There are numerous studies on polar amplification and its influence on mid-latitude weather and climate. However, assessments on whether polar amplification occurs in Antarctica are rarely conducted. Based on the latest atmospheric reanalysis of ERA5 produced by European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), we have defined the Antarctic amplification index, and calculated the trend of annual and seasonal Surface Air Temperature (SAT) mean during 1979–2019 for Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) and the trend mean of different meridional sectors of Antarctic sub regions including East Antarctic Ice Sheet (EAIS), West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) and Antarctic Peninsula (AP). Antarctic amplification shows regional differences and seasonal variations. Antarctica shows a slight warming with the largest magnitude in AP. The temperature anomalies indicate the least fluctuations in austral summer, and the more fluctuations in winter and spring. In austral summer, the warming trend domains EAIS and WAIS, while the cooling trend appears over AP. The zonal mean in Southern Hemisphere maintains a warming trend in the low latitudes, and fluctuates greatly in the middle and high latitudes. The strongest Antarctic amplification phenomenon occurs in spring, with the amplification index of 1.20. For AP, the amplification occurs in austral autumn, and the amplification index is 2.16. At South Pole and the surrounding regions, SAT for land only fluctuates largely and shows different trends in different seasons. The mechanism of Antarctic amplification is unclear till now, and its research suffers from the limitation of measured data. This suggests that future research needs progress in comprehensive ground observation network, remote sensing data accumulation, and high-resolution climate modeling with better representation of both atmospheric and cryospheric processes in Antarctica.

Prestressed concrete pipe pile with high bearing capacity, the advantages of convenient construction, low cost and widely used in practical engineering, because of the prestressed high strength concrete in use process is in complex stress state, both are under a lot of vertical load, and horizontal seismic action needs to be considered at the same time, it is necessary under the condition of considering the vertical load bearing capacity of prestressed high strength concrete level and considering the loading level, the horizontal bearing capacity. Scholars at home and abroad based on the simple hypothesis, puts forward the calculation method of a lot of interaction with soil, in the future will be adopted in calculation, using ABAQUS finite element analysis, this paper established the three-dimensional finite element model of prestressed concrete pipe pile, respectively under different vertical pressure (P = 4000 kn, P = 4800 kn, P = 6000 kn) one-way load and calculated the horizontal bearing capacity, and under repeated load, respectively to study the size of the different vertical pressure and different reinforcement stirrup ratio on its bearing capacity and seismic performance. The results show that the stiffness of pipe pile decreases significantly with the increase of vertical pressure under different vertical loads. With the increase of vertical load, the ductility and energy dissipation capacity of the components decrease gradually. The horizontal bearing capacity of prestressed high strength concrete pipe decreases with the increase of vertical pressure. However, its amplitude decreases with the increase of vertical pressure value.

The sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange reaction (SuFEx), developed by Sharpless and co-workers in 2014, is a new category of click reaction that creates molecular connections with absolute reliability and unprecedented efficiency through a sulfur(VI) hub. Ethenesulfonyl fluoride (ESF), as one of the most important sulfur(VI) hubs, exhibits extraordinary reactivity in SuFEx click chemistry and organic synthesis. A protocol of SO2F2-mediated installation of sulfonyl fluoride onto primary amides has been developed providing a new portal to sulfur(VI) fluoride exchange (SuFEx) click chemistry. The generated molecules contain pharmaceutically important amide and -SO2F moieties for application in the discovery of new therapeutics.

A facile method for the construction of esters through dehydrative coupling of carboxylic acids with alcohols is developed. The reactions are mediated by sulfuryl fluoride (SO2F2) at room temperature and proceed with high efficiency. The method has several advantages including broad substrate scope, mild conditions, excellent functional group compatibility and affords high yields, even on gram scale.

The protocol for simple, efficient, and mild synthesis of oxazolyl sulfonyl fluorides was developed through Rh2(OAc)4-catalyzed annulation of methyl-2-diazo-2-(fluorosulfonyl)acetate (MDF) or its ethyl ester derivative with nitriles. This practical method provides a general and direct route to a unique class of highly functionalized oxazolyl-decorated sulfonyl fluoride warheads with great potential in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, and drug discovery.

