Bu çalışma, Ege Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Menemen Araştırma, Uygulama ve Üretim Çiftliği arazisi topraklarının bulunduğu Menemen Ovası’nda, tarımsal üretim stratejilerinin ve jeomorfolojik özelliklerinin etkisinde değişen alüviyal ana özdeği üzerindeki toprakların verimlilik durumlarını belirlemek amacıyla 2012 yılında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çiftlik arazisindeki ortalama 69,2 da genişliğindeki 30 parselde profil incelemesi yapılarak, ayrımlı tabaka ve horizonlardan toprak örnekleri alınmıştır. İncelenen toprak örneklerinde pH değerleri 7,32-8,90 arasında değişim gösterdiği, ortalama pH değerlerinin 7,97 olduğu ve toprak reaksiyonu (pH) dağılımları dikkate alındığında topraklarının çoğunlukla hafif alkalin karakterde olduğu görülmüştür. Toprakların elektrik iletkenlikleri 586,16-2860,0 µS cm-1 arasında değişirken (ortalama 590,21 µS cm-1), yaklaşık %90’lık bölümünün kum bünyeli olduğu belirlenmiştir. Toprakların toplam karbonat içerikleri %4,46-15,65 arasında değişmekte olup ortalama %8,57 değeri ile kireç bakımından zengin sınıfında yer almaktadır. Toprakların organik maddesi (TOM) içeriği %0,05-2,97 arasında değişim göstermiş ve ortalama organik madde içeriği %1,17 olarak belirlenmiştir. TOM açısından toprakların %60 gibi büyük bir bölümünün organik maddece fakir olduğu saptanmıştır. Toprakların toplam azot değerlerinin %0,012-0,130, alınabilir fosfor miktarının 0,15-8,06 mg kg-1, potasyumun 19,6-494,7 mg kg-1, kalsiyumun 1100,0-6534,0 mg kg-1 ve magnezyumun 56,7-937,4 mg kg-1 aralığında olduğu belirlenmiştir. Toprakların alınabilir sodyum konsantrasyonu 19,2-1746,0 mg kg-1, demir 1,27-34,62 mg kg-1, çinko 0,07-2,04 mg kg-1, mangan 0,50-16,24 mg kg-1 ve bakır 0,07-2,86 mg kg-1 olarak saptanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarının, benzer jeolojik formasyona sahip ova toprakları için bir rehber niteliğinde olacağı düşünülmektedir.

This study analyzes the effect of intellectual capital (IC) efficiency on firm value and financial performance indicators for companies in Islamic countries. Sample consists of 1,681 firms from eleven Islamic countries, covering eight years between 2010 and 2017. We use value-added intellectual capital (VAIC) methodology and run OLS regressions with panel data. Findings reveal that IC positively affects firm profitability and liquidity, and negatively affects leverage. Furthermore, both IC and the components of IC positively affect firm value. Lastly, Shariah-compliance has a positive impact on firm value, profitability and liquidity and a negative impact on leverage. This is the first study to analyze the effect of IC efficiency on firm value and on financial performance aspects for a very broad sample covering 11 Islamic countries at the same time. Last, this is the first study to investigate the effect of Shariah-compliance on value and financial performance attributes of firms in Islamic countries.

This chapter investigates the impact of financial flexibility (FF) on investments, which constitutes the basis for sustainable corporate development. Using a large database of 1,205 firms from three emerging countries in Europe—Poland, Russia and Turkey—for the time period between 2000 and 2016. The authors provide evidence that financial flexibility, achieved through conservative leverage policies, enhances companies' investments and positively contribute to corporate sustainability. Moreover, as the number of years of low leverage kept by firms increase so does the impact of financial flexibility on corporate investment. Besides financial flexibility, internal cash generation capacity of firms, and sales growth also improve the investment capability of firms, improving corporate sustainability. The results support the hypothesis that financial flexibility enhances companies' investment capability, which is an extremely essential tool for firms to have in their businesses.

