With the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the rising interconnectedness of devices, network security faces significant challenges, especially from anomalous activities. While traditional machine learning-based intrusion detection systems (ML-IDS) effectively employ supervised learning methods, they possess limitations such as the requirement for labeled data and challenges with high dimensionality. Recent unsupervised ML-IDS approaches such as AutoEncoders and Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) offer alternative solutions but pose challenges in deployment onto resource-constrained IoT devices and in interpretability. To address these concerns, this paper proposes a novel federated unsupervised anomaly detection framework, FedPCA, that leverages Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the Alternating Directions Method Multipliers (ADMM) to learn common representations of distributed non-i.i.d. datasets. Building on the FedPCA framework, we propose two algorithms, FEDPE in Euclidean space and FEDPG on Grassmann manifolds. Our approach enables real-time threat detection and mitigation at the device level, enhancing network resilience while ensuring privacy. Moreover, the proposed algorithms are accompanied by theoretical convergence rates even under a subsampling scheme, a novel result. Experimental results on the UNSW-NB15 and TON-IoT datasets show that our proposed methods offer performance in anomaly detection comparable to nonlinear baselines, while providing significant improvements in communication and memory efficiency, underscoring their potential for securing IoT networks., Comment: Accepted for publication at IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking

With the increasing trend of Machine Learning (ML) enabled software applications, the paradigm of ML Operations (MLOps) has gained tremendous attention of researchers and practitioners. MLOps encompasses the practices and technologies for streamlining the resources and monitoring needs of operationalizing ML models. Software development practitioners need access to the detailed and easily understandable knowledge of MLOps workflows, practices, challenges and solutions to effectively and efficiently support the adoption of MLOps. Whilst the academic and industry literature on the MLOps has been growing rapidly, there have been relatively a few attempts at systematically synthesizing and analyzing the vast amount of existing literature of MLOps for improving ease of access and understanding. We conducted a Multivocal Literature Review (MLR) of 150 relevant academic studies and 48 gray literature to provide a comprehensive body of knowledge on MLOps. Through this MLR, we identified the emerging MLOps practices, adoption challenges and solutions related to various areas, including development and operation of complex pipelines, managing production at scale, managing artifacts, and ensuring quality, security, governance, and ethical aspects. We also report the socio-technical aspect of MLOps relating to diverse roles involved and collaboration practices across them through the MLOps lifecycle. We assert that this MLR provides valuable insights to researchers and practitioners seeking to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of MLOps. While astonishingly capable, large Language Models (LLM) can sometimes produce outputs that deviate from human expectations. Such deviations necessitate an alignment phase to prevent disseminating untruthful, toxic, or biased information. Traditional alignment methods based on reinforcement learning often struggle with the identified instability, whereas preference optimization methods are limited by their overfitting to pre-collected hard-label datasets. In this paper, we propose a novel LLM alignment framework named $i$REPO, which utilizes implicit Reward pairwise difference regression for Empirical Preference Optimization. Particularly, $i$REPO employs self-generated datasets labelled by empirical human (or AI annotator) preference to iteratively refine the aligned policy through a novel regression-based loss function. Furthermore, we introduce an innovative algorithm backed by theoretical guarantees for achieving optimal results under ideal assumptions and providing a practical performance-gap result without such assumptions. Experimental results with Phi-2 and Mistral-7B demonstrate that $i$REPO effectively achieves self-alignment