High entropy alloys exhibit excellent performance under different-temperature conditions. In order to investigate the effect of temperature on the mechanical-thermal coupling fatigue failure of classical CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy to accelerate the application of high entropy alloys, the uniaxial tensile and fatigue tests at temperatures ranging from RT to 500 °C were conducted, and statics simulation analysis of fatigue specimens under fatigue loading conditions was conducted. The results of the uniaxial tensile tests illustrated that the yield stress and tensile strength of the alloy decreased with increasing temperature. In contrast, the elongation after the fracture of the alloy increased with temperature. The fatigue test results revealed that the fatigue life decreased as the temperature increased. The fracture morphology of the fatigue specimens and the flank morphology and dislocation distribution near the crack nucleation zone were collected to support the investigation. Accordingly, the reasons for the high-temperature-induced decrease in fatigue crack nucleation and propagation lives were systematically investigated. The main reasons for the higher-temperature-induced decrease in crack nucleation lives were a decrease in the yield stress of the alloy, more easily triggered dislocation motion and stress homogenization. The reasons for the decrease in fatigue crack propagation lives induced by higher temperatures were the more prone occurrence of dislocation motion, a decrease in yield stress, and a decrease in the area of the crack propagation region.

The volatility, instability, and water insolubility of Camphora longepaniculata essential oil (CLEO) limit its practical applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. CLEO nanoemulsions (CLNEs) were formulated and characterized to overcome the aforementioned issues. The volatile compounds of CLEO were identified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. CLNEs were prepared using EL-40 (5%, w/w) as the surfactant via the high-pressure homogenization method. The formation of nanoemulsions was verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Homogenized nanoemulsions had smaller particle sizes of 39.99 ± 0.47 nm and exhibited enhanced stability. The nanostructured CLEO showed an antibacterial effect against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial mechanism was explored through bacterial morphology and intracellular lysate leakage. CLNEs disrupted the structure of bacterial cells and impaired the permeability of cell membranes, resulting in the leakage of bacterial intracellular contents. The nanoemulsions exhibited superior radical scavenging ability compared to the pure oil. Furthermore, evaluations of the cellular safety of the CLNEs demonstrated that the survival rate of exposed HOECs was greater than 90%, with an apoptosis rate of less than 10% in a concentration range. The results demonstrated that nanoemulsification improved the stability, solubility in aqueous media, and bioavailability of CLEO, thereby broadening its potential industrial applications as a natural antibacterial and antioxidant agent.

Urban Park Green Space (UPGS) is an essential component of cities, with a wide range of important services. There is a keener demand for green space in the process of urbanization. Previous studies have extensively evaluated the residents’ accessibility to green space, which belonging to the demand of UPGS’s social service function, but rarely combined the ecological service demand to conduct a refined calculation. This may lead to biased results in the evaluation of the satisfaction of green space. Considering the scarcity of urban land resources, it is difficult to support the efficient use of space based on these results. To fill this gap, this study evaluated the accessibility of various service functions that UPGS can provide from a variety of demand perspectives in central Beijing using multi-source geospatial big data. The results show that: (1) The accessibility results may be overestimated when ignoring eco-service demand. (2) Regions with worse or poor accessibility have the largest proportion, and accessibility presents an obvious low–high-low cyclic structure. (3) Urban peripheral areas are always in a significant disadvantaged position in terms of accessibility. Based on the accessibility results, the solution is further provided by using PSO algorithm to simulate the location of new parks to solve the problem of insufficient UPGS supply in the low accessibility area. Our study can provide better insights for city managers to formulate effective green space management strategies and references for optimization strategy.

To investigate the effect of temperature on the compressive strength of CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy with lattice structures prepared by powder bed fusion, the mechanical properties of the lattice structures at a temperature in a range from 20 °C to 900 °C were obtained through a self-developed in-situ mechanical-thermal coupling compressive system. The real-time deformation behaviors of the lattice structures were observed by an optical-infrared dual-spectrum imaging system. The experimental results indicated that the compressive strength, structural stiffness, and energy absorption of the specimens increased with the increasing temperature ranging from 20 °C to 600 °C during the load-bearing stage, accompanied by a fracture mode from cleavage step to dimple. At an elevated temperature of 900 °C, the specimens exhibited the worst compressive strength and structural stiffness but the highest densification strain. Significantly, the temperature-dependent deformation behaviors were revealed, as the gradually increased temperature promoted the deformation failure behavior transforming from “layer by layer” to “45° shear band”. The improved plasticity at elevated temperatures enhanced the deformation capacity of lattice structures, released the local concentrated load and effectively weakened the stress concentration.

