Having a gatekeeper position in a collaborative network offers firms great potential to gain competitive advantages. However, it is not well understood what kind of collaborations are associated with such a position. Conceptually grounded in social network theory, this study draws on the resource-based view and the relational factors view to investigate which types of collaboration characterize firms that are in a gatekeeper position, which ultimately could improve firm performance in subsequent periods. The empirical analysis utilizes a unique longitudinal data set to examine dynamic network formation. We used a data crawling approach to reconstruct collaboration networks among the 500 largest companies in Germany over nine years and matched these networks with performance data. The results indicate that firms in gatekeeper positions often engage in medium-intensity collaborations and less likely weak-intensity collaborations. Strong-intensity collaborations are not related to the likelihood of being a gatekeeper. Our study further reveals that a firm's knowledge base is an important moderator and that this knowledge base can increase the benefits of having a gatekeeper position in terms of firm performance.

The objective of this study was to describe the psychological and quality of life outcomes in demobilized Colombian ex-combatants.A cross-sectional study was conducted on 58 ex-combatants from the Colombian government's reintegration program. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was measured by the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview. We applied the Beck-II Depression Inventory, Resilience Scale, Everyday Discrimination Scale, and World Health Organization Quality of Life-Short Version (WHOQOL-BREF) for measuring symptoms of depression, resilience, discrimination, and quality of life, respectively.The prevalence of PTSD was 63,8%, principally on ex-combatants with ≤10 years in the reinstatement program. Females with primary/elementary school, extremely low social status, unipersonal family type, family income1 minimal wage, and symptoms of depression showed a higher prevalence ratio (1.30). The mean scores of depression symptoms, resilience, and quality of life were systematically poorer in the group with PTSD. Significant differences were found Resilience scale domains Personal Competence (p = .043) and Acceptance of Self and Life (p = .012), WHOQOL-BREF Psychological (p = .029) and Environment domains (p = .015).Colombian ex-combatants with PTSD attending a reinstatement program presented a higher frequency of depression symptoms, lower quality of life, and lower resilience than those without PTSD. Background Parkinson's disease (PD) caregivers, particularly in Latin America, may experience high levels of affiliate stigma due to their association with a person having a disability. The most common measure used of this construct in the literature, the Affiliate Stigma Scale, was validated using non-standard and questionable methods. Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Affiliate Stigma Scale with PD caregivers in Mexico using more widely accepted psychometric approaches including confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses (confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) and exploratory factor analyses (EFAs)). Methods A sample of 148 PD caregivers from Mexico completed this measure, as well as indices of caregiver burden and anxiety. Results Initial CFAs revealed that the data did not fit either the originally proposed one-factor or three-factor structures. An EFA was then conducted which was unable to discern any factor structure. Upon instituting a stepwise removal alpha-if-item-deleted process, a 5-item Affiliate Stigma Scale Spanish Short Form was retained with an adequate Cronbach's alpha, good convergent validity, and a Short Form CFA generally indicating adequate fit. Conclusions The new Spanish Affiliate Stigma Scale Short Form holds promise for more appropriately measuring affiliate stigma likely in general but particularly in Spanish and among PD caregivers. The Short Form can assist not only in assessing levels of caregiver affiliate stigma, but in creating novel interventions to help support caregivers and decrease stigma.

Item does not contain fulltext The purpose of this study was to describe the development and preliminary testing of a new scale assessing knowledge about melanoma risk factors and early detection/secondary prevention. Data was drawn from a longitudinal study assessing barriers and facilitators of skin self- examination among patients diagnosed with melanoma. For the current analysis, 191 patients who completed the new 9-item Knowledge About Melanoma Early Detection Scale and other study measures were included. Exploratory factor analysis with were conducted, which identified a robust scale comprised of 6 items with factor loadings ranging from .56 to .81. Higher scores on the Knowledge About Melanoma Early Detection Scale were associated with younger age and more positive attitudes about melanoma prevention, but not with biological sex, education, melanoma stage, or past self-administered and physician-provided skin checks. Further studies are needed to replicate these findings and to further establish the predictive validity of this scale and its usefulness for health research. 9 p.

“Teaching competency has different dimensions such as mastery of subject matter, enhancement of motivation of students, planning, presentation and evaluation skills and classroom managerial skills. Teacher possessing all these skills to reasonable extent can be a competent teacher”. The success of teaching mostly depends on some psychological and demographical factors of teachers. The relationship between teacher efficiency and intelligence was also the subject of study of many researchers. Many researchers indicated highly positive correlation between teaching success and intelligence. On the other the investigators concluded that the correlation between intelligence and teaching success in certain cases were positive, in some others negative, while in the rest non-significant. Therefore, it reveals to the need for further investigation and research, to find out the co-relationship between teacher efficiency and intelligence. In the present study, multi-stage stratified random sampling technique was adopted to draw the sample. The study was conducted on a sample of 589 teachers, selected from the 46 secondary schools of Bareilly region in U.P. For the purpose of measuring teaching efficiency and intelligence, the Teaching Efficiency Scale (TES)), were used. The results of the study indicate a significant and positive co-relation between intelligence and teacher efficiency.

Shyness trait is a double-edged personality trait, and could pose a risk in early childhood for later adjustment difficulties. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to children with shyness trait and properly supervise them in early education, where the key problem is shyness trait recognition. Although some psychological methods of shyness measurement have been presented, they are high-cost and can only get a one-sided result limited by the targeted subjects. To develop an automated method of shyness trait recognition, we collect a dataset, containing online writing data of 1,754 schoolchildren from an educational website and ground truth labels obtained by a professional scale. The natural implicitness makes shyness trait difficult to be observed from a single point of view and the class imbalanced problem increases the challenge. In this paper, a novel shyness trait recognition framework is proposed, which extracts multi-view features of online writing, including document-view, sentence-view and temporality-view ones. Different strategies with different features are applied to each single-view prediction and the multi-view prediction is made by a weighted voting ensemble. To verify the effectiveness, extensive experiments are conducted, demonstrating that the multi-view prediction significantly outperforms each single-view prediction and some advanced models of multi-view learning.

