Strategies to increase the population and productivity of beef cattle can be implemented through reproductive management, such as artificial insemination (AI) using frozen semen. This study aims to evaluate the characteristics of frozen semen of Limousin bulls of different ages, which can still be used for insemination programs up to 12 years of age. This study used frozen semen of Limousin bulls ages 3, 8, and 12 years produced in 2021 at the Artificial Insemination Center in Singosari, East Java Province, Indonesia. Five bulls from each different age group were used for replication. Computer-assisted sperm analysis was used to determine sperm motility, viability, and abnormalities using eosin–nigrosine staining. Plasma membrane integrity was analyzed using the hypoosmotic swelling test. The acrosomes’ integrity was evaluated using FITC-PNA-PI, protamine deficiency using chromomycin A3, and DNA fragmentation testing using the acridine orange fluorescent technique. The growth hormone receptor (GHR) gene is member of the class I cytokine receptor family that important in growth regulation including in cattle. This study aimed to analyze the association between GHR|AluI gene with body weight, parameters in Grati-PO cattle population. A total of 304 blood samples were collected from the experimental station at the Beef Cattle Research Station, which were also equipped with 304 phenotypic data. Heat stress has become more common in recent years, limiting wheat production in Huang-Huai-Hai plain in China. To identify the effect of long-term heat stress on wheat production, two heat-resistant (JM44, JM23) and two heat-sensitive (XM26, GC8901) wheat varieties were sown in heat tents and normal conditions, and heat stress (9 to 12℃ higher than control) was imposed for seven days at post-anthesis. All varieties under heat stress exhibited early senescence and reduced grain-filling rate, while the grain-filling period of heat-tolerant varieties was longer than that of the heat-sensitive. Furthermore, long-term heat stress significantly reduced kernel mass, grain number, harvest index, chlorophyll content, maximum quantum yield of PSⅡ photochemistry, effective quantum yield of PSⅡ photochemistry, photosynthetic rate, and transpiration efficiency. In addition, the distribution of dry matter to vegetative organs, catalase activity, and malondialdehyde content increased. These results indicated that the lesser yield reduction of heat-resistant varieties (11-26%) than that of heat-sensitive (16-37%) is due to relatively higher antioxidative and photosynthetic performance and higher assimilation in the grain from vegetative organs.

High level of phosphate in the aquatic environment can reduce the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water which is harmful to the preservation of aquatic ecosystems. However, ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) is available to adsorp tripolyphosphate (TPP). In this study, Fe (III)-chitosan-succinate-tripolyphosphate complex was synthesized with NN’-Methylene Bis-Acrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinking agent and gamma-ray as reaction initiator. The aim of the study is to observe the physical and chemical characteristics of radiation-induced crosslinking of IIP in the present of MBA. The results show that tripolyphosphate ion adsorption capacity on the Fe-chitosan-succinate-MBA ion-imprinted polymer improved by 75.62 % than that of the non-imprinted polymer.The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) analysis shows a significant difference in the endothermic, exothermic and glass transitions of chitosan, chitosan-succinate when compared to their complex salts. The Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) analysis shows the presence of tripolyphosphate groups bonded by Fe-Chitosan-succinate-MBA ion imprinted polymer. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis of IIP exhibits a significantly difference surface shapes between IIP with template still within the polymer matrix and after removal.

The F94L mutation of the MSTN gene (MSTN-F94L) is considered not to cause disrupted the function of the myostatin gene drastically. Interestingly, this mutation has a very significant effect on muscle mass, carcass, or meat yield and meat quality without any associated severe negative problems. This study aimed to confirm the MSTN-F94L mutation in four local cattle breeds in Indonesia. A total of 518 individuals (140 of Bali, 107 of Sumbawa, 168 of Pasundan, and 103 of Holstein-Friesian (H-F) cattle) were used in this study. Genotype identification was performed by PCR-RFLP method. In the present study showed that the wild-type C allele was fixed (1.000) in Bali, Sumbawa, and HF cattle. However, the wild-type C allele and the mutant A allele were found in Pasundan cattle, even though the frequency of the mutant A allele was very low (0.012). Therefore, in conclusion, the mutation of the MSTN-F94L was detected in Pasundan cattle but no in all three cattle breeds. However, the presence of the mutant A allele in Pasundan cattle allegedly derived from Limousin bulls. The further investigation in other local and exotic breeds and its crossing will answer the status of the MSTN-F94L mutation in local cattle breeds in Indonesia.