Cyclobutanes are an important class of motifs present in a wide range of natural products and other biologically significant molecules. A photocatalytic [2 + 2] cycloaddition between pyridones or isoquinolones and ethenesulfonyl fluoride was achieved, providing a portal to a class of unique cyclobutane-fused pyridinyl sulfonyl fluorides with quaternary rigid rings (30 examples). Further applications of these novel sulfonyl fluoride molecules in SuFEx click chemistry were also accomplished, providing the corresponding sulfonates and sulphonamides with reasonable yields.

The construction of amide bonds and peptide linkages is one of the most fundamental transformations in all life processes and organic synthesis. The synthesis of structurally ubiquitous amide motifs is essential in the assembly of numerous important molecules such as peptides, proteins, alkaloids, pharmaceutical agents, polymers, ligands and agrochemicals. A method of SO2F2-mediated direct clickable coupling of carboxylic acids with amines was developed for the synthesis of a broad scope of amides in a simple, mild, highly efficient, robust and practical manner (>110 examples, >90% yields in most cases). The direct click reactions of acids and amines on a gram scale are also demonstrated using an extremely easy work-up and purification process of washing with 1 M aqueous HCl to provide the desired amides in greater than 99% purity and excellent yields.

The multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the most prevalent human pathogens involved in many minor to major disease burdens throughout the world. Inhibition of biofilm formation is an attractive strategy to treat diseases associated with MRSA infection. In the present investigation, a series of functional group diverse (hetero)aryl fluorosulfonyl analogs were designed, synthesized and tested as antibacterial agents against Staphylococcal spp., and as anti-biofilm candidates. Compounds 8, 15, and 67 were found to possess potent in vitro antibacterial activity among this class of sulfonyl fluorides (MIC = 0.818 ± 0.42, 0.840 ± 0.37 and 0.811 ± 0.37 μg/mL respectively). The analogs 8, 15, 36, and 67 exhibited outstanding anti-biofilm properties compared to other available synthetic antibiotics. The efficacy of synthetic analogs displayed membrane-damaging effect and they are also validated by cellular content release assay. The insight physiological changes were explored by studying the intracellular redox activities through changing cyclic voltammetric (CV) method. The compounds 8, 15, 22, 32, 36, 51, and 67 were found to participate in the interfering in the electron transport chain (ETC) of MRSA. The analogs 8, 15, and 67 possess great potentiality for discovery and development of anti-staphylococcal drugs to treat the MRSA infections.

The first Rh-catalyzed activation of ortho sp2 C–H bonds of aldehydes (ketones) for monoselective coupling with ethenesulfonyl fluoride was accomplished without covalent or transient preinstallation of imines. The 42 examples revealed that the developed method has the advantage of a wide scope and functional-group tolerability. Application of this method for complicated natural product modification was also accomplished.

A method for the synthesis of 2-aryl ethenesulfonyl fluorides and sulfonyl fluoride substituted γ-lactams was developed through a rhodium(III)-catalyzed oxidative coupling of N-methoxybenzamides and ethenesulfonyl fluoride (ESF) in moderate to excellent yields. This protocol featured an exclusive E-stereo selectivity and a monoselective ortho activation of sp2 C–H bonds of the phenyl rings. This research revealed that the much less reactive Heck coupling partner ethenesulfonyl fluoride (ESF) possesses the feasibility for coupling with sp2 C–H bonds to provide a class of new sulfonyl fluoride scaffolds for the SuFEx click reaction.

Background This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with overall survival (OS) of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients. Method Records of patients with diagnosed ESCC were reviewed. Leukocyte counts and patients' characteristics were extracted from their clinical records to calculate NLR. Correlation between NLR and baseline characteristics with overall survival (OS) was then analyzed using Cox regression. The patients were then separated into higher and lower NLR groups according to median NLR. OS was further compared between the 2 groups. Results A total of 1281 patients were included in the study. Cox regression analysis showed a significant correlation of NLR with OS of ESCC patients. The median pretreatment NLR was identified as 2.86. Higher NLR was associated with worse prognosis in terms of OS. Conclusions Pretreatment NLR is independently associated with OS of ESCC patients. Therefore, NLR may be used as a predictive indicator for pretreatment evaluation and adjustment of treatment regimen.

Triarylsulfonium, alkyl- and fluoroalkyl(diaryl)sulfonium, and aryl(dialkyl)sulfonium triflates are successfully used as a new family of cross-coupling participants in the Sonogashira reaction as aryldiazonium, diaryliodonium, and tetraphenylphosphonium salts. It was found that terminal alkynes reacted mildly with triarylsulfonium or (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)diphenylsulfonium triflate at room temperature under Pd- and Cu-cocatalysis to give the corresponding arylalkynes in up to >99% yield. This protocol represents the first use of arylsulfonium salts as cross-coupling partners in the Pd/Cu-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction.

