Orbital currents in light metals or metal oxides without the strong spin–orbit coupling have become an important means to achieve low-power magnetization switching in spin–orbitronic devices. The orbital magnetoresistance (OMR) originated from orbital current represents a useful strategy to explore the interaction between the orbital angular momentum (OAM) and the local magnetic moment. However, systematic research works on the enhancement of OMR and the mechanism of OAM transport are seldom reported. In this study, we report a synergistically enhanced magnetoresistance effect induced by spin and orbital currents in perpendicularly magnetized Pt/Co/Cu–CuOx systems. A maximum room temperature magnetoresistance of 0.38% was observed, exceeding the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) of heavy metal-based heterostructures by one order of magnitude. The enhancement of magnetoresistance is attributed to the contributions from the OMR generated by the orbital Rashba effect at the Cu/CuOx interface and SMR induced by the spin Hall effect in heavy metal Pt. These results provide a pathway to understanding of the OAM transport in magnetic multilayer films and contribute to the design and realization of energy-efficient spin–orbitronic devices.

The overexpression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp/ABCB1) is a leading cause of multidrug resistance (MDR). Hence, it is crucial to discover effective pharmaceuticals that counteract ABCB1-mediated multidrug resistance. FRAX486 is a p21-activated kinase (PAK) inhibitor. The objective of this study was to investigate whether FRAX486 can reverse ABCB1-mediated multidrug resistance, while also exploring its mechanism of action. The CCK8 assay demonstrated that FRAX486 significantly reversed ABCB1-mediated multidrug resistance. Furthermore, western blotting and immunofluorescence experiments revealed that FRAX486 had no impact on expression level and intracellular localization of ABCB1. Notably, FRAX486 was found to enhance intracellular drug accumulation and reduce efflux, resulting in the reversal of multidrug resistance. Docking analysis also indicated a strong affinity between FRAX486 and ABCB1. This study highlights the ability of FRAX486 to reverse ABCB1-mediated multidrug resistance and provides valuable insights for its clinical application.

Abstract Introduction The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status, the research hot spots and frontiers of cognitive impairment (CI) on old adults from 2012 to 2022 based on Web of Science (WoS) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) via CiteSpace, and provide new in-sights for researchers. Methods The articles regarding the old adults’ CI in the WoS and CNKI were retrieved from 2012 to 2022. CiteSpaceV.6.1.R4 was used to generate network maps. Results Four thousand seven hundred thirteen publications and 304 publications from CNKI were retrieved. Overall, from 2012 to 2022, the trend of articles published in WoS and CNKI were increasing. Data from WoS showed that USA, University of California, Petersen RC were the most influential country, institution and author respectively; Folstein MF, Neurology and a diagnosis guideline of mild CI were the most cited author, journal and reference separately; while the keywords of CI could be summarized in 3 aspects: related disease and symptom, risk factors, manifestations. Data from CNKI illustrated that Peking Union Medical College, Dan Liu were the most influential institution and scholar respectively, while the keywords of CI could be summarized in 3 aspects: related disease and symptoms, risk factors, intervention. Conclusion Articles published on old adults’ CI were drawing an increasing amount of attention from 2012 to 2022 both in WoS and CNKI. Keywords of CI in WoS and CNKI both focused on risk factors, related disease and symptom, yet WoS contributed more to the mechanism and CNKI contributed more to the intervention.

Numerical simulation technology is a crucial tool for reducing costs and increasing efficiency in the wind power industry. However, with the development of large-scale wind turbines, the computational cost of numerical simulation has gradually increased. This paper uses the geometric similarity, structural similarity criterion, Reynolds similarity and boundary layer theory to establish a scaled model of the geometric three-dimensional shape, composite material, and finite element mesh of large wind turbine blades. The study analyzes the aerodynamic, gravitational, and centrifugal load variations within the scaled model. The proportional relationship between the scaled model’s operating parameters, the numerical simulation’s environmental parameters, and the mechanical response parameters is established. These parameters are coordinated to ensure the similarity of the blade structure and the fluid dynamics. For a geometric scale factor of 0.316, the relative difference in maximum deflection is 4.52%, with a reduction in calculation time by 48.1%. On the premise of ensuring the calculation accuracy of the aerodynamic and structural response of the blade, the calculation efficiency is effectively improved.

In this work, whiteness, water-holding capacity, gel strength, textural profile analysis were performed to examine the quality of fish balls with abalone (FBA). In addition, a correlation between quality and sensory properties was established. The addition of abalone significantly increased the water holding capacity, gel strength and textural properties of FBA, and decreased their whiteness, the best overall quality was achieved at 9 % w/w abalone addition. The E-nose and E-tongue results revealed that the addition of abalone changed the flavour of FBA. HS-SPME-GC–MS identified 65 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and proved to be effective in reducing fishy flavour. E-nose can distinguish between the VOCs in FBA. Moreover, Umami and 1-octen-3-ol can serve as important indicators to observe changes in the quality of FBA, as they were positively connected with WHC, gumminess, chewiness, resilience, a*, hexanal, etc. The results provided a theoretical basis for the development of abalone and surimi products.

