Homogeneous solar fuels photocatalytic systems often require several additives in solution with the catalyst to operate, such as a photosensitizer (PS), Brønsted acid/base, and a sacrificial electron donor (SED). Tertiary amines, in particular triethylamine (TEA) and triethanolamine (TEOA), are ubiquitously deployed in photocatalysis applications as SEDs and are capable of reductively quenching the PS's excited state. Upon oxidation, TEA and TEOA form TEA•+ and TEOA•+ radical cations, respectively, which decay by proton transfer to generate redox non-innocent transient radicals, TEA• and TEOA•, respectively, with redox potentials that allow them to participate in an additional electron transfer step, thus resulting in net one-photon/two-electron donation. However, the properties of the TEA• and TEOA• radicals are not well understood, including their reducing powers and kinetics of electron transfer to catalysts. Herein, we have used both pulse radiolysis and laser flash photolysis to generate TEA• and TEOA• radicals in CH3CN, and combined with UV/Vis transient absorption and time-resolved mid-infrared spectroscopies, we have probed the kinetics of reduction of the well-established CO2 reduction photocatalyst, fac-ReCl(bpy)(CO)3 (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine), by these radicals [kTEA• = (4.4 ± 0.3) × 109 M−1 s−1 and kTEOA• = (9.3 ± 0.6) × 107 M−1 s−1]. The ∼50× smaller rate constant for TEOA• indicates, that in contrast to a previous assumption, TEA• is a more potent reductant than TEOA• (by ∼0.2 V, as estimated using the Marcus cross relation). This knowledge will aid in the design of photocatalytic systems involving SEDs. We also show that TEA can be a useful radiolytic solvent radical scavenger for pulse radiolysis experiments in CH3CN, effectively converting unwanted oxidizing radicals into useful reducing equivalents in the form of TEA• radicals. Earth abundant metal‐based heterogeneous catalysts with highly active and at the same time stable isolated metal sites constitute a key factor for the advancement of sustainable and cost‐effective chemical synthesis. In particular, the development of more practical, and durable iron‐based materials is of central interest for organic synthesis, especially for the preparation of chemical products related to life science applications. Here, we report the preparation of Fe‐single atom catalysts (Fe‐SACs) entrapped in N‐doped mesoporous carbon support with unprecedented potential in the preparation of different kinds of amines, which represent privileged class of organic compounds and find increasing application in daily life. The optimal Fe‐SACs allow for the reductive amination of a broad range of aldehydes and ketones with ammonia and amines to produce diverse primary, secondary, and tertiary amines including N‐methylated products as well as drugs, agrochemicals, and other biomolecules (amino acid esters and amides) utilizing green hydrogen. Small-molecule compounds that elicit mRNA-selective translation repression have attracted interest due to their potential for expansion of druggable space. However, only a limited number of examples have been reported to date. Here, we show that desmethyl desamino pateamine A (DMDA-PatA) represses translation in an mRNA-selective manner by clamping eIF4A, a DEAD-box RNA-binding protein, onto GNG motifs. By systematically comparing multiple eIF4A inhibitors by ribosome profiling, we found that DMDA-PatA has unique mRNA selectivity for translation repression. Unbiased Bind-n-Seq reveals that DMDA-PatA-targeted eIF4A exhibits a preference for GNG motifs in an ATP-independent manner. This unusual RNA binding sterically hinders scanning by 40S ribosomes. A combination of classical molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations, and the subsequent development of an inactive DMDA-PatA derivative reveals that the positive charge of the tertiary amine on the trienyl arm induces G selectivity. Moreover, we identified that DDX3, another DEAD-box protein, is an alternative DMDA-PatA target with the same effects on eIF4A. Our results provide an example of the sequence-selective anchoring of RNA-binding proteins and the mRNA-selective inhibition of protein synthesis by small-molecule compounds. Gas marbles are a new family of particle‐stabilized soft dispersed system with a soap bubble‐like air‐in‐water‐in‐air structure. Herein, stimulus‐responsive character is successfully introduced to a gas marble system for the first time using polymer particles carrying a poly(tertiary amine methacrylate) (pKa ≈7) steric stabilizer on their surfaces as a particulate stabilizer. The gas marbles exhibited long‐term stability when transferred onto the planar surface of liquid water, provided that the solution pH of the subphase is basic and neutral. In contrast, the use of acidic solutions led to immediate disintegration of the gas marbles, resulting in release of the inner gas. The critical minimum solution pH required for long‐term gas marble stability correlates closely with the known pKa value for the poly(tertiary amine methacrylate) stabilizer. The adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) has been identified as a therapeutic target for treating neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. In recent years, we have highlighted the 2-aminoquinazoline heterocycle as an promising scaffold for designing new A2AR antagonists, exemplified by 6-bromo-4-(furan-2-yl)quinazolin-2-amine 1 (Ki (hA2AR) = 20 nM). Here, we report the synthesis of new 2-aminoquinazoline derivatives with substitutions at the C6- and C7-positions, and the introduction of aminoalkyl chains containing tertiary amines at the C2-position to enhance antagonist activity and solubility properties. Compound 5m showed a high affinity for hA2AR with a Ki value of 5 nM and demonstrated antagonist activity with an IC50 of 6 µM in a cyclic AMP assay. Introducing aminopentylpiperidine and 4-[(piperidin-1-yl)methyl]aniline substituents maintained the binding affinities (9x, Ki = 21 nM; 10d, Ki = 15 nM) and functional antagonist activities (9x, IC50 = 9 µM; 10d, IC50 = 5 µM) of the synthesized compounds while improving solubility. Porous polymer beads with grafted poly(tertiary amine) were prepared by grafting triethylenetetramine to porous crosslinked poly(methyl acrylate) beads via ester amidation reaction, followed by Eschweiler–Clarke methylation reaction using formaldehyde and formic acid to converting the primary and secondary amine groups to tertiary amines in the beads. The tertiary amine groups in the beads were protonated with hydrochloric acid, hydrobromic acid or hydriodic acid, and the protonated tertiary amine group-containing beads showed high catalytic activity and high selectivity for the formation of propylene carbonate through cycloaddition of propylene oxide with CO2, while free tertiary amine group-containing beads exhibited almost no catalytic activity. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to investigate the photo‐induced copper‐catalyzed C−N coupling reaction for the synthesis of chiral tertiary amines. The ligands′ effects on the metal center and the factors determining regioselectivity in chiral tertiary amine formation were examined. The computational results revealed that the oxidative quenching process involved in the photocatalytic redox cycle via CuI‐CuI*‐CuII‐CuIII transitions. Throughout the reaction, four key processes occurred: C−Br bond activation, ligand exchange, amide ion/Br ion exchange, and C−N coupling. Among these steps, alkyl radical generation through single electron transfer was identified as the rate‐determining step with an energy barrier of 13.9 kcal/mol. The chelating diphosphine ligand improved copper's reducibility and its capacity to activate the C−Br bond by charge transfer when exposed to visible light (CT). Copper's own redox process was facilitated by interactions between diphosphine and diamine ligands. Finally, when combined with oxygen, this catalyst system formed a chiral plane CuII‐O1‐N1‐N2‐N3 essential for enantioselective product formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A dual zwitterionic diblock copolymer (M100C100) consisting of poly(2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC, M) and poly(3‐((2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl) dimethylammonio) propionate) (PCBMA, C) is synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. A double hydrophilic diblock copolymer (M100S100) consist of PMPC and anionic poly(3‐sulfopropyl methacrylate potassium salt) (PMPS, S) is synthesized via RAFT. The degrees of polymerization of each block are 100. The charges of PMPC are neutralized intramolecularly. At neutral pH, the charges in PCBMA are also neutralized intramolecularly due to its carboxybetaine structure. Under acidic conditions, PCBMA exhibits polycation behavior as the pendant carboxy groups become protonated, forming cationic tertiary amine groups. PMPS shows permanent anionic nature independent of pH. Charge neutralized mixture of cationic M100C100 and anionic M100S100 in acidic aqueous solution forms water‐soluble polyion complex (PIC) micelle owing to electrostatic attractive interactions. The core is composed of the cationic PCBMA and anionic PMPS blocks, with the PMPC blocks serving as shells that covered the core surface, forming spherical core–shell PIC micelles. Above pH 4 the pendant carboxy groups in PCBMA undergo deprotonation, transitioning to a zwitterionic state, thereby eliminating the cationic charge in PCBMA. Chiral γ-keto sulfones are significant structures in both organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry. Although there are many choices for obtaining racemic forms, only a few enantioselective methods have been reported. We have developed a simple way for obtaining chiral γ-keto sulfones in moderate yields and moderate enantiomeric ratios. Readily available sulfinates were directly used as substrates that could be converted into sulfinic acids by treatment with boric acid. The bifunctional catalyst forms a chiral ion pair with the sulfinic acid and controls the enantioselectivity of the sulfonation through hydrogen bonding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from ship exhausts pose serious health and environmental concerns. Herein, the SO2 absorption and desorption characteristics of tertiary amines with different functional groups were explored under simulated ship exhaust gas conditions. Tertiary amines with electron‐donating groups had superior absorption performance to those with electron‐withdrawing groups, and highly polar absorbents exhibited enhanced SO2 absorption loading. Dimethylaniline (DMA) showed excellent desorption performance, outperforming other absorbents (amino acids, ionic liquids, and deep eutectic solvents) in terms of cyclic capacity. Gold allenylidene species have been seldom exploited as reactive intermediates in synthetically versatile catalytic reactions. By employing alkynylbenziodoxoles as the substrates and bifunctional WangPhos as the metal ligand, this work demonstrated ready catalytic access to these intermediates of general substitution patterns and their electrophilic reactivities at the γ‐carbon center with a diverse range of nucleophiles. The reaction is driven by the reductive decomposition of the benziodoxole moiety and achieves the replacement of a propargylic proton with an N/O/C‐based nucleophile, hence realizing reactivity umpolung. Corroborated by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, the reaction mechanism involves a mild propargylic deprotonation. In contrast to prior works employing a tertiary amine functionality, a weakly BrØnsted‐basic amide group in WangPhos is surprisingly effective in deprotonation at the propargylic position under a gold‐ligand cooperation regime. Chirality is an important aspect of nature, and numerous macroscopic methods have been developed to understand and control chirality. For the chiral tertiary amines, their flexible flipping process makes it possible to achieve high chiral controllability without bond formation and breaking. Here, we present a type of stable chiral singlemolecule devices formed by tertiary amines, using graphene-molecule-graphene single-molecule junctions. These single-molecule devices allow real-time, in situ, and long-time measurements of the flipping process of an individual chiral nitrogen center with high temporal resolution. Temperature- and