The purpose of this article is to explore the archival methods and practices used in organizing personal archives, with a specific focus on the procedures employed in creating classification scheme in collections related to the performing arts. The study population selected for this research corresponds to the personal archive of Juan Carlos Gené, held at the Instituto de Artes del Espectáculo, which belongs to the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the Universidad de Buenos Aires. In order to obtain a more detailed overview of the state of the archive, a data collection instrument was designed for subsequent analysis in relation to what exists in the personal archive, the producer's activities, and their representation in the classification scheme. SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *DIGITAL technology , *SOCIAL networks , *ALTMETRICS , *COMMUNICATION planning , *BIBLIOMETRICS , *BIBLIOTHERAPY - Abstract
New digital technologies have modified the way scientific knowledge is being communicated. This work intends to evaluate the impact of a socio-digital communication plan implemented for the journal Arqueología (Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires), designed to boost the distribution and outreach of published content in the digital ecosystem. We proposed a method to evaluate the journal's visibility in social networks, website user behavior and the impact of the published content from 2018 to 2022, based on different altmetric and bibliometric indicators. The results of said analysis show that the effects of the pandemic coupled with the implementation of a dissemination strategy increased the journal's visibility in social networks, which in turn produced an increase in the number of views and downloads of its papers. These findings highlight the importance of considering various types of online interaction to better understand the academic impact of scientific research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this work is to gain a better understanding of the hydrodynamics of a typical Argentinian fishing vessel in calm water. It is focused on the evaluation of total ship resistance and its components for different draughts. The 1978 ITTC Power Prediction method is used to predict total ship resistance from experiments carried out at the University of Buenos Aires towing tank. To conduct a more detailed evaluation of the flow around this hull, numerical studies at model scale are carried out with the open-source code OpenFOAM V10 and validated against experimental results. The Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) method together with Volume of Fluid (VOF) are used for the numerical procedure. The validated CFD model not only can provide more detailed information about the ship's hydrodynamics than the EFD results but also allows for the exploration of the improvement in ship power prediction by using combined CFD-EFD methodologies. This work numerically calculates the form factor by using a double-body configuration and discusses the possibility of combining EFD results with this CFD form factor in order to improve total force prediction for this kind of ships. PLACE attachment (Psychology) , *GENDER identity , *PUBLIC spaces , *PUBLIC universities & colleges , *EMOTIONS - Abstract
This article focuses on the ways of inhabiting the university from the affective experience of those who spend time there daily, using the University of Buenos Aires campus as a case study. The article focuses specifically on what places make students or professors feel unsafe and what relationship that perception has with their gender identity. A second aim was to analyse what spaces the university community would like to modify to produce a more inclusive campus. Specifically, this article explores the affective experiences of using non-binary, gender-neutral bathrooms, what emotions people experience when walking around the campus at night, what places need improvements according to students and professors, and how gender influences what places are experienced as a source of pleasure or fear. Findings showed that different spaces generate a wide arc of emotions that range from comfort and pleasure to discomfort and fear, and that gender influences these emotions. The data obtained indicate that spaces such as bathrooms, outdoor spaces, and rest areas are experienced in terms of gender identity, topophilias – place attachment, and topophobias – place rejection, and they organise the everyday life of the university community. This non-experimental, structured, cross-sectional research seeks to provide an overview of the teaching of laws and regulations that affect the library profession, taking as an example the library science career at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. The research approach is mixed: quantitative (graduate surveys) and qualitative (interviews with different professionals) methods were combined. It contains a brief review of the laws involved and provides advice for their inclusion in the degree study plans. Most graduate librarians do not have sufficient knowledge of the laws related to their profession. How can a librarian promote free access to information and defend exceptions for libraries without solid rationale for the topic and tools to achieve it? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ANATOMICAL planes , *RENAL veins , *KIDNEY transplantation , *KIDNEY pelvis , *ANATOMY , *KIDNEYS - Abstract
