Introduction: To identify factors affecting potency and to predict ideal patient subgroups who will have the highest chance of being potent after robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) based on nerve sparing (NS). Materials and Methods: Analysis of 7268 patients who underwent RALP between 2008 and 2018 with a minimum of 12 months of follow-up was performed. The patients were then categorized into four separate neurovascular bundle-sparing groups (NVB 1-4). A Cox regression analysis was used to determine the independent factors predicting potency outcomes. Cumulative incidence functions were used to depict the probability and time to potency between the NS groups stratified by age and preoperative sexual health inventory in men (SHIM). Results: Cox regression analysis of age, preoperative SHIM score, and grades of NS significantly predicted potency outcomes post-RALP. Patients with SHIM score ≥22 had a better chance of potency vs patients with SHIM NVB 3. Conclusions: Preoperative SHIM, age, and NS are the most influential factors for potency recovery following RALP. Patients with good baseline sexual function had similar postoperative potency, irrespective of their grades of partial NS. In patients with decreased baseline SHIM and older age, a higher grade of partial NS resulted in a significantly better potency compared with a lower grade of partial nerve spare.

BACKGROUND School-based health centers (SBHCs) can integrate health and educational services to achieve common goals of student wellness and success. As no method exists to quantify the degree of integration for clinics and partner schools, this study aimed to design such a measure. METHODS Measure items were drafted from the literature. Eleven school health experts from Los Angeles, CA, used a modified Delphi method to reach consensus around items for inclusion in a School Health Integration Measure (SHIM), evaluating each on its appropriateness, substantivity, and feasibility. Twenty-eight staff at 17 SBHC campuses pilot tested the SHIM to examine its psychometric properties. RESULTS From 36 items, the expert panel utilized 4 rounds to reach consensus on 12 items across 5 domains: health authority, integrated programming, marketing and recruitment, shared outcomes, and staff collaboration. In the SHIM pilot, scores ranged from 2.25 to 5 (possible 1-5, mean 3.53). The measure had high internal consistency (alpha = 0.9385) and was associated with participants' general assessment of integration at their sites (p = .001). CONCLUSIONS The SHIM provides a new tool to quantify health and educational service integration at SBHC sites, drive practice improvement, and test whether integration leads to better student outcomes.

BACKGROUND There has been recent interest in the use of botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) in the field of Andrology, whereby it has been investigated in the treatment of penile retraction and premature ejaculation. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the safety and efficacy of intracavernosal BoNT-A injection in the treatment of patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) refractory to oral phosphodiesterase inhibitors (PDE5Is). PATIENTS AND METHODS A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled prospective comparative study conducted at one center and involved 70 patients with ED refractory to PDE5Is. At baseline, the following data were collected: erection hardness score (EHS), peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), sexual health inventory for men (SHIM), and the sexual encounter profile 2&3 (SEP-2&3) questionnaires. Treatment group (n = 35) received a single ICI of 100 units of BoNT-A in 2 ml of saline and control group (n = 35) received a single ICI of 2 ml of saline. To examine the efficacy of perineal urethrostomy (PU) in patients with anterior urethral stricture. Patients who underwent PU for anterior urethral stricture between 2013 and 2020 were retrospectively reviewed (n = 56). Surgical success was defined as no need for additional intervention. Uroflowmetry and measurement of residual urine volume (PVR) were examined postoperatively, and the patients were asked to fill out sexual health inventory for men (SHIM) and the validated Urethral Stricture Surgery Patient-reported Outcome Measure questionnaires before and after PU. The overall patient satisfaction was also assessed. PU was successful in 92.9% of patients (n = 52), with a median follow-up of 34 months. Two of four were salvaged by re-do PU, and one was salvaged by forming a composite stoma using a penile skin graft. Thirty-nine patients (69.6%) filled out the questionnaires 6 months after surgery. Background We recently described a novel form of focal therapy for prostate cancer (CaP)-the precision prostatectomy. Here we report on the first 25 consecutive patients. Further, utilizing Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER)-registry data, we assess long-term oncological efficacies of various focal therapy techniques. Methods Men who met the criteria: (I) PSA ≤15 ng/mL, (II) stage ≤cT2, (III) dominant unilateral lesion with Gleason ≤4+3 with any number or percentage (%) of cores involved ipsilaterally on biopsy, (IV) no primary Gleason ≥4 contralaterally, and (V) preoperative erectile function score (IIEF-5/SHIM) of ≥17 with/without PDE-5i were included in this prospective, single-arm, IDEAL stage 2b study (December 2016 to July 2017). Safety of the technique, and intermediate-term urinary, sexual and oncological outcomes were studied. Descriptive statistics and Kaplan-Meier (KM) analysis were used to assess 12-month urinary continence (0-1 pad), 12-month sexual potency (SHIM ≥17), and 36-month freedom from clinically-significant CaP (grade group ≥2), radical treatment, metastatic disease and mortality. SEER-registry was queried to evaluate CaP-specific survival in patients undergoing hyperthermia, cryotherapy, or segmental prostatectomy. Results At study entry, the median (IQR) age, PSA and SHIM score were 56.5 (53.1-62.3) years, 4.2 (3.8-5.9) ng/mL and 23 [20-25], respectively. Only 1 patient met the Epstein criteria for active surveillance. All patients were followed for a minimum of 2 years. At 12 months, from a functional standpoint, all patients were continent. Twenty-three (92%) patients were potent at 12 months. From an oncological standpoint, at 36 months, the KM analysis (95% CI) demonstrated a 96.2% (92.9-98.7) rate of freedom from clinically-significant CaP and a 92.7% (88.9-97.2) rate of freedom from radical treatment. All patients were alive and free of metastatic disease at the latest follow-up. Analysis of the SEER-registry data demonstrated 10-year CaP-specific survival rates of 91.6% to 97.7% among the 3 studied modalities, P=0.298. Conclusions Precision prostatectomy is feasible, technically safe, and offers excellent postoperative functional results. At 36 months of follow-up, the oncological outcomes and secondary procedure rates appear to be at-par with the ablative forms of focal therapy.

