The current study sought to provide evidence for a measure of schizoid personality disorder (SZD PD) traits using the Five-Factor Model framework of personality. In the first study, undergraduate participants (n = 496) completed the Five-Factor Schizoid Inventory (FFZI) and other self-report measures. The first half of the sample was used to develop the FFZI, while the second half was used to validate it. The FFZI demonstrated excellent internal consistency, convergent validity with measures of SZD PD and hypothesized IPIP-NEO facets, and discriminant validity with other PDs and non-hypothesized IPIP-NEO facets. The second study recruited MTurk participants (n = 181) and demonstrated preliminary support for the reliability and validity of the FFZI in an online, community sample. Ultimately, these data suggest that the FFZI is a useful measure of SZD PD and provide further evidence that SZD PD can be conceptualized as a maladaptive extension of introversion traits. Purpose: The aim of the study is to present a description of a case of a person suffering from schizoid personality disorder with a focus on the mechanisms that influenced the life choices of the patient. Case description: 27-year-old man with schizoid personality disorder has been struggling with it since childhood, which mostly caused by his dysfunctional family. The man considers himself unique because he composes music, wants to write a book, set up a theatre and claims that he is able to discover a lot in math, but does not implement it while living in a fantasy world. Discussion: It is thought-provoking that a person with a personality disorder characterized, among other things, by being indifferent to the praise or criticism of others and displaying emotional coldness, detachment, or shallow emotionality, is interested in areas in which emotions embodied in art are one of the main forms of expression, and encountering feedback from others is intrinsically linked to this. One explanation for this may be that the contact with the audience in the patient's chosen fields of art (electronic music making) is not direct. Conclusions: Currently, treatment for schizoid personality disorder is long and difficult. This is mainly due to the fact that these individuals are often indifferent to the need for change, which can lead to a lack of motivation for any treatment. The present case report describes a 19-year-old male patient whose main symptoms were emotional coldness, absence of close relationships, difficulty experiencing pleasure with other people, and lack of motivation to work or to continue his studies. A schizoid personality disorder was diagnosed as a product of early maladaptive patterns such as inhibition, emotional deprivation, social isolation, and inadequacy. Likewise, a rigid and fragmented family context was evidenced, with an affective absence of parents and a focus on strict behavioral rules. The study aimed to intervene, from a cognitive clinical approach, the early maladaptive patterns and symptoms that maintained the features of schizoid personality disorder in the patient. For this purpose, cognitive behavioral therapy was carried out, with techniques such as debates, images to reparentalize, assignment of tasks, use of humor, and social skills training, among others. In conclusion, it can be stated that the early maladaptive patterns maintained the schizoid personality symptomatology. Finally, it was demonstrated through clinical and psychometric criteria that cognitive behavioral therapy decreased schizoid personality behaviors in the patient.

Schizoid personality disorder (SzPD) is characterised by flattened affect, limited capacity to express feeling, indifferent or disinterested attitude towards others with preference for solitary activities. It's east researched and hence most confusing personality disorder, both in terms of assessment and management leading to dropout or low engagement in the treatment process. The authors have attempted to propose a working model for SzPD ensuing their endeavour in management of a case. It's single case study design of a male presented with aimless behaviour, decreased social interaction, poor hygiene, daily alcohol consumption and feeling of boredom. CBT was initiated for depressive symptoms and alcohol dependence with occasional use of substances. The process and response to therapy indicated underlying psychopathology in personality after 13 sessions. Once diagnosis of SzPD was confirmed various techniques were used in therapy with total more than 65 sessions before termination was introduced. The outcome was significant reduction in alcohol intake, identifying triggers and its consequences. The sequel of social withdrawal and benefit of social interaction in occupational functioning. It's helpful to validate patient's unpleasantness and avoidance associated with social involvement as a milestone to build insight into the resulting consequences. The intervention helps in accepting as well as altering one's actions and appraisal of events. The indifferent attitude and limitation of establishing rapport in SzPD can induce burn-out in clinician. The treatment of schizoid personality disorder (SZPD) is a poorly studied area of psychotherapy. Although the construct of a schizoid personality has been defined for the last century, no clinical guidelines or evidence-based practices have been developed specifically for the treatment of SZPD. The cases series presented in this paper aim to explore the effect of an integrative psychotherapy for patients diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder. Two therapies that showed good evidence in supporting people with recurrent symptoms and mechanisms related to schizoid personality were integrated: Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. The former has been shown to be effective in treating schizophrenia spectrum disorders and psychosis and their associated negative symptoms, whereas the latter has been found to promote self-soothing and social safeness against a wide range of symptoms. This proposed integrative form of psychotherapy was tested by recruiting two patients diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder. The intervention showed reliable changes in symptomatology and remission from diagnosis. No adverse events were reported. Social disability is a defining characteristic of schizophrenia and a substantial public health problem. It has several components that are difficult to disentangle. One component, social disconnection, occurs extensively in the general community among nonhelp-seeking individuals. Social disconnection is an objective, long-standing lack of social/family relationships and minimal participation in social activities. It is associated with negative health effects, including early mortality, and is distinct from subjective loneliness. These 2 topics, social disability in schizophrenia and social disconnection in the general community, have generated entirely distinct research literatures that differ in their respective knowledge gaps and emphases. Specifically, the consequences of social disability in schizophrenia are unknown but its determinants (ie, nonsocial cognition, social cognition, and social motivation) have been well-examined. Conversely, the health consequences of social disconnection in the general community are well-established, but the determinants are largely unknown. Social disconnection is a condition that presents substantial public health concerns, exists within and outside of current psychiatric diagnostic boundaries, and may be related to the schizophrenia spectrum. A comparison of these 2 literatures is mutually informative and it generates intriguing research questions that can be critically evaluated.

