This article provides an overview of a service development project to develop a web-based application (app) to support non-mental health nurses when assessing the mental health needs and risks of children and young people. The article describes the development, testing and evaluation process, which involved consultation with children and young people as well as interviews, focus groups and an online survey with a range of professionals working with children and young people. The number of urgent '2-week-wait' referrals to hospital for people with suspected head and neck cancer being sent by primary care is constantly growing and it is becoming increasingly difficult for head and neck cancer services to meet this demand. In order for trusts to meet their Faster Diagnosis Standards, there needs to be an effective and efficient way to ensure there is capacity for patients to receive the appropriate assessments and diagnostic investigations without compromising the quality of care delivered. This article presents the proposal of introducing a nurse-led 2-week-wait clinic to meet the ever-growing demands on the service. There is discussion of the consultant-led training programme used to upskill an advanced nurse practitioner in a single-centre study, as well as explanation of the processes followed to maintain patient safety throughout the pilot project. This article explores the important role of Parkinson's Nurse Specialists (PNS) in the management of Parkinson's disease (PD). PD is a degenerative brain disease that affects both motor and non-motor symptoms, impacting a person's quality of life and increasing care requirements. The PNS role has evolved in the UK, providing clinical, educational, research, and consultation support to patients. While there is limited evidence on the efficacy of the PNS role, studies have shown positive outcomes in terms of patient well-being and quality of life. However, there is a global shortage of PNS, particularly in low and middle-income countries, due to factors such as nurse shortages and inadequate funding. This study explores experiences of people with dementia and family carers who participated in an Arts on Prescription at Home (AoP@Home) program, artists who delivered the AoP@Home program and the managers who coordinated the AoP@Home programs.Semi structured interviews were conducted with the three stakeholder groups to explore experiences around implementation of AoP@Home. Interview questions were specific to each stakeholder group, and designed to capture the varied experiences around coordinating, delivering and participating in AoP@Home programs when delivered as a standard service offering. Qualitative content analysis was applied to evaluate the transcripts.A total of 13 stakeholders participated in interviews: four people living with dementia and four family carers, three artists and two AoP program managers. Three overarching themes emerged across the stakeholder groups: ‘what worked well’, ‘challenges’ and ‘moving forward’.AoP@Home has potential as an important offering for community‐dwelling people with dementia who may no longer be able to access group‐based community programs. As AoP@Home is expanded, ongoing implementation monitoring and quality improvement will be essential to ensure maximal applicability of the program across the community aged care sector.The implementation of a new AoP@home service has been examined, and finds consumer satisfaction (person with dementia and their carer), and support from staff (artists and program managers). This paper raises and addresses issues to do with leadership and child psychotherapy, beginning with a report on a systematic review of papers about leadership in the Journal of Child Psychotherapy (JCP). The authors establish that leadership is expressed implicitly rather than as an important issue in its own right with relevance to clinical work, service development and the ongoing viability of psychoanalytic child psychotherapy. When reviewing the limited literature available, the authors classify them into five types of article: tribute to leaders past; clinical leadership; threat to survival and call to action; organisational leadership; and exemplary papers describing professional leadership. The authors query why the leadership literature is sparse and inexplicit and respond by using the theme of 'dual citizenship' to explore the issue from a psychoanalytic and organisational perspective. The psychoanalytic perspective explores tensions and barriers that may be profession-specific in relation to leadership. The organisational perspective explores the wider literature on leadership, starting with the concept of 'wicked problems and clumsy solutions'. The authors introduce and describe a 'leadership stance' that is compatible with psychoanalytic practice in context. This requires opening up leadership activity to the same scrutiny and reflective practice as clinical work, which provides ways of containing organisational and career anxieties and perplexing clinical problems. Introduction: This paper describes the process of implementing a family focused model, The Family Model, in child and adolescent and adult mental health services in Sweden. Additionally, it describes a service development project carried out in both services within a defined geographical area of Region Stockholm. The Family Model is a communication tool designed to assist clinicians in both services to have family focused conversations with their patients and relatives. Internationally, the needs of individuals experiencing mental health challenges (parents, children and young people) and their close relatives are now well recognized, but barriers to family focused practice nevertheless persist. The aim of this study was to better understand clinicians' experiences in implementing The Family Model in both services. Methods: Three