Polygonaceae familyasında yer alan R. acetosella, çok yıllık otsu bir bitkidir ve Türkiye’de halk arasında sebze olarak tüketilmektedir. Bu çalışmada R. acetosella toprak üst kısımlarının etanol, su ve metanol ekstraktlarının antimikrobiyal (Escherichia coli, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus subtilis, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogenes, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus bakterileri ve Candida albicansmaya-mantarına karşı), antiradikal (DPPH, ABTS ve OH radikallerine karşı), antikanser (insan prostat kanseri (PC-3), insan kolon kanseri (HCT-116), insan yumurtalık kanseri (A2780) ve insan göğüs kanseri (MCF-7) hücre serilerine karşı) ve fitokimyasal özellikleri (yağda çözünen vitaminler, yağ asitleri, flavonoitler, fitosteroller, fenolik asitler, toplam fenolik bileşik, toplam flavonoit ve toplam proantosiyanidinler) incelenmiştir. Sonuçlarımıza göre R. acetosella ekstraktlarının ABTS, DPPH ve OH radikali yok etme testlerinde BHT’den daha yüksek aktiviteye sahip oldukları belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca bu bitkinin yüksek antimikrobiyal aktiviteye ve fitokimyasal içeriğe sahip olduğu, PC-3 insan prostat kanseri hücrelerine karşı etkili antikanser aktivite gösterdiği anlaşılmıştır. Aynı zamanda sunulan çalışma, R. acetosella ekstraktlarının in vitro antikanser aktivitesi ile ilgili ilk çalışma olma özelliği taşımaktadır.

Peptides are one of the leading groups of compounds that have been the subject of a great deal of biological research and still continue to attract researchers\" attention. In this study, a series of tripeptides based on tyrosine amino acids were synthesized by the triazine method. The cytotoxicity properties of all compounds against human cancer cell lines (MCF-7), ovarian (A2780), prostate (PC-3), and colon cancer cell lines (Caco-2) were determined by the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay method, and % cell viability and logIC50 values of the compounds were calculated. Significant decreases in cell viability were observed in all cells (p < 0.05). The comet assay method was used to understand that the compounds that showed a significant decrease in cell viability had this effect through DNA damage. Most of the compounds exhibited cytotoxicity by DNA damage mechanism. Besides, their interactions between investigated molecule groups with PDB ID: 3VHE, 3C0R, 2ZCL, and 2HQ6 target proteins corresponding to cancer cell lines, respectively, were investigated by docking studies. Finally, molecules with high biological activity against biological receptors were determined by ADME analysis.

Resumo Fundamentos Os efeitos protetores da fase de leitura aberta mitocondrial do 12S rRNA-c (MOTS-C) em doenças cardiovasculares foram demonstrados em vários estudos. Entretanto, há pouca documentação da relação entre MOTS-C e fluxo sanguíneo coronariano no infarto do miocárdio com supradesnivelamento do segmento ST (IAMCSST). Objetivo Nosso objetivo foi investigar o papel do MOTS-C, que é conhecido por ter propriedades citoprotetoras na patogênese do fenômeno de no-reflow, comparando a taxa de fluxo coronariano e os níveis de MOTS-C em pacientes com IAMCSST submetidos à ICP primária. Métodos 52 pacientes com IAMCSST e 42 pacientes sem estenose >50% nas artérias coronárias foram incluídos no estudo. Synthesis of four sulfa drug derivatives (L1–L4) and Zn(II) complexes derived from sulfonamide group antibiotic substances was carried out using the hydrothermal technique (HT) and their structures of the obtained compounds were explained using elemental analysis (EA), FT-IR and NMR (1H- and 13C-). Cytotoxic activities of four novel sulfa drug based-Schiff base compounds and their Zn(II) complexes were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay using MCF-7 (human breast cancer), Caco-2 (human colorectal adenocarcinoma), A2780 (human ovarian cancer) and LNCaP (human prostate adenocarcinoma) cell lines. LogIC50 values of all obtained compounds were computed with the Graphpad Prism 6 program after 24 h of treatment for MCF-7, Caco-2, A2780 and LNCaP cells. Comet assay experiments were performed using LogIC50 concentrations of all compounds to determine DNA damage. W. orientalis is a one-year herbaceous plant, located in the Lamiaceae family, and is called Ballıbaba in Turkish. In the presented study, the antimicrobial and anticancer properties of flowers extracts of endemic W. orientalis were investigated for the first time. Also, it was investigated the antiradical activity and phytochemical contents of this plant extracts. According to our study results, endemic W. orientalis flowers extract show very high anticancer activity against MCF-7, HCT-116 and LNCaP cancer cell lines, high antiradical activity against ABTS radicals, and effective antimicrobial activity against some microorganism caused infection in humans. In conclusion, endemic W. orientalis can be used as an anticancer and antimicrobial agent and this plant can be the subject of further studies in the field of herbal medicine.