using soft-label, self-generated responses and the logit of empirical AI annotators. Wireless information and energy transfer (WIET) represents an emerging paradigm which employs controllable transmission of radio-frequency signals for the dual purpose of data communication and wireless charging. As such, WIET is widely regarded as an enabler of envisioned 6G use cases that rely on energy-sustainable Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks, such as smart cities and smart grids. Meeting the quality-of-service demands of WIET, in terms of both data transfer and power delivery, requires effective co-design of the information and energy signals. In this article, we present the main principles and design aspects of WIET, focusing on its integration in 6G networks. First, we discuss how conventional communication notions such as resource allocation and waveform design need to be revisited in the context of WIET. Next, we consider various candidate 6G technologies that can boost WIET efficiency, namely, holographic multiple-input multiple-output, near-field beamforming, terahertz communication, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), and reconfigurable (fluid) antenna arrays. We introduce respective WIET design methods, analyze the promising performance gains of these WIET systems, and discuss challenges, open issues, and future research directions. Finally, a near-field energy beamforming scheme and a power-based IRS beamforming algorithm are experimentally validated using a wireless energy transfer testbed. The vision of WIET in communication systems has been gaining momentum in recent years, with constant progress with respect to theoretical but also practical aspects. Beyond class frequency, we recognize the impact of class-wise relationships among various class-specific predictions and the imbalance in label masks on long-tailed segmentation learning. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative Pixel-wise Adaptive Training (PAT) technique tailored for long-tailed segmentation. PAT has two key features: 1) class-wise gradient magnitude homogenization, and 2) pixel-wise class-specific loss adaptation (PCLA). First, the class-wise gradient magnitude homogenization helps alleviate the imbalance among label masks by ensuring equal consideration of the class-wise impact on model updates. Second, PCLA tackles the detrimental impact of both rare classes within the long-tailed distribution and inaccurate predictions from previous training stages by encouraging learning classes with low prediction confidence and guarding against forgetting classes with high confidence. This combined approach fosters robust learning while preventing the model from forgetting previously learned knowledge. PAT exhibits significant performance improvements, surpassing the current state-of-the-art by 2.2% in the NyU dataset. Moreover, it enhances overall pixel-wise accuracy by 2.85% and intersection over union value by 2.07%, with a particularly notable declination of 0.39% in detecting rare classes compared to Balance Logits Variation, as demonstrated on the three popular datasets, i.e., OxfordPetIII, CityScape, and NYU.

Network operators are facing new challenges when meeting the needs of their customers. The challenges arise due to the rise of new services, such as HD video streaming, IoT, autonomous driving, etc., and the exponential growth of network traffic. In this context, 5G and B5G networks have been evolving to accommodate a wide range of applications and use cases. Additionally, this evolution brings new features, like the ability to create multiple end-to-end isolated virtual networks using network slicing. Nevertheless, to ensure the quality of service, operators must maintain and optimize their networks in accordance with the key performance indicators (KPIs) and the slice service-level agreements (SLAs). In this paper, we introduce a machine learning (ML) model used to estimate throughput in 5G and B5G networks with end-to-end (E2E) network slices. Then, we combine the predicted throughput with the current network state to derive an estimate of other network KPIs, which can be used to further improve service assurance. To assess the efficiency of our solution, a performance metric was proposed. Numerical evaluations demonstrate that our KPI prediction model outperforms those derived from other methods with the same or nearly the same computational time.

