Even though use of the internet by adolescents has grown exponentially, little is known about the correlation between tbeir interaction via Instant Messaging (IM) and the evolution of their interpersonal relationships in real life. In the present study, 369 junior high school students in Taiwan responded to questions regarding their IM usage and tbeir dispositional measures of reallife interpersonal relationships. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and quantile regression methods were used to analyze the data. Results indicate that (1) IM helps define adolescents' self-identity (forming and maintaining individual friendships) and social-identity (belonging to a peer group), and (2) how development of an interpersonal relationship is impacted by tbe use of IM since it appears that adolescents use IM to improve their interpersonal relationships in real life. The challenge of healing diabetic skin wounds presents a significant hurdle in clinical practice and scientific research. In response to this pressing concern, we have developed a temperature-sensitive, in situ-forming hydrogel comprising poly( n -isopropylacrylamide 166 - co - n -butyl acrylate 9 ) -poly(ethylene glycol) -poly( n -isopropylacrylamide 166 - co -butyl acrylate 9 ) copolymer, denoted as PEP, in combination with zinc oxide nanoparticles, forming what we refer to as PEP-ZnO hydrogel. The antimicrobial properties of the PEP-ZnO hydrogel against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus were rigorously assessed by using the bacteriostatic banding method. In vitro evaluations encompassed examinations of hemocompatibility and biocompatibility. The study further employed a diabetic Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat whole-layer trauma model for comprehensive in vivo analyses. In vivo healing assessments revealed the potential of the PEP-ZnO hydrogel, characterized by increased collagen deposition and enhanced vascularization at the trauma site, thus significantly expediting the healing process. Collectively, these findings endorse the PEP-ZnO hydrogel as a safe and effective dressing for addressing chronic wounds in diabetic patients. Despite advancements in nanomedicine for drug delivery, many drug-loaded nanoparticles reduce tumor sizes but often fail to prevent metastasis. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have attracted attention as promising nanocarriers. Here, we demonstrated that MSN-PEG/TA 25, with proper surface modifications, exhibited unique antimetastatic properties. In vivo studies showed that overall tumor metastasis decreased in 4T1 xenografts mice treated with MSN-PEG/TA 25 with a notable reduction in lung tumor metastasis. In vitro assays, including wound-healing, Boyden chamber, tube-formation, and real-time cell analyses, showed that MSN-PEG/TA 25 could modulate cell migration of 4T1 breast cancer cells and interrupt tube formation by human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), key factors in suppressing cancer metastasis. The synergistic effect of MSN-PEG/TA 25 combined with liposomal-encapsulated doxorubicin (Lipo-Dox) significantly boosted mouse survival rates, outperforming Lipo-Dox monotherapy. We attributed the improved survival to the antimetastatic capabilities of MSN-PEG/TA 25. Moreover, Dox-loaded MSN-PEG/TA 25 suppressed primary tumors while retaining the antimetastatic effect, thereby enhancing therapeutic outcomes and overall survival. Western blot and qPCR analyses revealed that MSN-PEG/TA 25 interfered with the phosphorylation of ERK, FAK, and paxillin, thus impacting focal adhesion turnover and inhibiting cell motility. Our findings suggest that drug-free MSN-PEG/TA 25 is highly efficient for cancer treatment via suppressing metastatic activity and angiogenesis.

Hydrogel has emerged as a promising wound dressing material, and in situ forming hydrogel has emerged as a promising wound dressing recently. But most in situ forming hydrogel are normally unstable. Herein, we report an in-situ forming hydrogel synthesized from poly(Nisopropylacrylamide166- co - n -butyl acrylate9)-poly(ethyleneglycol)-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide166- co - n -butyl acrylate9) copolymer (P(NIPAM166- co -nBA9)-PEG-P(NIPAM166-conBA9), denoted as PEP) and zinc oxide nano-particle(ZnO nano-particle) in response to skin temperature. This thermoresponsive hydrogel exhibits sol-gel reversibility at high temperatures, which is closed to the temperature of human skin. To investigate its healing effects, we used the Hydrogel dressing® in an SD rat model. The biocompatibility and antibacterial ability against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) of this PEP-ZnO hydrogel wound dressing are confirmed in vitro and in vivo, which could transparently promote the healing of a MRSA-infected frostbitten skin Injury., Materials and Methods: Thirty rats were randomly divided into two groups. The treatment group received hydrogel and transparent film dressing 30 min to 1 h post-burn, while the control group received only cotton dressing. The wound area was measured, and the wound closure rate was calculated on days 3, 7, and 14 post-surgery. Tissue samples were collected from each rat on these days and stored at -80 °C for histological analysis using H&E, Masson and immunohistochemical staining. This analysis assessed factors such as granulation tissue length, re-epithelialization, re-angiogenesis, collagen deposition, inflammatory cell infiltration, and collagen production. It has been said, 'Bone sets the tone, but tissue is the issue.' In the field of implantology, while significant breakthroughs have been achieved in hard tissue regeneration, clinicians find it more challenging to handle soft tissue complications around dental implants. Successfully managing soft tissue around dental implants requires clinicians to have comprehensive knowledge of proper implant placement, prosthetic design and tissue management, and a high level of surgical skills for soft tissue augmentation and grafting. Autogenous gingival grafts can be utilized in various clinical situations, providing surgeons with great potential and freedom to enhance the quality and quantity of peri-implant soft tissue. Emerging trends, such as digital tools for treatment planning, minimally invasive surgical approaches, and innovative biomaterials, can also contribute to a more pleasing outcome. Low specificity and hypoxia-induced drug resistance are significant challenges in traditional cancer treatment. To enhance the anticancer efficacy, an injectable hydrogel system is developed through the formation of dynamic covalent bonds in hyaluronic acid, allowing for localized controlled release of drugs. This system also utilizes double-stranded DNA sequences for the intercalation delivery of the chemotherapeutic drug, enabling a multifaceted approach to therapy. Cisplatin not only serves as a chemotherapy drug but also acts as a catalyst for chemodynamic therapy (CDT) to initiate CDT cascades by creating hydrogen peroxide for the Fenton reaction. Hemoglobin, enclosed in PLGA nanoparticles, provides ferrous ions that react with hydrogen peroxide in an acidic environment, yielding hydroxyl radicals that induce cancer cell death. Additionally, oxygen released from hemoglobin mitigates hypoxia-induced chemoresistance, bolstering overall anticancer efficacy. Results demonstrate the shear-thinning properties and injectability of the hydrogel. Cisplatin elevates intracellular hydrogen peroxide levels in tumor cells, while hemoglobin efficiently releases ferrous ions and generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. In in vitro and in vivo study, the combinational use of chemo- and chemodynamic therapies achieves a synergistic anticancer effect on combating glioblastoma. Our previous research has shown that melatonin (MLT) can reduce cryopreserved ovarian damage in mice. Yet, the molecular mechanism of MLT protection is still