The Hokuriku area of Japan includes Ishikawa Prefecture. One of the challenges facing Ishikawa's tourism is increasing the number of visitors from other nations. It should be important to provide “language service” to international tourists in order to tackle this problem. In order to understand the state of language service to foreign tourists, this study investigates what linguistic characteristics can be found in English guidebooks for Kanazawa, the capital city of Ishikawa, and Toyama, which is also in Hokuriku, and compares them to the official guidebooks published by the Japan National Tourist Organization for Tokyo, Fuji, Kyoto, and Hida. In summary, a C++ software is used to explore the frequency characteristics of character and word appearance. An exponential function is used to approximate these qualities. To determine the difficulty level and K-characteristic of each content, the percentage of Japanese junior high school necessary vocabulary and American basic vocabulary are computed. As a result, it is obvious that English guidebooks for Hokuriku have a similar trend in terms of character-appearance to literary texts.Furthermore, the K-characteristic values for them are high, and the difficulty level, particularly for Kanazawa, is low.

The advancement of business management in the United States is intimately linked to the development of computers and network systems. There have been numerous management books published in English. If enough knowledge of the features of English in the field is acquired beforehand, reading of the texts will become easier. In this paper, several English books on management and computers are investigated to compare them in terms of metrical linguistics. In summary, a C++ programme is used to explore the frequency characteristics of character and word appearance. An exponential function is used to approximate these qualities. To determine the difficulty level and K-characteristic of each content, the percentage of Japanese junior high school necessary vocabulary and American basic vocabulary is computed.

A carefully created linguistic program is used to assess the writing styles of TIME and Newsweek. Because of their widespread popularity, these two news magazines are chosen. The findings revealed that the frequency curves for words and characters have remained unchanged for the previous 60 years. It was also discovered that the frequency curves include specific inflection points that can be used to identify the genre of English works. Using fuzzy reasoning, the relative difficulty of the English writings may be determined by counting the percentage of required vocabulary for junior high and high school students in Japan. This paper is an experimental one which aims to seek a clue to estimate the degree of difficulty by applying fuzzy rules to the frequency data. The features of the characteristic curves are used to create fuzzy rules. It would be a useful index to use while choosing textbooks or supplemental readers.

A system called “environmentology” has recently been attempted to address environmental issues. In order to study environmentology, reading materials in English is considered to be indispensable. In this paper, several English books on environmentology are investigated and compared to journalism in terms of metrical linguistics. In short, a C++ programme is used to investigate the frequency characteristics of character- and word-appearance. An exponential function is used to approximate these characteristics. In addition, to determine the difficulty level and K-characteristic of each material, the percentage of Japanese junior high school required vocabulary and American basic vocabulary is calculated. As a result, it is clearly demonstrated that English resources for environmentology have a similar tendency to literary writings in terms of character-appearance. Furthermore, the K-characteristic values for the materials on environmentology are high, and some books are more difficult than TIME magazine.

According to the White Paper on Tourism for 2020, before the outbreak of COVID-19, 20.08 million Japanese people traveled abroad, and 31.88 million foreigners came to Japan for sightseeing in 2019. It can be said that it had been the time of sightseeing. The knowledge of tourism has become more and more important, and reading materials in English has been indispensable. In this paper, several English books on tourism are investigated, compared with journalism in terms of metrical linguistics. In short, frequency characteristics of character- and word-appearance are investigated using a program written in C++. An exponential function is used to approximate these attributes. Furthermore, the percentage of Japanese junior high school required vocabulary and American basic vocabulary is calculated to obtain the difficulty-level as well as the K-characteristic of each material. As a result, it is obvious that English materials for tourism have a similar trend in terms of character-appearance to literary writings. Furthermore, the K-characteristic values for tourism materials are high, and older publications with a higher specialty are more difficult to read than journalism. Moreover, as a whole, the book whose publication year is the newest has characteristics close to those for journalism.

Preventive medicine has attracted much attention due to increase of medical expenses in Japan. As a preventive measurement against diseases, this paper presents a system for predicting three types of moods namely, good, normal, and bad using biological and weather information. Specifically, we focus on analyzing factors for the predictions. Evaluation experiments demonstrate that the proposed system predicts the tomorrow's mood with 73% accuracy by learning biological information, weather information, and moods in the past with multiple classifiers. Moreover, we found that body fat, maximal pressure, and amount of insolation are important factors for the prediction. The evaluation experiments indicate that the proposed system is useful for the prevention of bipolar disorder and lifestyle diseases.

In Japanese rural areas, there are various types of decreasing trends in customer number of public transportation due to the falling birth rate and the aging. Especially, the trend for route bus is of particular note even though it is close to the inhabitants. Reduction of the transportation-fee surplus in bus operating company is continuing and the local government supports it. On the other hand, the number of people who are unable to go shopping will increase more if the bus service could become impossible. The number of people who are unable to visit a clinic will also increase by decreasing the number of the service. It will be difficult to continue the func tion of community as the workforce decreases due to the acceleration of demographic aging. In this study, the advantages and the rate of utilization of route bus were examined in Yamanaka Spa area which belongs to Kaga City in Japan. The paintings are displayed on the bus and those are painted by kindergartners in the area. Those bestow a healing power on the passengers, especially elderly persons. As a result, most passenger use the bus in the morning and daytime, and the purpose is shopping and hospital (clinic) visit. About 50 % of passengers are taking the bus once weekly and over. The passenger of 86% evaluated the painting show as “good”. It became obvious that the painting show played a part to create good ambience for the passengers. Most workers use own private vehicle because the last bus closes between 7 and 8 p.m. in the area.

An “interview” is more specific way of talking, and it is the technique to gain the particular data effectively which the interviewer wants to know through the conversation. In this paper, English interviews: Larry King Live on CNN were metrically analyzed. Larry King Live is one of the CNN’s highest-rated shows, and Mr. King is regarded as the first American talk show host to have a worldwide audience. For comparison, English news materials from CNN Live Today as well as the inaugural addresses of the three U.S. Presidents were analyzed. In short, frequency characteristics of character- and word-appearance were investigated with a program written in C++. In this analysis, an approximate equation of an exponential function [y = c * exp(-bx)] was used to educe the characteristics of each material. Moreover, to obtain the difficulty-level, the percentage of the American basic vocabulary as well as the value of K-characteristic was calculated. As a result, it was clearly shown that the interviews have the same tendency as English journalism in character-appearance. Moreover, it was shown quantitatively that the interviews are a little easier to listen than CNN news.

In Hokuriku district, economic efficiency is improved according to the stated operation of Hokuriku Shinkansen. However, there are some variations in the effect each area. It is necessary to utilize the effect into a future tourism strategy by indicating the effects. In this experiment, the effect is evaluated using the characteristics of the lodger number in nine spa areas of Hokuriku district. As a result, there is a larger effect as an area is near to a Shinkansen station and the increasing rate is over 30%. Other areas except Wajima area have the rates of 15 to 20%. The one for Wajima area is 33%. It keeps at a distance from Kanazawa which is the nearby station of Wajima area. Popular NHK television-drama (title is “Mare”) was televised for end of March to September 2015 (half-year). Wajima area was the filming site. It is estimated that there is an effect over 10% as the filmed site. There is a large effect by connecting Hokuriku with Tokyo area by Shinkansen (high speed railway).
