Aim: To evaluate the salivary biomarkers and plaque index after a treatment with a propolis-contained toothpaste. Materials and Methods: This is a longitudinal, randomized, double-blind study where 76 participants were randomized into two groups: Group I: Fluoridated Red Propolis toothpaste; Group II: Fluoridated toothpaste. The participants were selected in a municipality without fluoridated public water. All participants received standardized oral hygiene instructions from the same instructor for 3 daily brushings (after breakfast, after lunch, and before bed) for a period of 2 min; Saliva samples were collected before (D0) and after 28 days (D28) of treatment for analysis of pH and total protein, amylase, and IL-10. Saliva was collected in the initial consultation and on return, totaling two collections. All samples were collected under the same conditions, by the same operator and between 9:00 am and 11:00 am in order to minimize the influence of circadian rhythm on salivary flow. Results: On D0 and D28, the various treatments had no effect on total salivary proteins (G1: P = 0.0746; G2: P = 0.2144), and the pH stayed about the same. Additionally, there was no change in the amylase activity in G1 (P = 0.1877) or G2 (P = 0.4674). Significant decreases in G1 (P < 0.0001) and G2 (P = 0.03) were observed with IL-10. There was no statistically significant difference in the salivary flow between the BRP toothpaste-treated group (P = 0.172) and the commercial fluoridated toothpaste-treated group (P = 0.329). Compared to G2 (P = 0.03), G1 showed a superior decline in the plaque index (P = <0.0001). Conclusions: After 28 days of using the toothpastes, there were no changes in the amylase, pH, or total protein indicators. After 28 days, there was a decrease in the propolis group’s IL-10 dose and plaque index. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction. Fluoride plays an important role in the control of dental caries, and currently new dentifrices are being associated with natural products. Objective. This study aimed to evaluate the availability of fluoride in saliva samples after using a dentifrice incorporated with Brazilian red propolis (BRP, INPI Patent no. BR1020170110974) and to compare it to a conventional fluoridated dentifrice in healthy participants. Methods. This study was conducted implementing a double-blind, randomized, controlled, and crossover design. Saliva samples of participants were collected at the following time points: 0 at baseline and 5, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes after brushing with each dentifrice. Salivary fluoride concentrations showed no statistically significant difference when comparing the two treatments (p>0.05). All available fluoride concentrations in saliva decreased after one hour, with no significant difference between BRP and conventional fluoridated dentifrice treatment samples (p>0.05). Results. The results showed that there was no difference between the analyzed fluoride concentrations 1 hour after brushing with the different dentifrices. Conclusions. The results of this study suggest that the propolis incorporated in the dentifrice did not interfere with the kinetics and bioavailability of the fluoride ion in saliva samples, enabling its integration with the pharmaceutical formula and thereby promoting its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits without compromising the anticaries activity of the formulation., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

The dental decay is a sugar-dependent condition that can be defined as the process of demineralization of the dental head office in the enamel and/or dentine induced by acid middle, presenting multiples factors that can modulate that road. The própolis comes as a responsible resin for the sealing of the beehives of bees (Apis mellifera), being originating from his/her collection in several types of vegetables. Now knowledge is had of at least 200 types of identified compositions in the própolis, starting from different geographical samples and of the botanical diversity. The chemical characterization of the própolis standardized constituent as: fenolics prenilads acids, lignans, terpens and terpenics alcohols , besides having derived p-curmarinics. Varnish base of natural products has been studied in researches in vitro as agents anti-decay. They were not found, in the literature, reports of the varnish use the base of Brazilian red própolis, as well as clinical rehearsals comparing those varnish the other ones. This study looked for to accomplish the development, clinical evaluation and microbiological of dental varnish of red própolis about reduction of streptococcus mutans in children, with purpose of prevention of the dental decay. It is a clinical rehearsal, randomized, double-blind and longitudinal, controlled. They were selected, for participation of the study, 99 children. Firstly he/she took place a pilot study to verify the best concentration of the própolis varnish to feel continuation to the clinical rehearsal in which the volunteers were divided in 3 groups accompanied by 360 days: clorexidina varnish, Fluor varnish and própolis varnish. There was expressive reduction of the microbial load, with statistical significance, of streptococcus mutans on 90 and 180 after the application of the própolis varnish in relation to the group treated with the clorexidina varnish and with the flúor varnish. Concui-if that dental varnish of Brazilian red própolis 2,5% were shown effective in the control of the units forming of colonies of Streptococcus mutans in the oral cavity, when used in the interval of 90 days.

Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the effectiveness of red propolis and xylitol chewable tablets in reducing concentrations of micro-organisms such as Streptococcus mutans (SM) and gram-negative bacteria (GNB). Methods: A total of 12 volunteers of both sexes presenting no caries (ICDAS II 0), users of fixed orthodontic appliances and with visible plaque index were randomly assigned to one of two groups. Was to determine the variations in the concentrations of SM and GNB in the saliva before and after the administration of the chewable tablets. The appearance of adverse reactions and side effects was analyzed. The Mann-Whitney (parametric) test was used for pairwise comparisons of means. The Wilxocon test was also used. Results: The study revealed that the propolis and xylitol chewable tablets had antimicrobial activity, reducing the concentration of GNB by -1.39 log10 CFU/mL (p = 0.036) and compared to placebo (p = 0.004698). There was a significant reduction of SM of -0.22 log10 CFU/mL (p = 0.031) and compared to placebo (p = 0.002165). Conclusion: Thus, in addition to the good safety profile, with a low rate of adverse effects, red propolis and xylitol tablets proved to be an effective potential low-cost alternative to combat dental caries and other periodontal diseases. CARIOGENIC agents ,XYLITOL ,CAVITY prevention ,ORGANIC acids ,DENTAL caries ,POWER resources ,BACTERIAL cells - Abstract
This work aimed to carry out a literature review correlating the use of xylitol with the prevention of dental caries, which is a chronic and multifactorial disease, caused by organic acids originated from the fermentation of dietary carbohydrates (dependent sucrose) by bacteria and, when associated with a limited ability to correct oral pH, lead to tooth decalcification, a process known as demineralization. The cariogenic potential of the oral microbiota is genetically determined and is accentuated by the availability of sucrose. Under these conditions, the metabolic pathways favor the reduction of pH, demineralization of the dental substrate and the synthesis of extracellular polysaccharides that act as an energy supply and adhesive strategy. Xylitol is an alcoholic sugar that hardly undergoes fermentation by oral bacteria. Therefore, it has been recommended as a substitute for sugar, especially when food is eaten between meals, helping to prevent tooth decay. The antimicrobial activity of xylitol occurs when the compound is incorporated into the bacterial cell, through the phosphorylation process in the glycolytic pathway of the bacterium, forming xylitol-5-phosphate, that is not metabolized by any enzyme, characterizing it as an intermediate compound. Xylitol is a safe nutrient for human use, and several studies have analyzed the influence of xylitol in dental caries prevention. However, there is a need for more robust clinical trials for the evaluation of the effectiveness of xylitol under ideal conditions propitious to its use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study was to carry out a prospective study on the patents reports of homeopathic formulations in the brazilian intellectual property bank, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). Methods: This is a prospective research of patents referring to homeopathy products and medicines carried in May 2020. Searches were made for patents deposited with homeopathic purpose with the terms "homeopathy" and "homeopathic" from the first document until the last one deposited in 2019. We have found thirty-eight deposits with the search terms cited above, after exclusion of duplicates we selected twenty four. Results: Among the 24 patent reports selected, 15 (62.5%) were patents of invention. Among the classification of products, we highlight those of type A61K with 19 (79.1%). Twenty-four deposits were selected with the search terms "homeopathy" and "homeopathic". 20 (83.3%) deposits with the term "homeopathic" and 4 (16.66%) to the term "homeopathy". Among the reports stand out patents of homeopathic formulations 14 (58.3%). There were a greater number of deposits in the years 2009 and 2013, both with 4 (16.6%) deposits. Conclusion: After analyzing patents on homeopathic products at the intellectual property bank in Brazil, it is concluded that most are related to new formulations. It can be seen that in Brazil the interest in relation to the protection of intellectual property in this topic is still small. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BRUXISM ,ORAL habits ,ZIKA virus infections ,MEDICAL personnel ,CONGENITAL disorders ,SENSORY disorders ,MUSCULOSKELETAL system diseases - Abstract
