Abstract

The article presents research comparing analysis of saliva in pregnant and non-pregnant women and its correlation to incidence of dental caries. Particular attention is paid to determining the calcium content and pH of saliva of pregnant women compared to non-pregnant women. Results suggest no statistical difference between the calcium content of the saliva of pregnant women and non-pregnant women. However, a significant difference in pH values between the two groups was reported.

Abstract

The article presents research investigating the presence of bacteria in healthy gingival sulcus of humans compared with that of domestic and wild mammals. Researchers seek to corroborate past research findings which suggest that bacterial examination will indicate if dental calculus has been completely removed from the periodontal pocket. Results reveal that healthy gingival suleus is not sterile and the sterilization of the teeth and gingivae with iodo-glycerol solution sterilizes the sulcus also.

Abstract

The article reports on a topical penicillin treatment which combines the antibiotic with denture adhesive powder. Experiments using Karaya gum, carboxymethyl cellulose, and crystallin penicillin in rabbits, rats, and mice are mentioned. Topics include the reduction of Staphylococcus aureus in Petri dish cultures, the Rosenthal motility test, and the effectiveness of the adhesive penicillin ointment against Vincent's infection, pericoronitis, and streptococcic gingivitis.

Abstract

This article discusses the results of a study conducted to determine the efficacy of penicillin and streptomycin solutions in controlling bacteria in the acute phases of Vincent’s infection. The study concludes that streptomycin is superior to penicillin because it controls bacteria more effectively and can be stored for a longer period of time.