Bu çalışma; Manisa-Akhisar yöresinde yoğun tarımı yapılan biber bahçelerinin beslenme durumlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bölgede ticari amaçlı yetiştiriciliği yapılan 3 farklı biber çeşidi plantasyonundan 0-30 cm derinlikten alınan toplam 30 adet toprak ve yaprak örneklerinde verimlilik ve besin elementleri analizleri yapılmıştır. Biber yetiştiriciliğinin yapıldığı plantasyonlara ait bahçeler, 2500-3000 m2 büyüklüğünde olup damla sulama yöntemiyle sulanmaktadır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre; genelde toprakların organik madde, toplam azot, alınabilir fosfor, demir ve mangan içerikleri ile bitki yapraklarının toplam azot miktarları yetersiz bulunmuştur. Bu bağlamda yöre üreticilerinin; gübreleme programlarında organik gübreler yanında azot, fosfor, demir ve manganlı gübrelemeyi de dikkate almalarının gerekliliği saptanmıştır., This study was conducted out to determinethe nutritional status of pepper fields in the Manisa-Akhisar district, where intensive pepper agriculture is practiced. A total of 30 leaf samples and soil samples taken from 0-30 cm depth where three different varieties of pepper were being grown commercially, and an analysis was made of fertility and plant nutrients. the fields where the capsicum plantations were located are 2500-3000 m2 in size and are watered with a dripirrigation system. According to the results, organic matter, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, iron and manganese content of the soil and total nitrogen of the leaves was found to be generally inadequate. in this way it was established that growers in the area should pay attention in their fertilization programmes both the organic and nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, and manganese fertilization.

Liver biopsy is considered the gold standard for assessment of fibrosis but this procedure is an invasive procedure. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of non-invasive serum biomarkers, separately and in combinations, on liver fibrosis in treatment-naive chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients. Materials and Methods: Two hundred and sixteen treatment-naive CHC patients were enrolled from 32 locations across Turkey in this open-labelled, non-interventional prospective observational study. FibroTest (R), aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index(A-PRI), aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase ratio (AAR), fibrosis index based on four factors (FIB-4), Age-platelet(AP) index and Forns index were measured and compared with Metavir scores got from liver biopsies. Results: Data from 182 patients with baseline liver biopsy were suitable for analysis. One hundred and twenty patients (65.9%) had F0-F1 fibrosis and 62 patients (34.1%) had F2-F4 fibrosis. APRI 0.732 area under the curve(AUC) indicated advanced fibrosis with 69% sensitivity and 77% specificity. FIB-4 0.732 AUC and FibroTest 0.715 AUC indicated advanced fibrosis with 69% and 78.4% sensitivity, and 75% and 71.4% specificity, respectively. The combined use of tests also led to an increase in AUC and specificity. Combinations of FibroTest with APRI and/or FIB-4, and FIB-4 with APRI were optimal for the evaluation of liver fibrosis. Conclusion: Fibrotest, FIB-4, APRI, AP index and Forns index exhibit good diagnostic performance for determining liver fibrosis in CHC patients, and the use of at least two tests together will increase their diagnostic value still further. Geçmişten bu yana tıbbi bitkiler; ilaç, gıda, kozmetik, içecek sanayiinde yaygınlıkla kullanılmaktadır. Ülkemizde geniş yayılım alanı gösteren bu bitkilerin gün geçtikçe artan önemlerine paralel kültüre alınmaları da artış göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda; dış satımda çok önemli bir yer tutması itibari ile ekonomik değeri yüksek bir tür olan Origanum Onites (İzmir Kekiği) kültüre alınmaya başlanmış bir tür olup üretiminde kalite ve kanditesinin arttırılarak standart bir üretime yaklaştırılması hedeflenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, İzmir kekiği yetiştiriciliğinde önemli bir potansiyel bölge konumunda olan Denizli İli Gözler Beldesinde sertifikalı organik kekik üretimi yapılan yöre bahçelerinin beslenme durumları yaprak ve toprak analizleri ile incelenmiştir. Ek olarak bitkinin kullanım alanını belirleyen önemli kalite parametrelerinden % nem içerikleri ve toplam % uçucu yağ miktarları belirlenerek yaprakların besin elementi kapsamları ile toplam yağ içerikleri (%) ve nem miktarları (%) arasındaki ilişkiler ortaya konmuştur. Toprak azot içeriği ve yaprak N içerikleri arasında p≤0.05düzeyinde pozitif korelasyonlar elde edilirken toprak Mn ve yaprak Fe içerikleri arasındap≤0.05 düzeyinde negatif korelasyonlar saptanmıştır. Yaprakların besin elementi içerikleri ile % toplam yağ içerikleri arasında herhangi bir ilişki bulunamazken yaprak % nem içerikleri ile yaprakların % toplam yağ içerikleri arasında p≤0.01 düzeyinde negatif korelasyonlar belirlenmiştir.

