The present paper aims to investigate the function of the dog-headed image of Saint Christopher among the Romanian Orthodox representations of the 18th century. The research will address the relationship between the existing zoomorphic representations and a new hagiography created by the popular lore, which circulated in Wallachia after 1700. This legend converted the monstrous ugliness of the hagiographic hero into his voluntary relinquishment of physical beauty, a semantic change intended to stress Saint Christopher's virtue. The article will focus on the role of this unusual visual representation within the religious edifice, as well as on the saint's exemplarity which operates in triggering the contemplation of Christian virtues. Abstract

A relação estreita entre mídia, turismo e cultura popular expandiu o olhar dos discípulos de Luiz Beltrão, que a partir da Folkcomunicação, teoria genuinamente brasileira, observaram a apropriação dos bens culturais como atrações turística através de meios de informação e da comunicação. Elementos da produção local como manifestações culturais, religiosas e gastronômicas, por exemplo, passam a se tornar produtos vendáveis que impactam principalmente na economia da região. Dessa forma, esta pesquisa tem por base apontar a Queijada de Dona Marieta como elemento folkturistico na cidade de São Cristóvão, como estratégia para o desenvolvimento local. A contribuição deste debate consiste em fortalecer o reconhecimento da teoria beltraniana, bem como expandir os olhares dos discípulos de Luiz Beltrão.

12. Findings from Federal University Sergipe Reveals New Findings on Crop Research (Chemical Composition and Antiprotozoal Potential of Essential Oil From Half-sib Progenies of varronia Curassavica Jacq).

Abstract

A recent study conducted at Federal University Sergipe in Sao Cristovao, Brazil, aimed to evaluate the chemical characteristics and biological activity of progenies from the first cycle of recurrent selection of Varronia curassavica. The researchers collected seeds from the parental accession VCUR-503 and analyzed the levels of E-caryophyllene and viridiflorol in the essential oil extracted from the progenies. The study found significant variation in the levels of these compounds and identified promising progenies for the next stages of the breeding program. The results indicated that oxytocin and a selective oxytocin receptor agonist suppressed muscle proteolysis, and this effect was blocked by an oxytocin receptor antagonist. The study suggests that oxytocin receptor stimulation directly induces skeletal muscle protein-sparing effects through a specific signaling pathway, which decreases muscle proteolysis. Abstract

Space planning, in which tourism activities are developed, is a fundamental process for the orderly development of tourism. In this way, it is necessary to understand the tourist space through the view of the multiple relations existing between people and geographic objects, and the movements, often contradictory and at the same time complementary, originating from all this dynamicity. We propose as objective to demonstrate the importance of the planning of the tourist space as a possibility of orderly development of the aforementioned activity, having as research area, the municipality of São Cristóvão – Sergipe. The research is based on a hermeneutical approach, as a phenomenon and practice of (re) interpretation and re-elaboration of previous studies of this theme. It is a research of theoretical / empirical nature, with the exploratory / descriptive objective and qualitative approach. Regarding the technical procedures, a bibliographic review and systematic, non-participant observations were made through technical visits, which revealed: the resources that compose the space / tourism scenario; the importance of (re) functionalization for consolidation as a tourism product; as well as strategies to foster the development of tourism in the city of São Cristóvão., La planificación del espacio, en el que se desarrollan las actividades turísticas, es un proceso fundamental para el desarrollo ordenado del turismo. De este modo, es necesario comprender el espacio turístico a través de la mirada de las múltiples relaciones existentes entre personas y objetos geográficos, y los movimientos muchas veces contradictorios y al mismo tiempo complementarios, oriundos de toda esa dinamicidad. Proponemos como objetivo demostrar la importancia de la planificación del espacio turístico como posibilidad de desarrollo ordenado de la actividad arriba citada, para el municipio de São Cristóvão - Sergipe. La investigación se fundamenta dentro de un enfoque hermenéutico, como fenómeno y práctica de (re) interpretación y reelaboración de los estudios anteriores de esa temática. Es una investigación de naturaleza teórica / empírica, con el objetivo exploratorio / descriptivo y abordaje cualitativo. En cuanto a los procedimientos técnicos, se realizaron revisión bibliográfica y observaciones sistemática, no participante, a través de visitas técnicas, que evidenciaron: los recursos que componen el espacio / escenario turístico; la importancia de la (re) funcionalización para la consolidación como producto turístico; además de estrategias para fomentar el desarrollo del turismo en la ciudad de São Cristóvão.