unclear. Some studies have shown that melatonin receptor 1 (MT1) is very important for animal reproductive system. To evaluate whether MLT exerts its protective effect on cryopreserved mice ovarian tissue via MT1, we added antagonist of MT1/MT2 (Luzindor) or antagonist of MT2 (4P-PDOT) to the freezing solution, followed by cryopreservation and thawing of ovarian tissue. The levels of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), catalase (CAT), nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were detected. Besides, by using RT-PCR and Western blotting, the expression of Bcl-2, Bax and Nrf2/HO-1 signalling pathway-related proteins was detected. These findings demonstrated that compared with the melatonin group, the addition of Luzindor increased apoptosis, NO and MDA activities, decreased CAT and T-SOD activities and inhibited Nrf2/HO-1 signalling pathway. Resorption within cortices of long bones removes excess mass and damaged tissue and increases during periods of reduced mechanical loading. Returning to high-intensity exercise may place bones at risk of failure due to increased porosity caused by bone resorption. We used point-projection X-ray microscopy images of bone slices from highly loaded (metacarpal, tibia) and minimally loaded (rib) bones from 12 racehorses, 6 that died during a period of high-intensity exercise and 6 that had a period of intense exercise followed by at least 35 days of rest prior to death, and measured intracortical canal cross-sectional area (Ca.Ar) and number (N.Ca) to infer remodelling activity across sites and exercise groups. Large canals that are the consequence of bone resorption (Ca.Ar >0.04 mm 2 ) were 1.4× to 18.7× greater in number and area in the third metacarpal bone from rested than exercised animals (p = 0.005-0.008), but were similar in number and area in ribs from rested and exercised animals (p = 0.575-0.688). An intermediate relationship was present in the tibia, and when large canals and smaller canals that result from partial bony infilling (Ca.Ar >0.002 mm 2 ) were considered together. The mechanostat may override targeted remodelling during periods of high mechanical load by enhancing bone formation, reducing resorption and suppressing turnover. Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) patients experience a decline in ovarian function and a reduction in serum reproductive hormones, leading to a significant impact on the outcomes of assisted reproductive technology. Despite the absence of an effective clinical treatment to restore fertility in POI patients, recent research has indicated that cord blood plasma (CBP) derived from human umbilical cord blood (hUCB) may offer therapeutic benefits for various degenerative diseases. The primary aim of this study is to explore approaches for enhancing ovarian function and serum reproductive hormones through the administration of CBP in a murine model. Initially, hUCB was utilized to obtain CBP (CBP), which was subsequently analyzed for cytokine and growth factor profiles in comparison to adult blood plasma (ABP) by use of flow cytometry. Subsequently, POI mouse models were established through the induction of 4-vinylcyclohexene diepoxide, followed by the injection of CBP into the tail. At 7, 14, and 21 days posttreatment, mouse ovaries and blood were collected, and their estrus cycle, body weight, and ovarian weights were evaluated using precise electronic balance. Finally, ovarian morphology and follicle number were assessed through HE staining, while serum levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), estradiol (E2) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were determined by ELISA. Our study revealed that individuals with CBP exhibited significantly lower concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-β (p < 0.01) and IL-2 (p < 0.05), while displaying elevated levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12P70, IL-17A, IP-10, interferon-γ, and tumor necrosis factor-α (p < 0.01). Furthermore, CBP demonstrated remarkably higher levels of growth factors, including transforming growth factor-β1, vascular endothelial growth factor, and insulin-like growth factor-1 (p < 0.01) than ABP. Notably, our investigation also revealed that CBP restored the content of serum reproductive hormones, such as AMH, E2, and FSH (p < 0.05), and increased the number of primordial and primary follicles (p < 0.01) and decreased the number of luteal and atretic follicles (p < 0.01) in vivo. Our findings suggested that CBP-secreted cytokines and growth factors could be restored POI ovarian function, enhanced serum reproductive hormones and rescued follicular development in vivo. The photo-stimulus response has the advantage of non-invasiveness, which could be used to control the "on" and "off" of drug release achieving on-demand release. Herein, we design a heating electrospray during electrospinning to prepare photo-stimulus response composite nanofibers consisting of MXene@Hydrogel. This heating electrospray enables to spray MXene@Hydrogel during the electrospinning process, and the hydrogel is uniformly distributed which cannot be achieved by the traditional soaking method. In addition, this heating electrospray can also overcome the difficulty that hydrogels are hard to be uniformly distributed in the inner fiber membrane.The "on" and "off" state of drug release could be controlled by light. Not only near infrared (NIR) light but also sunlight could trigger the drug release, which could benefit outdoor use when cannot find NIR light. Evidence by hydrogen bond has been formed between MXene and Hydrogel, the mechanical property of MXene@Hydrogel composite nanofibers is significantly enhanced, which is conducive to the application of human joints and other parts that need to move. These nanofibers also possess fluorescence property, which is further used to real-time monitor the in-vivo drug release. Objectives: Group-2 reviewed the scientific evidence in the field of «Technology». Focused research questions were: (1) additive versus subtractive manufacturing of implant restorations; (2) survival, complications, and esthetics comparing prefabricated versus customized abutments; and (3) survival of posterior implant-supported multi-unit fixed dental prostheses., Materials and Methods: Literature was systematically screened, and 67 publications could be critically reviewed following PRISMA guidelines, resulting in three systematic reviews. Consensus statements were presented to the plenary where after modification, those were accepted., Results: Additively fabricated implant restorations of zirconia and polymers were investigated for marginal/internal adaptation and mechanical properties without clear results in favor of one technology or material. Titanium base abutments for screw-retained implant single crowns compared to customized abutments did not show significant differences concerning 1-year survival. PFM, veneered and monolithic zirconia implant-supported multi-unit posterior fixed dental prostheses demonstrated similar high 3-year survival rates, whereas veneered restorations exhibited the highest annual ceramic fracture and chipping rates., Conclusions: For interim tooth-colored implant single crowns both additive and subtractive manufacturing are viable techniques. The clinical performance of additively produced restorations remains to be investigated. Implant single crowns on titanium base abutments show similar clinical performance compared to other type of abutments; however, long-term clinical data from RCTs are needed. The abutment selection should be considered already during the planning phase. Digital planning facilitates 3D visualization of the prosthetic design including abutment selection. Background: The ventromedial prefrontal cortex has been viewed as a locus for storage and recall of extinction memory. However, the synaptic and cellular mechanisms underlying these processes remain elusive., Methods: We combined