This study aimed to find validity evidence for the WISC-IV through the relationship with external variables, analyzing possible associations between the factor indexes of the WISC-IV and a Cloze test that assesses reading comprehension. We evaluated 150 children ages 6-14 years, from the 1st to the 9th grade level. The statistical technique of structural equation modeling was applied through the program Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). According to the results the factor index that best predicts reading comprehension is verbal comprehension, revealing a strong association with crystallized cognitive abilities. The results show validity evidence favorable to the WISC-IV interpretations, helping to bring it closer to more contemporary instruments in the assessment of intelligence as proposed by the CHC model.***Evidências de validade para a 4ª edição das Escalas Wechsler de Inteligência para Crianças***Este estudo teve como propósito buscar evidências de validade por meio da relação com variáveis externas para o WISC-IV, analisando possíveis associações entre os índices fatoriais do WISC-IV e o Teste de Cloze, que avalia a compreensão de leitura. Foram avaliadas 150 crianças com idades entre 6 a 14 anos, do 1º ao 9º ano do ensino fundamental. Recorreu-se à técnica estatística modelagem de equações estruturais, por meio do programa Analysis of Moment Structures – AMOS. De acordo com os resultados encontrados o índice fatorial que mais prediz a compreensão de leitura é o de compreensão verbal, revelando forte associação com as habilidades cognitivas cristalizadas. Os resultados revelam evidências de validade favoráveis às interpretações do WISC-IV, contribuindo para aproximá-lo de instrumentos mais contemporâneos na avaliação da inteligência, como propõe o modelo CHC.

Resumo Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar o uso das estratégias de aprendizagem e as crenças de autoeficácia em universitários ingressantes, explorar diferenças em relação ao curso e à faixa etária, além de estabelecer a relação entre os construtos. Os instrumentos utilizados foram a Escala de Estratégias de Aprendizagem para Estudantes Universitários (EEA-U) e a Escala de Autoeficácia na Formação Superior (AEFS). Os participantes foram 109 estudantes dos cursos de Psicologia, Engenharia de Produção, Educação Física e Medicina Veterinária de uma universidade particular do sul de Minas Gerais, ambos os sexos, com idade média de 20 anos e 6 meses(DP=3,76). RESUMO O estudo refere-se a analise da producao cientifica em lingua portuguesa sobre os construtos Autoeficacia academica e Autorregulacao da aprendizagem no periodo de janeiro de 2000 a dezembro de 2014 em bases de dados Redalyc e CAPES, na subarea Psicologia que contou com 43 itens. Foi realizada analise cientometrica a partir das informacoes dos artigos, e o escalonamento multidimensional e a rede de relacionamentos entre os autores foi feita a partir das referencias. Os resultados evidenciaram que a maior parte dos artigos se refere a autorregulacao e nestes a Teoria Social Cognitiva e a perspectiva teorica predominante. Quanto as referencias, encontrou-se um total de 901 citacoes de 735 autores diferentes, sendo a maior parte destas procedentes de artigos cientificos. A analise das redes apresentou o padrao de relacionamento entre eles e o alinhamento com cada um dos temas pesquisados. Palavras-chave: cientometria; producao cientifica; indicadores cientificos.

Este estudo objetivou averiguar a existência de relações entre as características de estilos cognitivos de universitários ingressantes e sua habilidade de compreensão leitora. Participaram 120 alunos de uma universidade particular, de cursos noturnos das áreas de exatas, humanas e biológicas. Os instrumentos utilizados foram a Escala de Avaliação de Estilos Cognitivos e um texto preparado segundo a técnica de Cloze. Os resultados indicaram que a maior parte dos universitários estudados apresentaram pontuações mais elevadas nos estilos divergente e reflexivo; as características holista e serialista aparecem em proporções similares. Houve diferença significativa entre estilo cognitivo e gênero, indicando que os homens são mais holistas do que as mulheres. Quanto à compreensão de leitura, não foram identificadas diferenças estatisticamente significativas, considerando os cursos e o gênero dos estudantes. Também, identificou-se uma correlação negativa, marginalmente significativa, entre a habilidade de compreensão de leitura e o estilo cognitivo serialista. This study aimed at verifying the existence of relationships between the characteristics of the freshmen students' cognitive styles and their reading comprehension abilities. The informants were 120 students, from a private university attending night courses in the exact, human and biological areas. The instruments used were the evaluative Scale of Cognitive Style and a text prepared according to Cloze's technique. The results showed that the majority of the students tend to be divergent and reflexive; there are holist and serial characteristics in a similar proportion. There was a significant difference between the cognitive style and gender showing that men are more holistic than women. As for the reading comprehension, it wasn't identified any significant statistical difference, considering the student's courses and gender. A marginally significant negative correlation, between the reading comprehension and the serial cognitive style was also identified.

The use of capacitors for correcting the power factor is a very well known approach in industry. However, the increase of harmonic sources in power systems is heightening the risk of resonance and, consequently, a drastic decrease in electric power quality. In order to keep the rating voltage, the power factor, and the voltage and current harmonic distortions within acceptable limits, a fuzzy control approach was implemented. Based on this approach, a software program that is able to decide about the optimal distribution of the capacitor banks has also been developed. The program decision is based of the rating voltage, the power factor, and the whole voltage and current harmonic distortions. When necessary, the computer program decides on the use of filters for harmonic compensation, indicating the best filter and the corresponding tuning frequency. Furthermore, the approach is able to deal with some aspects concerning the electric losses, both on the rating frequency and on the harmonic components.

Com o objetivo de explorar evidências de validade para uma escala de estilos cognitivos em relação a traços de personalidade, foram estudados 135 universitários de ambos os sexos. Os dois instrumentos foram aplicados coletivamente em sala de aula. A escala para medir estilos cognitivos informava sobre os estilos convergente, divergente, holista, serialista, reflexividade e impulsividade; enquanto o inventário de adjetivos marcadores da personalidade fornecia dados sobre os traços realização, extroversão, neuroticismo, abertura e socialização. Com base em suas definições esperavam-se encontrar nove correlações entre os estilos cognitivos e os traços de personalidade. Os dados obtidos não mostraram diferenças nas dimensões de estilo cognitivo relacionadas ao gênero e à idade. Também foram encontradas 12 correlações significativas, cinco delas confirmando as hipóteses e as outras não. Embora algumas evidências de validade para a escala de estilos cognitivos tenham sido detectadas, já que algumas hipóteses foram confirmadas, sugere-se a realização de novas pesquisas que explorem mais esse construto, tanto teoricamente como em relação a validade. 135 undergraduates, of both genders, were studied to explore validity evidences of a scale of cognitive styles in relation to personality traits. The two tests were collectively applied in classroom. The scale of cognitive styles assessed about the convergent, divergent, holist, serialist, reflexivity and impulsiveness styles; whereas the personality inventory of adjectives markers assessed the agreeableness, extraversion, conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness. Based on their definitions, nine correlations were expected to find among cognitive styles and personality traits. The obtained data did not show differences in the dimensions of cognitive style related to gender and age. Besides, 12 significant correlations were found, five of them confirming the hypotheses, but not the other ones. Although some validity evidences for the scale of cognitive styles have been detected, since some hypothesis were confirmed, the accomplishment of new researches is suggested to explore more that construct, considering both the theory and evidences of validity.
