Lean is een ontwerptheorie op zoek naar een theoretische onderbouwing. In deze bijdrage laat de auteur zien dat de Moderne Sociotechniek (MST), zoals ontwikkeld door Ulbo de Sitter, kan dienen als een dergelijke theoretische onderbouwing. De overeenkomsten zijn dus groter dan menigeen, inclusief De Sitter zelf, denkt. Daarnaast wijst hij ook op verschillen. Zo is het de verdienste van De Sitter, dat hij het vraagstuk van de lerende organisatie als een structuurvraagstuk geherformuleerd heeft. En het is de verdienste van Lean dat ze de rol van standaarden en routines in dit leerproces geherwaardeerd heeft.

We willen graag uitvinden hoe de eiwitten van het PTS op moleculair niveau werken, bijvoorbeeld wat de moleculaire verklaring is voor deze communicatieprocessen, of hoe de overdracht van de fosforylgroep tussen de eiwitten en tussen eiwit en suiker plaatsvindt. Hiervoor is het nodig om de structuren van de eiwitten in kwestie te bepalen. Dit betekent voor IIBchb bovendien dat we zouden willen weten hoe de fosforylering van IIBchb door IIAchb plaatsvindt, en hoe IIBchb vervolgens aan IICchb bindt en de suiker getransporteerd en gefosforyleerd wordt. Recently, it has been shown that the xyloside isoprimeverose is the natural substrate of the XyIP protein of Lactobacillus pentosus, a secondary transport protein belonging to the GPH-family of major facilitators.