transgenic mice, electrophysiological recording, activity-dependent cell labeling, and chemogenetic manipulation to analyze the role of adaptor protein APPL1 in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex in fear extinction retrieval., Results: We found that both constitutive and conditional APPL1 knockout decreased NMDA receptor (NMDAR) function in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and impaired fear extinction retrieval. Moreover, APPL1 undergoes nuclear translocation during extinction retrieval. Blocking APPL1 nucleocytoplasmic translocation reduced NMDAR currents and disrupted extinction retrieval. We also identified a prefrontal neuronal ensemble that is both necessary and sufficient for the storage of extinction memory. Inducible APPL1 knockout in this ensemble abolished NMDAR-dependent synaptic potentiation and disrupted extinction retrieval, while chemogenetic activation of this ensemble simultaneously rescued the impaired behaviors., Conclusions: Our results indicate that a prefrontal neuronal ensemble stores extinction memory, and APPL1 signaling supports these neurons in retrieving extinction memory by controlling NMDAR-dependent potentiation., (Copyright © 2023 Society of Biological Psychiatry. Background: As more patients choose dental implants as their primary treatment option to restore edentulous ridges or to replace compromised dentition, preventive strategies for peri-implant diseases and complications have become an important topic., Purpose: The aim of the review article is to summarize the current available evidence on the potential risk factors/indicators for peri-implant disease development and then focus on the preventive strategies for peri-implant diseases and conditions., Materials and Methods: After reviewing the diagnostic criteria and the etiology of peri-implant diseases and conditions, evidence on the possible associated risk factors/indicators for peri-implant diseases were searched and identified. Recent studies were also surveyed to explore the preventive measures for peri-implant diseases., Results: The possible associated risk factors of peri-implant diseases can be divided into the following categories: patient-specific factors, implant-specific factors, and long-term factors. Patient-specific factors such as history of periodontitis and smoking have been conclusively associated with peri-implant diseases, whereas findings on others, such as diabetes and genetic factors, remain inconclusive. It has been suggested that both implant-specific factors, such as implant position, soft tissue characteristics, and the type of connection used, and long-term factors, such as poor plaque control and a lack of maintenance program, have a strong impact on maintaining the health of a dental implant. Assessment tool for evaluating the risk factors can be a potential preventive measure for peri-implant disease prediction, and it is needed to be properly validated., Conclusion: Proper maintenance program for early intervention to control peri-implant diseases at the initial stage and pretreatment assessment of the potential risk factors is the best strategy to prevent implant diseases., (© 2023 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is an effective fertility protective strategy for preadolescent female cancer patients, whose tumor treatment cannot be delayed. In the present study, the effects of sericin, as an antioxidant, on mice ovarian tissue freezing and thawing were investigated. Mice ovarian tissues were cryopreserved and thawed in medium containing 0.5% or 1%sericin (w/v), and 0.1 mM melatonin. Then, the follicular morphology was observed. The levels of antioxidant enzymes were determined, including glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and catalase (CAT). Moreover, the levels of nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were also tested. Besides, apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2 and Bax were determined. Our results showed that 1% sericin maintained follicular morphology, inhibited apoptosis, decreased MDA and NO levels, and boosted endogenous antioxidant enzyme levels, while had no significant effect on LDH levels. Furthermore, these effects may be related with the activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of Rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, as demonstrated by increased PI3K, p-AKT and mTOR levels. Objective: This study aims to report the implant survival rate of dental implants of partially dentate patients in the anterior mandible and the potential risk indicators for implant failure., Materials and Methods: Patients with implant-supported restorations of single or multiple teeth in the anterior mandible restored with fixed partial implant-supported restorations were evaluated. Patient demographic data, implant placement timing, and loading protocol, biological and/or technical complications at the time of the last clinical and radiographic follow-up visit were registered. Survival rate, success rate, and potential risk indicators for implant failure were calculated., Results: A total of 108 patients and 186 implants with a mean follow-up period of 5.48 years (0.1-11.34 years) were included. The 11.3-year cumulative survival rate was 90.9%. Immediate implant placement (OR = 2.75) (p = .08) and immediate implant loading (OR = 8.8) (p = .02*) indicated a higher risk of failure than late implant placement or loading. When combining both categories (type 1A), an OR = 10.59 (p = .04*) for implant failure was found compared to category 4C. Implants placed following static-computer-assisted implant surgery (S-CAIS) showed less risk of failure compared to freehand implant placement (OR = 0.18; 95% CI: 0.02-1.37) (p = .09)., Conclusions: The survival rate of implants placed in the anterior mandible was considerably low (90.9%). Purpose: This study explored the effects of bilateral varicocele on male semen quality in infertile men and the molecular mechanisms involving ferroptosis, pyroptosis and necroptosis signaling pathways. Methods: Totally, 20 healthy males and 26 patients with bilateral varicocele receiving infertility treatment were enrolled. Semen samples were collected. Basic semen parameters, acrosome integrity and membrane integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and apoptosis rate were compared. Levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), iron, glutathione (GSH), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and, Catalase (CAT), were detected in human seminal plasma. Relative mRNA expression of Ca 2+ -independent phospholipases A2 beta ( iPLA 2β ), P53, Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 ( ZEB1 ) and GSH-dependent peroxidase 4 ( GPX4 ) were evaluated. Relative protein expression was determined for GPX4, receptor interacting serine/threonine kinase 1 (RIPK1) and receptor interacting serine/threonine kinase 3 (RIPK3), as well as pyroptosis markers of Gasdermin E (GSDME) and heat shock protein 90 (HSP 90). Results: The results revealed that the bilateral varicocele group had significantly higher abnormalities (sperm progressive rate and sperm motility) compared to the control group. Meanwhile, compared to control group, GSH, T-SOD, and CAT levels were reduced in the bilateral varicocele group ( p < 0.05). However, the level of ROS and iron were significantly increased ( p < 0.05). Relative mRNA expression of P53 , iPLA 2β , ZEB1 , and GPX4 were reduced. In addition, ROS exposure activated ferroptosis-related signal pathways. RIPK1, RIPK3, GSDME and HSP 90 were increased in bilateral varicocele group. ROS exposure affected signaling pathways related to ferroptosis, necrosis and pyroptosis in human spermatozoa. Burns are usually difficult to treat because their susceptibe to bacterial infections. When burns is accompanied by hyperthermia, the heat accumulated on the skin will causes extensive tissue damage. Most dressings focus on the treatment process, while