Introduction: Migraine and nervous peptic ulcer are common psychosomatic diseases, that various psychological factors are effective in their occurrence and exacerbation. Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare the Brain Behavioral Systems (BAS/BIS), adjustment components and schizoid personality syndrome in patients with migraine and nervous peptic ulcer and normal subjects. Method: The method of this research was comparative causative research. The statistical population of this study was all patients over 18 years of age with nervous peptic ulcer and migraine who referred to Bukan medical centers in 2019 and their normal counterparts. The sample size was 90 people. 30 patients over 18 years old were assigned to each group by simple random sampling and their normal counterparts were also selected by available sampling method. Carver and Whites BIS/BAS Scales, Bells adjustment inventory and Millon clinical multiaxial inventory (MCMI-III) were provided for data collection. Data analysis was done by MANOVA and ANOVA method, using SPSS-PC (v.22). Schizoid personality disorder (SPD) has been characterised by a persistent detachment from, and indifference to, interpersonal relationships, alongside restricted range of expressed emotions, and limited rewards gained from social interactions, resulting in limited levels of socially healthy behaviour. Although the applicability of evidence-based psychological treatments, including cognitive therapy (CT), has been indicated, there is a noticeable scarcity of relevant academic literature that might inform clinical practice in mental health clinics. This rigorous single subject design study attempts to address such apparent gap in literature. Sixteen sessions of CT were undertaken with an individual diagnosed with SPD and comorbid mood disorder in a community-based mental healthcare setting. Formal standardised measurement, behaviour frequency sampling, and subjective data were utilised to systematically evaluate the outcomes, indicating a considerable improvement in psychosocial functioning. The paper highlights the pertinence of cognitive and behavioural strategies in helping schizoid individuals address their interpersonal difficulties, reduce emotional distress, acquire socially inclusive behaviour, and ultimately increase their psychosocial health, without the need for explicitly intervening with their underlying personality traits.

Lower serum levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have been suggested to indicate higher suicide risk and various psychiatric symptoms. Previously, we reported that lower serum LDL-C levels are associated with loneliness, social phobia, isolated life with little social support, and lower trust in others among young non-clinical females. Thus, we hypothesize that schizoid personality traits may be associated with lower serum LDL-C. We here verified this hypothesis using non-clinical data and clinical data with schizophrenia. Using the database from the Midlife in Japan (MIDJA), a cohort of residents living in Tokyo, we analyzed whether schizoid-related interpersonal characteristics were associated with LDL-C. In addition, we assessed the association between blood biomarkers including LDL-C and schizoid personality traits in 101 adult non-clinical volunteers. Finally, we evaluated the interaction between LDL-C and social decision making of patients with schizophrenia. In female non-clinical volunteers, serum LDL-C level was a predictive factor and negatively correlated with schizoid personality traits. Female patients with schizophrenia, whose serum LDL-C levels were lower, tended not to trust other females. The present findings suggest that LDL-C may influence schizoid personality traits in females, which provide a basis for further investigation into the biological aspects of schizoid personality disorder.

