Searches for a stochastic gravitational-wave background (SGWB) using terrestrial detectors typically involve cross-correlating data from pairs of detectors. The sensitivity of such cross-correlation analyses depends, among other things, on the separation between the two detectors: the smaller the separation, the better the sensitivity. Hence, a co-located detector pair is more sensitive to a gravitational-wave background than a non-co-located detector pair. However, co-located detectors are also expected to suffer from correlated noise from instrumental and environmental effects that could contaminate the measurement of the background. Hence, methods to identify and mitigate the effects of correlated noise are necessary to achieve the potential increase in sensitivity of co-located detectors. Here we report on the first SGWB analysis using the two LIGO Hanford detectors and address the complications arising from correlated environmental noise. We apply correlated noise identification and mitigation techniques to data taken by the two LIGO Hanford detectors, H1 and H2, during LIGO's fifth science run. At low frequencies, 40 - 460 Hz, we are unable to sufficiently mitigate the correlated noise to a level where we may confidently measure or bound the stochastic gravitational-wave signal. However, at high frequencies, 460-1000 Hz, these techniques are sufficient to set a $95%$ confidence level (C.L.) upper limit on the gravitational-wave energy density of \Omega(f)<7.7 x 10^{-4} (f/ 900 Hz)^3, which improves on the previous upper limit by a factor of $\sim 180$. In doing so, we demonstrate techniques that will be useful for future searches using advanced detectors, where correlated noise (e.g., from global magnetic fields) may affect even widely separated detectors., Comment: 21 pages, 10 figures, 5 tables

Aims The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) EURObservational Research Programme (EORP) European Endocarditis (EURO-ENDO) registry aims to study the care and outcomes of patients diagnosed with infective endocarditis (IE) and compare findings with recommendations from the 2015 ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of IE and data from the 2001 Euro Heart Survey. Methods and results Patients (n = 3116) aged over 18 years with a diagnosis of IE based on the ESC 2015 IE diagnostic criteria were prospectively identified between 1 January 2016 and 31 March 2018. Individual patient data were collected across 156 centres and 40 countries. The primary endpoint is all-cause mortality in hospital and at 1 year. Secondary endpoints are 1-year morbidity (all-cause hospitalization, any cardiac surgery, and IE relapse), the clinical, epidemiological, microbiological, and therapeutic characteristics of patients, the number and timing of non-invasive imaging techniques, and adherence to recommendations as stated in the 2015 ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of IE. Conclusion EURO-ENDO is an international registry of care and outcomes of patients hospitalized with IE which will provide insights into the contemporary profile and management of patients with this challenging disease.

- Abstract
IMPORTANCE: Accurate identification of patient groups with the lowest level of protection following COVID-19 vaccination is important to better target resources and interventions for the most vulnerable populations. It is not known whether SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing has clinical utility for high-risk groups, such as people with cancer. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether spike protein antibody vaccine response (COV-S) following COVID-19 vaccination is associated with the risk of SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection or hospitalization among patients with cancer. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This was a population-based cross-sectional study of patients with cancer from the UK as part of the National COVID Cancer Antibody Survey. Adults with a known or reported cancer diagnosis who had completed their primary SARS-CoV-2 vaccination schedule were included. This analysis ran from September 1, 2021, to March 4, 2022, a period covering the expansion of the UK’s third-dose vaccination booster program. INTERVENTIONS: Anti–SARS-CoV-2 COV-S antibody test (Elecsys; Roche). MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Odds of SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection and COVID-19 hospitalization. RESULTS: The evaluation comprised 4249 antibody test results from 3555 patients with cancer and 294 230 test results from 225 272 individuals in the noncancer population. The overall cohort of 228 827 individuals (patients with cancer and the noncancer population) comprised 298 479 antibody tests. The median age of the cohort was in the age band of 40 and 49 years and included 182 741 test results (61.22%) from women and 115 737 (38.78%) from men. There were 279 721 tests (93.72%) taken by individuals identifying as White or White British. Patients with cancer were more likely to have undetectable anti-S antibody responses than the general population (199 of 4249 test results [4.68%] vs 376 of 294 230 [0.13%]; P < .001). Patients with leukemia or lymphoma had the lowest antibody titers. In the cancer cohort, following multivariable correction, patients who had an undetectable antibody response were at much greater risk for SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection (odds ratio [OR], 3.05; 95% CI, 1.96-4.72; P < .001) and SARS-CoV-2–related hospitalization (OR, 6.48; 95% CI, 3.31-12.67; P < .001) than individuals who had a positive antibody response. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The findings of this cross-sectional study suggest that COV-S antibody testing allows the identification of patients with cancer who have the lowest level of antibody-derived protection from COVID-19. This study supports larger evaluations of SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing. Prevention of SARS-CoV-2 transmission to patients with cancer should be prioritized to minimize impact on cancer treatments and maximize quality of life for individuals with cancer during the ongoing pandemic.

