2. Curating, Community, Collaboration: The Incidental Outcomes of One Library Collection Development Lesson
- Author

- Abstract
What began in a library science course as a collection development project serendipitously transformed into varied learning experiences for students across disciplines and program levels. This article shares the journey of how a singular lesson idea blossomed into an unintentional, multidisciplinary project that led to unexpected learning outcomes for all involved. [The page range cited on the .pdf (p97-107) is incorrect. The correct page range is p95-107.]

3. Making Sense of the Message: The Perceptions and Impact of State Legislation That Challenges the Teaching of Hard History

- Abstract
In December 2021, Texas lawmakers passed a bill related to the national debate and politicization of critical race theory (CRT). Texas Senate Bill 3 seemingly limits the teaching of "sensitive" topics. These perceived limitations may present challenges for social studies teachers in the state. This study examines the knowledge and perspectives of social studies educators regarding Texas SB 3 and its impact on Texas 6-12 social studies teachers' classroom pedagogy.

- Abstract
This mixed methods study explored the impact of a collaborative experience on perceptions of school librarian candidates (SLCs) and preservice teacher candidates (PTCs) as they worked to integrate technology into lesson plans effectively. The group under investigation consisted of 83 PTCs in the teacher preparation program who were enrolled in selected sections of a required technology course and graduate students in a School of Library and Information Science preparation program at the same institution. Forty of the PTCs were part of the control group and 43 were in the treatment group, which received collaborative support from the SLCs. One important finding is that PTCs perceived SLCs as valuable resources for integrating technologies, particularly for designing lesson plans that integrated technology. Additionally, both PTCs and SLCs realized the importance of teacher-librarian collaboration (TLC) in their future campus roles. A key recommendation is for teacher education programs to embed opportunities for TLC experiences for improving PTCs' technology integration and lesson planning.

ComputingMilieux_COMPUTERSANDEDUCATION - Abstract
This paper presents a framework for educators to prepare preservice school librarians to become transformational leaders and instructional partners. With leadership as its central focus, this conceptual framework includes the constructs of Tools, Training, Teams, Time, Targets, and Trust. These constructs are described in relation to school librarian leadership, principal leadership, and the context within which transformation takes place. The Six Ts model can be used in all school librarian preparation programs as a framework for implementing standards and guidelines and providing preservice school librarians with the tools and strategies needed to overcome barriers to leadership and collaboration once in practice.

Cytokine responses accompanying sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) responder phenotypes have not previously been reported. To investigate clinical and cytokine responses of house dust mite (HDM) sensitive patients with allergic rhinitis receiving HDM SLIT or placebo for 2 years.Sixty adults were randomized to receive SLIT or placebo. Clinical symptoms were measured using the Total 5 Symptom Score (TSS5) and Juniper Rhinitis Quality of Life Questionnaire. HDM specific IgE, IgG, skin prick tests, and HDM-stimulated release of interleukin (IL) 5 and interferon γ (IFN-γ) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was studied at 0, 6, 12, and 24 months and IL-13, IL-4, and IL-10 at 0 and 24 months.A total of 32 of 39 SLIT and 16 of 21 placebo patients completed the study. There was significant clinical improvement in both the SLIT and placebo groups. Median T5SS decreased from 14.75 to 5.25 in the SLIT group (P.001) and 12.7 to 6.0 in the placebo group (P = .003). The median quality-of-life score also decreased in the SLIT group (P.001) and the placebo group (P.001). A subgroup analysis of patients found a 60% or greater improvement (on the T5SS and the Juniper Rhinitis Quality of Life Questionnaire) in the good responders group and a 30% to 59% improvement or no improvement in the intermediate responders group. This subgroup analysis also found more good responders in the SLIT group (47%) compared with the placebo group (25%; P = .07). Significant decreases in the IL-5/IFN-γ (P.001), IL-13/IFN-γ (P.001), and IL-4/IFN-γ (P = .03) ratios were found in the combined good clinical improvement group at 24 months.A good clinical response (≥60% improvement in both TSS5 and quality of life) is associated with significant decreases in IL-5, IL-13, and IL-4 relative to IFN-γ during 2 years of SLIT therapy for HDMs.

Adult asthmatics, ranging from 19 to 52 years from an asthma and allergy clinic in a university setting volunteered to participate in the study. The 17 students were randomly divided into yoga (9 subjects) and nonyoga control (8 subjects) groups. The yoga group was taught a set of breathing and relaxation techniques including breath slowing exercises (pranayama), physical postures (yogasanas), and meditation. Yoga techniques were taught at the university health center, three times a week for 16 weeks. All the subjects in both groups maintained daily symptom and medication diaries, collected A.M. and P.M. peak flow readings, and completed weekly questionnaires. Spirometry was performed on each subject every week. Analysis of the data showed that the subjects in the yoga group reported a significant degree of relaxation, positive attitude, and better yoga exercise tolerance. There was also a tendency toward lesser usage of beta adrenergic inhalers. The pulmonary functions did not vary significantly between yoga and control groups. Yoga techniques seem beneficial as an adjunct to the medical management of asthma.

In a number of different areas of work at the Hampstead Clinic research groups have been concerned with the progressive refinement of psychoanalytic concepts in their application to clinical material. In particular, the procedure of systematic indexing of psychoanalytic case material (Sandler, 1962) and the routine application of Anna Freud's Diagnostic Profile (Anna Freud, 1963), have thrown up problems relating to the conceptual tools at our disposal for the evaluation of what can, broadly speaking, be called “disorders of narcissism”.
