Abstract Given the large volumes of sensitive information transmitted over the Internet, digital signatures are essential for verifying message authenticity and integrity. A key challenge is minimizing computationally intensive operations, such as modular inverses, without compromising security. In this research, we propose the DSADH $$\pi$$ algorithm, which introduces a confusion step directly into the signature itself, rather than only applying it to the message, using a dynamic substitution box. It is generated with the number pi and changes with each signing. In addition, to enhance security, this work uses a 2048-bit prime, double the length frequently used. This proposal induces chaotic behavior in the signature, making it highly sensitive to any changes in the signer’s private key or message content, thereby enhancing authentication and integrity verification. Moreover, the proposed algorithm computes a single multiplicative modular inverse during verification and none during signing, unlike other approaches that require inverse computation in both stages. Since the required inverse is for the Diffie-Hellman session key, it always exists and can be precomputed per communication rather than per message. Consequently, DSADH $$\pi$$ is on average 45 times faster than DSA. Additionally, we introduce a method to assess signature security by constructing images from signature bytes generated by slight changes to the signer’s private key and message. Then, their chaotic behavior is evaluated with cryptographic metrics.

Depression is a mental disorder that depicts a wide variety of symptoms, including mood and cognitive alterations, as well as recurrent thoughts of death or suicide. It could become the second leading cause of premature death or disability worldwide. Treatments with conventional antidepressants have several limitations in terms of effectiveness, side effects, and high costs. Therefore, medicinal plants such as Mucuna pruriens are potent candidates for treating depressive disorders. This review shows a compendium of evidence supporting the antidepressant effect of the Mucuna pruriens plant in diverse animal models. This includes the mechanisms of action underlying the antidepressant activity of the treatment concerning dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, cortisol, and inflammation. Clinical trials are needed to study the efficacy and safety of Mucuna pruriens for depression.

El impacto de la ganadería en el medio ambiente ocasiona modificaciones en diversos factores, que afectan la calidad del suelo. Por tanto, el objetivo de este estudio es conocer la calidad de las clases de tierras local con y sin pastoreo a través de sus propiedades físicas y químicas. La metodología consistió en recolectar muestras de suelos con pastoreo de ganado y en áreas que se han conservado libres de ganado. Se evaluaron 14 variables fisicoquímicas. Adicionalmente se recolectó información del saber local del suelo por los ganaderos a través de entrevistas. Se realizó un análisis de varianza para identificar diferencias y similitudes entre clases de tierra local y uso de suelo. Se aplicó el análisis de componentes principales para encontrar variables más representativas, para posteriormente realizar un agrupamiento por similitudes entre los sitios de muestreo, además, se les aplicó el subíndice de uso sustentable del suelo. Los entrevistados reconocen tres clases de tierra: Barro, Charanda y Tierra Café. El análisis de varianza mostró que las variables calcio (Ca), capacidad de intercambio catiónico, densidad aparente, magnesio (Mg), materia orgánica y fosforo (P) tuvieron diferencia (p-value < 0.05) entre clases de tierra local y uso de suelo. El análisis multivariado determino tres grupos y calidad de suelos se definen como marginal, sensible y aceptable, la Tierra Café fue la de mayor calidad y es de uso permanente para la ganadería.

Learning in asynchronous online environments has gained importance over the last several decades, and educational environment shifts from the COVID-19 pandemic appear to have increased this need. Science educators and students need information about which approaches work in the asynchronous environment where informal feedback tends to be reduced, compared to other teaching modalities. In this study, we asynchronously implemented a learning module across 5 institutions that guided students (N = 199) from prescriptive data analysis through guided inquiry and eventually to open inquiry. The module focuses on the science behind climate change. Students work with the same authentic data sets used by professional scientists to examine geologic history and causes of climate change. By analyzing contemporary atmospheric carbon dioxide and temperature data and then using the 800,000-year record available from the Vostok ice core proxy record of atmospheric properties, students identify the causes of climate change and discover the unprecedented nature of recent atmospheric changes. Using a pre/post-module assessment, we demonstrate improvement in students' understanding of climate change processes and statistical methods used to analyze data. However, there was no evidence that the module develops students' scientific reasoning about the relationship between causation and correlation. Students maintained that correlation is not causation, even when a robust causal mechanism (i.e., the greenhouse effect) explains the link between atmospheric carbon dioxide and temperature. Finally, our analysis indicated that generally, anxiety about climate change was reduced during the module, such that students become less anxious about the climate change the more they learn about it. However, science-denying students experienced much higher anxiety about climate change than students who accepted the scientific consensus about climate change. Climate science-dissenting students were so few in this study that a statistical comparison was not possible, but this intriguing finding warrants further investigation of the role of anxiety in science denial. Mainly, this study demonstrates how asynchronous online learning environments can indeed support the achievement of learning objectives related to conducting authentic science, such as increasing understanding of climate change and statistical concepts, all while not provoking anxiety about climate change.