• Deforestation and forest degradation remain the most prominent challenges in global forest governance. • In a multipolar world, issue specific coalitions across world regions are critical for global forest governance. • Governance initiatives connecting to "high politics" such as trade are promising for global forest governance. • Both investment and informal markets are not sufficiently accounted for in global forest governance. • New information technologies can increase transparency in global forest governance. Deforestation and forest degradation remain huge global environmental challenges. Over the last decades, various forest governance initiatives and institutions have evolved in global response to interlinked topics such as climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, indigenous rights, and trade impacts – accompanied by various levels of academic attention. Using a Delphi methodology that draws on both policy and academic insights, we assess the currently perceived state of play in global forest governance and identify possible future directions. Results indicate that state actors are seen to be key in providing supportive regulatory frameworks, yet interviewees do not believe these will be established at the global scale. Rather, respondents point to issue-specific, regional and inter-regional coalitions of the willing, involving the private sector, to innovate global forest governance. Linking forest issues with high politics may hold promise, as demonstrated by initiatives regarding illegal logging and timber trade. Confident rule-setting in support of the public good as well as responsible investments are seen as further avenues. New forest governance "hypes", if used strategically, can provide leverage points and resources to ensure sustainability effects on the ground. At the same time, informal markets are often crucial for governance outcomes and need consideration. As such, clarifying tenure in sovereignty-sensitive ways is important, as are innovative ways for inclusive "glocal" decision-making. Lastly, new technologies, big data and citizens' capacities are identified as potent innovation opportunities, for making global dependencies between consumption, production and deforestation visible and holding players accountable across the value chains. - Abstract
Aims: The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) EURObservational Research Programme (EORP) European Endocarditis (EURO-ENDO) registry aims to study the care and outcomes of patients diagnosed with infective endocarditis (IE) and compare findings with recommendations from the 2015 ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of IE and data from the 2001 Euro Heart Survey. Methods and results: Patients (n = 3116) aged over 18 years with a diagnosis of IE based on the ESC 2015 IE diagnostic criteria were prospectively identified between 1 January 2016 and 31 March 2018. Individual patient data were collected across 156 centres and 40 countries. The primary endpoint is all-cause mortality in hospital and at 1 year. Secondary endpoints are 1-year morbidity (all-cause hospitalization, any cardiac surgery, and IE relapse), the clinical, epidemiological, microbiological, and therapeutic characteristics of patients, the number and timing of non-invasive imaging techniques, and adherence to recommendations as stated in the 2015 ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of IE. Conclusion: EURO-ENDO is an international registry of care and outcomes of patients hospitalized with IE which will provide insights into the contemporary profile and management of patients with this challenging disease