(E)-2-(hetero)arylethenesulfonyl fluorides and (E,E)-1,3-dienylsulfonyl fluorides are bis-electrophiles and rare members of the sulfonyl fluoride family with limited information being known of their reactivity and synthetic utility. The direct annulation reaction of these 2-substituted ethenesulfonyl fluorides with medicinally important enolizable pyrazolones and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds utilizing catalytic DBU in DCM under mild conditions leads to over 50 structurally diverse δ-sultone fused heterocycles with a pyrazolone ring or a cyclic enone, respectively, in good to excellent yield. The double bond at the 1-position adjacent to the sulfonyl fluoride group in 1,3-dienylsulfonyl fluoride is the chemoselective site of reactivity but is less reactive than the double bond of arylethenesulfonyl fluoride. High turnover and robustness of construction for these fused heterocycles, including the novel fused pyrazolone δ-sultone heterocycle series, may make compounds like these attractive to drug discovery, development and material science.

A practical one-pot process for hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of phenolic derivatives to their corresponding arenes was developed. This method provided a facile route to upgrading bio-oil. The substrate scope of this protocol was wide, complicated and multi-phenolic compounds were also smoothly hydrodeoxygenated to their corresponding arenes.

A highly efficient and chemoselective method for the synthesis of diaryl disulfides is developed via a visible light-promoted coupling of readily accessible arenediazonium tetrafluoroborates and CS2. This practical and convenient protocol provides a direct pathway for the assembly of a series of disulfides in an environmentally friendly manner with good to excellent yields.

A series of new benzo[d]thiazole-hydrazones were synthesized and characterized by analytical and spectroscopic techniques. All the compounds were screened for their in vitro inhibition of H+/K+ ATPase and anti-inflammatory effects. The results revealed that compounds 6–8, 13–15, 18–20, 22, 23 and 27–30 displayed excellent inhibitory activity against H+/K+ ATPase, and their IC50 values were lower than those of the standard compound omeprazole. Compounds 2–5, 9–12, 28 and 30 exhibited better anti-inflammatory activity in comparison to the standard compound indomethacin. Studies of the structure–activity relationship (SAR) showed that electron-donating groups (OH and OCH3) favored inhibitory activity against H+/K+ ATPase, whereas electron-withdrawing groups (F, Cl, Br and NO2) favored anti-inflammatory activity, and derivatives with both electron-donating (OH and OCH3) and electron-withdrawing (Br) groups (16–18) displayed reasonable activity, whereas aliphatic analogues (24–26) exhibited less activity and heterocyclic analogues (27–30) displayed moderate activity in both biological studies. Molecular docking studies were performed for all the synthesized compounds, among which compounds 19 and 20 exhibited the highest docking scores for inhibitory activity against H+/K+ ATPase, whereas compounds 10 and 12 displayed the highest docking scores for anti-inflammatory activity.

A series of diaryl(fluoroalkyl)sulfonium salts were synthesized from electron-rich diaryl sulfides and fluoroalkyl trifluoromethanesulfonates under solvent-free conditions. Unlike diaryl sulfides, dialkyl and alkyl(aryl) sulfides reacted with fluoroalkyl trifluoromethanesulfonates (e.g. CF3SO3CH2CF3, CF3SO3CH2CF2H) to provide trialkyl- and aryl(dialkyl)sulfonium trifluoromethanesulfonates in good yields, wherein dialkyl- and alkyl(aryl)(fluoroalkyl)sulfonium salts were formed, respectively, and nucleophilically attacked by a second sulfide to yield the non-fluorinated sulfoniums. The SN2-type reaction could stop at the first step and exclusively afford dialkyl- and alkyl(aryl)(fluoroalkyl)sulfonium salts, which was dramatically dependent upon the structure of sulfides, the nature of fluoroalkyl trifluoromethanesulfonates, the reactant ratio, and/or the reaction temperature. This protocol allows for an efficient and convenient access to a variety of alkyl and fluoroalkyl sulfonium salts.