Testut & Latarjet (1980), Bouchet & Cuilleret (1986), Latarjet & Liard (2005) y Rouvière & Delmas (2005) describe the intrinsic relationships of the renal pedicle (PR) from two coronal planes, the renal pelvis (PER) being the element that limits between both. Trivedi et al. (2011) showed relationships between the elements of the RP that do not coincide with the descriptions provided by these authors. Knowing the possible variants in the intrinsic relationships of the RP is of the utmost importance in surgical practices such as renal transplantation (García de Jalón Martínez et al., 2003). Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the variable relationships between the elements that make up the RP in the juxtahilar region of the kidney. 23 RP were studied, formalized at 10 % and provided by the Dissection Team of the Second Chair of Anatomy of the University of Buenos Aires. PRs were classified into two groups. In Group I, the tributaries of origin of the renal vein (RVOA) were in the same coronal plane. In group II, the AOVRs were in different coronal planes. Each group was subdivided into different patterns. Patterns I and II, with the highest incidence, were associated with group I and patterns III, IV and V with group II. In pattern I, the VROA were anterior to the renal pelvis (PER) and posterior to the prepelvic artery (PPA). In pattern II, AOVRs were prior to PER and APP. Patterns I and II make up group I and presented a higher number of incidence in our investigation. There are also variants that occur less frequently than these patterns, these comprise group II of the classification proposed in this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

'The Practical': Professional Legal Training and Social Commitment in the Curriculum of the Law School of the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) The aim of this article is to describe and analyse a centennial experience, the Free Legal Aid and Professional Training programme at the Law School of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), a one-year mandatory course that is part of the Law degree and commonly known as 'The Practical'. Throughout this year, final-year law students engage in serving the community, assisting individuals that lack the financial means to afford legal representation. This hands-on experience exposes students to pressing social issues such as domestic violence, discrimination, child rights violations and barriers to accessing healthcare. Through a qualitative methodology and drawing on research on Legal Clinics and the history of the programme, we ask ourselves whether 'The Practical' fits into the concept of clinical education. This theoretical framework, along with concepts on professional learning, such as Donald Schön's concept of reflective practicum and the anthropological ethics of Joan-Carles Mèlich, enables us to analyse similarities and differences between 'The Practical' and Legal Clinics and to characterise this training experience further. We conclude that 'The Practical' is both a rite of passage and a reflective practicum experience where hegemonic views on professional legal practice and law are deconstructed and the social reality is imposed to point out the social function of the lawyer's professional practice. INTERCOSTAL nerves , *NERVE block , *FEMORAL nerve , *INNERVATION , *PUDENDAL nerve , *PSOAS muscles , *SKIN innervation - Abstract
Abdominal pain is one of the symptoms that affect the abdominal-pelvic cavity. The abdominal-pelvic cavity has a somatic innervation involving the seventh to twelfth intercostal nerves, collateral and terminal branches of the lumbar plexus and the pudendal nerve. The objective of this work is the description of the lumbar plexus, intercostal nerves and pudendal nerve, its different patterns and structure variations, as well as its implications during pain management in patients. A descriptive, observational, and morphometric study of patterns and structure variations of the lumbar plexus, intercostal nerves and pudendal nerve was conducted in 50 formalin-fixed cadaveric dissections of the Third Chair of Anatomy at the School of Medicine in the Universidad de Buenos Aires from August 2017 to December/2019. The standard description of the lumbar plexus was found in 35 cases; accessory femoral nerve was not present in any of the cases; absence of the iliohipogastric nerve was also not found in any case, while the accessory obturating nerve was found in 2 cases; genitofemoral nerve dividing within the muscle mass of psoas in 6 cases; lateral femoral cutaneous nerve emerging only from the second lumbar root in 6 cases and finally, presence of a branch of the obturating nerve was found joining the lumbosacral trunk in one case. The pudendal and intercostal nerve patterns presented a typical pathway in all cases. Adequate knowledge and description of the lumbar plexus, intercostal nerves and pudendal nerve is essential for an adequate approach of the abdominal-pelvic cavity in nerve blocks. This manuscript focuses on the incidents, trials at courts of honour and duels involving important figures at the University of Buenos Aires School of Medical Sciences, which ruptured the peaceful surface of this institution in order to protect epistemic practices and settings. The existence in itself of the honour culture in the Buenos Aires aristocratic elite is, perhaps, as curious as its use by distinguished local doctors with the purpose of resolving disputes caused by clashing interests—which were related to their profession and experimental work. The conflicts discussed here shed light on a classic issue in the social history of science, technology and medicine: the collective bargaining of credibility in matters personal, professional and research-related. HANDWRITING , *PHILOSOPHICAL literature , *PAPER , *PRISONS , *WRITING education , *EDUCATION of prisoners , *UNIVERSITY faculty , *PUBLISHING - Abstract