Background: Active surveillance (AS) for low-risk prostate cancer (PCa) is intended to overcome potential side-effects of definitive treatment. Frequent prostate biopsies during AS may, however, impact erectile (EF) and urinary function (UF). The objective of this study was to test the influence of prostate biopsies on patient-reported EF and UF using multicenter data from the largest to-date AS-database. Methods: In this retrospective study, data analyses were performed using the Movember GAP3 database (v3.2), containing data from 21,169 AS participants from 27 AS-cohorts worldwide. Participants were included in the study if they had at least one follow-up prostate biopsy and completed at least one patient reported outcome measure (PROM) related to EF [Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM)/five item International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5)] or UF [International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS)] during follow-up. The longitudinal effect of the number of biopsies on either SHIM/IIEF-5 or IPSS were analyzed using linear mixed models to adjust for clustering at patient-level. Analyses were stratified by center; covariates included age and Gleason Grade group at diagnosis, and time on AS. Results: A total of 696 participants completed the SHIM/IIEF-5 3,175 times, with a median follow-up of 36 months [interquartile range (IQR) 20-55 months]. A total of 845 participants completed the IPSS 4,061 times, with a median follow-up of 35 months (IQR 19-56 months). The intraclass correlation (ICC) was 0.74 for the SHIM/IIEF-5 and 0.68 for the IPSS, indicating substantial differences between participants' PROMs. Limited heterogeneity between cohorts in the estimated effect of the number of biopsies on either PROM were observed. A significant association was observed between the number of biopsies and the SHIM/IIEF-5 score, but not for the IPSS score. Every biopsy was associated with a decrease in the SHIM/IIEF-5 score of an average 0.67 (95% CI, 0.47-0.88) points. Conclusions: Repeated prostate biopsy as part of an AS protocol for men with low-risk PCa does not have a significant association with self-reported UF but does impact self-reported sexual function. Further research is, however, needed to understand whether the effect on sexual function implies a negative clinical impact on their quality of life and is meaningful from a patient's perspective. In the meantime, clinicians and patients should anticipate a potential decline in erectile function and hence consider incorporating the risk of this harm into their discussion about opting for AS and also when deciding on the stringency of follow-up biopsy schedules with long-term AS.

Peyronie's disease results in curvature of the penis which may cause difficulty with penetrative intercourse. The diagnosis of Peyronie's disease is easily obtained through history and physical examination alone, but the severity of erectile dysfunction relies on patient history and use of validated questionnaires. However, erectile dysfunction questionnaires were not validated in the Peyronie's disease population and may not be a reliable assessment. Penile Doppler ultrasound is a noninvasive tool that assesses vascular function. We hypothesized that penile Doppler ultrasound will be discordant with International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) results in men with Peyronie's disease and erectile dysfunction. In this cross-sectional study, we reviewed a prospectively collected database of men with Peyronie's disease. In total, 108 men had questionnaire and ultrasound data. Of them, 87 had erectile dysfunction based on IIEF-EF or IIEF-5 (SHIM). However, 48 (55%) of those men had normal vascular parameters. Interestingly, among a subgroup of 33 men with severe erectile dysfunction on IIEF-EF or IIEF-5, 20 (61%) had normal vascular parameters. Our study demonstrates significant discordance between questionnaires and penile Doppler ultrasound. Therefore, ultrasound may be a useful tool in the workup of men with Peyronie's disease and erectile dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate erectile and sexual function after pelvic fracture urethral injury (PFUI) by performing a retrospective review of a large multi-center database. We hypothesized that most men will have erectile dysfunction (ED) and poor sexual function following PFUI, which will remain after posterior urethroplasty. METHODS: Using the Trauma and Urologic Reconstructive Networks of Surgeons (TURNS) database, we identified PFUI patients undergoing posterior urethroplasty. We excluded patients with incomplete demographic, surgical and/or questionnaire data. Sexual Health Inventory of Men (SHIM), Male Sexual Health Questionnaire (MSHQ), and subjective changes in penile curvature were collected before urethroplasty surgery and at follow-up. We performed descriptive statistics for erectile and ejaculatory function using STATA v12. RESULTS: We identified 92 men meeting inclusion criteria; median age was 41.7 years and BMI was 26.5. The mechanism of injury was blunt in all patients, and average distraction defect length was 2.3 cm (SD 1.0 cm). Background Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a socioeconomic problem.There are several options for its management including intra-cavernosal injection (ICI). Objective To compare the safety, efficacy, and durability of ICI of onabotulinum toxin-A (BTX) in different doses (50 and 100 U) against placebo (saline) in the management of vasculogenic ED non-responding to pharmacological therapy (phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors or/and ICI of trimix). Materials and methods A prospective randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial was conducted between July 2016 and February 2019. A total of 176 patients were randomly assigned (1:1:1) to one of the treatment sequences: Botox 100 U group (BTX-100; 62 patients), Botox 50 U group (BTX-50; 59 patients), or placebo group (55 patients). All patients were followed up for 6 months. Results Significant improvement in all parameters, that is, SHIM score & Erection Hardness Score (EHS), Sexual Encounter Profile (SEP), Global Assessment Score (GAS), and Doppler parameters (p 0.05). Introduction Conflicting evidence exists on the relationship between bicycle riding and erectile dysfunction (ED). A major limitation to several prior studies is the lack of a validated measure of ED. Objective To assess the relationship between cycling and clinically validated ED based on existing literature. Methods We searched several major databases from database inception through 2018 using a variety of search terms relating to “cycling” and “erectile dysfunction.” Studies were included if they were written in English, reported original data, compared ED between cyclists and non-cycling controls, and used a validated measure of ED, such as the International Index of Erectile Function or the subset Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM). Age, SHIM score, and comorbidities were extracted for all groups. Primary outcomes for each group were mean SHIM score and presence of ED (SHIM ≤ 21). A generalized linear mixed-effects model was used to fit the collected data for meta-analysis. Main outcome measures were unadjusted odds ratios of ED for cyclists and non-cyclists, mean SHIM score difference between cyclists and noncyclists, and both of these measures adjusted for age and comorbidities. Results After a systematic evaluation of 843 studies, 6 studies met our inclusion criteria, encompassing 3,330 cyclists and 1,524 non-cycling controls. When comparing cyclists to non-cyclists in an unadjusted analysis, there were no significant differences in the odds of having ED or mean SHIM score. However, when controlling for age and comorbidities, cyclists had significantly higher odds of having ED (odds ratio: 2.00; 95% confidence interval: 1.57, 2.55). Conclusions Limited evidence supports a positive correlation between cycling and ED when adjusting for age and several comorbidities. Purpose We aimed to assess if there is a significant change in voice of pregnant women by the end of third trimester. Materials and methods Forty-nine pregnant women were enrolled in this study between April 2019 and March 2020. Subjective and objective voice evaluation was conducted in the third trimester and three months after delivery. The Turkish version of the VHI-10 questionnaire was filled out by every participant. GRBAS scale was used for perceptual voice evaluation. Acoustic analyses were conducted by Multi-Dimensional Voice Program (MDVP) (Computerized Speech Lab, Kay Elemetrics Corporation, Lincoln Park, NJ). Fundamental frequency (fo), Jitter percent (Jitt), Shimmer percent (Shim), noise to harmonic ratio (NHR), maximum phonation time (MPT), voice turbulence index (VTI), vocal intensity, and scale parameters were categorized as predelivery (a) and postdelivery (b). Results Comparison of acoustic parameters of the third trimester with the third month postpartum revealed statistically significant increases for fo (p = .013), MPT (p = .008), and vocal intensity (p≤.001) as well as a significant decrease for VTI (p≤ .001). No statistically significant difference was found for NHR, Jitt, and Shim. Comparison of both VHI-10 and GRBAS scores revealed statistically significant decreases. Conclusions Disturbances in certain vocal parameters suggest that vocal abnormalities observed during pregnancy are mainly due to anatomical alterations of the lower respiratory system. It would be appropriate to warn pregnant women about bad vocal habits and vocal hygiene. In addition, it would be appropriate to recommend professional voice support to pregnant women who use their voices intensively due to their profession.