With regulations on corporate governance set forth by the Capital Markets Board, in line with the developments taking place worldwide, an obligation to have independent board members on the board of directors is born. While improving the corporate governance standards of a company, this regulation also positively contributes to the economy of the country as a whole through positively affecting its foreign direct investments. Since independent board members are expected to take influential roles in the key areas of a company such as strategy setting, performance evaluation, risk taking and human related issues; an effective independent board member should possess technical as well as interpersonal skills. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the significance of “independent board members” that has a substantial role in the implementation process of corporate governance rules in Emerging Markets like Turkey., Dünyada gerçekleşen gelişmelere paralel olarak, Sermaye Piyasası Kurulu’nun, kurumsal yönetim ile ilgili yürürlüğe koyduğu yönetmeliklerle birlikte, yönetim kurulunda bağımsız üyelerin bulunması zorunluluğu getirilmiştir. Bu yönetmelik, şirketlerin kurumsal yönetimlerini iyileştirdiği gibi, doğrudan yabancı yatırımları da pozitif bir şekilde etkileyerek ülkelerin bütününün ekonomisine de olumlu bir şekilde katkı sağlamaktadır. Bir şirketin kilit noktaları olan stratejisinin oluşturulması, performans değerlendirilmesi, risk alınması ve personel ile ilgili işlerde bağımsız yönetim kurulu üyelerinin önemli bir rol alması beklendiğinden, etkili bir bağımsız yönetim kurulu üyesinin hep teknik hem de kişiler arası yeteneklerinin olması gerekmektedir. Gediz Havzası'nda yer alan Emiralem beldesi, Türkiye çilek üretimi açısından yüksek tarımsal potansiyele sahip bir beldedir. Verim odaklı üretime yönelik yapılan bilinçsiz gübreleme uygulamaları nedeniyle meydana gelen toprak, su ve hava kirliliği çevre için bir tehdit oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma insan sağlığı ve çevre kirlenmesi hakkındaki olası tehditler ile ilgili mevcut durumu tanımlamayı ve bölgenin üretim potansiyelini artırmak için üretici davranışlarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaçla 150 yapılandırılmış soru içeren bir anket bölgedeki 67 üreticiye uygulanmıştır. Veriler Analitik Hiyerarşi Prosesi (AHP) gibi bazı tanımlayıcı istatistiksel analiz teknikleri ile analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları üreticilerin çilek üretiminde hem miktar hem de kalite arayışında olduklarını göstermiştir. Ayrıca üreticilere çevre konusunda hassas üretim uygulamaları eğitiminin verilmesi gerektiği de vurgulanmıştır. Emiralem located in the Gediz River basin which is having a significant agricultural potential is a county familiar with strawberry production. The fact that production style in the basis of yield associated with careless fertilizer use gave rise to soil, water and air pollution has become a threat to the environment. This study aims at describing the current circumstances on probable jeopardies toward human health and environmental pollution and examines the producer behaviors in order to increase the production potential of the region. For this purpose a survey of 67 producers covering 150 structured questions was carried out in the area. The data was analyzed via some descriptive statistical analysis techniques and particularly Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The analysis depicted that the producers were seeking both quality and quantity during the strawberry production. It is also deduced that the farmers should be trained for sensitive production applications to environment via extension services.

