Victimization by peers and siblings is associated with poorer mental health outcomes in adolescence. What is less clear is whether mental health outcomes improve if victimization experiences cease (e.g., being victimized in primary school but not secondary school). This study aims to explore how changes in victimization experiences are associated with changes in mental health outcomes in early adolescence. Data are from 13,912 participants in the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS), a nationally representative cohort of individuals born in the UK. Self-reported victimization by peers and siblings, as well as mental health outcomes (depressive symptoms, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and body image), were collected at age 11 and age 14. Victimization at either time point was associated with poorer mental health across the range of outcomes, with effects largest for those who were consistently victimized. Those who reported increasing victimization had greater deterioration in their mental health compared with their peers who were never victimized. Conversely, children whose victimization decreased showed similar mental health development over this period as those who were never victimized. There was a cumulative effect of victimization by peers and siblings, with effect sizes generally larger for experiences with peers. Victimization in adolescence is associated with enduring reductions in mental health. Nonetheless, the promising outcomes associated with reductions in victimization suggest the potential for bullying interventions in schools to limit the deterioration in mental health in victimized groups. - Abstract
This paper aims to explore the perceived teacher's acceptance and its effects on the self-esteem of school children. The teacher's role is very important in the social, emotional, and academic achievement of children. The sample was collected from Hyderabad schools in January 2018. This study was performed on a total sample of 500 students. Sample was justified through A-priori sample size calculator. Respondents range in age range from 10 to 18 years (Mean = 13.49 years, SD = 1.33). Three questionnaires were employed to collect the data. Teacher acceptance-rejection TARQ (Rohner, Rohner, & Khaleque, 2005), Personality Assessment Questionnaire PAQ (Rohner et al., 2005) Urdu version were administered to participants and convenient sampling was used for data collection. Regression analysis survey has been used in the present study. The result of the regression analysis revealed that students who tended to perceive themselves to be accepted by their teacher reported high self-esteem. Hence it is clear that teacher acceptance is the significant predictor of student self-esteem. This finding is useful for teachers' preparation, and professional development as well as for the promotion of teacher acceptance.

- Abstract
The main aim of orthognathic surgery is to provide a good occlusion and masticatory function and to achieve positive changes in facial aesthetics. The aim of this study was to determine the reasons behind patients' acceptance of orthognathic surgery and their expectations from this treatment, to assess whether their expectations were met, the change in their self-confidence and their satisfaction, and finally, to use the results obtained to inform future surgical procedures to increase patient satisfaction. The study was designed as a cross-sectional observational study and included 73 people treated with orthognathic surgery (surgery group) and 42 people with minimal crowding who did not require treatment (control group). The study found that the primary reason for requesting orthognathic surgery was to improve facial appearance and that patients had high expectations in this regard. Using the Social Appearance Anxiety Questionnaire and the Expectation and Satisfaction Questionnaire, 73.97 % of patients in our study said the treatment met their expectations and 90.41 % said they were satisfied with the overall results of the surgery. The study also highlighted the importance of surgeon-patient communication and the satisfaction of the patient's environment with the final result in determining patient satisfaction. In conclusion, since patients' high expectations of orthognathic surgery influence treatment success and patient satisfaction, it is important to know and manage patients' expectations before treatment and to have good patient-surgeon communication to increase patient satisfaction after surgery., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest None., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Masson SAS. This study is objected to identify the influencing factors of adolescents' smartphone dependency and to determine the degree of influence on smartphone dependency through direct and indirect channels acting between factors. The data of the 2th Korean Child-Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS 2018) was analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 and 26.0 AMOS program. Six paths proved to statistically significant. Self-esteem and depression were the influencing factors of adolescents' smartphone dependency. Social withdrawal and the school environment influenced smartphone dependency through self-esteem and depression as mediators. Self-esteem and depression acted as mediating factors. Adolescents' smartphone dependency was influenced not only by personal factors but also by external factors such as the school environment. The results of this study will be presented as evidence for developing programs that can prevent adolescents from smartphone dependency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research suggests that there are now two distinct approaches to Emotional Intelligence (EI): ability and trait. To date, however, the literature indicates that the construct remains poorly defined and not always adequately measured. Focusing on trait EI, the current thesis identifies a number of research questions that centre on what it is that defines EI in relation to existing definitions and other constructs, namely, happiness, self-esteem, mood and personality. Moreover, a programme of empirical study investigates whether a training intervention can enhance levels of EI and thus contribute to the emerging applied field of enquiry. This has been achieved through the employment of a series of studies. The initial study used the Repertory Grid Technique (RGT) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to generate a definition of EI, which directed this thesis towards alignment with the trait approach. The second study aimed to identify correlations and explore possible predictor variables through the application of Pearson’s r and Hierarchical Regression analysis. Moreover, a Mediation and Moderation analysis investigated whether EI has a mediating or moderating role when combined with other predictors. Two further experimental studies examined whether EI could be experimentally enhanced through a programme of relaxation and positive thinking when compared with a control group engaged in a non-demanding reading task. The results of the first study produced a definition of EI that included descriptions of work-related qualities with the second study yielding results of high correlations between EI, happiness and self-esteem, which were also identified as predictor variables. EI was found to act as a mediator and moderator. Analysis of Variance generated results for the first experimental study that showed overall non-significant interactions. To investigate beyond these findings, the second programme showed that the training programme induced positive changes. It was concluded that, overall, the results contribute to a definition beyond existing definitions of EI, demonstrating EI’s strong associations particularly with happiness, self-esteem and, its mediating and moderating role with other predictors. Primarily, the results from the second experimental study demonstrate the potential of EI in the applied field, including education, work and health.