preplanned focus group interviews were carried out with 14 clinicians and managers across both services and the data were analyzed in accordance with methods of Naturalistic inquiry. Result: Findings suggest that The Family Model has utility in both services. The Naturalistic inquiry analyses revealed three main themes: individual, relational and organizational aspects with a total of 10 sub-themes of how the models influence the participants. Furthermore, analyses on a meta understanding level explored that participants underwent a developmental journey in learning about and using The Family Model in practice which was expressed through three themes: "Useful for burdened families", "Influencing prevention", and "To integrate this would be fantastic". Conclusions: The Family Model, when adapted for the Swedish context, is a useful tool for assisting experienced clinicians to engage in family focused practice in both child and adolescent and adult mental health services. The Family Model highlights different aspects in everyday clinical services that were of special interest for clinicians, families, and the system. This study empirically examines the correlation between service system innovation and competitiveness in Nigeria, an emerging market, by focusing on the country’s mobile telecommunications sector. The moderating effect of managerial competencies was also tested. Due to the contribution of the telecommunications sector to the economic well-being of Nigeria and the world’s economy at large, the sector witnesses a high level of competition among its players, resulting in unsustainable price wars, negatively impacting the telecommunication firms and their ability to invest in service improvements. Thus, there is a need for a study into the factors affecting competitiveness in the telecommunications sector. A cross sectional survey was used because the study explored the relationships between service system innovation, managerial competencies and competitiveness. The study used a survey instrument, which was sent to 450 respondents using Google Forms, out of which 230 responded. The 230 returned copies represented a 51.1 percent return rate, which satisfied the minimum required return rate for a cross sectional study. The study’s hypotheses were tested using the partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM). The finding revealed that service system innovation (idea development, service development and commercialization) enhances the competitiveness of mobile telecommunication firms. Thus, an increase in idea development, service development and commercialization is essential for a competitive advantage. Also, managerial competencies were found to significantly moderate the relationship between service system innovation and competitiveness. The study provides a new insight into how service system innovation affects the competitiveness of telecommunications companies, particularly in emerging markets, with Nigeria as the focal point. It also shows the role managerial competencies play in the telecommunications sector. This study offers proof of the traits of service system innovation, managerial competencies, and competitiveness in the telecommunications sector. It also developed and tested a scale for measuring these variables, which future studies could adopt.

Aphasia management can be challenging in multilingual settings. A lack of understanding of the needs and challenges faced by speech-language therapists (SLTs) might lead to insufficient capacity building and policymaking. To optimize aphasia rehabilitation, it is important to determine the current practices, needs, and challenges faced by SLTs in a multilingual context. This study aimed to explore how SLTs in Malaysia approach aphasia assessment and intervention for multilingual people with aphasia (PWA). Further, it aimed to identify the challenges SLTs experience, as well as the resources and strategies drawn upon to support the management of multilingual aphasia. Fifty participants who are SLTs in Malaysia completed an online questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of four sections: Language Use; Aphasia Rehabilitation; Service Provision for Multilingual Clients with Aphasia; and Background Information. Five participants who took part in the survey also participated in the online focus group discussion. For the first study objective, it was found that participants primarily conducted individual aphasia interventions (100%), utilized informal tests of aphasia (~80%), and focused on improving language and social communication skills (~80%). More than half of the participants reported the experience of not sharing their clients' language and resorted to choosing a particular language for aphasia intervention. From the survey and FGD, participants indicated seeking assistance from family members to translate SLTs' questions and instructions during aphasia intervention. In addressing the second objective, language barriers and lack of appropriate resources were identified as two prominent challenges in multilingual aphasia management. For the third objective, participants suggested involving professional interpreters who are trained in assisting aphasia management to reduce language barriers. Developing tools and materials in multiple local languages and best practice guidelines were suggested for addressing the shortage of resources for multilingual aphasia management. Malaysian SLTs used rehabilitation approaches that were consistent with practices in other countries, such as the frequent use of informal approaches for aphasia assessments and the focus on improving language and communication skills of PWA. Challenges in aphasia rehabilitation in Malaysia were posed by several factors, including linguistic diversity and a lack of resources. There is a critical need to develop culturally and linguistically