The pituitary transcription factor (Pit-1) gene is one of the considered genes that responsible to growth in cattle. A specific Pit-1|HinfI gene polymorphism located within exon 6(g.1256G>A) has been shown to be associated with growth and milk traits in cattle. This study aimed to identify the Pit-1|Hinf1 gene polymorphism in Grati-Ongole Grade cattle (Grati-OG cattle). A total of 107 genomic DNA of Grati-OG cattle were used in this study. The detection of polymorphism was performed by PCR-RFLP method. Only AB and BB genotypes were succesfully identified with the frequency of 0.009 and 0.991, respectively. Whereas, the frequency of A and B alleles were 0.005 and 0.995, respectively. The observed genotype frequencies in this population do not deviated from HWE. The value of Ho, He and PIC were 0.009, 0.009 and 0.009, respectively.In conclusion, the Pit-1|HinfI gene polymorphism in Grati-OG cattle is monomorphic and hence it should not be used in further association studies.

A study was conducted to identify the polymorphism in the intron 3 of the Growth Hormone (GH) gene and also to evaluate the association of the GH gene polymorphism with growth parameters and dressing percentage in the Sumba Ongole (SO) cattle. A total of 267 individual DNA samples were used in the Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis. The SO cattle growth parameters data (n=44) including birth weight (BW), weaning weight at 205 days of age (WW205), yearling weight at 365 days of age (YW365) and also dressing percentage (DP) (n=122) were investigated in this study. There were three genotypes (AA, AB, and BB) of the GH gene based on the PCR-RFLP analysis with allele frequency was 0.87 and 0.13 for A allele and B allele respectively. The highest genotype frequency in the SO cattle is AA (0.76) and the lowest is BB (0.02). The Heterozygosity Observed (Ho) value in the SO cattle population is 0.23 and Polymorphism Information Content (PIC) value is 0.20. Therefore, the genetic diversity in the SO cattle based on the GH gene polymorphism is quite low. There is no association (P>0.05) in BW, WW205, YW365, and DP with genotypes of the GH gene. As the result, the GH gene in this study cannot be used as a genetic marker in the SO cattle breeding program.

The g.422C>T nucleotide variations in the 5’ untranslated region (5’UTR) of TG gene (called as TG5) has been reported to be associated with level in intramuscular fat (IMF) content or marbling in beef cattle. The objective of this study was to confirm genetic polymorphism of TG5 gene in Bali cattle populations from three different regions as the main resources of Bali cattle in Indonesia. A total of 200 head of Bali cattle have been performed genotyping on TG5 gene using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment lenght polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method and sequence analysis. Results of the study confirmed that TG5 was monomorphic in Bali cattle wherever their origin regions. Moreover, nine candidate SNPs were detected within 5’UTR of TG gene in Bali cattle compared to Genbank reference sequences, although no SNP variations among Bali cattle sample studied. The new other genetic markers within an entire TG gene suggested to be explored and verified for their polymorphisms in Bali cattle. The nine candidate SNPs were also required further verification and validation in a larger sample to be regarded as new SNPs between Bali cattle and Genbank reference sequences.

Selection of livestock was purposed to increase productivity. A performance test was conducted using 25 males and 25 females of Sumba Ongole (SO) cattle. The performance test were conducted in three periods (2014, 2015 and 2016) for about 535 days. Descriptive statistics ws used to analyze data of body weight. Cattle with age between 300 to 600 days were used for evaluation. Result showed that heritability value of yearling weight (YW365) was 0.77+0.68 as a high category. The highest breeding value of YW365 were 66.05 kg (male) and 41.89 kg (female). The average of corrected final weight (CFW) weight were 172.55+34.22 kg (male) and 159.80+37.73 kg (female). The performance test in this study obtained six A class (1 bull and 5 cows) based on the standard minimum of body measurements for SO cattle.