Motivated by the rising environmental protection awareness and the importance of green product design, in this article we develop two models to investigate the quality and greenness decisions and product line choices of a green manufacturer as well as the corresponding impact of product line length on environmental performance. In our models, both the manufacturer and consumers show environmental responsibility behaviors. We find that the manufacturer extends the product line when the unit fit cost, the green cost, the quality cost, the market scale of low-segment consumers, and the environmental responsibility level (or unit environmental cost) are low. In the presence of two products with different market positioning, our analysis reveals that: first, owing to the consumer's self-selection behavior, product quality and greenness may be distorted from the efficient quality and greenness; second, product line extension may improve both the environmental performance and the manufacturer's utility, i.e., achieving a win–win outcome; and third, a higher unit environmental cost (environmental responsibility level or a longer product line) will improve the environmental performance if the unit environmental cost is high. In the continuous green valuation setting, interestingly, we find different results that the manufacturer with a high environmental responsibility level may extend its product line, and the environmental performance increases with the unit environmental cost in the single-product case.

Poor-quality remains a pervasive challenge for the delivery of large-scale transport infrastructure projects. Typically, it manifests as nonconformance and often requires rework. If, however, a nonconformance goes unidentified, then an asset's integrity can be jeopardized and put people's lives at risk. Hence, governments should shoulder the responsibility for quality. In practice, however, there has been a proclivity for governments to place fixed-price contracts and high-level quality risks on contractors. Yet, there is a dearth of research that has addressed the issue of poor-quality within large-scale transport infrastructure projects. In this article, we attempt to fill this gap and adopt an illustrative case-study approach to garner an understanding as to why poor-quality manifests during the construction of large-scale transport projects. We examine the issue of poor-quality in three high-profile rail transit projects using the gray literature: 1) Delhi Airport Metro Express (India); 2) Honolulu Rail Transit (United States); and 3) Sydney Skytrain (Australia). Then, drawing on empirical observations from two road projects, a highway corridor and a busway, we bring to the fore the poor-quality issue that pervades practice. To curb poor-quality, we suggest that the public and private sectors work collaboratively and share risks to ensure the benefits and value of an asset can be realized. To facilitate the process of collaboration and sharing of quality risks, we propose a Standard Life-cycle Quality Assessment system that can be used to ensure projects conform to standards and requirements.

Background and aim: Couples’ communication concerning sexual issues is influenced by various individual and social factors. The present study investigated the socio-demographic predictors of dyadic sexual communication among married women of reproductive age.\ud \ud Methods: A cross-sectional survey study was conducted from May to October 2019 in comprehensive health centers of Qazvin City, Iran. The participants comprised 400 married women with mean age of 35.66 years recruited via a two-stage sampling method. The Dyadic Sexual Communication Scale (DSCS) and a socio-demographic questionnaire were used for data collection. Univariable and multivariable linear regression models with a significance level of 0.05 were used for statistical analysis.\ud \ud Results: The mean score of sexual communication was 59.19 out of 78 (SD = 12.63). Based on multivariable linear regression model, life satisfaction (β = 0.34 high vs. moderate), frequency of sexual intercourse (β = 0.20), moderate vs. poor economic status (β = 0.12), and using contraception (β = −0.09) were predictors of good dyadic sexual communication. These variables explained 32% of the variance concerning dyadic sexual communication among married women of reproductive age.\ud \ud Conclusion: Life satisfaction, frequency of sexual intercourse, moderate economic status, and using contraception were predictors of good dyadic sexual communication.

Adolescents and young adults working in agriculture are at greater risk of injury. We describe the development of an online safety and health training for people who hire, teach, or supervise young agricultural workers. The online training targeted specific skills supervisors can use to effectively supervise, train, and communicate with young workers about health and safety hazards that impact injury risk. Consistent with NIOSH's evidence-based Total Worker Health® approach, the training integrated safety and health promotion and was also informed by behavioral change theories. An iterative approach was used to develop and evaluate the training. A content review provided feedback on topics and organization of material. Safety and health experts assessed the revised training content and rated the training topics on clarity, accuracy, and completeness. Finally, a pilot study with employers and health and safety professionals was used to evaluate the training materials. The content review suggested ways to reorganize the material to improve flow and reduce redundancy. Ratings of clarity, accuracy, and completeness were high, ranging from 5 to 7 (mean ratings from 5.8 to 7.0) on a scale of 1 ("does not do this at all") to 7 ("does this very well"). The pilot study led to changes in wording and items used to assess knowledge. A theoretically-informed approach was used to develop an online supervisor training to increase awareness and build skills. An iterative process that included expert review, evaluation of learning competencies, and a pilot study with the end-users is described.

OBJECTIVE The Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) recommends assessment of physical function using a performance-based test of stair negotiation, but was unable to recommend any specific test. We assessed the reliability, validity, responsiveness, measurement error, and minimum important change (MIC) of the 6-step timed Stair Climb Test (SCT). METHODS We used pooled data from 397 participants with hip or knee osteoarthritis (54% women) from four clinical trials (86% retained at 12-week follow-up). Construct validity was assessed by testing six a priori hypotheses against other OARSI-recommended physical function measures. A self-reported Global Rating of Change scale was used to classify participants as worsened, improved and stable. Participants who worsened in physical function were excluded from all analyses. Responsiveness and MIC were assessed using multiple anchor-based and distribution-based approaches. Test-retest reliability, standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC) were assessed on stable participants. RESULTS Five of six hypotheses (83%) for construct validity were met. Test-retest reliability was excellent (intraclass correlation coefficient2,1 : 0.83; 95% confidence interval: 0.71, 0.90). The SEM and SDC values were 0.44 and 1.21 seconds respectively. We did not find adequate support for responsiveness. The MIC values ranged from 0.78 to 1.95 seconds using different approaches (median=1.37 seconds). CONCLUSION The 6-step timed SCT adequately assesses the construct of physical function in individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis with excellent 12-week test-retest reliability. However, support for its responsiveness was inadequate to recommend its use as an outcome measure in people with osteoarthritis for research and clinical practice.

