As active‐matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) displays have rapidly become the primary choice for high performance mobile devices, reducing their power consumption to enable long battery life continues to be a very important challenge. In particular, the power consumption required to drive the display electronic circuits has recently increased significantly due to the industry trends for high resolution, high refresh rates, and high screen aspect ratio. In this paper, we propose a uni‐color pixel column design for the typical Pentile‐type pixel arrangement used for AMOLED displays in order to lower the driving power consumption. Considering a QHD+, 6.x inch‐diagonal smartphone application, the estimated power saving benefits of the proposed architecture are 10% for averaged image contents, and up to 42% for red/blue saturated images in the analog driving power consumption.