In this study, we aimed to synthesize new peptide-substituted cyclotriphosphazenes from a series of tyrosine-based peptides and dioxyphenyl-substituted spirocyclotriphosphazenes, and to evaluate their in vitro cytotoxicity and genotoxicity activities. Genotoxicity studies were conducted to understand whether the cytotoxic compounds cause cell death through DNA damage. The structures of the novel series of phosphazenes were characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis, MS, 1D (31P,1H, and13C-APT NMR), and 2D (HETCOR) NMR spectroscopic techniques. In vitro cytotoxic activities were carried out against human breast (MCF-7), ovarian (A2780), prostate (PC-3), colon (Caco-2) cancer cell lines and human normal epithelial cell line (MCF-10A) at different concentrations by using an MTT assay. The compounds showed considerable reductions in cell viability against all human cancer cell lines. Especially, the compounds exhibited notable effects in A2780 cell lines (p50values ​​of the compounds in the A2780 cell line were calculated to be 1.914 µM forTG, 20.21 µM forTV, 20.45 µM forTA, 4.643 µM forTP, 5.615 µM forBTG, 1.047 µM forBTV, 27.02 µM forBTA, 0.7734 µM forBTP, 21.5 µM forDTG, 1.65 µM forDTV, 2.89 µM forDTAand 4.599 µM forDTP. DNA damage studies of the compounds were conducted by the comet assay method using tail length, tail density, olive tail moment, head length, and head density parameters, and the results showed that the cell death occurred through DNA damage mechanism. In a nutshell, these compounds show promising cytotoxic effects and can be considered powerful candidate molecules for pharmaceutical applications.

Tchihatchewia isatidea Boiss (Brassicaceae) is known among the public as “Reddish Bride”, “Paint and Bridal Flower”. Flower parts are used for painting and flowering branches for treatment of cough. In this study, anticancer properties of water, ethanol and methanol extracts of Tchihatchewia isatidea flower parts were investigated against human breast (MCF-7), human colon (HCT-116) and human prostate (LNCaP) cancer cell lines. Changes in the viability of cancer cells were detected by utilizing 3- (4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) method. Studies have shown that there is a statistically significant decrease in the cell viability of human breast cancer (MCF-7), colon (HCT-116) and prostate (LNCaP) cancer cells when extracts of T. isatidea water, ethanol and methanol are used.

Amino acid conjugates are described by the reaction of amino acids with bioactive organic groups such as vitamins, hormones, flavonoids, steroids, and sugars. In this study, 12 new conjugates were synthesized by reaction of cinnamic acid derivatives with various amino acids. Cytotoxic studies against four different human cancer cells (MCF7, PC-3, Caco-2, and A2780) were carried out by MTT assay method at five different concentrations. The structure-activity relationships based on the cell viability rates were evaluated. To compare the anticancer activities of the compounds using computational chemistry methods, they were docked against A2780 human ovarian cancer, Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF7), human prostate cancer (PC-3) and human colon epidermal adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cell lines and compared with the standard 5-Fluorouracil. The hexachlorocyclotriphosphaze compound (N3P3Cl6, HCCP) was reacted with excess (E)-(1-(4'-oxyphenyl)-3-(substituted-phenyl)prop-2-en-1-ones (2-11) to produce hexakis[(1-(4-oxyphenyl)-3-(substituted-phenyl)prop-2-en-1-one)]cyclotriphosphazenes (CP 2-11). The structures of products (CP 2-11) were confirmed using elemental analysis, FT-IR, MS spectral analysis as well as 31P, 1H and 13C-APT NMR techniques and their thermal properties determined by TGA and DSC techniques. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap and chemical reactivity identifiers were calculated and HOMO and LUMO images were viewed. According to the calculations, all the chemical potential values of CP 2-11 are negative and it shown that the molecules are stable. The in vitro cytotoxic of CP 2-11 investigated and their activity potentials were evaluated by molecular docking studies with Autodock Vina softwares. CP 2-11 compounds were found to demonstrate cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines (A2780, LNCaP and PC-3). The CP 2-11 compounds reduced the cell viability against all cancer cell lines in the range 36%-90% especially. The results showed that these compounds are powerful candidate molecules for pharmaceutical applications.