Les mycobactéries non tuberculeuses (MNT) représentent une menace récente pour les patients atteints de mucoviscidose. La mucoviscidose est une pathologie liée à un déficit mendélien, au niveau du gène cftr, codant la protéine cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR). Il existe un lien privilégié entre mucoviscidose et MNT. En effet, l’incidence des infections pulmonaires à MNT a augmenté au cours de ces dernières années, avec notamment deux MNT prédominantes : Mycobacterium avium complexet le complexe Mycobacterium abscessus. La prise en charge clinique, le diagnostic biologique et les aspects thérapeutiques sont complexes. L’altération préexistante des fonctions respiratoires des patients atteints de mucoviscidose, la présence dans l’environnement des MNT, rendent difficile l’imputabilité des MNT isolées dans les expectorations des patients. La multi-résistance aux antibiotiques des MNT isolées rend également difficile le traitement de ces infections. Il n’existait pas jusqu’à aujourd’hui de recommandations nationales et internationales concernant la prise en charge des patients atteints de mucoviscidose présentant une infection à MNT. Deux publications récentes regroupant à la fois la prise en charge diagnostique, clinique et thérapeutique présentent des avis d’experts qui permettront à l’avenir de mieux appréhender l’impact des MNT dans l’altération des fonctions ventilatoires des patients atteints de mucoviscidose.

15. Blood stream infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms among spinal cord-injured patients, epidemiology over 16 years and associated risks: a comparative study

Study design:Retrospective study.Objectives:We aimed to describe the epidemiology of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) during bloodstream infection (BSI) and identify associated risks of MDROs among patients with spinal cord injury (SCI).Setting:A teaching hospital, expert center in disability, in France.Methods:We studied a retrospective cohort of all BSIs occurring in SCI patients hospitalized over 16 years. We described the prevalence of MDRO BSI among this population and its evolution over time and compared the BSI population due to MDROs and due to non-MDROs.Results:A total of 318 BSIs occurring among 256 patients were included in the analysis. The most frequent primary sites of infection were urinary tract infection (34.0%), pressure sore (25.2%) and catheter line-associated bloodstream infection (11.3%). MDROs were responsible for 41.8% of BSIs, and this prevalence was stable over 16 years. No significant associated factor for MDRO BSI could be identified concerning sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, primary site of infection and bacterial species in univariate and multivariate analyses. BSI involving MDROs was not associated with initial severity of sepsis compared with infection without MDROs (43.8 vs 43.6%, respectively) and was not associated either with 30th-day mortality (6.2 vs 9%, respectively).Conclusion:During BSI occurrence in an SCI population, MDROs are frequent but remain stable over years. No associated risk can be identified that would help optimize antibiotic treatment. Neither the severity of the episode nor the mortality is significantly different when an MDRO is involved.

La macrofaune des cours d'eau antillais est constituée principalement d'espèces amphidromes de crevettes d'eau douce (Palaemonidae, Atyidae et Xiphocarididae) et de poissons (Gobiidae). Si la croissance et la reproduction de ces espèces ont lieu en eau douce, le développement larvaire nécessite divers degrés de salinité. La construction de prises d'eau (seuils et barrages collinaires) est susceptible de nuire à la fois aux migrations de dévalaison et aux migrations d'avalaison. Les migrations de dévalaison sont entreprises par les larves nouvellement nées qui sont emportées vers les estuaires par le courant. Les prises d'eau induisent donc des taux élevés de mortalité larvaire par entraînement des larves dans les conduites forcées. Les migrations d'avalaison sont principalement le fait de juvéniles qui présentent un rhéotactisme positif et un potentiel d'escalade des obstacles supérieurs à ceux des adultes. Les ouvrages de faible hauteur réalisés au travers des cours d'eau représentent des obstacles qui sont généralement franchis par escalade. Certains barrages collinaires réalisés aux Antilles ont été équipés de dispositifs de franchissements. Aucun critère biologique n'a cependant été pris en compte pour véritablement faciliter les migrations d'avalaison. En outre les migrations de dévalaison par dérive ont été ignorées. Les exigences d'une libre circulation en relation avec le cycle de vie amphidrome des espèces sont ici rappelées. Les taux élevés de mortalité larvaire peuvent être réduits en évitant les prélèvements d'eau durant les pics maximums de dérive qui ont lieu durant les premières heures après la tombée de la nuit. En cas de prise d'eau en continu des dispositifs lumineux sont susceptibles d'orienter les larves vers les dispositifs délivrant les débits réservés ; ces dispositifs limiteraient ainsi l'entraînement des larves dans les conduites forcées. Limperméabilité des barrages vis-à-vis des migrations d'avalaison peut disparaître complètement lorsque les ouvrages comportent des dispositifs sommaires de franchissements - de types « cascade » ou « passe en écharpe ».