The combination of the dark fiber in existing Optical Fiber Composite Overhead Ground Wire (OPGW) with Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing (DOFS) technology can be used to enable online monitoring and provide early warnings of anomalies in high-voltage transmission lines. Accurate mapping of the optical cable length to the geographic coordinates of actual towers is a key factor in achieving this goal. This paper discusses the principle of using a DOFS system for transmission line tower positioning and presents four available positioning features. To overcome the limitations of single physical parameter positioning, this paper presents a self-developed hybrid DOFS that simultaneously captures Rayleigh backscattering and Brillouin scattering signals. Several physical parameters, including temperature, strain, and vibration, are acquired synchronously. Through hybrid multi-parameter analysis, the rapid and accurate positioning of OPGW line towers is achieved. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method, based on the hybrid DOFS system, can locate up to 82 towers, while the traditional method could only identify 12. The hybrid system was able to complete 80% of the tension towers in 40 h. This paper presents a novel multi-parameter localization method that has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of grid operation and maintenance.

Abstract As climate change intensifies, the development of resilient rice that can tolerate abiotic stresses is urgently needed. In nature, many wild plants have evolved a variety of mechanisms to protect themselves from environmental stresses. Wild relatives of rice may have abundant and virtually untapped genetic diversity and are an essential source of germplasm for the improvement of abiotic stress tolerance in cultivated rice. Unfortunately, the barriers of traditional breeding approaches, such as backcrossing and transgenesis, make it challenging and complex to transfer the underlying resilience traits between plants. However, de novo domestication via genome editing is a quick approach to produce rice with high yields from orphans or wild relatives. African wild rice, Oryza longistaminata, which is part of the AA-genome Oryza species has two types of propagation strategies viz. vegetative propagation via rhizome and seed propagation. It also shows tolerance to multiple types of abiotic stress, and therefore O. longistaminata is considered a key candidate of wild rice for heat, drought, and salinity tolerance, and it is also resistant to lodging. Importantly, O. longistaminata is perennial and propagates also via rhizomes both of which are traits that are highly valuable for the sustainable production of rice. Therefore, O. longistaminata may be a good candidate for de novo domestication through genome editing to obtain rice that is more climate resilient than modern elite cultivars of O. sativa.

Research status and development trend of limestone instead of lime for steelmaking and slagging technology are systematically analyzed. Through comparative analysis, it can be seen that the current converter limestone slagging and steelmaking technology simplifies the entire slagging process, improves the slag dephosphorization effect, and reduces steel slag. The production volume has increased the economic benefit per ton of steel. On the whole, the limestone steelmaking slagging process is a high-efficiency, low-consumption, and environmentally-friendly new slagging method, which is of great significance to promoting energy conservation, emission reduction and sustainable development of steel enterprises. However, the decomposition of limestone requires a large amount of heat, which affects the slagging rate. Therefore, in order to further optimize the limestone steelmaking slagging process, a limestone powder spraying slagging technology is proposed, which can effectively solve the heat caused by the direct limestone slagging process. Slagging and CO2 utilization problems caused by high consumption .

Summary: Secondary infection in patients with sepsis triggers a new wave of inflammatory response, which aggravates organ injury and increases mortality. Trained immunity boosts a potent and nonspecific response to the secondary challenge and has been considered beneficial for the host. Here, using a murine model of polymicrobial infection, we find that the primary infection reprograms granulocytes to boost enhanced inflammatory responses to the secondary infection, including the excessive production of inflammatory cytokines, respiratory burst, and augmented phagocytosis capacity. However, these reprogramed granulocytes exhibit “non-classic” characteristics of innate immune memory. Two mechanisms are independently involved in the innate immune memory of granulocytes: a metabolic shift in favor of glycolysis and fatty acid synthesis and chromatin remodeling leading to the transcriptional inactivity of genes encoding inhibitors of TLR4-initiated signaling pathways. Counteracting the deleterious effects of stressed granulocytes on anti-infection immunity might provide a strategy to fight secondary infections during sepsis.