The customization of services in Fifth-generation (5G) and Beyond 5G (B5G) networks relies heavily on network slicing, which creates multiple virtual networks on a shared physical infrastructure, tailored to meet specific requirements of distinct applications, using Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). It is imperative to ensure that network services meet the performance and reliability requirements of various applications and users, thus, service assurance is one of the critical components in network slicing. One of the key functionalities of network slicing is the ability to scale Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) in response to changing resource demand and to meet Customer Service Level agreements (SLAs). In this paper, we introduce a proactive closed-loop algorithm for end-to-end network orchestration, designed to provide service assurance in 5G and B5G networks. We focus on dynamically scaling resources to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to each network slice and operate in parallel across multiple slices, making it scalable and capable of managing completely automatically real-time service assurance. Background: Pneumothorax is an acute thoracic disease caused by abnormal air collection between the lungs and chest wall. To address the opaqueness often associated with deep learning (DL) models, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) methods have been introduced to outline regions related to pneumothorax diagnoses made by DL models. However, these explanations sometimes diverge from actual lesion areas, highlighting the need for further improvement. Method: We propose a template-guided approach to incorporate the clinical knowledge of pneumothorax into model explanations generated by XAI methods, thereby enhancing the quality of these explanations. Utilizing one lesion delineation created by radiologists, our approach first generates a template that represents potential areas of pneumothorax occurrence. This template is then superimposed on model explanations to filter out extraneous explanations that fall outside the template's boundaries. To validate its efficacy, we carried out a comparative analysis of three XAI methods with and without our template guidance when explaining two DL models in two real-world datasets. Results: The proposed approach consistently improved baseline XAI methods across twelve benchmark scenarios built on three XAI methods, two DL models, and two datasets. The average incremental percentages, calculated by the performance improvements over the baseline performance, were 97.8% in Intersection over Union (IoU) and 94.1% in Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) when comparing model explanations and ground-truth lesion areas. Conclusions: In the context of pneumothorax diagnoses, we proposed a template-guided approach for improving AI explanations. We anticipate that our template guidance will forge a fresh approach to elucidating AI models by integrating clinical domain expertise.

The ability to identify granular materials facilitates the emergence of various new applications in robotics, ranging from cooking at home to truck loading at mining sites. However, granular material identification remains a challenging and underexplored area. In this work, we present a novel interactive material identification framework that enables robots to identify a wide range of granular materials using only a force-torque sensor for perception. Our framework, comprising interactive exploration, feature extraction, and classification stages, prioritizes simplicity and transparency for seamless integration into various manipulation pipelines. We evaluate the proposed approach through extensive experiments with a real-world dataset comprising 11 granular materials, which we also make publicly available. Additionally, we conducted a comprehensive qualitative analysis of the dataset to offer deeper insights into its nature, aiding future development. Our results show that the proposed method is capable of accurately identifying a wide range of granular materials solely relying on force measurements obtained from direct interaction with the materials. Imitation Learning (IL) is a promising paradigm for learning dynamic manipulation of deformable objects since it does not depend on difficult-to-create accurate simulations of such objects. However, the translation of motions demonstrated by a human to a robot is a challenge for IL, due to differences in the embodiments and the robot's physical limits. These limits are especially relevant in dynamic manipulation where high velocities and accelerations are typical. To address this problem, we propose a framework that first maps a dynamic demonstration into a motion that respects the robot's constraints using a constrained Dynamic Movement Primitive. Second, the resulting object state is further optimized by quasi-static refinement motions to optimize task performance metrics. This allows both efficiently altering the object state by dynamic motions and stable small-scale refinements. We evaluate the framework in the challenging task of bag opening, designing the system BILBO: Bimanual dynamic manipulation using Imitation Learning for Bag Opening. Our results show that