Torbalı, Tire ve Selçuk ilçelerinin oluşturduğu İzmir İli güney hattında yoğun bulunan şeftali bahçelerinin beslenme durumlarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada; yörede yaş ve çeşit olarak benzer 20 bahçeden toprak ve yaprak örnekleri alınarak verimlilik analizleri yapılmıştır. Yöre toprakları çözünebilir toplam tuz yönünden sorunsuz, kireç içerikleri normal, kumlu-tın bünyelidir. Toprak reaksiyonları genelde yüksek olup organik madde içerikleri düşüktür. Genel olarak topraklarda P, K ve Zn; bitkilerde ise N, K, Fe, Cu, Zn ve Mn miktarları yetersiz bulunmuştur. Toprakların CaCO3 içerikleriyle ilişkili reaksiyonlarının yüksekliği nedeni ile topraktan toz kükürt, olgunlaştırılmış ahır gübresi ve fizyolojik asit karakterli gübrelerin kullanımı tercih edilmelidir. Mikro besin elementleri için yapraktan gübre uygulamaları daha etkili olacaktır., In this study, we defined the nutrition statuses of a large number of peach groves located in the southern region of Izmir Province, including the Torbalı, Tire, and Selçuk Districts. For fertility analyses, soil and leaf samples were taken from 20 groves that are similar in terms of age and type. Soil in the region contains adequate amounts of total soluble salts and their lime content is normal, sandy-loamy texture. Soil reactions are typically high and organic material content is low. Generally, P, K, and Zn levels in the soils and N, K, Fe, Cu, Zn, and Mn levels in the plants are insufficient. Given the high reactivity related to CaCO3 content in the soils, fertilizers containing dust sulfur, matured stable manure, and physiological acid characteristics are preferred. For micronutrient elements, leaf mold applications may be more efficient.

The main objective of this chapter is to understand the trade-off between using debt and equity in the financing decisions of investments and investigate whether capital structure affects profitability of corporate firms in Turkey. This relationship is tested through using observations of 235 firms for 4 years with the inclusion of Correlation Analysis, Independent Sample t-test, and Regression Analysis with random/fixed effect estimation. Results show that in the manufacturing sector, size, growth, GDP, market to book value, short-term debt to total assets, and total debt to total assets came out to be significant factors in determining profitability (i.e. ROA). Findings indicate that the relationship between independent variables (i.e. debt/total assets and profitability) is positive, since firms can benefit from the tax advantages brought through receiving additional debt. For the service firms, contradictory results are obtained, such that the relationship between leverage and profitability is negative.

Özet: İzmir İli Tire İlçesi’nde yoğun tarımı yapılan mısır plantasyonlarının beslenme durumlarının belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılan bu araştırmada; yöreyi temsil edecek şekilde seçilen 25 adet mısır plantasyonundan toprak ve yaprak örnekleri alınarak verimlilik ve bitki besin maddeleri analizleriyapılmıştır. Bulgulara göre yöredeki mısır plantasyonlarında; N, K, Mg ve Zn bitki besin elementleri ile gübreleme gerekmektedir. Toprak pH’sı 7.5’dan fazla olan alanlarda, fosfor ve mikro elementlerin bitkilere yarayışlılığının artırılması açısından toz kükürt uygulaması yapılmalıdır., In this study which was carried out in order to determine nutritional status of corn plantations where intensive cultivation is carried out in Tire District of İzmir.Soil and leaf samples were obtained from 25 corn plantations which were chosen as representative of region and productivity and nutrient analyses were carried out. According to findings, the corn plantations in the region requiresfertilization of N, K, Mg and Zn nutrients. In the areas where soil pHis above 7.5, sulphur powder should be appliedinto soil root zone before sowing to increase availability of phosphorous and micro elements for plants.

Background/Aims: To evaluate the association between insulin resistance and hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C.Materials and Methods: A total of 104 chronic hepatitis C patients were included in this non-interventional, open-label, observational, multicenter, cross-sectional study conducted at 20 gastroenterology clinics in Turkey. The primary end point was the correlation between stage of hepatic fibrosis and insulin resistance evaluated via the homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance index. Confounders of hepatic fibrosis and insulin resistance were the secondary end points.Results: The mean age of patients was 52.8 years; 65.4% were female. Type 2 diabetes was present in 6.8% and insulin resistance noted in 38.0% of patients. Further, 45.7% of the patients had mild (A0/A1) and the remaining had moderate/severe (A2/A3) hepatic necroinflammatory activity. Patient distribution according to Metavir fibrosis stage was as follows: F0/F1 (57.0%); F2 (6.5%); F3 (23.7%); and F4 (12.9%). A univariate analysis revealed significant positive correlations between Metavir fibrosis stage and insulin resistance (r=0.297; p=0.007). Logistic regression analysis showed that significant predictors of insulin resistance were high alanine transaminase levels (odds ratio, 0.97; 95% confidence interval, 0.944-0.997) and liver fibrosis stage (odds ratio, 0.114; 95% confidence interval, 0.021-0.607).Conclusion: Our findings revealed significant associations between insulin resistance and hepatic fibrosis. © 2014 by The Turkish Society of Gastroenterology.