Sensors can produce large amounts of data related to products, design, and materials; however, it is important to use the right data for the right purposes. Therefore, detailed analysis of data accumulated from different sensors in production and assembly manufacturing lines is necessary to minimize faulty products and understand the production process. Additionally, when selecting analytical methods, manufacturing companies must select the most suitable techniques. This paper presents a data analytics approach to extract useful information, such as important measurements for the dimensions of a shim, a small part for aligning shafts, from the manufacturing data of a power transfer unit (PTU). This paper also identifies the best techniques and analytical approaches within the following six individual areas: (1) identifying measurements associated with faults; (2) identifying measurements associated with shim dimensions; (3) identifying associations between station codes; (4) predicting shim dimensions; (5) identifying duplicate samples in faulty data; and (6) identifying error distributions associated with measurement. These areas are analysed in accordance with two analytical approaches: (a) statistical analysis and (b) machine learning (ML)-based analysis. The results show (a) the relative importance of measurements with regard to the faulty unit and shim dimensions, (b) the error distribution of measurements, and (c) the reproduction rate of faulty units. Additionally, both statistical analysis and ML-based analysis have shown that the measurement ‘PTU housing measurement’ is the most important measurement among available shim dimensions. Additionally, certain faulty stations correlated with one another. ML is shown to be the most suitable technique in three areas (e.g. identifying measurements associated with faults), while statistical analysis is sufficient for the other three areas (e.g. identifying measurements associated with shim dimensions) because they do not require a complex analytical model. This study provides a clearer understanding of assembly line production and identifies highly correlated and significant measurements of a faulty unit.

Erectile dysfunction is currently a growing health concern and one of the most prevalent sexual dysfunctions in men worldwide. Diabetes mellitus is considered a risk factor for developing ED. Therefore, this SHIM study was designed to assess the prevalence, severity and determinant of erectile dysfunction in type II diabetes mellitus patients and healthy men. This hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 132 diabetic male patients and 66 healthy men at the Nkenkaasu hospital, Offinso North, Ghana between January-June, 2019. A pre-structured questionnaire and patients’ medical records were used to document relevant information. Erectile function was assessed using Sexual health inventory for men questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. Chi-square test, binary and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used appropriately. The mean age of study participants was 57.94 ± 9.79 years. The overall mean score on the SHIM test was 12.42 ± 8.15 (range: 1–25), mean of 9.59±7.83 for the type II diabetics and 18.08±5.39 for non-diabetic men. The total erectile dysfunction (ED) prevalence was 81.8% (95% CI: 0.757, 0.869). ED was common in diabetics (70.4%) compared with healthy men (29.6%). Severe ED was 93.7% and 6.3% in the diabetic and non-diabetic men respectively. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that diabetic men with poor health-related quality of life had 3.48 times likelihood of having ED compared to their non-diabetic counterparts (AOR= 3.48, 95% CI; 1.284, 9.453). Very high erectile dysfunction was observed in our study participants. This is worrisome owing to the profound negative impact of ED on the quality of life and fertility of men. It is recommended that periodic assessment of erectile function should form part of routine diabetes care, focusing attention on the modifiable risk factors in preventing, delaying progression, or reversing established ED in persons. This article presents 2 cases of extremely intractable patulous Eustachian tube following multiple transnasal shim insertion. These cases highlight the disadvantages of repeat transnasal shim operations, including enlargement of the Eustachian tube lumen, frequent dislocation, repeat surgery, recurrent middle ear infection, and shim misswallowing. The patients in these cases were successfully treated with Eustachian tube cartilage chip insertion through a postauricular approach. We describe the surgical technique and advantages of this promising management method.

