An accurate and efficient heat bath method plays a key role in atomic simulations of the thermal and mechanical properties of single-crystal silicon. Here, focusing on the single-crystal silicon (111) layer, which is a crucial lattice structure commonly employed as a substrate for chips, we propose a heat jet approach for finite temperature atomic simulations of silicon layers. First, we formulate the linearized dynamic equations for the silicon atoms and calculate the dispersion relation and lattice wave solutions. Then, an appropriate matching boundary condition is chosen for designing the two-way boundary condition, which allows incoming waves to inject into the lattice system while eliminating boundary reflections. Combining the two-way boundary condition and phonon heat source, the heat jet approach for the silicon (111) layer is proposed. Numerical tests illustrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the heat jet approach in simultaneously resolving thermal fluctuations and controlling temperature. Furthermore, we simulate the propagation of a Gaussian hump at a given temperature with the heat jet approach compared to the Nosé–Hoover heat bath. Numerical results demonstrate that the heat jet approach can well describe the movement of large structural deformations among thermal fluctuations without boundary reflections. We examine structural and magnetic properties of a series of La–Fe–Si alloys in the region of concentrations where they naturally form two-phase LaFeSi–LaFe13−xSix composites with variable content and connectivity of LaFe13−xSix grains distributed within the LaFeSi matrix. Theoretical calculations confirm that the LaFeSi constituent is magnetically and structurally inert below room temperature and at pressures between −10 and 10 GPa. The LaFe13−xSix constituent, on the other hand, is magnetically and structurally active: it exhibits first-order magnetostructural transformations that, in addition to xSi, can be controlled with temperature, magnetic field, and pressure. In composites where the concentration of the inactive constituent is ∼70 wt. % or greater, the standard, single-step, LaFe13−xSix first-order phase transformation proceeds in two steps separated by over 30 K in a zero magnetic field. Increasing the magnetic field recouples the two steps and restores the single-step phase transformation pathway. We analyze the roles of stresses caused by both thermal expansion mismatch and the first-order magnetic phase transition in LaFe13−xSix to rationalize the observed physical behaviors that emerge as the temperature or/and magnetic field vary. Thermoelectric coolers (TECs) offer a promising solution for direct cooling of local hotspots and active thermal management in advanced electronic systems. However, TECs present significant trade-offs among spatial cooling, heating, and power consumption. The optimization of TECs requires extensive simulations, which are impractical for managing actual systems with multiple hotspots under spatial and temporal variations. In this study, we present a novel machine learning-assisted optimization algorithm for thermoelectric coolers that can achieve global optimal temperature by individually controlling TEC units based on real-time multi-hotspot conditions across the entire domain. We train a convolutional neural network with a combination of the inception module and multi-task learning approach to comprehend the coupled thermal-electrical physics underlying the system and attain accurate predictions for both temperature and power consumption with and without TECs. Due to the intricate interaction among passive thermal gradient, Peltier effect and Joule effect, a local optimal TEC control experiences spatial temperature trade-off which may not lead to a global optimal solution. To address this issue, we develop a backtracking-based optimization algorithm using the machine learning model to iterate all possible TEC assignments for attaining global optimal solutions. For any m × n matrix with NHS hotspots (n, m ≤ 10, 1 ≤ NHS ≤ 20), our algorithm is capable of providing 52.4% peak temperature reduction and its corresponding TEC array control within an average of 1.64 s while iterating through tens of temperature predictions behind-the-scenes. Enhanced sampling algorithms are indispensable when working with highly disconnected multimodal distributions. An important application of these is the conformational exploration of particular internal degrees of freedom of molecular systems. However, despite the existence of many commonly used enhanced sampling algorithms to explore these internal motions, they often rely on system-dependent parameters, which negatively impact efficiency and reproducibility. Here, we present fully adaptive simulated tempering (FAST), a variation of the irreversible simulated tempering algorithm, which continuously optimizes the number, parameters, and weights of intermediate distributions to achieve maximally fast traversal over a space defined by the change in a predefined thermodynamic control variable such as temperature or an alchemical smoothing parameter. This work builds on a number of previously published methods, such as sequential Monte Carlo, and introduces a novel parameter optimization procedure that can, in principle, be used in any expanded ensemble algorithms. This method is validated by being applied on a number of different molecular systems with high torsional kinetic barriers. We also consider two different soft-core potentials during the interpolation procedure and compare their performance. We conclude that FAST is a highly efficient algorithm, which improves simulation reproducibility and can be successfully used in a variety of settings with the same initial hyperparameters. PtS2, a member of the group 10 transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), has received extensive attention because of its excellent electrical properties and air stability. However, there are few reports on the preparation of single-crystal PtS2 in the literature, and the growth mechanism of single crystal PtS2 is not well elucidated. In this work, we proposed a method of preparation that combines magnetron sputtering and chemical vapor transport to obtain monocrystalline PtS2 on a SiO2/Si substrate. By controlling the growth temperature and time, we have synthesized a single crystalline PtS2 of hexagonal shape and size of 1–2 μm on a silicon substrate. Combining the molecular dynamics simulation, the growth mechanism of single crystal PtS2 was investigated both experimentally and theoretically. We demonstrate modulation of insulator metal transition (IMT) of VO2 films grown on single crystalline substrates through the effect of in-plane compression with crystallization of capping chalcogenide layer on the targeted VO2 films. Chalcogenide germanium–antimony–telluride (Ge2Sb2Te5: GST), which shows large volume reduction of 6.8% with its phase change from amorphous to crystal, was deposited on VO2 films grown on Al2O3 (001) and TiO2 (001) substrates, where V–V atoms along the cR-axis in the tetragonal VO2 phase align parallel and perpendicular to the substrate surfaces, respectively. As a result, counter shifts in temperature-dependence of resistance characteristics, to lower and higher directions, were observed for VO2 films on Al2O3 (001) and TiO2 (001), consistent with the lattice modulation of VO2 films by the in-plane compression introduced by GST crystallization. Understanding and modulating the spin-pair correlation of conjugated polymer materials in π-conjugated polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) plays a crucial role in the development of their applications. We investigated the relationships between the internal hyperfine interactions (HFIs), triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA), and triplet–charge annihilation (TCA) spin evolution processes in π-conjugated PLED. Research has