appropriate resources, including standardised assessment tools and best practice guidelines for multilingual aphasia rehabilitation. People with intellectual disability experience some of the greatest health disparities in Australia. Individuals are expected to access mainstream health services that are ill equipped to meet their needs. The Australian government has made recent commitments to improve the healthcare of people with intellectual disability. This article describes the Australian health system and how it responds to the needs of people with intellectual disability. It draws on examples of advances in policy, inclusion, and service development, achieved through concrete and persistent systemic advocacy, to discuss emerging evidence on the delivery of healthcare to people with intellectual disability in Australia. The article also highlights immediate priorities including increasing the uptake of health assessments, building the capacity of our health workforce, and responding to the needs of people with intellectual disability in COVID‐19 outbreaks or other natural disasters. Intellectual disability healthcare is at a dynamic point in Australia with commitment and funding from government to lead to change. Issue addressed: Arts on Prescription at Home (AoP@Home) involves a professional artist visiting a person with dementia and their informal carer(s) in their own home to engage them in participatory art making. While there is evidence for the use of these programs, more work is needed to facilitate effective implementation. This study explored contextual barriers and enablers to implementation of AoP@Home within a real‐world community aged care service. Methods: Two remote focus groups were conducted at a community aged care provider in Sydney, Australia. Key stakeholders (n = 14) were recruited, representing: people with dementia, informal (family) carers, AoP artists, service referrers and community service managers. Focus group transcripts were analysed using qualitative content analysis and mapped onto the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). Outcomes were reviewed against the Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) strategy compilation to inform development of a tailored implementation strategy. Results: Four overarching themes described the range of barriers and enablers to AoP@Home implementation: (1) "I don't know enough about it" (awareness and engagement within the sector), (2) artists delivering programs, (3) awareness and engagement of people impacted by dementia, (4) practicalities of implementation. All five domains of the CFIR were represented across the four themes. The ERIC compilation provided a list of practical strategies for implementation of AoP@Home. Conclusions: The implementation of psychosocial interventions for people living with dementia within a community aged care service is complex and multifactorial. This paper discusses the development of a systemic family clinic in a Paediatric Health Psychology setting. Appreciative Inquiry (AI) was used in the development of the clinic and to consider future plans. Reviewing the development of the clinic a year on from the AI session we identified the benefits of embedding systemic family work and training strategy within the department. This was enabled by a willingness to lean into uncertainty, clear boundaries, structure and protected time. AI also helped us to look towards growth in the future. Introduction: Psychological services are typically offered via specialized mental health services, which are often overwhelmed with long waitlists. To address this need and provide patients with a service characterized by shorter waiting times and increased accessibility, online Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was established in the North Norfolk 4 Primary Care Network. Methods: This article presents this service's collaborative funding, development and outcomes within local GP surgeries. It constitutes a mixed-method service evaluation encompassing the future of EMDR in primary care services. Additionally, it includes the assessment of anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms as well as work and social adjustment in a cohort of 83 patients alongside a Thematic Analysis involving eighteen patients and six GPs. Results: The evaluation showed high completion and attendance among service users. Quantitative scores combined with qualitative feedback from patients and practitioners highlight the potential impact of EMDR therapy on General Practice and its broader provision of trauma-focused therapies. The most significant improvements were observed in anxiety and depression scores. Thematic Analysis indicated that the patients found the service helpful, labeling it as a "life-saver." They also discussed why they found the service effective; some also wished the service had been available earlier. Discussion: Findings underscore the potential of EMDR and online EMDR as an accessible and effective approach within primary care settings. The assessments showed an elevated level of access and attendance among service users. Therefore, it is recommended that timely EMDR services be extended through primary care networks. This is the third and final article in the Long Covid (LC) series, which presents and discusses the ongoing development of the Leeds Long Covid Community Rehabilitation Service (LLCCRS), highlighting the digital interventions used to assist with symptom management and barriers to overcome to achieve this, the importance of involving people with LC (PwLC) within service development as well as two of the most recent service evaluations of new digital interventions -- virtual group assessments (VGA), and Covid-19 Yorkshire Rehabilitation Scale (C19 YRS) mobile application (app). Aims: The provision of Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) is