Introduction Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) is a validated questionnaire that is widely used in urology clinics to evaluate and assess treatment efficacy for erectile dysfunction (ED). Aim In this study, we evaluated the benefit of using the SHIM questionnaire as a screening tool for ED in a general urology clinic Material and Methods We retrospectively reviewed records of patients presenting to our general urology clinic from October 2018 to June 2019. During this period, all new male urology patients who are 40 years of age or older visiting the general urology clinic for any urologic condition received the SHIM questionnaire. We excluded all patients whose chief complaint was ED, Peyronie’s disease, and hypogonadism. Patients were then asked if they want treatment for ED, and those patients who did, received a full ED evaluation and treatment. Factors associated with desire for ED treatment were analyzed using logistic regression. Main Outcome Measures SHIM score, desire for ED treatment, and factors influencing desire for treatment. Results Three hundred seventy-nine patients received the SHIM questionnaire. Of which, 48 patients (12.7%) declined to fill the questionnaire. We excluded all patients presenting for sexual health issues (67 patients, 17.7%). We included the remaining 264 patients (69.6%). The mean age was 61.7 years (range 40 to 85). Older patients were more likely to want ED treatment and had lower SHIM scores. However, older than the age of 70 years, there was a decline in the number of patients wanting treatment. In a multivariate regression analysis, age between 61 and 70 years and having diabetes mellitus were associated with the desire for ED treatment. Conclusions The SHIM questionnaire is a useful tool in the general urology clinic. It can serve as an efficient tool to screen for and quantify ED in patients presenting for other urologic issues. Objective To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of surgical outcomes following repair of patulous Eustachian tube (PET). Data sources Analysis of cases collected from studies published between January 1990 and December 2018 and identified using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane databases. Study selection Articles addressing interventions to treat PET were selected. Data extraction The database was searched using the keywords "patulous Eustachian tube treatment" and yielded 1,370 studies. Twenty studies were eligible for inclusion. Data synthesis A total of 914 cases were evaluated for surgical approach, patient outcomes, and complications. The reported techniques were categorized by the procedure type, including ventilation tube insertion, mass loading of the tympanic membrane, ET injection, plug surgery, shim surgery, tuboplasty, and ET closure. Overall PET symptom improvement were reported for ventilation tube insertion (79 cases, mean: 58%, 95% CI: 47-69%), mass loading of the tympanic membrane (43 cases, mean: 50%, 95% CI: 32-69%), ET injection (139 cases, mean: 47%, 95% CI: 38-56%), plug surgery (386 cases, mean: 81%, 95% CI: 77-85%), shim surgery (122 cases, mean: 62%, 95% CI: 53-70%), tuboplasty (105 cases, mean: 41%, 95% CI: 31-51%), and ET closure (40 cases, mean: 66%, 95% CI: 49-80%). A low incidence of minor complications was reported. Conclusions This systematic review describes clinical outcome data following surgical management of PET. Plug surgery and shim surgery show relatively high effectiveness and safety. Further prospective studies that compare surgical approaches for PET are needed.

Penile adhesions may cause pain, bleeding, disfigurement and distress. In the setting of lichen sclerosus (LS), they often recur but current treatment options are limited. We present a novel surgical technique for treatment of recurrent penile adhesions using sub-coronal buccal mucosal graft (BMG) resurfacing. A retrospective, international multi-institutional study was conducted to include patients with refractory penile adhesions who were treated with this technique. Patients with > 12-month follow-up were included in analysis. The procedure involved circumferential excision of the diseased skin and replacement with a BMG. The primary outcomes were recurrence and surgical complications. Secondary outcomes were patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) including Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaire and Global Response Assessment (GRA) questionnaire measuring functional and esthetic outcomes. Twenty-five men underwent the procedure across six institutions between 3/2014 and 11/2019. Twenty-one men met inclusion criteria. Mean operative time and hospital stay for sub-coronal resurfacing were 40 min (25–50) and 0.76 days (1–2), respectively. At the mean follow-up of 18 months (12–61), no patients developed recurrence. All patients who presented with pain and postcoital bleeding saw improvement on follow-up (18/18). There was a significant improvement in SHIM scores after the operation (14.4 pre-op, 17.0 post-op; p = 0.003). Overall improvement of symptoms was reported by all patients: 57% GRA + 3; 29% GRA + 2; 14% GRA + 1. Baseline penile sensation was preserved in 17/21 (81%) patients. Recurrent penile adhesions in the setting of LS are notoriously difficult to treat. A sub-coronal BMG resurfacing is feasible. This initial patient cohort demonstrated no recurrence and overall high satisfaction.

Introduction: Penile fracture is a rare urological emergency, best managed by early surgical intervention, but the data on subsequent sexual function is sparse. This study was designed to analyze the clinical spectrum and sexual function after penile fracture repair at our tertiary care center. Materials and Methods: Ambispective observational study was undertaken from July 2002 to August 2019 which included patients admitted with a history of trauma to the penis in the erect state. The clinical presentation, etiology and the details of the surgical management were noted. Patients were contacted telephonically and were called for follow-up. They were evaluated for the presence of penile nodules or curvature, and the erectile function was objectively recorded using the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaire and the Erection Hardness Score (EHS). Results: Median age at injury was 37 years, and injury during the sexual intercourse (33/43) was the most common etiology. Five patients presented with blood at the meatus. Ultrasound was performed in 27 patients and could detect the injury with a 55% sensitivity. All but one case were repaired through a subcoronal degloving incision. At a median follow-up of 36 months, follow-up data of 20 patients were available. Of the 20 patients, 14 were sexually active. The mean SHIM score was 21.36 ± 1.33 and the mean EHS was 3.21 ± 0.43. Four of the 20 patients developed penile nodule while 2 of them had penile curvature which was not bothersome. Conclusion: Penile fracture remains primarily a clinical diagnosis. Although prompt diagnosis and an emergent surgical exploration provides good outcomes in terms of preservation of erectile function, patients should be apprised about the problems of penile nodule and curvature.

Objective To explore relationships between dose to periprostatic anatomic structures and erectile dysfunction (ED) outcomes in an institutional cohort treated with prostate brachytherapy. Methods The Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) instrument was administered for stage cT1-T2 prostate cancer patients treated with Pd-103 brachytherapy over a 10-year interval. Dose volume histograms for regional organs at risk and periprostatic regions were calculated with and without expansions to account for contouring uncertainty. Regression tree analysis clustered patients into ED risk groups. Results We identified 115 men treated with definitive prostate brachytherapy who had 2 years of complete follow-up. On univariate analysis, the subapical region (SAR) caudal to prostate was the only defined region with dose volume histograms parameters significant for potency outcomes. Regression tree analysis separated patients into low ED risk (mean 2-year SHIM 20.03), medium ED risk (15.02), and high ED risk (5.54) groups. Among patients with good baseline function (SHIM ≥ 17), a dose ≥72.75 Gy to 20% of the SAR with 1 cm expansion was most predictive for 2-year potency outcome. On multivariate analysis, regression tree risk group remained significant for predicting potency outcomes even after adjustment for baseline SHIM and age. Conclusion Dose to the SAR immediately caudal to prostate was predictive for potency outcomes in patients with good baseline function. Minimization of dose to this region may improve potency outcomes following prostate brachytherapy.