shown that in a unipolar π-conjugated PLED, the "M" shaped ultra-small magnetic field effect is due to the HFI between hole polarons and the spin-mixing process of charge carriers. Under high magnetic fields (15 mT<|B|<350 mT), the TCA process dominates the negative magneto-conductance (MC), and its intensity and sign are not controlled by temperature. In polar π-conjugated PLED, excess carriers can provide conditions for the generation of TCA. Moreover, π-conjugated polymers (emission layers) have relatively strong electron–phonon coupling, which can capture triplet excitons into adjacent organic layers to obtain higher triplet exciton concentrations, resulting in the TTA process. Under low-temperature conditions, excess carriers induce the magneto-electroluminescence (MEL) effect to undergo TTA and form P-type delayed fluorescence. Molecular dynamics simulations have been widely used in exploring the nucleation behavior of many systems, including gas hydrates. Gas hydrates are ice-like solids in which gas molecules are trapped in water cages. During hydrate formation, a considerable amount of heat is released, and previous work has reported that the choice of temperature control scheme may affect the behavior of hydrate formation. The origins of this effect have remained an open question. To address this question, extensive NVE simulations and thermostatted (NPT and NVT) simulations with different temperature coupling strengths have been performed and compared for systems where a water nanodroplet is immersed in a H2S liquid. Detailed analysis of the hydrate structures and their mechanisms of formation has been carried out. Slower nucleation rates in NVE simulations in comparison to NPT simulations have been observed in agreement with previous studies. Probability distributions for various temperature measures along with their spatial distributions have been examined. Interestingly, a comparison of these temperature distributions reveals a small yet noticeable difference in the widths of the distributions for water. The somewhat reduced fluctuations in the temperature for the water species in the NVE simulations appear to be responsible for reducing the hydrate nucleation rate. We further conjecture that the NVE-impeded nucleation rate may be the result of the finite size of the surroundings (here the liquid H2S portion of the system). To explore potential applications in classical and quantum information transfer, the hybrid systems between yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and cavities have been extensively studied, and four coupling regimes have been defined based on the relative strength between the coupling strength and dissipation rate of each subsystem. Achieving the control of magnon–photon coupling between nano-thick YIG films and cavities remains to be explored. We experimentally measure the microwave transmission spectra of a nano-thick yttrium iron garnet/gadolinium gallium garnet (YIG/GGG) film coupled to a superconducting cavity at different temperatures. The dissipation rate of the superconducting cavity increases significantly with decreasing temperature, which is influenced by the temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility of the GGG substrate. Accompanied by the temperature-dependent magnon dissipation rate, a continuous transformation of the coupled system in strong coupling, Purcell and weak coupling regimes is achieved. The use of high-power lasers to reach the high temperatures typical for off-normal conditions in nuclear reactor fuel or to determine its properties at high temperature is a relevant and proven technique in the nuclear research community. Conducting studies at high temperature with full control in space and time of the thermal gradients is, however, a challenge. In this paper, we present a combination of methodologies, experiments, and models to drive nuclear fuel samples in thermal conditions relevant to the study of nuclear fuel materials. Based on the use of high-power (kW) lasers with beam shaping and temporal laser control, our experimental approach allows one to heat depleted UO2 samples and obtain precise control of the temporal gradients, in the ms range, and spatial gradients, in the 100 μm range. The coupling with numerical simulations allows one to determine the temperature distribution in the depth of the sample and to develop a thermo-mechanical interpretation of the results. We will present the methodology allowing one to properly compare experimental and simulation results by taking into account the optical response of the instrumentation, the laser–UO2 interaction, and the resulting heat source term. We will show that we can express the heat source term resulting from the laser loading either by an analytical description or statistically based on Monte-Carlo simulation. A fairly good agreement between the recorded temperature and the simulation results is shown. The presented methodology can be extended to other materials with a proper choice of laser wavelength and instrumentation based on the optical properties of the investigated material. The electronically tunable differentiator using a voltage difference transconductance amplifier (VDTA) is proposed, designed, and analyzed. The simulation was done using the Cadence Virtuoso tool of 45 nm CMOS technology with a supply voltage of ±0.9 V. The maximum power consumption of the proposed circuit is 246 μ W with a total harmonic distortion of 5.4%. The output can be tuned using four parameters: g m 1 , g m 2 , R 1 , and R 2 . The transconductance can be varied using bias current and aspect ratio of CMOS transistors. The utilized area of VDTA layout is 1075.81 μ m2. The parasitic impedance affects the output of post-layout simulation and causes little delay compared to schematic. The design has been experimentally verified using LM13700 integrated circuit. The results of the proposed circuit show good agreement with the experimental results and mathematical expressions. The proposed circuit can be used as a tunable PD controller, in which the voltage gain of the proposed circuit is G PD = K p + S K d . The design is versatile and can be used in different applications such as temperature control systems, photo voltaic cells, waveform generators, microwave communications systems, and instrumentation systems. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting performance is conventionally limited by the process of photogenerated carrier separation and transport. This work provides an innovative strategy by combination of the spin-polarized electric field and homogeneous junction to address this critical issue. In this work, it finds that a spin-polarized electric field can be fabricated in the CdS photoanode with cubic phase by S vacancy intervention. Furthermore, after controlling the annealing temperature to reach 500 °C, cubic phase CdS photoanode translates to hexagonal phase by localized, forming a homogeneous junction CdS photoanode. By the synergy, the optimized CdS photoanode achieves a photocurrent density exceeding ∼5.0 mA/cm2 for hydrogen evolution under 100 mW/cm2 white light illumination, a 2.4-fold improvement over the performance of the unoptimized photoanodes. Thus, this work provides a novel method to regulation of the photogenerated carrier separation and transport processes for sulfur-based semiconductor photoelectrodes. Phase‐change textiles can achieve temperature regulation in variable ambient environments, however, augmenting the amounts of phase‐change materials (PCMs) in textiles remains a significant challenge due to the occurrence of leakage with higher amounts. Herein, a novel approach is proposed for the fabrication of a hierarchical nanofiber textile embedded with a substantial quantity of phase‐change microcapsules (PCMC) using electrospinning. Such nanofiber textile is composed of a polyvinylidene fluoride‐hexafluoropropylene fibers (PVDF‐HFP) layer and