Consultation is an important implementation strategy to improve treatment fidelity and clinical outcomes, yet research has not identified the aspects of consultation that differentially affects clinician skill development and client symptom change. Thus, the present study investigated the effect of the consultant, consultation activities, and consultants' (n = 6) perceptions of consultees (n = 60) on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment fidelity and client outcomes. In addition, we assessed the accuracy of consultants' evaluations of clinicians using the Perceived Enthusiasm, Skill, and Participation scale (P-ESP). Results indicated that there was a significant effect of consultant on adherence to, but not competence in, delivering Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). The effect of the consultant on PTSD symptom change was not significant. Consultants significantly differed in their discussion of CPT strategies and their application to individual cases, but did not differ on reviewing and providing feedback on fidelity. Consultant perceptions as assessed by the P-ESP were not associated with clinicians' current levels of adherence or competence, suggesting that consultants may not accurately assess clinician skill during consultation. Client PTSD symptom change neither predicted, nor was predicted by, consultants' perceptions of their consultees' skill. This article outlines potential reasons for consultant effects and possible biases at play that may reduce the accuracy of consultant perceptions and presents suggestions on alternative strategies to assess clinician skill during consultation. Background Simulation education is needed to train a highly competent nursing workforce. In-person simulation requires many resources, such as faculty, space, and time, that can negatively affect its feasibility. These barriers have prompted educators to seek new technologies to provide experiential learning opportunities, such as virtual simulation (VS). The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the need for educators to investigate alternative learning opportunities. Methods A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with pre-licensure and advanced practice nursing students. They participated in a VS learning experience that was evaluated using the System Usability Scale (SUS)®, the Clinical Learning Environment Comparison Survey (CLECS 2.0), and the Simulation Effectiveness Tool-Modified (SET-M). Result 197 pre-licensure and 11 advanced nursing practice students completed post-simulation evaluations. The results from the SUS scale found the overall virtual system effective. Evaluating the CLECS tool found students’ perceived experience was relatively similar for face-to-face simulation and screen-based simulation. The SET-M indicated students rated the VS simulation experience positively. Conclusion VS for nursing education can be an effective experiential learning tool.

The relationship of fear of COVID-19, resilience, and religiosity in the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, which affects life in many areas of psychological, social, economic, cultural, religious, has been examined in this study. In this study, 337 people, including 219 women (65%) and 118 men (35%), participated. The present research was a descriptively based quantitative study based on the relational survey model. COVID-19 Fear Scale, Brief Resilience Scale and Religiosity Scale were used to collect data. In addition, a Personal Information Form was used to obtain information and opinions about COVID-19 and determine demographic characteristics. The t-test, correlation and regression analysis were used in statistical processes. The findings obtained in this research showed that women have more fear of COVID-19 than men, and men have higher resilience and religiosity scores than women. In addition, it was observed that there was a significant and negative relationship between the fear of COVID-19 and resilience, religiosity and age, a significant and positive relationship between resilience and religiosity and age, and a significant and positive relationship between religiosity and age. Finally, it was found that resilience, religiosity and age together were predictors of COVID-19 fear. However, when looking at the t-test results of the significance of the regression coefficients, it was seen that only resilience was a significant predictor of COVID-19 fear. The findings obtained are discussed in light of the literature.

This paper studies how the expansion in schooling infrastructure affects the female literacy rate using the Education for All program in India. I exploit the variation in the targeting of the program to educationally and not educationally backward sub-districts. Using regression discontinuity and panel data of all schools in India, I find that there was a significant expansion in the number of girls' schools and residential schools for girls in the educationally backward areas. But being classified as educationally backward did not lead to a significant effect on either the female literacy rate or the gender gap in literacy rate. To achieve a quicker solution to low levels of literacy, alternative cost effective methods compared to large scale infrastructure programs can be explored.

Violence in relation to each human is classified as a socially reprehensible act in civilized societies, especially when it affects pregnant women. An analysis of the world literature allows us to assume that the scale of violence against this social group varies from 0.9% to 29% (depending on the country, the adopted definition of the phenomenon and methods of assessment) as well as indicates the causes and effects of violence against pregnant women. The aim of the article is to initiate a social discussion on the marginalized problem of multi-faceted violence against a woman and her unborn child and to awaken interest in it on the part of not only researchers, but also practitioners and decision makers responsible for counteracting this phenomenon and supporting pregnant women – victims of violence.

Aim The aim was to translate the Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PSS: NICU) into the Persian language and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version. Method The PSS: NICU was translated into Persian using the process of forward–backward translation. Thereafter, an internal panel of neonatal nurses (n = 10) assessed face and content validity and a panel of parents (n = 20) assessed content validity. A sample of 260 parents recruited from two different neonatal units completed the PSS: NICU and answered some open-ended questions in which they could comment on language and wording. Psychometric properties including internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha (if item deleted) and corrected item total were evaluated. Result The result indicates that the Persian version of PSS: NICU, has acceptable psychometric properties and can be considered in clinical practice in NICUs in Iran. Conclusion In order to support parents, healthcare providers need to diagnose their sources of stress in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Persian version of the PSS: NICU can be used for this purpose.

Introduction Inadequate drooling can cause serious clinical, functional and social problems. Validated questionnaires to evaluate drooling impact on quality of life are lacking in Brazilian Portuguese. Objectives To translate and validate the drooling impact scale to Brazilian Portuguese. Methods The drooling impact scale was translated to Brazilian Portuguese and back- translated to English to assess potential conceptual differences. Brazilian Portuguese version of drooling impact scale was applied to a 40 patients’ sample of sialorrhea presenting pediatric patients (up to 20 years of age). Chronbach’s alpha, exploratory factorial analysis and confirmatory factorial analysis were then proceeded with data collected. Results The mean drooling impact scale value for the whole population was 51.77 (SD = 16.13). The internal consistency obtained with Cronbach’s alpha indicated a value of 0.72 for the entire sample. The Bartlett’s test of sphericity was significant (p< 0.0001), confirming correlation among variables tested. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy revealed a value of 0.72, indicating that the correlation matrix was reasonably suitable for factor analysis. Regarding exploratory factorial analysis, parallel analysis suggested a two-factor solution that was used for confirmatory factorial analysis. The first factor was responsible for 33.78% of the variance with an Eigenvalue of 3.38. The second factor explained 16.1% of the variance with an Eigenvalue of 1.61. At confirmatory factorial analysis, the two-factor model showed consistently better adjustments parameters than the one-factor model. Conclusion The drooling impact scale has been successfully translated to Brazilian Portuguese language, showing adequate internal validity. Validation of this instrument allows physicians and other personnel involved in the care of these patients to perform a better management of patients experiencing drooling. With this tool, we are now able to guide routines and provide guidelines both before and after the different kinds of treatments in order to improve the general well-being of the patient and his family.