Bovine growth hormone receptor (bGHR) gene was one of the growth hormone family genes that important for body growth and development of cattle. This research was carried out to identify the polymorphism in the exon 10 of bGHR gene from 142 heads of Pasundan cows at West Java and its association with body length (BL), withers height (WH), heart girth (HG), and body weight (BW). There are two mutation points in the bGHR gene based on the sequencing analysis i.e. g.3322del.A and g.3338A>G. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at g.3338A>G was detected using PCR-RFLP method with AluI restriction enzyme and showed three genotypes of AA (0.49), AG (0.37), and GG (0.14). The allelic frequencies were 0.67 (A) and 0.33 (G). The number of allele effective (ne) value was 1.79 and described that A allele was the higher allele in the bGHR gene in this study. The polymorphic informative content (PIC) value was 0.34 and categorized as a moderate category. The Imkanur rukyah criteria can be defined as the minimum limit in expecting the new moon’s visibility in determining the beginning of Hijri months. It has been used in the development of Hijri calendar in Malaysia since 1992. Based on the criteria, the new moon is considered visible if the altitude at sunset is at least 2° and the elongation between the moon and the sun is at least 3°, or at moonset, the age of the moon is at least 8 hours. The altitude limit of 2° and the elongation limit of 3° indeed were determined according to the data of new moon visibility observed in Indonesia, whereas for the 8-hour moon’s age, there is no written rule regarding to it. The use of the moon’s age criterion as an alternative to the geometric criteria can lead to confusion if both conditions provide different results. Therefore, this study was performed to assess the relevance of using moon’s age as an alternative in Imkanur rukyah criteria used in Malaysia. The study utilised the data of the sun and the moon’s positions, the time of sunset, the time of moonset and the time of conjunction (new moon). The data for the sun were calculated based on VSOP87 theory, while for the moon, using ELP2000-82b. Based on the analysis, in determining Hijri dates from 1996 to 2015, there are 22 discrepancies found between the moon’s age and the geometric criteria, in which, 5 of them occur in the month of Ramadan, Syawal and Zulhijjah. These conditions show that the moon’s age criterion is not always consistent with the geometric criteria. Therefore, the use of moon’s age as an alternate criterion in determining the beginning of Hijri month is considered irrelevant and should be further reviewed.

An estimation of most probable producing ability (MPPA) value based on the calves performance is very important for the cow selection. The birth data record of 48 Sumba Ongole (SO) cows and record data from 52 callf birth’s performance were used to estimate the value of MPPA. High of r value (r > 0.30) was obtained at the body length (BL). Birth weight (BW), withers high (WH) and chest girth (CG) had a moderate value (0.10 < r < 0.30) of repeatability. The MPPA value of the cumulative calf birth’s performance of cows based on the highest birth records was 4.64 (cow number 3770) and the lowest was -4.64 (cow number 2283). Calf number B2076 (cow number 3586) had the highest ratio of WH (115.70); BL (124.26); CG (118.90), while the highest ratio of BW (168.35) was obtained in calf number B2095 (cow number 3731). It was concluded that the BW of birth had a moderate value of r (0.10) and could be used as a selection criteria accurately.

A study was conducted to assess the genetic characterization of the Sumba Ongole (SO) cattlebased on DNA microsatellites and also to study the potency of SO cattle based on carcass productivity.Blood samples were collected from 28 individual cattle and 12 microsatellite primers as recommendedby FAO were used to identify the genetic characterization of the SO cattle population. Data of carcassproductivity were collected from 506 individual cattle that slaughtered in Karawaci abattoir, Banten,Indonesia. The heterozygosity values of microsatellite loci ranged from 0.143 to 1.000 (mean 0.536).The highest PIC values was 0.814 (locus TGLA122), while the lowest was 0.280 (locus BM1818).Cattle in range of 351-475 kg slaughter weight was most slaughtered in year 2013 and 2014 with carcasspercentage ranged from 52.89% to 53.43%. The highest carcass percentage (56.34%) was obtained fromcattle in range of 626-650 kg slaughter weight while the lowest (51.42%) was obtained from cattle inrange of 250-275 kg slaughter weight. The results of genetic characterization showed that allmicrosatellite locus were highly polymorphic and highly informative for detecting the level of geneticdiversity in the SO cattle population. The results of carcass productivity showed that the SO cattle hasexcellent potential as beef cattle compare with other local breeds cattle in Indonesia.