Abstract Background Based on electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis, index of consciousness (IoC) monitoring is a new technique for monitoring anesthesia depth. IoC is divided into IoC1 (depth of sedation) and IoC2 (depth of analgesia). The potential for concurrent monitoring of IoC1 and IoC2 to expedite postoperative convalescence remains to be elucidated. We investigated whether combined monitoring of IoC1 and IoC2 can effectively enhances postoperative recovery compared with bispectral index (BIS) in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic urological surgery under general anesthesia. Methods In this prospective, controlled, double-blinded trail, 120 patients aged 65 years or older were arbitrarily assigned to either the IoC group or the control group (BIS monitoring). All patients underwent blood gas analysis at T1 (before anesthesia induction) and T2 (the end of operation). The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) were administered to all patients at T0 (1 day before surgery) and T4 (7 days after surgery). Serum concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP) and glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP) were assessed at T1, T2, and T3 (24 h after surgery). Postoperative complications and the duration of hospitalization were subjected to comparative evaluation. Results The incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) was notably lower in the IoC group (10%) than in the control group (31.7%) (P = 0.003). Postoperative serum CRP and GFAP concentrations exhibited significant differences at time points T2 (CRP: P = 0.000; GFAP: P = 0.000) and T3 (CRP: P = 0.003; GFAP: P = 0.008). Postoperative blood glucose levels (P = 0.000) and the overall rate of complications (P = 0.037) were significantly lower in Group IoC than in Group control. Conclusion The employment of IoC monitoring for the management of elderly surgical patients can accelerate postoperative convalescence by mitigating intraoperative stress and reducing peripheral and central inflammatory injury. Abstract Background The current study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors for postoperative acute ischemic stroke (PAIS) in advanced-aged patients (≥ 75 years) with previous ischemic stroke undergoing noncardiac surgery. Methods In this single-center retrospective cohort study, all advanced-aged patients underwent noncardiac surgery from 1 January, 2019, to 30 April, 2022. Data were extracted from hospital electronic medical records. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to determine predictors of PAIS. Multivariable linear or logistic regression analysis was performed to determine predictors of outcomes due to PAIS. Results Twenty-four patients (6.0%) of the 400 patients developed PAIS. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA), length of surgery and preoperative Modified Rankin scale (mRS) ≥ 3 were significant predictors of PAIS. CEA was associated with increased risk of PAIS (OR 4.14; 95%CI, 1.43–11.99). Each additional minute in length of surgery had slightly increased the risk of PAIS (OR, 1.01; 95%CI, 1.00-1.01). Abstract High‐resolution X‐ray imaging is increasingly required for medical diagnosis and large‐area detection. However, the issues of scattering and optical crosstalk are limiting the spatial resolution of the indirect X‐ray imaging. In this study, a feasible and efficient strategy is proposed to in situ synthesize flexible Cs3Cu2I5:2%In+@paper as a superior scintillator film, which can be scaled up to an ultra‐large area of 4800 cm2. The as‐obtained Cs3Cu2I5:2%In+@paper performs a fascinating photoluminescence quantum efficiency up to 88.14%, a steady state light yield of 70169 photons/MeV, and spatial resolution of 15 lp mm−1. Moreover, the suppressed physical scattering and optical crosstalk of the corresponding film are demonstrated. Accordingly, this work explores a feasible fabrication of customizable scintillation films with large area for high‐resolution X‐ray detection.

Algal blooms are caused by excessive levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and other plant nutrients in water. Algae and algal organic matter (AOM) pose a great threat to the quality of drinking water. This manuscript offers a systematic review of algal removal by ferrate (Fe(VI)) oxidation, including the conditions for the removal of different algae by Fe(VI) and the factors affecting the removal efficiency. On this basis, the oxidation and coagulation mechanisms of algae removal by Fe(VI) are discussed. Then, the review introduces the process combining Fe(VI) pre-oxidation with aluminum sulfate action. The addition of aluminum sulfate can further enhance the coagulation effect and reduce the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in the subsequent chlorination process by effectively removing AOM, which is recognized as a precursor of DBPs. In addition, recent studies on the combined application of Fe(VI) and Fe(II) are also reviewed. In a reasonable dose range, the synergistic effect of Fe(VI) and Fe(II) can significantly improve the removal of algae and algal toxins. Finally, this review provides a comprehensive evaluation of the applicability of Fe(VI) in removing algal material, offers guidance for the harmless treatment of algae with Fe(VI), and identifies future research questions.

Land use changes in rapidly urbanizing regions around the world constitute a principal anthropogenic element fueling the surge in carbon emissions. Here, land use patterns within the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) urban agglomeration under low-carbon development (LCD) scenarios were simulated. Additionally, social network analysis was employed to formulate carbon balance planning guidelines for various administrative regions. (1) In the ecological protection scenario, carbon emissions from land use were 643.42 × 104 tons lower compared to the natural development scenario. Counties with high ecological support coefficients accounted for 22%, making them better suited for predicting outcomes related to low-carbon-oriented land use. (2) The spatial connections of carbon emissions in BTH were closely related, forming the three main carbon emission spatial linkage areas. (3) A carbon balance zoning plan for the BTH in 2035 under the LCD scenario was formulated. Furthermore, key areas for the implementation of carbon peak and carbon neutrality projects were delineated, and targeted measures for carbon reduction and sink increase were proposed. This study provides a new perspective for implementing territorial spatial planning in Chinese urban agglomerations and can aid the government in formulating a reasonable low-carbon-oriented regional planning policy.

Abstract This study investigated whether the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and functional connectivity (FC) features could be used as potentially neurological markers to identify chronic insomnia (CI) using resting-state functional MRI and machine learning method logistic regression (LR). This study included 49 CI patients and 47 healthy controls (HC). Voxel-wise features, including the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and functional connectivity (FC), were extracted from resting-state functional magnetic resonance brain images. Then, we divided the data into two independent cohorts for training (44 CI patients and 42 HC patients), and independent validation (5 CI patients and 5 HC patients) by using logistic regression. Objective: To assess whether chronic endometritis (CE) affects embryo implantation in patients with repeated implantation failure (RIF). Materials and methods: We retrospectively analyzed 126 RIF patients who were never diagnosed with CE and received no prior antibiotic therapy. Endometrial specimens obtained by endometrial scratching during mid-luteal phase were immunostained by CD138, a hallmark plasmacyte marker, to identify CE. Pregnancy outcome in RIF patients who underwent IVF-ET frozen-embryo within transfers 6 months after endometrial scratching was compared between women with and without CE. Results: The prevalence of CE in patients with RIF was found to be 11.9% (15/126). Moreover, a significantly reduced clinical pregnancy rate was observed in RIF patients with CE (20% vs. 46.85%; p = 0.04). The live birth rate also exhibited a decreasing trend in RIF patients with CE, although there was no statistically significant difference (20% vs. 41.58%; p = 0.109). Conclusions: CE may be involved in the failure of embryo implantation and reduced clinical pregnancy outcome in patients with RIF.

