- Abstract
Paranormal tourism is one of the types of tourism that has developed worldwide in recent years, especially in the UK and the USA. However, despite the diversity of paranormal beliefs and areas, Turkey is not yet a developed country in this field. From this viewpoint, the study aims to determine Turkey's paranormal tourism potential and draw attention to the concept of paranormal tourism. In the study conducted within the scope of document analysis, one of the qualitative research techniques, social content platforms, news sites, etc. on the internet were examined. A descriptive analysis of the content offered on the platforms was conducted. Within the scope of descriptive analysis, three themes were determined: prominent provinces, paranormal story type, and destination planning. The findings showed that there is at least one paranormal destination candidate in every geographical region of Turkey and a total of 24 destinations can be developed. Marmara (14 destinations) on a regional basis and Istanbul (9 destinations) on a provincial basis stand out in terms of the number of paranormal areas. Regarding the paranormal story type, it was determined that 11 of the detected destinations contained a mysterious event, 7 contained a jinn story, 5 contained a spirit/fairy story, and 1 contained a creature story. Within the scope of destination planning, it has been determined that Istanbul with its nine destinations is in an advantageous position. In addition, some abandoned villages in various parts of Turkey may also be considered priority areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The underdevelopment of tourism infrastructure remains a critical barrier to the growth of the tourism sector in both the capital and regional areas. This article examines the concept and structure of tourism infrastructure, synthesizes methodological approaches for its evaluation, and identifies the strengths and limitations of these approaches. The study introduces a novel methodology for assessing the development of tourism infrastructure in the capital city. Based on the assessment, the city's regions are categorized into four levels of infrastructure development: high, above average, average, and below average. The findings highlight the key factors driving tourism development and the obstacles limiting infrastructure progress, while also proposing strategic directions for its enhancement. Achieving optimal levels of infrastructure provision is identified as a crucial condition for advancing the tourism sector. The development of tourism infrastructure should be prioritized in regional economic policy. In line with the state's "Concept for the Development of the Tourism Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2023–2029", this study emphasizes the need for a streamlined and precise classification of tourism infrastructure components based on a comprehensive framework. The evaluation is conducted using an integrated indicator that captures the development level of key elements: accommodation infrastructure, international event venues, and access to leisure and entertainment. Additionally, the article provides a comparative analysis of the current state of tourism infrastructure relative to the early stages of the capital's development and tracks the dynamics of tourism indicators from 2010 to 2024. Several interrelated challenges affecting infrastructure growth have been identified. Notably, the study reveals that hosting international events and forums has significantly boosted inbound tourism compared to regional averages in Kazakhstan, although it has also constrained the potential for tourism business growth in other regions. The practical insights derived from this study offer a comprehensive understanding of the state of tourism infrastructure in Astana, which can inform future research and policy development for tourism infrastructure in major urban areas. Ohrid is an important tourist destination in North Macedonia. Ohrid City is located on the coast of Ohrid Lake. Tourism in Ohrid is not well-developed because of inadequate financial and cultural promotion. Especially, outdoor tourism depends on climate. Using the bioclimatic (thermal) comfort conditions, the true tourism potential of a destination can be evaluated. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the tourism potential of Ohrid by implementing the thermal comfort index. THI was applied for the determination of bioclimatic comfort. Five years (2019-2023) of meteorological data was downloaded from the Visual Crossing website. Monthly average THI scores were calculated. As a result, four different THI classes were revealed: cold, cool, comfortable, and hot. June - September period is determined as the most comfortable season for tourism. Local and governmental authorities, businesses in the tourism sector, and tour operators can use these results for the development of tourism in Ohrid. Seasons and activities may be organized according to the bioclimatic comfort levels. The development of tourism in a region also contributes to international tourism marketing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mangrove Sari Tourism Village is an ecotourism community located in Brebes Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. The establishment of this tourist village originated from the collective effort of the Pandansari Hamlet community to combat