Nous rapportons un cas de luxations multiples des articulations carpo-métacarpiennes des doigts longs survenues après un traumatisme fermé de la main droite lors d’un match de volley-ball. Il s’agit de luxations dorsales carpo-métacarpiennes des doigts longs (pouce exclu), sans aucune fracture associée. Nous les avons traitées par une réduction à foyer ouvert, après échec du traitement orthopédique puis stabilisation par embrochage suivie d’une immobilisation de 4 semaines. La rééducation a été débutée précocement et poursuivie plusieurs semaines après ablation des broches. Au dernier recul de 8 mois, le résultat fonctionnel était satisfaisant, avec une bonne force musculaire et une récupération complète de la mobilité du poignet, des doigts en flexion-extension. Le patient a pu reprendre ses activités quotidiennes et sportives. La difficulté du diagnostic, le mécanisme de survenue ainsi que le traitement sont discutés.

Plasma urea N (PUN) has been used as an indicator of AA requirements and efficiency of AA utilization in swine. However, PUN concentrations vary among a population of pigs, even a population with a close range of BW and fed the same diet. Thus, pretreatment or baseline PUN concentrations are used as a covariate to reduce variation of posttreatment PUN. However, this procedure increases experimental costs and stress to the pigs. Data from 14 experiments (26 to 28 d in duration) conducted using PUN as a response variable were compiled into 1 data set. Each experiment had 4 to 6 treatments. The purpose of this technical report was to summarize the effect of determining pretreatment baseline PUN concentrations on subsequent posttreatment PUN concentrations in 20- to 50-kg pigs. In all experiments, pigs were fed corn- and soybean meal-based diets and low-CP diets with various AA additions; pigs were assigned to dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design with a minimum of 4 replicates of 3 to 5 pigs each. Before the start of each experiment, all pigs were fed a common diet for a minimum of 3 d. Blood samples were collected from each pig before allotment to dietary treatments (d 0) and at the end of each experiment. The baseline (d 0) PUN was analyzed as a covariate for posttreatment PUN. Data from each experiment were analyzed without and with baseline PUN in the statistical model. In all experiments combined, there were 768 possible treatment comparisons. The covariate baseline PUN was statistically significant (P< 0.10) in 9 of 14 experiments. However, only 8 treatment differences changed statistical significance as a result of analyzing the data with baseline PUN as a covariate. These 8 treatment differences were in 3 experiments. These results indicate that it is not always necessary to determine baseline PUN concentrations when feeding diets with large differences in AA content.