Background and AimsNeedle injection and needle-free injection were proven effective in improving glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. However, it is unclear if needle-free and needle injections of insulin during intensive insulin therapy in hospitalized patients provide similar efficacy and safety benefits.MethodsA self-controlled cross-over study was conducted on 62 patients with T2DM who received intensive long-acting and short-acting insulin injections with or without needles. The 7-point blood glucose test was performed on the 6th day after insulin administration and the injection method switched on the 7th day of hospitalization. The difference was compared in 7-point blood glucose levels.ResultsThe blood glucose levels at fasting (mean difference=-1.09 ± 2.38mmol/L, 95% CI, -1.69 to -0.48, p=0.0007) and post-breakfast (-1.14 ± 3.02mmol/L, 95%CI, -1.91 to -0.37, p=0.004) were better when patients were receiving needle-free injections compared to when receiving a needle injection. Indeed, daily blood glucose fluctuation, which presented as the area under the curve of glycemia, was decreased in needle-free injection periods (-0.3.48 ± 9.64, 95%CI, -5.95 to -1.01, p=0.0065). There was no significant difference in the dose of long-acting insulin between the two injection methods (-0.32 ± 2.69, 95%CI, -0.99 to 0.37, p>0.05). Background: Glypican-1 (GPC1) is overexpressed in several tumors, and GPC1+ exosomes have shown the potential to predict early colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the mechanisms underlying the enrichment and action of GPC1+ exosomes in CRC remain unknown. Methods: The expression of slit guidance ligand 2 (SLIT2), hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α/2α, and GPC1 in clinical CRC tissues was detected using immunohistochemistry and western blot. Exosomes were isolated from the supernatants of CRC cell cultures. The effects of SLIT2, hypoxia, heparin, and phospholipase C (PLC) on exosomal GPC1 expression and GPC1+ exosome enrichment in CRC cells were analyzed with western blot and flow cytometry. CRC cell proliferation was assessed with MTT and colony formation assays. Co-immunoprecipitation was used to detect the binding of GPC1 and SLIT2 in SW480 cells. Nude mice were subcutaneously inoculated with SW480 cells with different treatments. The Wnt signaling was detected. Results: SLIT2 was poorly expressed and GPC1, HIF-1α, and HIF-2α were highly expressed in human CRC tissues. SLIT2 in CRC cells inhibited GPC1+ exosome enrichment and exosomal GPC1 expression. PLC and heparin increased GPC1+ exosome enrichment in CRC cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Hypoxia increased the enrichment of GPC1+ exosomes in CRC cells depending on HIF-2α expression. GPC1+ exosomes stimulated CRC cell proliferation and xenograft tumor growth through activation of Wnt signaling. Conclusions: GPC1+ exosome enrichment is related to PLC and heparin. Hypoxia increases the enrichment of GPC1+ exosomes in CRC cells by activating HIF-2α and downregulating SLIT2. GPC1+ exosomes further drive CRC progression by activating Wnt signaling.

Introduction: The promotion effect of environmental governance on improving the quality of urbanization is yet to be fully understood. No consensus exists on the concept of urbanization quality, and the exploration of the promotion effect of` environmental governance focuses on the economic dimension. Since 2000, high-quality and distinctive urbanization has been an important part of China’s social development, and environmental governance has been a primary aspect of this pursuit. Therefore, Chinese practice is a suitable research object to help enrich the exploration of the academic community.Material and Methods: This paper constructs an evaluation index system for urbanization quality based on a new development philosophy by the Chinese government and adopts the entropy value method to investigate the effect of environmental governance using provincial panel data from 2000 to 2017.Results: Firstly, the overall effect of environmental governance on improving the quality of urbanization is significant, however, among the environmental governance effects of the five dimensions of urbanization quality, it is conducive to innovation and coordinated development but not conducive to shared development. Secondly, the role of the three governance mechanisms in the environmental governance system is not balanced. The contributions of market governance are much higher than that of government governance and public governance, And there is a large room for improvement in the effectiveness of collaborative governance. In terms of the improvement of specific dimensions of urbanization quality, government governance contributes significantly to innovative development but restricts open and shared development; market governance promotes green and shared development but inhibits open development; public governance plays a positive role in coordinated and open development but hinders innovative, green and shared development. Thirdly, the role of environmental governance has significant regional differences. The eastern region is high, the northeast and central regions are second, and the western region is a negative effect. Within the environmental governance system, government governance has a significant promoting effect on all regions, market governance has a significant promoting effect on eastern, western, and northeastern regions. And public governance has the largest promoting effect on eastern and central regions, while it has an inhibiting effect on western and northeastern regions.Discussion: It is necessary to build an environmental governance system adapted to the regional reality, play the leading role of government environmental regulation, and optimize the collaborative mechanism of the government, enterprises and the public in the environmental governance system with the guidance of market governance.

Strontium is a common radionuclide in radioactive waste, and its release into the environment can cause enormous damage to the ecosystem environment. In this study, the natural mineral allophane was selected as the substrate to prepare solidified ceramic products by cold pressing/sintering to solve the problem of the final disposal of radioactive strontium. Ceramic solidified products with various crystal structures were successfully prepared, and the microscopic morphology and energy-dispersive spectroscopy images of the samples showed a uniform distribution of Sr in the solidified products. Sr2Al2SiO7 and SrAl2Si2O8, which can stably solidify strontium, were formed in the solidified products, and the structural characteristics and stability of the above-mentioned substances were analyzed from the perspective of quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory. The calculation results showed that the overall deformation resistance of Sr2Al2SiO7 was higher than that of SrAl2Si2O8. Considering the isomorphic substitution effect of CaO impurities, we inferred that a mixed-crystalline structure of Ca2−xSrxAl2SiO7 may be present in the solidified products.

Overlapping community structures are universal in complex networks. Multi-label propagation approach, as a method for detecting overlapping community, has been received widespread attention for the near linear time complexity. In recent years, some algorithms based on multi-label propagation approach have been proposed, but there is still room to improve the accuracy of these algorithms to detect overlapping communities. In this paper, a double-layer filtering strategy is proposed to help nodes filter labels, and the node centrality of each node according to the number of its neighbors and the number of edges between its neighbors is used to fix the node update sequence. Then based on the double-layer filtering strategy, the new fixed node update sequence and the previous multi-label propagation algorithm, a new algorithm called MLPA-DF is proposed. Theory analysis shows that MLPA-DF still has the near linear time complexity. And experimental results on the synthetic and real-world networks show that MLPA-DF has better performance than previous multi-label propagation algorithms (COPRA, SLPA and LPANNI) in terms of the accuracy of detecting overlapping communities without reducing stability.

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study investigated the effects of oral administration of Clostridium butyricum (C. butyricum) on inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut flora in rats with hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury (HIRI). Methods: The rats from C. butyricum group were given C. butyricum for 5 days. Then, hepatic ischemia for 30 min and reperfusion for 6 h were performed in all the rats. After the animals were sacrificed, alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in serum, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and gut microbiota composition in feces, and malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), nuclear factor-kappa Bp65 (NF-κBp65) and histological analysis in the liver were performed. Results: The rats given C. butyricum showed decreased ALT, AST, LPS, and MDA; improved GSH and histological damage; changes in SCFAs; declined TNF-α, IL-6, TLR4, and pNF-κBp65/NF-κBp65; and changes in the gut microbial composition, which decreased the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and increased the relative abundance (RA) of probiotics. Conclusions: C. butyricum supplementation protected against HIRI by regulating gut microbial composition, which contributed to the decreased LPS and attenuation of inflammation and oxidative stress. These indicate C. butyricum may be a potent clinical preoperative dietary supplement for HIRI.