coastal erosion by planting mangrove, eventually transforming the area into the tourist destination. The objective of this study was to assess the capacity of the local community in developing community-based ecotourism and leveraging the ecosystem services of the mangrove forest. To achieve this objective, a qualitative descriptive method was employed, encompassing various research techniques such as observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and literature review. The study's finding revealed the following key point: (1) The local community exhibited significant potential (with a score of 34) for the development of Mangrove Sari ecotourism, as assessed based on the parameters of attractions, activities, accessibility, and amenities. (2) The resident of Kaliwlingi Village has actively embraced the concept of community-based ecotourism in managing Mangrove Sari, emphasizing the involvement and participation of the local community. (3) The existence of the mangrove forest ecosystem in Pandansari Hamlet has provided both physical and social environmental services to the community, falling into four categories: service provisioning, regulating, cultural, and supporting services. The article delves into the development of a comprehensive concept for the sustainable development of regions characterized by intensive environmental management. This concept is rooted in the interplay of several key factors, including the environmental component, social attractiveness, and infrastructural accessibility. By meticulously analyzing these factors and juxtaposing them with the geographical distribution of recreational facilities, the authors propose the innovative concept of a recreational and functional zone. This concept aims to harmonize environmental, economic, and social considerations to foster sustainable development. In this study, particular attention is given to three districts within the steppe zone of the Aktobe region, which are notable for their high levels of economic development and intensive environmental management practices. The analysis encompasses a thorough examination of the ecological, economic, and sociological dimensions of these areas. The authors explore the intricate dynamics between these components to understand the challenges and opportunities they present for sustainable regional development. Building on this analysis, the article offers specific recommendations and strategies designed to optimize environmental management practices. These recommendations are not only aimed at mitigating potential environmental impacts but also at enhancing the development of recreational areas as a pivotal element of the region's sustainable development strategy. The authors argue that such an approach is crucial for ensuring the long-term viability and resilience of the region, balancing economic growth with the preservation of its natural and social environments.

Objective: to develop and test the method of estimating a tourism potential of regions, the method of comparing them with public ratings of regions; to diagnose problem areas of management when forming the regional market of tourist services and justify recommendations for its development. Methods: general scientific and general logical methods, analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization; statistical and correlation analysis. Results: the paper presents the author’s method of constructing summary estimates of the regions’ tourism potential, integrating official statistical indicators. Due to the introduction of dimensionless relative values, the difficulties of accounting for different-sized indicators were resolved. The obtained estimates were used to form an objective idea of the strength of the regions’ tourism potential, to compare them, to assess the opportunities and determine the prospects for tourism development in the region. Since one of the obstacles in solving this task is low public ratings, it is important to be able to compare them with objective assessments. For this purpose, we have developed and tested a method of comparing the summary estimates of the regions’ tourism potential with their ratings, in particular, with the values of the National Tourism Rating – 2022. As a result, by the example of Orel region, the disproportions were revealed that indicate the inefficient use of the region’s tourism potential. Based on the analysis of the regional strategies implementation, programs and practices of tourism organization and problem areas of management, recommendations are formulated, the implementation of which guarantees the economic development of the region and tourism sphere. Scientific novelty: the method of constructing summary estimates of the regions’ tourism potential is developed; the method of comparing the summary estimates of tourism potential with public ratings of regions is proposed and tested. The disproportions in assessments and ratings are substantiated quantitatively. The problem areas of management in the formation of the regional tourist services market are diagnosed; recommendations for its development are given. Practical significance: the study results can be used by business entities and authorities to formulate strategies and programs of regional development; the presented method of comparing the tourism potential and ratings of regions can be used in scientific, pedagogical and research activities.

