Many primary education programs, including the updated educational program in Kazakhstan, involve the creation and implementation of thematic units to prepare younger students for research activities. This approach is reflected in the integrated method of teaching and learning in primary classes. However, in cases where the research-based pedagogical approach is not used, it has become an urgent problem because it cannot meet the interest of students. Therefore, this article intends to study theoretical works on the preparation of primary school students for research, conduct experimental work on a small experimental site, and consider specific results. In theoretical terms, such works as content analysis, synthesis, generalization, survey, and diagnostics were organized. Analyzing the experimental work on the stages of identification and formation. In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the encounters and disagreements from the students' perspective on expectations, access conditions, connectivity, management of technological tools are analyzed. After 20 years of the Bologna Declaration, Portuguese universities claim to be implementing student-centred and involved assessment practices. Student conceptions of assessment matter when innovations and reforms in assessment practices are being implemented. This study is part of a larger research project entitled "Assessment in higher education: the potential of alternative methods" funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (Government Funding Agency) (PTDC/MHCCED/2703/2014). This paper surveys a large sample (N = 5549) of Portuguese students in five public universities with a Portuguese version of the Students Conceptions of Assessment (SCoA-VI) inventory, previously validated in Brazil. Confirmatory factor analysis recovered the eight SCoA factors reported in the Brazilian context. Differences in mean score for the eight factors were trivial for institutional and student factors. Overall, students agreed that assessment for student improvement was not ignored. Scale inter-correlations revealed interesting inverse relations between improvement and irrelevance functions. Although other authors have recently spotlighted the research-practice gap in management, we suggest the role of teaching in eliminating this fissure has been neglected. We examine the research-teaching gap in management by exploring how research can inform our teaching and how teaching can enlighten our research. We also advance practical implications for addressing the research-teaching gap in our field. Ultimately, we believe a tighter link between research and teaching is critical to enhancing student learning about the value of research and to giving them—our future managers—the skills they will need to be lifelong consumers of management research. The paper presented here is an abridged and adapted version of an article by Pierre Berthon, Agnes Nairn and Arthur Money which appeared in Marketing Education Review, 13, 2 (Summer) 2003. The objective of the paper in the IJMR now is to encourage practitioners and academics alike to build their own research on the foundations which have already been build by previous thinkers. We hope to demonstrate that a good literature review goes well beyond a cursory acknowledgement of other authors who have worked in the area and we present the 'paradigm funnel' as a tool which can be used to this end. We demonstrate how it can be used to go beyond simply listing a series of past studies to move towards the production of a structured analysis of a total body of research which can generate enlightened research thinking. In this paper the paradigm funnel is used to structure a historic body of research on Market Segmentation. Since the publication of the original paper the paradigm funnel has also been used to analyse Brand Management literature in an award winning thesis by Heding and Knudtzen (2006). The author believes that papers in graduate classes are too often celebrated for their methods but some papers are interesting because their methods are so different from the ubiquitous secondary data sets, attitude surveys, and interviews of top managers that provide most of the grist in the field. He finds methods that get close enough to behavior to show how people wittingly or unwittingly build and maintain their social worlds of particular interest.

At tlie age when tlie mental processes involved in learning and tlie interest of students are at a high level of development, tlie school must find tlie opportunities and paths that are best suited for making their effective covering in practice. Teen-agers broaden their sphere of interest, explore tlie cognitive and practical skills, feel tlie need to engage in novel and valuable projects, and - in this respect - science lessons represent opportunities to manifest their abilities. The classical approach -in which there is little emphasis on making experiments, and tlie creation of contexts from which tlie student discovers, investigates, seeks solutions -, does not correspond to tlie cognitive, affective and motivational profile of nowadays students. Students do not like a passive role, they want to be actively involved in tlie process of knowledge, to initiate demarches, to be leaders and to be free to practice their creativity and inventiveness. Science disciplines should not be seen like abstracting of contents - far from the students' knowledge interests - but should give them the opportunity to intervene directly in experiments, independently, stimulating in this way their desire to search and to seek answers. When academic students are introduced to scientific work, they need to become familiar with how to select a research topic, to identify research goals, and to structure a research project accordingly. In Business Informatics, research practice is increasingly following a design science approach. In this contribution, we introduce a corresponding digital support scheme. It is based on cognitive apprenticeship and scaffolding to specify the research questions and derive requirements from a problem statement for possible solutions. Learners are supported in a socio-cognitive way, as the set of digital learning-support features comprises peer-to-peer interactions, content co-construction, and a portfolio-like documentation scheme. Context-sensitive (focused) interaction and organizing group work facilitate content co-creation and effective information sharing. This case study reports on the information literacy component of a pilot first-yearexperience course, U1X, at Concordia University. Based on the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, the information literacy component of U1X was designed to encourage self-direction. Through exploring the university's larger research mission, the module aimed to shift the emphasis from "how to do research correctly" to viewing research as a personal endeavour in which the researcher cultivates the skills necessary to make a meaningful contribution. It encouraged students to reflect on what they could contribute and the skills they would need to do so. The design of this module aligned with the U1X syllabus, which included as learning outcomes that students gain an understanding "of the University's research mission at its highest level" and "of the relationship between research and citizenship." The article discusses and explains a systematic approach to the representation and analysis of events which occur in physical education classes. This approach is known as mapping. The basic ideas behind mapping are explained in this article; as is the observational process which is used in the research.The article also describes how mapping procedures are used in research such as this and uses an actual physical education class to illustrate how mapping is conducted.The article also analyzes the results which come from the use of mapping in this class.The article concludes that mapping itself is effective in terms of allowing researchers to find clear results but notes that it might not be as effective as it could be since it only observes behavior and does not participants' perspectives in its conclusions.