Abstract

This text aims to present the slave community that lived on the farm of St. Christopher, located in the captaincy of Rio de Janeiro, during some moments of the eighteenth century. Three types of sources are used for this purpose: 1. the listing made in 1759 at the time of the kidnapping of the farm, caused by the order of expulsion of the religious of the Company of Jesus of Portugal and its domains; 2. a new evaluation of these slaves made in 1761 from the denunciations that property was being lost and slaves were runway or causing riots; 3. The records of the sales of his labor in the auctions that took place in the square of Rio de Janeiro between 1761 and 1762. This analysis intends to demonstrate the complex family structure that the Jesuits were able to establish between their captives and the subsequent dismantling of these family units after the expulsion of the religious and the sale of their property. In addition, it is tried to demonstrate that the bidding on the part of these slaves were men who lived with this community of captives and, therefore, knew who they were buying. Este texto tiene como objetivo presentar a la comunidad esclava que vivía en la hacienda de San Cristóbal, ubicada en la capitanía de Río de Janeiro, a lo largo de algunos momentos del siglo XVIII . Se utiliza para ello tres tipos de fuentes: 1. la lista hecha en 1759 en el momento del secuestro de la hacienda, ocasionado por la orden de expulsión de los religiosos de la Compañía de Jesús de Portugal y de sus dominios; 2. una nueva evaluación de estos esclavos hecha en 1761 a partir de las quejas de que los bienes se estaban perdiendo y los esclavos huyendo o causando disturbios; 3. los registros de las remesas de su mano de obra en las subastas que ocurrieron en la plaza de Río de Janeiro entre los años 1761 y 1762. Este análisis pretende demostrar la compleja estructura familiar que los jesuitas lograron establecer entre sus cautivos y el posterior desmonte de esas unidades familiares después de la expulsión de los religiosos y de la venta de sus bienes. Además, se busca demostrar que los rematadores de parte de esos esclavos eran hombres que convivían con esa comunidad de cautivos y, por lo tanto, conocían a quienes estaban rematando. Esse texto tem como objetivo apresentar a comunidade escrava que vivia na fazenda de São Cristóvão, localizada na capitania do Rio de Janeiro, ao longo de alguns momentos do século XVIII . Buscamos, com isso, jogar luz sobre essa palavra de modo a transpassar a superfície e atingir as profundezas do seu ser. Essa escavação transcorre numa localidade específica, a cidade de São Cristóvão – Sergipe, por meio da realização de itinerários geográficos. Numa geografia em ato, os itinerários geográficos foram entendidos como a indicação de um percurso a seguir e o respectivo esboço das experiências reais e imaginadas, pessoais e coletivas, que compreenderam os trajetos propostos. Tal diligência foi possível através da utilização de uma linguagem poética, subjetiva, profunda. Linguagem que adentra o texto em momentos específicos em que o movimento é realizado rumo ao aprofundamento, em vez da objetivação. Se não podemos afirmar categoricamente que alcançamos a essência do patrimônio, podemos dizer que ela encontra-se velada entre a vontade e a imaginação. Assim, o patrimônio de São Cristóvão revelou-se como uma necessidade do sancristovense em criar, em ultrapassar-se. Patrimônios que transbordam para o mundo enquanto afirmações da existência e da capacidade criadora. Se o patrimônio realmente possui valores excepcionais universais, para verdadeiramente compreendê-lo, precisamos agregar o extraordinário ao excepcional. Por isso, caminhamos no limite entre a sensação e o devaneio, reunindo a beleza da vida sancristovense traduzida em cores, sons e palavras. In the present work we will ask for the origins of heritage, that is, its essence. We seek to shed light on this word in order to pierce the surface and reach the depth of its beings. This excavation takes place in a specific locality, the city of São Cristóvão- Sergipe, through the accomplishment of geographical itineraries. In a georaphy as an act, the geographical itineraries were understood as the indication of a rote to be followed and the respective sketch of the real and imagined, personal and collective, experiences that embrace the paths proposed. Such diligence was possible through the use of a poetic, subjective, profound language. A form of language that enters the text in specific moments, in which, the movement is made towards the deepening instead of the objectification. If we cannot state categorically that we attained the essence of heritage, at least we can say that it is veiled between will and imagination. Thus, the heritage of São Cristóvão was revealed as a necessity of creation, of overcoming. Heritage that overflows to the world as an affirmation of existence and creative capacity. If heritage truly possesses universal exceptional values, in order truly understand it, we must add the extraordinary to the exceptional. Therefore, we walk in the limit between sensation and reverie, bringing together the beauty of local resident’s life translated in colors, sounds and words.