bias voltage-dependent experiments, along with theoretical investigations, revealed diverse chiral intermediates, indicating the regulation of the flipping dynamics by energy-related factors. Angle-dependent measurements further demonstrated efficient enrichment of chiral states using linearly polarized light by a symmetry-related factor. This approach offers a reliable means for understanding the chirality's origin, elucidating microscopic chirality regulation mechanisms, and aiding in the design of effective drugs. Ruthenium nanoparticles stabilised by an amine‐modified Ordered Mesoporous Silica Immobilized Ionic Liquid (OMSIIL) are efficient catalysts for the partial reduction of nitrobenzene to hydrazobenzene with 100 % selectivity as well as the complete reduction to aniline. High selectivity for the partial reduction of nitrobenzene to hydrazobenzene was obtained when the reaction was conducted in ethanol with 0.5 mol% catalyst and NaBH4 as the hydrogen donor whereas aniline was obtained as the sole product in water when dimethylamine borane (DMAB) was used as the hydrogen donor. Interestingly, while a range of electron poor nitroarenes were reduced to the corresponding hydrazoarene with high selectivities and good conversions, nitroarenes substituted with electron donating groups resulted in complete reduction to the aniline. Composition‐time profiles suggest that reductions conducted in ethanol with sodium borohydride occur via the condensation pathway while those conducted in water using dimethylamine borane as the hydrogen source may well go via the direct pathway. This is the first example of the selective reduction of nitrobenzene to hydrazobenzene using a ruthenium nanoparticle‐based catalyst and the initial TOF of 320 mol nitrobenzene converted mol Ru−1 h−1 for the partial reduction of nitrobenzene to hydrazobenzene is markedly higher than previous literature reports. A study of the catalyst performance as a function of the surface modification revealed that each component has a direct and dramatic effect on the efficacy as RuNPs stabilised by COK‐12 modified with imidazolium‐based ionic liquid and a primary amine gave the highest conversion while selective removal of either component or replacement of the primary amine with a tertiary amine resulted in a marked reduction in efficiency. Nitrosamine compounds pose a significant concern as potential carcinogens, prompting heightened scrutiny from regulatory bodies, particularly regarding their presence in pharmaceuticals. The detection of unacceptable levels of N‐nitrosodiethylamine (NDMA) in ranitidine has led to widespread recalls, driving interest in alternative medications such as nizatidine, which shares a similar pharmacological class and is used to treat various gastrointestinal conditions. Despite fewer reports on NDMA levels in nizatidine, its structural similarity to ranitidine, characterized by a tertiary amine, underscores the potential for NDMA formation. Addressing the analytical challenges associated with nitrosamine detection, this study focuses on developing and validating an ultra‐high pressure liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC–MS/MS) method for quantifying NDMA in both nizatidine active pharmaceutical ingredients and tablet formulations. Method validation adheres to International Council for Harmonisation recommendations, with a demonstrated linear range of 0.25–100 ng/mL for NDMA, exhibiting excellent linearity (regression coefficient >0.999) and efficient recovery rates ranging from 95.98% to 109.57%. The method shows high sensitivity, with limits of detection and quantification of 0.25 and 0.5 ng/mL, respectively. The developed UHPLC–MS/MS method offers a simple, precise, accurate, and selective approach for monitoring NDMA levels in nizatidine formulations available in Australia, promising enhanced sensitivity and specificity with limits of quantification in the ppb and sub‐ppb ranges. This article presents a catalytic approach for site‐selective α‐C−H functionalization of N‐benzyl tetrahydroisoquinolines, which are important tertiary amine derivatives. Using iron salt as a catalyst, we have selectively functionalized carbon‐hydrogen bonds of tertiary amine molecules with diverse moieties, such as imidazopyridine, indoles, and phenylacetylenes. The method offers a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance, making it a valuable tool for the synthesis of complex molecules. A mechanism is also proposed based on control experiments, which explains the probable reason for selectivity. Arylation of ketimines is the most straightforward strategy for constructing chiral α‐tertiary amines, important structural motifs found in natural products and biologically active compounds. This comprehensive review highlights the achievements in the transition metal‐catalyzed and organocatalyzed asymmetric arylations of ketimines from the seminal report published in 2010 till November 2023. The review is divided into three chapters: (1) Arylation of diaryl ketimines, (2) Arylation of aryl‐alkyl and aryl‐acyl ketimines, and (3) Arylation of acyl‐alkyl and dialkyl ketimines. Each chapter is further divided into transition metal‐catalyzed reactions (grouped by individual metals) and organocatalyzed reactions. The covered literature includes emphasis on the advantages of the reported methodology, its scope and limitations, and the description of the transition state (where applicable). Described herein is a dirhodium(II)‐catalyzed silylation of propargyl esters with hydrosilanes, using tertiary amines as axial ligands. By adopting this strategy, a range of versatile and useful allenylsilanes can be achieved with good yields. This reaction not only represents a SN2′‐type silylation of the propargyl derivatives bearing a terminal alkyne moiety to synthesize allenylsilanes from simple hydrosilanes, but also represents a new application of dirhodium(II) complexes in catalytic transformation of carbon‐carbon triple bond. The highly functionalized allenylsilanes that are produced can be transformed into a series of synthetically useful organic molecules. In this reaction, an intriguing ON‐OFF effect of the amine ligand was observed. The reaction almost did not occur (OFF) without addition of Lewis base amine ligand. However, the reaction took place smoothly (ON) after addition of only catalytic amount of amine ligand. Detailed mechanistic studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the reactivity can be delicately improved by the use of tertiary amine. The fine‐tuning effect of the tertiary amine is crucial in the formation of the Rh−Si species via a concerted metalation deprotonation (CMD) mechanism and facilitating β‐oxygen elimination. With the growing significance of green chemistry in organic synthesis, electrochemical oxidation has seen rapid development. Compounds undergo oxidation–reduction reactions through electron transfer at the electrode surface. This article proposes the use of electrochemical methods to achieve cleavage of the benzyl C–N bond. This method selectively oxidatively cleaves the C–N bond without the need for metal catalysts or external oxidants. The new diiron(I) complexes [Fe2Cp2(μ‐CO){μ‐k3C,kN‐C(R1)C(R2)C(CN)NMe(R)}], 3 a–o (R=alkyl or 4‐C6H4OMe; R1=alkyl, aryl, ferrocenyl (Fc), thiophenyl, CO2Me or SiMe3; R2=H, Me or CO2Me) were synthesized in moderate to high yields from the thermal decarbonylation of the bis‐carbonyl precursors 2 a–o, and were structurally characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, and single crystal X‐ray diffraction in four cases. Electrochemical behavior of one complex was also investigated. Complexes 3 a–o comprise a highly functionalized, multisite amino‐(cyano)allylidene ligand, including metal coordination of a tertiary amine group. Selected complexes displayed negligible to moderate catalytic activity in CO2/propylene oxide coupling, working under ambient conditions. Additionally, they were investigated as catalysts for the conversion of benzaldehyde to the corresponding borate ester 6 a, using pinacolborane (HBpin) as the borylating agent. Most complexes achieved good conversions at room temperature with 1 % catalyst loading, and data highlight the significant influence of the multisite ligand substituents on the catalytic performance. Notably, complex 3 m (featuring R=4‐methoxyphenyl, R1=Fc, R2=H) displayed the highest activity and effectively catalyzed the hydroboration of various aldehydes and ketones. Since the discovery of the palladium/norbornene (Pd/NBE)‐catalyzed ortho amination in 2013, escaping the limitation of only yielding tertiary anilines has been a long‐standing challenge. Here, we describe that, by carefully choosing the phosphine ligand and NBE mediator, the installation of a N‐mono‐alkylamino group becomes feasible. The reaction tolerates a wide range of aryl iodide substrates and various N‐mono‐tertiary alkylamine‐derived electrophiles. Both ipso alkenylation and alkynylation can be realized. The synthetic utility of this method is exemplified by the formation of primary amino group via selective deprotection and streamlined access to N‐heterocycles. Preliminary success of installing a bulky N‐secondary alkylamino group and a mechanistic understanding of the decomposition pathways of mono N‐alkylamine electrophiles have been obtained. Highly regioselective C−H alkylation reactions of tertiary anilines and tertiary alkyl amines with simple alkenes have been achieved by the use of imidazolin‐2‐iminato scandium alkyl complexes. This protocol provided an efficient and atom‐economical route to structurally diverse tertiary amine derivatives. The basic ligand, a coordinating THF in the catalyst and the substitution of alkene substrates were found to switch the regioselectivity of the C−H alkylation reactions of tertiary anilines presumably due to the generation of different types of catalytically active species or the formation of relatively stable intermediates. On the basis of the deuterium labeling experiments and KIE experiments, possible catalytical cycles were provided to understand the reaction mechanism as well as the regioselectivity. We present a novel deoxygenation method for heterocyclic Noxides utilizing iodide as a catalyst. Iodide acts as a reducing catalyst that is regenerated by formic acid, which also serves as a Brønsted activator and solvent. The method demonstrates high efficiency and excellent selectivity in the reduction of a variety of heterocyclic N-oxides and tertiary amines. Our computational DFT investigation revealed that the reduction mechanism entails a direct interaction between iodide and the oxygen of the N-oxide within a Mg2+/formic acid framework, resulting in the formation of the N-heterocycle and the release of a hypoiodite unit. Additionally, a molecular mechanism for the regeneration of iodide from hypoiodite, facilitated by formic acid, is suggested. Non-aqueous absorbents (NAAs) have attracted increasing attention for CO 2 capture because of their great energy-saving potential. Primary diamines which can provide high CO 2 absorption loading are promising candidates for formulating NAAs but suffer disadvantages in regenerability. In this study, a promising strategy that using tertiary amines (TAs) as proton-transfer mediators was proposed to enhance the regenerability of an aminoethylethanolamine (AEEA, diamine)/dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) (A/D) NAA. Surprisingly, some employed TAs such as N,N -diethylaminoethanol (DEEA), N,N,N',N'',N'' -pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA), 3-dimethylamino-1-propanol (3DMA1P), and N,N -dimethylethanolamine (DMEA) enhanced not only the regenerability of the A/D NAA but also the CO 2 absorption performance. Specifically, the CO 2 absorption loading and cyclic loading were increased by about 12.7% and 15.5%–22.7%, respectively. The TA-enhanced CO 2 capture mechanism was comprehensively explored via nuclear magnetic resonance technique and quantum chemical calculations. During CO 2 absorption, the TA acted as an ultimate proton acceptor for AEEA-zwitterion and enabled more AEEA to form carbamate species (AEEACOO−) to store CO 2 , thus enhancing CO 2 absorption. For CO 2 desorption, the TA first provided protons directly to AEEACOO− as a proton donor; moreover, it functioned as a proton carrier and facilitated the low-energy step-wise proton transfer from protonated AEEA to AEEACOO−. Consequently, the presence