Zikavirus infection during pregnancy generates a series of neurological, musculoskeletal and sensory disorders known as Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome (CZVS), being responsible for even oral changes. This study aims to review the literature to address the relationship between congenital Zika and the development of bruxism in childhood. To achieve this goal, a research was carried out by means of Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), PubMed and Google Scholar databases, using the keywords “Zika Virus Infection”, “Bruxism” and “Dentistry”. After a critical reading of papers and abstracts, a total of 15 articles considered relevant to the theme were selected and they were published in the last 5 years. Bruxism reaches a prominent level in several studies, with its prevalence varying between 20.3% and 100% in the clinical articles analyzed. Claiming it is a recent condition studied, there are still few studies evaluating this incidence in pediatric patients with CZVS, but there are already strong indications of this relationship, and it is extremely important to assess these factors and approach the case in partnership with a multidisciplinary team when necessary. In conclusion, there is evidence of a relationship between bruxism and SCZV, and the integration of different health professionals in the monitoring of these syndromic children is essential to better diagnose and intervene in the associated conditions, including treating this parafunctional oral habit more effectively and the impacts of this condition on the quality of life of the patient and the caregiver. Oral-maxillo-facial specialty aims at diagnosing and treating diseases, trauma, injury and congenital and acquired anomalies, of the masticatory apparatus, its annexes and associated structures. Multidisciplinary follow-up in postoperatively is necessary to prevent infections, aesthetic deformities and functional changes resulting from surgery and etiology for which it was nominated. Reporting the functional changes and intra-hospital therapeutic approach in the postoperative period of an oralmaxillo-facial service. We conducted a field survey, documentary, cross-sectional and quantitative with patients in post-operative oral-maxillo-facial surgery who were in the infirmary units in the General Hospital of Fortaleza (HGF). Data were collected from medical records of patients through a statement made by its own researchers. Data were statistically analyzed by the software Statistical Package for The Social Science (SPSS), version 20. We analyzed 26 medical records. Most patients were male, 14 (53,8%). The most prevalent age group was between 35 to 49 years old with 11 (42,3%) from the patients. The most frequent causes of oral-maxillo-facial disorders were the physical aggressions and falls, with eight (30,8%) patients each. The jaw was the most affected place, with nine (34,6%) cases. From the most affected movement limitations we find the mouth opening 9 (34,6%), as the most restricted movement. There was a predominance of male patients, aged between 35 and 49, affected by physical assaults and falls that led to the trauma. The presence of limitations was significant, making it clear the need for physiotherapy monitoring.

Local anesthetics are commonly used in surgical procedures, they are able to promote a reversible blockade of nerve conduction, with loss of sensation in circumscribed area of the body without changing the individual's level of consciousness. The aim of this study was to review the literature that can compose the body of evidence on efficacy and safety of Lipid Emulsion (ELI) for use as an antidote in the treatment of intoxication by local anesthetics and other lipofílicos. Trata is a review drugs literature that we used the Fat Emulsions terms Intravenous AND Antidotes for the search in the following databases: Pubmed; Cochrane Library and Trip Database and were raised studies found in these bases until November 2015. The review conducted showed that the use of ELI as an antidote seems to be a possible alternative for the treatment of poisoning caused by local anesthetics and other lipophilic drugs. Recently the ELI have been used also as an antidote against cardiovascular collapse induced by bupivacaine and other local anesthetics lipophilic. Early studies reported more frequently the use of Intralipid®, intravenously, which is sold in formulations containing soybean oil at different concentrations (10, 20 or 30%) in admixture with other lipids and phospholipids. The effects produced by Intralipid® have also been attributed to other lipid emulsions of formulations composed of different extracts of oils. However, current evidence supporting this use are scarce and uncertain, pointing to the need for additional studies. With respect to this fact, recently the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology.