Abstract

O presente artigo é fruto das intervenções arqueológicas realizadas no processo de restauração do sobrado adquirido peo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional localizado na cidade de São Cristóvão/Sergipe. A pesquisa buscou compreender os usos do bem restaurado, bem como identificar as memórias a ele associadas. Através dos resultados foi possível identificar estruturas de uma casa do XVIII, cujos restos materiais foram usados na construção do sobrado, no século XIX. Associada à história do sobrado destaca-se Adriana Freire, ex-esposa do barão de Laranjeiras, cujas memórias foram suplantadas em detrimento da figura do ouvidor.

Abstract

This paper discusses the education women in the catholic institutions São Cristóvão Orphanage and Imaculada Conceição School. The São Cristóvão Orphanage was founded in 1911 and aimed to accommodate abandoned girls, in 1922 due to the necessity to start a school, the institution received the Irmãs Missionárias da Imaculada Conceição da Mãe de Deus that come with the intention to manage both institutions. Its main objective was to investigate the educational practices developed in these institutions during the period 1922 to 1969, represented by two moments of great significance: the arrival of religious missionaries and change in the name of the institution that moved from São Cristóvão Orphanage to Lar da Imaculada Conceição . The paper investigate the school culture in the teaching women catholic over 47 years, based on documents produced by the institution itself, in the Instituto Histórico Geográfico de Sergipe de Sergipe (IHGS), in Arquivo Público de Sergipe (APES), Arquivo das Províncias Religiosas de Santa Cruz das Irmãs Missionárias da Imaculada Conceição da Mãe de Deus and Santo Antônio do Brasil dos Frades menores Franciscanos and in the memories of ex-boarders, ex-teachers and religious. O presente trabalho discute a educação feminina nas instituições católicas Orfanato de São Cristóvão e Escola da Imaculada Conceição. O Orfanato de São Cristóvão foi fundado em 1911 e tinha como objetivo o acolhimento de meninas desvalidas, em 1922 devido à necessidade de criação de uma escola, a instituição recebeu as Irmãs da Imaculada Conceição da Mãe de Deus que chegavam com o objetivo de dirigir ambas as instituições. Tem como objetivo principal investigar as práticas educativas desenvolvidas nestas instituições, no período de 1922 a 1969, por representar dois momentos de relevante importância: a chegada das religiosas missionárias e a mudança da nomenclatura da instituição que passou de Orfanato de São Cristóvão para Lar da Imaculada Conceição. O trabalho investiga a cultura escolar católica feminina no decorrer de 47 anos, com base nos documentos produzidos pela própria instituição, no Instituto Histórico Geográfico de Sergipe (IHGS), Setor de Documentação Sergipana da Biblioteca da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (BICEN), no Arquivo Público de Sergipe (APES), Arquivos das Províncias Religiosas de Santa Cruz das Irmãs Missionárias da Imaculada Conceição da Mãe de Deus e Santo Antônio do Brasil dos Frades Menores Franciscanos e nas memórias de ex-interna, ex-professoras e religiosas.