Background: Sexual activity is an important indicator of quality of life and is significantly impaired in patients with heart failure (HF). Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has positive effects on cardiac dysfunction and endothelial dysfunction that lead to erectile dysfunction (ED). We aimed to evaluate whether CRT may improve sexual activity in patients with HF. Methods: In total, 136 patients (mean age 61.8 ± 12.8 years) were evaluated for the study. All patients filled the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaire for evaluation of their erectile functions before CRT device implantation. One hundred eighty days after CRT device implantation, the patients were re-evaluated with SHIM questionnaire. Despite the neuroanatomy knowledge of the prostate described initially in the 1980's and the robotic surgery advantages in terms of operative view magnification, potency outcomes following robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy still challenge surgeons and patients due to its multifactorial etiology. Recent studies performed in our center have described that, in addition to the surgical technique, some important factors are associated with erectile dysfunction (ED) following robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). These include preoperative Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) score, age, preoperative Gleason score, and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). After performing 15,000 cases, in this article we described our current Robotic-assisted Radical Prostatectomy technique with details and considerations regarding the optimal approach to neurovascular bundle preservation.

This study evaluated erectile function and sexual quality of life (QoL), and predictive factors for erectile dysfunction (ED) and the deterioration of sexual QoL in 70 patients who underwent low-dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR-BT) alone for prostate cancer without androgen deprivation therapy. Erectile function and sexual QoL were evaluated before and 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 months after LDR-BT. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to determine whether age, prostate volume, hypertension, diabetes, Brinkman's index, testosterone, baseline Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) score and post-implant dosimetry parameters could predict ED and deterioration of sexual QoL at 24 and 60 months after LDR-BT. After 24 and 60 months, ED was noted in 39 of 70 patients and 42 of 64 patients respectively. Furthermore, sexual QoL worsened in 42 of 70 and 43 of 64 patients respectively. Baseline SHIM score was identified as a significant predictor of ED (24 months: odds ratio [OR]: 0.83, p = 0.02; 60 months: OR: 0.83, p = 0.03) and the deterioration of sexual QoL (24 months: OR: 0.84, p = 0.03). LDR-BT for prostate cancer promoted decreased erectile function and sexual QoL, with high preimplant potency being a significant predictor of ED and the deterioration of sexual QoL.

Faulty manufactured product causes huge economic loss in the manufacturing industry. A local company produces a power transfer unit (PTU) for the vehicle industry and in this production 3% of PTU are rejected due to a mismatch of shim (a small mechanical part supporting PTU). Today the dimension of a shim is predicted manually by human experts. However, there are several problems due to the manual prediction of shim dimension, automatic central control from the cloud cannot be done. Additionally, it increases rejection rates and as a consequence decreases the reliability of the systems. To solve these problems, in this study shim prediction is implemented in the manufacturing of PTU with explainable Machine Learning (ML) which automates the manual shim selection process in the assembly line and explains the ML prediction. A hybrid approach that combines support vector regression (SVR) and k nearest neighbours (kNN) for the first part of the assembly line and Partial Least Squares (PLS) and kNN for the second part of the assembly line is used for shim prediction. The hybrid approach is selected due to better performance compared to the single ML model approach. Then, the most important features of the hybrid approach were identified with SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations). The result indicates due to this improved automation faulty PTU rate decreased from 3% to only 1%. Additionally, it enabled control from the cloud and increased reliability. From the explanation of the hybrid approach, it is evident that one of the features values has more impact on the prediction output and controlling this feature will reduce the rejection rate.

Background Ultrasound-guided greater occipital nerve (GON) block has been frequently used to treat various types of headaches, and botulinum toxin has recently begun to be used in patients with headache. Our study presents the long-term effect of botulinum toxin on GON block using ultrasound in patients with chronic headache in occipital area. Methods Patients with occipital headache were divided into two groups (bupivacaine: BUP group [n = 27], botulinum toxin: BTX group [n = 27]), and ultrasound-guided GON block was performed at the C2 level. GON was detected with ultrasound and distance from GON to midline, from the skin surface to GON, and size of GON were measured in both groups. Visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and Likert scale were assessed at pretreatment and at 1, 4, 8, and 24 weeks after treatment in both groups. Results The distance from GON to midline was 18.9 ± 4.4 mm (right) and 17.3 ± 3.8 mm (left). The depth from the skin was 12.9 ± 1.5 mm (right) and 13.4 ± 1.6 mm (left). GON size was 3.1 mm on both sides. The VAS score and patient satisfaction score (Likert scale) in 4, 8, and 24 weeks after injection were superior for the BTX than the BUP group. Conclusions Ultrasound-guided GON block using BTX is effective in reducing short-term and long-term pain in patients with chronic headache in the occipital area.