Background: Lincang City in Yunnan Province on the China-Myanmar border, has reached the World Health Organization recommended coverage (95%) for measles-containing vaccine (MCV), but measles outbreaks still occur. We conducted a survey in Lincang City to determine the measles vaccination status of children on the China–Myanmar border. Methods: We used multistage sampling among children aged 8–83 months. Information on measles vaccination status was obtained from the child’s vaccination certificate, and serum samples were tested using commercially available ELISA kits. Results: A total of 938 children were surveyed. The vaccination coverage rate was 98.9% (95% CI: 98.2–99.6%) for measles–containing vaccine dose 1 (MCV1), and 95.8% (95% CI:94.9–96.7%) for measles–containing vaccine dose 2 (MCV2). The timely vaccination coverage rate was 52.0% (95% CI:48.8–55.2%) for MCV1, and 74.1% (95% CI: 82.9–89.0%) for MCV2. The timely-and–complete vaccination coverage rate was 41.0% (95% CI: 36.7–45.3%). The median delay period was 33 (95% CI: 27–39) days for MCV1, and 196 (95% CI: 146–246) days for MCV2. The seropositivity rate in children aged less than 7 years was 94.0% (95% CI: 92.5–95.5%) with a geometric mean titer of 1210.1 mIU/mL. Conclusions: The MCV coverage was high, but timely and timely-and-complete vaccination coverage were low and insufficient to prevent measles outbreaks. It is necessary to add the timely and timely-and-complete vaccination coverage as indicators of vaccination to provide a more complete picture of measles immunization status.

Abstract We propose a classification method using the radiomics features of CT chest images to identify patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and other pneumonias. The chest CT images of two groups of participants (90 COVID-19 patients who were confirmed as positive by nucleic acid test of RT-PCR and 90 other pneumonias patients) were collected, and the two groups of data were manually drawn to outline the region of interest (ROI) of pneumonias. The radiomics method was used to extract textural features and histogram features of the ROI and obtain a radiomics features vector from each sample. Then, we divided the data into two independent radiomic cohorts for training (70 COVID-19 patients and 70 other pneumonias patients), and validation (20 COVID-19 patients and 20 other pneumonias patients) by using support vector machine (SVM). This model used 20 rounds of tenfold cross-validation for training. Finally, single-shot testing of the final model was performed on the independent validation cohort. ObjectiveThis study is designed to investigate the brain function changed regions in elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and to explore the relationship between neuropsychological tests and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) network to clarify the possible mechanism underlying cognitive changes in KOA patients.Materials and methodsFifty-two patients aged ≥ 65 with KOA and twenty-two healthy-matched controls were recruited in this study. All participants were given rs-fMRI check. We used graph theory analysis to characterize functional connectivity (FC) and topological organization of the brain structural network. The relationship between FC values, topological properties, and the neuropsychological test scores was analyzed.ResultsCompared with the controls, fourteen edges with lower functional connectivity were noted in the KOA group. Local efficiency and small-worldness of KOA patients decreased compared to the healthy controls. No significant alterations of nodal topological properties were found between the two groups. There was a significant positive correlation between the AVLT-H (L) and the internetwork of default mode network (DMN) (left/right orbitofrontal Superior cortex) and limbic/cortical areas (left/right caudate, right amygdala). AVLT-H(L) was positively correlated with small-worldness and local efficiency.ConclusionThe results indicated that for elderly KOA patients with declined cognition, topological properties, FC between DMN and subcortical limbic network related regions are significantly decreased compared to healthy controls. These alterations demonstrated a significant correlation with the neuropsychological test scores.

In order to study the effects and mechanism of Monascus on the quality of hairtail surimi, high-throughput sequencing technology, headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS), and electronic nose techniques were used to investigate the changes in the quality, microbial diversity, and volatile flavor compounds of Monascus-fermented hairtail surimi (MFHS) during fermentation. The results showed that the total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) index of hairtail surimi fermented by Monascus for 0–5 h met the requirements of the national standard. Among them, the 1 h group showed the best gel quality, which detected a total of 138 volatile substances, including 20 alcohols, 7 aldehydes, 12 olefins, 4 phenols, 12 alkanes, 8 ketones, 15 esters, 6 acids, 16 benzenes, 4 ethers, and 8 amines, as well as 26 other compounds. In addition, the dominant fungal microorganisms in the fermentation process of MFHS were identified, and a Spearman correlation analysis showed that 16 fungal microorganisms were significantly correlated with the decrease in fishy odor substances in the fermented fish and that 8 fungal microorganisms were significantly correlated with the increase in aromatic substances after fermentation. In short, Monascus fermentation can eliminate and reduce the fishy odor substances in hairtail fish, increase and improve the aromatic flavor, and improve the quality of hairtail surimi gel. These findings are helpful for revealing the mechanism of the quality formation of fermented surimi and provide guidance for the screening of starter culture in the future.

Background Measles outbreaks often require labor- and resource-intense response. A border-area measles outbreak occurred in Yunnan province that required outbreak response immunization for its containment. We report results of our investigation into the outbreak and the health sector costs of the response activities, with the goal of providing evidence for policy makers when considering the full value of vaccines and of measles elimination. Methods We conducted case investigations to determine sources of infection and routes of transmission. Costs of outbreak response activities incurred by health sector were determined through retrospective interviews and record reviews of staff. Results In total, 67 measles cases were confirmed, including 4 cases imported from Myanmar. Among the 33 cases aged between 8 months and 14 y old, 22 (66∙7%) had received 2 doses of MCV; 2 (6∙0%) had received 1 dose of MCV; 9 (27∙3%) had not received MCV. The first 4 cases had been infected in Myanmar, and we identified 8 transmission clusters with a total of 62 cases. Transmission among Yunnan province residents occurred in schools, family settings, and at gatherings. The overall cost to control the outbreak was $214,774, for a per-case cost of $3,206. The outbreak response vaccination campaign accounted for 64% of the total outbreak costs. Conclusions Despite high population immunity among Yunnan province children and adolescents, an import-related measles outbreak occurred among individuals who were not vaccinated or had vaccine failure in the across-border area. The economic cost of the outbreak was substantial. Investment in a sensitive measles surveillance system to detect outbreaks in a timely manner, maintaining high population immunity to measles, and reinforcing cross-border collaboration with neighboring countries support achieving and sustaining measles elimination in the border areas of China.