- Abstract
This paper contributes to the research into the sustainable development of tourism. It analyses large-scale protected areas (one national park, four landscape parks, two protected landscape areas) located in the Roztocze region, at the SE border of Poland, which are most exposed to tourist movement overload due to their attractiveness. The study presents a proposal for a research procedure based on the method of multidimensional comparative analysis, which facilitates interpretation of the state of tourism function by calculation of the values of indicators of tourism potential and function. The result of the study is a model. It shows that with the exception of the National Park, the current state of tourism can be described as sustainable in most of the analysed areas. In addition to their scientific value, the results obtained may have a practical dimension, as they indicate specific factors causing the loss of balance in the environment, which should be monitored or addressed by stakeholders (government, local authorities, entrepreneurs, local communities), leading to the maintenance of sustainable tourism development in a specific area. The procedure proposed in the study can be applied to any other naturally and culturally valuable area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Sumbersawit Village is located on the slopes of Mount Lawu and has a natural panorama that can be a promising tourism potential. The village government has ideas for the development of village tourism, but until now it has not been able to develop well due to the lack of resources and the role of actors in the development of village tourism. The method used in this research is descriptive exploratory which aims to describe a phenomenon and describe chronologically the data and facts in the field. The data obtained is then processed using the triangulation method. This technique analyzes data from various data sources, including observation data, interviews, and secondary data. The use of this analysis technique aims to combine all data in order to produce a precise and comprehensive conclusion. The results of the research show that Sumbersawit Village has the potential of an agritourism village which is divided into 3 areas namely Growong, Sawit and Miri. The results of potential mapping can be used as a reference in the development of a tourist village master plan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Characterize the world scientific literature of the last decade (2012-2022) on the assessment of tourism potential and analyze the methodologies used in such studies. Methodology: A Quantitative Systematic Literature Review (SQLR) was carried out, which, through the stages of identification, review and filtering and selection and analysis, 83 articles that addressed the topic were reviewed. Results: The assessment of tourism potential was identified as a multidisciplinary topic of growing global interest, with a quantitative methodological approach and the comprehensive use of environmental, social, cultural and economic criteria to carry out the assessments. However, although the long-term objective was to detonate sustainable tourism projects in the territories through its research, the inclusion of local populations in global research was scarce. Limitations: The study only considers publications from the Scopus database. Conclusions: The current methodological trend of the topic is perceived as lacking in considering the long-term objective of promoting the philosophy of sustainable tourism, but at the same time it does not identify local populations as the main tourism managers. The assessment of the ecological quality of the environment in El Kala National Park plays an important role in the protection and management of its tourist potential in the face of ecological constraints that have arisen. The present study is based on the use of remote sensing data; its main objective is to analyze the ecological quality in a protected area using the remote sensing ecological index which is based on the calculation of vegetation indices based on Landsat images taken in 2013 and 2023. This observation period shows that the values of drought, temperature, and humidity in the study area increased while the greenness values decreased. The RSEI index was calculated using principal component analysis of the fourth indicators (NDVI, WET, NDBSI, and LST) which made it possible to quantitatively analyze, monitor, and dynamically evaluate changes in the ecological quality of the environment in this park over the past 10 years. The results obtained show that the spatio-temporal distribution of the ecological quality of the environment of the park experienced a downward trend from 2013 to 2023 with a regression rate of -10.16% for the classes of good and excellent quality ecological. This study is considered a reference for the formulation of measures aimed at protecting the quality of the environment in El Kala National Park, and also a database to determine monitoring indicators for sites characterized by significant tourism potential. 26. The Tourism and Recreation Potential of the Region: Essence and Factors of Influence

tourism potential ,destination ,factors of tourism potential ,tourism resources ,tourism services ,Business ,HF5001-6182 - Abstract