Pathogenic bacteria trigger complex molecular interactions in hosts that are characterized mainly by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as an inflammation-associated response. To counteract oxidative damage, cells respond through protective mechanisms to promote resistance and avoid tissue damage and infection; among these cellular mechanisms the activation or inhibition of the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is frequently observed. The transcription factor Nrf2 is considered the master regulator of several hundred cytoprotective and antioxidant genes. Under normal conditions, the Keap1/Nrf2 signaling protects the cellular environment by sensing deleterious oxygen radicals and inducing the expression of genes coding for proteins intended to neutralize the harmful effects of ROS. However, bacteria have developed strategies to harness Nrf2 activity to their own benefit, complicating the host response. This review is aimed to present the most recent information and probable mechanisms employed by a variety of bacteria to modulate the Keap1/Nrf2 activity in order to survive in the infected tissue. Particularly, those utilized by the Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Listeria monocytogenes, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis as well as by the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Helicobacter pylori, Legionella pneumophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhimurium. We also discuss and highlight the beneficial impact of the Keap1/Nrf2 antioxidant and anti-inflammatory role in bacterial clearance.

One of the issues addressed by machine learning, with applications in various disciplines or fields such as the health sector and the agricultural sector among others, involves data classification. For this purpose, various models within supervised learning have been proposed and developed that allow for the classification of these data. However, one of the implications of the No-Free-Lunch theorems is that there is no optimal general-purpose model, i.e. there is no classifier model that achieves the best results for all problems presented. Hence the importance of proposing and implementing new classifier models, evaluating their performance, and comparing them with other classifier models in order to achieve models with good results in specific problems. This work presents a new classifier model that, by constructing hyperplanes from the training set, generates a decision tree and partitions the dimensional space. The proposed model was applied to different problems such as the [Formula: see text] logical function problem, where the proposed model managed to solve the problem, it was also applied to the Iris Dataset where one of the trees generated by the model managed to classify with 100% accuracy the test set, and finally, the proposed model was applied to the Pima Indians Diabetes Database and compared with other models using the accuracy value. The proposed model obtained an accuracy of 81.81%, achieving the best result in the same way as the Random Forest Classifier. The results obtained in this work show that the proposed model manages to partition the dimensional space adequately from the training set and thus competitively classify the data with other state-of-the-art models.

One of the most challenging robotic manipulator designs is finding an appropriate balance between the shaking force and shaking moment because this reduces vibrations. Several approaches have been introduced in the last decades; nevertheless, some assumptions must be established to make such a balance. In this paper, a dynamic balancing approach is proposed. The main novelty is the no dependence on specific trajectories to be executed by the manipulator, which allows finding a design with a similar tradeoff in the balancing under robot configuration changes. Also, the proposal incorporates mass distribution and link shape in a single design procedure. The proposal is stated as a constrained nonlinear optimization problem and applied to a hybrid serial-parallel robotic manipulator. The use of different bio-inspired algorithms and one gradient one in the solution of the balancing problem reveals that differential evolution finds the most suitable design. Besides, comparative simulation results of the obtained design with other design approaches show that the obtained design presents the most suitable tradeoff between the shaking force and the shaking moment when the manipulator executes tasks with different operating velocities.