Perfectionism can be constructed as a trans diagnostic concept that co exists and probably contributes to the onset development and maintenance of a number of Axis 1 disorders. There is also a significant relationship between perfectionism and low self- esteem. There is considerable theoretical debate in the literature concerning whether perfectionism is uni or multi-dimensional with most therapies being based upon uni dimensional conceptualisations and thus overlooking interpersonal factors. This is also reflected in the relative absence of qualitative studies that explore perfectionism from a lived experience perspective. Aims: This study aims to explore the experiences of perfectionism and low self-esteem in different life domains. It also aims to evaluate the client’s experiences and efficacy of a proposed treatment protocol that targets perfectionism from a multidimensional perspective. Method: The study is divided into three phases. A Multiple baseline design is used to evaluate the treatment protocol including cognitive and behavioural interventions, compassionate mind training and assertiveness training to target perfectionism and low self-esteem. Two clinical groups experiencing Axis 1 disorders and high perfectionism are divided amongst the different phases of this study, 13 and 8 participants respectively. Mixed methods are administered to analyse the data with greater emphasis on the qualitative ones. Measures administered include the Beck Depression & Anxiety Inventories; the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale; the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale; the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale by Frost and the Perfectionistic Self Presentation Scale. 8 semi-structured interviews are analysed utilising Interpretative Phenomenological Approach (IPA). Results: from the analysis of data it is evident that perfectionism is a multidimensional construct with strong interpersonal features that affect several different life domains. The proposed treatment protocol appears significantly effective in reducing perfectionism and Axis 1 disorder symptomatology. Additionally, there is a significant increase in self- esteem. Interventions that appear most helpful are behavioural experiments, assertiveness training, compassionate mind training, continuum and positive logging.

Abstract Background Understanding motivation to change is a key issue in both the assessment and the treatment of eating disorders. Therefore, sound instruments assessing this construct are of great help to clinicians. Accordingly, the present study analysed the psychometric properties of the Anorexia Nervosa Stages of Change Questionnaire (ANSOCQ), including its relation to coping style and self-esteem. Methods N = 92 adolescents referred to an eating disorders outpatient clinic meeting criteria for anorexia nervosa gave written informed consent to participate in this study and completed the ANSOCQ, the Eating Disorder Inventory, the Eating Attitudes Test, the Body Image Questionnaire, two questionnaires measuring Self-Related Cognitions and the Coping Across Situations Questionnaire. After a treatment period of nine months, clinical anorexia nervosa diagnosis and the body mass index were re-assessed. In addition to exploratory factor analysis, correlational analysis was used to test for the convergent validity of the ANSOCQ and logistic regression analysis was used to test its predictive validity. Results The ANSOCQ had good psychometric properties. Factor analysis yielded two meaningful factors labelled as ‘weight gain and control’ and ‘attitudes and feelings’. Internal consistencies of the two factors amounted to Cronbach’s alpha = .87 and .76, respectively. Significant correlations with other scales measuring eating disorder psychopathology were indicative of meaningful construct validity. Higher motivation to change was related to higher self-esteem and a more active coping style. Higher (positive) ANSOCQ total scores predicted remission of anorexia nervosa after nine months of treatment. A higher score on ‘attitudes and feelings’ was a protective factor against drop-out from intervention. Conclusions The ANSOCQ is a clinically useful instrument for measuring motivation to change in adolescents with AN. Two factorial dimensions explain most of the variation. Self-esteem and coping style are relevant additional constructs for the understanding of the motivation to change in anorexia nervosa. Trial registration NCT02828956 . - Abstract