Abstract Background Charcot neuroarthropathy (CNA) of the upper extremity occurs most frequently in shoulders. However, CNA in the hands is uncommon and seldom be reported. The onset of CNA is usually insidious. If this process continues undetected, it can result in joint deformity, ulceration and/or superinfection, loss of function, and amputation or even death. In this article, we are going to present three cases of CNA in the hands of individuals with cervical spinal cord injury (SCI) with central cord syndrome. Case presentation Three male individuals with cervical spinal stenosis contracted tetraplegia (American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale Grade D, D, and B) due to spinal cord contusion after a trauma and developed hand swelling without pain 2 to 3 months after their SCI. X-ray showed degenerative joint changes in the hands. CNA was considered due to the patient’s history of cervical SCI, loss of motor function and sensation, symptoms of painless swelling, physical examination, and X-ray findings. The self-care sub scores of Spinal Cord Independence Measure III improved slightly only during rehabilitation and follow-up due to poor hand function. Conclusions CNA may develop after a central or peripheral neurological disorder. Nearly every joint of the body can be affected and the lower limbs are the most frequently involved. However, CNA of the hand is rare. We present three patients with CNA in the hands after cervical SCI and review the features and early differential diagnosis of CNA. Currently there is no specific treatment available. Therefore, early identification of CNA and adequate protection to the affected joints seem important.

Resource-exhausted cities usually face problems of environmental degradation, landscape fragmentation, and impeded ecological mobility. By clarifying the spatial heterogeneity of ecological restoration needs, efficient and coordinated ecological protection and restoration can be carried out. This study selected Jiawang District, a typical resource-exhausted city, and constructed an ecological security evaluation framework to determine the ecological source area from the three aspects of ecosystem service importance, ecological sensitivity, and landscape stability. The resistance surface was corrected with ecological sensitivity evaluation data, and ecological corridors and ecological nodes were identified using circuit theory. Finally, it explored the spatial and temporal evolution of the key areas of territorial ecological restoration in Jiawang District. This study indicates that: (1) In 2000, 2010, and 2020, the ecological source areas were 123.59 km2, 116.18 km2, and 125.25 km2, and the corresponding numbers of ecological corridors were 53, 51, and 49. The total lengths of the ecological corridors were 129.25 km, 118.57 km, and 112.25 km, mainly distributed in the northern and central areas of the study area. (2) The study area contained 17, 13, and 19 ecological pinch points in 2000, 2010, and 2020, respectively, 16, 20, and 15 ecological obstacle points, and 8, 24, and 33 ecological fracture points, respectively. Targeted rehabilitation of these key areas can significantly improve ecological connectivity. (3) The key area of territorial ecological restoration in 2020 was composed of 125.25 km2 ecological source area, 8.77 km2 of ecological pinch point, 12.70 km2 of ecological obstacle point, and 33 ecological fracture points. According to the present situation of land use, protection strategies are put forward.

The protection and utilization of ecological environment are very important for urban and rural development. At present, a large number of relevant theoretical and practical explorations have been carried out, which confirms the important conclusion that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. The sustainable development of ecological environments is based on coordination with human production and life. In this paper, by constructing an accounting system for the gross ecosystem product (GEP) applicable to Hanwang town, using the market value method, the alternative cost method, the travel cost method, the willingness to pay method and other technical methods, the GEP of Hanwang town is calculated from three aspects: product supply, regulation service and cultural tourism. Finally, the spatial distribution characteristics of value are used to guide the development and layout of ecological industry in Hanwang town. The results showed that the total ecosystem product value of Hanwang town in Xuzhou was relatively high, reaching 1.165 billion CNY, with per capita reaching 30 million CNY, which was 49.16% of the town’s GDP in 2020. The value of cultural tourism is 820 million CNY, the value of regulatory services is 239 million CNY, and the value of product provision is 106 million CNY. The ecological value of Hanwang town varies greatly in spatial distribution. On the whole, the price is low in the southwest, but high in the northeast. The high-value areas are mainly concentrated in three areas: Yudai River Riverside, Xuzhou Paradise in the north, Hanwang Scenic Spot in the middle and the Panaxi Valley tourist spot in the south. Based on the principle of ecological value transformation, combining with the spatial distribution characteristics of ecological value in Hanwang town, four modes of promoting ecological value transformation were proposed: ecological industrialization management, ecological governance and value promotion, ecological resource index trading and ecotourism. This paper preliminarily explores a method to calculate and transform the value of ecological space, which provides feasible concrete strategies for the protection of ecological space and the development of ecological industry in towns.