The energy density of low power, laser and electromagnetic field , has been used in recent years quite often in the medical field . The study of labeling red blood cells with technetium 99m is used for various evaluations in nuclear medicine including the study of blood volume in neurological intensive care . The aim was to evaluate the in fluence of non - ionizing radiation on the red blood cells labeled in vitro . B lood samples from rats of the Wistar strain divided into two groups were used. The first group used the EDTA and heparin as anticoagulants and received low - power laser induction ( L PL) in the following separately energy density : 3, 6, 9 and 18J/cm². The second group received an electromagnetic field (EMF ) of 60 Hz for 2, 4 , 17 and 21 hours separately . After the induction of the laser and the electromagnetic field , the blood samples w ere labeled with technetium - 99m ( 99mTc). The results indicate that the presence of anticoagulants is able to modify the uptake of technetium - 99m by red blood cells . The laser induced decreases the binding capacity of the technetium - 99m from 3J/cm². From th e foregoing it was found that the radiation is non - ionizing EMF with LBP or alters the binding capacity of 99mTc the erythrocytes and the use of heparin as an anticoagulant gave also a higher labeling efficiency compared with the use of EDTA.The non - ionizi ng radiation has a promising power applications of biomedical sciences can be used for marking targets macromolecules in the body in order to diagnostic procedures and disease control.

Objective: The present work has as objective to evaluate the influence of the drying process of the granules in the drying stove and in the fluidized bed, as well as, as stages of compression in the formation of nimesulide drug polymorphism. Method: Two tests, TB02 and TB06 were produced in the same way, from weighing to granulation, but during the drying process the TB02 test was dried using the fluidized bed, while the TB06 test was oven dried. X-ray diffraction tests show that, in all samples, the nimesulide active remains crystalline. Result: Although both batches of test drugs show 85% release of nimesulide in 30 mins and the coefficient of variation values for the TB06 test weight and hardness tests are lower than the TB02 test, it was observed that the TB02 test showed the greater similarity factor (F2) when compared to the reference drug. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded that the fluidized bed as a drying apparatus shows a greater efficiency and that the test drug TB02 can be considered as a pharmaceutical alternative to the reference medicine. Equivalência Terapêutica ,Disponibilidade Biológica - Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2 is a syndrome which may be defined as a condition of heterogeneous metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion and action, or both. Metformin is the drug of choice for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and it is the oral antihyperglyciemic most widely prescribed, due to their favorable toxicity profile and efficacy. Bioavailability studies have several functions including assessment of drugs bioequivalence, evaluation of drugs with new active principles and evaluating new formulations. This study aimed to assess the bioavailability of a formulation of metformin hydrochloride 850 mg film coated tablets, called test formulation, versus a reference formulation in the national market with the same dose of the drug in healthy volunteers of both genders. This is a clinical trial open-type, randomized, crossed, two-period, two-sequence, in which the volunteers received in each distinct period of 01 film coated tablet formulation of 01 test or reference formulation. The formulations were administered in a single oral dose, followed by blood sampling, at least four half-lives of study drug. The treatment periods obeyed an interval of seven half-lives, between them (washout). The metformin plasma concentrations were measured by a specific and validated analytical method based on high efficiency liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (HELC / MS). The data from this study reveal that the test formulation and the reference formulation showed similar results within the variation limits provided in the regulator norms (80-125%) for AUCinf (area under the curve) and Cmax (maximum serum concentration of drug). Thus, it will be possible ensure interchangeability between the formulations, which could lead to market competition and therefore more competitive prices and easy access to the drug.