The article examines the category of «tourism potential of the region» and the factors that influence it. It has been found that most of the authors consider the phenomenon of tourism potential primarily through the prism of resource provision of the region (destination), and the rest of the uncontrolled factors of the macro-environment remain unattended. It is substantiated that the concepts of «tourism potential of the region» and «tourism potential of destination» are identical in content. It is noted that the study of factors and the need to model their impact on the economic potential of the destination stems from the fact that the latter acts as an object of investment policy at the micro-, meso- and macro-levels. It is identified that in connection with the mass translation of foreign literature, the scientific views of the Anglo-Saxon scientific space had a predominant influence on the domestic economic theory in the field of tourism, while the theoretical conceptions of tourism economics of researchers from continental Europe were insufficiently studied by domestic scientists. The expediency of interpreting the term «tourism potential of the region» not as a set of factors of resource provision of the destination, but as a certain property of the tourism system is substantiated. Otherwise, the concepts of «tourism potential of the region» and «tourism resources of the region» are identical. The authors suggest to interpret the tourism potential as the ability of a destination to form and implement a certain amount of tourism services and material goods that will be in demand and meet the needs of tourists and vacationers. The expediency of using the term «tourism product» as a set of existing and newly created public goods suitable for meeting the needs of tourists and visitors of the destination is substantiated. At this, the destination with its resource provision generates a tourism product, acting in the market as a supplying party. The expediency of differentiating the management system at the level of destination into strategic and operational components is substantiated: in the subsystem of strategic management of the destination, the tourism potential of the region acts as a target parameter, and in the subsystem of operational management it is the volume of the tourism product. It is noted that the level of tourism potential is determined by four factors: an aggregate of elements of supply on the part of the destination; current demand for travel services of the destination; competitive environment and expected trends in the development of tourism.

- Abstract
The study aims to determine heritage tourism potential in the Kashmir valley, a developing region, to lower the impact of mass tourism on the natural environment. The potential was assessed using criterion‐based indicators. After a Delphi survey, Content Validation Ratio determined indicator retention. Field trips and secondary sources identified the sites. The sites with cultural significance were prioritized with other supporting factors. The Weighted Sum Method assessed the heritage site potential. It was calculated for each criterion: Cultural, Physical, and Natural. Then, total potential was classified into three groups on the basis of equal intervals depicting high, medium, and low, where high ranges from 0.628 to 0.756, medium from 0.502 to 0.628, and low from 0.375 to 0.502. Being the capital city and hub of different activities, Srinagar district of the study area has maximum of the sites with high heritage potential. Owing to its long history, the study region has many heritage sites; however, its tourism potential has yet to be tapped. The study emphasizes the significance of shifting surges in tourism forms in managing sustainable tourism development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TOURISM , *TOURIST attractions , *DECISION making , *DATA modeling , *PRODUCT design - Abstract
The assessment of tourism potential allows delimiting the attractiveness of tourism destinations, constituting the basis for the design of tourism products and experiences. To date, several studies have been conducted to measure destination attractiveness from a synthetic approach. However, there are still drawbacks to be overcome, such as the non-standardization of data and the modeling of static determinants, which presupposes a disadvantage when facing new research schemes immersed in big data. The present research aims to develop a generalized model for assessing destination attractiveness and standardizing the quantification of tourism potential, through the development of a flexible, standardized and bounded synthetic index, which will be useful for tourism agents, tourism planning and decision making. An application of the proposed model was carried out in the historic center of Santiago de Cuba concluding that this destination has a high tourism potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of the cultural landscape elements in the urban area of Bistrita determines clear tourist values that refer to the attractiveness of both natural elements and that of cultural ones. This study highlights the specific natural environment, the churches and other buildings that have a characteristic function, belonging to different historical periods, starting from the Middle Ages. All of these benefit from an appropriate infrastructure that favors tourist access and capitalization, currently to a modest extent, but which as a whole can constitute the basis of a new integrated development strategy of the city. Thus, the study reveals both the analysis of the elements