21. Maximizing the use of supplemental amino acids in corn-soybean meal diets for 20- to 45-kilogram pigs1,2

Four experiments were conducted to determine the Lys requirement, the maximum amount of supplemental Lys that does not decrease growth performance, and to determine the order of limiting AA beyond Lys, Thr, Trp, and Met in a corn-soybean meal diet for 20- to 45-kg pigs. All experiments were conducted for 27 to 28 d with purebred or crossbred barrows and gilts, which were blocked by initial BW. Treatments were replicated with 4 to 6 pens of 4 to 6 pigs per pen. In all experiments, pigs and feeders were weighed on d 0, 14, and 27 or 28. At the beginning and end of all experiments, blood samples were obtained from all pigs to determine plasma urea N (PUN) concentrations. In Exp. 1, 0.830, 0.872, 0.913, and 0.955% standardized ileal digestible (SID) Lys was fed, whereas 0.747, 0.788, 0.830, 0.872, and 0.913% SID Lys was fed in Exp. 2. Broken-line analysis requirement estimates could not be estimated from any response variable in Exp. 1, but in Exp. 2, using ADG and PUN, the estimated SID Lys requirement was 0.83%. In Exp. 3, 0, 0.118, 0.191, 0.264, and 0.335% supplemental Lys was added to achieve 0.83% SID Lys in all diets, and Thr, Trp, and Met were supplemented to maintain Thr:Lys, Trp:Lys, and TSAA:Lys of 0.65, 0.18, and 0.60, respectively. Based on ADG, ADFI, and G:F, up to 0.23% supplemental Lys can be added along with supplemental Thr, Trp, and Met without negatively affecting growth performance; PUN was linearly decreased (P< 0.001) by supplemental Lys. In Exp. 4, treatments were 1) positive control (PC) without supplemental AA, 2) negative control (NC) with 0.335% supplemental Lys + 0.140% L-Thr + 0.035% L-Trp + 0.117% DL-Met, 3) NC + 0.044% L-Val, 4) NC + 0.021% L-Ile, and 5) NC + 0.044% L-Val + 0.021% L-Ile. Individual addition of Val and Ile did not improve (P> 0.10) ADG or G:F compared with the NC. The combined addition of Val + Ile resulted in ADG that was intermediate between the PC and NC diets but not different from either diet (P> 0.10); G:F was not improved (P> 0.10) to that observed in pigs fed the PC diet. The PUN was not different (P> 0.10) among pigs fed diets with supplemental AA but less (P< 0.10) than pigs fed the PC. The results of this research indicate that the Lys requirement for 20- to 45-kg pigs is 0.83% SID Lys, up to 0.23% supplemental Lys (0.29% L-Lys·HCl or 0.45% L-Lys·SO4) can be added along with supplemental Thr, Trp, and Met without negatively affecting growth performance, and another AA besides Val and Ile may be limiting growth performance in a corn-soybean meal diet with 0.335% supplemental Lys.

22. Effects of dietary spray-dried plasma protein on sow productivity during lactation1,2

Seventy-two primiparous and multiparous sows (36 per dietary treatment) farrowed in 4 groups were used to evaluate the effects of spray-dried plasma protein (SDP) on sow and litter performance during lactation. Dietary lactation treatments consisted of a corn-soybean meal control and a corn-soybean meal diet containing 0.5% SDP. Both diets were formulated to contain 1.0% total Lys and 3.46 Mcal/kg of ME and were fed from d 107 ± 1.2 of gestation to weaning. Sows were allotted to dietary treatment based on breed, parity, and the date of d 107 of gestation. Litters were standardized within diet, and pigs were weaned at an average age of 19 ± 2.1 d. Sows were fed 3 times daily during lactation. After weaning, sows were fed a common gestation diet and checked twice daily for estrus. Sows were grouped by parity (young sows, ≤3; mature sows, >3) for statistical analysis. The data were analyzed as a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments; the factors were parity (≤3 or >3) and SDP (0 or 0.5%). Treatment differences were considered significant at P< 0.10. Mature sows had a greater BW on d 107 of gestation, on d 1 postfarrowing, and at weaning; greater lactation ADFI; and greater litter BW after cross-fostering, but pig survival to weaning was decreased. Sows fed SDP had a greater gestation interval, litter BW at weaning, and litter ADG, with 1 less lactation day. The effect of SDP addition was dependent on sow parity, as noted by numerous SDP × parity interactions. The addition of SDP increased lactation ADFI in mature sows but decreased ADFI in young sows. Mature sows fed SDP had a greater number of pigs weaned per litter, litter and pig weaning weights, pig survival to weaning, and number of pigs weaned per litter weighing more than 3.6 kg, but the SDP diet had little to no effect on these responses in young sows. Subsequent farrowing data were collected, but no dietary treatment effects (P> 0.10) were observed. 23. Parameter estimation methodology using inundation extents in fluvial hydraulics