Türkiye gibi tarımsalüretim potansiyeli yüksek, gelecekteki gıda gereksinimini karşılamaya aday bir ülkenin; son yıllarda geliştirilenürün kalitesi odaklı gübreleme teknikleri ile, çevre insan ve bitki sağlığını koruyarak verimliliğisürdürebileceği, topraktan sofraya kadar sağlıklı, güvenilir ürünleri üretebilmesi mümkün olacaktır.Hayvansal organizmanın dışarıdan alması zorunlu ancak bitkilerin doğal olarak sentez ya da akümüle ettiği,sağlık üzerine olumlu katkıları bilimsel olarak kanıtlanmış fonksiyonel bileşenlerinin gübreleme ile arttırılması;sağlıklı bir tarım, sağlıklı beslenme ve sağlıklı bireylerden oluşan bir topluma ulaşmayı mümkün kılacaktır. The common viewpoint in agricultural production, that production is focused on yield, must be abandoned for an understanding of production which includes quality, and conventional techniques of fertilizer application must be left behind while applying measures to improve quality. The purpose of this compilation is to form a new viewpoint to answer producers' questions on the application of fertilizer at a time when rapidly increasing awareness and acceptance of functional foods are creating everincreasing demand. Nutrition from agricultural production is a process that has been continuing for millennia. It is possible for a country like Turkey, which has a high potential for agricultural production and can meet its needs for food in the future, to keep up its yield while preserving both people and plants in the environment, and to produce crops which are perfectly healthy and dependable, by means of recently developed techniques of fertilizer application which focus on crop quality. It will be possible to have healthy agriculture, healthy nutrition and a society of healthy individuals by increasing functional compounds which have been scientifically proven to have a positive effect on health and which plants either synthesize naturally or accumulate, but which must be collected from outside the body of an animal organism, by the use of fertilizers.

Fonksiyonel gıdalar, tamamen doğal besinlerden elde edilen biyoaktif özellikteki maddelerin, günlük yaşamda tükettiğimiz gıdalara eklenmesi ile ortaya çıkan ve sentetik özellik taşımayan gıdalardır. Toplumların son yıllarda giderek yaygınlaşan sağlıklı beslenme bilinci, bu ürünlerin üretim maliyetlerinin normal gıda ürünlerininkinden yüksek olmasına rağmen, sağlığa yaptıkları olumlu etkileri nedeniyle tüketim ve sağlık giderlerinin azalması, üretici firmaların fonksiyonel gıdalara olan ilgisini gün geçtikçe arttırmaktadır. Meyve ve sebzeler, doğal olarak içerdikleri antioksidan ve fenolik bileşiklerin, antioksidatif ve antimikrobiyal etkilerine bağlı olarak sağlık üzerine olumlu etkilerinden dolayı fonksiyonel gıda olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Özellikle üzümsü meyveler, antioksidanlar ve fenolik maddeler açısından oldukça zengindir. Bu derlemede, çileğin içerdiği antioksidan ve fenolik maddeler dolayısıyla kazandığı fonksiyonel özellikler ele alınmıştır., Functional foods are foods produced by the addition of materials with bioactive qualities obtained from wholly natural nutrients to foods that are consumed in our daily lives, and do not have any synthetic characteristics. Awareness of healthy eating, which has been steadily spreading in society, consumption of food products for their health effects, even though the cost is higher than that of normal food, and a desire to reduce health spending, is greatly increasing the interest of food production companies in functional foods. Fruits and vegetables are considered as functional foods because of their beneficial effects on human health deriving from the antioxidants and phenolic compounds which they naturally contain. Berry fruits are particularly rich in antioxidants and phenolic substances. in this present study, functional properties of strawberries are reviewed because they contain various antioxidants and phenolic substances in their structure.

PubMedID: 23114743 OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of insulin resistance (IR), viral load, and adipokine levels with liver histology in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this noninterventional, multicenter study carried out at 11 infectious diseases clinics in Turkey, 103 CHC patients [mean (SD) age: 50.2 (11.0) years, 60 (58.3%) women] planned to be treated by ribavirin and peginterferon-?2a were included. Data on hepatic fibrosis and steatosis, IR, viral load, and hepatitis C virus-RNA genotyping, adipokine, and cytokine levels were collected.