ignoring the first-aid treatment to remove hyperthermia. To make matters worse, when outdoors, it is hard to find clean water to wash and cool the burned area. A dressing which can simultaneously realize first-time cooling and repairing treatment of the burned area can shorten treatment time, and is especially beneficial for outdoor use. In this study, a handheld coaxial electrospinning device is developed for preparing platelet-rich plasma @Polycaprolactone-epsilon polylysine (PRP@PCL/ε-PL) core-shell nanofibers. The nanofibers can be synchronously transformed into ice fibers during the spinning process, and directly deposited on the skin. The whole process is convenient to use outdoor. Via dual cooling mechanisms, first aid can take away the excessive heat in the burn area by nanofibers. These core-shell nanofibers also show its excellent antimicrobial and tissue regeneration-promoting properties. Therefore, it achieves first-time cooling and repair treatment of the burned area at the same time. Moreover, due to direct in-situ deposition of this handheld coaxial electrospinning, better antimicrobial properties, and faster healing performance are achieved. Crustaceans and fish scales in the marine food industry are basically thrown away as waste. This not only wastes resources but also causes environmental pollution. While reducing pollution and waste, biological activity and storage of materials are urgent issues to be solved. In this study, by first preparing dry fibers and then making hydrogels, we prepared a fish scale/sodium alginate/chitosan nanofiber hydrogel (FS-P) by cross-linking the nanofibers in situ . From fish and other organisms, fish gelatin (FG), collagen and CaCO 3 were extracted. Fish scale (FS)/sodium alginate/chitosan nanofibers were cross-linked with copper sulfide nanoparticles prepared by a one-step green method to obtain FS-P nanofiber hydrogels under mild conditions without catalyst and additional procedures. These fiber hydrogels not only have good tissue adhesion and tensile properties, but also have the antibacterial effect of natural antibacterial and CuS photothermal synergism, which can achieve 51.32% and 49.96% of the antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli respectively, avoiding the generation of superbacteria. The nanofiber hydrogels have 87.56% voidage and 52.68% degradability after 14 days. Burns and scalds are thermal injuries caused by a large amount of heat accumulation in local tissues. The first cooling emergency is a key step. However, it is hard that in outdoors to find clean water to cool the scald tissue sites. Moreover, most dressings are concentrated on the treatment process today, neglecting the emergency treatment of temperature reduction. In this study, we imported refrigeration in the electrospinning process while using dirty water, rainwater and even urine of outdoors, so that the cooled sterile fibers were directly deposited on the burn and scald wounds, and the cooling emergency was achieved through the dual cooling mechanism. Since this fiber which is made up of cheap fish gelatin contains CuS adopting the green method, it can generate heat and effectively kill bacteria under the irradiation of an illumination lamp at the front end of a spinning device. As a result of the direct deposition, there is an excellent fit between the fibrous membrane and the skin, which reduces the air gap to achieve a better and quick cooling and heating effects. On the same Chitosan/Platelet-derived Growth Factor fiber membrane, this method of cooling first and heating second can shorten the recovery time from 30 days to 21 days. Objective: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a female reproductive disorder of unknown etiology with no definite pathogenesis. Melatonin (MT) is an endogenous hormone synthesized mainly by pineal cells and has strong endogenous effects in regulating ovarian function. To systematically explore the pharmacological mechanism of MT on POI therapy, a literature review approach was conducted at the signaling pathways level., Methods: Relevant literatures were searched and downloaded from databases, including PubMed and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, using the keywords "premature ovarian insufficiency," "Hippo signaling pathways," and "melatonin." The search criteria were from 2010 to 2022. Background: Acupressure is one of the recommended non-pharmacologic treatments for cancer-related fatigue (CRF) according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines. However, few systematic review or meta-analysis studies have focused on the effect of acupressure on CRF., Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of acupressure in reducing CRF and to identify the effective acupoints and frequencies of acupressure treatments., Methods: The search and screening procedures were conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2009 guidelines. The search database included Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE and Google Scholar. RoB 2.0 and ROBINS-I were used as appraisal tools. The statistical analysis, including effect size estimation, was computed using RevMan 5.4., Results: Twelve studies (15 sets of data) were included in the review and analysis. Nine hundred sixty patients with cancer who were currently undergoing or had completed treatment were enrolled as participants and received different levels of acupressure. The result showed the overall effect size of CRF in reducing acupressure to be SMD= -0.77, 95% CI [-0.90, -0.65]. In the subgroup analysis, the effect size of auricular acupressure was SMD= -0.98, 95% CI [-1.25, -0.71] and the body acupressure effect size was SMD= -0.70, 95% CI [-0.84, -0.56]., Conclusions / Implications for Practice: Based on the results of this systematic review, acupressure may be applied to the body acupoints Hegu (LI4), Zusanli (ST36), and Sanyinjiao (SP6) once daily for 1-3 minutes each and to the auricular acupoints shenmen and subcortex once daily for 3 minutes each to effectively reduce cancer-related fatigue.

For individual cultures, findings on regulating embryo density by changing the microdrop volume are contradictory. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between embryo density and the developmental outcome of day 3 embryos after adjusting covariates. In total, 1196 embryos from 206 couples who had undergone in vitro fertilization treatment were analyzed retrospectively. Three embryo densities were used routinely, i.e. one embryo in a drop (30 μl/embryo), two embryos in a drop (15 μl/embryo) and three embryos in a drop (10 μl/embryo). Embryo quality on day 3 was evaluated, both the cell number of day 3 embryos and the proportion of successful implantations served as endpoints. Maternal age, paternal age, antral follicles and level of anti-Müllerian hormone, type of infertility, controlled ovarian stimulation protocol, length of stimulation, number of retrieved oocytes, number of zygotes (two pronuclei) and insemination type were covariates and adjusted. After adjusting fully for all covariates, the cell number of day 3 embryos was significantly increased by 0.40 (95% CI 0.00, 0.79; P = 0.048) and 0.78 (95% CI 0.02, 1.54; P = 0.044) in the 15 μl/embryo and 10 μl/embryo group separately, compared with the 30 μl/embryo group. The proportions of implanted embryos were 42.1%, 48.7% and 0.0% in the 30 μl/embryo, 15 μl/embryo and 10 μl/embryo groups respectively. There was no statistical significance ( P = 0.22) between the 30 μl/embryo group and the 15 μl/embryo group. After adjusting for confounders that were significant in univariate analysis, embryo density was still not associated with day 3 embryo implantation potential ( P > 0.05). In a 30-μl microdrop, culturing embryos with an embryo density of both 15 and 10 μl/embryo increased the cell number of day 3 embryos, which did not benefit embryo implanting potential, compared with individual culture of 30 μl/embryo.