Since its beginnings, remote sensing has considerably contributed to the progress of the researches in the field of flood hydrodynamic. The new generations of satellite are equipped with sensors of metric resolution. Therefore, they are now able to provide observations that need to be valorized as a new data source for hydraulic modeling. Indeed, some parameters embedded in open channel flow equations are difficult to calibrate in practice and hydraulic models are currently constrained by lack of data. The objective of this study is to test the potential of remote sensing imagery which may be used together with data assimilation methods to ascertain the value of a set of open-channel model parameters. The innovation of this study is to reconstitute information about the geometry of the river from top sight. Several data assimilation techniques have been tested on a synthetic case in order to find the most appropriate method for hydraulic parameter identification. The chosen optimization technique has then been implemented on two test sites. The study proceeds with an assessment of model performance when model calibrations are transferred between two flood events. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is carried out, together with an estimation of predictive uncertainty.

- Abstract
The present work deals with the study of adsorption equilibria of xylenes and p-diethylbenzene on a prehydrated BaX zeolite at 175 and 130 °C. The adsorption isotherms of single components recorded by a thermogravimetric method show that the adsorption affinity of the zeolite and the adsorbate/adsorbent interaction energy at low loading are about the same for the three aromatics and that, at 175 °C, the adsorption capacities are the same for the three components. The adsorption of binary and ternary mixtures in the liquid phase has been performed by a chromatographic method. The results show that the selectivity depends on the composition of the liquid phase and on the temperature. Moreover, for the two mixtures p-xylene/m-xylene and p-diethylbenzene/m-xylene, the effect of temperature appears only on the preferentially adsorbed component, p-xylene and p-diethylbenzene, respectively. Tentative interpretations in terms of adsorption sites are proposed. Last, the Langmuir−Freundlich model describes the variation of the selectivity and the adsorbed amounts with the composition of the liquid phase in the binary mixtures. The extension of the model to ternary mixtures provides very qualitative results.

A tissue-equivalent phantom containing thermoluminescent dosimeters was mailed in succession to Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood, Middlesex, England, to Groote Schuur Hospital, Capetown, South Africa, and to Winnipeg General Hospital, Winnipeg, Canada, to determine the accuracy and consistency in treatment for carcinoma of the cervix under hyperbaric oxygen conditions. (Protocol of the Medical Research Council's Working Party on Radiotherapy and Hyperbaric Oxygen.) The data were analysed by the Radiological Physics Center, Houston, Texas, and substantiate uniformity at and between the participating institutions.

Developments in a new system of brachytherapy for tumours of the eye are reported. This involves the use of 125I sources with special screens and filters to avoid irradiation of vital structures and to produce a homogeneous radiation field. Methods for the treatment of tumours of the lids, conjunctiva, retina, choroid and lachrymal gland have been developed. Sixteen out of 20 treatments appear to have been successful. This system would seem to be a material advance on those previously reported.

It has long been suspected that the depth-dose characteristics of modern 60Co teletherapy units are no longer well represented by the traditional data of The British Journal of Radiology Supplement 11. Extensive measurements have been undertaken on three modern 60Co units in an attempt to clarify this position. Three different values of source-toskin distance were studied, namely 50, 80 and 100 cm. Systematic deviations from the traditional data are unambiguous, amounting to up to 3% at 80 cm SSD and as much as 7% at 50 cm SSD. Comparison with calibration results at a large number of institutions lends confidence that the present results are representative of modern treatment units.

- Abstract
The genomic DNAs that specify the renin mRNAs found in the submaxillary gland and in the kidney of Swiss mice have been isolated by molecular cloning in phage lambda. The Ren1 and Ren2 genes, encoding the kidney and submaxillary renins, respectively, span about 9.5 kilobases each. Restriction maps of both renin genes and their flanking sequences are presented. To correlate the differential expression of the renin genes with their structures, a sequence analysis of the putative 5' regulatory sequences of both genes was conducted. The results show that the leader sequences and promoter regions of both genes are highly homologous to a point located 179 nucleotides upstream from the transcription start point; the sequences diverge beyond this position.