In the world we live in today, the presence and claims of crisis abound – from climate change, financial and political crisis to depression, livelihoods and personal security crisis. There is a challenge to studying crisis due to the ways in which crisis as a notion, condition and experience refers to and operates at various societal levels. Further, different kinds of crisis can overlap and intersect with each other, and act as precursors or consequences of other crises, in what can be thought of as inter-crisis relations or chains of crises. This article makes an enquiry into how to develop more adequate analytical tools for understanding crisis as a multidimensional phenomenon. We ask how crisis can be conceptualised and what the analytical potentials of a distinct crisis perspective might be? In this article we suggest a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to bridge between traditionally separated realms. Our ambition is to present a case for the development of Interdisciplinary Crisis Studies as a field of scholarly enquiry, which allows for new perspectives on data collection and analysis. Using the cases of, first, crisis and security and, second, crisis and climate, conflict and migration, we illustrate how studying and intervening in crises requires non-linear approaches which connect across disciplines to develop more comprehensive, interdisciplinary understandings of societal problems and better solutions. In concluding the paper, we assert that key features of Interdisciplinary Crisis Studies must include (1) temporality, spatiality and scale; (2) multi-layeredness, processuality and contradictions; and (3) gender, intersectionality and social inequalities.

Recent conceptual and empirical advances have focused on interpersonal dimensions of emotion regulation and, more specifically, to the features of attempted support transactions that shape the outcomes of enacted support. We conducted 2 autobiographical recall studies to investigate receivers' evaluations of intrinsic interpersonal emotion regulation interactions, to ascertain the number of dimensions required to capture variation in those evaluations, and then to examine associations of those dimensions with perceived benefits of the interactions. To do so, we developed a new questionnaire, the Interpersonal Regulation Interaction Scale (IRIS). In Study 1 (n = 390), an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) of the IRIS yielded 4 dimensions, which we labeled responsiveness, hostility, cognitive support, and physical presence. Each dimension was uniquely associated with perceived benefits of receiving interpersonal emotion regulation. In Study 2, we collected multiple, diverse samples (ns = 199-895) and found support for the replicability and generalizability of key findings from Study 1, including the factor structure and associations with perceived benefits. In summary, across 2 studies and multiple, diverse samples, we identified 4 conceptually and practically important dimensions of receivers' evaluations of interpersonal emotion regulation interactions and developed a brief measure that taps interaction variability in these dimensions. Sentiment analysis is a popular technique to identify the sentiment of a piece of text. Although several techniques have been proposed, the performance of current sentiment analysis techniques are still far from acceptable and the causes of wrong classifications are not clear. In this paper, we study how sentiment analysis performs on game reviews. We report the results of a large scale study on the performance of widely-used sentiment analysis classifiers on game reviews. Then, we investigate the root causes for misclassifications and quantify the impact of each cause on the overall performance. We study three existing classifiers: Stanford CoreNLP, NLTK, and SentiStrength. Our results show that most classifiers do not perform well on game reviews, with the best one being NLTK (with an AUC of 0.70). We also identified four main causes for wrong classifications, such as reviews that point out advantages and disadvantages of the game, which might confuse the classifier. The identified causes are not trivial to be resolved and our suggestion to game developers is to prioritize the causes with higher impact on the sentiment classification performance. Finally, we show that training sentiment classifiers on reviews that are stratified by the game genre is effective.

A theoretically grounded, validated measure of parent financial socialization is needed. This article describes the development and validation process of three new scales: the Parent Financial Modeling Scale (eight items), the Parent-Child Financial Discussion Scale (nine items), and the Experiential Learning of Finances Scale (three items). These may be treated as subscales of a multidimensional latent construct: the Parent Financial Socialization Scale (20 items). The three scales measure the three primary methods of family financial socialization. The scales are designed to be retrospective, with target participants being U.S. emerging adults (age 18-30). A rigorous development process was undertaken: an initial pool of items was generated, expert assessments were collected, cognitive interviews were conducted, and (following preliminary data collection) preliminary item reduction analysis and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted. Final data were collected from a diverse (51.7% female, 47.6% male; 31.6% White, 22.0% Black, 19.8% Latinx, 14.6% Asian; 50.4% no parent with college degree, 47.4% parent with college degree) sample of 4,182 U.S. emerging adults. During validation, item reduction analysis, CFA, reliability tests, measurement invariance tests, and construct validity tests were conducted. The scales demonstrated acceptable reliability and validity, and invariance was established across sex, race, and parents' education level. These scales are unique in their ability to capture nuance and will allow for comparisons across studies. They will enhance the quality of family financial socialization research, expand the questions that can be answered, and allow for the development of programming that is effective for a wide range of families. Little research has compared item functioning of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) anxiety short form 6a and the generalized anxiety disorder 7-item scale using item response theory models. This was a secondary analysis of self-reported assessments from 67 at-risk U.S. military veterans. The two measures performed comparably well with data fitting adequately to models, acceptable item discriminations, and item and test information curves being unimodal and symmetric. The PROMIS® anxiety short form 6a performed better in that item difficulty estimates had a wider range and distributed more evenly and all response categories had less floor effect, while the third category in most items of the generalized anxiety disorder 7-item scale were rarely used. While both measures may be appropriate, findings provided preliminary information supporting use of the PROMIS® anxiety short form 6a as potentially preferable, especially for veterans with low-to-moderate anxiety. Further testing is needed in larger, more diverse samples.

Background Announced in March 2016 and implemented in April 2018, the UK Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL) aims to incentivise the reformulation of soft drinks. The SDIL has successfully decreased the amount of sugar in UK soft drinks, and purchased in soft drinks. Consequently, the SDIL has been widely applauded as a policy success. SSB taxation in other countries, however, has not been as successful and in some cases the policy was retracted. We aimed to develop an understanding of why the SDIL was deemed successful by analysing parliamentary debate two years before its announcement until two years post-implementation (2014–2020). Methods Searches of Hansard were conducted for parliamentary debate transcripts discussing the SDIL across three key time periods: Pre-Announcement (01/01/14–15/03/16), Announcement – Implementation (16/03/16–5/04/18), and Post-Implementation (6/04/18–16/03/20). 218 transcripts containing eligible search terms were identified, and 179 included in the analysis after screening for relevance. Applied thematic analysis was conducted in 5 stages: familiarisation and creation of initial codebooks, independent second coding, codebook finalisation through team consensus, final coding of the dataset to the complete codebook and theme finalisation through team consensus. Results Common issues raised in discussions across the timeline were: the ring-fencing of SDIL funds for pro-social causes, the scale of the health problems associated with excess sugar consumption, and the role of celebrities in making the SDIL a high profile issue. MPs acknowledged that the SDIL is not a ‘silver bullet’ for obesity prevention: it was positioned as either a ‘good start’ with other interventions required or that other interventions were needed instead. Distinct themes were that, due to early reformulation, the SDIL was discussed as ‘having worked’ one year prior to implementation. This notion persisted until the end of the timeline. These themes will be further refined to identify temporal patterns and trends. Additional results will be submitted before the June 28th deadline. Population Health Relevance The SDIL is unique: it is a flagship policy for the UK Childhood Obesity Strategy and has cross-party support. Understanding why and how the SDIL made it onto the statutes, and why it was politically successful is vital for using policy instruments to improve population health in future. This work will aid understanding of the parliamentary process surrounding the SDIL, and could provide insight for those wishing to extend the SDIL to other products or implement SSB taxes elsewhere.