a polyvinyl butyral fibers doped with 60 wt% of PCMC (PVB/PCMC‐60) layer. Gratifyingly, doped PCMC shows no signs of rupture and exhibits excellent cycling stability. Furthermore, the incorporation of the PCMC does not affect the spectral characteristics of the PVDF‐HFP layer while providing a substantial enthalpy of fusion (92.6 J g−1) to the PVB/PCMC‐60 layer. This serves to compensate for the deficiency in radiative cooling capacity and effectively mitigates temperature fluctuations and overheating of the textile. Outdoor test results indicate that the nanofiber textile can achieve temperature drops of 3.7 and 14.8 °C compared to textile without the PCMC (namely PVDF‐HFP/PVB) and cotton, and attains a subambient temperature drop of 6.5 °C. In this study, we successfully synthesized three gallium oxide thin films on (0001)-faceted Al 2 O 3 substrates using hydrogen-reduced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) at different deposition temperatures, resulting in distinct morphologies and crystalline phases. These films consist of two pure-phase β-Ga 2 O 3 films and one mixed-phase film comprising both β- and ε-Ga 2 O 3 phases. The mixed-phase samples were subsequently annealed at high temperatures to obtain pure-phase β-Ga 2 O 3 thin films. Furthermore, by precisely controlling the growth temperature, we achieved in-situ formation of Ga 2 O 3 nanostructures (nanowires and nanoribbons) on the surface of the β-Ga 2 O 3 thin films. The presence of different dominant crystal planes in the samples was confirmed through X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) for verification purposes. In directly grown β-Ga 2 O 3 films, the (−201) plane emerged as the primary crystallographic plane, while both the (−201) and (401) planes dominated in β-Ga 2 O 3 films obtained via ε-Ga 2 O 3 film annealing. Raman spectroscopy findings further supported these observations regarding the crystalline phase of the films as observed through XRD analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images revealed distinct film morphologies resulting from variations in deposition temperatures. A flatter surface was observed when a higher proportion of ε-Ga 2 O 3 was present in the film, however, regular cracking occurred after annealing. Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) images demonstrated that at a deposition temperature of 800 °C, regular steps were present on the film's surface. Mixed-phase films exhibited hillock morphology that disappeared after annealing, leading to a decrease in the surface roughness in root mean square (RMS) value. By elevating the growth temperature, a significantly enhanced density of gallium oxide nanoribbons can be seamlessly integrated onto the film surface. The transferred nanoribbons exhibit an ultra-thin profile with a minimum thickness of merely 12 nm, rendering them more slender and economically advantageous in comparison to conventional mechanical stripping methods. This study presents a CVD-based approach for growing gallium oxide thin films with varying morphologies by employing temperature modulation and demonstrates an innovative one-step method for growing nanostructures on gallium oxide films in situ, providing valuable insights for future device development involving gallium oxide. In recent years, the shift towards single-crystalline Ni-rich LiNi x Co y Mn 1-x-y O 2 (NCM) cathode materials has intensified the focus on temperature regulation via the solid-state method, aiming to enhance electrochemical capacity and control crystal size. This study investigates how variations in crystal size, indicative of distinct lattice structures, affect lithium ion transport during the electrochemical charging/discharging cycle. Our findings reveal mechanical degradation in NCM samples correlating with increased sintering temperatures of LiOH·H 2 O and NCMOH precursors, as evidenced by nanoindentation tests measuring elastic modulus and hardness. Elevated sintering temperatures were observed to facilitate nucleation and crystal growth, albeit introducing oxygen vacancies potentially detrimental to the initial Coulombic Efficiency within the NCM lattice. This degradation in both mechanical and electrochemical properties underscores the critical impact of sintering temperature on structural integrity. Our systematic analysis provides essential insights into the interplay between structural characteristics and electrochemical performance, offering compelling evidence for the optimization of sintering temperatures in the preparation of NCM cathode materials. Bearings are common components used in the transmission system of tool machinery and linear drive equipment. With increasing demand for higher efficiency and faster production under the required accuracy, the control of bearing temperature rise under high operational speed becomes a critical issue. The improper control of temperature rise can lead to the thermal deformation and life reduction of the machinery. Conventionally, a circulating oil lubrication system is utilized with journal bearings. In this study, a similar lubrication system was adopted for the ball bearing with a retrofit design. Three control factors, i.e., rotational speed, bearing preload, and the viscosity of the lubricant used, were chosen to study their effects on the temperature performance of the proposed lubrication system. Experimental measurements showed that the lubrication system was able to lower the temperature rise of the bearing considerably compared with its unlubricated counterpart, especially at high rotational speeds. Even with the enhanced cooling from the oil circulation system, temperature rise still increased with rotational speed. However, with increased preload, the temperature rise first dropped and then increased owing to the different contact characteristics of the balls and rings of the bearing. A fitted function for the temperature rise of the bearing under different operational conditions was demonstrated to have a prediction accuracy within 3%. Acoustic holographic lenses (AHLs) show great potential as a straightforward, inexpensive, and reliable method of sound manipulation. These lenses store the phase and amplitude profile of the desired wavefront when illuminated by a single acoustic source to reconstruct ultrasound pressure fields, induce localized heating, and achieve temporal and spatial thermal effects in acousto-thermal materials like polymers. The ultrasonic energy is transmitted and focused by AHL from a transducer into a particular focal volume. It is then converted to heat by internal friction in the polymer chains, causing the temperature of the polymer to rise at the focus locations while having little to no effect elsewhere. This one-of-a-kind capability is made possible by the development of AHLs to make use of the translation of attenuated pressure fields into programmable heat patterns. However, the impact of acousto-thermal dynamics on the generation of AHLs is largely unexplored. We use a machine learning-assisted single inverse problem approach for rapid and efficient AHLs' design to generate thermal patterns. The process involves the conversion of thermal information into a holographic representation through the utilization of two latent functions: pressure phase and amplitude. Experimental verification is performed for pressure and thermal measurements. The volumetric acousto-thermal analyses of experimental samples are performed to offer a knowledge of the obtained pattern dynamics, as well as the applicability of holographic thermal mapping for precise volumetric temperature control. Finally, the proposed framework aims to provide a solid foundation for volumetric analysis of acousto-thermal patterns within thick samples and for assessing thermal changes with outer surface measurements. When decorated with plasmonic nanoparticles, pulled optical nanofibers are compatible with plasmonic techniques