Samples of limestone composites were measured for hardness in 5 difference colors: black, darkblue, blue, light blue and white. Limestone was then ground and particle sizes of meal were measured.The meal were mixed with other locally available materials to produce 5 difference mineral formulas:P1: 100% limestone meal, P2: 50% limestone meal + 50% fresh water oyster shell meal, P3: 35%limestone meal + 30% fresh water oyster shell meal + 35% bone meal, P4: 35% limestone meal + 30%fresh water oyster shell meal + 34.2% bone meal + 0.5% salt + 0.3% micro minerals and P5: 100% freshwater oyster shell meal. The formulas were stored for 12 weeks. Samples were taken weekly foranalyzing of moisture content and physical properties. By a feeding trial the five mineral formulas weremixed in the level of 6 % into basal diet and fed to 150 laying hens for 24 weeks. Parameters measuredincluded body weight, feed intake, egg production and FCR. Results showed that the composites ofBukit Kamangs’ limestone had difference hardness. The strongest was found by the black composite of23.4 HRc-C or 245.0 BHN. The meal products contained large particles (>0.42 mm) of 17.8%. Moisturecontent of mineral formulas increased during storage, but their physical properties were no significantchanges. A feeding trial was conducted to study the use of natural limestone meal originated from Bukit Kamanglocated at Agam district of West Sumatra to substitute fresh water oyster shell as the main source ofcalcium in diet of laying hens. The mineral feed formula, as treatments, composed of limestone in combinationwith freshwater oyster shell in five different percent ratios: 100:0; 75:25; 50:50; 25:75 and 0:100. The mineralswere mixed in the level of 6 % into basal diet composed mainly corn, rice bran and concentrates. The fiveexperimental diets were then fed to 150 laying hens. They were divided into 5 groups; each group wassubdivided into 3 replicates groups containing 10 hens. Parameters measured included: feed intake, eggproduction, FCR, eggshell quality, Ca and P retention, tibia bone mineralization. Results showed the nutritivevalues of limestone of Bukit Kamang as mineral source of laying hen diet were found not significantlydifferent from those of oysters shell. The hens fed with diet supplemented with Bukit Kamang’s limestonetended to give better laying performances than those of supplemented with fresh water oyster shell. Thelaying performances, egg shell quality and Ca and P retentions did not significantly improved, when limestonewas mixed by oyster shell.

Retrospective analysis of third degree perineal lacerations in 7 female camels (6-17 yrs of age) that were surgically corrected by one stage repair (Goetz technique) is presented. Majority (3/7) of the camels was primiparous and all parturitions had a history of calving assistance. Six (6/7) camels recovered by first intention of healing. Dehiscence of perineal structure occurred in only one camel due to infection and healed by second intention. Subsequent matings resulted in pregnancy in four camels and one camel died due to unrelated causes. We conclude that perineal lacerations can occur in primiparous camels with difficult assisted deliveries and that one stage repair of perineal lacerations in camels improves the perineal conformation and such camels may easily regain normal fertility.

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang recovery perak dari limbah cuci cetak dengan metode membran cair berpendukung (SLM). Sebagai membran pendukung digunakan PTFE yang direndam selama 2 jam dalam senyawa pembawa D2EHPA 1 M dengan pelarut kerosen dan dilakukan pengadukan selama 6 jam. Untuk mengetahui kondisi optimum dalam recovery perak dilakukan variasi pH larutan umpan 1; 1,5; 2; 2,5; 3; 3,5; 4, larutan penerima HCl; HCl-EDTA; HNO3; HNO3-EDTA; H3PO4; H3PO4-EDTA serta konsentrasi larutan limbah pemekatan ½ kali; pengenceran 0 kali; pengenceran 10 kali. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh % transpor perak dari limbah fotografi dengan variasi pH larutan umpan memberikan % transpor perak optimum pada pH 2,5 yaitu 96,44% dengan larutan penerima HCl, sedangkan untuk % transpor perak pada fasa penerima dengan variasi larutan penerima memberikan hasil optimum pada larutan penerima (HCl-EDTA) yaitu 63,85% dan untuk variasi konsentrasi larutan umpan memberikan hasil optimum pada pengenceran 10 kali. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kondisi optimum untuk proses recovery perak dari limbah fotografi yaitu pH larutan umpan 2,5 dengan larutan penerima HCl. Sedangkan pada variasi larutan penerima diperoleh hasil optimum pada larutan penerima EDTA-HCl dan pada variasi konsentrasi limbah fotografi, konsentrasi paling encer memberikan hasil optimum dalam proses recovery perak dari limbah fotografi.