Resumen: El melanoma subungueal es un tumor poco común, con peor pronóstico comparado con los de otras localizaciones. Corresponde al 1-23% de los melanomas, según la población. El objetivo de este estudio fue describir las características clínicas e histopatológicas del melanoma subungueal en la población mexicana. Se incluyeron 57 pacientes con melanoma subungueal (19% de los 303 melanomas totales), con una mediana de edad de 71 años. La localización predominante fueron los miembros inferiores (52,6% de los melanomas subungueales) y el primer dedo (75,4% de los casos). El subtipo histológico más frecuente fue el acral lentiginoso (50,9%). La mediana de Breslow fue de 3 mm. El estadio IA fue el más frecuente (28,1%). Se encontró una tasa de recurrencia del 19,3% y de metástasis del 8,8%. Las características clínico-patológicas fueron semejantes a lo descrito en la literatura. Es importante realizar un diagnóstico y tratamiento tempranos de cara a mejorar su pronóstico. Abstract: Although subungual melanoma is uncommon, it is associated with worse outcomes than melanomas in other locations and accounts for 1% to 23% of all melanomas, depending on the population. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical and histopathologic features of subungual melanoma in a Mexican population. We identified 303 patients with melanoma, and of these, 19% (57 patients with a median age of 71 years) had subungual melanoma. The main sites affected were the lower limbs (52.6%) and the toe (75.4%). The most common histologic subtype was acral lentiginous melanoma (50.9%). Median Breslow thickness was 3 mm, and stage IA tumors were the most common (in 28.1% of patients). Recurrence and metastasis occurred in 19.3% and 8.8% of patients, respectively. The clinical and histopathologic features identified are similar to those described in the literature. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for improving prognosis.

Las estructuras criminales que manejan el tráfico internacional de drogas en el hemisferio occidental están mal caracterizadas e interpretadas en las políticas y estrategias internacionales antidrogas. Su caracterización como cárteles y el papel que presuntamente desempeñan en el tráfico internacional de drogas y la cadena de valor se basa en premisas ideológicas engañosas difundidas por políticos, medios de comunicación y organismos de control penal. Al mismo tiempo, las políticas internacionales antidrogas recompensan a los organismos oficiales de control penal con la expansión continua de sus poderes y presupuestos para llevar a cabo intervenciones extraterritoriales, aumentando la violencia organizada, la corrupción y la infracción de los derechos y libertades fundamentales. En las conclusiones se discuten directrices más fértiles para las políticas internacionales antidrogas en el futuro.

PURPOSEBreast cancer mortality rates in Latin America (LA) are higher than those in the United States, possibly because of advanced disease presentation, health care disparities, or unfavorable molecular subtypes. The Latin American Cancer Research Network was established to address these challenges and to promote collaborative clinical research. The Molecular Profiling of Breast Cancer Study (MPBCS) aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of LA participants with locally advanced breast cancer (LABC).PATIENTS AND METHODSThe MPBCS enrolled 1,449 participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay. Through harmonized procedures and quality assurance measures, this study evaluated clinicopathologic characteristics, neoadjuvant chemotherapy response, and survival outcomes according to residual cancer burden (RCB) and the type of surgery.RESULTSOverall, 711 and 480 participants in the primary surgery and neoadjuvant arms, respectively, completed the 5-year follow-up period. Overall survival was independently associated with RCB (worse survival for RCBIII-adjusted hazard ratio, 8.19, P < .001, and RCBII [adjusted hazard ratio, 3.69, P < .008] compared with RCB0 [pathologic complete response or pCR]) and type of surgery (worse survival in mastectomy than in breast-conserving surgery [BCS], adjusted hazard ratio, 2.97, P = .001). The hormone receptor–negative-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2–positive group had the highest proportion of pCR (48.9%). The analysis of the ASCO Quality Oncology Practice Initiative breast module revealed high compliance with pathologic standards but lower adherence to treatment administration standards. Notably, compliance with trastuzumab administration varied widely among countries (33.3%-88.7%).CONCLUSIONIn LABC, we demonstrated the survival benefit of BCS and the prognostic effect of the response to available neoadjuvant treatments despite an important variability in access to key treatments. The MPBCS represents a significant step forward in understanding the real-world implementation of oncologic procedures in LA.