enabling the ability to probe microenvironments with high spatial and temporal resolution. Although the nanofibers exhibit excellent compatibility for biological samples including cells and tissues, the underlying interactions between the dielectric fiber, plasmonic nanoparticles, and the incident light have been minimally explored. It is shown that the complex coupling of optical and plasmonic properties within the nanofiber strongly influences both the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and photothermal capabilities. Through a combination of experimental results and simulated electric field distributions and spectra it is demonstrated that, although the nanofibers may be homogeneously decorated with gold nanoparticles, the optical effects spatially differ. Specifically, the SERS performance varies periodically based on the diameter of the nanofiber, which is associated with ring resonator modes, while the photothermal effects are more homogeneous over the same diameters, highlighting differences in optoplasmonic properties at this length scale. Through understanding these effects, it may become possible to control temperatures and SERS properties to evaluate processes with micrometric spatial resolution, such as the analytes secreted during temperature‐induced death of single cells. Human body temperature is a critical physiological indicator, reflecting metabolism and temperature regulation. Biomimetic temperature sensors with high temporal and spatial resolution are highly desired to emulate human skin's temperature perception capabilities. Here, a selective filtration method is proposed to fabricate a jointless p‐n thermoelectric module, integrating p‐type and n‐type materials with minimal interfacial barriers. The structure enables rapid response, minimal signal variation, and a robust linear relationship between open circuit voltage and temperature difference, making it suitable as a biomimetic thermoreceptor for enhancing humanoid robots with intelligent sensing capabilities. A smart thermoelectric sensing system with a high temporal and spatial resolution is developed using with jointless p‐n module as the sensing element. In temporal thermal sensing, the sensing system can timely and effectively identify the heat source, with a fast response time of <0.1 s. In addition, in spatial thermal sensing, the system reliably detects thermal stimuli within discrete regions of each measuring area of <1 × 1 cm2. Magnesium-based hydrogen storage has garnered significant attention in the field of hydrogen storage due to its notable advantages, including high hydrogen storage capacity and low material cost. However, the relatively high thermodynamic stability of magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials necessitates heating the material to a specific temperature during the hydrogen charging and discharging processes, severely limiting the practical application and further development of this technology.Therefore, this paper aims to design a temperature control system for a magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage bottle. The system employs an optimized particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to determine PID parameters, enabling rapid preheating of the hydrogen storage bottle and maintaining a stable operating temperature. Furthermore, by incorporating an appropriate penalty function, the system effectively suppresses temperature overshoot, preventing adverse effects on hydrogen storage performance caused by transient high temperatures, thereby ensuring the safety and stability of the hydrogen storage process. As an essential influencing factor, there is a lack of comparison between constant temperatures (35, 55 and 65 °C) and gradient heating temperature (35 to 65 °C) on the H2 production regulation potential from lignocellulose-rich straw via high-solid anaerobic digestion (HS-AD). More importantly, the microbial mechanism of temperature regulating H2 accumulation needs to be investigated. Results: Constant 65 °C led to the lowest lignin residue (1.93%) and the maximum release of cellulose and hemicellulose, and the highest H2 production (26.01 mL/g VS). H2 production at 35 and 55 °C was only 14.56 and 24.13 mL/g VS, respectively. In order to further explore the potential of ultra-high temperature (65 °C), HS-AD was performed by gradient heating conditions (35 to 65 °C). However, compared to constant 65 °C, gradient heating conditions led to higher lignin residue (2.49%) and lower H2 production (13.53 mL/g VS) than gradient heating conditions (47.98%). In addition, metagenomic analysis showed the cellulose/hemicellulose hydrolyzing bacteria and genes (mainly Thermoclostridium, and xynA, xynB, abfA, bglB and xynD), H2-producing bacteria and related genes (mainly Thermoclostridium, and nifD, nifH and nifK), and microbial movement and metabolic functions were enriched at 65 °C. However, the enrichment of two-component systems under gradient heating conditions resulted in a lack of highly-enriched ultra-high-temperature cellulose/hemicellulose hydrolyzing genera and related genes but rather enriched H2 consumption genera and genes (mainly Acetivibrio, and hyaB and hyaA) resulting in a weaker H2 production. Conclusions: The lignin degradation process does not directly determine H2 accumulation, which was actually regulated by bacteria/genes contributing to H2 production/consumption. In addition, it is temperature that enhances the hydrolysis process of lignin rather than lignin-degrading enzymes, bacteria and genes by promoting microbial material transfer and metabolism. In terms of temperature, one of the key parameters of HS-AD for H2 production, we developed an important regulatory strategy, enriched the theoretical basis of temperature regulation for H2 production to further expanded the research horizon in this field. Ocean oxygen content is decreasing with global change. A major challenge for modelling future declines in oxygen concentration is our lack of knowledge of the natural variability associated with marine oxygen inventory on interannual and multidecadal timescales. Here, we present 10 annually resolved 200 year-long records of denitrification, a marker of deoxygenation, from a varved sedimentary archive in the North Pacific oxygen minimum zone covering key periods over the last glacial–interglacial cycle. Spectral analyses on these records reveal strong signals at periodicities typical of today's Atlantic multidecadal oscillation. Modern subsurface circulation reanalyses regressed on the positive Atlantic and Pacific Climatic Oscillation indices further confirm that North Atlantic temperature patterns are the main control on the subsurface zonal circulation and therefore the most likely dominant driver of oxygen variability in the tropical Pacific. With currently increasing temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere high latitudes and North Atlantic, we suggest deoxygenation will intensify in the region. This study provides the longest annually resolved records of deoxygenation and productivity in the tropical Pacific and highlights the importance of North Atlantic climate oscillations on Pacific oxygen via its impact on the Pacific equatorial shallow overturning. Decentralized Point-of-Care (PoC) diagnostics hold momentous potential for rapid and accessible viral infection disease detection. Presented is a unique design application of an easy-to-use (plug-and-play) platform for viral detection. The platform leverages a simplified multiplex Reverse-Transcription Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) Lateral Flow Biosensor (LFB) assay with a lyophilized master mix, eliminating the need for RNA isolation or special reporting equipment. A user-friendly Saliva Measuring Tube (SMT) ensures accurate saliva volume self-collection, and a Syringe-based PoC (SPoC) platform automates sample treatment, reagent mixing, and