In this article we study the particularities of editorial practice in contexts of confinement in Argentina through the systematization and analysis of five publications, already published or in the process of being published, which were formulated within the framework of pedagogical-political practices carried on by the Prisons Extension Program of the Philosophy and Literature Faculty of the University of Buenos Aires. These five cases will be addressed in order to observe what meanings guide the editorial processes through the marks imprinted on them by the specificity of the writing that summons them and the territory to which they belong. Publishing in the context of a pedagogical project developed by the university configures collective territories where writing and publications can display and carry plural voices, which are strengthened in that plurality forged in the heat of individual and collective subjectivation processes made possible by education and writing. Editorial practice is inseparably intertwined with actions aimed at defending rights, narrating lived experiences and building a collective history which are part of the desires and expectations regarding publication. The workshop ""Imagining what's next". Reflections upon genders and sexualities, writing and editorial practices", held by teachers of the Philosophy and Literature Faculty's Prison Outreach Program of the University of Buenos Aires, was an experience of re-entry and reconstruction of the pedagogical territory of the Ezeiza University Center of the IV Federal Penitentiary Complex, in Argentina, after the pandemic years' hardships. It is therefore worthwhile to observe, systematize and conceptualize the resources and strategies that teachers and students alike deployed as part of the process of re-engaging within the classroom. It is our purpose to contribute to the study on the literary, intimate, academic, political, and affective mechanisms that make up the field of pedagogical territories in prison. We approached several scenes and texts produced in this framework from the three disciplines that made up the workshop. We sought to explore the power of writing, editorial and pedagogical practices to counteract prison logics and create ways of repairing the damage inflicted on incarcerated persons. Thus, the community-building processes and the recourse to pleasure and desire as practices of resistance appear as guiding lines of the workshop we analyze in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The CIAA project was launched in Argentina in 2013 as a collaborative effort between academic and industrial sectors. The project is centered around a "free" hardware design concept and involves the Embedded Systems Laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires (Fiuba UBA), the Argentine Association of Embedded Sofiware (ACSE), and the Chamber Argentina of Electronic, Electromechanical and Lighting Industries (CADIEEL). The primary objective of the project is to foster national technological advancement. The project's origins, progression, various platform iterations, and key contributors are all characterized using a qualitative methodology, with an emphasis on examining the project's territorial network expansion. Ultimately, the CIAA project aims to contribute to ongoing discussions surrounding the production of "open" technological knowledge in Argentina. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SLEEP paralysis , *MEDICAL students , *SLEEP quality , *SOCIAL phobia , *RAPID eye movement sleep , *DEMOGRAPHIC surveys - Abstract
Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of sleep paralysis (SP) in medical students from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Materials and Methods: An ad hoc questionnaire based on the diagnosis of SP and a demographic survey was electronically presented to students of Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine of the UBA. The respondents answered both questionnaires using Google Forms®. Results: The prevalence of SP was 40.7% (95% CI 33.5-47.8). A higher percentage of the respondents (76%) reported experiencing SP-related anxiety. An association between self-perceived quality of sleep and the incidence of SP was found (χ²: 12.712, P = 0.002). The highest frequency was hypnopompic SP (55.55%), and the highest percentage (55.4%) suffered from SP less than once every 6 months. Most respondents (59.5%) reported having started with SP symptoms after 18 years of age, and the highest percentage (66.2%) had exacerbated their symptoms at college. The frequency of the Incubus phenomenon was 14.5% (95% CI 6.2-23). Most respondents (70.8%) denied the association of SP with religious or paranormal beliefs. Conclusion: SP is highly prevalent in medical students and is associated with poor sleep habits and perceived poor sleep quality. Clinicians should be aware of this parasomnia to avoid a misdiagnosis of psychosis and inform sufferers of the nature of SP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Laboratory Animals Technologist degree (Técnico Universitario en Gestión Integral de Bioterios) was created in 1989. It is offered jointly by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the University of Buenos Aires. The complete programme is organized into 15 courses, including basic and applied sciences, along with specific courses (Técnicas de Bioterio I to V) with a solid practice content that students must achieve. An additional challenge occurs when practices consist of animal handling and procedures, which can be stressful for students and animals. Since traditional evaluation methods may not be the best way to determine the acquisition of knowledge and practical performance, an evaluation rubric is proposed to assess the practices carried out by students. The aspects and criteria to be examined were previously known of by students and teachers. The evaluation levels include: 'Daily report and record-keeping', 'Food and water supply', 'Cleaning and disinfection of areas, Standardized Operational Procedures and routines fulfilment', 'Personnel and supplies circulation', 'Use of personal protection equipment and physical care', 'Fulfilment of tasks in established times', 'Animals procedures and organization of needed materials', 'Animal care' and 'Teamwork camaraderie and organization'. The proposed tool was implemented with good results to achieve the academic objectives while augmenting the confidence for practical expertise, minimizing doubts and uncertainties related to traditional evaluation methods, and providing students with an environment that favours knowledge acquisition and practical skills, establishing standard criteria among the teaching staff, and reducing and refining the use of animals for educational purposes.