In the present study, chitosan oligomer was modified to sulfated chitosan oligomer (ShCsO) to mimic heparin. Its chemical structure was determined by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that the FT-IR spectrum band at 799 cm−1 corresponds to C–O–S and that at 1212 cm−1 corresponds to S=O bond stretching, which prove that the sulfate groups are incorporated into chitosan oligomer successfully. The antimicrobial activity of ShCsO against to Bacillus subtilis in 1% concentration was 89.1 ± 1.7%. The IC50 (μg/ml) of ShCsO was 67.75, 56.07, 85.47, and 84.68 for A2780, MCF-7, DU-145, and HepG2, respectively. The results show that this newly synthesized material is a potential candidate to heparin-like chitosan derivatives. According to the literature, it was the first time that chitosan oligomer was modified to mimic heparin.

Objective: Nateglinide, an oral anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, activates ATP-dependent potassium channels in pancreatic beta cells and induces insulin secretion. Numerous antidiabetic medicines, particularly metformin, are known to drastically reduce the viability of cancer cells. This study examined the effects of nateglinide on the DNA and viability of human ovarian (A2780), prostate (LNCaP), and colon (Caco-2) cancer cells. Materials and methods: Initially in the study, 1, 10, 100, and 1000 µM doses of nateglinide were administered for 24 hours to A2780, LNCaP, and Caco-2 cells. Aim Inflammation and oxidate stress are significant factors in the pathogenesis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of apocynin (APO), an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic drug, in the prophylaxis of neonatal hyperoxic lung injury. Method This experimental study included 40 neonatal rats divided into the control, APO, BPD, and BPD + APO groups. The control and APO groups were kept in a normal room environment, while the BPD and BPD + APO groups were kept in a hyperoxic environment. The rats in the APO and BPD + APO groups were administered intraperitoneal APO, while the control and BPD rats were administered ordinary saline. At the end of the trial, lung tissue was evaluated with respect to the degree of histopathological injury, apoptosis, oxidant and antioxidant capacity, and severity of inflammation. Result The BPD and BPD + APO groups exhibited higher mean histopathological injury and alveolar macrophage scores compared to the control and APO groups. Both scores were lower in the BPD + APO group in comparison to the BPD group. The BPD + APO group had a significantly lower average of TUNEL positive cells than the BPD group. The lung tissue examination indicated significantly higher levels of mean malondialdehyde (MDA), total oxidant status (TOS), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in the BPD group compared to the control and APO groups. While the TNF-α and IL-1β levels of the BPD + APO group were similar to that of the control group, the MDA and TOS levels were higher compared to the controls and lower compared to the BPD group. The BPD group demonstrated significantly lower levels/activities of mean total antioxidant status, glutathione reductase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase in comparison to the control and APO groups. While the mean antioxidant enzyme activity of the BPD + APO group was lower than the control group, it was significantly higher compared to the BPD group. Conclusion This is the first study in the literature to reveal through an experimental neonatal hyperoxic lung injury that APO, an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic drug, exhibits protective properties against the development of BPD.