temperature control using readily available components and consumables. The platform's performance was evaluated by multiplexed detection of the SARS-CoV-2 N2 target gene and human ACTB gene from saliva samples. The SPoC platform achieved a detection limit of spiked 500 copies/mL for SARS-CoV-2 and consistent internal control readout. Band structure of a semiconducting film critically determines the charge separation and transport efficiency. In antimony selenosulfide (Sb2(S,Se)3) solar cells, the hydrothermal method has achieved control of band gap width of Sb2(S,Se)3 thin film through tuning the atomic ratio of S/Se, resulting in an efficiency breakthrough towards 10 %. However, the obtained band structure exhibits an unfavorable gradient distribution in terms of carrier transport, which seriously impedes the device efficiency improvement. To solve this problem, here we develop a strategy by intentionally regulating hydrothermal temperature to control the chemical reaction kinetics between S and Se sources with Sb source. This approach enables the control over vertical distribution of S/Se atomic ratio in Sb2(S,Se)3 films, forming a favorable band structure which is conducive to carrier transport. Meanwhile, the adjusted element distribution not only ensures the uniformity of grain structure, but also increases the Se content of the films and suppress sulfur vacancy defects. Ultimately, the device delivers a high efficiency of 10.55 %, which is among the highest reported efficiency of Sb2(S,Se)3 solar cells. This study provides an effective strategy towards manipulating the element distribution in mixed‐anion compound films prepared by solution‐based method to optimize their optical and electrical properties. SUMMARY Photoperiod and temperature‐sensitive male sterility rice is an important line for two‐line hybrid rice, and the changes in the cultivation temperature strictly control its pollen fertility. However, the mechanism by which temperature variation regulates pollen fertility is still unclear. This study obtained stable fertile PA64S(F) and sterile PA64S(S) rice from PA64S by controlling temperature changes. PA64S(F) shows a normal anther development and fertile pollen under low temperature (21°C), and PA64S(S) shows delayed degradation of the tapetum cells, leading to abnormal pollen wall formation and ubisch development under normal temperature (28°C). The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) positively correlates with the programmed cell death (PCD) process of tapetum cells. The delayed accumulation of ROS in the PA64S(S) tapetum at early stages leads to a delayed initiation of the PCD process. Importantly, we localized ascorbic acid (ASA) accumulation in the tapetum cells and determined that ASA is a major antioxidant for ROS homeostasis. ROS‐inhibited accumulation plants (PA64S‐ASA) demonstrated pollen sterility, higher ASA and lower ROS accumulation in the tapetum, and the absence of PCD processes in the tapetum cell. Abnormal changes in the tapetum of PA64S(S) rice disrupted metabolic pathways such as lipid metabolism, cutin and wax synthesis, sugar accumulation, and phenylpropane, affecting pollen wall formation and substance accumulation, suggesting that the timely accumulation of ROS is critical for male fertility. This study highlights the central role of ROS homeostasis in fertility alteration and also provides an avenue to address the effect of environmental temperature changes on pollen fertility in rice. Organic phase change material is an ideal solution to solve the heat dissipation problem of electronic devices. However, its low thermal conductivity limits its application. To solve this problem, a new porous aluminum skeleton/paraffin composite phase change material (AS-PCM) was prepared. The effects of porosity and porous aluminum skeletons on temperature control performance were explored. The experimental results show that the addition of AS significantly improves the thermal conductivity of organic PCM, and the thermal conductivity of AS-PCM is 32.3–59.6 times higher than that of pure paraffin. In addition, the temperature difference in AS-PCM with 75% porosity is 1–2 °C lower than that of AS-PCM with 85%, and 5–8 °C lower than that of AS-PCM with 95% porosity. The skeleton structure has an impact on the temperature control performance. The Mcc porous aluminum skeleton/paraffin composite phase change material (MAS-PCM) yields the best thermal performance compared with the Fcc porous aluminum skeleton/paraffin composite phase change material (FAS-PCM). The temperature control time of the MAS-PCM heat sink is increased by 5.3–50.8% relative to the FAS-PCM heat sink. To evaluate the efficacy of a novel temperature control flexible ureteroscope system in the precise monitoring and control of intrarenal temperature (IRT) during ureteroscopy. We developed a novel temperature control flexible ureteroscope system (PT-Scope), including a temperature-monitoring ureteroscope and a irrigation-suction platform for temperature regulation. A porcine thermometry model was established to observe temperature changes under varying holmium laser powers (10, 20, 30 W) and irrigation rates (0, 20, 50 mL/min), utilizing percutaneous nephrostomy thermometry and PT-Scope measurements, with subsequent evaluation of temperature variations at different distances from the laser fiber tip. A porcine kidney stone model was established while porcine was randomly assigned to two groups: In the temperature control group, PT-Scope was connected to the irrigation-suction platform with temperature regulation, while in the nontemperature control group without temperature regulation. Comparative analysis was performed to evaluate differences in IRT between the two groups. Across various laser powers and irrigation rates, the temperature measurement capability of the PT-Scope was precise, demonstrating consistency with percutaneous nephrostomy temperature measurements. The temperature obtained from the PT-Scope reflect the temperature approximately 0.05 cm away from the fiber tip, whereas temperatures close to fiber tip were significantly higher. The peak temperature of the temperature control group vs nontemperature control group were 31.70 ± 2.609 °C and 44.37 ± 3.318 °C, respectively (P < 0.01). The mean temperature of the temperature control group vs nontemperature control group was 27.40 ± 2.107 °C vs 35.9 ± 1.921 °C (P < 0.01). SCADA systems play an important role in tracking the behaviour of critical process variables and connecting geographically dispersed subsystems at the industrial plant level. This article presents a PLC and SCADA-based control framework to automate and supervise the temperature control processes in the heat exchanger plant. The OMRON (NX1P2-9024DT1) PLC is interfaced with the Wonderware InTouch SCADA system to gather data, create a simulated temperature control prototype and carry out the necessary control operations within the heat exchanger plant. The PLC controls the entire process and programming of PLC is done using Sysmac studio automation software using the ladder programming language. The proposed system controls the temperature of the heat exchanger system through PID and Fractional Order PID (P I λ D μ ) controllers with Integral Anti-windup technique. Various control strategies like Cascade Control, Feedforward Control and Smith Predictor for time delayed process are discussed for controlling the temperature of the process. The performance of both PID and fractional order PID controllers is optimized using adaptive heuristic optimization techniques like Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). In control system design and analysis, the calculated performance indices are used as quantitative measures for evaluating the performance of a system. The combined form of temperature controller with Cascade control, Feedforward control and dead-time compensator is modelled and