a well‐established support for patients, however, significant inconsistencies in funding result in financial burden for some healthcare services across Australia. Recent government‐initiated funding changes prompted the development of a new HEN service for eligible patients with a disability, moving from a universal to more individualised approach to care. Methods: This retrospective observational study included patients enrolled on a newly established disability‐specific HEN service at a paediatric tertiary hospital between July 2020 and February 2022 inclusive. Components of service development were explored including service model, clinical resources, information related to patient enrolments and costings for annual HEN requirements provided by dietitians. Retrospective quantitative data was collected from the Electronic Medical Record system and analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 362 patient enrolments occurred over a 21‐month period, with an average of 17 new patients having accessed the service each month. Annual HEN supports were quoted at a median cost of $13487.94 AUD (2364.97–44170.92), mostly attributable to consumable requirements. Most eligible participants chose to receive care through the new HEN service. Supports were quoted >330% higher than previous fixed price allocations, highlighting the true cost associated with HEN care. Large variation in costings may be attributed to the diversity and complexity of patients. Conclusion: Funding changes presented a unique opportunity to meet pre‐existing resource deficits and enabled individualised access to HEN supports for paediatric patients with a disability. This service evaluation examined the feasibility and service user reported experience of a brief psychological intervention for adults with Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder (NEAD). 15 participants attended an individual six-session Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT)-informed intervention comprising of psychoeducation and grounding techniques. Participant experience of the intervention was assessed using outcome measures and an online focus group which indicated their satisfaction. Participants fed back that longer therapy intervention; education of other health professionals (having reported previous negative experiences); and group/family support sessions would enhance future care. Hickey et al.'s scoping of infant mental health (IMH) services and the challenges faced in ensuring that vulnerable infants can access them highlights important issues and suggests some solutions (Hickey et al., Child and Adolescent Mental Health, 2023). Their synthesis of useful research in the field is limited only by its focus on more affluent English‐speaking countries, which is acknowledged. Writing from an Australian perspective, they highlight the need for culturally sensitive service delivery. This commentary draws attention to the concept of candidacy as a helpful way of thinking about patents' journeys into services. It can support a deeper understanding of the barriers to referral for infants most in need. One key issue is the knowledge and understanding of both professionals and the public about the importance of the early years for later well‐being. Infants cannot advocate for themselves and depend on those around them to exercise their right to services. Abstract Background Children and young people’s (CYP) mental health is a major public health concern internationally and the recent Covid-19 pandemic has amplified these concerns. However, only a minority of CYP receive support from mental health services due to the attitudinal and structural barriers they and their families encounter. For over 20 years, report after report has consistently highlighted the shortcomings of mental health services for CYP in the United Kingdom and attempts to improve services have been largely unsuccessful. The findings reported in this paper are from a multi-stage study that aimed to develop a model of effective, high-quality service design for CYP experiencing common mental health problems. The aim of the stage reported here was to identify CYP’s, parents’ and service providers’ perceptions of the effectiveness, acceptability and accessibility of services. Methods Case studies were conducted of nine different services for CYP with common mental health problems in England and Wales. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 41 young people, 26 parents and 41 practitioners and were analysed using the Framework approach. Patient and Public Involvement was integrated throughout the study with a group of young co-researchers participating in data collection and analysis. Results Four key themes defined participants’ perceptions of service effectiveness, acceptability and accessibility. Firstly, open access to support with participants highlighting the importance of self-referral, support at the point of need and service availability to CYP/parents. Secondly, the development of therapeutic relationships to promote service engagement which was based on assessment of practitioner’s personal qualities, interpersonal skills and mental health expertise and underpinned by relational continuity. Thirdly, personalisation was viewed as promoting service appropriateness and effectiveness by ensuring support was tailored to the individual. Fourthly, the development of self-care skills and mental health literacy helped CYP/parents manage and improve their/their child’s mental health problems. Conclusions This study contributes to knowledge by identifying four components that are perceived to be central to providing effective, acceptable and accessible mental health services for CYP with common mental health problems irrespective of service model or provider. These components could be used as the foundations for designing and improving services.