PurposesMost molecular-based published studies on breast cancer do not adequately represent the unique and diverse genetic admixture of the Latin American population. Searching for similarities and differences in molecular pathways associated with these tumors and evaluating its impact on prognosis may help to select better therapeutic approaches.Patients and methodsWe collected clinical, pathological, and transcriptomic data of a multi-country Latin American cohort of 1,071 stage II-III breast cancer patients of the Molecular Profile of Breast Cancer Study (MPBCS) cohort. The 5-year prognostic ability of intrinsic (transcriptomic-based) PAM50 and immunohistochemical classifications, both at the cancer-specific (OSC) and disease-free survival (DFS) stages, was compared. Pathway analyses (GSEA, GSVA and MetaCore) were performed to explore differences among intrinsic subtypes.ResultsPAM50 classification of the MPBCS cohort defined 42·6% of tumors as LumA, 21·3% as LumB, 13·3% as HER2E and 16·6% as Basal. Both OSC and DFS for LumA tumors were significantly better than for other subtypes, while Basal tumors had the worst prognosis. While the prognostic power of traditional subtypes calculated with hormone receptors (HR), HER2 and Ki67 determinations showed an acceptable performance, PAM50-derived risk of recurrence best discriminated low, intermediate and high-risk groups. Transcriptomic pathway analysis showed high proliferation (i.e. cell cycle control and DNA damage repair) associated with LumB, HER2E and Basal tumors, and a strong dependency on the estrogen pathway for LumA. Terms related to both innate and adaptive immune responses were seen predominantly upregulated in Basal tumors, and, to a lesser extent, in HER2E, with respect to LumA and B tumors.ConclusionsThis is the first study that assesses molecular features at the transcriptomic level in a multicountry Latin American breast cancer patient cohort. Hormone-related and proliferation pathways that predominate in PAM50 and other breast cancer molecular classifications are also the main tumor-driving mechanisms in this cohort and have prognostic power. The immune-related features seen in the most aggressive subtypes may pave the way for therapeutic approaches not yet disseminated in Latin America.Clinical trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov (Identifier: NCT02326857).

This article discusses theoretical questions related to the notion of social deviance, a concept that has been a pillar of criminology and sociology since the mid-20th century. We argue that social deviance is not equipped with adequate analytic devices to satisfactorily describe social actions labelled as transgressions. This discussion reconsiders the notion of social deviance, recasting its theoretical significance and use in the field of criminology. In its place, we advance the category of social divergence, highlighting its greater analytical power to address social actions that trigger penal control interventions. Social divergence is a novel conceptual contribution in the tradition of the sociology of conflict. Its purpose is to offer an analytical model of social conflicts and their inner workings as key elements to describe, analyze and improve our understanding of their interactions with penal control systems from a criminological perspective. Este artículo expone una discusión crítica de la noción de desviación social, un concepto que ha sido pilar de la teoría criminológica y sociológica desde mediados del siglo XX. Sostenemos que la desviación social no está adecuadamente provista como dispositivo analítico para describir satisfactoriamente las acciones sociales que se etiquetan como transgresiones. La discusión reconsidera los alcances de la noción de desviación social, reformulando su significado teórico y su uso en el campo de la criminología. En su lugar, proponemos la categoría de divergencia social, destacando su mayor potencia analítica para abordar las acciones sociales que desencadenan intervenciones de control penal. La divergencia social es una contribución conceptual novedosa en la tradición de la sociología del conflicto. Su propósito es ofrecer un modelo analítico de los conflictos sociales y su funcionamiento interno como elementos clave para describir, analizar y mejorar nuestra comprensión de sus interacciones con los sistemas de control penal desde una perspectiva criminológica.

