Once developed, complete cure is rare. Plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) contributes to remodeling of connective tissue and has a central role in the pathogenesis of TED. We aimed to test if the 4G/5G polymorphism of PAI-1 is a predictor of the development of moderate-to-severe TED.Methods: A total of 185 patients with Graves’ disease, 87 of them with TED, 98 without TED, as well as 201 healthy controls, were studied. Genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral blood samples. The 4G/5G polymorphism of the PAI-1 gene was analyzed by allele-specific PCR, and the distribution of genotypes was calculated in each group. Plasma PAI-1 and thyroid hormone levels were measured by ELISA and ECLIA, respectively.Results: The 4G/4G genotype was associated with the development of moderate-to-severe TED (OR = 2.54; 95% CI: 1.26– 5.14; p < 0.01). The 4G/5G polymorphism of PAI-1 was not a predictor of plasma PAI-1 levels.Conclusion: The 4G/4G genotype of PAI-1 is a risk factor for the development of moderate-to-severe TED. A possible link between COPD and depression may be irisin, a myokine, expression of which in the skeletal muscle and brain positively correlates with physical activity. Irisin enhances the synthesis of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophin involved in reward-related processes. Thus, we hypothesized that mood disturbances accompanying COPD are reflected by the changes in the irisin–BDNF axis. Case history, routine laboratory parameters, serum irisin and BDNF levels, pulmonary function, and disease-specific quality of life, measured by St George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), were determined in a cohort of COPD patients (n=74). Simple and then multiple linear regression were used to evaluate the data. En los últimos años, especialmente, la industria de las lentes de contacto viene experimentando una evolución imparable, con grandes innovaciones a nivel de materiales, diseños y frecuencias de reemplazo que se traducen en mayor calidad de visión, confort y seguridad para el usuario. Las lentes de contacto desechables (usar y tirar), suelen ser de primera elección para los deportistas. En esta línea se encuentra la lente de contacto Nike Max Sight, de reciente comercialización en nuestro país, y que sin duda, como ya está sucediendo en los EUA, puede comportar una pequeña revolución en el contexto deportivo

Introduction: A complex, Nature-, and Adventure Therapy - integrated Schema Therapeutic program (N-ABST) and a related efficacy study was launched in 2022 April at the Psychotherapy Department, at Semmelweis University. The participants had the opportunity of having outdoor, experience based group processes – seven full days in a month - in addition to the classic Schema Therapy (ST) sessions. According to the study design, 4-week long traditional thematic ST programs and 4-week long N-ABST programs were taken place alternately. Objectives: Our aim was to compare the efficacy in a randomized, controlled design, short and medium terms. The participants of the programs and thus the target group of the research were adults, diagnosed mainly with Borderline Personality Disorder, inpatients in psychiatry. Methods: This methodological innovation also meant the integration of two therapeutic teams in practice. When establishing the collaboration, we put emphasis on finding common points and understanding how N-AT contributes to schema therapy goals. During our joint work, it became clear that the elemental need for contact with nature enriched the schema therapy approach with a new basic need that was not included in it before. Measurements were taken before the start of the entire program and at the end of the 4-week cycle. Preliminary results are presented based on the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 - Hungarian Short Form (PID-5-HSF), and the Derogatis Symptom Checklist (SCL90). Results: In the N-ABST group (n=23) the PID5 "Dysinhibition" scale (p <.01, Cohen's d =.636), and the "Negative Affectivity" scale (p <.05, Cohen's d =.388) showed significantly lower scores after therapy. In the case of the "Detachment" we have found a tendency to decrease after the therapy. Regarding the comparison of the effectiveness of N-ABST and classical Schema Therapy - with the current state of analysis - there was a significant difference in the PID5 values for "Suspiciousness" and "Manipulativeness". The former characteristic was reduced to a greater extent by the schema therapy, and the latter by the N-ABST therapy. Based on the SCL90, the N-ABST program resulted in a significant symptom reduction measured by the following subscales: somatization, obsessive compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, phobia. Global symptom severity also decreased significantly (p <.05, Cohen's d =.588). Conclusions: According to our results, Nature- Adventure Therapy enhanced Schema Therapy seems to be an innovative and efficient method in the psychotherapy of personality disorders. Besides the effectiveness, there is a great challenge to design programs that are sustainable and therefore serves therapy long term as well. This paper presents the influence of the volume concentration (VC) and temperature on the viscosity and thermal conductivity (TC) of a graphene–Fe3O4/water hybrid nanofluid. The experiments were done for volume concentrations (VCs) of 0.1% to 0.5% at temperatures of 20°C to 60°C. The results show that the thermal conductivity ratio (TCR) increases with the VC and temperature. Moreover, the TCR grew more with the VC percent at higher temperatures. The maximum increase in the TC was 34% at a VC of 0.5% at 60°C. The viscosity got up with the VC and decreased with temperature growth. The maximum increase in the relative viscosity (RV) was 6% at a VC of 0.5% at 60°C. Therefore, the VC affects the viscosity and TC, and a new correlation was suggested according to experimental results with good accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
