paucity of high‐quality Archaean rutile reference materials suitable for microbeam U‐Pb dating, we present a natural rutile (RKV01) sourced from the Kaap Valley pluton, South Africa, positing it as a potential Archaean reference material. Major element determination was executed via electron probe microanalysis, while trace element determination was conducted using laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry (LA‐ICP‐MS). The determination of U‐Pb ages involved the application of isotope dilution‐thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (ID‐TIMS), secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and LA‐ICP‐MS. The ID‐TIMS mean 207Pb/206Pb age is 3225.61 ± 0.64 Ma (2s, MSWD = 0.83), interpreted as the best estimate for the crystallisation age. The relatively high U mass fraction (~ 83 μg g‐1), extremely low Th mass fraction (~ 0.003 μg g‐1), negligible common Pb and isotopically homogeneous compositions collectively facilitated precise 207Pb/206Pb age determination via microbeam methods. Both LA‐ICP‐MS and SIMS 207Pb/206Pb ages are characterised by reproducibility and were consistent with the ID‐TIMS age within 2s analytical uncertainty. The Zhazixi deposit hosted in sedimentary rocks is a major Sb-W deposit in South China. The mineral scheelite, which can be dated by the U-Pb method, commonly occurs in both tungsten (W)-dominated and antimony (Sb)-dominated ore veins of the deposit. Cathodoluminescence (CL) images reveal the presence of three distinct stages of scheelite (Sch-I, Sch-II and Sch-III) within the deposit. These three scheelites were dated using in-situ laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), yielding U-Pb ages of 158.1±5.4 Ma and 157.6 ± 4.9 Ma for Sch-I, 155 ± 11 Ma for Sch-II, and 151.3±6.1 Ma for Sch-III. These data suggest that the Zhazixi Sb-W deposit formed during the Late Jurassic (160–150 Ma) rather than the Late Triassic as previously suggested. Considering the temporal similarity with low-temperature hydrothermal Sb deposits in the Xiangzhong metallogenic province (XZMP), the formation of the Sb-W deposit may have followed a similar genetic model, where meteoric groundwater circulated to depth and extracted metals from fertile basement rocks through fluid-rock interaction, resulting in the generation of ore fluids. Iron oxide-copper–gold (IOCG) deposit genesis is often genetically linked to magmatism due to temporal association between granite and mineralization and participation of magma-derived components. In the Carajás Mineral Province, NW Brazil, a set of ca. 2.6–2.5 Ga IOCG deposits has been interpreted to be genetically linked to contemporary granite, which are located along the Cinzento Shear Zone, in the northern part of the province. Despite the apparent temporal correlation, the understanding of ca. 2.5 Ga ages as magmatic may be misleading, since ca. 2.6–2.5 Ga reset ages have been previously reported for deformed and hydrothermally altered granites crystallized at ca. 2.74 Ga. We studied the morphology, texture, and composition of 2.74–2.73 Ga, 2.68 Ga, 2.64–2.62 Ga, and 2.59–2.55 Ga zircons from variably deformed and metasomatized granites located along the Cinzento Shear Zone. Our study reveals re-equilibrated magmatic, deformed, and newly grown zircon domains with compositional changes (Ta, U, Y, and LREE enrichment relative to chondrite) that inconsistently follow textural patterns. The overprint arises from diffusion–reaction, coupled-dissolution-reprecipitation processes, and alteration of metamict zircons, likely aided by alkaline (Na–K-rich) and F-Cl-rich hydrothermal fluids that circulated regionally in the Carajás Province. Such processes account for disturbances and resetting of the U-Th-Pb isotopic system in zircon; therefore, the geochronological record in granites from our study can be associated with the first (ca. 2.72–2.68 Ga) and the second (ca. 2.6–2.5 Ga) IOCG-forming hydrothermal events rather than to igneous crystallization.