In this editorial, on the occasion of the one-hundred anniversary of the creation of the Librarianship and Information Science Career at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, we reflect on various aspects of the teaching of the profession and its relationship with research. Some of the topics analyzed are the following: the need to abandon traditional Library Science, the incorporation of subjects such as mathematics, intensive computer programming and digital expertise into the curriculum, the discussion of the postgraduate academic training in the profession, the inclusion of anthropological and social studies in our careers, among other issues. Finally, we address the articulation of these new challenges with research as an integrating element to redefine the identity and new delimitation of the discipline. = En este editorial, con motivo de los cien años de la creación de la Carrera de Bibliotecología y Ciencia de la Información en la Universidad de Buenos Aires, se reflexiona sobre varios aspectos de la enseñanza de la profesión y su relación con la investigación. COVID-19 pandemic , *ALCOHOL drinking , *BINGE drinking , *ADOLESCENT smoking , *HANGOVERS , *COLLEGE students - Abstract
In Argentina, the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic led to serious changes to social interaction, health, economy, and education. Argentina experienced two extensive lockdown periods. University education remained virtual for almost two academic years. The purpose of the present work was to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 lockdowns in Argentina on alcohol consumption, hangover severity and smoking among university students in Buenos Aires. A retrospective online survey was conducted in 2021 among students of the University of Buenos Aires. Participants aged 18–35 years old were asked about the average number of alcoholic drinks and number of drinking days per week, binge drinking occasions, drunkenness, next day hangover severity, number of hangovers per month, and smoking behavior. The results showed that the first and second COVID-19 lockdowns were associated with significant reductions in both weekly alcohol consumption, and hangover severity and subjective intoxication on their heaviest drinking occasions. Males consumed significantly more alcohol than females, and older students (25–35 years old) consumed more alcohol than younger students (18–24 years old). In addition, younger students reduced the number of cigarettes smoked per day during the two lockdown periods while older students exhibited significantly more smoking days per week. In conclusion, the present work in Argentinian students revealed a significant reduction in weekly alcohol consumption, and subjective intoxication and hangover severity on their heaviest drinking occasions during the pandemic lockdown periods. TEACHING methods , *MODULARITY (Psychology) , *VIRTUAL reality , *ETHICAL problems , *MENTAL health , *BIOETHICS - Abstract
how to teach bioethics rigorously and attractively? This paper develops one of the pedagogical strategies implemented by a research team of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Buenos Aires to transmit Bioethics through online platforms. Based on the methodology of the Casebook Unesco of Psychiatry and Mental Health, a multiple-choice exercise was designed in Moodle's educational platform, which presents complex ethical dilemmas clearly. The purpose of the activity is to provide a tool to contemplate the effects of the course of action for the field of health and subjectivity. The exercise consists of providing different levels of help for the resolution of the dilemmatic situation, through the reference to relevant bibliographic sources, with particular emphasis on the articulation of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights and the deontological codes that govern professional practice. Using case-vignettes in virtual environments aims to develop competencies that allow students to participate in decision-making processes actively. This calls for the collective construction of knowledge through dialogic exchange and ethical deliberation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although the transformation process that universities have been carrying out dates back to the beginning of the last century, the problem of women and the gender agenda has been strongly established and legitimized in educational institutions and in the general population since the "Ni una menos" first massive mobilization in 2015. At the same time that the creation and implementation of gender policies in national universities generate strong adhesions and support, they also arouse tensions, affections and refractory positions. That is why, the purpose of this article is to focus on the understanding of the latter; what are their arguments and rhetorical resources. For these reason we analyze with Discourse Analysis tools, the posts and comments made in the institutional accounts of the social network Facebook of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSoc) and the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (FFyL), both academic units of the University of Buenos Aires. We warn that in the context of the gender policies expansion and the intensification of feminist rhetoric and agenda at the higher level of education, there is a research vacancy of these reactive positions, whose greater knowledge allows us to enrich and make the debates more complex around the scope and limitations of university democratization in terms of gender. The Spanish psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Ángel Garma—exiled in Argentina after the Spanish Civil War—was one of the founders and the first president of the Argentinian Psychoanalytical Association. Garma unsuccessfully tried to become a university lecturer on three occasions. His final attempt was in 1965, when he applied for a professorship in deep psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the University of Buenos Aires. The application he submitted for this professorship position has been located in Ángel Garma's personal archive. The aim of this article is to analyse this manuscript to search for clues about the author's relationship with his own work and to explain the priorities and interests he intended to explore in the university environment. The first part of the article analyses the content of his application for the professorship, contrasting this content with published work and reviewing the fundamental lines of Garma's psychoanalytical thought (child sexuality, psychoanalysis and psychosomatic medicine, the psychoanalytical institution, etc.). The second part suggests the main reasons why Garma failed in his attempts to become a university lecturer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