of TA made it easier for AEEACOO− to obtain protons to decompose, resulting in enhanced CO 2 desorption. In a word, introducing the TA as a proton-transfer mediator into the A/D NAA enhanced both the CO 2 absorption performance and the regenerability, which was an efficient way to "kill two birds with one stone". Maintaining lipid asymmetry across membrane leaflets is critical for functions like vesicular traffic and organelle homeostasis. However, a lack of molecular‐level understanding of the mechanisms underlying membrane fission and fusion processes in synthetic systems precludes their development as artificial analogs. Here, we report asymmetry induction of a bilayer membrane formed by an extended π‐conjugated molecule with oxyalkylene side chains bearing terminal tertiary amine moieties (BA1) in water. Autogenous protonation of the tertiary amines in the periphery of the bilayer by water induces anisotropic curvature, resulting in membrane fission to form vesicles and can be monitored using time‐dependent spectroscopy and microscopy. Interestingly, upon loss of the induced asymmetry by extensive protonation using an organic acid restored bilayer membrane. The mechanism leading to the compositional asymmetry in the leaflet and curvature induction in the membrane is validated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Studies extended to control molecules having changes in hydrophilic (BA2) and hydrophobic (BA3) segments provide insight into the delicate nature of molecular scale interactions in the dynamic transformation of supramolecular structures. The synergic effect of hydrophobic interaction and the hydrated state of BA1 aggregates provide dynamicity and unusual stability. The monocarbonylation and dicarbonylation reactions are well-established reactions in carbonylation chemistry. A CoIII complex (2) of a bispyridine-dioxime ligand (H2LNMe2) containing a tertiary amine group in the proximity of the Co center is synthesized and characterized. One of the oxime protons of the ligand is deprotonated, and the amine group remains protonated in the solid-state structure of the CoII complex (2a). The acid–base properties of 2 showed pKa values of 5.9, 8.4, and 9.6, which are assigned to the dissociation of two consecutive oxime protons and amine protons, respectively. The electrocatalytic proton reduction of 2 was investigated in an aqueous phosphate buffer solution (PBS), revealing a catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at an Ecat/2 of −1.01 V vs. the SHE, with an overpotential of 673 mV and a kobs value of 2.6 × 103 s−1 at pH 7. For comparison, the HER of the Co complex (1) lacking the tert-amine group at the secondary sphere was investigated in PBS, which showed a kobs of 1.3 × 103 s−1 and an overpotential of 577 mV. At pH 4, however, 2 revealed a ∼3 times higher kobs value than 1, which suggests that the protonated amine group likely works as a proton relay site. Notably, no significant change in the reaction rate was observed at different pH values for 1, implying that oxime protons may not be involved in the intramolecular proton-coupled electron transfer reaction in the HER. The kobs values for Co complexes at pH 7.0 are significantly higher than those of the [Co(dmgH)2(pyridine)(Cl)] complex, implying that the primary coordination sphere around 1 or 2 enhances the HER and offers better catalyst stability in acidic buffer solutions. A photoredox catalytic aliphatic C(sp3)–H thiazolation of tertiary amines was developed, affording the biologically valuable alkylated thiazoles via the aminomethylation of sulfonylthiazoles. The reaction is metal and oxidant free, with a broad substrate scope that tolerates both aliphatic and aromatic amines. In this work, two structurally different monoamines (trimethylamine [TMA] and N‐methylpiperidine [N‐MPip]) are used for the amination of a g‐VBC‐15 graft copolymer, obtained by the functionalization of a mechanically robust, commercially available styrene–butadiene block copolymer (SB) with vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC) via solution free‐radical polymerization. Results demonstrate that g‐VBC‐15‐based membranes quaternized with TMA have superior electrochemical performance than N‐MPip counterparts; while, the mechanical properties are good and only slightly inferior to those of N‐MPip. Therefore, TMA is the selected monoamine to be alternatively mixed with two polyamines (tetramethyl‐1,3‐propanediamine [TMPDA] and N,N,N',N",N"‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine [PMDETA]) into different proportions, in order to modulate the average functionality of the amination mixture in terms of number of amine functional groups available for the quaternization reaction of the membranes. g‐VBC‐15‐based membranes derived therefrom are extensively characterized to assess their thermal, mechanical, and ex situ electrochemical properties. Results indicate that membranes quaternized with a TMA/PMDETA mixture (90:10 in mole) display the highest conductivity among all the investigated membranes aminated with polyamine‐based mixtures. A squaramide-based organocatalyst for asymmetric Michael reactions has been tested as a chiral solvating agent (CSA) for 26 carboxylic acids and camphorsulfonic acid, encompassing amino acid derivatives, mandelic acid, as well as some of its analogs, propionic acids like profens (ketoprofen and ibuprofen), butanoic acids and others. In many cases remarkably high enantiodifferentiations at 1H, 13C and 19F nuclei were observed. The interaction likely involves a proton transfer from the acidic substrates to the tertiary amine sites of the organocatalyst, thus allowing for pre-solubilization of the organocatalyst (when a chloroform solution of the substrate is employed) or the simultaneous solubilization of both the catalyst and the substrate. DOSY experiments were employed to evaluate whether the catalyst–substrate ionic adduct was a tight one or not. The study reports a tactic for superior antibacterial performance on cotton via synergism of complementary functionalities of quaternary ammonium salt and malonylurea-based N-chloramine combined in a silane. Knoevenagel Condensation between 4-(chloromethyl)benzaldehyde and malonylurea