Small-scale commercial farmers are regarded as the strategic avenue to achieve meaningful development in rural areas of South Africa. The government acknowledged that the inclusion of small-scale commercial farming in its development strategies. The paper aims to measure the efficiency of small-scale commercial farming enterprises in Vhembe District in Limpopo Province. Quantitative data were collected from 217 small-scale commercial farmers using structured questionnaires. The data were standardized using a farming enterprise budget system and analysed using the maximum likelihood and stochastic frontier analysis. The results revealed that aggregate output was positive and significantly influenced by age, education level, farm experience, farm labour, and government grants. However, the projected stochastic production frontier model combined with the efficiency parameters showed that labour and credit computed a negative effect on technical efficiency. The results indicated that the average level of technical efficiency ranged between 20% and 96% with a mean of 54%. This indicates that there is potential to increase production among small-scale commercial farmers in the study area by 46 % through efficient use of existing resources. As such, the local government should provide necessary supports such as formal agriculture training, access to credit and information to increase productivity.

This paper was initiated in order to find the usage and relevance of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by the smallholder farmers of the Umzimvubu Local Municipality of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. A survey questionnaire was then developed to collect the relevant data from randomly selected six villages of Umzimvubu Local Municipality targeting 138 respondents. The questionnaires structure employed both closed and open-ended questions that were administered using a face to face interview, conducted on the sample population in each village. There seems to be a correlation between ICT usage and the economies of scale in agricultural development, where smallholder farmers tend to use less of highly modernized ICT, while commercial large scale farmers use more of the modernized ICT. This disparity amongst farmers is exacerbated in many areas by the differing support systems employed by the public extension services.

Empirical studies of adult cyber-aggression are sparse, partly due to a lack of validated assessments. We evaluated a new measure, the Cyber Motivations for Aggression and Deviance (Cyber-MAD) scale, designed to assess the motivations of adult cyber-aggression. Psychometric properties and factor structure were examined across three adult samples who regularly used the internet and reported a history of cyber-aggression. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of the motivations for cyber-aggression indicated an eight-factor model best fit the data, with separable factors emerging for cyber-aggression motivated by a desire to affiliate with others ( Social Bonding), advance or defend political/social issues ( Social Activism), act on angry feelings ( Reactive Aggression), cope with relationship stress ( Interpersonal Distress), satisfy impulsive urges ( Impulsivity), adopt a new online persona ( Virtual Dissociation), experience excitement ( Thrill-Seeking), and seek revenge ( Vengeance). Overall, the Cyber-MAD scale showed good internal consistency, structural stability across samples, and construct validity, supporting its initial validation.

Rapid individual cognitive phenotyping holds the potential to revolutionize domains as wide-ranging as personalized learning, employment practices, and precision psychiatry. Going beyond limitations imposed by traditional lab-based experiments, new efforts have been underway towards greater ecological validity and participant diversity to capture the full range of individual differences in cognitive abilities and behaviors across the general population. Building on this, we developed Skill Lab, a novel game-based tool that simultaneously assesses a broad suite of cognitive abilities while providing an engaging narrative. Skill Lab consists of six mini-games as well as 14 established cognitive ability tasks. Using a popular citizen science platform (N = 10725), we conducted a comprehensive validation in the wild of a game-based cognitive assessment suite. Based on the game and validation task data, we constructed reliable models to simultaneously predict eight cognitive abilities based on the users' in-game behavior. Follow-'-up validation tests revealed that the models can discriminate nuances contained within each separate cognitive ability as well as capture a shared main factor of generalized cognitive ability. Our game-based measures are five times faster to complete than the equivalent task-based measures and replicate previous findings on the decline of certain cognitive abilities with age in our large cross-sectional population sample (N = 6369). Taken together, our results demonstrate the feasibility of rapid in-the-wild systematic assessment of cognitive abilities as a promising first step towards population-scale benchmarking and individualized mental health diagnostics., 24 pages, 8 figures, and 4 tables. Following the highly pervasive and effective use of agile methods at the team level, many software organisations now wish to replicate this success at the organisational level, adopting large-scale agile methods such as SAFe, Scrum-at-Scale, and others. However, this has proven significantly challenging. An analysis of the extant literature reveals a disparate set of studies across each individual method, with no cross-method comparison based on empirical evidence. This systematic literature review compares the main large-scale agile methods, namely SAFe, LeSS, Scrum-at-Scale, DAD, and the Spotify model. It is the first study to analyse and compare each of the method's principles, practices, tools, and metrics in a standardised manner. For each method, it presents not just the original method specifications but also all extensions and modifications to each method proposed by subsequent empirical research. It includes in this comparison not just commercial large-scale methods but also those that have been custom-built in organisations such as Nokia, Ericsson, and others. Based on the findings reported in this study, practitioners can make a more informed decision as to which commercial method or method component or, indeed, custom-built method is better suited to their needs. Our study reveals a number of theoretical and practical issues in the current literature, such as an emphasis on the practices of commercial frameworks at the expense of their underlying principles, or indeed any of the custom method. A set of challenges and success factors associated with the use of large-scale agile methods are identified. The study also identifies a number of research gaps to be addressed across methods.

Background The perceived service quality scale (pSQS) is a patient-reported experience measure (PREM) previously developed for measuring perceived service quality (pSQ) in community pharmacies. While measuring pSQ is feasible, further psychometric evaluation of the pSQS is warranted. In addition, the length of the 20-item pSQS may lead to fatigue among patients. It remains to be determined whether a short form of the pSQS has acceptable psychometric properties. Objectives The aim of this study was to psychometrically test the pSQS with a specific focus on making scoring recommendations and developing a short form pSQS with acceptable psychometric properties. Methods Participants were recruited either in community pharmacies or via an online panel to complete a questionnaire including the pSQS. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were conducted using robust statistics, including tests of factorial invariance. Alternative models were tested including a bifactor model. Spearman's correlation was used to conduct test-retest analyses on responses obtained one month apart. Results Data were analysed from 319 participants recruited in-store and 303 participants recruited online, 86 participants providing test-retest reliability. Tests of factorial invariance indicated that the pSQS is stable across settings. The most parsimonious and best-fitting solution was obtained with a 19-item bifactor model with 5 factors plus a “general” factor. Factor scores obtained from the “general” factor explained sufficient variance and are unlikely to be excessively biased in regression models. A short-form 6-item scale (pSQ-SF6) demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties and similar predictive capacity to the original pSQS for patient loyalty intentions. Test-retest analyses indicated acceptable reliability for pSQS and PSQ-SF6. Conclusion This study confirms that the pSQS has acceptable psychometric properties including temporal stability. It is recommended that a 19-item pSQS be used to obtain a comprehensive overview of patients’ pSQ. The short-form pSQ-SF6 is suitable as a community pharmacy PREM.