Graphic multiple-regression analysis demonstrated the influence of 5 environmental variables (2 seasonal and 3 hydraulic) on the macroinvertebrates of the Rhône River at Lyon. Interactions between flow rate and season are demonstrated by fauna classification, which defines the seasonal and aperiodic taxa through simple and multiple regression of values, which represent 62 taxa.

Les deux espèces Gammarus pulex et G. fossarum montrent des différences spécifiques d'ordre physiologique. Des animaux d'une même station placés dans des conditions expérimentales strictement identiques présentent des courbes métabolisme/température différentes. G. pulex serait « adapté » à des températures moyennes (15-20° C) avec des possibilités d'ajustement aux températures extrêmes (5 et 25° C). G. fossarum serait « adapté » à des températures plus basses (5-10° C) avec des possibilités d'ajustement limitées dès 20° C. Ces particularités physiologiques permettent d'expliquer la cohabitation fréquente de ces espèces dans des conditions écologiques moyennes, leur répartition géographique actuelle, et peut-être même les conditions de leur formation.

- Abstract
The double oblique osteotomy with rotation of the trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint procedure (DOOR procedure) is a surgical technique conceived to treat non-traumatic TMC instability, often responsible for TMC joint osteoarthritis. The main goal of this procedure is to correct the exaggerated slope of the trapezium. It also allows opening of the first web space, transfers pressure to healthy cartilage areas, and reverses the forces exerted on the trapeziometacarpal ligaments. The technique is demanding and should be learned in the anatomy laboratory. Since 2000, we have carried out 96 cases, evidence that this technique is reliable. Our case series consists of 88 patients (71 females, 17 males), with 8 patients operated bilaterally. The average age at the time of the procedure was 48 years. The first 22 operated (24 cases) between 2000 and 2005 were reviewed in 2015 with an average follow-up of 13 years. Pain averaged 0.5 on VAS. The average QuickDASH score was 6. The average mobility according to Kapandji's index was 9 for opposition and 3 for retropulsion. The grip strength compared to that of the contralateral side was 180%, the key pinch strength was 100% of the contralateral side and the tip pinch strength was 98%. This intervention makes up approximately 10% of our surgical indications in thumb basal joint arthritis. It is reserved for young women with early arthritis or unstable thumbs, and for men who perform manual labor. While the results take a long time to achieve (about 3 months), they remain highly satisfactory at the average follow-up of 13 years.

La fasciite nécrosante est une infection rare des tissus sous-cutanés atteignant le fascia. Sa mortalité s’élève à 30 % et sa prise en charge est urgente. L’immunodépression est un facteur de risque reconnu. De causes bactériennes, elles peuvent être mono ou polymicrobiennes, à germes aéro- ou anaérobies. Les streptocoques du groupe A, entérobactéries, P. aeruginosaet les anaérobies sont le plus souvent impliqués. L’origine mycologique est très rare et exclusivement réservée aux immunodéprimés. Les champignons responsables décrits sont : Mucorales, Aspergilluset Candida.Aucun cas de fasciite nécrosante humaine à Nannizziopsisspp. n’était encore décrit.

- Abstract
Seeds containing iodine 125 as supplied by Lawrence Soft Ray Corporation have now been used at this hospital to treat a variety of patients with tumours which would have been treated with applicators or moulds loaded with 182Ta or 226Ra if the seeds had not been available. Iodine seeds have also been extensively used at other hospitals, e.g.Kim and Hilaris (1975), Hilaris (1976), and Charyulu et al.(1976). The advantages of 125I over 182Ta have already been outlined earlier (Sealy et al., 1976; Hering et al., 1977). However, whereas the radiobiological effectiveness (RBE) of the 182Ta radiation relative to 250 kV X rays is well known, there is at present no such information available for 125I. By considering the LET spectrum of the X rays of 125I, Kim and Hilaris (1975) have predicted an RBE of the seeds for human tumours higher than one and less than 1.5. Some radiobiological studies are needed to test this prediction and this has led to some preliminary investigations on vicia fabaas outlined below.