formed a product whose chloromethyl group was used to quaternize tertiary amine of N,N-dimethylethanolamine. The O − H of the quaternization product was subsequently alcoholyzed with Si − H of trimethoxysilane. The methoxysilyl groups of the alcoholysis silane were hydrolyzed to silanol ones that condensed with either their own kind or hydroxy groups of cellulose to polymerize into a crosslinked polysiloxane finishing on cotton. Upon chlorination of malonylurea-based N − H bonds, each repeating unit of the polysiloxane has one quaternary ammonium salt and two imide N-chloramine sites. Antibacterial assays against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli proved that the synergism of quaternary ammonium salt and N-chloramine, a higher efficacy and a broader spectrum arising from their complementary elimination mechanisms and physiochemical features. Biocidal stability and rechargeability of the polysiloxane finishing were both promising due to the robust and hydrophobicity of silicone backbone and the sturdy cyclic N-chloramine. A metal‐free N‐iodosuccinimde (NIS)/2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyloxy (TEMPO)‐promoted protocol was developed for the oxidative cyanation and nitro‐Mannich reaction of tertiary amines via a cross‐dehydrogenative coupling reaction under mild conditions. The upgrading of a benzyl-type alcohols was explored via an orthogonal tandem sequence comprised of a first oxidative step producing the corresponding aldehydes, and a subsequent reductive amination to achieve both secondary and tertiary amines. To the scope, acetonitrile (ACN) was used as a solvent and a source/precursor of reactant amines, and different heterogeneous catalysts based on Rh and Mo, were designed as mono- and bi-metallic systems in the form of metal nanoparticles dispersed on a chitinderived N-doped carbons. A parametric analysis carried out separately for the oxidation and the reductive amination allowed to choose the best performant catalyst for both the reactions of the tandem process. A one-pot two-step protocol was implemented accordingly: as an example, benzyl alcohol was quantitatively and selectively oxidised to benzaldehyde (>99%) which in turn, was converted to N-benzylethanamine (66%) or N-benzyl-N-ethylethanamine (60%) in the presence of [Rh(5%)-N/C--Mo (5%)]-N/C or [Rh(3%)-N/C--Mo(5%)]-N/C as catalysts, respectively. The tandem sequence proved successful also for other bio-based benzyl-type alcohols that afforded the corresponding secondary/tertiary amines in yields up to 53--93%. Overall, the study proved the viability of an innovative method aimed not only at process intensification for multistep synthesis, but also at the valorization of substrates (alcohols) and biopolymers (chitin) derived from biomass. On Earth and beyond, organic chemistry often occurs in the presence of water within environments that deviate drastically from ambient conditions (25 °C and 1 bar). Accurately predicting aqueous organic reaction pathways is crucial toward understanding planetary scale processes such as the cycling of elements crucial for life (e.g., carbon and nitrogen). Advanced thermodynamic modeling can be utilized to determine the favorability of various organic reactions based on geologically relevant ranges of temperature and pressure, as well as compositional variables (e.g., pH). However, data that would otherwise allow for a diversity of organic compounds and environmental conditions to be modeled are sparse and rarely tested with experiments, particularly with regard to organic-nitrogen compounds. In this work, we develop a framework to estimate thermodynamic properties at ambient conditions that can then be extrapolated across ranges of temperature and pressure for aqueous primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and aminiums (protonated amines), specifically those structures containing linear alkyl chains and benzyl functional groups. We also performed hydrothermal experiments (250 °C, ∼40 bar) involving reactions of methylamines to test our resulting thermodynamic models, and we compare our models for other alkylamines and benzylamines to previous empirical measurements from the literature. Specifically, we use existing thermodynamic data along with our estimates at ambient conditions in combination with a variety of existing extrapolation methods related to the revised Helgeson-Kirkham-Flowers (HKF) equations of state to generate temperature- and pressure-dependent predictions of acid dissociation constants (i.e., p K a values) that strongly agree with previous empirical measurements. We use similar methods to predict product distributions for reactions involving primary, secondary, and tertiary amines/aminiums, as well as ammonia/ammonium and corresponding alcohols whose collective distributions depend on reversible substitution reactions. Our predictions are in good agreement with our experimental results involving the methylamine reaction system as well as previous experiments involving the benzylamine reaction system, for which we also produced thermodynamic estimates involving benzyl alcohol. The agreement between independent theoretical predictions and experimental measurements suggests that our estimated properties can be applied to modeling amine chemistry in other experimental and natural aqueous systems that range in temperature and pressure, providing new tools for planetary exploration. The CO2 absorption–desorption performances of nonaqueous trisolvent blended amines, monoethanolamine (MEA), 2‐amino‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanol (AMP), methyl diethanol amine (MDEA), 1‐dimethyl amino‐2‐propanol (1DMA2P), diethyl ethanol amine (DEEA), and piperazine (PZ), are investigated in terms of desorption parameters. Two trisolvent amine combinations, primary amine (MEA)/sterically hindered amine (AMP) and tertiary amine (MDEA/1DMA2P/DEEA)‐polyamine (PZ), are prepared at 5 m total amine concentrations with different molarities. Response surface methodology based on a central composite design is used to obtain the optimal condition. This study aims to determine the molarity ratios of solvent systems and investigate their effects on objective functions: heat duty, desorption rate, and