The Pd-catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling of alkyl- and fluoroalkyl(diphenyl)sulfonium triflates with arylboronic acids was compared. The fluorine substitution on the alkyl groups of [Ph2SR][OTf] had a big influence on the reaction. Perfluoroalkyl(diphenyl)sulfonium triflates (2b–d) were unsuccessful participants in the Pd-catalyzed phenylation of arylboronic acid under the standard conditions because of the strong electronegativity of the long-chain perfluoroalkyl groups, which underwent S Rfn bond cleavage instead. Polyfluoroalkyl(diphenyl)sulfonium triflates (2f–h) reacted with arylboronic acid to afford the phenylation product in very low yields due to the tendency of deprotonation and β-F elimination of the sulfonium salts. Eventually, (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)diphenylsulfonium triflate (2e), methyl- or ethyl(diphenyl)sulfonium triflate (2i or 2j), and triphenylsulfonium triflate (2m) were found to be more effective reagents than other tested phenylsulfounium salts for Pd-catalyzed phenylation, which provided much higher yields of the desired products under mild conditions.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with a strong inflammatory response, and inhibiting the response effectively prevents or ameliorates AKI. A series of novel arylpropionic esters were designed, synthesized and evaluated their biological activity in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Novel arylpropionic esters bearing multi-functional groups showed significant anti-inflammatory activity, in which, compound 13b exhibited the most potent activity through dose-dependent inhibiting the production of nitric oxide (NO, IC50 = 3.52 μM), TNF-α and IL-6 (84.1% and 33.6%, respectively), as well as suppressing the expression of iNOS, COX-2 and TLR4 proteins. In C57BL/6 mice with cisplatin-induced AKI, compound 13b improved kidney function, inhibited inflammatory development, and reduced pathological damage of kidney tissues. In brief, this arylpropionic ester scaffold may be developed as anti-inflammatory agents.

A method for the synthesis of difficult-to-access amides was developed through the coupling of sterically hindered carboxylic acids and electron deficient amines via SO2F2-mediated dehydration. The method feathers with broad substrate scope, mild conditions, excellent functional group compatibility and high yields.

The first Pd-catalyzed Mizoroki–Heck-type reaction of [Ph2SRfn][OTf] with alkenes is described. The reaction of [Ph2SRfn][OTf] (Rfn = CF3, CH2CF3) with alkenes in the presence of 10 mol% Pd[P(t-Bu)3]2 and TsOH at room temperature provided the corresponding phenylation products in good to high yields. The bases that benefit the traditional Mizoroki–Heck reactions severely inhibited the transformation with [Ph2SRfn][OTf], whereas acids significantly improved the reaction. This protocol supplies a new class of cross-coupling partners for Mizoroki–Heck-type reactions and gains important insights into the reactivity of phenylsulfonium salts either with or without fluorine-containing alkyl groups as the promising phenylation reagents in organic synthesis.

(E)-Bis(phosphonium)ethylenes were synthesized from aryl-, alkyl-, and arylalkylphosphines under solvent-free conditions using TfOCH2CF2H as reagent. The reaction allows for a convenient access to vinylenebis(trialkylphosphonium) salts in good to high yields.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. There is always a huge demand for novel anticancer drugs and diverse new natural or synthetic compounds are developed continuously by scientists. Presently, a large number of drugs in clinical practice have showed pervasive side effect and multidrug resistance. Sulfonyl or sulfonamide hybrids became one of the most attractive subjects due to their broad spectrum of pharmacological activities. Sulfonyl hybrids were broadly explored for their anticancer activities and it was found that they possess minimum side effect along with multi-drug resistance activity. This review describes the most recent applications of sulfonyl hybrid analogues in anticancer drug discovery and further discusses the mechanistic insights, structure-activity relationships and molecular docking studies for the potent derivatives.

Background: Phenstatin and their derivatives display remarkable antiproliferative activity toward a wide variety of preclinical tumor models. Structural simplicity and excellent stability of phenstatins offer a stimulating premise for developing various derivatives with profound antimitotic activity and excellent cytotoxicity. Objective: To do analysis of literature that phenstatins derivatives inhibit tubulin polymerization through their interaction at the colchicine binding site of microtubules and arrest the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. In addition, phenstatin derivatives are undergoing clinical evaluation as vascular targeting/disrupting agents and also exhibit direct antiangiogenic properties. Methods: An organised well designed and appropriately managed search of bibliographic databases for peer-reviewed research literature using a focused review question and inclusion/ exclusion criteria has been done for this article. Conclusion: In this review article, the synthesis and structure-activity relationships of phenstatin and a wide number of their reported analogues with modifications to ring A, ring B, and to the keto position are discussed in the perspective of medicinal chemistry with proper conclusion.