La insuficiencia cardiaca crónica sigue siendo unas de las principales causas de afectación en el funcionamiento y en la calidad de vida de las personas que la presentan, así como una de las primeras causas de mortalidad en nuestro país y en todo el mundo. México tiene una alta prevalencia de factores de riesgo para desarrollar insuficiencia cardiaca, tales como hipertensión arterial, diabetes y obesidad, lo que hace imprescindible contar con un documento basado en la evidencia que brinde recomendaciones a los profesionales de la salud involucrados en el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de estos pacientes. Este documento establece la guía de práctica clínica (GPC) elaborada por iniciativa de la Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiología (SMC) en colaboración con la Agencia Iberoamericana de Desarrollo y Evaluación de Tecnologías en Salud, con la finalidad de establecer recomendaciones basadas en la mejor evidencia disponible y consensuadas por un grupo interdisciplinario y multicolaborativo de expertos. Cumple con estándares internacionales de calidad, como los descritos por el Institute of Medicine de los Estados Unidos de América (IOM), el National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) del Reino Unido, la Intercollegiate Network for Scottish Guideline Development (SIGN) de Escocia y la Guidelines International Network (G-I-N). El grupo de desarrollo de la guía se integró de manera interdisciplinaria con el apoyo de metodólogos con experiencia en revisiones sistemáticas de la literatura y en el desarrollo de GPC. Se llevó a cabo y se condujo metodología de panel Delphi modificado para lograr un nivel de consenso adecuado en cada una de las recomendaciones contenidas en esta GPC. Esperamos que este documento contribuya para la mejor toma de decisiones clínicas y se convierta en un punto de referencia para los clínicos que manejan pacientes con insuficiencia cardiaca crónica en todas sus etapas clínicas, y de esta manera logremos mejorar la calidad en la atención clínica, aumentar la calidad de vida de los pacientes y disminuir las complicaciones de la enfermedad.

Infiltration is the process by which surface water enters soil, is part of the regulatory ecosystem services, and is of the greatest importance for environmental and agricultural management. Its spatial and temporal variability is particular for each soil type and intended usage. The objective was to determine which of the land types and land uses provide the most ecosystem services based on their water infiltration and its spatial prediction. This study evaluated the Sahuayo River basin in the state of Michoacán, Mexico, on agricultural and agricultural land uses (Luvisols, Vertisols, and Leptosols). Sixty soil samples were collected at stratified random points, and their organic matter content, texture, and bulk density were assessed via laboratory methods. An analysis of variance with multiple means comparisons was performed on the infiltration variable results. The SCORPAN model was used to predict the infiltration spatial distribution using three machine learning algorithms (with default and hyperparameter tuning) and 11 variables. These variables correspond to topographic attributes, climate, soil properties, and remote sensing data. The model’s predictive power was evaluated using its mean square root error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) values. The nonagricultural Leptosols had the highest infiltration capacity (fp=2210.6 mm⋅h−1), whereas the agricultural Vertisols had the lowest infiltration capacity (fp=275.8 mm⋅h−1). Both combinations significantly differed from each other. The highest precision model was recorded with the artificial neural network algorithm, which reported the lowest MAE and RMSE values for both variable selection methods in their default configurations and with hyperparameter adjustment.

Aging is emerging as a druggable target with growing interest from academia, industry and investors. New technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced screening techniques, as well as a strong influence from the industry sector may lead to novel discoveries to treat age-related diseases. The present review summarizes presentations from the 7th Annual Aging Research and Drug Discovery (ARDD) meeting, held online on the 1st to 4th of September 2020. The meeting covered topics related to new methodologies to study aging, knowledge about basic mechanisms of longevity, latest interventional strategies to target the aging process as well as discussions about the impact of aging research on society and economy. More than 2000 participants and 65 speakers joined the meeting and we already look forward to an even larger meeting next year. Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) are relevant agents in bacterial adaptation and evolutionary diversification. Stable appropriation of these DNA elements depends on host factors, among which are the nucleoid-associated proteins (NAPs). NAPs are highly abundant proteins that bind and bend DNA, altering its topology and folding, thus affecting all known cellular DNA processes from replication to expression. Even though NAP coding genes are found in most prokaryotic genomes, their functions in host chromosome biology and xenogeneic silencing are only known for a few NAP families. Less is known about the occurrence, abundance, and roles of MGE-encoded NAPs in foreign elements establishment and mobility. In this study, we used a combination of comparative genomics and phylogenetic strategies to gain insights into the diversity, distribution, and functional roles of NAPs within the class Acidithiobacillia with a special focus on their role in MGE biology. Acidithiobacillia class members are aerobic, chemolithoautotrophic, acidophilic sulfur-oxidizers, encompassing substantial genotypic diversity attributable to MGEs. Our search for NAP protein families (PFs) in more than 90 genomes of the different species that conform the class, revealed the presence of 1,197 proteins pertaining to 12 different NAP families, with differential occurrence and conservation across species. Pangenome-level analysis revealed 6 core NAP PFs that were highly conserved across the class, some of which also existed as variant forms of scattered occurrence, in addition to NAPs of taxa-restricted distribution. Core NAPs identified are reckoned as essential based on the conservation of genomic context and phylogenetic signals. In turn, various highly diversified NAPs pertaining to the flexible gene complement of the class, were found to be encoded in known plasmids or, larger integrated MGEs or, present in genomic loci associated with MGE-hallmark genes, pointing to their role in the stabilization/maintenance of these elements in strains and species with larger genomes. Both core and flexible NAPs identified proved valuable as markers, the former accurately recapitulating the phylogeny of the class, and the later, as seed in the bioinformatic identification of novel episomal and integrated mobile elements.