desorption factor. Surface analysis suggests optimum conditions as 3 m MEA–1.375 m MDEA–0.625 m PZ for the lowest energy consumption. The experimental results of the proposed system are compared with the 5 m MEA solution. Primary amines produced by selective catalytic hydrogenation of cyano compounds are widely used as basic chemicals, but due to the complexity of the hydrogenation mechanism and the inefficient mass transfer of the intermittent reaction, the process tends to produce secondary and tertiary amines as undesirable by‐products. In this research, a continuous hydrogenation system employing a micropacked‐bed reactor (μPBR) was established for the catalytic hydrogenation of 3‐ethylaminopropionitrile (3‐EAPN) to synthesize N‐ethyl‐1,3‐propanediamine (3‐EAPA). Under optimal experimental conditions using Raney cobalt as a catalyst, complete conversion of 3‐EAPN was achieved, and a high selectivity of 99.6 % for the primary amine (3‐EAPA) was obtained. On this basis, the system was extended with other cyano compounds of different structures as hydrogenation substrates, demonstrating the general applicability of this continuous hydrogenation system by using Raney cobalt as a catalyst in a μPBR for the hydrogenation of various nitriles. This study explores the stability of electrodeposited copper catalysts utilized in electrochemical CO2 reduction (ECR) across various amine media. The focus is on understanding the influence of different amine types, corrosion ramifications, and the efficacy of pulse ECR methodologies. Employing a suite of electrochemical techniques including potentiodynamic polarization, linear resistance polarization, cyclic voltammetry, and chronopotentiometry, the investigation reveals useful insights. The findings show that among the tested amines, CO2-rich monoethanolamine (MEA) exhibits the highest corrosion rate. However, in most cases, the rates remain within tolerable limits for ECR operations. Primary amines, notably monoethanolamine (MEA), show enhanced compatibility with ECR processes, attributable to their resistance against carbonate salt precipitation and sustained stability over extended durations. Conversely, tertiary amines such as methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) present challenges due to the formation of carbonate salts during ECR, impeding their effective utilization. This study highlights the effectiveness of pulse ECR strategies in stabilizing ECR. A noticeable shift in cathodic potential and reduced deposit formation on the catalyst surface through periodic oxidation underscores the efficacy of such strategies. Urethane acrylate hybrids are commonly used in polyurethane dispersions (PUD). PUDs are key ingredients in UV curing applications and UV curing is widely used in coatings and inks. The preparation of PUDs involves many volatiles in the form of solvents and reagents that are also carried over in the UV curing step. This article reports a process, which totally eliminates these volatile components and additionally introduces many flexibilities. The process involves acid-base interaction between tertiary amine containing polyurethane and acidic vinyl monomer like acrylic acid forming polyurethane-acrylate (PU-AA) hybrids in water. The developed process also overcomes the prepolymer and "endcapping" approaches used in the preparation of PUDs that restrict the molecular weight of polyurethanes. Simultaneously, because of the prevalence of large number of vinyl components in the polymer backbone through the acid-base interaction, it functions as a multifunctional acrylate similar to the reactive diluents used in UV curing applications. Thus, it helps to increase the cross-linking density of the UV cured substrates. In general, high crosslinking density helps to improve characteristics like hardness, scratch, solvent and stain resistance of coated substrates. The process has been demonstrated to form transparent and opaque coated substrates and cured inks. This development potentially helps to shift the process from an industrial activity to do-it-yourself domain and has implications for the development of components for 3D printing sustainably. The viscoelastic properties and structure of solutions of mixed wormlike micelles based on a zwitterionic surfactant, oleylamidopropyldimethylcarboxybetaine (OAPB), and positively charged oleylamidopropyldimethylamine (OAPA) have been studied at different ratios between the components. At a small fraction of the cationic surfactant, OAPA, the solution exhibits viscoelastic properties characteristic of semidiluted solutions of entangled wormlike micelles, the presence of which has been confirmed by cryogenic electron microscopy data. It has been found that, as the molar fraction of the charged surfactant increases to 0.1, the viscosity and relaxation time of the solutions decrease by a factor of three, and the values of the storage modulus remain unchanged at short stress action times. The studied surfactants have a similar structure; therefore, when replacing zwitterionic OAPB molecules by positively charged OAPA molecules, the main factor of variations in the properties and structure is the enhancement of the electrostatic repulsion on the micelle surface. It has been shown that this factor leads to a decrease in the average length of micelles and an increase in their number, which have a weak effect on the rheological properties of the system as long as the length of the micelles is larger than the length of the subchains in the network. With an increase in the molar fraction of OAPA from 0.1 to 0.5, the viscosity and relaxation time drop drastically by several orders of magnitude and the viscoelastic response of the solution is lost; i.e., the network is destroyed. This transition from a semidilute solution to a dilute one is explained by a decrease in the length of the wormlike micelles and the formation of spherical ones. Cryogenic electron microscopy images have confirmed the formation of a mixture of long and short wormlike micelles with spherical micelles at an OAPA molar fraction of 0.5. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solutions of α, β-unsaturated nitriles in ethyl acetate were hydrogenated selectively into the corresponding nitriles by using a recyclable catalyst, which consists of palladium nanoparticles entrapped in aluminum oxyhydroxide, Pd/AlO(OH) matrix. The reactions were conducted at room temperature and one atmosphere H2 pressure. Under identical reaction conditions just by changing solvent, reaction time and increasing catalyst amount the substrate α, β-unsaturated nitriles transformed selectively into tertiary amines. The catalyst can be reused for at least five runs without affecting activity and selectivity. The applicability of this methodology is demonstrated to variety of α, β-unsaturated nitriles. The review presents the results of the blood substitute development based on perfluororganic compounds (PFC). The limitations of PFC due to which their further development was suspended are described. The presented data allows us to imagine a possible way to create optimal drugs based on PFC. Chemically inactive perfluorocomponents should be used — perfluorinated hydrocarbons and tertiary perfluorinated amines. However, in order to emulsify and stabilize the emulsion, other types of effective and chemically indifferent surfactants that do not interact with oxygen and other components of the drug are needed. In this work, the kinetics study on the reaction between CO2 and tertiary amine catalyzed by zinc(II)‐1,4,8,11‐tetraazacyclotetradecane complexes (CM) and zinc(II)‐1,4,7,10‐tetraazacyclododecane complexes (CN) was carried out in a stopped‐flow device. The effects of the catalyst concentration, type of tertiary amines, and temperature on the reaction rate (ν) and catalytic activity (φ) were studied. It was found that the catalyst concentration, tertiary amine with higher pKa, and temperature had positive effects on ν. ν in N‐methyl diethanolamine solution with 10.0 mol m−3 CM and CN were 16.62 and 26.05 folds than the uncatalyzed ν at 298 K, respectively. φ increased with increasing catalyst concentration, decreasing temperature and tertiary amine's pKa. In addition, the kinetics behavior of tertiary amine‐CM/CN‐CO2 systems conformed to the Michaelis–Menten model. A silicone carrying combined functionalities of different mechanisms and physiochemical properties is synthesized as a strategy for faster and broader bacterial eliminations. Briefly, ring‐opening alcoholysis of succinic anhydride with 2‐dimethylaminoethanol and subsequent esterification of the alcoholysis product with 5‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)imidazolidine‐2,4‐dione produced a structure with one tertiary amine and two hydantoinyl NH bonds. The tertiary amine was quaternized with 3‐chloro‐1‐propanol whose OH was then alcoholyzed with SiH of poly(methylhydrosiloxane). The polymeric product was interpenetrated into cotton at 30 MPa and 50°C in supercritical CO2 and treated with tert‐butyl hypochlorite to chlorinate its hydantoinyl NH bonds, forming a 78 nm biocidal layer of silicone with quaternized hydantoin‐based N‐chloramines. Antibacterial tests showed that the quaternary ammonium salt and two hydantoin‐based N‐chloramines act synergistically due to their complementary features, killing both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli much more efficiently than each functionality. More importantly, the ratio of N‐chloramine to quaternary ammonium salt of 2:1 herein also provided higher efficacy than a reported counterpart with a 1:1 ratio. Biocidability of the modified cotton had promising stability and rechargeability, which indicates that supercritical interpenetration produced a durable interfacial layer without the necessity of chemical bonding. An unparalleled copper(I)-catalyzed synthesis of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles from tertiary amines in one step has been described. The one-pot reactions involving (N-isocyanimine)triphenylphosphorane, tertiary amines, and carboxylic acids resulted in the formation of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles in moderate to good yields through a consecutive oxidative Ugi/aza-Wittig reaction, enabling the direct functionalization of sp3 C-H bonds adjacent to the nitrogen atom. This method offered several notable advantages, including ligands-free, exceptional productivity and a high functional group tolerance. The complex, trichlorido(1,4,11-triaza-8-azoniatetracyclo[6.6.2.04,16.011,15]- hexadecane 1-oxide-κO)zinc(II) monohydrate, [ZnCl3(C12H23N4O)]⋅H2O, (I), has monoclinic symmetry (space group P21/n) at 120 K. The zinc(II) center adopts a slightly distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry and is coordinated by three chlorine atoms and the oxygen atom of the oxidized tertiary amine of the tetracycle. Atomically precise metal nanoclusters are increasingly exploited in electrocatalysis such as water electrolysis and CO2 reduction. The catalytic effects are generally evaluated by conventional electrochemical methods or end‐product analysis. Herein, near infrared electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of the nanoclusters is introduced as a new signaling mechanism to complement classical voltammetric analysis for elucidating essential electrocatalytic parameters. Coreactant ECL from an aqueous soluble Au22 nanocluster (NCs) enhanced by a common pH buffer materials 4‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)‐1‐piperazineethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) and by a piperazine drug hydroxyzine (HDZ) is studied under oxidative reduction pathways. Foot of the wave analysis on voltametric features and the kinetics profiles in potential‐step experiments are studied in different nanocluster and coreactant concentrations. Benchmark parameters such as rate constants are determined under EC (Electron‐transfer‐Chemical‐reaction) mechanism as feasibility validations. Because the luminescence properties of AuNCs are sensitive to the surface ligands or adsorbents, ECL is proposed as a new signal readout for operando studies providing insights for governing reaction mechanism and kinetics during catalytic reactions. Retrospectively, mechanistic understanding of the complex multi‐step reactions during ECL generation can provide guidance for the evaluation and optimization of ECL property for better quantitative applications.