To report our experience with urethroplasty for bulbar stricture due to a straddle injury based on surgical and patient-reported outcomes. Patients who underwent urethroplasty for bulbar stricture due to a straddle injury between 2010 and 2018 were retrospectively analyzed (N = 132). Successful urethroplasty was defined as the absence of the need for additional treatment. The patients completed the validated Urethral Stricture Surgery Patient-reported Outcome Measure and Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaires before (baseline) and 1 year after urethroplasty. The median (interquartile range) age was 50 (36–62) years; urethral stricture length estimated from urethrograms, 8.6 (5.1–12.5) mm; and postoperative follow-up, 41 (22–56) months. Urethroplasty was performed through excision with primary anastomosis in 95.5% (n = 126) and onlay augmentation with a buccal mucosa graft in 4.5% (n = 6). Urethroplasty was successful in 98.5% (n = 130). The 2 failures due to periurethral abscess were successfully salvaged with another urethroplasty. Eighty-four patients (63.6%) completed the questionnaires at 1 year postoperatively. Introduction.Voice is the result of vocal cord vibrations and resonance effects of the vocal tract, therefore, the instrumental monitoring of the vibrations themselves is one of the essential aspects of objective instrumental assessment of voice. Inadequate height and volume, as well as increased nasality, represent the basic characteristics of voice in hearing-impaired persons. The aim of the study was to perform a detailed analysis of the acoustic structure of vowel /a/ in the hearing-impaired persons and in those with normal hearing and voice. Methods. The sample comprised 40 participants, aged 17 to 20 years (18.50 ±1.13), both sexes (50% males), divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 20 participants with moderately-severe hearing loss (56-70 dB), while the second group included 20 normal-hearing participants. Members of both groups were equal to each other in sex and age (± 3 months). The research was conducted in secondary schools, the Faculty of Medicine in Foča, as well as in Special School with a Student's Dormitory "Bubanj" in Niš during May 2018. Results. A statistically significant difference between hearing-impaired and normal-hearing speakers was found in 11 out of 14 tested acoustic parameters of vowel /a/: Standard Deviation of Fundamental Frequency (STD), Absolute Jitter (Jitta), Percentage of Jitter (Jitt), Relative Average Perturbation (RAP), Fundamental Frequency Variation (vFo), Shimmer (Shdb), Percentage of Shimmer (Shim), Amplitude Perturbation Quotient (APQ), Noise-to-Harmonic Ratio (NHR), Soft Phonation Index (SPI) and Frequency Tremor Intensity Index (FTRI) whereby the hearing-impaired participants showed higher values of the above-mentioned parameters. Conclusion: The obtained results show pathological changes in the voice of hearing-impaired persons, as well as the need for voice rehabilitation. Uvod. Glas je produkt vibratornog kretanja glasnica i rezonantnih efekata vokalnog trakta, stoga je instrumentalno praćenje samog vibratornog procesa jedan od bitnih aspekata objektivnog instrumentalnog ispitivanja glasa. Neodgovarajuća visina i neprimjerena glasnost, kao i pojačana nazalnost, predstavljaju osnovne karakteristike glasa kod osoba sa oštećenim sluhom. Cilj istraživanja je bio da se uradi detaljna analiza i poređenje akustičke strukture vokala A kod ispitanika sa oštećenim sluhom i ispitanika sa urednim sluhom i normalnim glasom. Metode. Ukupan uzorak je činilo 40 ispitanika, uzrasta od 17 do 20 godina (18,50 ± 1,13), oba pola (50% muškog), koji su podijeljeni u dvije grupe. Prvu grupu je činilo 20 ispitanika sa umjereno teškim oštećenjem sluha (56-70 dB), dok je druga grupa obuhvatila 20 ispitanika bez oštećenja sluha. Ispitanici obje grupe su međusobno ujednačeni po polu i uzrastu (± 3 mjeseca). Istraživanje je realizovano tokom maja 2018. godine u srednjim školama i Medicinskom fakultetu u Foči, i specijalnoj školi sa domom učenika ,,Bubanj" u Nišu. Rezultati. Statistički značajna razlika između ispitanika sa urednim i oštećenim sluhom utvrđena je za 11 od 14 ispitivanih akustičkih parametara vokala A: standardna devijacija osnovne frekvencije (STD), ukupan jitter (Jitta), jitter procenat (Jitt), relativna srednja vrijednost perturbacije (RAP), koeficijent varijacije osnovne frekvencije (vFo), shimmer (Shdb), shimmer procenat (Shim), koeficijent perturbacije amplitude (APQ), odnos šuma i harmonika (NHR), indeks prigušene fonacije (SPI) i indeks intenziteta osnovne frekvencije i tremora (FTRI), pri čemu ispitanici sa oštećenim sluhom ostvaruju veće vrijednosti navednih parametara. Zaključak. Prikazani rezultati ukazuju na patološke promjene u glasu kod ispitanika sa oštećenim sluhom i potrebu za rehabilitacijom glasa ovih ispitanika.

Evidence has been arising suggesting that Botulinum toxin type A [BTX-A] injections can relax smooth muscles fibers in the treatment of obesity and Detrusor muscle over-activity, similar effect on cavernosal smooth muscles would help in the treatment of erectile dysfunction [ED] resistant to oral and intracavernous injection [ICI] therapy, thus it could be an alternative option for failed medical and other injectable therapy.. to compare safety, efficacy and durability of different doses of BTX-A [50 and 100 Unit] in the treatment of Vasculogenic Erectile Dysfunction after failure of other ICI therapy.. Forty-five patients with Vasculogenic erectile dysfunction who are failed treatment with non-surgical options were included at this study after elimination of all patients who are not matching eligible criteria or not complete the follow up program. The patients were randomized into 3equal groups, each group include 15 patients. Group [I] injected with 100U BTX-A, group [II] injected with 50U BTX-A and Control group injected with normal saline. All groups underwent follow up at 2 weeks, 3 months and 6 months intervals after injection, for assessment of all subjective data as, IIEF-5 Questionnaire [SHIM score], Erection hardness score [EHS], Sexual encounter profile [SEP 2 and 3], Global assessment score[ GAS 2 and 3]. Also assessment of objective data by penile Doppler details.. Although 25 patients [55.6%] respond to BTX-A injection subjectively and objectively {13 patients [28.9%] in group [I] and 12 patients [26.7%] in group [II]}, but this impressive effect was not durable especially in group [II] as 9 patients [20%] show lost effect through complete follow up till 6 month in comparison to 5 patients [11.1%] in group [I] show same lost effect. Besides that, 5 patients [11.1 %] not responding to this treatment option {two patients [4.4%] in group [I] and 3 patients [6.7%] in group [II], also patients in Control group show non-significant subjective improvement. BTX-A could be a potential but not durable therapy for erectile dysfunction, as BTX-A [50 and 100 Unite] show almost same efficacy but, with complete follow up through 6 months, BTX-A 100U is more durable than 50U