AbstractThe study empirically examined the effect of service system innovation on firm competitiveness in Nigeria, an emerging market, focusing on the country’s telecommunication sector. Additionally, the moderating effect of the corporate governance system on service system innovation—firm competitiveness nexus was observed. Data were collected using a survey instrument from 230 respondents. The study followed a cross-sectional research design while the study hypotheses were tested using the partial least square—structural equation model (PLS-SEM). Analyses revealed that service system innovation as represented by idea development, service development, and commercialization enhance firm competitiveness. Implying that idea development, service development, and commercialization are essential for higher levels of firm competitiveness. In addition, corporate governance system was found to boost the relationship between service system innovation and firm competitiveness. The study offers new understanding into the role of service system innovation in competitiveness of the telecommunication firms especially in developing economies such as Nigeria. The study also shows that the corporate governance system contributes significantly to the success of telecommunication firms. Further, the study provides evidence on the characteristics of service system innovation, corporate governance system, and firm competitiveness within the telecommunication industry. In addition, the study developed and validated an instrument for measuring service system innovation, firm competitiveness, and corporate governance system within a developing economy which may be adopted by future studies when examining these variables. Furthermore, the study confirms the usefulness of dynamic capabilities theory in understanding service system innovation, firm competitiveness, and corporate governance.

Practitioners have a clinical, ethical, academic, and economic responsibility to dispassionately consider how effective their services are. Approaches to measure how "good" or "bad" healthcare is include clinical audit, satisfaction surveys, and routine outcome measurement. However, the process of comparing the clinical outcomes of a specific service against the 'best' services in the same specialism, also known as benchmarking, remains challenging, and it is unclear how it affects quality improvement. This paper piloted and compared two different approaches to benchmarking to assess clinical outcomes in neurorehabilitation. Norming involved comparing routine measures of clinical outcome with external validators. Stacking involved pooling and comparing internal data across several years. The analyses of routine clinical outcome data from 167 patients revealed significant differences in the patient characteristics of those admitted to the same service provider over time, but no differences in outcomes achieved when comparing with historical data or with external reference data. These findings illustrate the potential advantages and limitations of using stacking and norming to benchmark clinical outcomes, and how the results from each approach might be used to evaluate service effectiveness and inform quality improvement within the field of brain injury rehabilitation. Background and method: A cohort study using secondary data assessed associations between baseline characteristics and psychological sessions attended in young persons discharged from a Children and Young People's Mental Health Service in 2019. Results: There were 584 persons who attended a median of seven sessions. On multivariable regression analysis, males attended fewer sessions than females, young people from more affluent communities attended more sessions than those from poorer communities and those presenting with eating disorders and self‐harm in particular attended more sessions than those with anxiety. Young people with conduct problems (CPs) have been detrimentally impacted by Covid-19 restrictions, with increased behaviour problems and internalising symptoms. Parents experienced increased strain, managing their child's behaviours through lockdowns, while support services have been reduced. The present qualitative study aims to explore the deeper parental experience of caring for an adolescent child with CPs during the Covid-19 period. Participants were purposively recruited through a social media support forum. Semi-structured online interviews were conducted with 14 parents of children with CPs (13 mothers and one father) between June-December 2021. Interviews were analysed through reflexive thematic analysis. Analysis revealed four main themes; Experiencing Positive Changes in Children, Navigating Practicalities of Home Confinement, Parents at "Breaking Point", and Methods of Survival. Parents observed increased behavioural problems in their children, and expressed great strain and fatigue in relation to their child's expression. Overall, parents felt isolated, confused, and burnt out, feeling they have no support to turn to. These issues appear to expand beyond the pandemic, highlighting an imperative need to provide more social, practical, and psychoeducational support for these parents whose voices are currently going unheard. These should be more robust and tailored to this unique population, with suggested services including peer social networks or parental hubs, more proficient and targeted psychoeducation, crisis interventions, and a greater capacity for parental respite. Highlights: Adolescents with conduct problems showed a considerable increase of aggressive and defiant behaviour during lockdown. Parents experienced emotional dysregulation, mental health deterioration, and parenting related burnout. Deterioration in parental wellbeing