with real tourist values, as well as the main objectives to be achieved for the subsequent development of the area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the state of the tourism potential of domestic tourism under conditions of martial law in Ukraine. The relevance of the study is determined by the important role of domestic tourism in the economic development of the country, preservation of cultural and natural resources, strengthening of social identity, and national consciousness of the population. General scientific methods of cognition, such as induction and deduction, association and analogy, analysis, and synthesis, were employed for the research. The study revealed that due to the russian invasion, certain peculiarities in the functioning of domestic tourism have emerged. These include an increase in the popularity of health, rehabilitation, and psychological tours, as well as a preference for booking tours «for tomorrow», shorter travel durations, changing demands on tourism establishments, a shift in the profile of domestic tourists, and a reduction in the size of tourist groups. Analysis of these features indicates that even in times of war, people continue to travel within Ukraine, which contributes to the development of domestic tourism. However, the development of domestic tourism faces a range of challenges, such as military actions within the country, significant loss of tourist and recreational resources, destruction of tourism infrastructure, disruptions in logistics on the territory of Ukraine, ecocide, nuclear terrorism, legal vulnerability of domestic travelers, and lack of regulation in the field of accommodation and tour guide services. In the short-term perspective, the article proposes several measures to address these problems: ensuring safety on the territory of Ukraine by providing information about potential risks and warning tourists about dangerous areas, creating and implementing a marketing strategy for domestic tourism, adopting the Ukrainian Law «On Tourism» in accordance with the EU Directive, and developing economic maps with special economic zones for the reconstruction of tourist infrastructure. The practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of utilizing the obtained results by government authorities for the development of domestic tourism in Ukraine. - Abstract
Assessing the tourism potential of mountain destinations is crucial for successful and sustainable tourism planning. Tourism potential indicates the development and success of tourism in various regions and destinations. The present study deals with the mathematical model evaluation of the tourism potential of the north-western Himalayas. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the tourism potential of the two Himalayan destinations through a comparative study using a quantitative approach. The model employs the weighted sum method (WSM) to calculate potential tourism values. A simple random sampling technique with a structured questionnaire (
N = 440) was used to accomplish the research objective. The results indicate that Sonamarg, with a value of (V = 0.630), has a medium, while Doodhpathri, with a value of (V = 0.398), has a low potential. Overall, the findings determine the significance of enhancing the tourist infrastructure and quality of service, strengthening ties with other tourism sites, and broadening tourism offerings to augment the allure of destinations and pave the way for a more diversified and thriving tourism industry. Unlocking the hidden potential of these destinations requires a holistic approach that considers the destination’s unique natural, cultural, and social aspects while promoting sustainable tourism. The article is devoted to the study of the tourism potential of Mindoro Island in the Philippines. The total area of Mindoro Island, which is in the Luzon islands group, is 10571.8 km2 and the total population of the island is 1,4 million. Mindoro, the seventh largest island in the Philippines, is a mountainous and rugged island. The Mindoro Island, situated in the triangle formed by Luzon, Palawan and Panay islands, is one of the most visited and most popular tourism centers of the Philippines. In this study, the geographical location, natural and human geographical features of the island of Mindoro, as well as the tourist attractions and tourism advantages are briefly discussed. The main purpose of the study is to acquaint a wide range of readers with tourism resources, tourism potential, natural and cultural tourist attractions of Mindoro Island and offer new options for recreation for curious tourists. The paper provides a multivariate analysis of tourism on the island by discussing the tourism advantages and disadvantages of Mindoro Island. As a result of the study, the authors have prepared a useful tourist guide for foreign tourists who will visit the island. It was revealed that Mindoro Island is not as big as Luzon, it is not as crowded as Mindanao, it does not have as many luxurious tourist spots as Boracay, and it cannot be said that it is a famou s tourist destination like Palawan Island. However, this tropical island attracts thousands of holidaymakers from all over the world every year due to its unique natural beauty and breathtaking tourist attractions. Mindoro Island can offer an alternati ve travel option, an exciting travel itinerary and an interesting travel destination for every curious tourist 365 days a year.

