Objectives. The objective of the paper is to present the outcomes of the HepHIV 2019 conference, held in Bucharest under the Romanian EU Presidency and focusing on challenges of timely and integrated testing and care. Methods. The conference programme was put together by the organizing committee. It consisted of invited talks and peer-reviewed abstracts. Results. In all, 65 abstracts from 20 countries were presented during the conference, which had nearly 250 delegates, including high-profile political representation. The conference highlighted the need to shift towards further disease integration because of the epidemiological characteristics of the hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), HIV, sexually transmitted infection (STIs) and tuberculosis (TB) epidemics in the WHO European region. Integration should be a priority in the response to the epidemics to better reach key populations and to ensure better testing coverage. This relates to both the integration of services in shared care models and the integration of different settings and stakeholders in national strategies. Conclusions. The conference demonstrated the need for greater political support for the policy changes required to implement integration. Testing normalization efforts are key to maximizing the impact of integration efforts. The conference call to action can help to guide developments in testing and linkage-to-care interventions across the European region. Objectives: Dermatophytes are a challenging group of fungi that infect the keratinized tissues. The taxonomy of these fungi has changed recently with the reclassification of some species and description of new ones. However, many clinical laboratories still base the identification of dermatophytes on their phenotype. Since dermatophytes are very pleomorphic, macro and micromorphology are often insufficient to reach a correct classification and may lead to misidentifications. The identification based on MALDI-TOF relies on the protein profile of the microorganism. Thus, this study aims to summarize our current laboratorial experience of dermatophyte identification using MALDI-TOF MS. Methods: From january to april 2018, 95 dermatophytes isolates, collected from human keratinized samples and also from quality control programs were characterized by phenotypic analysis, and by VITEK MS V3.2 bioMerieux. Before identification procedure, isolates were inoculated on Sabouraud Dextrose agar plates and incubated at 27°C during 5 to 10 days. Species were identified taking into account clinical features, as well as cultural, microscopic and physiological characteristics. Prior to MALDI-TOF MS analysis, the samples were pre-treated according to the manufacturer’s protocol for filamentous fungi. Molecular identification by sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) was performed in 34 of those isolates Results: Through phenotypic analysis eight different species were identified (54 Trichophyton rubrum; 4 T.soudanense; 22 T.interdigitale; 1 T.mentagrophytes; 3 T.tonsurans; 7 Microsporum canis; 3 M.audouinii; 1 Microsporum spp.- (non canis or audouinii). MALDI-TOF analysis showed an identification agreement in 80 cases (84,2%) with a confidence level of 99,9%. Eight isolates showed divergent identification results: three T.rubrum were identified as T.violaceum, three T.soudanense were identified as T.rubrum, one T.mentagrophytes was identified as T.interdigitale and one T.tonsurans was identified as T.rubrum. In four cases MALDI-TOF analysis did not get a profile. The ITS sequencing analysis of discrepant results corroborated the MALDI-TOF identification in five of them. On the other hand, T.soudanense was only identified by phenotypic analysis since MALDI-TOF and ITS sequencing result was T.rubrum. MALDITOF identification of T.violaceum was not confirmed by ITS sequencing that identified T. rubrum instead, in accordance with the phenotypic identification. Conclusion: Correct identification of dermatophytes to species level requires sequencing of the ITS, LSU, and/or betatubulin regions. The implementation of this methodology in a clinical laboratory is expensive and time consuming. MALDI-TOF identification is a good option for dermatophytes’ identification performed in laboratory routine, since costs of consumables as well as time of sample preparation are lower than for PCR analysis and doesn’t require long training period as phenotypic identification does. In this study, however, both methods failed to identify some species variants like Trichophyton soudanense or T. violaceum. The combined use of both MALDI-TOF and phenotypic methods seems to be the better approach for dermatophytes’ identification since some species show significant phenotypic and clinical differences. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

The MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) is the latest training model offered by higher education institutions. As a teaching and learning approach that is free, and therefore devoid of economic or social barriers at the onset, it looks quite promising. But is it so? In order to gain greater understanding of the focus of current research and to indicate future research guidelines that may provide answers to some pertinent questions, this study aims to analyze the scientific production based on SCOPUS and carried out under the keywords “Massive Open Online Course” and “Higher Education”. Using the methodology of social network a nalysis in order to get a “picture” of relations between authors who publish in this field, the results of the analysis show that interest in this issue was first expressed in 2013 and is currently on the rise, raising more and more interest. The graphical analysis of the interacti ve network reveals little interaction among authors, but most publications are co -authored by four researchers. Also, the network indicators analysis reveals that the dens ity and centrality are very low. Os MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) são a mais recente abordagem de oferta formativa, dinamizada por instituições de ensino superior. Tratando-se de uma abordagem de ensino e aprendizagem aberta, e portanto, desprovida de barreiras económicas, culturais ou sociais, à partida, parece bastante promissora. Mas será mesmo assim? Como forma de obter maior compreensão sobre este foco de investigação e as dimensões mais exploradas, este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a produção científica, com base SCOPUS, levada a cabo sob as palavras chave “Massive Open Online Course” e “Higher Education”. Além de uma análise estatístico-descritiva é também usada a metodologia de Análise de Redes Sociais com vista a obter um “retrato” das relações entre os autores interessados e que publicam sobre este domínio. Os resultados da análise realizada revelam que o interesse por esta temática teve a sua primeira expressão efetiva em 2013 e está atualmente em ascensão, estando atualmente a suscitar cada vez mais interesse. A produção científica por autor é ainda pouco notória, mas existe uma fonte de publicação maioritariamente escolhida pelos investigadores, não sendo, no entanto, nem a mais citada nem a que tem maior índice SJR. A história natural da Hidrocefalia é conhecida. Quando não tratada, está associada a taxas de mortalidade da ordem dos 80 a 90%, sendo também elevada a incidência de complicações. A introdução dos shunts no tratamento constituiu um avanço inegável, reduzindo a mortalidade de forma significativa (7,5 a 30%).O objectivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar uma amostra de crianças que foram submetidas a colocação de shunt para tratamento de hidrocefalia entre 01/01/90 e 31/12/97.Nas 64 crianças incluídas no estudo foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros: sexo; idade na La intervenção; causa de hidrocefalia; terapêutica efectuada (médica/cirúrgica); tipo de shunt; patologia associada; complicações após cirúrgia; tempo de internamento; número de revisões; tempo decorrido entre a introdução do shunt e a revisão; causa da revisão; evolução.Das 64 crianças estudadas, 39 (61%) eram do sexo masculino. As causas de hidrocefalia foram: congénita (45% dos casos, metade dos quais associada a mielomeningocelo); pós-hemorrágica (26% dos casos, dos quais 62% relacionados com prematuridade); tumoral (17%); pós infecciosa (11%); desconhecida (1%). O shunt utilizado foi na maioria dos casos (91%) ventrículo-peritoneal.48% das crianças foram submetidas à 1.ª intervenção cirúrgica até aos 3 meses de idade cronológica.Em 39% dos casos foram registadas complicações após a cirurgia, sendo as complicações infecciosas as mais frequentes (76% dos casos, dos quais 58% corresponderam a meningites, 26% a sépsis e 16% a pneumonias). Nas meningites o agente identificado mais frequente foi o Staphylococcus epidermidis. Foram efectuadas revisões de shunt em 27 crianças (42%). A causa mais frequente para revisão do shunt foi a obstrução (32%). 53% das crianças apresentam Atraso de Desenvolvimento Psico-Motor (ADPM) moderado a grave (surdez, amaurose, hemiparésia; incapacidade para marcha).Os autores realçam o facto de, neste grupo de crianças, a causa mais frequente de hidrocefalia estar relacionada com patologia congénita, de diagnóstico pré-natal. As complicações mais frequentes após a colocação de shunt foram as infecciosas, tendo como agentes etiológicos os habitualmente identificados nestas situações.Também concordando com o descrito na literatura, as revisões de shunt ocorreram precocemente, na sua maioria nos primeiros seis meses.Esta patologia continua a ser uma situação grave, associada a taxas importantes de morbilidade e mortalidade., Portuguese Journal of Pediatrics, vol. 33 n.º 1 (2002)

No atual contexto económico de crise, o mercado de luxo conseguiu cresceu, porque muitos dos clientes de luxo mantêm o poder financeiro e conservam a sua ambição por luxo. No entanto, num mercado caracterizado por intensa concorrência não é suficiente ter uma marca forte, é imprescindível acrescentar valor e o marketing holístico pode contribuir fortemente para esse resultado. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste artigo é analisar as especificidades do mercado de luxo comparativamente com o mercado de bens comuns, e avaliar o nível de valorização e aplicação pelas marcas de luxo de cada uma das quatro dimensões do marketing holístico (marketing relacional, marketing interno, marketing performance e marketing integrado). Para o efeito foi escolhido o setor de turismo de luxo português, mais concretamente, os hotéis de luxo. Os dados foram recolhidos por via da realização de entrevistas aos diretores hoteleiros ou gestores de marketing de seis hotéis de luxo localizados em Portugal e foram tratados seguindo uma metodologia qualitativa de análise temática de conteúdo por recurso ao software MAXqda®. Os resultados denotam que o mercado de luxo é mais complexo de gerir do que o mercado de bens comuns e realçam que os hotéis de luxo privilegiam cada uma das dimensões inerentes à filosofia de marketing holístico. Este artigo faculta informações importantes que podem contribuir para as recentes teorias e práticas de marketing no mercado de luxo.

A disciplina de Prática de Ensino do Programa de Pós-Graduação em CiênciasBiológicas: Bioquímica da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul foi instituída com oobjetivo principal de propiciar, aos alunos de pós-graduação bolsistas de Demanda Social daCAPES, a oportunidade de realizar o Estágio Obrigatório de Docência em disciplinas degraduação de caráter eletivo/facultativo ou obrigatório. O objetivo principal deste trabalhoconsistiu na avaliação do impacto do Estágio Docente sobre o ensino de graduação, por meioda análise de 30 projetos propostos e implementados pelos alunos de pós-graduação eentrevista dos professores responsáveis pela disciplina de graduação onde os projetos foramimplementados. Os resultados mostraram que 9 dos 30 projetos foram total ou parcialmenteincorporados às disciplinas de graduação onde foram aplicados, ou a outras disciplinas, sendoque um deles deu origem a uma nova disciplina. A maioria dos projetos centrou-se em novasabordagens experimentais, levando aos alunos de graduação a experiência obtida pelos pósgraduandosem suas pesquisas. Os resultados indicam que o estágio de docência, quandoexercido de forma criativa, além de auxiliar na formação do futuro docente, pode contribuirsignificativamente para a melhoria do ensino de graduação.