In the submerged fermentation process, the introduction of novel nutrient media as sources of carbon and nitrogen can enhance antifungal activity. In this study, we used a submerged fermentation process to find the optimal media for the Bacillus velezensis BP-1 strain to grow in, and that would boost its antifungal activity against Peyronellaea arachidicola. By using a single-factor test and central composite design (CCD) in the response surface methodology, the optimal fermentation medium for the B. velezensis BP-1 strain was identified. The antagonistic potential of B. velezensis BP-1 was assayed against the P. arachidicola fungus to manage web blotch disease in peanut plant leaves. The LB medium was screened as the best medium, with a maximum antifungal activity of 90% in comparison to the other mediums. Semolina flour as the carbon source, peanut root extract as the nitrogen source, and magnesium sulfate as the inorganic salt were selected as the best nutrient components in comparison to the others. The response surface methodology was optimized by using 15 g/L of semolina flour as the carbon source, 13.68 g/L of peanut root extract as the nitrogen source, and 0.50 g/L of magnesium sulfate as the inorganic salt, achieving 90% inhibition of P. arachidicola. The in vitro bioassays showed that the optimized fermentation broth of B. velezensis BP-1 had significant antifungal activity, with an inhibition rate of 88.34% against P. arachidicola. In the pot experiments on disease control, the management effects revealed that the pre-inoculation spray of the B. velezensis BP-1 broth had significant efficiency (96%) when compared to the post-inoculation spray of the B. velezensis BP-1 broth. These findings suggest that the optimized fermentation broth of the B. velezensis BP-1 strain had strong antifungal activity. This could be a potent biocontrol tool for aiding in the early disease management of web blotch in peanut plants.

Abstract In this work, cobalt phosphide nanoparticles (Co2P NPs) were prepared by simple and mild hydrothermal method without the use of harmful phosphorous source. The morphological structure and surface component of Co2P were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements. Considering the excellent electrocatalytic reduction activity and good electrical conductivity of transition-metal phosphide, we fabricated Co2P NPs on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate (Co2P/ITO) for H2O2 detection. The Co2P/ITO transducer displayed a rapid amperometric response less than 5 s, a broader response range from 0.001 to 10.0 mM and a low detection limit of 0.65 μM. In addition, the non-enzymatic Co2P/ITO sensor showed outstanding selectivity, reproducibility, repeatability and stability, all of which qualified the Co2P/ITO electrode for quite a reliable and promising biosensor for H2O2 sensing.

Background A recent measles importation-related outbreak in the China-Myanmar border region required outbreak response immunization to stop the outbreak, raising the question of measles immunity in the area. We conducted two measles serological surveys to develop a seroepidemiological profile of native Chinese citizens and registered Myanmar immigrants to identify strategies to promote measles elimination in the border region. Methods We conducted a clinic-based measles serosurvey of Myanmar registered immigrants (n = 300) and a population-based serosurvey of Chinese Lincang residents (n = 355). Serum samples were tested with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays to assess immunity to measles. Results We found that Myanmar immigrants had a seropositivity rate of 85.3% (95% CI: 81.3–89.4) with a GMT of 924.9 mIU/ml, and Lincang Chinese nationals had a seropositivity rate of 94.6% (95% CI:92.3–97.0) with a GMT of 1363.3 mIU/ml. Myanmar children 2–6 years of age and 7–14 years of age were more likely to be susceptible to measles than same-aged Chinese children: odds ratios 23.00 (95% CI: 5.10–103.69, P < .001) and 7.95 (95% CI: 1.66–38.01,P = .009), respectively. Conclusions We recommend conducting a catch-up vaccination program for Myanmar children ≤15 years old.

Objectives: To evaluate image quality and detection rate of four 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences and MRI performances in pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) when compared to computed tomography (CT). Methods: Forty patients with pulmonary tuberculosis separately underwent CT and 3T-MRI with T1-weighted free-breathing star-volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (Star-VIBE) and standard VIBE, T2-weighted two-dimensional fast BLADE turbo spin-echo (2D-fBLADE TSE) and three-dimensional isotropic turbo spin-echo (3D-SPACE). Four MRI sequences were compared in terms of detection rate and image quality, which consisted of signal to noise ratio (SNR), contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and 5-point scoring scale. The total sensitivity was also compared between CT and MRI. Inter-observer agreement on 5-point scoring scale was calculated by Cohen’s kappa (k). SNR, CNR and 5-point scoring scale were compared using two-tailed pared t-test. Using CT as a reference, the MRI detection rate of pulmonary abnormality was evaluated by Pearson’s Chi-square test. Furthermore, the sizes of the nodules (≥5 mm) were compared using intraclass correlation coefficient. Results: In this study, Free-breathing Star-VIBE had significantly better SNR and identical CNR compared with standard VIBE. 2D-fBLADE TSE had statistically higher SNR but uniform or inferior CNR compared with 3D-SPACE. Inter-observers showed excellent agreement on 5-point scoring scale. The average score of Star-VIBE and VIBE had no difference. The average score of 2D-fBLADE TSE was higher than 3D-SPACE. There were no statistical differences in the detection rates of non-calcified parenchymal lesions between Star-VIBE and standard VIBE, 2D-fBALDE TSE and 3D-SPACE. MRI is comparable to CT in detecting consolidation, cavity, non-calcified nodules of ≥5 mm and tree-in-bud signs compared to CT. MRI detected non-calcified nodules of ＜5 mm, 5–10 mm, ≥10 mm and calcified nodules with sensitivity of 69.6%, 90.6%, 100% and 89.5% respectively. In addition, the sizes of the nodules (≥5 mm) had statistical consistency. MRI is more sensitive in detecting caseous necrosis, liquefaction, active cavity, abnormalities of lymph nodes and pleura. Conclusions: T1-weighted free-breathing Star-VIBE and T2-weighted 2D-fBLADE TSE, both with satisfactory image quality, are suitable for patients with pulmonary TB who need long-term follow-ups in clinical routine, especially for children, young women and pregnant women. This paper examines and discusses the dynamic response of a high-speed train-bridge-soil-pile foundation system to near-fault earthquakes. A 72 + 120 + 72 m continuous girder bridge of a high-speed railroad was selected as the model for calculation. Based on the p-y model for simulating pile-soil interaction, the moment-curvature analysis program XTRACT is used to calculate the moment and curvature of bridge piers and pile foundation sections, and the finite element (FE) software is used to establish two nonlinear global bridge models under seismic effects in the high-intensity zone, one considering pile-soil interaction and one without considering pile-soil interaction. The Ap/Vp parameter, the ratio of peak acceleration to peak velocity of transverse ground shaking, is used to reflect the impulse characteristics of earthquakes and the effect of the Ap/Vp parameter on the dynamic response of bridges to earthquakes was studied. The elastic-plastic response of the bridge system was calculated under lateral and vertical near-fault (NF) impulse/NF nonimpulse/far-field (FF) ground motions (GMs). The study shows that the structural displacement increases, and the internal force decreases after considering the pile-soil interaction. The results show that the bridge piers enter the elastoplastic phase under rare earthquakes. The NF ground shaking couples with the bridge into the elastoplastic phase with a more significant impulse period than the FF ground shaking intensifies the dynamic response of the bridge structure.