With the surge of COVID-19 cases worldwide, vaccines against COVID-19 are also developing across the countries. However, the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination among general people is questionable. The availability of several vaccines' options against COVID-19 has perplexed people regarding individual vaccines' efficacy and safety. Therefore, we aim to determine the acceptance, preferences, impact factors of future COVID-19 vaccines in Malaysia and the factors influencing the COVID-19 vaccination acceptance among vaccine demand and vaccine delay groups.An online-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among Malaysian residents 18 years and above of either gender using the snowball sampling technique. A self-administered questionnaire was made available to participants through various social media networks, email, and telegram. The data obtained from the survey were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. Association between background characteristics and respondents were analyzed using the Chi-square test in the vaccine delay group and vaccine acceptance group.Total of 1282 responses were considered for the study, mainly from male respondents (71%). Among the respondents, 95.9% thought that vaccination would be an effective way to prevent and control COVID-19, and 96% would accept vaccination if the COVID-19 vaccine were successfully developed and approved for listing in the future. Essential factors influencing vaccination decisions were vaccine convenience (95.7%) and doctor's recommendation (97.3%). Bivariate analysis revealed that age less than 24 years, Malay race, living in urban areas, tertiary education, students, single marital status, family income (Malaysian ringgits) RM 4,850 to RM 10,959 andRM 10,960 were significantly associated with vaccine acceptance of COVID19 vaccination.All the factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine acceptance rates throughout the country should be studied on a larger scale, and appropriate steps to ensure vaccine acceptance among the public should be meticulously devised by the government and related authorities.Con el aumento de casos de COVID-19 en todo el mundo, las vacunas contra la COVID-19 también están en desarrollo en todos los países. Background: The updated Lymphedema Life Impact Scale (LLIS, version 2) has been widely used to evaluate the effect of lymphedema from the patient's perspective. We sought to assess its ability to accurately and efficiently measure lymphedema-related impact using modern psychometric techniques. Methods and Results: We collected a total of 1054 patient-reported outcome measure scores from 285 patients with upper extremity lymphedema and 65 patients with lower extremity lymphedema between 2016 and 2020. Objective To develop an insight scale for Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a genetically determined neurodevelopmental disorder with different psychopathological and behavioural problems. Methodology A sample of 36 PWS patients (58.3% women) attended at the Endocrinological Department of the Corporacio Sanitaria Parc Tauli (Sabadell, Barcelona) was evaluated. Insight was assessed by means of an adapted version of the Scale of Unawareness of Mental Disorder (SUMD), including three general insight dimensions: awareness of having a PWS, awareness of the effects of psychopharmacological medication and awareness of the social consequences, as well as three items that assess awareness of each particular symptom of the disease (obesity/overweight, excessive appetite and excessive food intake). Results The final Scale included six items and demonstrated an adequate internal consistency (Cronbach Alfa of 0.857 for Caregivers and 0.798 for Clinicians) but a high inter-rate variability. External validation using an Analytical-Visual Insight Scale was adequate. Conclusions The Adapted version for Prader-Willi patients of the Scale of Unawareness of Mental Disorder (APW-SUD) showed adequate psychometric properties and it is an easy to administer means to assess insight in this population.

This paper considers issues relating to the identification and categorisation of interruptive acts for cross- cultural study, as revealed by the conflicting methodological requirements of a medium-scale project involving contrastive analysis of confrontational native speaker and non-native speaker talk in French and English. The paper opens with a brief introduction to the project, followed by a review of issues from the conflicting ends of corpus annotation and Conversation Analysis, the main locus of information about, and research into, sequential aspects of talk and interruptive phenomena. It then uses two examples from the project data for native English and French respectively to reveal and discuss tensions between diverging requirements in the categorisation of interruptive acts. It shows that, while categorising interruptive phenomena inevitably entails a degree of arbitrariness - minimised in either very large corpora or small scale situated analysis -, medium-size data are peculiarly vulnerable to issues of empirical validity, but that their function and the options they create to derive critical findings from the tensions between approaches make them an important tool for research, notably cross-cultural research.

Fifty-nine Japanese college students of English at two different proficiency levels were evaluated for their ability to produce a speech act of request in a spoken role play task. Learners’ production was analyzed quantitatively by rating performance on a six-point scale for overall appropriateness, as well as qualitatively by identifying the directness levels of the linguistic expressions used to produce requests. Results revealed a significant L2 proficiency influence on overall appropriateness, but only a marginal difference in the types of linguistic expressions used between the two proficiency groups. Moreover, grammatical and discourse control encoded in the rating scale seemed to have affected the quality of speech acts.

So far, the synergistic relationship between learning design and learning analytics and its impact on learners’ educational practices have been investigated. However, little work has been done to show how integrated learning design based on constructivism learning theory and learning analytics can affect learners’ engagement and self-regulation. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effect of the Constructivist Learning Design and Learning Analytics (CLDLA) Model on learners’ engagement and self-regulation. In this experimental study, 50 graduate students at Iranian’ Allameh Tabataba’i University were asked to participate in a Moodle course called “Teaching Skills” and fill out Agentic Engagement Scale and Self-Regulation Questionnaires in two steps as a pre-test and post-test measurements. Analysis of the data indicated that the CLDLA model has a positive impact on learners’ engagement and self-regulation. Based on the results, recommendations for further research and educational practices are suggested.