Possession of interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies may explain why some managers are more successful than when their technical skills are not as superior or in fact may be at a lower level. It can also explain how some managers are able to develop better relationships and communicate more effectively with little effort or motivate others with relative ease. Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to analyze and control your own emotions and behaviors to achieve a more positive interpersonal outcome at home and at work. EQ focuses on stress diffusion that eliminates emotional hijacking, personality profiling, self- esteem analysis and pro-active listening. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SELF-esteem ,COGNITIVE therapy ,SOCIAL anxiety - Abstract
Self-esteem and lack of social phobia are considered amongst the components of mental health. These features are more likely to be created during the early years of life like any other mental aspect. Hence, the present research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral play therapy in selfesteem and social anxiety of student. The statistical population included all the students in Tehran, from whom a sample of 24 was drawn through multi-stage cluster sampling. They were randomly assigned into the experimental and control groups. The data gathering tools included Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale and Connor Social Phobia Inventory. The experimental group underwent the group play therapy while the control group received no treatment. The findings indicated that group play therapy was effective in the increase of self-esteem and decrease of social phobia among the students. Therefore, it is recommended that children's counseling and therapy centers as well as school officials employ the necessary interventions to enhance health, improve self-esteem, and decrease social phobia with regard to the necessary constructs for the improvement of children's and adolescents' mental health. Background The communal/agentic model of narcissism is well accepted in the current research literature (Gebauer, Sedikides, Verplanken & Maio, 2012). This model could be particularly useful in examining the relation between narcissism and hedonistic and eudaimonic subjective well-being (SWB; Deci & Ryan, 2008). Participants and procedure In an effort to examine the relationship between narcissism and SWB, correlational analyses of survey responses obtained from students (n = 138) were conducted. Agentic narcissism was measured using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI; Raskin & Terry, 1988) and communal narcissism by the Communal Narcissism Inventory (CNI; Gebauer et al., 2012). Subjective well-being measures included the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS; Diener, Emmons, Larsen & Griffin, 1985), Positive And Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS; Watson, Clark & Tegellen, 1988), and the Social Well-being Scale (SWBS; Keyes, 1998). Self-esteem was included in the study in order to examine the potential mediating role of self-esteem in the relationship between narcissism and subjective well-being. Results Agentic narcissism was positively related to the affective component of SWB whereas communal narcissism was positively related to the cognitive component of SWB. Both forms of narcissism were positively related to social well-being. All relationships were mediated by the participant’s self-esteem level. Conclusions The results indicate that both agentic narcissism and communal narcissism are positively related to SWB. The results are discussed in the context of the agentic/communal model of narcissism (Gebauer et al., 2012) and hedonistic/eudaimonic well-being (Deci & Ryan, 2008).

This study proved all hypothesis and objectives and results that children of divorced families have more shame and guilt feelings than children of intact families. They feel guilty about the divorce of their parents. We, also, came to an end that children of divorced families have lower rates of self esteem than children of intact families. It was a very large number of children of intact families that had secure attachment compared to children of divorced families where non secure/anxious attachment. A characteristic of divorced children was the presence of avoidant and disorganized attachment among them. It was recommended that parent should not discuss their divorce in the presence of their children, should explain that divorce is for parents and not for children and is not children fault about the divorce.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Low birth weight infants 40 times greater than infants weighing more than 2500 g are at risk. These infants are usually separated from the mother immediately and are transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit. This separation can affect infant’s respiratory, heart rate and body temperature. It also caused severe stress to the mother and reduced mother’s self-esteem. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of kangaroo mother care (KMC) on self-esteem in the mothers of low birth weight infants in Amirkola children hospital, Babol, Iran.METHODS: In a quasi-experimental study 60 mothers of low birth weight infants were selected by convenience sampling method and assigned randomly to two study groups, (experimental n=20 and control n=40). Data collection tools were questionnaire (demographic information of parents and neonates and Rosenberg self-esteem scale). The intervention group take care of in KMC method (mothers in the intervention group put their infants to the vertical position in the middle of her chest in order to skin-to skin contact), while the control group had taken only ordinary care of personnel and mother. The Rosenberg self-esteem scale is completed two times, at the first time, when mothers came to visit the neonates and then at discharge time. FINDINGS: From 60 mothers participated in this study, 29 (48.3%) were high school graduates, 53 (88.3%) were housewife and 39 (65%) had cesarean delivery method. Mean self-esteem score of mothers in the intervention group at admission and discharge were 22.1±2.7 and 23.4±1.9, respectively and in the control group when the infants were admitted and discharged it was 22.2±2.2 and 22.6±1.3, respectively. The significant difference in self-esteem of mothers before and after the intervention was not observed. In association with birth weight infants and maternal self-esteem levels, the Pearson correlation coefficient showed a significant relationship (p=0.01 and r=0.3).CONCLUSION: Results showed that KMC directly correlates with the level of self esteem and causes more peace, merit and ability in mothers.

