The nitrogen superacid (CF3SO2)2NH and its conjugate anion in (Mg H2O 6)(CF3SO2 2N)2.2H2O is structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecular structure of (CF3SO2)2NH has a two-fold crystallographic axis cutting through the N-H bonds in the center. The anion (CF3SO 2N)- undergoes electron delocalization from the planar, sp2-hybridized nitrogen into the 3d orbitals of sulfur. This results to the shortening of the S-N bonds by about 0.07 angstroms on deprotonation.

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering was measured at c.m.s. energies [radical][ital s] =546 and 1800 GeV in the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.025[lt][minus][ital t][lt]0.29 GeV[sup 2]. The data are well described by the exponential form [ital e][sup [ital b][ital t]] with a slope [ital b]=15.28[plus minus]0.58 (16.98[plus minus]0.25) GeV[sup [minus]2] at [radical][ital s] =546 (1800) GeV. The elastic scattering cross sections are, respectively, [sigma][sub el]=12.87[plus minus]0.30 and 19.70[plus minus]0.85 mb.

We present a measurement of the [ital b]-quark cross section in 1.8 TeV [ital p]-[ital [bar p]] collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab using muonic [ital b]-quark decays. In the central rapidity region ([vert bar][ital y][sup [ital b]][vert bar][lt]1.0), the cross section is 295[plus minus]21[plus minus]75 nb (59[plus minus]14[plus minus]15 nb) for [ital p][sub [ital T]][sup [ital b]][gt]21 GeV/[ital c] (29 GeV/[ital c]). Comparisons are made to previous measurements and next-to-leading order QCD calculations.

The data have been recorded at the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1988-89 run. Inclusive jet cross sections have been measured in pp collisions at s =546 and 1800 GeV, using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The ratio of jet cross sections is compared to predictions from simple scaling and O(as3) QCD. The dijet angular distribution is measured in the Collider Detector at Fermilab. This measurement covers higher mass ranges and larger scattering angles than previously possible. Good agreement is observed between the data and both leading-order [O(${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\alpha}}}_{\mathit{s}}^{2}$)] and next-to-leading order [O(${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\alpha}}}_{\mathit{s}}^{3}$)] QCD calculations. A limit on quark compositeness of ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{\mathit{c}}$g1.0 TeV is obtained.

In the indoor air environment in Taiwan, formaldehyde concentration stays at a high level, which is an important issue affecting indoor air quality, and the formaldehyde issue in medical building spaces is more severe. The novel formaldehyde sensor based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), which uses quartz glass as basic material, platinum as micro heater resistance, as well as a heat sensing layer and NiO film as a sensing layer. NiO film was used to form a sensing layer in the method of sputter deposition. Platinum was used as electrode to measure and sense resistance change. When there was formaldehyde gas in the environment, the electrical conductivity on the NiO film increased, thus causing the resistance on the sensing layer to decrease. The sensor displayed the value of formaldehyde concentration. The novel formaldehyde sensor with MEMS was applied and tested in a large medical center (medical space) in southern Taiwan. The formaldehyde concentration in 120 points in one medical building was tested. The results showed that the indoor formaldehyde concentration was between 0.01-2.31 ppm, exceeding the indoor air quality standard - 0.08 ppm, and the failure rate of the whole building was over 50%. In pp̄ collisions at s=1.8 TeV we find jet events with a rapidity gap topology. The number of hadrons in the rapidity interval ΔηD between leading-jet cones was sampled by charged tracks with PT>400 MeV/c. We find excess trackless events beyond that expected in a smooth multiplicity distribution. In a control region outside ΔηD we see no excess. For ΔηD>0.8, the fraction of excess trackless events, consistent with estimates based on exchange of color-singlet digluons, is R(gap)=σjet(gap) σjet=0.0085±0.0012(stat)-0.0012+0.0024(syst). © 1995 The American Physical Society. 74 6 855 859 Cited By :79

This paper reports the measurement of the B meson and b quark cross sections through the decay chain B0→J/ψ K*(892)0, J/ψ→μ+μ-, K*(892)0→K+π-, using 4.3 pb-1 of data collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in p̄p collisions at qrts=1.8 TeV. We obtain σB=1.5±0.7(stat)±0.6(syst) μb for B0 mesons with transverse momentum PT>9.0 GeV/c and rapidity y11.5 GeV/c and rapidity yCited By :31

We report a measurement of the diffraction dissociation differential cross section [ital d][sup 2][sigma][sub SD]/[ital dM][sup 2][ital dt] for [ital [bar p]p][r arrow][ital [bar p]X] at [radical][ital s] =546 and 1800 GeV, [ital M][sup 2]/[ital s][lt]0.2 and 0[le][minus][ital t][le]0.4 GeV[sup 2]. Our results are compared to theoretical predictions and to extrapolations from experimental results at lower energies.

Color coherence effects in pp̄ collisions are observed and studied with CDF, the Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We demonstrate these effects by measuring spatial correlations between soft and leading jets in multijet events. Variables sensitive to interference are identified by comparing the data to the predictions of various shower Monte Carlo programs that are substantially different with respect to the implementation of coherence. © 1994 The American Physical Society 50 9 5562 5579 Cited By :43

- Abstract
We present results of a search for a first-generation leptoquark S1 in p̄p collisions at s=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. Using 4.05 pb-1 of data collected during the 1988-1989 CDF run, we have searched for evidence of S1S̄1 production assuming that each leptoquark decays to an electron+quark pair with a branching ratio β. Three events with two high energy electrons and two high energy jets were found, but are consistent with Z0 decay. No events were found in the signal region. Assuming a short lived scalar leptoquark with Yukawa coupling strength λ2×10-7, we exclude σβ2> 55(4.0) pb at 95% C.L. for MS=45(125) GeV/c2. Using a Monte Carlo prediction for σ(p̄p→S1S̄1+X), we exclude MSCited By :39

High Energy Physics::Experiment - Abstract
The first prompt photon measurement from the CDF experiment at the Fermilab pp̄ Collider is presented. Two independent methods are used to measure the cross section: one for high transverse momentum (PT) and one for lower PT. Comparisons to various theoretical calculations are shown. We present a measurement of jet shapes in p̄p collisions at s =1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Qualitative agreement is seen with the predictions of recent next-to-leading [O(αs3)] calculations and with leading logarithm QCD based Monte Carlo simulations. Data taken with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) during the 1988-1989 run of the Tevatron are used to measure the distribution of the center-of-mass (rest frame of the initial state partons) angle between isolated prompt photons and the beam direction. The shape of the angular distribution for photon-jet events is found to be significantly different from that observed in dijet data. - Abstract
We report the full reconstruction of χc mesons through the decay chain χc→J/ψ γ, J/ψ→μ+μ-, using data obtained at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2.6±0.2 pb-1 of p̄p collisions at s =1.8 TeV. This exclusive χc sample is used to measure the χc-meson production cross section times branching fractions. We obtain σ×B=3.2±0.4(stat)-1.1+1.2(syst) nb for χc mesons decaying to J/ψ with pT>6.0 GeV/c and pseudorapidity η8.5 GeV/c and Cited By :115

We have searched for the b-flavored baryon decay bJ0 in pp collisions at s=1.8 TeV with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). In the J0 invariant-mass distribution we observe a flat distribution and a small number of events, consistent with no signal. Using the b-quark cross section measured by the CDF we put an upper limit on the bb production fraction times the branching ratio F(b)B(bJ0) of 0.50×10-3 at 90% confidence level. © 1993 The American Physical Society. 47 7 R2639 R2643 Cited By :22