examined for simulation using MATLAB. Warming-induced carbon loss via ecosystem respiration (Re) is probably intensifying in the alpine grassland ecosystem of the Tibetan Plateau owing to more accelerated warming and the higher temperature sensitivity of Re (Q10). However-little is known about the patterns and controlling factors of Q10 on the plateau, impeding the comprehension of the intensity of terrestrial carbon–climate feedbacks for these sensitive and vulnerable ecosystems. Here, we synthesized and analyzed multiyear observations from 14 sites to systematically compare the spatiotemporal variations of Q10 values in diverse climate zones and ecosystems, and further explore the relationships between Q10 and environmental factors. Moreover, structural equation modeling was utilized to identify the direct and indirect factors predicting Q10 values during the annual, growing, and non-growing seasons. The results indicated that the estimated Q10 values were strongly dependent on temperature, generally, with the average Q10 during different time periods increasing with air temperature and soil temperature at different measurement depths (5 cm, 10 cm, 20 cm). The Q10 values differentiated among ecosystems and climatic zones, with warming-induced Q10 declines being stronger in colder regions than elsewhere based on spatial patterns. NDVI was the most cardinal factor in predicting annual Q10 values, significantly and positively correlated with Q10. Soil temperature (Ts) was identified as the other powerful predictor for Q10, and the negative Q10–Ts relationship demonstrates a larger terrestrial carbon loss potentiality in colder than in warmer regions in response to global warming. Note that the interpretations of the effect of soil moisture on Q10 were complicated, reflected in a significant positive relationship between Q10 and soil moisture during the growing season and a strong quadratic correlation between the two during the annual and non-growing season. Examining the thermodynamics of phase change materials (PCMs) when merged into construction materials is a significant subject within the realm of building science and environmental responsibility. When infused to construction materials like bricks, PCMs have the capacity to elevate a building's temperature regulation by minimizing the energy required for thermal contentment. This research is dedicated to learn about the thermal conduct and the consequences of the fusion of calcium chloride hexahydrate mineral (CCHPCM) within the pores of a masonry unit. To achieve this, we implemented a practical testing specifically designed to scrutinize how CCHPCMs alter the thermal performance of studied compounds. Multiple configurations were designed by adjusting the arrangement of CCHPCM within the bricks, resulting in three distinct setups. The first set involved filling one row of the bricks, the second set entailed filling two rows, and the final configuration entailed filling all the pores with PCM. Additionally, a computational modeling was executed to survey the thermic behavior of bricks infused with CCHPCM, operating with COMSOL Multiphysics application program. The elaborated work concluded to having an enhancement of the brick's thermal storage capacity, for Set-3, in which all rows of bricks are filled with PCM, a delay of 2 h is observed compared to Set-0 the brick without CCHPCM. This simulation also encompassed comparative findings regarding the thermal performance of CCHPCM when incorporated into the masonry unit. Overall, this study supplied the valorization of CCHPCMs infused in masonry units and their usage in distinct layouts on upgrading its candidature to achieving environmental responsibility. The present study reports the investigation of the influence of naphthalene–camphor binary solvent and the densification process on the pore structure formation of α‐alumina monoliths using the freeze‐casting technique with a freezing temperature control mechanism. Freeze‐casting technique allowed a controlled production of monoliths with high porosity (65%–70%) and distinct pore morphologies based on the adjustment of solvent composition (hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypereutectic) and sintering time. In general, the longer the sintering time, the greater the average pore diameter (8–10 µm), the larger the grain size (∼319–596 nm), the higher the material density (∼1450–1650 kg/m3), the lower the open porosity (∼60%–49%), the higher the closed porosity (5%–18%), and the greater the compressive strength of the monoliths (hypoeutectic: 23.56 MPa; eutectic: 4.81 MPa; hypereutectic: 23.49 MPa). The study also reveals that the solvent composition directly influenced the alignment of the pore structure, as the pores of the final monolith resemble frozen solvent crystals. Hydraulic tortuosity varied from 1.30 to 1.53 for selected samples. Finally, solvent composition and sintering time proved to be important parameters that should be considered in the manufacturing process of porous ceramic structures via freeze casting. In a classical chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process, the competing effects of chemical kinetics and reagent gas transport lead to non‐uniform depositions such that outer layers of a preform densify faster leaving the core highly porous. Currently, CVI must be performed at a sufficiently low temperature to achieve good densification quality which leads to high processing time and cost. Volumetric heating of the preform, especially through microwaves, can create temperature inversion such that the core is hotter than the outer surface and potentially, overcome the challenges associated with isothermal CVI. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of densification under various such temperature distributions indicate that microwave heating in CVI processing can lead to better (uniform) densification of porous preforms. The role of key parameters describing the temperature distributions on the densification behavior is investigated. Strategic temporal control of the temperature distribution shows that processing times can be reduced by almost half while maintaining a good densification quality similar to that of low‐temperature isothermal processing. The use of ordnance gelatine has been widespread in the field of ballistics as a simulant for soft tissue when assessing ballistic threats. However, the traditional method of preparing ordnance gelatine is time-consuming and requires precision to ensure that the final mold meets the required specifications. Furthermore, temperature control is necessary post-production, and there are limitations on its usage duration. To address these issues, manufacturers have developed pre-mixed, gelatine-like products that are stable at room temperature and require less preparation time. Nonetheless, it is uncertain whether these new products can perform in the same manner as the gold standard of ordnance gelatine. This study used five types of blocks, including ordnance gelatine (10% and 20%), Clear Ballistics (10% and 20%) and Perma-Gel (10%) and subjected them to 9 mm, 0.380 Auto fired from a universal receiver and a 5.56 × 45 mm ammunition fired by a certified firearms instructor. Delta-V and total energy dissipation were measured after each test using data collected from ballistic chronographs placed in front of and behind each block. High-speed video was recorded, and a cut-down analysis conducted. The findings revealed variations in energy dissipation and fissure formation within the block, with greater energy based on fissure formation observed in the ordnance gelatine. This study explores the effect of nanosilica (NS) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) in varied quantities (0%–5% NS and 0%–25% GGBFS) on the postfire mechanical and endurance characteristics of concrete at temperatures ranging from 200°C to 1,000°C. To examine bonding performance and