The author summarizes the Eleventh International Conference on Issues of Bibliology, Moscow, April 20–21, 2004. In spite of difficult socio-economic times, this conference was larger and more international than even the largest one during Soviet times. Included were plenary sessions and nine sections: history of the book; library science; publishing and editing; theory and methodology of book studies; book distribution; electronic books and information technologies; bibliography; bibliophile matters; and culture of the book. The Russian Book Chamber (RBC, Rossiiskaia knizhnaia palata) is Russia's national bibliographic center. In addition to compiling the many series of the national bibliography, it also publishes two scholarly journals and prepares periodic reports about book publishing and distribution in Russia as a whole and in her separate regions. The RBC has been undergoing many changes, including modernizing its telecommunication infrastructure, updating its capability to provide in- formation in electronic format, setting standards, working with other agencies to prevent piracy, redistributing responsibilities between itself and the regional book chambers, creating bibliographical formats compatible with those of other countries, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The seventh annual meeting of the Russian Library Association took place in Iaroslavl' from 12-18 May 2002. It included an exhibit at which 61 publishers and other companies and organizations participated. There were sessions on automation, standardized electronic cataloging, bibliography, library policy and legislation, national libraries of the subjects of the Russian Federation, and much more.