The study was conducted to determine mineral content of limestone originated from natural deposit of Bukit Kamang for feedstuff. Six samples were prepared and chemically analyzed. The first was limestone in meal form as a product of local milling industry. Another five samples were deposit components with different color of blackish, dark blue, blue, light blue and white. There was 21 kinds of mineral determined which were divided into 3 groups: macros (Ca, P, Mg, Na, K, Cl and S), trace minerals (Mn, Zn, Fe, Cu, Se, Co and Mo) and toxic elements (As, F, Hg, Cd, Pb, Ni and Cr). The results showed that Bukit Kamang’s limestone contained considerable high essential minerals of Ca, Se, Fe and Mn. The limestone consisted of 38%-40% Ca, 388 ppm Se, 295 ppm Fe and 205 ppm Mn. There were two toxic elements detected: Pb and Cd, but their concentration was found relatively low: 28 and 7 ppm, respectively.

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan manajemen pemupukan fosfat untuk pertumbuhan generatif alfalfa yang ditanam pada ketinggian tempat tertentu. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok (RAK), terdiri dari 5 perlakuan (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 kg P2O/ha) dan 4 kelompok ulangan. Variabel yang diamati adalah karakteristik pertumbuhan generatif alfalfa, yaitu jumlah tanaman berbunga, jumlah tanaman berpolong dan berat per 100 biji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, pemupukan fosfat tidak berpengaruh terhadap jumlah tanaman yang berbunga dan berpolong pada umur 14 minggu. Pemupukan fosfat tidak nyata meningkatkan persen tanaman alfalfa yang berbunga dan berpolong, tetapi meningkatkan bobot per 100 biji. Alfalfa mutan membutuhkan pemupukan fosfat 122,50 kg P52O/ha untuk mendapatkan berat per 100 biji yang maksimum.

n order to analyze and to study expressions of the Al-tolerant genes, we have examined five clone genes that were isolated from soybean cv. Lumut. Soybean cv. Lumut and Slamet, Centrocema pubescens, Pennisetum purpureum and Escherichia coli were selected for futher analysis. Based on the DNA sequencing, searching enzyme restriction sites and searching DNA homology with the genebank database; the clones encoding: (1) Catalase (gmali12, that function as an antioxidant), (2) Proliferating cell nuclear antigen like protein/PCNALP (gmali15, that involved as one of transcriptional regulator in the eucaryotic cell cycle), (3) Growth hormone (gmali22, this gene may play a role on stimulation of cell growth/development), (4) Amine oxidase (gmAO, genebank accession number AF313622, a gene that function as amine oxidation and/or antioxidant), and (5) Aminoacyl peptidase (gmAP, genebank accession number AF091304, a serine protease gene). Expressions of the clone genes either on forage crops or Escherichia coli indicated that all of the clones are basic genes, but its expression increased with aluminium induction (Al-induced genes) and involved in detoxification to Al stress. From this research, we also found similar responses between oxidative stress and Al stress to gene responses.

The Saudi Arabian Standards Organization, SASO, has established a set of tests that all passenger car tires have to pass in order to be allowed into the Country. These tests are: visual inspection, dimension measurement, bead unseating, tensile strength and elongation, aging, endurance, and high speed performance tests. This paper describes the application of the first five tests on eight different brands of tires that are taken to represent the categories of “frequently failed” and “infrequently failed” tires in the country. The results showed that the dimensions of almost all the tested tires were somewhat different from those documented in the SASO standards. On the other hand, all the tested tires passed the bead unseating and strength tests. All tires in the “frequently failed” category failed the tensile strength test. In contrast, all tires from the “infrequently failed” category passed this test. The average values of the test for these two tire categories were statistically different at a 95% confidence level.