The topic of the present study is social desirability predicting factors of the 18 - 25 age group. Taking into consideration an obvious lack of scientific research data on a present topic and fact that social desirability has never been researched in Latvia, present study focuses on a social desirability phenomenon. Social desirability can be defined in two different ways, first defines social desirability as a tendency to give socially accepted responses in a context of psychological testing, second one as a personality trait which influence is wider than just the world of psychological testing. Present study states social desirability as personality trait and self-esteem, assertiveness, trait anxiety and sex are supposed to be social desirability predicting factors. The aim of the study: To research social desirability predicting factors of the 18 - 25 age group (assertiveness, self-esteem trait-anxiety, sex). According to the aim of the study, the fallowing research question was asked: Are trait anxiety, self-esteem, assertiveness and sex social desirability predicting factors? In order to answer the question of the research various psychological measurement instruments were used. The results indicate that assertiveness and trait anxiety are social desirability predicting factors, but self-esteem and sex are not social desirability predicting factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. The objective of this study was to determine the level of self-esteem, impulsivity, presence of fear of maturity and feeling of guilt, and the association of these variables with the concern over body shape in patients diagnosed with Eating Disorder (ED). Method. The clinical sample is based on 30 women diagnosed with Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa, from 14 to 24 years old (M= 19,1 SD=0,54) and Spanish nationality. For the evaluation of the study variables it used the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11), the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL) -90-R) and the Eating Disorders Inventory-2 (EDI-2). Results. The group diagnosed with BN obtained an average puntuation more raised in the variable concern for body shape than the AN group. The self- esteem presented a negative statistically significant relationship with concern over body shape in the total of the sample. There is a positive statistically significant relationship between the concern over body shape and impulsivity, guilt and fear of maturity in the total sample. In addition, these variables explained 77% of the variance in the concern over body shape. Conclusion. The findings of this investigation highlight the importance of self-esteem, impulsivity, guilt and fear of maturity in the presence of concern over body shape in women diagnosed with AN and BN, so it is necessary to emphasize their detection for its subsequent approach in intervention programs.

The Internet has become part of the daily life of every individual in the modern age. With the advent of the Internet, many barriers to communication and education have been removed, both for the typical population (TP) and for people with intellectual disabilities (ID). However, the opportunities provided by the Internet are accompanied by a huge risk. Cyber violence, exploitation, victimization, sexual extortion over the Internet are just some of the consequences of problematic use of the Internet. Inadequate use of the Internet can lead to the alienation of a person from reality, the creation of the unreal and distancing from the real identity, problems in communicating with friends and relatives, which will cause a feeling of isolation and loneliness, etc. In general, problematic Internet use affects an individual's quality of life. People with ID, due to their specific bio-psycho-social status, are more susceptible to problematic use of the Internet, and the consequences can be immeasurable. The aim of the research presented in this paper is to determine the pattern of Internet use and problematic Internet use in respondents from a typical population (TP) and respondents with intellectual disabilities (ID), as well as to examine the relationship between problematic Internet use and sociodemographic variables, loneliness and attachment for parents and peers, as well as relationship with self-esteem. The sample includes 59 respondents from TP and 59 respondents with ID, both sexes, primary and secondary school age. The results showed that there are no differences in the frequency of Internet use between TP and students with ID, but there were differences in the way of using the Internet, where TP uses the Internet more often to search for educational information, while ID respondents use the Internet more for entertainment and to play online games. In both groups, problematic Internet use was accompanied by a lower degree of attachment to parents, while this relationship was not established when it comes to attachment to peers. The relation between feelings of loneliness and problematic use of the Internet was found only in a sample of typicaly developed (TD) children. No gender differences were found in terms of problematic Internet use, both in TD children and in students with ID, while age differences were present only amongst TD students, with younger children being more likely to exhibit problematic Internet use.