structural endurance, a full range of experimental evaluations was methodically carried out, including bond strength evaluations, rapid chloride permeability, chloride attack tests, and water penetration testing. Advanced methods like scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to examine the postfire internal structure. The combination of NS and GGBFS in concrete compositions resulted in noticeable improvements in mechanical resilience and endurance. This was evident by increased bond strength (a notable 12% rise with 4% NS and 20% GGBFS), decreased chloride permeation (a significant 26% drop), and decreased water penetration (about 20% reduction). Interestingly, this optimum concrete mix performed well even at high temperatures, with modest performance improvements at 200°C–400°C but apparent structural deterioration at greater temperature levels. Nonetheless, the composite concrete was demonstrated to perform well at higher temperatures in contrast with control samples. Further, this research develops a reliable correlation for forecasting concrete performance under high heat circumstances as well as providing essential insights critical for the precise design of concrete buildings in extreme situations. An important issue to the earth's atmosphere is the volatilisation of elements such as selenium, from the burning of coal at different temperatures. In the current work, the volatilisation of selenium (Se) during combustion of coal samples at different control temperature range in an electrically controlled furnace was carried out. The coal samples were obtained from various coal fields of Sindh, Pakistan. The duplicate coal samples were combusted in controlled furnace by applying three temperature rounds (200°C, 400°C and 900°C). The ash formed following each temperature round was examined to know the volatilisation contents of Se after burning of coal samples at different temperature. The fractionation of Se in coal ash gained after combustion at 900°C was subjected to three-stage sequential extraction scheme (SES). The obtained data indicated that the total contents of Se in coal samples of block II of Thar coal field (TCF), and Site I and Site II of Lakhra coal field (LCF) were observed in the range of 7.72–14.3, 9.02–16.3 and 8.92–14.2 mg/kg, respectively. Precise control of room temperature for floor heating systems is a key step toward intelligent heating, which is of great significance in achieving thermal comfort and energy savings. Generally, the room temperature is controlled by thermostats that are placed on a wall, far away from the occupied zone. This may cause large temperature control deviation and cannot satisfy thermal comfort of the occupants. Based on the theory of the building thermal design, this study investigated the factors influencing the heating room temperature and temperature control deviation by combining a field experiment with a numerical simulation, providing a thermostat installation location strategy. The results show that air infiltration and solar radiation are the two main factors affecting the indoor temperature field. For conventional heating systems widely used in severely cold regions of China, it is not recommended to install thermostats near the occupants, but rather on the walls. The installation location should comprehensively consider room size, air infiltration, and solar radiation. To avoid the influence of outdoor factors and internal heat sources, 1.5 m can be used as the optimal installation height. Intravenous alpha-2-adrenergic receptor agonists reduce energy expenditure and lower the temperature when shivering begins in humans, allowing a decrease in core body temperature. Because there are few data about similar effects from oral drugs, we tested whether single oral doses of the sedative dexmedetomidine (1 µg/kg sublingual or 4 µg/kg swallowed) or the muscle relaxant tizanidine (8 mg or 16 mg), combined with surface cooling, reduce energy expenditure and core body temperature in humans. A total of 26 healthy participants completed 41 one-day laboratory studies measuring core body temperature using an ingested telemetry capsule and measuring energy expenditure using indirect calorimetry for up to 6 hours after drug ingestion. Dexmedetomidine induced a median 13% – 19% peak reduction and tizanidine induced a median 15% – 22% peak reduction in energy expenditure relative to baseline. Core body temperature decreased a median of 0.5°C – 0.6°C and 0.5°C – 0.7°C respectively. Decreases in temperature occurred after peak reductions in energy expenditure. Energy expenditure increased with a decrease in core temperature in control participants but did not occur after 4 µg/kg dexmedetomidine or 16 mg tizanidine. Plasma levels of dexmedetomidine but not tizanidine were related to mean temperature change. Decreases in heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, cardiac stroke volume index, and cardiac index were associated with the change in metabolic rate after higher drug doses. To better understand the implications of climate change, the combined responses of olive trees to irrigation amount and warming need to be examined. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effects of moderate deficit irrigation and warming during late winter and spring on vegetative growth and biomass, full bloom timing and intensity, and yield components in young olive trees. Two three month-long experiments were conducted using open top chambers with four treatment combinations: 100% irrigation with a control temperature; 100% irrigation with 4 °C warming; 50% irrigation with a control temperature; and 50% irrigation with 4 °C warming. The trees were potted two-year-old, cv. Arbequina trees in the 2018 experiment and three-year-old, cv. Coratina trees in the 2019 experiment. Flowering was low in the young cv. Arbequina trees in 2018, but it was much greater in the older cv. Coratina trees in 2019. Overall, lower flowering intensity and fruit set or more parthenocarpic fruit contributed to less viable fruit number with warming. These reproductive variables were less affected by deficit irrigation. In contrast, shoot growth and vegetative biomass were decreased by deficit irrigation in cv. Arbequina (2018) when fruit number was low in all trees with less response due to warming. In cv. Coratina (2019), the lower fruit number in warmed compared to control trees contributed to greater individual fruit weight at the end of the experimental period, and few significant effects of either deficit irrigation or warming on shoot growth were observed. Fruit yield was greater in the well-irrigated, temperature control than in the other treatment combinations in cv. Arbequina, while warming reduced fruit yield in cv. Coratina. From a production perspective, it does not appear that many early reproductive responses to warming can be easily counteracted by adjusting irrigation. We combine published and new mineralogical data on most major taxa of brachiopods from all over the world, to investigate patterns and controls on brachiopod carbonate mineralogy. Measurements of 1726 specimens in 162 species (including 56 fossil species) ranged from 79°N to 74°S and from intertidal to almost 4000 m deep. Calcareous brachiopods mostly create strong resilient valves of very low-Mg calcite ($\bar{\chi }$ χ ¯ = 1.3 wt% MgCO3). The substrate-cemented Craniida ($\bar{\chi }$ χ ¯ = 8.9 wt% MgCO3) and Thecideida ($\bar{\chi }$ χ ¯ = 6.5 wt% MgCO3) are unusual in precipitating calcite with higher Mg content. This is the first study to find bimineralic brachiopods; a few species show a combination of low-Mg ($\bar{\chi }$ χ ¯ = 0.8 wt% MgCO3) and intermediate-Mg calcite ($\bar{\chi }$ χ ¯ = 7.2 wt% MgCO3) (sensu Smith AM, Key MM Jr, Gordon DP. 2006. While Mg in calcite varies systematically among valve layers and sometimes along the growth axis, we found no consistent difference between valves of the same