Summary Objective To evaluate the Acoustic Voice Quality Index (AVQI) and its isolated acoustic measures accuracy in discriminating voices with different degrees of deviation. Methods Two hundred and fifty-eight voice samples (160 dysphonic; 98 vocally healthy). Information regarding acoustic analysis and overall degree of deviation (G) were considered. The acoustic analysis consisted of the AVQI total score and its isolated acoustic measures: smoothed cepstral peak prominence (CPPs); harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR); shimmer local and dB (Shim, ShdB); the general slope of the spectrum (Slope) and tilt of the regression line through the spectrum (Tilt). The auditory-perceptual judgment was the median G score of five voice specialists (Cohen's = 0.605–0.773; Fleiss = 0.370). Quadratic discriminant analysis and accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of performance measures were used to investigate the discriminatory power of these measures. Results AVQI presented acceptable accuracy to differentiate voices with no vocal deviation and with vocal deviation (73.9%) and among the degrees of deviation (mild vs. moderate = 70.49%; mild vs. moderate = 71.39%; moderate vs. severe = 87.5%). No isolated acoustic measurement was consistent with differentiating voice quality among all degrees of deviation. A combination of five acoustic measures (CPPs, HNR, ShdB, Slope, Tilt) had the highest accuracy to differentiate between healthy and deviated voice (75.55%). Shimmer was more accurate to discriminate between voices with mild, moderate, and severe deviation; almost all isolated acoustic measurements were accurate to discriminate voices with moderate and severe deviation. The combination of acoustic measures presented higher accuracy (mild vs. moderate = 70.21%–74.29%; mild vs. moderate = 71.53%–76.11%; moderate vs. severe = 86%–95.50%). Conclusion AVQI is an accepted tool to discriminate among different degrees of vocal deviation, and more accurate between voices with moderate and severe deviations. Isolated acoustic measures perform better when discriminating voices with a higher degree of deviation. A combination of acoustic parameters, with the same weight, is more accurate to discriminate different degrees of deviation, however, not consistent.

Introduction Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i) are first-line therapy for most men with erectile dysfunction (ED). If ineffective, vacuum erection devices, intracavernous injections, and penile prosthesis implantation are suitable as second- or third-line therapies. However, very few patients select these therapies. It is critically important to improve erectile function with oral administration of effective agents. Administration of L-citrulline or transresveratrol in animal experiments has been reported to improve erectile function, but few such experiments have been performed on humans with ED. Aim We aimed to investigate the efficacy of combination therapy of L-citrulline and transresveratrol in patients with ED despite their use of PDE5i. Methods In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover pilot study, men with ED (Sexual Health Inventory for Men [SHIM] score below 16) despite on-demand use of PDE5i received a placebo for 1 month or the active treatment (L-citrulline 800 mg/day and transresveratrol 300 mg/day) for another month. Patients continued on-demand use of PDE5i. Main Outcome Measure The SHIM score, Erection Hardness Score (EHS), Aging Male Symptoms Scale-sexual domain (AMS-SD), and adverse events were examined. Results 20 patients ages 29–78 years were enrolled, and after 6 men withdrew, 13 concluded the study without adverse events. Mean SHIM score for the active treatment increased significantly (10.96 ± 1.21) compared with baseline (8.32 ± 1.21) and placebo (8.31 ± 1.23) (both P < .05). Mean EHS score for the active treatment (2.56 ± 0.26) also increased from baseline (2.31 ± 0.26), but not significantly (P = .79). Mean AMS-SD score was not significantly different in either group. Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study to show that combination therapy of L-citrulline and transresveratrol is effective for ED treatment in men with added on-demand use of PDE5i. This combination supplement may be added if PDE5i is insufficient.

Background: The vocal assessment process should con-sider the multidimensionality involved in the demonstration of a voice disorder. Auditory perceptual assessment is the most commonly used clinical voice assessment method (gold standard) for evaluation of voice disorders. However, it has been heavily criticized because it is subjective and classifies severity of vocal disorders but does not address the impact of the vocal disorder has on quality of life which may go beyond the level of perceived voice change. So, it is possible that self-assessment instruments capture a different aspect of the vocal function that cannot be derived from auditory-perceptual or acoustic analysis.Aim of Study: The aim of this work is to investigate the correlation between grade of dysphonia obtained by auditory perceptual assessment, acoustic measures and the degree of handicap a patient experiences (as measured by the Arabic VHI) as a result of their voice disorder.Study Design: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study.Patients and Methods: 70 adult patients with voice com-plaints referred for voice evaluation in the Unite of Phoniatrics, Ain Shams University were included in this study aged 18 years-60 years and 35 normal adult subjects as a control group. Auditory perceptual assessment, acoustic analysis, and appli-cation of Arabic VHI questionnaire were done for all cases.Results: A significant correlation was found between grade of dysphonia and functional subscale of the Arabic VHI. Significant correlation was found between grade of dysphonia and amplitude perturbation quotient (APQ%) and shimmer percent (Shim%).Significant correlation was found between Arabic VHI total score and average fundamental frequency (F0), significant correlation between functional subscale of the Arabic VHI and average fundamental frequency (F0) and jitter percent (Jitt%) and near significant correlation between physical subscale of the Arabic VHI and average fundamental frequency.Conclusion: Auditory perceptual assessment, acoustic analysis and patient's vocal self-assessment measure different aspects of the voice and are not interchangeable. These measures provide complementary rather than redundant infor-mation.

PURPOSE: We aimed to assess post-interventional and 36-month follow-up results of a single-center, single-arm, in-bore phase I trial of focal laser ablation (FLA) guided by multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI). METHODS: FLA procedures were done in-bore MRI using a transperineal approach. Primary endpoints were feasibility and safety expressed as lack of grade 3 complications. Secondary endpoints were changes in international prostate symptom score (IPSS), sexual health inventory for men (SHIM), quality of life (QoL) scores, and serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels. Treatment outcomes were assessed by combined mpMRI-ultrasound fusion-guided and extended sextant systematic biopsy after 12, 24, and optionally after 36 months. RESULTS: Fifteen participants were included. Seven patients (46.67%) had Gleason 3+3 and 8 patients (53.33%) had Gleason 3+4 cancer. All patients tolerated the procedure well, and no grade 3/4 complications occurred. All grade 1 and 2 complications were transient and resolved completely. There was no significant change in mean IPSS from baseline (−1, p = 0.460) and QoL (0, p = 0.441) scores following FLA but there was a significant drop in mean SHIM scores (−2, p = 0.010) compared to pretreatment baselines. Mean PSA significantly decreased after FLA (−2.5, p < 0.001). Seven out of 15 patients (46.67%) had residual cancer in, adjacent, or in close proximity to the treatment area (1 × 4+3=7, 1 × 3+4=7, and 5 × 3+3=6). Four out of 15 patients (26.67%) underwent salvage therapy (2 repeat FLA, 2 radical prostatectomy). CONCLUSION: After 3 years of follow-up we conclude focal laser ablation is safe and feasible without significant complications.