We begin by bringing to light the specific planning principles of tourism policy, taking into consideration the real need to think about historical centers, urban heritage, cultural patrimony and the touristification of these cities as a strategy for addressing the curre nt issues of backwardness and lack of infrastructure. (Heritage of Faith and Religiosity: Cultural Objects inserted on the Festival of Senhor dos Passos in São Cristóvão) - DOI: 10.5752/P.2175-5841.2013v11n31p1018O conceito de Bens Culturais de uma localidade vem passando por novos paradigmas quanto à abrangência e relevância. Nesse âmbito, além do Patrimônio Material de ruas, praças, igrejas, objetos artísticos e históricos, o discurso e ações dos órgãos oficiais e da comunidade, devem também se pautar pela valorização das produções imateriais da cultura. Esses elementos envolvem os sujeitos e os sons produzidos por eles, seus ofícios, memórias, festas e religiosidade. Nesse sentido, o presente artigo visa analisar os Bens Culturais que compõem o cenário da celebração do Senhor dos Passos e descrever os seus valores histórico, religioso e artístico. A metodologia utilizada foi: pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo. Após as três etapas da pesquisa e observação no local, constatado que a Festa do Senhor dos Passos em São Cristóvão possui elementos patrimoniais conectados que a transforma em um evento vinculado à identidade cultural-religiosa da região. 41. Patrimônio de Fé e Religiosidade: os Bens Culturais inseridos na Festa do Senhor dos Passos em São Cristóvão, Sergipe, Brasil

Abstract

The concept of cultural property that belongs to one locality has been going through new paradigms regarding the scope and relevance. In this context, in addition to material assets (streets, squares, churches and historical-artistic objects) the speech and actions of official bodies and the community, should also be guided by the appreciation of intangible productions. Such elements involve the subjects and the sounds produced by them, their crafts, memories, parties and religiosity. In this way, this article aims at analyzing the aspects that make up the scene of the festivities of Senhor dos Passos as a Cultural object and describes its historical, religious and artistic values. The methodology used was the bibliographic, documental and field research. After the three stages of research and on-site observation, it was found that the Festival of Senhor dos Passos in São Cristóvão owns connected heritage elements which turn it into an event linked to the religious-cultural identity of the region. Some of these elements are already safeguarded statewide and at national and global levels, while others, though not recognized by the official bodies of safeguarding of heritage are valued by the local community by affection, memory, donation and belongingness: Heritage of Faith, Religiosity and cult in Sergipe., conceito de Bens Culturais de uma localidade vem passando por novos paradigmas quanto à abrangência e relevância. Nesse âmbito, além do Patrimônio Material de ruas, praças, igrejas, objetos artísticos e históricos, o discurso e ações dos órgãos oficiais e da comunidade, devem também se pautar pela valorização das produções imateriais da cultura. Esses elementos envolvem os sujeitos e os sons produzidos por eles, seus ofícios, memórias, festas e religiosidade. Nesse sentido, o presente artigo visa analisar os Bens Culturais que compõem o cenário da celebração do Senhor dos Passos e descrever os seus valores histórico, religioso e artístico. A metodologia utilizada foi: pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo. Após as três etapas da pesquisa e observação no local, constatado que a Festa do Senhor dos Passos em São Cristóvão possui elementos patrimoniais conectados que a transforma em um evento vinculado à identidade cultural-religiosa da região. Alguns desses elementos já são tombados nos níveis estadual, nacional e mundial, enquanto que outros, embora não reconhecidos pelos órgãos oficiais de salvaguarda do Patrimônio, são valorizados pela comunidade no que concerne a afetividade, memória, dádiva e pertencimento: Patrimônios de Fé, Religiosidade e Culto em Sergipe.