The negative–positive transformation (NPT) is a widely employed technique for encrypting images on pixel blocks, commonly integrated into cryptosystems compatible with compression algorithms. The existing literature on NPT analysis can be categorized into two types: theoretical analyses with results that apply to any image, primarily focused on compression compatibility, and numerical analyses that report empirical results from specific images, some without explaining the causes of the security results, while others are only related to the compression performance. Consequently, there is a significant gap in understanding the implications of applying the NPT for data protection. For that reason, this paper conducts a theoretical statistical analysis, presenting, demonstrating, and verifying six theorems to understand the security contributions of NPT. Two theorems examine the shape of the image histogram and the scatter plot of adjacent pixels after the NPT application. The subsequent four theorems explore the influence of NPT on the mean, variance, covariance, and correlation within each pixel block. The findings indicate that the NPT generates images with symmetrical histograms, the correlation of pixel blocks remains invariant, and distinct vertical and horizontal reflections manifest on the scatter plot. These theorems are verified by encrypting the Lena image with four pixel-block sizes. The histogram symmetry passed the goodness-of-fit test at a significance level of 5%, revealing consistent results. The correlation of pixel blocks remained unchanged, and the scatter plot exhibited an x-shaped pattern. Therefore, as the NPT alone does not achieve desirable encryption results, such as uniform histograms, scatter plots, and decreasing correlation, cryptosystems should complement it with additional techniques.

Today, safeguarding sensitive content through encryption is crucial. This work presents a hybrid cryptosystem for images that employs both asymmetric and symmetric encryption. The asymmetric component involves applying the Diffie–Hellman protocol and the ElGamal cryptosystem to securely transmit two constants. These constants are necessary for the symmetrical aspect to generate dynamic permutations, substitution boxes, and round keys. Following an encryption process with fourteen rounds, the encrypted images are processed by an algorithm proposed to enhance entropy, a critical metric for assessing encryption quality. It increases the frequencies of the basic colors to achieve a histogram closely resembling a uniform distribution, but it increases the image size by approximately 8%. This improves the entropy values achieved by the hybrid cryptosystem, bringing them remarkably close to the ideal value of 8.0. In specific instances, the entropy values were elevated from 7.99926 to 8.0. The proposed method exhibits resilience against various attacks, including differential, linear, brute force, and algebraic attacks, as evaluated through the entropy, correlation, goodness of fit, Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR), Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI), Avalanche Criteria (AC), contrast, energy, and homogeneity. Further, encrypted images are subjected to noise attacks ranging from 20% to 50% noise, including additive, multiplicative, occlusion noise, as well as the newly introduced χ2 noise. The noise damage is quantified using the proposed Similarity Parameter (SP), and a 3 × 3 median filter is employed to enhance the visual quality.