BILBO can successfully open a wide range of crumpled bags, using a demonstration with a single bag. Real-time collaboration with humans poses challenges due to the different behavior patterns of humans resulting from diverse physical constraints. Existing works typically focus on learning safety constraints for collaboration, or how to divide and distribute the subtasks between the participating agents to carry out the main task. In contrast, we propose to learn a human constraints model that, in addition, considers the diverse behaviors of different human operators. We consider a type of collaboration in a shared-autonomy fashion, where both a human operator and an assistive robot act simultaneously in the same task space that affects each other's actions. The task of the assistive agent is to augment the skill of humans to perform a shared task by supporting humans as much as possible, both in terms of reducing the workload and minimizing the discomfort for the human operator. With the rapid rise in Software Supply Chain (SSC) attacks, organisations need thorough and trustworthy visibility over the entire SSC of their software inventory to detect risks early and identify compromised assets rapidly in the event of an SSC attack. One way to achieve such visibility is through SSC metadata, machine-readable and authenticated documents describing an artefact's lifecycle. Adopting SSC metadata requires organisations to procure or develop a Software Supply Chain Metadata Management system (SCM2), a suite of software tools for performing life cycle activities of SSC metadata documents such as creation, signing, distribution, and consumption. Selecting or developing an SCM2 is challenging due to the lack of a comprehensive domain model and architectural blueprint to aid practitioners in navigating the vast design space of SSC metadata terminologies, frameworks, and solutions. This paper addresses the above-mentioned challenge by presenting an empirically grounded Reference Architecture (RA) comprising of a domain model and an architectural blueprint for SCM2 systems. Our proposed RA is constructed systematically on an empirical foundation built with industry-driven and peer-reviewed SSC security frameworks. Federated Learning (FL) is a prominent distributed learning paradigm facilitating collaboration among nodes within an edge network to co-train a global model without centralizing data. By shifting computation to the network edge, FL offers robust and responsive edge-AI solutions and enhance privacy-preservation. However, deploying deep FL models within edge environments is often hindered by communication bottlenecks, data heterogeneity, and memory limitations. To address these challenges jointly, we introduce FeDEQ, a pioneering FL framework that effectively employs deep equilibrium learning and consensus optimization to exploit a compact shared data representation across edge nodes, allowing the derivation of personalized models specific to each node. We delve into a unique model structure composed of an equilibrium layer followed by traditional neural network layers. Here, the equilibrium layer functions as a global feature representation that edge nodes can adapt to personalize their local layers. Capitalizing on FeDEQ's compactness and representation power, we present a novel distributed algorithm rooted in the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) consensus optimization and theoretically establish its convergence for smooth objectives. Experiments across various benchmarks demonstrate that FeDEQ achieves performance comparable to state-of-the-art personalized methods while employing models of up to 4 times smaller in communication size and 1.5 times lower memory footprint during training.

This paper explores Large Batch Training techniques using layer-wise adaptive scaling ratio (LARS) across diverse settings, uncovering insights. LARS algorithms with warm-up tend to be trapped in sharp minimizers early on due to redundant ratio scaling. Additionally, a fixed steep decline in the latter phase restricts deep neural networks from effectively navigating early-phase sharp minimizers. Building on these findings, we propose Time Varying LARS (TVLARS), a novel algorithm that replaces warm-up with a configurable sigmoid-like function for robust training in the initial phase. TVLARS promotes gradient exploration early on, surpassing sharp optimizers and gradually transitioning to LARS for robustness in later phases. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TVLARS consistently outperforms LARS and LAMB in most cases, with up to 2\% improvement in classification scenarios. Notably, in all self-supervised learning cases, TVLARS dominates LARS and LAMB with performance improvements of up to 10\%.