Alcea calvertii (Boiss) Boiss. Malvaceae familyasinda yer alan cok yillik otsu endemik bir bitkidir. Alcea genusuna ait bitkiler bahcelerde sus bitkileri olarak yetistirilirler. Sunulan calismada, Alcea calvertii ciceklerinin su, etanol, metanol ve aseton ekstraktlarinin antiproliferatif, antimikrobiyal, antiradikal aktiviteleri ve fitokimyasal kompozisyonlari incelendi. A. calvertii ciceklerinin su, etanol, metanol ve aseton ekstraktlarinin standart antioksidan trolokstan daha dusuk oranda DPPH, ABTS ve OH radikali yok ettigi saptandi. A. calvertii ciceklerinin vitamin, sterol, flavonoit ve fenolik asitler icerdigi ve yuksek miktarda vanillik asit, gallik asit, katesin, δ-tokoferol, ergosterol ve vitamin D icerdigi belirlendi. A. calvertii su ekstraktinin MCF-7 ve HCT-116 kanser hucrelerine karsi diger ektstraktlardan daha iyi antiproliferatif aktivite gosterdigi gozlendi. LNCaP hucre serilerine karsi ise A. calvertii metanol ekstrakti daha yuksek antiproliferatif aktivite gosterdi.

Aims: 17α-hydroxylase deficiency is a rare form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) which is inherited autosomal recessive. It occurs result of a mutations in gene cytochrome (CYP)17A1, which encodes both 17α-hydroxylase and 17,20-lyase enzymes. The main clinical findings of the disease are delayed puberty, primary amenorrhea in females, and disorders of sex development (DSD) in males. Also, hypertension and hypokalemia can be seen in both sexes. In this paper, we describe the clinical and genetic changes of two patients with 46,XY and 46,XX karyotypes from two different families who were diagnosed with complete 17α-hydroxylase enzyme deficiency.Methods: In this study various methods including clinical, hormonal, radiological and genetic analyzes were used. Blood samples were obtained for genetic tests. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes, and coding sequence abnormalities of the CYP17 gene were assessed by polymerase chain reaction and direct sequencing analysis.Results: 17α-hydroxylase deficiency was diagnosed in 2 patients with 46,XX and 46,XY karyotype who presented with hypertension and delayed puberty. The pQ80 * (c.238C > T) mutation detected in both cases was evaluated as a novel variant.

Kidney ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury is an important health problem resulting in acute renal failure. After IR, the inflammatory and apoptotic process is triggered. The relation of Cannabinoid type 2 (CB2) receptor with inflammatory and apoptotic process has been determined. The CB2 receptor has been shown to be localized in glomeruli and tubules in human and rat kidney. Activation of CB2 receptor with JWH-133 has been shown to reduce apoptosis and inflammation. In this study, it was investigated whether CB2 activation with selective CB2 receptor agonist JWH-133 was protective against renal IR injury. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups (n = 45). Bilateral ischemia was treated to the IR group rat's kidneys for 45 min and then reperfusion was performed for 24 h. Three different doses of JWH-133 (0.2, 1 and 5 mg/kg) were administered to the treatment groups at the onset of ischemia. The JWH-133 application at three different doses decreased the glomerular and tubular damage. Additionally, in the renal tissue, nuclear factor-κB, tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1beta, and caspase-3 levels decreased immunohistochemically. Similarly, JWH-133 application decreased the serum tumour necrosis factor alpha, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, kidney injury molecule-1, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, Cystatin C, interleukin-18, interleukin-1beta, interleukin-6, and interleukin-10 levels. We found that JWH-133 and CB2 receptor activation had a curative effect against kidney IR damage. JWH-133 may be a new therapeutic agent in preventing kidney IR damage.

A series of chalcone compounds (2–11) were designed and synthesized to determine their cytotoxic effects. The structures of 2–11 were fully characterized by their physical and spectral data. The in vitro cytotoxic effects of 2–11 were evaluated against human ovarian cancer (A2780), breast cancer (MCF-7) and prostate cancer (PC-3 and LNCaP) cell lines. The activity potentials of compounds were further evaluated through molecular docking studies with AutoDock4 and Vina softwares. All the compounds (except compound 5) showed significant cytotoxic effects at high doses in all cancer cell lines. Among all the compounds studied, one compound i.e. compound 2 demonstrated dose-dependent activity, particularly against A2780/LNCaP cancer cell lines. The most effective compounds 8, 9, 10 and 11 reduced the cell viability of A2780, MCF-7, PC-3 and LNCaP cells by 50–98%, while other compounds 2, 4 and 7 reduced the cell viability of A2780 cells by 70–90% at concentrations of 50 and 100 μM.