Grain is not only the basic living materials of urban and rural residents, but an important strategic resource related to the national security. Therefore, grain security is an important aspect of national security. Farmers' willingness to grow grain is the key factor to guarantee food security. Based on the structural equation model, the main factors that influence the farmers' willingness to grow grain were studied in this paper by investigating 486 dispersed farmers in six counties (cities, districts) of three prefecture-level cities in Shandong Province. The study indicated that aside from the difficulty of measuring the influence of personal characteristic factors, the national grain subsidy policies, grain price, grain planting scale, other farmers' production behaviors, and promotion of agricultural technology affected the farmers' willingness to grow grain in varying degrees. Further regional multi-group analyses demonstrated that the farmers' willingness to grow grain showed an increasing trend from east to west in Shandong Province. Additionally, grain subsidy policies and family characteristic factors had obvious regional differences on the farmers' willingness to grow grain. Therefore, optimizing and improving the national grain subsidy policies, encouraging the management of a moderate scale, stabilizing prices of grain, increasing the propaganda of agricultural information and promoting agricultural technology were the key factors to increase the farmers' willingness to grow grain.

Introduction Much attention has been given to the microbiological aspect, drug treatment, and clinical indicators of MDR-TB, but patients' QOL has remained a neglected area. In this study, we aimed to find the quality of MDRTB on various quality of life domains during the initiation of the MDR Treatment regimen. Materials & methods A cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 6 months at the Drug-Resistance Tuberculosis Management Centre (DR-TB Centre), of a tertiary care centre in the eastern Uttar pradesh, India. Patients with age >18 years diagnosed with MDR-TB (Multidrug resistance TB) were included in the study. The WHO QOL-BREF scale was used to assess the health-related quality of life of patients. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21. The institutional ethical review committee approved the study, and consent was taken before the participation of patients. Results A total of 157 patients were included in the study & 45.85% were dissatisfied with their condition. Social domain of WHO QOL-BREF is having the lowest mean score (28.51 ± 15.4) while psychological has high mean values (39.92 ± 6.91). There was a significant difference in the physical health domain with respect to age (p-value 0.001). Similar differences have been seen in the psychological domain regarding patient sex (p-value 0.001), smoking and alcohol within the social domain, and loss of income in the environmental domain. Conclusion The mean value of different domains of WHO QOL-BREF is low in MDR-TB patients, with social relation domain being the most affected.

Hydrogen is gaining increased attention from industries and policymakers in China. However, most of the current demonstration projects in the country have relied on conventional energy sources, including industrial byproduct hydrogen and grey hydrogen produced from fossil fuels. Moreover, strategies and policy frameworks leading to a shift to green or low-carbon hydrogen have neither been explored in-depth nor been identified clearly in the context of China. This study aims at bridging such gaps. Roadmapping techniques enhanced by the Delphi method and SWOT analysis are used to survey hydrogen energy experts from government bodies, industries, and academia to achieve basic agreement on strategically enabling large-scale green hydrogen demonstrations followed by commercialisation in China. The outcome of two rounds of surveys showed that experts' opinions converged on a strategic roadmap with three stages of development. The corresponding policies needed in each stage are evaluated and selected to form a systemic framework.

Abstract. The Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale for Children and Adolescents (LSAS-CA) is a valid and reliable clinician-administered measure of social anxiety symptoms in young people. It has been adapted for self-report completion, and although the psychometric properties of this version of the scale have been examined in Spanish, Hebrew, and French language versions, this has not yet been done for the English language version. In the present study, we examined the factor structure and psychometric properties of the self-report version of the scale (LSAS-CA-SR) in a sample of UK adolescents recruited from schools. The factor structure of the scale was determined in our sample of N = 829; a four-factor structure, with interaction anxiety, interaction avoidance, performance anxiety, and performance-avoidance subscales, provided the best fit to the data. Measurement invariance of the scale was demonstrated across age and gender. Psychometric properties of the scale were sound, with good internal consistency (.88–.97), acceptable test-retest reliability (.45–.57), and evidence for convergent and divergent validity.

Background People experiencing homelessness (PEH) live with a high burden of chronic illness, functional and cognitive impairments, and serious mental illness. Many PEH are prescribed complex medication regimens to manage symptoms and improve health and functioning. However, medication use within the context of homelessness is complicated, and adherence is often suboptimal. Objective To document medication use within the context of homelessness and explore experiences of medication use among people experiencing homelessness (PEH). Methods This study used mixed methods including photo-elicitation interviews. Participants were given a digital camera and asked to take pictures of people, places, things, and situations that represented every day medication use. Participants were also asked to write down reasons for taking the pictures. After two weeks, participants returned the camera and notes. At a subsequent interview, the photographs and notes were reviewed and discussed. Demographic and health-related information was also collected for each participant. An interpretive description approach was used for qualitative data analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in order to describe the sample. Results Seven PEH completed this study. Mean age was 45 years (SD = 11.3) and length of homelessness was 6.1 years (SD = 11.3). All reported multiple chronic conditions (≥2) and reported taking 6.6 (SD = 2.6) medications. Participants reported medication adherence barriers with mean score of 37 (SD = 5.5) on the ASK-12, a 12-item scale with a range of 12–60 (higher scores indicate more barriers). Qualitative analysis identified four categories: medication-related burdens, medication-related beliefs, connectedness, and stigmatizing encounters. Conclusions Medication use among PEH is complex and cannot be considered separately from daily life or from struggles to meet basic needs. Multi-level interventions are needed to optimize medication use among PEH, and healthcare professionals including community pharmacists should reinforce beliefs that medication-related benefits outweigh the burdens and then tailor services to the context of homelessness.

As the public use of virtual reality (VR) scales, understanding how users engage across various sources of VR content is critical. 360-video is popular due to its ease of both creation and access. There are, however, few studies of 360-videos, and they suffer from three limitations. First, most studies rely on small and homogeneous samples of participants. Second, they tend to examine only a single 360-video, or a handful of them in a few exceptional cases. Third, very few studies trace participants' VR use over multiple experiences. The current study examined a large sample of participants (511) and a large set of 360-videos (80). Each participant experienced 5 of the videos, and we tracked head movement in addition to self-report data on presence, arousal, simulator sickness, and future use intention for each video. This design allowed us to answer novel questions relating to individual differences of participants and changes in experience over time, and in general to present results of VR use at a scale not seen before in the literature. Moreover, the results suggest that looking at patterns across stimuli provide unique insights which are missed when looking only within a single piece of content.