The reduction of magnetite in H2 and CO atmospheres was compared using a microwave-heating technique. The reduction of magnetite in a mixed H2 + CO atmosphere was compared with respect to the effects of a microwave field and a conventional field. Microstructural changes were observed using an electron microscope. The results show that the metallization rate and reduction degree of the H2-reduced magnetite are much higher than those of the magnetite reduced by CO at 900–1100 ℃. The Fe phase generated by H2 reduction forms a cavity structure, and the Fe phase generated by CO reduction forms a dense block. Under conventional heating conditions, the higher the H2 content in a pure CO atmosphere, the better the reduction effect. Under the effect of a microwave field, the atmosphere with the highest reduction rate was 50% H2 + 50% CO. Compared with conventional heating, the bubble holes formed by reduced iron in microwave field are larger under the same conditions.

The Tb-Dy-Fe alloy with superior magnetostrictive strain and excellent energy density is applied in various fields such as precise driving and intelligent sensing. However, the Laves phase of magnetostrictive alloys has severe brittleness and poor fracture toughness at room temperature, limiting the development of their engineering instruments. In the present study, the transition element doping method is proposed to regulate the elemental composition for the severe brittleness of Tb-Dy-Fe-Cu alloys. The values of Vickers hardness for Nb-doped and Ti-doped specimens were 520.82 HV and 531.90 HV, respectively, with an increase of 4.097% and 6.311% compared to the original specimens. The saturation magnetostriction coefficient is 800p.p.m. for the natural specimens and around 620p.p.m. for the doped specimens. On the one hand, the enhancement of the mechanical properties of doped specimens is mainly attributed to the growth twins and nanoprecipitates induced by doping the transition element. On the other hand, the weakened magnetic properties of the doped specimens ascribed to the accumulations consisting of nanoprecipitates, twins, and elemental aggregates. This doping method could provide an essential reference for developing novel magnetostrictive materials with more desirable and balance physical properties.

Objectives: Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) is one of the most prevalent viruses in humans worldwide. Owing to limited therapeutic options mainly with acyclovir (ACV) and analogues and the emergence of ACV-resistant strains, new drugs with different modes of action and low toxicity are required. The aim of this study was to determine the anti-HSV-1 effect and mechanism of action of the flavonoid compound dihydromyricetin (DHM) from Ampelopsis grossedentata. Methods: The HSV-1 inhibitory effect of DHM was evaluated by measuring plaque formation and generation of progeny virus as well as expression of HSV-1-related genes in Vero cells. The molecular mechanism of the antiviral activity of DHM against HSV-1 was explored by real-time quantitative PCR and ELISA. Results: DHM presented a significant inhibitory effect on HSV-1 plaque formation and generation of progeny virus, with an EC50 (50% effective concentration) of 12.56 μM in Vero cells. Furthermore, expression of HSV-1 immediate-early genes (ICP4 and ICP22), early genes (ICP8 and UL42) and late genes (gB, VP1/2) was decreased by DHM at concentrations of 16 μM and 32 μM. DHM specifically suppressed mRNA levels of Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), leading to inhibition of the inflammatory transcriptional factor NFκB and a decrease in TNFα. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the effective inhibitory activity of DHM was achieved by suppressing TNFα production in a TLR9-dependent manner. Although further studies are needed to better characterise the activity of DHM in vivo, the results suggest this extract as a promising new anti-HSV-1 agent.

The transfer space realizes the connectivity of subway intersections. Passengers generally express that they have a poor experience in the use of this space, so improving the environmental suitability of transfer spaces at subway stations is a top priority. Based on a literature review and field research, this study established an environmental suitability evaluation system for transfer spaces and used the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to evaluate the environmental suitability of eight samples in Shanghai. The results showed that the evaluation results of the eight samples were ranked as follows: Hanzhong Road Station > People’s Square Station > East Nanjing Road Station > Century Avenue Station > Xujiahui Station > Laoximen Station > Jiangsu Road Station > Shanghai Railway Station. Through the analysis of the relationship between the indicators, it was found that the environmental suitability of a transfer space is greatly affected by safety and convenience, while practicality, comfort, and aesthetics were found to have a weak influence on the suitability of transfer spaces. These evaluation methods and results provide a reference for the improvement of the environmental quality of subway transfer spaces in other cities.

