This paper studies the ten novels which constitute Benito Pérez Galdós' second series of Episodios nacionales in light of the historical and literary studies related to the exile of liberals, an aspect of the series not yet addressed by literary criticism. The main character of the series, the conspirator Salvador Monsalud, is analysed on one hand through reconstructions of his adventures during his life as an émigré by means of analepsis, summaries, and the testimonies of other characters; and on the other by studying the evolution of the hero. This leads us to conclude that Galdós used the experience of the exile as a substantial element in the evolution of the character, and that he relied mainly on the writings of Mariano José de Larra, as a Spanish romantic who had first-hand knowledge of European liberalism, and the work of José de Espronceda and Ángel de Saavedra, the Duque de Rivas, to reveal the romantic profile of Galdós's hero. A bibliometric analysis of 31,403 publications in Current Science between 1961 and 2015 revealed an unstable trend; the highest citations per publication appeared during 2003-2005. The impact factor of Current Science had an overall increasing trend and placed the journal in the quartile Q2 within 'Multidisciplinary sciences' category. The h-index of Current Science was 82 and 24 authors had more than one H-Classic articles. The most productive country was India and Current Science was dominated by contributions from Indian institutions. Analysis of author keywords showed 11 main research themes for the journal. As university libraries transition to digital collections and new services, their book deselection projects often lead to the adoption of cross-discipline quantitative weeding criteria (such as age and low circulation) in the interest of speed and presumed fairness. Cross-discipline quantitative rubrics, however, can have unintended negative consequences when applied to disciplines such as history and literature that rely on older books with low circulation statistics. The authors argue for a discipline-differentiated approach to weeding academic library collections that can employ quantitative criteria for disciplines, such as in the sciences, that are more reliant on current materials and qualitative criteria for disciplines, such as in the humanities, whose scholars benefit from ready access to older and low-use books. The study compared the characteristics of academic and nonacademic serials with title changes, from which it was determined that the two serial subpopulations were similar in the six broad reasons found for a title change but differed in the kinds and proportions of subject and function changes that occurred when a title changed. On the basis of the findings, two alternate RDA rule revision proposals are made (labeled Ideal versus Practical), the first requiring a new access point for a title change only when a significant subject or function change has occurred, and the second requiring a new access point only when the publisher has indicated the start of a totally new serial. It is further recommended that reasons for title changes be determined from statements in the serial or directly from the editor or publisher rather than from word changes in the title. As library user needs become increasingly nuanced and technical, the lack of adequate metadata to meet user needs is creating a broadening gulf between library catalog functionality and library user expectations. One of the areas where the dearth of metadata is forming barriers is the idea of "series." While traditional bibliographic definitions of "series" have been adequate to meet user needs in the past, their inability to fully encompass more complex media types beyond simple text is forming barriers against the accessibility of non-traditional formats such as video games, artistic works, datasets, and similar information resources. This article explores the concept of "series" both as it is employed in bibliographic cataloging settings and encompasses actual works. The authors review the term's usage and general meaning across a large variety of media types beyond traditional journals and monographs. Examples are developed as counter-examples to the adequacy of the traditional bibliographic view of series. The authors conclude that the library and information science community as a whole needs to engage in a broader discussion of series cataloging practices and suggest alternate accounts of series that view them as aggregations (like collections) or as containers for intellectual content. They are developing standards and protocols to facilitate more seamless communication of accurate information. Based on publication data (Web of Science, Thomson Reuters) of 280 applicants (medicine and biology, application years 2000-6) to the Emmy Noether Programme for young scientists provided by the German Research Foundation (DFG), this study investigates the relationship between publication performance in the periods preceding/subsequent to the funding decision and the funding decision itself. This is achieved by calculating a path model in which 'subsequent publication performance' serves as outcome variable, 'past performance' as an exogenous variable, and 'funding decision' as a mediator or treatment variable. Thereaders of the Zuckerman books by Philip Roth are required quite a generous degree of activity in order to make the series appear completely coherent. Difficulties come from the fact that this is a nine-book project, which took Roth twenty-seven years to complete, a period when these books were interspersed with others. Also from the fact that the project contains such a variety of configurations and patterns, as over the years the treatment of the character Nathan Zuckerman (the main coherence device) has shifted dramatically, being used to serve a variety of purposes.