The metafictional texts of Eça, along the 1880 s and 1890 s suggest a change in his aesthetic beliefs. Following a tendency already appointed by Antero de Quental, regarding the several currents of thought that permeated the second half of the nineteenth century, Eça leaves behind the most orthodox positions of the Realist-Naturalist period and adopts a more syncretistic attitude in his writings. In this new line of thought, Eça gives way to imagination and fantasy inside his works. However, this won t be the most significant change in relation to the Realist-Naturalist period. The new thing is that, in his writings concerning this phase, Eça questions consciousness as the supreme arbiter controlling human actions, showing that consciousness itself cannot be able to warrant men the Good (absolute) lectured by Positivism. We compared the short story São Cristóvão to what Antero calls, in his philosophy, the ideal I, in order to assert how Eça struggled against the Positivist idea that men could only reach the absolute Good by consciousness. Therefore, we will defend the idea that São Cristóvão is inserted in Eça s ideological setback, maintaining a dialogue with the 70 s Generation , with the philosophy of Antero, and the intellectual crisis of the end of the 19th Century Esta dissertação tem como objetivo evidenciar a relevância do conto São Cristóvão dentro do conjunto da obra de Eça de Queirós. Os textos metaficcionais de Eça, das décadas de 80 e 90, sugerem uma mudança no seu posicionamento estético. Seguindo uma tendência já apontada por Antero de Quental para as diversas correntes do pensamento na segunda metade do século XIX, Eça abandona as posições mais ortodoxas do Realismo-Naturalismo e adota uma atitude mais sincrética em suas obras. Neste novo posicionamento, Eça cede espaço, em suas obras, para a imaginação e a fantasia. No entanto, esta não é a mudança mais significativa em relação aos pressupostos do Realismo-Naturalismo. A novidade é que, nas obras desta fase, Eça questiona a posição de supremo árbitro das ações humanas ocupada pela consciência, mostrando que a mesma não é capaz de garantir ao homem o Bem (absoluto) pregado pelo Positivismo. Comparamos o conto São Cristóvão ao que Antero chama, em sua filosofia, de eu ideal, para mostrar o quanto esta idéia positivista da possibilidade de se alcançar o Bem absoluto pela intervenção da consciência nas ações humanas é combatida por Eça. Nesta perspectiva, mostramos como o conto São Cristóvão se insere neste seu recuo ideológico, estabelecendo um diálogo com a Geração de 70 , a filosofia de Antero e a crise intelectual do fim do século XIX

Abstract

The demand, even more complex, of modern society has been accelerating the use natural resources, resulting in environmental damage which put at risk the survival of humanity on our planet. Thus, the environmental impact on coast areas, always growing due to human necessities, has been preoccupying the city being studied. The present work aimed at identifying the main environmental impacts in São Cristóvão Beach, as well as exposing the conceptions of locals about aspects of environmental sanitation. The data was collected via bibliographical research and questionnaires with 51 citizens of São Cristóvão Beach in the city of Areia Branca-RN. It was verified that the locals have a perception of the environmental problems. As they pointed out the main problems, they mentioned a large percentage about environmental matters. Also, about the sanitation, it was seen some difficulties about the supplying of water, solid waste sanitation, pavement and sanitary draining. São Cristóvão Beach has been through an acute process of disorganized occupation due to the expansion of tourism in the Northern Potiguar shore. Therefore, it is perceived the extreme need for decisions by public policies toward controlling the occupation of São Cristóvão Beach in the city of Areia Branca, once it is an area of permanent preservation., A exigência cada vez mais complexa da sociedade moderna vem acelerando o uso dos recursos naturais, resultando em danos ambientais que colocam em risco a sobrevivência da humanidade no planeta, dessa forma os impactos socioambientais nas zonas costeiras causados pela busca sempre crescente das necessidades humanas vem implementando preocupações no município de estudo. O presente trabalho buscou identificar os principais impactos socioambientais na Praia de São Cristóvão, bem como apontar a concepção dos moradores sobre aspectos de saneamento ambiental. Os dados foram coletados por meio de revisão bibliográfica e por questionários aplicados a 51 moradores da Praia de São Cristovão no Município de Areia Branca-RN. Constatou-se que os moradores da Praia de São Cristovão têm uma percepção da problemática ambiental, uma vez que, ao apontarem os principais problemas da sua comunidade mencionaram um grande percentual referente à questão ambiental. Verificou-se, no tocante aos aspectos de saneamento ambiental da área de estudo, que sofre algumas deficiências, principalmente, no que diz respeito ao abastecimento de água, coleta de resíduos sólidos, pavimentação e esgotamento sanitário. Observou-se que a praia de São Cristovão vem passando por um acentuado processo de ocupação desordenada ligado principalmente à expansão do turismo no Litoral Norte Potiguar. Para tanto, percebe-se a urgência de tomadas de decisão por parte do poder público na fiscalização da ocupação da Praia de São Cristovão em Areia Branca, já que a mesma situa-se em área de preservação permanente.