In video streaming over HTTP, the bitrate adaptation selects the quality of video chunks depending on the current network condition. Some previous works have applied deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms to determine the chunk's bitrate from the observed states to maximize the quality-of-experience (QoE). However, to build an intelligent model that can predict in various environments, such as 3G, 4G, Wifi, \textit{etc.}, the states observed from these environments must be sent to a server for training centrally. In this work, we integrate federated learning (FL) to DRL-based rate adaptation to train a model appropriate for different environments. The clients in the proposed framework train their model locally and only update the weights to the server. The simulations show that our federated DRL-based rate adaptations, called FDRLABR with different DRL algorithms, such as deep Q-learning, advantage actor-critic, and proximal policy optimization, yield better performance than the traditional bitrate adaptation methods in various environments., Comment: 13 pages, 1 column

Planning robotic manipulation tasks, especially those that involve interaction between deformable and rigid objects, is challenging due to the complexity in predicting such interactions. We introduce SPONGE, a sequence planning pipeline powered by a deep learning-based contact prediction model for contacts between deformable and rigid bodies under interactions. The contact prediction model is trained on synthetic data generated by a developed simulation environment to learn the mapping from point-cloud observation of a rigid target object and the pose of a deformable tool, to 3D representation of the contact points between the two bodies. We experimentally evaluated the proposed approach for a dish cleaning task both in simulation and on a real \panda with real-world objects. The experimental results demonstrate that in both scenarios the proposed planning pipeline is capable of generating high-quality trajectories that can accomplish the task by achieving more than 90\% area coverage on different objects of varying sizes and curvatures while minimizing travel distance. With the increasing awareness and concerns around privacy, many service providers offer their users various privacy controls. Through these controls, users gain greater authority over the collection, utilisation, and dissemination of their personal information by the services. However, these controls may be buried deep within menus or settings, making them difficult for a user to access. Additionally, the terminology used to describe privacy controls can sometimes be confusing or technical, further complicating the user's ability to understand and use them effectively. This is especially true for health websites, as users often share sensitive information about their health and well-being. While many privacy controls have been proposed to protect user data on these sites, existing research focuses on individual controls (e.g., privacy policies or cookie opt-outs) rather than providing a comprehensive overview of the privacy landscape. In addition, many studies concentrate on the technical aspects of privacy controls without considering the usability of these features from a user's perspective. This paper aims to fill the gaps in the existing work by analysing four privacy controls, namely privacy nudge, privacy notice, privacy policy, and privacy setting, and evaluating their usability on the top 100 most visited health websites. First, we define usability attributes for each privacy control in three website visit scenarios; the guest, registering, and log-in visits. These attributes include awareness, efficiency, comprehension, functionality, and choice. Then, we design a survey template based on these attributes and scenarios and collect data about privacy controls. Next, we analyse the availability and usability of each privacy control on health websites. Finally, we provide suggestions for improving the design of these privacy controls based on the data analysis results.

Most state-of-the-art data-driven grasp sampling methods propose stable and collision-free grasps uniformly on the target object. For bin-picking, executing any of those reachable grasps is sufficient. However, for completing specific tasks, such as squeezing out liquid from a bottle, we want the grasp to be on a specific part of the object's body while avoiding other locations, such as the cap. This work presents a generative grasp sampling network, VCGS, capable of constrained 6 Degrees of Freedom (DoF) grasp sampling. In addition, we also curate a new dataset designed to train and evaluate methods for constrained grasping. The new dataset, called CONG, consists of over 14 million training samples of synthetically rendered point clouds and grasps at random target areas on 2889 objects. VCGS is benchmarked against GraspNet, a state-of-the-art unconstrained grasp sampler, in simulation and on a real robot. The results demonstrate that VCGS achieves a 10-15% higher grasp success rate than the baseline while being 2-3 times as sample efficient. In the era of Internet of Things (IoT), network-wide anomaly detection is a crucial part of monitoring IoT networks due to the inherent security vulnerabilities of most IoT devices. Principal Components Analysis (PCA) has been proposed to separate network traffics into two disjoint subspaces corresponding to normal and malicious behaviors for anomaly detection. However, the privacy concerns and limitations of devices' computing resources compromise the practical effectiveness of PCA. We propose a federated PCA-based Grassmannian optimization framework that coordinates IoT devices to aggregate a joint profile of normal network behaviors for anomaly