Inefficient data transmission has been a development bottleneck of Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (VANETs), especially in urban areas. It has been proved that many complex IP-based solutions are difficult to be applied in the highly dynamic and link-interrupted vehicular environment. In recent years, Named Data Networking (NDN) has become the most popular realization of Information-Centric Networking (ICN) for future networks. Its characteristics of multi-source, multi-path and in-network caching are helpful for improving the data transmission in VANETs. However, the bottom layer of vehicles cannot provide multiple interfaces to different domains like the routers in wired networks. Thus interface-based forwarding degenerates into directionless broadcasting with low performance and high overhead. Against this problem, we propose COMPASS, a novel named data transmission protocol for VANETs. Firstly, a dynamic directional interface model is built as the cornerstone of our COMPASS. Secondly, the forwarding strategies are improved for rapid interest dissemination and named data retrieving. Besides, an interface remapping method and the update strategies of Forwarding Information Base (FIB) and Pending Interest Table (PIT) are designed to enhance the robustness in high-mobility environment. Finally, the performance of COMPASS is verified on ndnSIM. Compared with the other three state-of-the-art protocols, COMPASS obtains the highest interest satisfaction ratio and the shortest transmission delay in urban traffic scenarios with restricted communication and storage overhead.

Abstract Neddylation is a post-translational protein modification associated with cancer development. MLN4924 is a neddylation inhibitor currently under investigation in multiple phase I studies on various malignancies, and its clincal name is Pevonedistat. It has been documented that MLN4924 blocks Cullins neddylation and inactivates CRLs and, in turn, triggers cell-cycle arrest, apoptosis, senescence and autophagy in many cancer cells. In this study, we investigated the anti-tumor effect of MLN4924 in human clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC). Levels of both Nedd8 activating enzyme E1 and Nedd8-conjugating enzyme E2 were higher in ccRCC tissues and RCC cancer cells than in normal. Moreover, MLN4924 treatment led to rapid inhibition of Cullin1 neddylation and notably suppressed growth and survival as well as migration in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Mechanistic studies revealed that MLN4924 induced the accumulation of a number of CRL substrates, including p21, p27 and Wee1 to trigger DNA damage and induce growth arrest at the G2/M phase. MLN4924 also induced anti-migration and anti-invasion by activating E-cadherin and repressing Vimentin. Taken together, this study provides the first evidence that neddylation pathway is overactive in ccRCC and that MLN4924 induces dose-dependent anti-proliferation, anti-migration, anti-invasion in ccRCC cells. The study thus indicates that MLN4924 has potential therapeutic value for the clinical treatment of renal cancer.

As an important measure for maintaining the ecological environment, green infrastructure also plays a significant role in industrial development and economic growth. The current traditional green infrastructure construction method is based on a combination of vertical and horizontal ecological processes, but it does not take into account the complexity of the ecosystem or the motivating effect of green infrastructure on industry. This study investigated how green infrastructure can play the leading role in industry while considering the complexity of the ecosystem. Hanwang Town is the most representative village and town in China with the leading agricultural tour-industry, and it is located in the northern part of Jiangsu Province. However, the ecological security patterns of villages and towns have been severely damaged in recent years, and the green infrastructure has not played a role in industry. Therefore, taking Hanwang Town as the research area, the data of the third national survey were combined with relevant statistical data. Then, from the perspective of the agriculture and tourism industries, ecosystem services were used as a bridge to improve the recent green infrastructure construction methods, and finally better strategies are proposed according to the optimization results. The research results revealed three important aspects of this system. (1) The optimization method can comprehensively consider the impact of environmental factors, objectively reflect the value of ecological services in the form of currency, reflect the importance of environmental protection with intuitive values，and enhance people's awareness of ecological protection. (2) The selection of ecological factors takes into account the local characteristic industries of Hanwang villages and towns, and adding the appropriate industry-related ecological factors makes the identification of ecological sources based on ecosystem services more scientific, and can also bring benefits to the local residents. (3) The newly constructed green infrastructure fully takes into account the landscape, ecology, tourism and other roles played by tourist attractions on the ecological corridor. There are six tourist attractions in the selected ecological nodes, forming an ecological network space with an agglomeration economic function, and this allows the ecological service function to better integrated. The findings of this research can effectively solve the shortcomings of the traditional green infrastructure construction methods, and reveal optimization strategies for the problems existing in the current green infrastructure construction in Hanwang Town. At the same time, they can also provide a reference for the green infrastructure construction of agricultural and eco-tourism villages and towns in other regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
