This article addresses the importance of education for the people of the countryside, waters and forests in the Amazon region of Pará, focusing on valuing local knowledge and promoting the sustainable development of traditional communities. It aims to analyze the importance of respect for cultural diversity in the construction of school knowledge of the people of the countryside, waters and forests in the Amazon of Pará, discussing the relevance of a good education, which respects cultural diversity. The methodological approachbased on a qualitative approach can be justified by the belief that it provided inquiry into the limits and possibilities that the research process itself presents on a daily basis. The recognition of local knowledge is highlighted as a starting point for learning in these communities, enabling contextualized and meaningful education. In this approach, the school becomes a space for dialogue and exchange of experiences, valuing culture and popular knowledge as fundamental for the construction of knowledge. However, criticisms of the current curriculum model imposed on the countryside, dissociated from their local realities and disregarding their cultures, are also discussed. To overcome these challenges, the advances achieved through the struggle of social movements, especially the landless, are presented, emphasizing the importance of initiatives such as the Degree in Rural Education. The school curriculum is a vital battlefield on which versions of the ‘good society’ are fought over. For much of the past five decades, the educational left has been losing that battle. Optimistic calls for a curriculum to support a ‘common culture’ fragmented in the face of economic, social and cultural changes. This article charts debates about curriculum and culture, focusing on the work of the sociologist of education Michael Young, who spent his academic life at the IOE (Institute of Education), UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society (University College London, UK). It surveys the educational arguments of the New Left in the 1960s, the turn towards knowledge and control and neo-Marxism in the 1970s, the failed modernisations of the 1990s and the influence of postmodern culture on curriculum and school subjects. Finally, it assesses recent moves to reassert the importance of knowledge over skills and processes. The crisis in curriculum is reflective of wider crises in British society, and, it is suggested, Young offers a guide to what comes next.

The year 2020 was marked by the emergence of the new coronavirus that, in Brazil, had a direct impact on the performance of teaching activities in teaching, bringing a reality that many students and teachers were still unaware of. Online classes in schools required rapid adaptation and improvisation, which led to the emergence of some adversities. In this article I analyse the discursive context of two classes of students bringing into discussion the concepts of educational knowledge and the organization of teaching-learning activities. Although there is much research that provides nuanced insights into how teachers and students are involved in the social construction of classroom discourses about knowledge, in Romanian literature the issue of classroom interactions has been approached from the perspective of teachers ‘ and students’ perceptions, while school knowledge has been studied only incidentally Therefore, I present a qualitative study, based on a critical discourse analysis that highlights how different versions of knowledge are socially constructed in the discursive space of the classroom, in order to point out ways in which the classroom and school can become spaces in which interactions no longer revolve around knowledge defined only by reference to disciplinary content. Bimonthly observations and audio-video recordings were made in the 2017-2018 school year during language and communication activities, in two classes, from two different schools. The results show that classroom interactions and participation structures differ depending on the purpose of the activities, and student participation is not only based on generally accepted communication rules, but varies depending on the implicit or explicit purpose of the activities.

This article offers an account of the school contents (types and levels of organization) that underlie the curricular orientations issued by the Colombian Ministry of Education for the Natural Sciences area. This study was carried out in the Interinstitutional Doctorate in Education. This research is based on the qualitative approach from an interpretative perspective under the study case methodology. The Curricular Guidelines (Lineamientos Curriculares), the Core Competency Standards (Estándares Básicos de Competencias), and the Basic Learning Rights (Derechos Básicos del Aprendizaje) were examined, and a semi- structured interview was performed with one co-author of each orientation. All the data were examined through content analysis supported by the Atlas.ti software. Different types of conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal school contents stand out as results, and some articulations between said contents and the organization pro-posals are evidenced, such as the devising of levels of complexity and articulating axes. It is concluded that the types of school contents are directly related to a disciplinary point of view (instructional-scientist level), whereas, for the organization of such contents, a pedagogical construction and a particular didactic (integrative-transformative level) is proposed. The period of confinement in the spring of 2020 is of great interest in highlighting the parental work of educational support. While parental support is usually more diffuse, and is secondary in relation to what is done at school, occurring at different moments of daily life, home schooling during lockdown revealed new ways of helping and framing schoolwork. This article looks at parenting practices in higher socio-economic status (SES) families in France. Based on a massive questionnaire (N = 31,764) and a series of additional interviews (N = 15) conducted during lockdown, the aim is to investigate what makes parental assistance specific in high SES environments. Our findings show that such families have less difficulty carrying out schooling at home. What makes them consider this experience as 'not a big deal', as they say, is that they have organisational and pedagogical (i.e. objective) resources that enable them to respond to its challenges. In addition, however, we show that home schooling is experienced in these families as less contrived. In effect, they use schoolwork techniques that help to obscure (from others, but also from themselves) the effort that schoolwork requires. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to make a mapping of how curricular practices in the Brazilian High School education have been conducted in the last ten years, seeking to observe them in a context of growing pedagogic aestheticizing and active learning in contemporary pedagogies. We will examine eight accounts of curricular practices self-entitled innovative and interactive, published in several Brazilian journals. As we decided for active methodologies of learning, associated to particular devices of interactivity, it seems that a pedagogical shape emerges in which the class is similar to a game of questions and answers, a quiz.

This research focuses on the relationships between teacher knowledge and the teaching content with which Biology teachers deal in their daily teaching practices. This research seeks to understand the ways teachers use this knowledge to facilitate students’ learning of Biology. The methodological guidelines of the present study have been inspired on experiences of ethnographic studies to combine different procedures of data collection: questionnaires; interviews and classroom observations with field notes and video recording. The empirical design involved three public secondary schools, placed in the urban area of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia with the participation of six Biology teachers. In this work, throughout a triangulation process, the data produced with three of those six teachers were analyzed by means of a thematic content analysis, which allowed the identification of words, sentences or summaries, and a range of relationships present in the data. The results indicate that, in the production of school knowledge, teacher knowledge is translated into practice by a combination of different “ways of doing”, favoring students’ learning of biological contents. In this sense, these “ways of doing” indicate links between teacher knowledge and the biological content. The results also indicate that such links are results of teaching established routines within the school culture. The research argues that “ways of doing” are the outcomes of a more specific teacher’s experiential knowledge, that when articulated to other types of knowledge, shape the production of school knowledge.

The present article aims at analyzing today's approach to school knowledge about the teaching of Argentinian recent history. We will be using different components of 'school culture' as sources: the curricular design of 6th year, textbooks, interviews and surveys to secondary school teachers. Considering the great variety of didactic materials available, by describing some of the ones used in history classrooms, the idea is to show the multiple voices, stories and references which coexist there. Taking this into account, it will be demonstrated that school knowledge, historically associated to academic historiography, is made up of diverse knowledge and narratives.

This article aims to discuss the ways in which cultural pedagogies are related to school knowledge. In line with different research of the visual culture education field, the text articulates theoretical arguments that approach the pedagogies of pleasure, question, and conflict. It grounds pedagogical proposals that advance from a critical assessment of culture to considerations about the body, experiences, affections, practices of image’s uses and cultural artifacts in order to articulate creative and emancipatory forms of the teaching-learning processes.
