Abstract

The article discusses and explains a systematic approach to the representation and analysis of events which occur in physical education classes. This approach is known as mapping. The basic ideas behind mapping are explained in this article; as is the observational process which is used in the research. The article also describes how mapping procedures are used in research such as this and uses an actual physical education class to illustrate how mapping is conducted. The article also analyzes the results which come from the use of mapping in this class. The article concludes that mapping itself is effective in terms of allowing researchers to find clear results but notes that it might not be as effective as it could be since it only observes behavior and does not participants' perspectives in its conclusions.