- Abstract
The Student Engagement in Village Development Program (PMMD) stands as a significant initiative undertaken at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology, with a keen focus on the development of Pantai Seraya. Situated on Sepinggan Raya I Street, RT 28, Sepinggan Subdistrict, South Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan, Pantai Seraya embodies a captivating potential for natural tourism that appeals to the residents of Balikpapan. However, this promising potential is hindered by the lack of necessary facilities and infrastructure to deliver a satisfying tourist experience. The lack of visitor interest stems from this very condition. In this context, we strongly propose an urgent solution involving the construction of essential facilities, including seating arrangements, illumination, and waste disposal units at Pantai Seraya. The primary objective is to elevate the comfort of visitors. Nevertheless, sustainability also takes center stage in this development. With an expected increase in visits over time, preserving the cleanliness of the beach and its surroundings becomes paramount. This action will not only ensure a positive tourism experience but will also safeguard the coastal ecosystem for the long term. Consequently, Pantai Seraya is envisioned to emerge as a premier destination in Balikpapan, offering both economic and ecological benefits, creating livelihood opportunities for the local community, and fostering awareness regarding the necessity of maintaining beach cleanliness among tourists and local residents. Mapping tourism potential and tourist attractions in tourist villages need to be done as non-physical accessibility or information for visiting tourists. Kertayasa Tourism Village currently has a general mapping of its regional potentials and does not yet have a map of the thematic distribution of potential and tourist attractions. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to inventory and map the tourism potential and existing tourist attractions. This type of research uses participatory action research that emphasizes collaborative actors and researchers to increase community knowledge. Informants in this study were selected by purposive snowball sampling by first selecting key informants, namely community leaders such as LPMD Kertayasa, the Head of Kertayasa Village, and BUMDES Guha Bau. The data analysis technique used is the descriptive qualitative analysis technique. The results showed that the natural and biological potential of Kertayasa Tourism Village consisted of two natural potentials that could be developed such as the Guha Bau and Merjan Dams, seven cultural potentials, three natural tourist attractions with the main natural tourist attraction being the Green Canyon, and three cultural tourist attractions with the main cultural tourism attraction is Saung Angklung Mang Koko. The existing tourism potential and attractiveness are spread across five hamlets out of a total of seven existing hamlets. The focus of the development of the Kertayasa Tourism Village is still on the two hamlets which are the main tourist attraction points of Green Canyon. So that in the future there needs to be tourism product innovation that can later spread tourist travel patterns in the tourist village. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The Baltic macroregion is one of the developed and dynamic (albeit with difficulties typical for 2020–2023) growing tourism regions that attract the attention of researchers. However, as a whole, and, in particular, in comparative geographical terms, it has not been sufficiently studied in depth. The article assesses the territorial features of the level and dynamics of tourism development in this macroregion. To assess the existing differences, the study used comparable data from Rosstat and Eurostat, as well as information from literary sources. An assessment of the level of tourism development and its specific territorial features is given as of 2019, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which interrupted the dynamic development of tourism infrastructure and the increase in tourist flows in all countries. Baltic macroregion countries, as well as the Baltic regions of Russia, Germany and Poland, were grouped according to the level and dynamics of tourism development. It was revealed that the rich natural and cultural–historical potential of the Baltic territories of Baltic region countries has led to a positive dynamics in the development of tourism infrastructure as a whole and tourist flows, including from domestic tourism. The changes that have taken place in 2020–2021 are briefly characterized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research was motivated by the declining condition of tourism in Indonesia due to Covid-19, but it has the potential to develop further. Therefore, this study aims to describe the prospect and strategies for developing tourism during COVID- 19. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods by taking the case of tourism in Sukabumi Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected by observation and in-depth interviews by taking government and community leaders as key informants. Furthermore, informants who understand tourism development were selected through purposive and snowballing sampling techniques: related government (n=7) and the community (n=20). Data was also collected in focus group discussions to identify problems through swot analysis and formulate tourism development strategies. The study results show data that during the Covid-19 pandemic, tourism potential has increased in variety and innovation due to encouragement from the government and community efforts to independently develop their area as a tourist attraction when tourist visits are closed. The recommendation of this research is to make a grand design strategy for tourism development, developing and strengthening tourism institutions at the government and community levels, infrastructure development, and sustainable collaborative management.