SAMHD1 (sterile alpha motif domain and histidine-aspartate domain-containing protein 1) is a deoxynucleoside triphosphate triphosphohydrolase regulating innate immune and modulating DNA damage signaling. It plays an important role in the development of some tumors. SAMHD1 was also reported as a barrier to cytarabine, a common chemotherapy drug for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), and as a biomarker of grim prognosis for acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) patients. However, SAMHD1 expression and function in MCL have not been well-defined. In the present study, we evaluated SAMHD1 expression by immunohistochemistry and its gene structure by Sanger sequencing in MCL. Our results showed that SAMHD1 was positive in 36 (62.1%) patients. Importantly, SAMHD1-positive patients were associated with lower chemotherapy response rate (p = 0.023) and shorter overall survival (p = 0.039) than SAMHD1-negative cases. These results suggest that SAMHD1 is an adverse biomarker for MCL patients, which is due to the high expression of SAMHD1 and rapid cell proliferation. These findings were confirmed in an in vitro study using the siRNA technique. Silencing the SAMHD1 gene in the MCL cell line Jeko-1 significantly decreased cell proliferation and increased cell apoptosis. The MCL cell line with SAMHD1 knockdown showed lower Ki-67 proliferation index, higher caspase-3, and higher sensitivity to cytarabine. Furthermore, for the first time, four previously unreported missense mutations (S302Y, Y432C, E449G, and R451H) in exon 8 and exon 12 of the SAMHD1 gene were discovered by sequencing. The mutations had not been found to corelate with SAMHD1 protein expression detected by immunohistochemistry. The biological functions of this mutated SAMHD1 remain to be investigated.

OBJECTIVES:. Patient- and family-centered end-of-life care can be difficult to achieve in light of visitation restrictions and infection-prevention measures. We evaluated how the 3 Wishes Program evolved to allow continued provision of compassionate end-of-life care for critically ill patients during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. DESIGN:. This is a prospective observational study where data were collected 1 year prior to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and 1 year after (from March 1, 2019, to March 31, 2021). The number of deceased patients whose care involved the 3 Wishes Program, their characteristics, and wishes were compared between prepandemic and pandemic periods. SETTING:. Six adult ICUs of a two-hospital health system in Los Angeles. PATIENTS:. Deceased patients whose care involved the 3 Wishes Program. INTERVENTIONS:. The 3 Wishes Program is a palliative care intervention in which individualized wishes are implemented for dying patients and their families. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS:. During the study period, the end-of-life care for 523 patients involved the 3 Wishes Program; more patients received the 3 Wishes Program as part of their end-of-life care during the pandemic period than during the prepandemic study period (24.8 vs 17.6 patients/mo; p = 0.044). Patients who died during the pandemic compared with prepandemic were less likely to have family at the bedside and more likely to have postmortem wishes fulfilled for their families. Compared with the 736 wishes implemented during the prepandemic period, the 969 wishes completed during the pandemic were more likely to involve keepsakes. Wishes were most commonly implemented by bedside nurses, although the 3 Wishes Program project manager (not involved in the patient’s clinical care) was more likely to assist remotely during the pandemic (24.8% vs 12.1%; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS:. Bedside innovations, programmatic adaptations, and institutional support made it possible for healthcare workers to continue the 3 Wishes Program and provide compassionate end-of-life care in the ICU during this pandemic.

The addition of textured soy protein (TSP) to surimi products extends the supply of fish protein and improves nutritional and sensory properties, which has attracted considerable research interest. In this study, a single-factor experiment and orthogonal experiment were used to determine the optimal process conditions and to assess the quality indicators of fish sausages during frozen storage. The results indicated that the optimal process conditions were as follows: the addition of 15% TSP, 8% potato starch, and 5% lard oil, resulting in a gel strength of 1894.32 g·cm. During storage of the formulation-optimized fish sausages for 180 days, the water-holding capacity, whiteness, texture properties, and gel strength of the fish sausages all decreased, whereas cooking loss, thawing loss, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances value, and total volatile base nitrogen value all increased. Consequently, TSP is beneficial to improve the gel strength and sensory score of fish sausages. The quality of fish sausages with added TSP was acceptable after storage at −18 °C, for 120 days.

A novel Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BAM strain, with novel fermentation nutrient mediums and compositions, could produce potent antifungal secondary metabolites, as the existing strains face resistance from fungus pathogens. In the current study, we introduced two novel nutrient mediums for the fermentation process, semolina and peanut root extract, as carbon and nitrogen sources in order to maximize the antifungal effects of B. amyloliquefaciens against Cercaspora arachidichola to control early leaf spot disease in peanuts. Based on a single-factor test and the central composite design of response surface methodology, the optimum fermentation medium for Bacillus amyloliquefaciens antagonistic substance was determined, containing 15 gm/L of semolina flour, 12.5 gm/L of beef extract, and 0.5 gm/L of magnesium sulfate, which inhibited the fungal growth by 91%. In vitro, antagonistic activity showed that the fermentation broth of B. amyloliquefaciens BAM with the optimized medium formulation had an inhibition rate of (92.62 ± 2.07)% on the growth of C. arachidichola. Disease control effects in pot experiments show that the pre-infection spray of B. amyloliquefaciens BAM broth had significant efficiency of (92.00 ± 3.79)% in comparison to post-infection spray. B. amyloliquefaciens BAM broth significantly promoted peanut plant growth and physiological parameters and reduced the biotic stress of C. archidechola. Studies revealed that B. amyloliquefaciens BAM with a novel fermentation formulation could be an ideal biocontrol and biofertilizer agent and help in early disease management of early leaf spots in peanuts.

Autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) path planning in complex marine environments meets many chanllenges, such as many influencing factors, complex models and the performance of the optimization algorithm to be improved. To find a path with minimum cost of the actual environmental threats, navigation height changes and the minimum energy consumption of the AUV, an improved sparrow search algorithm is designed under the impact of the time-varying characteristics of the current in the complex marine environment on the AUV and the physical constraints of the AUV movement. In the proposed algorithm, an adaptive weight factor balance strategy is introduced into the position update of the discoverer to improve the convergence speed and search ability. In the follower position, the variable spiral search strategy is improved based on the position update formula to enhance the local jumping ability of the algorithm. After the position update, Levy flying strategy is added, and Cauchy–Gaussian mutation is performed on the optimal individual to increase the population diversity, which improves the anti-stagnation ability of the algorithm. Finally, the AUV global path with minimum cost in the sense of multi-objective weighting is obtained. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can plan a path with less cost and quickly converge to an optimized point, and finally it can meet the global path planning requirements of AUV when navigating in complex sea areas.

Perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) is a common condition in elderly patients undergoing surgery. Sedation, analgesia, regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2), and body temperature are known to be associated with PND, but few studies have examined the contribution of these factors combined in detail. This prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blinded study investigated whether anesthesia management based on multimodal brain monitoring—an anesthesia management algorithm designed by our group—could improve the post-operative cognitive function and brain functional connectivity (FC) in elderly patients undergoing elective spinal surgery with general anesthesia. The patients (aged ≥65 years) were randomized into two groups [control (Group C), n = 12 and intervention (Group I), n = 14]. Patients in Group I were managed with multimodal brain monitoring (patient state index, spectral edge frequency, analgesia nociception index, rSO2, and temperature), and those in Group C were managed with routine anesthesia management. All patients were pre- and post-operatively evaluated (7 days after surgery) with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and FC were analyzed after resting-state functional MRI. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and lipopolysaccharide levels were measured, and the correlation between FC and changes in inflammatory marker levels was analyzed. Mean post-operative MoCA score was higher in Group I (24.80 ± 2.09) than in Group C (22.56 ± 2.24) (p = 0.04), with no difference in PND incidence between groups (28.57 vs. 16.67%; p = 0.47). Group I also showed significantly increased ALFF values in several brain regions after surgery (p < 0.05), and FC between the left hippocampus and left orbital inferior frontal gyrus (FG), left middle FG, left superior temporal gyrus, and left precentral gyrus was enhanced (p < 0.05), which was negatively correlated with the change in serum CRP (pre vs. post-intervention) (R = −0.58, p = 0.01). These results suggest that management of elderly patients undergoing surgery by multimodal brain monitoring may improve post-operative neurocognition and FC by reducing systemic inflammation.Clinical Trial Registration:http://www.chictr.org.cn/index.aspx, identifier: ChiCTR1900028024.

Abstract Background We aimed to investigate the effect of short-term orthokeratology lens or frame glasses wear on corneal thickness, corneal endothelial cells and vision correction in adolescents with low to moderate myopia. Methods Data of 100 adolescents with low to moderate myopia were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were assigned into two groups. The experimental group were treated with night-wear orthokeratology lens, and control group were treated with ordinary frame glasses. Follow up was carried out at the 3rd, 6th and 12th months of treatment. The naked-eye vision, diopter, corneal curvature, intraocular pressure, axial length, endothelial cell count and central corneal thickness were examined. Complications within 12 months were observed, and corneal fluorescein staining was graded. Results The naked-eye vision of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group at the 3rd, 6th and 12th months, while the diopter of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group at these time points. The corneal curvature of the experimental group was significantly decreased when comparing with that of the control group at the above 3 time points. The increase of axial length in the experimental group was significantly less than that in the control group at the 6th and 12th months. Conclusions Short-term orthokeratology lens wear can effectively improve the naked-eye vision in adolescents with low to moderate myopia without significant impact on the central corneal thickness and corneal endothelial cells. It is a relatively safe method to correct myopia.

Summary: N-functionalization of amines with CO2 and H2 is one of the most important processes to make use of CO2. Although noble metal-based catalysts with remarkable performance have been widely used in this process, developing efficient non-noble-metal-based catalysts remains a grand challenge. Herein, we report In2O3 nanocrystals with high density of grain boundaries (HGB-In2O3), which show excellent activity toward methylation of amines. Impressively, HGB-In2O3 achieved the optimal yield of 82.7% for N,N-dimethylaniline with a mass activity of 21.2 mmol·g−1h−1 in methylation of N-methylaniline, comparable to noble-metal-based catalysts. As a bonus, HGB-In2O3 held noticeable stability, remarkable selectivity, and comprehensive applicability. Further mechanistic studies revealed that the presence of high density of grain boundaries not only facilitated the adsorption and activation of CO2 to generate CH3OH as the intermediate but also enhanced the activation of N-H bond in amines, contributing to the attractive activity of HGB-In2O3 toward methylation of amines. : Catalysis; Materials Characterization Techniques; Nanomaterials Subject Areas: Catalysis, Materials Characterization Techniques, Nanomaterials

Grape downy mildew (GDM) is a destructive grapevine disease caused by Plasmopara viticola that occurs worldwide. In this study, we determined the characteristics of GDM epidemics and the grapevine canopy micro-climate in open-field, fungicide-spray, and rain-shelter plots during two constitutive years (2016 and 2017). It was found that rain shelter can significantly delay the disease occurrence by 28 and 21 days, reduce the epidemic phase by 28 and 21 days, and decrease the final disease index by 82% and 83%. Furthermore, it can block precipitation, reduce the relative humidity by 11% and 8%, and reduce the leaf wetness duration by 85% and 76% compared with open-field cultivation. A total of 3861, 783, and 1145 lesions were collected from the open-field, fungicide-managed, and rain-shelter plots, respectively, for analyses of the genetic diversity, population differentiation, and epidemic mode with seven microsatellite markers. In terms of genetic diversity, the Nei’s diversity index ranged from 0.569 to 0.680 and Shannon’s information index ranged from 0.958 to 1.226, showing high levels of diversity across populations. Similar to fungicide management, a rain shelter can significantly reduce the population’s genetic diversity. Low pairwise FST values (0.003–0.047) and high gene flow (Nm = 1.548–20.699) were observed among the three populations each year. In addition, most of the genetic variation occurred within populations. The epidemic mode of GDM in the open-field, fungicide-managed, and rain-shelter cultivation showed moderate, low, and high levels of clonality, respectively, in the case study.