A new coordination polymer, [Zn(L)(1,2-bdc)(H2O)]·1.5H2O (1) (L = N,N′,N′′-tris(3-pyridyl)-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxamide, 1,2-bdc = 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid), has been synthesized through the hydrothermal method and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in triclinic, space group P -1, a = 7.403(3) A, b = 13.900(5) A, c = 17.317(6) A, α = 71.591(5)°, β = 88.225(5)°, γ = 75.940(5)°, V = 1638.1(10) A 3, Z = 2, C32H27ZnN6O9.5, Mr = 712.97, Dc = 1.445 g/cm3, F(000) = 734, GOOF = 0.968. In this structure, each two bdc2- ligands connect two Zn(II) atoms to form a four-membered ring with two L ligands acting as the two arms of the four-membered ring. The adjacent four-membered rings are further extended to a 3D supramolecular structure by hydrogen bonding interactions and π-π stacking. Moreover, the luminescent property has also been investigated.

Four metal(II) coordination polymers based on a flexible ligand N , N ′, N ″-tris(3-pyridyl)-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxamide (L), namely, [Co(L 1 )(L)] n ( 1 ), {[Cd(L 1 )(L)]·0.5H 2 O} n ( 2 ), {[Zn 1.5 (L 2 )(L)(H 2 O) 2 ]·1.5H 2 O} n ( 3 ) and {[Co 1.5 (L 2 )(L)(H 2 O) 2 ]·1.5H 2 O} n ( 4 ), where H 2 L 1 = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid and H 3 L 2 = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The structure analyses reveal that compounds 1 and 2 are isomorphic three-dimensional networks and posses (3,5)-connected nets with (4 2 ·6) 2 (4 2 ·6 4 ·8 10 ·10) topology. Both 3 and 4 are isomorphic layered structures, which can be simplified as 2D → 2D interpenetrating undulated 6 3 - hcb nets. The structural differences indicate that the effect of polycarboxylate ligands play an important role in the resulting structures of these networks. Moreover, thermal properties and luminescent properties were also investigated for the compounds.

Using a flexible tripodal ligand N,N′,N″-tris(3-pyridyl)-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxamide and 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid, three metal(II) complexes formulated as [Co(pydc)(L)] n (1), [Zn(pydc)(L)] n (2), {[Ni(pydc)(L)]·2H2O} n (3) (L = N,N′,N″-tris(3-pyridyl)-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxamide, H2pydc = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods and single-crystal diffraction. In compounds 1 and 2, the L ligands acts as bridges to link the metal atoms into zigzag chain structures, which are further extended into three-dimensional (3D) metal–organic supramolecular frameworks by hydrogen bond interactions. In compound 3, the L ligands link three Ni(II) centers to form a two-dimensional (2D) hcb layered structure, and then, the adjacent nets interweave in parallel to generate a 3D structure by 2D → 3D interpenetration. The thermal stabilities of 1–3 and the luminescent properties of 2 in the solid state are also discussed. Three metal(II) coordination polymers, based on a flexible ligand N,N′,N″-tris(3-pyridyl)-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxamide and 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid, have been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, where thermal and photoluminescent properties were also investigated.

Removals of copper and zinc from municipal sludge from Tianjin Dongjiao Sewage Treatment Plant by using acetic acid - H2O2 way and the removals of heavy metals from municipal sludge extract fluid by using improved acetic acid- ferrite way were studied in experiment. The better technique condition to remove copper and zinc was that the quality concentration of acetic acid was 2mol/L, the ratio of sewage sludge, H2O2 and acetic acid was 1:2:50, the reaction time 4 hours in room temperature, and the removal rates of copper and zinc were over 95%. Using improved ferrite way and lime milk as neutralization, Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni, Cd, Pb could be removed from municipal sludge filtrate caused by acetic acid- H2O2, the removal rates of Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni, Cd, Pb were 94%, 98%, 86%, 92%, 89%, 99% and the filtrate could be dicharged legally. The best technique condition was that the initial concentration of FeCl3 /FeSO4 was 0.10/0.05mol/L, the added Fe 2+ :Fe 3+ (mol value)=1:2, Fe 3+ /M n+ (Cu 2+ ,Zn 2+ ) =10, the pH value was 9, reaction temperature was room temperature.
