After the 2008 global economic crisis, there has been an attention on decoupling conditions between emerging and advanced economies in the economic literature. There have been different conclusions about decoupling. In this study, we analyzed the conditions decoupling China and India from the United States. We used the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach for the period of 1960-2014. According to the results of the analysis, the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), export, and import indicators have no long-term relationship with China’s and India’s GDP.

In order to examine the long-term relationship between capital goods importation and minimum wage, autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to the cointegration is used in the study. According to bounds test results, a cointegration relation exists between the capital goods importation and the minimum wage. Therefore an ARDL(4,0) model is estimated in order to determine the long and short term relations between variables. According to the empirical analysis, there is a positive and significant relationship between the capital goods importation and the minimum wage in Turkey in the long term. A 1% increase in the minimum wage leads to a 0.8% increase in the capital goods importation in the long term. The result is similar for short term coefficients. The relationship observed in the long term is preserved in short term, though in a lower level. In terms of error correction model, it can be concluded that error correction mechanism works as the error correction term is negative and significant. Short term deviations might be resolved with the error correction mechanism in the long term. Accordingly, approximately 75% of any deviation from equilibrium which might arise in the previous six month period will be resolved in the current six month period. This means that returning to long term equilibrium progresses rapidly.

- Abstract
Background: Postoperative delirium is a common distressing symptom experienced following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The study aimed to investigate the influence of a low preoperative Mini-Cog testing score and 2 different anesthesia methods: total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) versus sevoflurane, on postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy., Methods: A total of 84 patients over 60 years old who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy between March 1and - October 1 2023 were included in the study. Patients with a Mini-Cog score of 0-2 were considered to have low and possibly impaired neurocognitive function. We invastigated the effects of preoperative Mini-Cog score and the two anesthesia methods used on the incidence of postoperative delirium., Results: The proportion of patients with low Mini-Cog score in the preoperative period was 17.9%. Sevoflurane and TIVA was used in 41 and 43 patients respectively. The incidence of postoperative delirium in patients with low preoperative Mini-Cog scores was 66.7% at postoperative 0 h and 33.3% at the 1st hours. Postoperative delirium was found to be statistically higher in patients with low Mini-cog scores than in those with negatively-screened for Mini-cog scores (p: 0.01-0.035). In patients using sevoflurane, the incidence of postoperative delirium was 26.8% and 24.4% at the 0 and 1st hours, respectively. This was found to be statistically higher than in patients receiving TIVA (p: 0.036 - 0.010)., Conclusion: Low Mini-Cog score was an indicator of a higher risk of early postoperative delirium. Sevoflurane is more likely to cause postoperative delirium than TIVA., Trial Registration: The study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (Identifier: NCT06597812) ., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

- Abstract
Purpose: Over the last two decades, the use of robotic surgery in cardiac procedures has become increasingly prevalent. Typically, assessments of patient outcomes for robot-assisted surgery concentrate on patient morbidity and mortality, surgical complications, and length of hospital stay. However, there is limited research on patients' perceptions of robot-assisted surgery. Therefore, this study aims to determine the experiences of patients undergoing robot-assisted cardiac surgery., Design: The study used a qualitative design., Methods: The study was conducted with 12 patients who underwent robot-assisted heart surgery at an educational and research hospital. Ethical approval and written informed consent were obtained before the study., Findings: 66.7% of the participants were male with an average age of 38.25 ± 16.06 years. The analysis of qualitative data identified three themes: Robotic surgery, Post-Surgical Experience, and Homecoming., Conclusions: Patients expressed satisfaction with robotic surgery and recommended it to others undergoing surgery. Based on the findings, we may suggest that nurses may conduct personalized education programs about robotic surgery and develop programs to follow up with patients at home., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest None to report., (Copyright © 2024 The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses. - Abstract
Background/aim: This study aims to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Amblyopia and Strabismus Questionnaire (AandSQ) that is translated into Turkish., Materials and Methods: This is a methodological study. A total of 149 patients took part in the survey research between December 2012 and June 2014 in an university hospital, and 37 were retested. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used for the questionnaire's reliability analysis., Results: Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the subscales of fear of losing the better eye, distance estimation, visual disorientation, double vision, and social contact and appearance were found to be 0.80, 0.88, 0.95, 0.80, and 0.81, respectively. Five factors determined by the exploratory factor analysis explained 69.87% of the total variance., Conclusion: The Turkish version of the AandSQ is found as a reliable and valid scale for analyzing Turkish society. The AandSQ might be helpful for measuring quality of life in patients with strabismus.

- Abstract
Background: The objectives of educational instruction on the rational use of medication are to teach students about frequent pharmaceutical applications, dosage calculations, observation of adverse side effects and patient training. A simulation project was used in nursing education/medical staff education to effectively gain knowledge and skills., Objectives: In this study, our first aim was to investigate the effect of using a simulated patient as a teaching method on the performance of students in medication administration. Our second aim was to explore the students' views on the simulated patient teaching method in terms of the skills acquired in administering medication., Design: The study was designed and carried out as a quasi-experimental investigation in Turkey between September 2011 and December 2011., Participants: The participants in the study were senior nursing students at a nursing school in Turkey. The data from eighty-five nursing students were obtained both at pretest and posttest. The views of all eighty-two students regarding a course on the rational use of medications were taken into consideration. Simulated patients were used throughout the entire course., Setting: An objectively constructed evaluation form (OCEF) was administered both at pretest and posttest to obtain participant feedback on a course on the rational use of medication. Descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test were used in the data analyses., Result: The mean pre-test score on the evaluation form was 24.02 ± 16.06, whereas the mean post-test score was 54.28 ± 14.54. Therefore, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean pre- and post-test scores (p<0.01; t=14.35)., Conclusion: The use of a simulated patient in a course on the rational use of medication proved effective. Furthermore, the students gave positive feedback regarding the use of the simulated patient as a teaching method., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.)

- Abstract
Objective: To assess the possible applicability of comet assay in the evaluation of DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation. The alkaline comet assay or single-cell gel electrophoresis has been used as a standard method for measuring and analyzing DNA damage., Study Design: Peripheral blood samples were collected from papillary thyroid cancer patients who received 131I by oral administration. Blood samples were taken just before the treatment, on the first day of treatment, and 1 week posttreatment. To determine the radiation-induced DNA damage, alkaline comet assay was performed., Results: It was found that significantly high levels of DNA damage occurred in first day samples when compared to control samples according to tail moment measurements. Also, a decrease in the level of damage was observed in the 1-week samples., Conclusion: Our observations and data confirmed that treatment with 131I for papilloma thyroid cancer can cause DNA damage in circulating lymphocytes, and the comet assay seemed suitable to assess the effect of radioactive iodine for the patients.