Although widely conceived as distinct conditions, higher-functioning autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizoid personality disorder (schizoid PD) share similar clinical symptomatology. This study explored the relationship between the two disorders by collecting extensively validated measures of autistic trait burden (Social Responsive Scale, Second Edition) and schizoid PD affectation (Diagnostic Interview for Genetic Studies) from clinically ascertained verbal males with and without autism ages 12 to 25 years (N = 72) via parent, teacher, and self-report. Although only a small minority of adolescents with ASD met full diagnostic criteria for schizoid PD, participants with ASD endorsed a continuous distribution of schizoid PD traits that reflected a pronounced pathological shift in comparison with those in the control group, with one half of ASD males experiencing three or more Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition schizoid PD criterion items "often" or "almost always." Results suggest significant amplification of schizoid PD trait burden in adolescents with ASD. Although evidence with respect to its prevalence is mixed, it is clear that fathers perpetrate a serious proportion of filicide. There also seems to be a consensus that paternal filicide has attracted less research attention than its maternal counterpart and is therefore less well understood. National registries are a very rich source of data, but they generally provide limited information about the perpetrator as psychiatric, psychological and behavioral data are often lacking. This paper presents a fully documented case of a paternal filicide. Noteworthy is that two motives were present: spousal revenge as well as altruism. The choice of the victim was in line with emerging evidence indicating that children with disabilities in general and with autism in particular are frequent victims of filicide-suicide. Finally, a schizoid personality disorder was diagnosed. Aim Schizoid (ScPD) and Schizotypal (SPD) personality disorders are rare and severe disorders. They are associated with high liability to schizophrenia and present an attenuated form of its negative symptoms, which are considered a putative endophenotype for schizophrenia. The trans-diagnostic study of negative symptoms in non-psychotic populations such as ScPD/SPD might provide useful markers of a negative-symptom domain; however, little is known about their neurobiological substrates. The aim of the study was to investigate differences in gray and white matter volumes in subjects with ScPD/SPD compared to a group of healthy controls. Methods Structural magnetic resonance images were obtained from 20 never-psychotic subjects with ScPD/SPD and 28 healthy controls. Resulting values from clusters of differences were correlated in patients with relevant clinical variables (O-LIFE scale). Results ScPD/SPD presented greater bilateral white matter volume compared to healthy controls in the superior part of the corona radiata, close to motor/premotor regions, which correlated with the O-LIFE subtest of cognitive disorganization. No differences were found in regional gray matter or global gray/white matter volumes. Conclusion Greater volumes in motor pathways might relate to cognitive symptoms and motor alterations commonly present in schizophrenia-related disorders. Given the established link between motor signs and psychosis, structural alterations in motor pathways are suggested as a putative biomarker of a negative-symptom domain in psychosis subject to further testing. The aim of this study was to evaluate early maladaptive schemas and cognitive distortions in young adults with schizoid personality disorder with ordinary people. The aim of this study was causal-comparative design and applied research. The study population consisted of young people with schizoid personality disorder are referred to clinics and psychological services in the city and they are normal people. The sample size of young people with schizoid personality disorder referred to clinics and psychological services in the city of Shiraz in 2015 that number was 40 cases and 40 normal subjects who were matched for age and education level and randomly selected respectively. The instrument used in this study, the Young Schema Questionnaire (SQ-SF) (short form), cognitive distortions and scale questionnaire was schizoid personality. Usingthet-testto show the difference between the two groups in the primary and distorted cognitive schema variables there. Significant differences between the two groups in the scheme of mistrust/abuse, emotional deprivation, defectiveness/shame and social isolation/alienation there. The scheme triggered/instability between the two groups was not significant. Significant differences between the two groups in the scheme vulnerable to loss / illness did not change his / caught and there is a failure. But in the scheme dependence / incompetence was no significant difference between the two groups. Significant differences between the two groups in the scheme of entitlement / grandiosity and self-control / self-discipline is inadequate. Significant differences between the two groups in the scheme of obedience and sacrifice there. Significant differences between the two groups in emotional inhibition schemas and there are strict criteria. Social anhedonia and social anxiety are two constructs with similar behaviors including avoidance of and withdrawal from social situations. In three studies, the current research aimed to test whether social anhedonia could be discriminated from social anxiety using the most common measure of social anhedonia, the Revised Social Anhedonia Scale (RSAS). In Study 1, an item-level factor analysis of the RSAS found two factors: Social Apathy/Aversion and Social Withdrawal. In Study 2, this two-factor structure was confirmed in a separate sample. In Study 3, a model with social anhedonia and anxiety scale scores loading on separate factors fit better than a model with social anhedonia and anxiety loading on a single factor. Social anhedonia and anxiety displayed differential associations with negative schizotypy and emotion processing. Schizoid Personality Disorder (SZPD) is among the most under-researched, difficult to treat of the personality disorders. It is difficult to research and treat clinically because the asocial nature of the condition predisposes the afflicted to avoid professional help and most other social contact. Near-total isolation associated with the Schizoid condition is problematic because it increases risk for mental decompensation, violence, and substance abuse. Most of what is known about this condition comes from psychoanalytic theory, an approach that is rich in the depth of understanding it can apart, though may be insufficient to treat more severe and co-occurring disorder cases that frequent community mental health. With these limitations in mind, a proposed treatment integrates the psychoanalytic-object relations approach with Alcoholics Anonymous principles. As early as 1926, the Kiev-based child psychiatrist Grunya Efimovna Sukhareva (Груня Ефимовна Сухарева) (1891-1981) published a detailed description of autistic traits in a number of children in a scientific German psychiatry and neurology journal. She initially used the term 'schizoid (eccentric) psychopathy' but later replaced it with 'autistic (pathological avoidant) psychopathy' to describe the clinical picture of autism. Her original article was available almost two decades before the case reports of Asperger and Kanner; nevertheless, Sukhareva's pioneer work has been greatly overlooked. Discriminating and independent dimensions of schizotypal and autistic tendency exist in Factors 2 and 3, respectively. Current diagnostic protocols could result in different diagnoses depending on the instrument used, suggesting the need for neuromarkers that objectively differentiate autistic and schizotypal traits and resolve the question of commonality versus co-morbidity.