detection. First, we introduce a privacy-preserving federated PCA framework to simultaneously capture the profile of various IoT devices' traffic. Then, we investigate the alternating direction method of multipliers gradient-based learning on the Grassmann manifold to guarantee fast training and the absence of detecting latency using limited computational resources. Empirical results on the NSL-KDD dataset demonstrate that our method outperforms baseline approaches. Finally, we show that the Grassmann manifold algorithm is highly adapted for IoT anomaly detection, which permits drastically reducing the analysis time of the system. In this paper, we introduce a high-quality and large-scale benchmark dataset for English-Vietnamese speech translation with 508 audio hours, consisting of 331K triplets of (sentence-lengthed audio, English source transcript sentence, Vietnamese target subtitle sentence). We also conduct empirical experiments using strong baselines and find that the traditional "Cascaded" approach still outperforms the modern "End-to-End" approach. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first large-scale English-Vietnamese speech translation study. We hope both our publicly available dataset and study can serve as a starting point for future research and applications on English-Vietnamese speech translation. Large-scale Machine Learning (ML) based Software Systems are increasingly developed by distributed teams situated in different trust domains. Insider threats can launch attacks from any domain to compromise ML assets (models and datasets). Therefore, practitioners require information about how and by whom ML assets were developed to assess their quality attributes such as security, safety, and fairness. Unfortunately, it is challenging for ML teams to access and reconstruct such historical information of ML assets (ML provenance) because it is generally fragmented across distributed ML teams and threatened by the same adversaries that attack ML assets. This paper proposes ProML, a decentralised platform that leverages blockchain and smart contracts to empower distributed ML teams to jointly manage a single source of truth about circulated ML assets' provenance without relying on a third party, which is vulnerable to insider threats and presents a single point of failure. We propose a novel architectural approach called Artefact-as-a-State-Machine to leverage blockchain transactions and smart contracts for managing ML provenance information and introduce a user-driven provenance capturing mechanism to integrate existing scripts and tools to ProML without compromising participants' control over their assets and toolchains. We evaluate the performance and overheads of ProML by benchmarking a proof-of-concept system on a global blockchain. In federated learning, participating clients typically possess non-i.i.d. data, posing a significant challenge to generalization to unseen distributions. To address this, we propose a Wasserstein distributionally robust optimization scheme called WAFL. Leveraging its duality, we frame WAFL as an empirical surrogate risk minimization problem, and solve it using a local SGD-based algorithm with convergence guarantees. We show that the robustness of WAFL is more general than related approaches, and the generalization bound is robust to all adversarial distributions inside the Wasserstein ball (ambiguity set). Since the center location and radius of the Wasserstein ball can be suitably modified, WAFL shows its applicability not only in robustness but also in domain adaptation. Through empirical evaluation, we demonstrate that WAFL generalizes better than the vanilla FedAvg in non-i.i.d. settings, and is more robust than other related methods in distribution shift settings. Further, using benchmark datasets we show that WAFL is capable of generalizing to unseen target domains.

The construction of an interactive dashboard involves deciding on what information to present and how to display it and implementing those design decisions to create an operational dashboard. Traditionally, a dashboard's design is implied in the deployed dashboard rather than captured explicitly as a digital artifact, preventing it from being backed up, version-controlled, and shared. Moreover, practitioners have to implement this implicit design manually by coding or configuring it on a dashboard platform. This paper proposes Mod2Dash, a software framework that enables practitioners to capture their dashboard designs as models and generate operational dashboards automatically from these models. The framework also provides a GUI-driven customization approach for practitioners to fine-tune the auto-generated dashboards and update their models. With these abilities, Mod2Dash enables practitioners to rapidly prototype and deploy dashboards for both operational and research purposes. We evaluated the framework's effectiveness in a case study on cyber security visualization for decision support. A proof-of-concept of Mod2Dash was employed to model and reconstruct 31 diverse real-world cyber security dashboards. A human-assisted comparison between the Mod2Dash-generated dashboards and the baseline dashboards shows a close matching, indicating the framework's effectiveness for real-world scenarios.