Purpose We sought to compare changes in patient-reported quality of life (PRQOL) following stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), high dose rate (HDR), and low dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy for prostate cancer. Materials and methods International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Sexual Health Inventory For Men (SHIM), and Expanded Prostate cancer Index Composite Short Form (EPIC-26) were prospectively collected for men with low/intermediate-risk cancer treated at a single institution. We used Generalized Estimating Equations to identify associations between variables and early (3 to 6 mo) or late (1 to 2 y) PRQOL scores. Minimally important differences (MID) were compared with assess clinical relevance. Results A total of 342 LDR, 159 HDR, and 112 SBRT patients treated from 2001 to 2018 were eligible. Gleason score, PSA, and age were lower among LDR patients compared with HDR/SBRT. Unadjusted baseline IPSS score was similar among all groups. Adjusted IPSS worsened at all time points compared with baseline after LDR/HDR. At early/late time points, rates of IPSS MID after LDR were higher compared to HDR/SBRT. There were no IPSS differences between SBRT and HDR. All modalities showed early and late SHIM worsening. There were no temporal differences in SHIM between SBRT and brachytherapy. There were no differences in EPIC subdomains between HDR and SBRT. Bowel symptoms worsened early after SBRT, whereas urinary irritative/obstructive symptoms worsened late after HDR. Among all domains, MID after SBRT and HDR were similar. Conclusions In a cohort of patients treated with modern radiotherapy techniques, HDR and SBRT resulted in clinically meaningful improved urinary PRQOL compared with LDR.

Introduction. The function of the masticatory apparatus is complete when the dentition is intact with contact between the individual teeth and proper occlusion with the antagonists. The primary aim of the study was at evaluating which of the occlusal indicators is the most commonly used in practice, and the secondary aim was whether dentists are willing to use digital methods to examine occlusion. Materials and Methods. The main primary information of the survey was collected by sending electronically anonymous questionnaires to 2014 dentists, randomly selected from all regions of the country. 228 questionnaires were filled in and returned. To achieve the goal of the study, the self-developed questionnaire was created and tested to survey the opinion about the use of occlusal indicators in dental practice. Each questionnaire contains questions about the sociodemographic and professional status of the people in the group and their opinion about the positives and negatives and the effectiveness of occlusal indicators. Results. The obtained results confirm the statement that the most frequently used occlusal indicator in dental practice is the articulation paper. Articulation foil and silk are used less frequently than articulation paper. Of the listed quality indicators, Shimstock foil is rarely used in practice. Of the indicated quantitative indicators, the T-Scan system is more used than the OccluSense system. In the era of rapid technology development, the opinion and desire of dentists to increasingly want to introduce in their clinical practice quantitative methods are the digital diagnosis of occlusion. Conclusion. In any dental practice, if technically possible, digital methods would be used, giving more accurate and reliable data on the registered occlusal contacts.

The present study aims at presenting the impact of manual diaphragm relaxation therapy on the voice emission tested in an anechoic chamber and changes in the body posture during singing using the Zebris posturographic and pedobarographic platform. A pilot study on three cases has been conducted (patient 1 – male aged 21, student of the 2nd year of Academy of Music in Krakow, patient 2 – male aged 34, with more than 25 years of choral singing and advanced musical experience, patient 3 – female 24, with around 10 years of choral singing experience and primary musical school graduation). An original survey questionnaire was used, enabling determination the problematics associated with the profession of singer. A posturographic platform (Zebris) was used that revealed deviations during the scenic movement (by performing an appropriately developed repertoire). Subsequently, a voice emission examination was carried out in an anechoic chamber of the Department of Mechanics and Vibroacoustics, AGH University of Science and Technology. Directly after the examination, the examined individual was subject to a manual therapy lasting several minutes. The applied fascial techniques for diaphragm consisted in the implementation of a prolonged stretching of the myofascial complex with the use of low load. After the therapy, testing with the use of the aforementioned methods was repeated. The present study refers to the impact of the diaphragm function on voice emission parameters. In the pilot study for patient 1 and 2, 15 voice emission parameters improved. The analysis of the above results showed the variability before and after the diaphragm relaxation therapy in parameters such as Fo, Jitt and Shim. In the examined case of patient 1 and 2, the value of the parameter Jitt decreased by almost half, while Shim decreased by about 40 % after the therapy. However, such changes were not observed for patient 3. It may be influenced by many factors, such as stress or worse disposition on the day of the examination. The presented preliminary study expands the knowledge on the function of the diaphragm and the awareness of the function of ventilatory muscles during singing, which may result in enhanced efficiency of working with voice. In the future it is planned the study on bigger group students of Academy of Music in Krakow with the control group.

Objective To evaluate the frequency of sexual intercourse and sexual activity of patients after nerve-sparing (NS) robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP). Patients and methods We prospectively obtained 2-years longitudinal Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite (EPIC) and Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) score data from 99 patients. We classified the frequency of sexual intercourse and sexual activity as 'none', 'less than once a week', 'about once a week', 'several times a week', and 'daily'. Results The percentages of patients who took part in sexual activity before and at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 months after NS RARP were 55.6%, 27.9%, 38.8%, 42.5%, 44.4%, 41.7%, and 42.1%, respectively. The percentages of patients who took part in sexual intercourse before and at 3, 6, 9, and 12, 18, and 24 months after NS RARP were 40.4%, 9.0%, 13.3%, 16.3%, 16.7%, 22.2%, and 23.7%, respectively. Preoperative sexual status was classified into two groups: those who had sexual intercourse or those who only had sexual activity except sexual intercourse. Sexual function (SF) was investigated longitudinally using the EPIC and SHIM data between the two groups. The SHIM data showed an improvement in SF in the sexual intercourse group, but did not do so in the sexual activity except sexual intercourse group. On the other hand, SF in the EPIC data might reflect the postoperative improvement of SF in the sexual activity except sexual intercourse group. Conclusion There was a large discrepancy between the percentages of patients taking part in sexual intercourse and sexual activity; therefore, surveys of postoperative SF are recommended to include not only sexual intercourse but also sexual activity.