was attributed to a lack of professional and peer support during lockdown. This research study examines service productisation through the standardisation and modularisation of service. This concept is studied and applied to a professional service company which is running a productisation project for improving its services. This productisation project continues further through defining, describing, and developing a service platform and standardisation of its overall services. The main objective of this study was to promote sales through the identification and definition of products and their accompanying services. Moreover, the study explores and applies service development models, namely the model of integrating markets, modular service platform, identification of modules using design structure matrix (DSM), and model for service automation. Furthermore, the study also aims to find solutions for the standardisation and modularisation of services through these models and investigates the associated benefits and issues related to overall services.

The introduction of the text and data mining (TDM) exception in 2014 led to researchers asking for support from staff within Library Services at the University of Birmingham. An initial involvement with a funded corpus linguistics project fostered an effective partnership between the Copyright and Licensing Team and the University’s Research Infrastructure Team. This case study traces the TDM journey that Library Services has subsequently undertaken. The article will look at how staff in Copyright and Licensing and the Research Skills Team identified the original service gap. It will also look at issues impacting on supporting TDM and the results of a TDM survey that was sent to researchers. It concludes with a reflection on how the service might evolve in the future – from the creation and availability of TDM datasets, to the skills development of both librarians and the university communities they support, and the impact artificial intelligence (AI) developments might have on TDM practices.

Shifts in the media landscape and user behavior mean that changes are made rapidly today. Taking a proactive stance on changes, new solutions and service design is therefore central to libraries of the 21st century. The development pushes the need for sharing knowledge about change management in libraries. This article details the experiences of the library system of Copenhagen, Denmark as a case study for change and change management. How did the libraries effect change? What was the process for determining the necessary changes and implementing them? The rising prevalence of dementia in the UK presents a public health and economic challenge. People over the age of 60 are the fastest growing age group in prison and the number of people in prison who experience dementia is rising. There is a lack of research focused on improving management and support for people in prison who may experience dementia, but growing awareness of the need for staff training in prisons to identify and support people showing symptoms of dementia. This paper reports the development of a theory and evidence-based training package for prison staff and peer carers to identify and support people in prison with mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Training content and format was informed by the literature on dementia training in prisons and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from semi-structured interviews with prison staff and a survey administered to prison governors and healthcare managers, both of which explored current provision of dementia training and training needs. A stakeholder working group reviewed and revised the training during two interactive meetings. Future research to evaluate the effectiveness of the training in practice is required. In the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic spread around the globe. The viral outbreak was followed by rapid changes in people's everyday and working lives. Because of the wide-scale societal restrictions that took place to prevent the pandemic, social work was forced to take a digital leap. In this article, we examine Finnish social workers' experiences of extending the use of digitally mediated social work (DMSW) in working with clients during the first wave of the pandemic, the spring of 2020. The data consist of 33 social workers' personal diaries, which are analysed using a qualitative theory-based content analysis. Henri Lefebvre's theory of spatial triad will be utilised in theorising how social workers represent DMSW through three dimensions of space, that is, how they perceive, conceive and live digital spaces when encountering their clients and how physical, mental and social spaces are embodied in the representations. The results suggest that the three dimensions of space 1) basis of, 2) conceived and 3) lived DMSW intertwine closely together. The results reveal how the physical space, including IT infrastructure, its functionality and applicability, along with the organisational contexts, form a bedrock for the social workers' DMSW practice and had a decisive impact on their experiences. Second, the conceived space consists of workers' cognitive and emotional elements, such as competencies, preconceptions and attitudes towards ICT. Finally, the third dimension of spatiality concludes with the social and relational aspects of the user experiences and encounters between clients and social workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents finding from an evaluation of a pilot head and neck cancer service redesign in Thomas Valley Cancer Alliance to enable patients from Swindon and Wiltshire, England to receive follow up and rehabilitation closer to home.