Background Discrimination occurs in health care settings contributing to health inequities. Yet guidance on how best to measure discrimination in health care is still limited. Objectives We sought to (1) identify and describe the characteristics of published studies that used the Discrimination in Health Care Measure, a scale first published in 2001; (2) review how the measure has been used or adapted and summarize the measure’s published psychometric properties and its variations; and (3) summarize associations between the measure and health-related variables. Methods We performed a systematic search and review of the measure by searching PsycINFO, PubMed, Sociological Abstracts, and Web of Science from January 1, 2001 through January 31, 2017. We screened 260 unique articles, identified 22 eligible articles, and completed a narrative synthesis. Results Most studies measured race or ethnicity-based discrimination. All studies made minor revisions to the measure, and most reported high reliabilities. Discrimination in health care, using this measure, was associated with adverse health outcomes. Discussion and practice implications Study results indicate that the measure is easy to use and adapt. Researchers should consider using the Discrimination in Health Care Measure when designing studies that will examine individuals’ discriminatory experiences when receiving health care.

Social network large-scale decision-making (SN-LSDM) has attracted much attention in the field of decision science. Clustering and consensus building are two important processes for solving SN-LSDM problems. Traditional clustering methods are typically based on the opinion similarity. When extending decision-making to social network contexts, we argue that trust relationships among decision-makers (DMs) serve as a reliable resource for clustering. This study proposes a trust Cop-Kmeans clustering algorithm, which is a semi-supervised clustering technique using prior knowledge of trust constraints generated by trust relationships. The consensus-reaching process (CRP) is an effective tool for reducing differences of opinion. In general, the costs and resources associated with the CRP are limited. Therefore, minimum-cost consensus (MCC) models have been developed and used widely in various group decision-making contexts. As an important resource influencing decision-making, trust provides a common-sense perception that the opinion of a DM with a high trust degree is considered to be widely recognized by others. We hold that the DM with high trust and low consensus can reduce the consensus cost by voluntarily losing some trust. Consequently, an improved MCC model considering voluntary trust loss is developed. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed clustering algorithm and consensus model. A comparative analysis is implemented to explore the influence of the trust constraint on clustering and the influence of trust loss on the CRP.

Using a comprehensive primary dataset collected from 3680 farmers in certain districts of China and a long-time panel dataset of 31 of China's provinces from 2000 to 2012, an empirically analyzed work is presented in this paper on the impact of farm size on agricultural technology progress from both micro and macro perspectives. A Multivariate Probit Model was built to analyze and clarify the micro basis on which farm size affects technology progress. The impact of farm size on farmers' willingness to adopt new technologies, their technical preference, and their behaviors to acquire agricultural knowledge was tested by model estimation. The influence of farmers’ average scale on agricultural technology progress in most regions was estimated by using fixed-effect and random-effect models. The progress of technology was measured by the technology progressing rate (TPR), which is calculated by the trans-log stochastic frontier function. The results show that farmers with larger farms are more willing to adopt new technologies, spend more time and money in the pursuit of agricultural knowledge, and pay more attention to productive technology rather than processing technology. From the regional analysis, it seems the regions with larger farms have a much higher technology progress rate overall, and while the effect varies depending on scale, there are remarkably positive impacts in large-farm regions, slightly negative impacts in medium-sized farm regions, and notable negative impact in small-farm regions.

Abstract. Humor training has become increasingly popular to enhance the “sense of humor” and well-being and to decrease depressive symptoms. Despite the wide applications of these training programs, the assessment of training efficacy has attracted less attention. The Sense of Humor Scale (SHS; McGhee, 1996 , 1999 ) recently was expanded to a long version (SHS-L) to enhance its internal consistency ( Ruch & Heintz, 2018 ). At the same time, there is also the need for a brief version of this scale. The purpose of the present study is to develop a short version (SHS-S) in both German- and English-speaking countries, test its psychometric properties (internal consistency, factorial, construct, and criterion validity), and assess measurement invariance across gender and the two languages. Using three samples (Sample 1: 570 English-speakers, Sample 2: 353 German-speakers, Sample 3: 94 other-reports), the 29-item SHS-S was developed and yielded promising internal consistency and validity scores for the six humor skill factors of enjoyment of humor, laughter, verbal humor, finding humor in everyday life, laughing at yourself, and humor under stress. Overall, the SHS-S is an internally consistent, valid, and economic tool for future research and group-based applications, while the SHS-L seems especially useful in individual applications.

This study aimed to develop and assess the effectiveness of an encounter decision aid for Malaysian patients with MDD to support treatment decision-making during the consultation.The decision aid prototype was developed following a literature review and six focus groups. Alpha testing assessed its comprehensibility, acceptability, usability and desirability through user-centered cognitive interviews. Beta-testing evaluated preliminary evidence on its efficacy using the SDM Scale and PDMS. Feasibility was assessed by timing the consultation.The alpha testing demonstrated that the decision aid was patient-oriented, comprehensible, comprehensive, concise and objective with an appealing design. Beta-testing indicated that PtDA significantly increased patients satisfaction with SDM from patients' [83.32 (13.92) vs 85.76 (13.80); p 0.05] and physicians' [81.07 (10.09) vs 86.36 (10.10); p 0.05] perspectives and prepared the patients for decision making from the patients' [PDMS patients: 84.10 (12.69)] and physicians' [PDMS physicians: 83.78 (16.62)] perspectives as well. There was no change in the consultation time between the control and the intervention groups.We developed an antidepressant PtDA for Malaysian patients with MDD that increases patients' involvement in shared decision making and enhances their preparedness for decision making.Using the PtDA can support collaborative decision-making in routine clinical practice without extending the consultation time.

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive therapy (CT) skills are an index of treatment progress. They predict changes in patients’ acute depressive symptoms and symptom relapses. However, the psychometric properties of the various measures of CT skills are poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the factor structure of the Competencies of Cognitive Therapy Scale–Self Report (CCTS-SR) and assess its concurrent validity. METHODS: The psychometric properties of the CCTS-SR were explored by using data from a panel of online respondents (N=410). The fit of a one-factor solution was explored by using a confirmatory factor analysis. Exploratory bifactor analyses (EBFA) were then conducted to determine other possible factor structures. RESULTS: The one-factor solution did not fit the data well. Results of the EBFA suggested that the factor structure of the CCTS-SR may be characterized by a single underlying dimension capturing the general use of CT skills as well as by more specific factors the authors labeled “behavioral activation” and “CT comprehension.” The variance captured by the factor initially labeled as CT comprehension was correlated with measures of depression and emotional dysregulation, suggesting that these items do not capture CT comprehension and should be removed from the scale. CONCLUSIONS: The CCTS-SR seems to be characterized by more than a single factor, and items that seemingly compose CT comprehension (i.e., items 13 and 14) may need to be removed. Although the CCTS-SR may be a valid index of therapy progress, more attention needs to be paid to its psychometric properties.