Background/purpose: Crestal bone stability, implant rigidity and occlusal loading are issues with small-diameter implants. This article demonstrates the use of two small-diameter implants replacing a missing wide edentulous site and discusses factors that may affect bone changes., Methods: Patients who wanted to restore an edentulous space measuring from 12 to 14 mm wide in the posterior region were offered an alternative treatment option, using two narrow or regular-diameter implants instead of one wide implant. In the study, the crestal bone stability of 12 implants in 6 edentulous sites was assessed by cone beam CTs and periapical radiographs in follow-up visits for up to 4 years., Results: The bone level of all the implants was stable at buccal, lingual, mesial and distal sites, with mean values < 1 mm. The average buccal bone thickness was 1.15 ± 1.07 mm and lingual was 1.86 ± 0.89 mm, meaning that implants were surrounded by a sufficient amount of bone. The good treatment outcome may be attributed to the capability of fabricating better emergence profiles, angles (Mean: 20.67 ± 7.82° at the mesial and 20.25 ± 8.23° at the distal site) and cleansable embrasures of prostheses which are key to maintaining good oral hygiene and implant health., Conclusion: Using two narrow or regular-diameter implants to replace a single edentulous site measured around 12-14 mm wide in posterior region seemed to be a feasible treatment option. Objective: It is commonly believed that the oocytes from small follicles are unhealthy when a dominant follicle (DF) is recruited in the ovaries, especially when the DF is ovulated. This study aims to confirm whether the presence or ovulation of DF at the time of retrieval affects the clinical outcome of the natural cycle IVF with in vitro maturation (NC-IVF/M) treatment., Methods: Data were collected from 446 women with regular menstrual cycle and 536 retrieval cycles using NC-IVF/M treatment. The cycles were divided into three groups based on the results of the oocyte retrieval cycle. Group A covers the collection of oocytes from the DF and small follicles; Group B incorporates failed oocyte retrieval from DF and then the oocytes are retrieved only from small follicles; and Group C includes the retrieval of oocytes only from small follicles accompanied with an ovulated DF. Furthermore, Group B and C have subgroups to include whether in vivo matured oocytes were obtained from small follicles. Following aspiration of DF and small follicles, mature oocytes were inseminated on the date of retrieval by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and the immature oocytes were matured in vitro . If the immature oocytes were matured in vitro , they were inseminated using ICSI, and then the embryos obtained from in vivo and in vitro matured oocytes were transferred accordingly., Results: The oocytes from DF were successfully retrieved in 445 cycles (83.0%), failed to be retrieved in 54 cycles (10.1%) and ovulated in 37 cycles (6.9%). In Group A, an average of 2.0 ± 1.7 mature oocytes were retrieved, which was significantly higher than the average of Group B, with 1.3 ± 1.3 matured oocytes and Group C, with an average of 1.1 ± 1.5 matured oocytes ( P < 0.01). However, the average number of immature oocytes retrieved from each group show no difference among the three groups. There was no significant difference in maturation rates of immature oocytes, fertilization rates among the three groups. The clinical pregnancy rate per transfer cycle is 34.5%, 34.6% and 25.7% in Group A, B and C, respectively. No significant differences were observed in embryonic development and implantation capacity in Group B and C in comparison to Group A. And there was no significant difference in clinical pregnancy, implantation, live birth and miscarriage rates among the three groups. No significant differences were observed in the developmental and implantation capacity according to with or without in vivo matured oocytes were retrieved in Group B and Group C., Conclusion: The presence or ovulation of the dominant follicle from the ovaries does not significantly influence the developmental and implantation capacity of immature oocytes retrieved from small follicles, suggesting that NC-IVF/M is a promising treatment option for women without ovarian stimulation.

The primary objective of the study was to assess the values of serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels and the combined index for the prediction of number of oocytes retrieved (NOR) and number of good-quality embryos (GQE) in infertile women undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment. A group of 521 infertile women aged 21-46 years were recruited as subject in this study. Serum AMH, hormones, and antral follicle count (AFC) were measured. The infertile women were categorized into three groups: 21-34 years (reproductive age), 35-39 years (reproductive age), and 40-46 years (advanced-age infertile). The predictive accuracy of variables was analyzed by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. AFC, AFC/age ratio, AMH/age ratio, and ovarian response prediction index (ORPI) decreased gradually, while AMH decreased significantly with increase in age. Moreover, NOR and GQE were positively correlated with AFC, AMH, AFC/age ratio, AMH/age ratio, and ORPI ( P < 0.001). A statistical significance was observed in predicted oocyte retrieval including AMH, AMH/age ratio, and ORPI between 21-34 years and 35-46 years; especially in the 35-46 years group, these variables reached a "high" grade in the diagnostic accuracy because area under curve (AUC) ranged from 0.982 to 0.988 significantly. No statistical significance was observed for FSH, AMH, AFC, and related combined index predicting GQE. Introduction: Many studies have shown that embryo density has an impact on day-3 embryo-developmental outcomes; however, embryo density remains controversial in clinical practice. We aimed to evaluate the association between embryo density and day-3 embryo-developmental outcomes in real world with the largest sample size., Methods: In 2018, we identified 10941 day-3 embryos from all female patients ( n  = 1568) in the study. The embryos were allocated to three embryonic densities: 30  μ l/embryo (individual culture), 15  μ l/embryo, and 10  μ l/embryo (group culture). The primary outcomes were cleaving speed, quality, and proportion of successful implantations. The generalized estimate equation (GEE) model was used both in the univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression analyses to investigate the relationship between embryo density and embryo-developmental outcomes., Results: There were 3064, 5695, and 2182 embryos in the 30  μ l/embryo group, 15  μ l/embryo group, and 10  μ l/embryo group, respectively. The proportions of 7-10 cell embryos were 57.2%, 56.1%, and 58.3% in three densities with no statistical significance ( P =0.37), respectively. The proportions of