Abstract

This study explores the underexamined concept of servitisation in the service sector, a strategy traditionally rooted in manufacturing. Despite initial recognition of its applicability to the service sector, subsequent research has focused predominantly on manufacturing and product-centric businesses. Addressing this gap, this research employs an action research methodology within a Management Knowledge Transfer Partnership involving Oxford Brookes Business School, a UK-based built environment consultancy firm, and UK Research and Innovation. The project aims to assist the participating firm in transitioning from a traditional consultancy business model to a servitised business model to gain a competitive advantage by generating recurring revenue through long-term service contracts. Researchers will co-create knowledge and understanding, working closely with the team at the firm, and will document and publish the transition journey of the firm as an exploratory case study.