La seguridad social tiene su antecedente trascendente en los seguros sociales creados en Alemania por Bismarck a fi nes del siglo XIX. En México, la nor-matividad sobre seguridad social, que está aparejada a las normas laborales, se aplica a trabajadores en general, trabajadores al servicio de la federación, de los estados o de los ayuntamientos. También las fuerzas armadas disfrutan de seguridad social. Estas disposiciones jurídicas contienen regulaciones para personas en proceso de envejecimiento, como son pensiones por cesantía en edad avanzada o por vejez, que incluyen prestaciones en especie y en dinero.La población derechohabiente de algún sistema de seguridad social repre-senta el 40% de la población, lo que signifi ca que el 60% restante se en-cuentra desprotegido. El ritmo de crecimiento de los adultos mayores es más acelerado que el del conjunto de la población. Se espera que a mediados de siglo haya poco más de 36 mill ones de adultos mayores, de los cuales más de la mitad tendrán más de 70 años. La edad media de los mexicanos pasará de 27 años en 2000 a 43 años en 2050. Se han instrumentado diversos programas gubernamentales para apoyar a sectores en situación de desventaja, particularmente a los mayores de 60 años, pero siguen siendo insufi cientes. Por lo anterior, se propone instrumen-tar un programa de seguridad social, que puede ser incorporado al Seguro Popular, con un régimen de fi nanciamiento lo sufi cientemente claro, que permita otorgar no solamente prestaciones en especie, con instalaciones y equipamiento adecuados y personal altamente capacitado, sino también prestaciones en dinero, entregadas de forma oportuna y con trámites senci-llos, en particular a personas mayores de 60 años

Pathogenic bacteria trigger complex molecular interactions in hosts that are characterized mainly by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as an inflammation-associated response. To counteract oxidative damage, cells respond through protective mechanisms to promote resistance and avoid tissue damage and infection; among these cellular mechanisms the activation or inhibition of the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is frequently observed. The transcription factor Nrf2 is considered the master regulator of several hundred cytoprotective and antioxidant genes. Under normal conditions, the Keap1/Nrf2 signaling protects the cellular environment by sensing deleterious oxygen radicals and inducing the expression of genes coding for proteins intended to neutralize the harmful effects of ROS. However, bacteria have developed strategies to harness Nrf2 activity to their own benefit, complicating the host response. This review is aimed to present the most recent information and probable mechanisms employed by a variety of bacteria to modulate the Keap1/Nrf2 activity in order to survive in the infected tissue. Particularly, those utilized by the Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus , Streptococcus pneumoniae , Listeria monocytogenes , and Mycobacterium tuberculosis as well as by the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli , Helicobacter pylori , Legionella pneumophila , Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhimurium. We also discuss and highlight the beneficial impact of the Keap1/Nrf2 antioxidant and anti-inflammatory role in bacterial clearance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the issues addressed by machine learning, with applications in various disciplines or fields such as the health sector and the agricultural sector among others, involves data classification. For this purpose, various models within supervised learning have been proposed and developed that allow for the classification of these data. However, one of the implications of the No-Free-Lunch theorems is that there is no optimal general-purpose model, i.e. there is no classifier model that achieves the best results for all problems presented. Hence the importance of proposing and implementing new classifier models, evaluating their performance, and comparing them with other classifier models in order to achieve models with good results in specific problems. This work presents a new classifier model that, by constructing hyperplanes from the training set, generates a decision tree and partitions the dimensional space. The proposed model was applied to different problems such as the $XOR$ XOR logical function problem, where the proposed model managed to solve the problem, it was also applied to the Iris Dataset where one of the trees generated by the model managed to classify with 100% accuracy the test set, and finally, the proposed model was applied to the Pima Indians Diabetes Database and compared with other models using the accuracy value. The proposed model obtained an accuracy of 81.81%, achieving the best result in the same way as the Random Forest Classifier. The results obtained in this work show that the proposed model manages to partition the dimensional space adequately from the training set and thus competitively classify the data with other state-of-the-art models. Depression is a mental disorder that depicts a wide variety of symptoms, including mood and cognitive alterations, as well as recurrent thoughts of death or suicide. It could become the second leading cause of premature death or disability worldwide. Treatments with conventional antidepressants have several limitations in terms of effectiveness, side effects, and high costs. Therefore, medicinal plants such as Mucuna pruriens are potent candidates for treating depressive disorders. This review shows a compendium of evidence supporting the antidepressant effect of the Mucuna pruriens plant in diverse animal models. This includes the mechanisms of action underlying the antidepressant activity of the treatment concerning dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, cortisol, and inflammation. Clinical trials are needed to study the efficacy and safety of Mucuna pruriens for depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: Redistribution hypothermia occurs during anesthesia despite active intraoperative warming. Prewarming increases the heat absorption by peripheral tissue, reducing the central to peripheral heat gradient. Therefore, the addition of prewarming may offer a greater preservation of intraoperative normothermia as compared to intraoperative warming only. Materials and Methods: A single-center clinical trial of adults scheduled for non-cardiac surgery. Patients were randomized to receive or not a prewarming period (at least 10 min) with convective air devices. Intraoperative temperature management was identical in both groups and performed according to a local protocol. The primary endpoint was the incidence, the magnitude and the duration of hypothermia (according to surgical time) between anesthetic induction and arrival at the recovery room. Secondary outcomes were core temperature on arrival in operating room, surgical site infections, blood losses, transfusions, patient discomfort (i.e., shivering), reintervention and hospital stay. Results: In total, 197 patients were analyzed: 104 in the control group and 93 in the prewarming group. Core temperature during the intra-operative period was similar between groups (p = 0.45). Median prewarming lasted 27 (17–38) min. Regarding hypothermia, we found no differences in incidence (controls: 33.7%, prewarming: 39.8%; p = 0.37), duration (controls: 41.6% (17.8–78.1), prewarming: 45.2% (20.6–71.1); p = 0.83) and magnitude (controls: 0.19 °C · h−1 (0.09–0.54), prewarming: 0.20 °C · h−1 (0.05–0.70); p = 0.91). Preoperative thermal discomfort was more frequent in the prewarming group (15.1% vs. 0%; p < 0.01). The interruption of intraoperative warming was more common in the prewarming group (16.1% vs. 6.7%; p = 0.03), but no differences were seen in other secondary endpoints. Conclusions: A preoperative prewarming period does not reduce the incidence, duration and magnitude of intraoperative hypothermia. These results should be interpreted considering a strict protocol for perioperative temperature management and the low incidence of hypothermia in controls.

