The study outlined here was an attempt to investigate the effectiveness of using the Phono-Graphix reading programme with a group of four struggling readers/non-readers. The children selected were in Primary 2 and had already had one-and-a-half years of mixed reading instruction strategies--primarily Jolly Phonics with a 'look and say" approach. The children were taught in twice weekly "pull out" sessions in addition to learning with their peers in their normal, daily classroom lessons. Results showed that they had improved in all literacy sub-skills being assessed. Two of them also improved on standardised assessments. All children were observed to be reading (and spelling) more accurately than at the beginning of the project. The purpose of this study was to evaluate participants' feedback related to their experience in the Interprofessional Education Exchange (iPEX) program, a training initiative for faculty development in interprofessional oncology palliative care education. Participants voluntarily submitted a written reflection using a guide. The research team used qualitative content template analysis techniques to determine codes and categories based on the reflections and selected representative quotations (meaning units) from the data. Fifty-three reflections (100%) submitted by those completing the training were included in the analysis. The most appreciated aspects of the training were the opportunity for exchange of ideas and programs and the time allowed during the workshop for each team to work on developing their unique plan for interprofessional education (IPE) in oncology palliative care at their home institution. The iPEX program proved to be feasible, well-accepted, and valued by participants who reported personal, professional, and team growth and expressed appreciation for program support, content, and the exchange of ideas in a face-to-face setting. The results demonstrate that a faculty development program built on recommendations in the literature contributed to successful efforts to plan and initiate IPE in oncology palliative care. Managers, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, unqualified staff and service users were interviewed for a qualitative study of risk management and rehabilitation in an inner city medium secure forensic mental health care unit. Different professional orientations to service user problems were identified. Doctors focused primarily on the diagnosis of mental disorder, which they managed mainly through pharmaceutical interventions. Psychologists were principally concerned with personal factors, for example service user insight into their biographical history. Occupational therapists concentrated mainly on daily living skills, and social workers on post-discharge living arrangements. Some front line nurses, held accountable for security lapses, adopted a criminogenic approach. Service users were more likely than professionals to understand their needs in terms of their wider life circumstances. These differences are explored qualitatively in relation to four models of crossdisciplinary relationships: monoprofessional self-organisation combined with restricted communication; hermeneutic reaching out to other perspectives; the establishment of interdisciplinary sub-systems; and transdisciplinary merger. Relationships between professions working in this unit, as portrayed in qualitative interviews, corresponded mainly to the first model of monoprofessional self-organisation. Reasons for restricted crossdisciplinary understanding, particularly the wide power/status differences between the medical and other professions, and between staff and patients, are discussed. Based on qualitative data collected from women who were activists in the 1984-85 miner's strike in Northumberland and County Durham, this paper challenges romanticised and over-simplistic accounts of women's participation in the 1984-5 miner's strike. Interview data from two periods--1985-7 and 2002-4--is used in order to illustrate the ambivalence and contradictions of women's experience in relation to four themes: personal strength and vulnerability; solidarity, support and betrayal; solidarity amongst women, and the dilemmas of sisterhood; and solidarity with men, and power struggles. Abstract Background In childhood, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by age-inappropriate levels of inattentiveness/disorganization, hyperactivity/impulsiveness, or a combination thereof. Although the criteria for ADHD are well defined, the long-term consequences in adults and children need to be more comprehensively understood and quantified. We conducted a systematic review evaluating the long-term outcomes (defined as 2 years or more) of ADHD with the goal of identifying long-term outcomes and the impact that any treatment (pharmacological, non-pharmacological, or multimodal) has on ADHD long-term outcomes. Methods Studies were identified using predefined search criteria and 12 databases. Studies included were peer-reviewed, primary studies of ADHD long-term outcomes published between January 1980 to December 2010. Inclusion was agreed on by two independent researchers on review of abstracts or full text. Published statistical comparison of outcome results were summarized as poorer than, similar to, or improved versus comparators, and quantified as percentage comparisons of these categories. Results Outcomes from 351 studies were grouped into 9 major categories: academic, antisocial behavior, driving, non-medicinal drug use/addictive behavior, obesity, occupation, services use, self-esteem, and social function outcomes. The following broad trends emerged: (1) without treatment, people with ADHD had poorer long-term outcomes in all categories compared with people without ADHD, and (2) treatment for ADHD improved long-term outcomes compared with untreated ADHD, although not usually to normal levels. Only English-language papers were searched and databases may have omitted relevant studies. Conclusions This systematic review provides a synthesis of studies of ADHD long-term outcomes. Current treatments may reduce the negative impact that untreated ADHD has on life functioning, but does not usually 'normalize' the recipients.

We use the IHS Markit Securities Finance dataset and beneficial owner consulting team to map the evolution of industry practices. Securities lending plays a critical role in global capital markets: the practice is broad, encompassing borrowing securities to cover a failed trade, borrowing to sell short, liquidity and financing. With the number of investors participating in securities lending continuing to increase, there is a need to have guiding principles in place with regard to lending programme controls and the evaluation of performance and risk. Part of the challenge from a beneficial owner's perspective is being able to access quantitative and qualitative data to properly compare themselves to similar entities in order to make changes to existing parameters and perform a thorough review of their programmes. Having more transparency and a better understanding of the data allows beneficial owners to identify opportunities that may increase the profitability of their programmes, while allowing for changes to programme parameters within their risk/reward appetite. The increased focus on ESG (environment, social and governance) for many beneficial owners has resulted in new evaluations of securities lending programmes as they relate to ESG policies for respective investments. As internal priorities evolve for beneficial owners, regulation has also become an important factor of consideration for securities lending participants. It has affected the complete chain from execution of initial trades to monitoring and reporting.