morphologically good embryos were 20%, 20.3%, and 20% in three densities with no statistical significance ( P =0.85), respectively. Proportions of implanted embryos were 37.7%, 37.1%, and 27.8% with no statistical significance ( P =0.36), respectively. After adjustment for confounders, which were significant in the univariate analysis, the embryo density was still not associated with day-3 embryo-cleaving speed, day-3 embryo quality, and day-3 embryo-implanting potential (all P > 0.05)., Conclusion: In a 30  μ l microdrop, the culturing embryos with embryo densities of 15, 10, and 30  μ l/embryo (from zygotes to day 3) had similar developmental outcomes. Bacterial infections prolong the wound healing time and increase the suffering of patients, thus it is important to develop wound dressing that can inhibit bacterial infection. Herein, we use two methods including "doping method" and "secondary growth method" to prepare ZIF-8@gentamicin embedded in and coated on polyacrylonitrile/gelatin (PG) nanofibers, separately. Composite nanofibers prepared by the secondary growth method achieve higher drug loading than that of the doping method, and the release rate can be adjusted by pH. Simultaneously increasing drug loading and regulating its release rate are achieved in the secondary growth method, which cannot be achieved by the doping method. Furthermore, synergistic antibacterial property occurs in the composite nanofibers prepared by the secondary growth method, and gentamicin loaded on ZIF-8 promotes the antibacterial effect, which shows better antibacterial effect than the doping method. As a result, during the wound infection of mouse, composite nanofibers prepared by the secondary growth method exhibit a faster recovery effect than the doping method, which effectively shortened the wound healing time from 21 days to 16 days., (Copyright © 2021. The study aimed to compare bupivacaine onset time when administered via epidural anaesthesia injecting both at the lumbosacral and sacrococcygeal spaces, spinal anaesthesia, and DPE in clinical dogs. A total of 41 dogs requiring neuraxial anaesthesia as part of their anaesthetic protocol were recruited. They were randomly allocated to receive an epidural injection in the sacrococcygeal space aided by the nerve stimulator (SCO), an epidural injection in the lumbosacral (LS), a subarachnoid injection (SPI), or a DPE. The onset of anaesthesia was assessed every 30 s after the injection by testing the presence of patellar ligament reflex. The number of attempts and time to perform the technique were also recorded. Data were analysed using a one-way ANOVA for trimmed means with post hoc Lincoln test and a Kaplan-Meier curve. The significance level was set at p < 0.05, and the results are presented in absolute values and median (range). There was no difference in the number of attempts required to complete the techniques between groups ( p = 0.97). Epidural injections (LS and SCO) tended to be shorter than SPI and DPE techniques, but there was no statistically significant difference ( p = 0.071). The time to the disappearance of patellar ligament reflex (Westphal's sign) in the SCO group was longer than in any other group. In conclusion, all techniques provided a rapid block of the patellar reflex. The SCO technique was the slowest in onset, while the other groups (SPI, DPE, and LS) were faster and almost indistinguishable.

This study aimed to validate previously published computed tomography (CT) derived mathematical equations with the true skin to lumbosacral epidural distance (SLED) in dog cadavers. Phase 1: The lumbar region of 11 dog cadavers were scanned in sternal recumbency to determine the effect of cranial, neutral, and caudal pelvic limb positioning on the CT derived lumbosacral epidural distance (CLED). Phase 2: The epidural space was determined using contrast epidurography, and the SLED was analysed against the mathematical equations using a body condition score (BCS) and either the cadaveric occipital-coccygeal length (OCL) (Equation (1): = 7.3 + 0.05*OCL + 16.45*BCS) or the ilium wing distance (IWD) (Equation (2): = 3.5 + 0.56*IWD + 16.6*BCS). There were no differences detected between the pelvic limb positions and the CLED. Both equations demonstrated strong correlations (Equation (1): r = 0.7196; Equation (2): r = 0.7590) with the SLED. The level of agreement was greater for Equation (1) than with Equation (2) (concordance coefficient 0.6061 and 0.3752, respectively). Equation (1) also demonstrated a closer fit to the concordance line compared with Equation (2) (bias correction factor 0.8422 and 0.4960, respectively). Further studies in live anaesthetised dogs will help to determine the usefulness of the pre-procedural knowledge when performing lumbosacral epidurals.

Melatonin (MT) is an endogenous hormone mainly synthesized by pineal cells, which has strong endogenous effects of eliminating free radicals and resisting oxidative damages. Melatonin (MT) can not only regulate the body's seasonal and circadian rhythms; but also delay ovarian senescence, regulate ovarian biological rhythm, promote follicles formation, and improve oocyte quality and fertilization rate. This review aimd to provide evidence concerning the synthesis and distribution, ovarian function, and role of MT in development of follicles and oocytes. Moreover, the role of MT as antioxidative, participating in biological rhythm regulation, was also reviewed. Furthermore, the effects of MT on various ovarian related diseases were analyzed, particularly for the ovarian aging and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Oligozoospermia or low sperm count is a leading cause of male infertility worldwide. Despite decades of work on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) as regulators of spermatogenesis, fertilization, and male fertility, the literature on the function of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in human oligozoospermia is scarce. We integrated lncRNA and mRNA sequencing data from 12 human normozoospermic and oligozoospermic samples and comprehensively analyzed the function of differentially expressed lncRNAs (DE lncRNAs) and mRNAs (DE mRNAs) in male infertility. The target genes of DE lncRNAs were identified using a Gaussian graphical model. Gene ontology terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways were primarily enriched in protein transport and localization to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The lncRNA-mRNA co-expression network revealed cis- and trans-regulated target genes of lncRNAs. The transcriptome data implicated DE lncRNAs and DE mRNAs and their target genes in the accumulation of unfolded proteins in sperm ER, PERK-EIF2 pathway-induced ER stress, oxidative stress, and sperm cell apoptosis in individuals with oligozoospermia. These findings suggest that the identified lncRNAs and pathways could serve as effective therapeutic targets for male infertility.