Recurrent reproductive failure (RRF), such as recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated implantation failure, is characterized by complex etiologies and particularly associated with diverse maternal factors. It is currently believed that RRF is closely associated with the maternal environment, which is, in turn, affected by complex immune factors. Without the use of automated tools, it is often difficult to assess the interaction and synergistic effects of the various immune factors on the pregnancy outcome. As a result, the application of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) has been explored in the field of assisted reproductive technology (ART). In this study, we reviewed studies on the use of A.I. to develop prediction models for pregnancy outcomes of patients who underwent ART treatment. A limited amount of models based on genetic markers or common indices have been established for prediction of pregnancy outcome of patients with RRF. In this study, we applied A.I. to analyze the medical information of patients with RRF, including immune indicators. The entire clinical samples set (561 samples) was divided into two sets: 90% of the set was used for training and 10% for testing. Different data panels were established to predict pregnancy outcomes at four different gestational nodes, including biochemical pregnancy, clinical pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy, and live birth, respectively. The prediction models of pregnancy outcomes were established using sparse coding, based on six data panels: basic patient characteristics, hormone levels, autoantibodies, peripheral immunology, endometrial immunology, and embryo parameters. The six data panels covered 64 variables. In terms of biochemical pregnancy prediction, the area under curve (AUC) using the endometrial immunology panel was the largest (AUC = 0.766, accuracy: 73.0%). The AUC using the autoantibodies panel was the largest in predicting clinical pregnancy (AUC = 0.688, accuracy: 78.4%), ongoing pregnancy (AUC = 0.802, accuracy: 75.0%), and live birth (AUC = 0.909, accuracy: 89.7%). Combining the data panels did not significantly enhance the effect on prediction of all the four pregnancy outcomes. These results give us a new insight on reproductive immunology and establish the basis for assisting clinicians to plan more precise and personalized diagnosis and treatment for patients with RRF.

Neuroinflammation has been recognized as a major cause for neurocognitive diseases. Although the hippocampus has been considered an important region for cognitive dysfunction, the influence of hippocampal neuroinflammation on brain functional connectivity (FC) has been rarely studied. In this study, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was used to induce systemic inflammation and neuroinflammation in the aged rat brain, while elamipretide (SS-31) was used for treatment. Systemic and hippocampal inflammation were determined using ELISA, while astrocyte responses during hippocampal neuroinflammation were determined by interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β)/tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) double staining immunofluorescence. Oxidative stress was determined by reactive oxidative species (ROS), electron transport chain (ETC) complex, and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Short- (30 days) learning and spatial working memory were tested by the Morris water maze (MWM). Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) was used to analyze the brain FC by placing seed voxels on the left and right hippocampus. Compared with the vehicle group, rats with the LPS exposure showed an impaired MWM performance, higher oxidative stress, higher levels of inflammatory cytokines, and astrocyte activation in the hippocampus. The neuroimaging examination showed decreased FC on the right orbital cortex, right olfactory bulb, and left hippocampus on day 3, 7, and 31, respectively, after treatment. In contrast, rats with SS-31 treatment showed lower levels of inflammatory cytokines, less astrocyte activation in the hippocampus, and improved MWM performance. Neuroimaging examination showed increased FC on the left-parietal association cortex (L-PAC), left sensory cortex, and left motor cortex on day 7 with the right flocculonodular lobe on day 31 as compared with those without SS-31 treatment. Our study demonstrated that inhibiting neuroinflammation in the hippocampus not only reduces inflammatory responses in the hippocampus but also improves the brain FC in regions related to the hippocampus. Furthermore, early anti-inflammatory treatment with SS-31 has a long-lasting effect on reducing the impact of LPS-induced neuroinflammation.

Trade credit is a payment extension granted by a selling firm to its customer. Companies typically respond to late payments from their customers by delaying payments to suppliers, thus generating a ripple through the transaction network. Therefore, trade credit is as a potential vehicle of propagation of losses in case of default events. The goal of this work is to leverage information on the trade credit among connected firms to predict imminent defaults of firms. We use a unique dataset of client firms of a major Italian bank to investigate firm bankruptcy between October 2016 to March 2018. We develop a model to capture network spillover effects originating from the supply chain on the probability of default of each firm via a sequential approach: the output of a first model component on single firm features is used in a subsequent model which captures network spillovers. While the first component is the standard econometrics way to predict such dynamics, the network module represents an innovative way to look into the effect of trade credit on default probability. This module looks at the transaction network of the firm, as inferred from the payments transiting via the bank, in order to identify the trade partners of the firm. By using several features extracted from the network of transactions, this model is able to predict a large fraction of the defaults, thus showing the value hidden in the network information. Finally, we merge firm and network features with a machine learning model to create a 'hybrid' model, which improves the recall for the task by almost 20 percentage points over the baseline.

To evaluate the clinical features and radiomics nomograms of tumors and peritumoral regions for the preoperative prediction of the presence of spread through air spaces (STAS) in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. A total of 107 STAS-positive lung adenocarcinomas were selected and matched to 105 STAS-negative lung adenocarcinomas. Thin-slice CT imaging annotation and region of interest (ROI) segmentation were performed with semi-automatic in-house software. Radiomics features were extracted from all nodules and incremental distances of 5, 10, and 15 mm outside the lesion segmentation. A radiomics nomogram was established with multivariable logistic regression based on clinical and radiomics features. The maximum diameter of the solid component and mediastinal lymphadenectasis were selected as independent predictors of STAS. The radiomics nomogram of lung nodules showed especially good prediction in the training set [area under the curve (AUC), 0.98; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.97–1.00] and test set (AUC, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.97–1.00). The radiomics nomogram of peritumoral regions also showed good prediction, but the fitting degrees of the calibration curves were not good. Our study may provide guidance for surgical methods in patients with lung adenocarcinoma.

Abstract Background Past studies have demonstrated that goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) may be more marginal than previously believed. However, beneficial effects of alpha-1 adrenergic agonists combined with appropriate fluid administration is getting more and more attention. This study aimed to systematically review the effects of goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) combined with the application of alpha-1 adrenergic agonists on postoperative outcomes following noncardiac surgery. Methods This meta-analysis included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on GDFT combined with the application of alpha-1 adrenergic agonists in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. The primary outcomes included the postoperative mortality rate and length of hospital stay (LOS). The secondary outcome indexes were the incidence of postoperative complications and recovery of postoperative gastrointestinal (GI) function. The traditional pairwise meta-analysis was conducted to compare the effect of fluid therapy. The quality of included RCTs was evaluated according to the Cochrane Collaboration’s risk-of-bias tool. Also, the publication bias was detected using funnel plots, Egger’s regression test, and Begg’s adjusted rank correlation test. The meta-analysis was conducted using the RevMan 5.3 and Stata 14.0 software. Results Thirty-two eligible RCTs were included in this meta-analysis. Perioperative GDFT combined with the application of alpha-1 adrenergic agonists was associated with a significant reduction in LOS (P = 0.002; I 2 = 69%), and overall complication rates (P = 0.04; I 2 = 41%).