In this article, the author reflects upon his experiences leading a project to create a quilt with students that was inspired by the geography of East Texas. Here is an explanation of the case and frame pedagogy that I use to teach case study composition. It is a 'how-to' type teaching resource that describes a general outline of my work with students, and it is a 'why' I think it is important to teach the case study. I use an example from my class to show how I take case material from its beginning stages and help a writer to craft her case study as a project in self-reflexivity and narrative with interdisciplinary theoretical frameworks. The aim of this study was to analyze the university students' self-efficacy for learning how to conduct research and how these ideas interact with their conceptions about research. The sample was made up of 1,304 students from Universidad Técnica de Machala, Ecuador. A questionnaire about self-efficacy for learning how to conduct research was applied to these students. The results of this study show that the ideas of self-efficacy are being formed. Students see research as a requirement for continuing their professional career; therefore, it is from that idea that research is conceived more as product than as a process. There exists a relative interest and confidence in conducting research. As a result, it has been determined that ideas of efficacy in the linear model do not change the research notions that university students have. In this paper, we analyze whether structured PhD programs operate at optimal size and whether there are differences between different disciplinary fields. Theoretically, we postulate that the relation between the size of a PhD program and program performance is hump shaped. For our empirical analysis, we use hand-collected data on 86 Research Training Groups (RTGs) funded by the German Research Foundation ( DFG). As performance indicators, we use (a) the number of completed PhDs and (b) the number of publications by RTG students (PhD students and postdoctoral researchers). Applying DEA with constant and variable returns to scale, we find that the optimal team size varies between 10 and 16 RTG students in the humanities and social sciences. In contrast, our empirical analysis does not uncover a systematic relation between size and performance for RTGs in the natural and life sciences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article considers what might be taught to meet a widely held curriculum aim of students being able to understand research in a discipline. Expertise, which may appear as a 'chain of practice', is widely held to be underpinned by networks of understanding. Scientific research expertise is considered from this perspective. Within scientific disciplines, how research is conducted to solve different problems varies with concomitant effects on the validity of the data and the strengths of the claims made. Despite this variation, the overarching concepts of validity and reliability and the underpinning and interrelated network of more specific 'concepts of evidence' are applicable to understanding a wide range of research designs and the uncertainties in the resultant data and claims. These constituent ideas, which inter alia have been validated as relevant to professional and academic expertise, form an integrated knowledge base about evidence which can be visualised on a concept map. The network of ideas underpinning research expertise across scientific disciplines is outlined. This study explored information seeking anxiety among 31 Pakistani university research students using the critical incident technique. Face to face interviews were conducted for data collection by visiting the participants in their departments. The results indicated that information seeking anxiety among Pakistani research students manifested in eight dimensions, namely: (a) procedural anxiety, (b) information overload, (c) resource anxiety, (d) library anxiety, (e) competence anxiety, (f) ICT anxiety, (g) language anxiety, and (h) thematic anxiety. These participants also exhibited certain avoidance behaviours, search avoidance, task avoidance, and even research avoidance, along with inferiority complex. The results provided useful insights that could be used as a guide by information professionals, especially those engaged in managing information literacy instruction. This article explores the notion of students as partners in the development of a research-engaged teaching and learning project. Based on the premise that dialogue could form a bridge between students, artists and academics, the Dialogues project was first established in 2010 and has subsequently enabled a meaningful and sustainable partnership between staff and students to develop. Dialogues 2014: Place, Space and Negotiated Territories was the fifth iteration in a series of annual interdisciplinary Fine Art symposia, developed through an innovative partnership between undergraduate and postgraduate Fine Art students and staff at the Norwich University of the Arts (United Kingdom). In this study, two multidisciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities research schools in Sweden have been investigated regarding disciplinary identity-making. This study investigates the meetings between different disciplines around a common thematic area of study for Ph.D. students. The Ph.D. students navigate through a complex social and organisational landscape with obligations and loyalties towards the discipline and the research school, which may be in conflict with each other. The main finding is that a multidisciplinary environment in fact creates strong disciplinary identities, partly in contrast to the purpose with the multidisciplinary research school. Encounters with Ph.D. students from other disciplines give the Ph.D. student something to relate to and to discuss e.g. with the supervisor. Another finding is that multidisciplinary research schools extend the perspectives of students. Since 2000, the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) has offered summer research internships at its Florida Agricultural Experiment Station to encourage undergraduate students to engage in science-focused education and pursue STEM-focused careers. The internships have provided students an opportunity to acquire hands-on research experience while working one-on-one with faculty members conducting research across a variety of disciplines. The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of the research internship by examining the research skills students developed and the career trajectories they chose. When comparing reported research-related skill levels before and after participating in the internship there were statistically significant (p ≤ .01) positive changes in all 19 indicators of research skills. The two highest areas of gain were practical skills for conducting research and knowledge of the important literature in their field. Other key skills acquired were those related to critical and logical thinking and the ability to synthesize information. In addition, 64% of the respondents attended graduate school and 69% reported they were currently working in a science-related field. Results of the study demonstrated that hands-on research experiences at the undergraduate level improved the participants' self-reported research-related skillset. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