Abstract: We aimed to investigate ovarian reserve status, and explore differences in ovarian reserve between fertile and infertile healthy Chinese women of reproductive age.We recruited 442 fertile women aged 23 to 49 years (mean: 35.22 ± 4.91 years) as subjects, and 196 infertile women aged 23 to 46 years (mean: 32.34 ± 4.34 years) as controls. For all participants, a number of parameters were tested on days 2 to 4 of a spontaneous cycle, including basal serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH), total testosterone, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), ovarian response prediction index (ORPI), and antral follicle count (AFC).There were significant differences in terms of AFC, serum AMH levels, and ORPI among subject subgroups (10.58 ± 5.80; 2.533 ± 2.146 ng/mL; 1.28 ± 1.87; respectively), and among control subgroups (12.44 ± 5.69; 3.189 ± 2.551 ng/mL; 1.88 ± 2.68; respectively) (P < .01 for all). For both subjects and controls, AFC, AMH levels, and ORPI decreased gradually with increasing age, and presented with similar age-related trends; there were positive correlations between AMH and AFC (P < .001), and negative correlations between age and AFC, AMH, ORPI (P < .05 for all). There was a significant difference in age (P < .001), serum E2 (P < .01), and AMH (P < .01) levels between subjects and controls; however, when controlling for confounding factors (age, body mass index, total testosterone, and LH), we found no differences between the 2 groups with regards to the serum levels of AMH, FSH, E2, and AFC (P > .05 for all). Moreover, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis indicated that the significant variables of subjects and controls for evaluating ovarian reserve included age, AMH and ORPI, and ORPI was more valuable than other variables.A diminished ovarian reserve was one of the manifestations caused by female aging. Objective: To investigate if high anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentration is a useful tool to predict the outcome of assisted reproductive treatment., Methods: Retrospective cohort study involving 520 patients who underwent IVF/ICSI procedures in a university hospital. We measured the serum AMH level on day 3 of the menstrual cycle. Based on AMH levels, we divided the patients into three groups as follows: low (<25th percentile) AMH group, average (25th to 75th percentile) AMH group and high (>75th percentile) AMH group. We recorded the fertilization rate (FR), the number of oocytes retrieved, the number of good quality embryos (GQEs) and the clinical pregnancy rate (CPR)., Results: There was no difference between the three AMH groups in terms of maternal age, body mass index (BMI), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone (T) in the IVF/ICSI cycles. The women in the high serum AMH group had a higher number of retrieved oocytes than those in the low or average AMH groups (p < 0.01) in the IVF/ICSI cycles. Compared with the low or average AMH groups, the women with high AMH levels had a higher number of good quality embryos (GQEs) in the IVF/ICSI cycles (p < 0.01). However, high AMH women had no significantly higher clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) compared to the women in the low or average AMH groups. In addition, for the prediction of CPR, the AMH levels alone were not an independent predictor of CPR for IVF and ICSI cycles in the ROC curve analysis., Conclusions: High anti-Müllerian hormone levels are an independent predictor of the number of retrieved oocytes and good quality embryos (GQEs), but might not reflect the likelihood of higher clinical pregnancy rates (CPR) in IVF/ICSI treatment.

The Three Gorges Reservoir area (TGRA) is a critical water source protection area in China and one of the regions with rapid economic development in the Yangtze River basin. Non-point source pollution is the leading cause of the deterioration of the water environment in the TGRA; therefore, studying the non-point source pollution status in the TGRA is of great significance to the regional ecological security and sustainable development. The improved export coefficient model was used to estimate the total non-point source nitrogen and phosphorus pollution loads in the TGRA from 1990 to 2015, the spatial and temporal characteristics of the non-point source nitrogen and phosphorus pollution were analyzed, and the primary sources of pollution were determined by calculating the contribution rate of each pollution source. The results concluded that the nitrogen and phosphorus pollution loads were highest in the hinterland of the reservoir, followed by the end of the reservoir, with the lowest in the head of the reservoir, showing significant spatial heterogeneity in the TGRA. The total loads of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution increased firstly and then decreased, which reached the highest value in 2000 and the lowest value in 2015. The contribution rate of each pollution source to the nitrogen and phosphorus pollution loads, from highest to lowest, were land use, rural life, livestock, and poultry farming. Among them, the land use type of dry land was the predominant source of non-point source nitrogen and phosphorus pollution.

Background: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of femoral artery cannulation as an alternative to axillary artery cannulation, we retrospectively compared outcomes between patients with axillary or femoral artery cannulation during open aortic arch repair for type A aortic dissection (TAAD)., Methods: Between January 2014 and January 2019, 646 patients underwent open aortic arch repair with circulatory arrest for TAAD using antegrade selective cerebral perfusion (SACP) and were divided into two groups according to the site of arterial cannulation: an axillary artery group (axillary group, n=558) or a femoral artery group (femoral group, n=88). The axillary artery was considered as the primary cannulation site, and the femoral artery was used as an alternative when axillary artery cannulation was deemed unsuitable or had failed. Propensity score matching was performed to correct baseline differences., Results: After propensity score matching, the patients' characteristics were comparable between groups (n=85 in each). The incidence of in-hospital mortality (10.6% vs. 14.1%; P=0.642) and stroke (3.5% vs. 5.9%; P=0.720) were comparable between the axillary and femoral groups. The incidence of newly required dialysis was lower in the femoral group, but the difference was not statistically significant (34.1% vs. 20.0%; P=0.050). Other outcomes and major adverse events were comparable., Conclusions: Femoral artery cannulation produced similar perioperative outcomes to axillary cannulation after open arch repair for TAAD. Our previous study revealed that melatonin (MLT) protected the quality of cryopreserved ovarian tissues in mice. This work was carried out to examine the role of MLT in inducing HSP90 expression of ovarian tissue for achieving cryoprotection. Pieces of ovarian tissues were obtained from 50 female rats treated with MLT at 0, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, and 1 mM, respectively. After cryopreservation-thawing, HSP90 mRNA and protein level were evaluated using qRT-PCR and western blot. The qRT-PCR results revealed that HSP90 mRNA expression was significantly (p < 0.01) upregulated in MLT-treated groups in comparison with the controls (0 mM). Western blot revealed higher HSP90 protein expression in MLT-treated groups compared to control group (0 mM), thus further confirming that MLT positively affected HSP90 expression. Moreover, 0.1 mM MLT had better effects than other concentrations of MLT. The current clinical techniques for neuraxial needle placement in dogs are predominantly blind without prior knowledge of the depth required to reach the desired space. This study investigated the correlation and defined the relationship between easily obtainable external landmark variables in the dog; occipital-coccygeal length (OCL) and ilium wings distance (IWD), with the skin to epidural and intrathecal space distances using computed tomography (CT). The CT images of 86 dogs of different breeds were examined in this retrospective observational study. Images of dogs in sternal recumbency were optimized to the sagittal view. The distances between the skin and lumbosacral epidural space (LSE) and skin to sacrococcygeal space (SCE) were measured to the ligamentum flavum surrogate (LFS) line. The distance between the skin and the intrathecal space (ITS) was measured from the skin to the vertebral canal at the interlumbar (L 5 -L 6 ) space. Measurements of the IWD and OCL were performed on dorsal and scout views, respectively. Linear regression equations and Pearson's correlation coefficients were calculated between variables. Data were reported as mean (standard deviation). Significance was set as alpha < 0.05. After exclusion of four dogs, 82 CT scans were included. The depths were LSE 45 (15) mm, SCE 23 (10) mm, and ITS 50 (15) mm. There was a moderate correlation between OCL with LSE (=14.2 + OCL * 0.05 ( r = 0.59, p < 0.0001)), and a strong correlation with ITS (=11.4 + OCL * 0.07 ( r = 0.76, p < 0.0001)), while a very weak correlation was found with SCE (=14.0 + OCL * 0.02 ( r = 0.27, p < 0.0584)). Similarly, with IWD, there was a moderate correlation with LSE (=10.8 + IWD * 0.56 ( r = 0.61, p < 0.0001)), and strong correlation with ITS (=9.2 + IWD * 0.67 ( r = 0.75, p < 0.0001)), while a weak correlation was found with SCE (=11.2 + IWD * 0.2 ( r = 0.32, p < 0.0033)). Mathematical formulae derived from the multiple regression showed that the body condition score (BCS) improved the relationship between IWD and OCL and the LSE, SCE and ITS, while the addition of body weight was associated with multicollinearity. Further studies are required to determine the accuracy of the algorithms to demonstrate their ability for prediction in a clinical setting.