Background: Children and young people's (CYP) mental health is a major public health concern internationally and the recent Covid-19 pandemic has amplified these concerns. However, only a minority of CYP receive support from mental health services due to the attitudinal and structural barriers they and their families encounter. For over 20 years, report after report has consistently highlighted the shortcomings of mental health services for CYP in the United Kingdom and attempts to improve services have been largely unsuccessful. The findings reported in this paper are from a multi-stage study that aimed to develop a model of effective, high-quality service design for CYP experiencing common mental health problems. The aim of the stage reported here was to identify CYP's, parents' and service providers' perceptions of the effectiveness, acceptability and accessibility of services. Methods: Case studies were conducted of nine different services for CYP with common mental health problems in England and Wales. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 41 young people, 26 parents and 41 practitioners and were analysed using the Framework approach. Patient and Public Involvement was integrated throughout the study with a group of young co-researchers participating in data collection and analysis. Results: Four key themes defined participants' perceptions of service effectiveness, acceptability and accessibility. Firstly, open access to support with participants highlighting the importance of self-referral, support at the point of need and service availability to CYP/parents. Secondly, the development of therapeutic relationships to promote service engagement which was based on assessment of practitioner's personal qualities, interpersonal skills and mental health expertise and underpinned by relational continuity. Thirdly, personalisation was viewed as promoting service appropriateness and effectiveness by ensuring support was tailored to the individual. Fourthly, the development of self-care skills and mental health literacy helped CYP/parents manage and improve their/their child's mental health problems. Conclusions: This study contributes to knowledge by identifying four components that are perceived to be central to providing effective, acceptable and accessible mental health services for CYP with common mental health problems irrespective of service model or provider. This article, the second in a three-part series on Long Covid (LC), focuses on how one community-based NHS LC clinic developed and now delivers a 10-week group-based virtual rehabilitation programme (VRP), which aims to provide persons with Long Covid (PwLC) concepts on current thinking in LC, alongside self-management education and support. It highlights the role of embedded clinical research fellows (CRF), and their role in an in-depth service evaluation of the VRP, using established research methods and being peer reviewed/supervised by a research team to support best practice in an evidence poor field. Abstract Introduction Empowerment of families raising children with developmental disabilities (DDs) is essential to achieving rights‐based service development. Methods In this qualitative study, we investigated stakeholder perceptions on the role of advocacy and empowerment in developing caregiver interventions for families of children with DDs in a global context. Participants had experience with at least one intervention, namely the Caregiver Skills Training developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Participants were clinicians, caregivers and researchers representing five continents, and representatives of WHO and Autism Speaks. Two focus group discussions and 25 individual interviews were conducted. Data were analysed thematically. Results Three themes were developed: empowerment as independence and as a right; the role and practices of advocacy; and using evidence to drive advocacy. Many professional participants defined empowerment within the realms of their expertise, focusing on caregivers' individual skills and self‐confidence. Caregivers expressed that this expert‐oriented view fails to acknowledge their intuitive knowledge and the need for community‐level empowerment. Participants discussed the challenges of advocacy in light of competing health priorities. The gap between the rights of caregivers and the availability of services, for example, evidence‐based interventions, was highlighted as problematic. Scientific evidence was identified as a key for advocacy. Conclusion Rights‐orientated empowerment of caregivers and advocacy may make vital contributions to service development for children with DDs in contexts worldwide. Patient and Public Contribution Research questions were revised based on views presented during focus group discussions. Participant feedback on preliminary themes informed the development of the interview guides.
