Kestävyys ja vastuullisuus koskettavat jokaista työntekijää 2020-luvulla. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan ammatillisten perustutkintojen opettajien näkemyksiä globaalien aiheiden käsittelystä toisen asteen ammatillisessa koulutuksessa Suomessa. Aineisto koostuu opettajien vastauksista (N=187) keväällä 2022 toteutettuun verkkokyselyyn. Analyysissä käytettiin kuvailevia tilastollisia menetelmiä sekä temaattista analyysia peilaten kyselyvastauksia teoriataustaan, aiempaan globaalin kansalaiskasvatuksen sekä ammatillisen koulutuksen tutkimukseen. Tulokset viittaavat siihen, että globaali kansalaiskasvatus on implisiittisesti läsnä toisen asteen ammatillisessa koulutuksessa Suomessa. Tutkinnon perusteet eivät tue suunnitelmallista syventymistä globaaleihin aiheisiin ammatillisessa koulutuksessa. Silti aiheet nousevat esiin oppilaitosten arjessa ja niitä käsitellään pääosin spontaaneilla keskusteluilla opetuksen ja ohjaamisen yhteydessä. Opettajat näkevät globaalit aiheet tärkeiksi moninäkökulmaisuuden ja yhteenkietoutuneisuuden ymmärtämisen, tulevaisuuden työelämän sekä vastuullisena kansalaisena toimimisen näkökulmasta. Opettajien mukaan globaalit aiheet koskettavat kaikkia ammattialoja ja niiden merkitys kasvaa tulevaisuudessa. Koulutuksellisen yhdenvertaisuuden kannalta on keskeistä, että myös ammattiin opiskelevilla on mahdollisuus harjoitella yhteiskunnallisen osallistumisen taitoja sekä perehtyä globaaleihin aiheisiin koulutuksensa aikana. Globaali kansalaiskasvatus voi tarjota tähän sekä teoreettista että käytännöllistä tukea., Sustainability and responsibility affect every worker in the 2020s. This study examines the perceptions of teachers in initial vocational qualifications on addressing global issues in upper secondary vocational education and training (VET) in Finland. The data consist of teachers’ responses (N=187) to an online survey in the spring of 2022. In the analysis, descriptive statistics as well as thematic analysis were used and the results were reflected against the theoretical framework, earlier research on global citizenship education and VET. The results indicate that global citizenship education is implicitly present in upper secondary VET in Finland. The current qualification requirements do not support structured, in-depth exploration of global issues in VET. Yet, global issues emerge in the everyday life of educational institutions, and they are mainly addressed through spontaneous discussions in connection to teaching and guidance work. Teachers perceive the importance of global issues above all in terms of understanding multiple perspectives, diversity and interdependence, relevance for the world of work in the future and acting as a responsible citizen. According to teachers, global issues affect all professions, and their importance will increase in the future. Educational equity would require that also vocational students have the possibility to learn competences necessary for societal participation and get acquainted with global issues during their education. Global citizenship education can provide both theoretical and practical tools for this.

Tapaustutkimuksessa tarkastellaan, millaisiin yhteiskunnallisiin asioihin työväentaiteen perinteeseen kiinnittyvä sekakuoro Koiton Laulu on 50 viime vuoden aikana taiteellisena toimijana halunnut vaikuttaa ja ottaa kantaa sekä miten ja minkälaiseen ihmisyyteen harrastusyhteisö voi kasvattaa jäseniään. Tutkimuksen aineistona ovat eri vuosikymmenillä kuoroon liittyneiden kuorolaisten (N = 16) teemoitellut yksilöhaastattelut, joihin saivat osallistua kaikki nykyiset kuorolaiset. Lisäksi 27 kuorolaista osallistui kahteen Erätauko-keskusteluun. Aineisto analysoitiin sisällönanalyysin keinoin ekososiaalisen sivistyksen ja osallisuuden käsitteiden kautta. Tulosten mukaan harrastajakuoro voi toimia yhteiskunnallisen vaikuttamisen kanavana ja oppimisen yhteisönä. Kuoron aktivismi on elänyt maailman muuttuessa. Se ylläpitää työväenliikkeen perinteisiä vaikuttamisen teemoja, mutta globaalit kysymykset, kuten ihmisoikeudet ja ympäristö, ovat kuorolaisille yhä tärkeämpiä. Ekososiaalisen sivistyksen ja sen ihmisyyden ihanteen teemat näkyvät ohjelmistossa ja toiminnassa mutta eivät aina toteudu kuoron sisäisessä toiminnassa. Kuorolaiset toivovat haasteita ratkottavan esimerkiksi dialogisilla menetelmillä. Ylisukupolvisen oppimisen ja yhteiskunnallisen vaikuttamisen yhteisönä kuoro perustuu turvalliseen, moniääniseen vuorovaikutukseen.

People’s participation in their own development is at the core of Communication forDevelopment. This study explores the potential and barriers for youth civic engagementespecially among the urban youth in Bhutan, a newly democratised country in theEastern Himalayas. Youth Initiative (YI), a project begun in the fall of 2013 by a groupof local youth and mentored by a local civil society organisation, the Bhutan Centre forMedia and Democracy, was chosen as the case study.The study analyses how and in which arenas youth enact their citizenship inBhutan; how young people themselves see their opportunities to participate indemocratic processes, analysing social, cultural and political factors influencing theirparticipation; whether their civic participation is critical or conforming to the existingsocial structures; how could Facebook foster democratic culture and youth civicengagement; and what is the link between youth civic engagement and social capital.Data were collected through three (3) focus group discussions with youth andnine (9) qualitative interviews with founders or steering committee members of the YI.The 19 young participants of the focus group discussions were between 17 to 28 yearsold, two of the groups consisting of YI representatives and one of unemployed youth.The interview data together with relevant textual sources were analysed through theconceptual framework of participatory democracy and social capital. Three distinctthemes could be identified through the qualitative thematic analysis: 1. Youth agency inthe public sphere; 2. Inequality and corruption; and 3. Cultural change. Particularlyinformal cultural barriers, such as respecting authorities and the lack of democraticculture to have an equal, critical dialogue in the public sphere were seen as mainobstacles for youth civic engagement in Bhutan.The findings indicate that youth civic engagement is a crucial component instrengthening social capital, particularly mutual trust across different groups andgenerations of people. The study argues that it is possible to create a space for intergenerational dialogue that encompasses and respects the diverse, but overlappingspheres of youth agency, democratic communication and social harmony.

Organic light emitting diodes (OLED) are developing rapidly and provide a huge market potential for signage, lighting and display applications. Cost efficient manufacturing of OLED components on different flexible substrates is under heavy investigation. In this paper focus is on polymer OLEDs and their non-vacuum solution processing using roll-to-roll (R2R) printing techniques. In this paper VTT's R2R manufacturing process capabilities for printed OLED components are presented. Several demonstrator concepts based on printed OLED technology are introduced including; printed OLED elements 1) in a smart package, 2) a 7-segment display integrated in a ID-1 card, 3) an electronics voting card with OLED indicator and 4) a 35 cm2 OLED lighting element printed on glass.