Asprosin, a protein-based secretary product of white adipose tissue, stimulates appetite hepatic glucose production. It crosses blood-brain barrier and stimulates appetite center and causes sperm chemotaxis but exact role of this endogenous agent is not completely known. This study was conducted to investigate possible effects of central asprosin infusion on the hormones involved in the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular (HPT) axis and sperm cells. Spraque Dawley male rats were divided into four groups; control, sham, low asprosin (34) and high asprosin (68 nM) groups, (n = 10 for each group). Control group remain intact while a brain infusion kit was placed in the lateral ventricles of the rats in the sham group (artificial cerebrospinal fluid) and asprosin (34 and 68 nM) was infused for 14 days. At the end of the experiment, the hypothalamus, blood, and epididymis tissues of the rats were collected. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) mRNA and tissue protein levels were determined in the hypothalamus tissue by RT-PCR and Western Blot methods. Serum luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and testosterone levels were examined using the ELISA method from blood samples and sperm cells were examined in the epididymis tissue. GnRH mRNA and protein expressions of asprosin administered groups were higher than control and sham groups (p 0.05). Asprosin infusion was also found to increase serum FSH, LH, and testosterone levels (p 0.05). In addition, sperm density, motility, and progressive movement were observed to increase in asprosin administered groups (p 0.05). This study suggests that central asprosin stimulate the HPT axis and also epididymis tissue. Our results implicates potential role for asprosin in male infertility.

Introduction: Rare factor deficiencies are predominantly autosomal recessively inherited disorders with a frequency of approximately 1: 500000 to 1: 2000000 in the general population. They account for 3-5% of all inherited coagulation disorders. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the demographic features and clinical findings of 36 patients who were followed up and treated with the diagnosis of rare factor deficiency. Materials and Methods: A total of 36 patients aged between 0-16 years diagnosed with rare coagulation deficiencies were evaluated in terms of demographic, physical examination, clinical follow-up, and laboratory findings at the Dicle University Pediatric Hematology Unit. Ethics committee approval was obtained from Dicle University for the study on 16.03.2018 with decision no 115. Results: Rare factor deficiencies were diagnosed in 36 (35 %) of 103 patients who were followed up with coagulation disorders. Hemophilia a, hemophilia b, and von Willebrand disease constituted 67 of our patients. Familial consanguinity was present in 75, 6 %, and positive family history was found at 16.6% of the patients. 11 (32.4%) of our patients were diagnosed under the age of one year. Most of our patients diagnosed with factor X deficiency (38.8%). The most common symptoms were mucocutaneous bleeding (50%). Intracranial hemorrhage was detected in 7 (%19,5) patients. Conclusions: Early diagnosis and treatment are very important in the case of rare factor deficiency since severe bleeding complications such as intracranial hemorrhage may develop. Rare factor deficiencies are seen more frequently in places where consanguineous marriage is more common than the general population. Families should be informed about this issue, and family screening should be done early. Giriş: Nadir faktör eksiklikleri; çoğunlukla otozomal resesif geçiş gösteren,prevalansı 1/ 500.000 -1/2.000.000 arasında değişen pıhtılaşma faktör eksiklikleridir. Kalıtsal pıhtılaşma faktör eksikliklerinin %3-5’ini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, nadir faktör eksikliği tanısı ile takip ve tedavi ettiğimiz hastaların demografik özellikleri ve klinik bulguları değerlendirilmiştir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamızda, Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Çocuk Hematolojisi ve Onkolojisi biriminde nadir faktör eksikliği tanısı ile takip ve tedavi edilen, yaşları 0-16 yıl arasında değişen toplam 36 hasta değerlendirilmiştir. Hastaların demografik özellikleri,klinik izlem sonuçları ve labaratuar verileri incelenmiştir.Çalışma için Dicle Üniversitesi’nden 16.03.2018 tarihinde 115 nolu karar ile etik kurul onayı alınmıştır. Bulgular: Kalıtsal faktör eksikliği nedeniyle takip ve tedavi ettiğimiz 103 hastanın 36’sında (% 35) nadir faktör eksikliği tanısı mevcuttu. Hastalarımızın 67’sini hemofili A, hemofili B ve von Willebrand hastalığı oluşturuyordu. Anne ve babaların akrabalık oranı % 75,6 olup,aile öyküsü %16.6 olarak bulunmuştur. Hastalarımızın 11’i (%32,4) bir yaşından önce tanı almıştır.Hasta grubumuzda %38,8 oranı (14 hasta) ile FX eksikliği en fazla görülmektedir.Tanı anında en sık başvuru semptomunu %50 ile cilt-mukoza kanamaları oluşturmaktaydı. Ciddi kanamalardan intrakranial kanama yedi (%19,5) hastada görülmüştür. In this study, the effect of the 1,2,4-triazole derivatives on human colon cancer (HT29) was investigated in vitro and in vivo in rats. MTT test was applied to in in vitro experiments. In the present study, the antiradical, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of water and ethanol extracts of H. scabrum flowers were investigated. Their phytochemical contents and composition were also determined. The water and ethanol extracts are better scavenged ABTS (97.89 and 98.99%) and OH radicals (96.36 and 97.33%); the water extract is better scavenged DPPH radicals (91.66%) than the standard antioxidant BHA (94.33, 85.19, 90.16%, respectively). Flowers of H. scabrum contain flavonoids, phenolic acids, vitamins and phytosterols, dominated by catechin, vanillic acid, vitamin K and ergosterol. The extracts exhibit a strong cytotoxic activity against MCF-7, HCT-116, and LNCaP cancer cell lines. It is found that their antimicrobial activities are higher than the standard antibiotics. These results indicate that H. scabrum flowers have potent antiradical, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities.