Sinus floor elevation with the lateral window approach has proven to be an effective treatment modality for vertical bone augmentation in the posterior region of the maxilla. The simultaneous implant placement during the procedure can be achieved if enough remaining bone height is available to obtain implant primary stability. However, the proper identification of the maxillary sinus boundaries for the window demarcation along with membrane protection for simultaneous implant placement can be challenging. This clinical report demonstrates a novel technique for sinus floor augmentation using a 3D modified implant-osseous-membrane surgical template to assist in the lateral window demarcation, membrane stabilization and protection, and guided implant placement in a partially edentulous patient who was eligible for one-stage sinus floor elevation. The surgical procedure for the sinus demarcation is simplified, the membrane stabilization and protection are effective, and the guided implant placement provided a predictable surgical positioning of the implants.

Cryopreservation of ovarian tissues (OTs) has become the most effective way to preserve the fertility of female cancer patients. However, cryopreservation of OTs is still relatively at an experimental stage. The aim of study is to examine the effect of melatonin (MTL) on cryopreserved-thawed OTs. Fragments of OTs were cryopreserved in medium containing different concentrations (0 mM, 0.001 mM, 0.01 mM, 0.1 mM and 1 mM) of MLT. The endogenous enzymes (GSH-PX, GSH, SOD, CAT and T-AOC), MDA and ROS levels were all evaluated after cryopreservation. Our results showed that the 0.1 mM of MLT significantly improved the survival and diameter of follicles (P < 0.001). Meanwhile, the antioxidant enzymes activities (including GSH-PX, GSH, SOD, CAT and T-AOC) were enhanced and MDA content were significantly decreased in 0.1 mM of MLT group compared to other groups (P < 0.001). Additionally, compared to the control group, MTL of 0.1 mM resulted in a significantly lower ROS level. Melatonin is a ubiquitous indoleamine hormone synthesized primarily by the pineal gland. Diverse biological actions of melatonin involve quite complex mechanisms via its membrane receptors. More recently, studies have focused on the role of melatonin in male fertility preservation and male reproductive system. The protective effects of melatonin on immature testicular tissue freshness and activity maintenance and the preservation of sperm and spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) have attracted considerable attention in recent years. Furthermore, since melatonin has strong antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties, researchers have examined its potential role in male reproductive system. In the field of assisted reproductive technology, female fertility preservation, particularly ovarian tissue cryopreservation in adolescent cancer patients, has attracted much attention. Melatonin (MLT) is well known for its antioxidative and anti-apoptotic properties; however, whether it can ameliorate the cryoinjury and inhibit the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cryopreserved ovarian tissues (OTs) has not yet been reported. Here, we demonstrated that MLT could protect follicular integrity; prevent cell apoptosis; decrease ROS, malondialdehyde (MDA), and nitric oxide (NO) levels; and increase activities of glutathione peroxidases (GSH-Px), glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in cryopreserved OTs. Furthermore, these effects may be related with the activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway, as evidenced by increased mRNA levels of Nrf2 downstream genes, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), glutathione S-transferase M1 (GSTM1), SOD, and CAT. Activatable cell-penetrating peptide (ACPP) conjugated polymeric nanoparticles containing gadolinium (Gd)-chelates and aggregation-induced emission fluorogens (AIEgens) have been synthesized and applied as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluorescence imaging (FI) bimodal imaging probe with active tumor targeting. The polymeric nanoparticles have been generated by dissolving presynthesized linear block copolymers into water directly. With AIEgens, N-BP5-Gd-ACPPs showed tumor cell penetration, which can be characterized by in vitro FI. Preliminary in vivo experiments of Gd-chelated nanoparticles have demonstrated promising characteristics as a tumor-targeting MRI contrast agent with good biocompatibility. This study impacts the synthesis of functional copolymers and polymeric nanoparticles for their applications in bioimaging.

The abuse of antibiotics resulted in the emergence of antibiotics-resistant bacteria, which has raised a great social concern together with the impetus to develop effective antibacterial materials. Herein, the synthesis of biocompatible enzyme-responsive Ag nanoparticle assemblies (ANAs) and their application in the high-efficiency targeted antimicrobial treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ( MRSA ) have been demonstrated. The ANAs could collapse and undergo stable/collapsed transition on approaching MRSA because of the serine protease-like B enzyme proteins (SplB)-triggered decomposition of the branched copolymers which have been employed as the macrotemplate in the synthesis of responsive ANAs. This transition contributed greatly to the high targeting affinity and efficiency of ANAs to MRSA . The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration against MRSA were 2.0 and 32.0 μg mL -1 , respectively. Skin wound healing experiments confirmed that the responsive ANAs could serve as an effective wound dressing to accelerate the healing of MRSA infection.

Background/aims: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder characterized by abnormal hormone levels in peripheral blood and poor-quality oocytes. PCOS is a pathophysiological syndrome caused by chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism of melatonin regulation on androgen production and antioxidative damage in granulosa cells from PCOS patients with hypoestrogenia and hyperandrogenia., Methods: Cumulus-oocyte complexes were collected from PCOS patients who had low levels of estrogen in follicular fluids., Results: Melatonin triggered upregulation of cytochrome P450 family 19 subfamily A member 1 (CYP19A1) expression via the extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway in luteinized granulosa cells. As a result, conversion of androgen to 17 β -estradiol was accelerated. We also found that melatonin significantly reduced the levels of inducible nitric oxide (NO) synthetase and NO in luteinized granulosa cells. Levels of transcripts encoding NF-E2-related factor-2 and its downstream target heme oxygenase-1 were also increased, leading to anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