The research was conducted to evaluate growth of alfalfa mutan (plant height increment, number of leaves and dry matter production) in different Nitrogen Fertilizer and defoliation intensity. The design used was randomized block design 4x2 factorial with 3 replications. The first was dosage of Nitrogen fertilizerNitrogen (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg N / ha), the second factor was defoliation intensity (5 and 10 cm). Variables observed alfalfa growth (plant height increment, number of leaves, the production of dry matter (DM) forage). The results showed that different N fertilization did not affect the growth of alfalfa mutants. Defoliation intensity affectedmnumber of leaves and DM production of alfalfa mutant. A one-day old male camel calf was presented to the Al-Qattara Veterinary Hospital with complaints of abdominal straining and lack of defecation. On examination it was found that the calf had no tail, the posterior sacral margin was blunt and the anal opening was absent. The case was diagnosed as congenital anury with atresia ani. The animal was sedated with 0.1 mg/kg of xylazine administered intramuscularly and under local infiltration with 2% lidocaine a circular incision was made at the anal area to create an anal opening. The animal passed plenty of meconium. The cut edges were sutured with horizontal mattress sutures. The animal was administered penicillin and streptomycin for 5 days and had an uneventful recovery. It is reported that congenital anury rarely occurs in one humped camel and accompanied atresia ani can be surgically treated.

A rare case of ankyloglossia in a one-humped camel and its successful surgical correction by horizontal to vertical frenuloplasty is reported. Seven-month-old she-camel calf, with a history of excessive salivation and inability to chew and swallow hay, was referred to Al Qattara veterinary hospital. Solid food was regurgitated, whereas milkand water could be swallowed. On examination; the animal could not protrude its tongue which was attached by a thin tissue band between the ventral surface of the tongue and the floor of the oral cavity. The tissue band was corrected by frenuloplasty and the incisions were sutured. The animal recovered well as the salivation and regurgitation stopped and the animal became able to chew and swallow solid food including hay. It was concluded that ankyloglossia can occur in one-humped camel in which a horizontal to vertical frenuloplasty may improve fullfunction of tongue movement.

This paper presents the development, experimentation, and validation of a reliable and robust system to monitor the injector pulse generated by an engine control module (ECM) which can easily be calibrated for different engine platforms and then feedback the corresponding fueling quantity to the real-time computer in a closed-loop controller in the loop (CIL) bench in order to achieve optimal fueling. This research utilizes field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) and direct memory access (DMA) transfer capability to achieve high speed data acquisition and delivery. This work is conducted in two stages: the first stage is to study the variability involved in the injected fueling quantity from pulse to pulse, from injector to injector, between real injector stators and inductor load cells, and over different operating conditions. Different thresholds have been used to find out the best start of injection (SOI) threshold and the end of injection (EOI) threshold that capture the injector “on-time” with best reliability and accuracy. Second stage involves development of a system that interprets the injector pulse into fueling quantity. The system can easily be calibrated for various platforms. Finally, the use of resulting correction table has been observed to capture the fueling quantity with highest accuracy.

Abstract Skin ageing is a complex process. Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors have a role in determining the speed, progression and phenotypic outcomes of the process. Typical clinical signs of ageing, such as wrinkles, thinning and sagging of the skin, are usually first noticed in the mid‐20s to early 30s. However, real‐world studies report that younger Asian women between the ages of 18 and 24 years are perceiving emerging signs of ageing, including dull skin, uneven skin tone, dryness, transient wrinkles, and a lack of skin firmness. These observations have led to a hypothesis that a phase of preageing may exist, where clinical signs of ageing are not yet present, but an individual starts to notice subtle changes in their skin's appearance. This paper discusses the concept of preageing in Asian populations and provides recommendations for recognising and managing the preageing process in clinical practice.