Chromosome movements and licensing of synapsis must be tightly regulated during early meiosis to ensure accurate chromosome segregation and avoid aneuploidy, although how these steps are coordinated is not fully understood. Here we show that GRAS-1, the worm homolog of mammalian GRASP/Tamalin and CYTIP, coordinates early meiotic events with cytoskeletal forces outside the nucleus. GRAS-1 localizes close to the nuclear envelope (NE) in early prophase I and interacts with NE and cytoskeleton proteins. Delayed homologous chromosome pairing, synaptonemal complex (SC) assembly, and DNA double-strand break repair progression are partially rescued by the expression of human CYTIP in gras-1 mutants, supporting functional conservation. However, Tamalin, Cytip double knockout mice do not exhibit obvious fertility or meiotic defects, suggesting evolutionary differences between mammals. gras-1 mutants show accelerated chromosome movement during early prophase I, implicating GRAS-1 in regulating chromosome dynamics. GRAS-1-mediated regulation of chromosome movement is DHC-1-dependent, placing it acting within the LINC-controlled pathway, and depends on GRAS-1 phosphorylation at a C-terminal S/T cluster. We propose that GRAS-1 coordinates the early steps of homology search and licensing of SC assembly by regulating the pace of chromosome movement in early prophase I.

Este artigo examina as distorções da criminologia do Norte global na compreensão do conceito de ações sociais. Utiliza os métodos analítico e dialético para explicar os equívocos e as implicações do uso das noções de criminalidade e desvio social, utilizadas pela criminologia do Norte e assimiladas de forma acrítica no Sul. Como alternativa, apresenta a categoria teórica de divergência social. Estes serão os pressupostos para abordar a questão central deste artigo: uma nova cosmovisão das ações que interessam ao direito penal e ao controle penal, em consonância com as necessidades da criminologia do Sul global.