Evaluation of grasps on deformable 3D objects is a little-studied problem, even if the applicability of rigid object grasp quality measures for deformable ones is an open question. A central issue with most quality measures is their dependence on contact points which for deformable objects depend on the deformations. This paper proposes a grasp quality measure for deformable objects that uses information about object deformation to calculate the grasp quality. Grasps are evaluated by simulating the deformations during grasping and predicting the contacts between the gripper and the grasped object. The contact information is then used as input for a new grasp quality metric to quantify the grasp quality. The approach is benchmarked against two classical rigid-body quality metrics on over 600 grasps in the Isaac gym simulation and over 50 real-world grasps. Blockchain network deployment and evaluation have become prevalent due to the demand for private blockchains by enterprises, governments, and edge computing systems. Whilst a blockchain network's deployment and evaluation are driven by its architecture, practitioners still need to learn and carry out many repetitive and error-prone activities to transform architecture into an operational blockchain network and evaluate it. Greater efficiency could be gained if practitioners focus solely on the architecture design, a valuable and hard-to-automate activity, and leave the implementation steps to an automation framework. This paper proposes an automation framework called NVAL (Network Deployment and Evaluation Framework), which can deploy and evaluate blockchain networks based on their architecture specifications. The key idea of NVAL is reusing and combining the existing automation scripts and utilities of various blockchain types to deploy and evaluate incoming blockchain network architectures. We propose a novel meta-model to capture blockchain network architectures as computer-readable artefacts and employ a state-space search approach to plan and conduct their deployment and evaluation. An evaluative case study shows that NVAL successfully combines seven deployment and evaluation procedures to deploy 65 networks with 12 different architectures and generate 295 evaluation datasets whilst incurring a negligible processing time overhead., Comment: Published in the Journal of Network and Computer Applications

Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), which integrate space and aerial networks with terrestrial systems, are a key area in the emerging sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks. As part of 6G, NTNs must provide pervasive connectivity to a wide range of devices, including smartphones, vehicles, sensors, robots, and maritime users. However, due to the high mobility and deployment of NTNs, managing the space-air-sea (SAS) NTN resources, i.e., energy, power, and channel allocation, is a major challenge. The design of a SAS-NTN for energy-efficient resource allocation is investigated in this study. The goal is to maximize system energy efficiency (EE) by collaboratively optimizing user equipment (UE) association, power control, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) deployment. Given the limited payloads of UAVs, this work focuses on minimizing the total energy cost of UAVs (trajectory and transmission) while meeting EE requirements. A mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem is proposed, followed by the development of an algorithm to decompose, and solve each problem distributedly. The binary (UE association) and continuous (power, deployment) variables are separated using the Bender decomposition (BD), and then the Dinkelbach algorithm (DA) is used to convert fractional programming into an equivalent solvable form in the subproblem. A standard optimization solver is utilized to deal with the complexity of the master problem for binary variables. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm is used to solve the subproblem for the continuous variables. Our proposed algorithm provides a suboptimal solution, and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves better EE than baselines.

We introduce a high-quality and large-scale Vietnamese-English parallel dataset of 3.02M sentence pairs, which is 2.9M pairs larger than the benchmark Vietnamese-English machine translation corpus IWSLT15. We conduct experiments comparing strong neural baselines and well-known automatic translation engines on our dataset and find that in both automatic and human evaluations: the best performance is obtained by fine-tuning the pre-trained sequence-to-sequence denoising auto-encoder mBART. To our best knowledge, this is the first large-scale Vietnamese-English machine translation study. We hope our publicly available dataset and study can serve as a starting point for future research and applications on Vietnamese-English machine translation., Comment: To appear in Proceedings of EMNLP 2021 (main conference). In this paper, we present a 5.8 GHz radio-frequency (RF) wireless power transfer (WPT) system that consists of 64 transmit antennas and 16 receive antennas. Unlike the inductive or resonant coupling-based near-field WPT, RF WPT has a great advantage in powering low-power internet of things (IoT) devices with its capability of long-range wireless power transfer. We also propose a beam scanning algorithm that can effectively transfer the power no matter whether the receiver is located in the radiative near-field zone or far-field zone. The proposed beam scanning algorithm is verified with a real-life WPT testbed implemented by ourselves. By experiments, we confirm that the implemented 5.8 GHz RF WPT system is able to transfer 3.67 mW at a distance of 25 meters with the proposed beam scanning algorithm. Moreover, the results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively cover radiative near-field region differently from the conventional scanning schemes which are designed under the assumption of the far-field WPT.