Currently, language learning is practically a mandatory requirement in this globalized a competitive world and, therefore, the educational system must act accordingly. This study analyzes the educational and social reality of a group of fifth grade students from Prince George’s County, Maryland (United States of America), an area with an academic level well below the average (score: 21%), with such a socio-economic and cultural environment where language learning does not seem to be the priority of the education system. There are theories that confirm that lower socioeconomic status of the middle class or lower middle class can affect the self-esteem of children, and that self-esteem, in turn, can affect the way in which these students learn. Furthermore, authors such as Gathercole and Alloway (2008) concur that working memory is one of the best indicators of academic outcome. It is for this reason that the goal of this research is to analyze the type of existing relationship between self-esteem, working memory and the learning of a second language in this group of 5th graders. This research, based on neuroscience, will be focused on assessing each of those variables separately, identifying participant’s capacities and needs and, subsequently, the relationship between variables will be assess throughout a correlational study to verified their intensity. In this way, results obtained from this research will facilitate the creation of student profiles including their needs and strengths, enabling future educational intervention Actualmente el aprendizaje de idiomas es prácticamente un requerimiento obligatorio en este mundo globalizado y competitivo y, por ello, el sistema educativo debe actuar en consecuencia.

Psychologists suggest that envy is a negative emotion since it can result in negative consequences for the organization. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of envy on intention-to-leave the job via self-esteem and uncivil behaviors. To this End, 110 Ghaem hospital nurses in Mashhad were chosen as the statistical population. A questionnaire made of 26questions was used. Construct validity was investigated by Confirmatory-Factor-Analysis method and Korunbakh-Alpha coefficient certified the reliability. AMOS software based on Structural-Equation-Modelling method was applied to analyze data. The results of the research showed the mediating variables_ self-esteem and uncivil behaviors_ can't predict nurse’s intention-to-leave and also envy doesn't have impact on it. However envy can positively affect uncivil behaviors and self-esteem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Different patterns of gender-based relationships between attitude toward smoking and self-esteem with smoking behavior have reported. However, such associations may be much more complex than a simply supposed linear relationship. We aimed to propose a method of providing hand details on the total and gender-based scenarios of the relationships between attitude toward smoking and self-esteem with smoking. Materials and Methods: A secondary analysis conducted on a data set obtained for a cross-sectional study among 4,905 male and female high school students in Tabriz, Iran (2012). We randomly selected 196 classes in a clustering process and invited all the students in the classes to participate in the study; then, investigated the relationship between smoking with attitude and self-esteem, as explanatory variables. We also found the data to fit a nonlinear functional relationship and to be free from normal condition due to applying Bayesian nonparametric functional latent variable model. Results: Among all the students, attitude was found as the only variable with conceptual effect on smoking (p

Background and Objective: Since the effect of self-respect upon the mental hygiene and physical health of man and his social behavior cannot be ignored, it seems necessary to shed light on the standpoint of religion and science in this issue. The importance of this concern is manifested when we choose coexisting relationship exist between both religion and science. In this research, we demonstrate the concomitant relationship between religion and science concerning self-concept and self-respect and their effect on physical and mental health. The word "self-concept " as a social psychological term ,contains this kind of evaluation along with a series of one’s beliefs and feelings about himself or others about him, and is equal to the word "Mokhtal" in Quranic terms. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, the data were collected from the documents and books and journals in the libraries. Results: Quranic emphasis on creation of an objective-based universe especially in the case of human beings causes to understand this fact that man should not miss his valuable pearl of existence very heedlessly. In the Social psychology, this kind of attitude toward the existence and man can be as a reason for "self-esteem", which is considered as the cornerstone for a normal behavior in society. Conclusion: Among the findings of this research is illumination of a mutual relationship existing between science and religion and providing some new evidence for the influence of this relationship on health of human beings.