The production of reactive oxygen species and inflammatory events are the underlying mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). It was determined that transient receptor potential melastatin-2 (TRPM2) channels and phospholipase A2 (PLA 2 ) enzymes were associated with inflammation and cell death. In this study, we investigated the effect of N-( p-amylcinnamoyl) anthranilic acid (ACA), a TRPM2 channel blocker, and PLA 2 enzyme inhibitor on renal IRI. A total of 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control, ischemia-reperfusion (I/R), I/R + ACA 5 mg, I/R + ACA 25 mg. In I/R applied groups, the ischemia for 45 minutes and reperfusion for 24 hours were applied bilaterally to the kidneys. In the I/R group, serum levels of the blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, cystatin C (CysC), kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and interleukin-18 increased. On histopathological examination of renal tissue in the I/R group, the formation of glomerular and tubular damage was seen, and it was detected that there was an increase in the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), caspase-3, total oxidant status (TOS), and oxidative stress index (OSI); and there was a decrease in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and catalase enzyme activity. ACA administration reduced serum levels of BUN, creatinine, CysC, KIM-1, NGAL, interleukin-18. In the renal tissue, ACA administration reduced histopathological damage, levels of caspase-3, MDA, TOS, and OSI; and it increased the level of TAC and catalase enzyme activity. It has been shown with the histological and biochemical results in this study that ACA is protective against renal IRI.

Salusin-β (Sal-β), which originates from preprosalusin, is a multifunctional hormone with a peptide structure. Sal-β exists in the hypothalamus and can stimulate the pituitary gland. The present study was conducted to determine the effects of Sal-β on hormones that play roles in the male reproductive system. Forty male Wistar Albino rats were used in the study. No infusions were performed on the control group, and infusions were applied to the infusion groups (artificial cerebrospinal fluid to the sham group, 2 and 20 nM Sal-β to the experimental group) through intracerebroventricular infusion for 7 days at 10 μl/hour rate. Although apelin and APJ receptors are determined in hypothalamus and thyroid gland its role in the hypothalamus–pituitary–thyroid (HPT) axis and mechanism of action on energy metabolism is not clear.