individual. A weak latitudinal signal indicates some overall temperature control of Mg, but in general, brachiopods are active calcifiers, precipitating low-Mg calcite even when Mg:Ca ratio in seawater is high. Background: The behavior of shape memory alloys that admit large reversible deformations in response to thermal excitation has been extensively studied in recent years. Yet, the number of works dealing with springs made from these alloys is rather limited in spite of their attractiveness in various applications. Objective: To bridge this gap we designed and constructed an experimental system for characterizing the behavior of the springs. It enables precise control of the three state variables: temperature, elongation, and force. Methods: Control of the sample temperature is achieved by immersing it in a water-filled thermal bath, where the water temperature is adjusted using a thermoelectric Peltier device. A tension-compression motorized unit sets the spring elongation and a force gauge is used for measuring the force exerted on the spring. The data is continuously monitored and acquired with a self-coded LabVIEW program. An important aspect is the calibration procedure developed for identifying the spring load-free state and ensuring the repetitiveness of the measurements. Results: Experiments in which the elongation or the force were measured as a function of the temperature demonstrate the role of the phase transformations. Isothermal experiments enabled to characterize the variations of the force versus the elongation at different temperatures. Conclusions: The proposed system facilitates the execution of highly accurate experiments through which the complex history-dependent behavior of shape memory springs can be revealed and studied. Floral initiation in biennial-fruiting red raspberry is controlled by the interaction of temperature and photoperiod. To determine the threshold temperatures for short day (SD) floral initiation in early- and late-flowering cultivars, we exposed plants of 'Glen Ample', 'Glen Mor' and 'Duo' to 12°, 16° and 20°C in a daylight phytotron under naturally decreasing autumn daylength at Ås, Norway (59°40'N). While none of the cultivars ceased growing or initiated floral primordia at 20°C, 'Glen Ample' and 'Glen Mor' initiated buds at 12° and 16°C, whereas 'Duo' formed flower buds at 12°C only. Surprisingly, however, all plants flowered abundantly in spring after winter chilling in the dark at −1.5 ± 0.5°C for 7 months. We discuss two possible explanations for this unusual and novel flowering response. Fractional induction is well known in raspberry, and we visualise that in SD at 20°C, the SD requirement is fulfilled, while floral induction is still blocked by inappropriate temperature. A vernalisation-like response is alternatively suggested as this can take place at near-freezing temperatures in the dark. A combination of the two mechanisms is also possible and likely. This study demonstrates capabilities of a molecular beam epitaxy method for the deposition of ferromagnetic Pd–Fe alloy thin films with variable compositions across film thickness. It is proposed as a technological route to synthesize graded magnetic materials possessing unusual physical properties. A particular approach to realize a concentration profile through temperature control of an effusion cell during deposition is described in detail. Using this technique, graded ferromagnetic films were synthesized and characterized to reveal the possibility of controlling the spectrum of standing spin waves in them. Limitations of creating Pd–Fe films magnetically profiled across the thickness are discussed, associated with the thermal inertia of effusion cells and possible phase separation. Efficient thermal management of lithium-ion battery, working under extremely rapid charging-discharging, is of widespread interest to avoid the battery degradation due to temperature rise, resulting in the enhanced lifespan. Herein, thermal management of lithium-ion battery has been performed via a liquid cooling theoretical model integrated with thermoelectric model of battery packs and single-phase heat transfer. Aiming to alleviate the battery temperature fluctuation by automatically manipulating the flow rate of working fluid, a nominal model-free controller, i.e., fuzzy logic controller is designed. An optimized on-off controller based on pump speed optimization is introduced to serve as the comparative controller. Thermal control simulations are conducted under regular operating and extreme operating conditions, and two controllers are applied to control battery temperature with proper intervals which is conducive to enhance the battery charge-discharge efficiency. The results indicate that, for any operating condition, the fuzzy logic controller shows excellence in terms of the tracking accuracy of set-point of battery temperature. Thanks to the establishment of fuzzy set and fuzzy behavioral rules, the battery temperature has been throughout maintained near the set point, and the temperature fluctuation amplitude is highly reduced, with better temperature control accuracy of ∼0.2°C (regular condition) and ∼0.5°C (extreme condition) compared with ∼1.1°C (regular condition) and ∼1.6°C (extreme condition) of optimized on-off controller. While in the case of extreme operating condition, the proposed optimized on-off controller manifests the hysteresis in temperature fluctuation, which is ascribed to the set of dead-band for the feedback temperature. All inorganic metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted much attention for their outstanding optoelectronic properties, which can be tuned by the composition, surface, size and morphology in nanoscale. Herein, we report the microfluidic synthesis of hollow CsPbBr3 perovskite NCs through the nanoscale Kirkendall effect. The formation mechanism of the hollow structure (Kirkendall void) controlled by the temperature, flow rate, ratios of precursors and ligands was investigated. Compared with the solid CsPbBr3 NCs of the same size, the hollow CsPbBr3 NCs exhibit blue shifts in ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra, and remarkably longer PL average lifetime (~ 98.2 ns). Quantum confinement effect, inner surface induced additional trap states and lattice strain of the hollow CsPbBr3 NCs were discussed in understanding their unique optoelectronic properties. The hollow CsPbBr3 NC based photodetector exhibits an outstanding negative photoconductivity (NPC) detectivity of 8.9 × 1012 Jones. The tunnel boring machine (TBM) is typically used in hard-rock tunnel excavation. Owing to the unsatisfactory adaptability of TBM to the surrounding rock, when crossing high-strength and high-wear strata, the TBM can easily cause defects, such as abnormal wear on cutters and overload damage to bearings, thus affecting the construction efficiency and cost. Therefore, high-pressure waterjet technology should be applied to assist in rock breaking for efficient TBM tunneling. In this study, the effects of water pressure, nozzle diameter, and nozzle speed on cutting are investigated via laboratory experiments of cutting hard rock using high-pressure waterjets. The penetration performance of the TBM under different water pressures is investigated via a field industrial penetration test. The results show that high-pressure waterjets are highly efficient for rock breaking and are suitable for industrial applications, as they can accommodate the advancing speed of the TBM and achieve high-efficiency rock breaking. However, during the operation of high-pressure waterjets, the ambient temperature and waterjet temperature in the tunnel increase significantly, which weakens the cooling effect of the cutterhead and decreases the construction efficiency of the TBM. Therefore, temperature control and cooling measures for high-pressure waterjets during their long-term operation must be identified.
