With the goal of optimizing protocols, fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) was performed under field conditions in a study to evaluate conception rates in Girolando (5/8) heifers (18 to 24 months of age) treated with estradiol benzoate (BE) to induce ovulation. Forty heifers were allocated to 2 groups with 20 animals each: GI-sexed semen (2 million spermatozoa/dose) and GII-nonsexed semen (20 million spermatozoa/dose), with body condition score (BCS) of 3.0 ± 0.14 (scale of 1 to 5), middleweight of 335 ± 38 kg, so that it was made for reutilization of progesterone device. On Day 0 (morning), the animals received 2.0 mg of BE (RIC-BE®,Tecnopec, São Paulo, Brazil), 0.075 mg of D-cloprostenol (Prolise®, ARSA S.R.L., Buenos Aires, Argentina), and an intravaginal device of 1 g of progesterone (Primer®, Tecnopec). On Day 8 (morning) the device was removed and 0.075 mg of D-cloprostenol was managed in the GI animals, then these animals received 1.0 mg of BE 24 h after device removal. The insemination was in the late afternoon of Day 10 with a 6-hour delay (4 to 6 pm). The GII animals received Primer previously used for 8 days (being used in the GI animals under the same protocol). After pregnancy diagnosis at 60 days, a third group was created (GIII) using the not-pregnant animals of GI and GII. In GIII, Primer from third use [disinfected in solution Kilol®-L 1:250 (Quinabra, São Paulo, Brazil) and rinsed with water, dried, and packed in plastic sacks and kept for 60 days] was used following the GI protocol with sexed semen. There were no significant differences (P> 0.05) in the conception rates of 40, 58, and 65% among groups GI (8/20), GII (11/20), and GIII (13/20). These results indicate very good conception rates for heifers, contrary to recommendations of commercial companies of sexed semen that alert for the conception rate for mated animals to be lower when using FTAI and mating protocols in mass, compared with that of AI after estrus observation. Generally, medicinal plants are harvested with high amount of water, so it is essential to subject the product to drying as soon as possible to prevent degradation before application. Most compounds from medicinal plants are sensitive to drying processes, so it is important to adjust the drying conditions. The objective of this study was to describe the drying of Rue (Ruta chalepensis L.) leaves, select the models that best fit each drying condition, determine the activation energy and thermodynamic properties of the leaves, and evaluate their quality after drying. Leaves were harvested with moisture content of 3.55 ± 0.05 kg water kg -1 dry matter and subjected to drying at temperatures of 40, 50, 60 and 70 °C. Valcam model showed the best fit to represent the drying kinetics of Rue leaves at temperatures of 40 and 70 °C, and Midilli model proved to be better for the temperatures of 50 and 60 °C. Effective diffusion coefficient increased linearly with the increase in drying air temperature, and the activation energy was 60.58 kJ mol -1 . Enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs free energy values ranged from 57.973 to 57.723 kJ mol -1 , from - 0.28538 to - 0.28614 kJ mol -1  K -1 and from 147.34 to 155.91 kJ mol -1 , respectively, for the temperature range of 40-70 °C. Pterodon pubescens is a native Brazilian species typical of the cerrado biome, belonging to the Leguminosae-Papilionoideae (Fabaceae) family and popularly known as sucupira branca or faveiro. Its seeds exhibit different integument colors, which may exhibit a direct association to physiological quality related to higher germination percentage rates, vigor, and germination speed index (GSI). Therefore, selection and evaluation methods concerning P. pubescens seed quality are required for the preservation of this species. In this context, the aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between P. pubescens seed integument color and seed quality, through a combination of radiographic imaging and physiological, histochemical and biochemical assays. P. pubescens seeds were obtained from five matrices, and visually classified into four color classes, yellow, light brown, dark brown and black. The coordinates "L", "a" and "b", indicated by the colorimeter and the calculations of the chroma and hue angle values, verified that there was a difference in the color of the seeds, eliminating the subjectivity of the visual classification. Thus, the clearer the integuments, the greater their density, filling and α-amylase and β-amylase hydrolytic enzyme activities, the latter comprising important germination power indicators, in addition to high ascorbate peroxidase (APX) enzyme activities, responsible for hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) elimination. Because of this, lighter colored seeds led to higher vigor, germination and GSI rates. The removal of darker seeds from P. pubescens seed lots guarantees higher germination rates and vigor of new plants in nurseries destined to recompose P. pubescens populations.

During the burning of the organic material (firewood) in the drying, combustion may occur incompletely, thus generating smoke contaminants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the furnaces. This study aimed to identify possible contamination by PAHs in soybean grains from storage units in municipalities in the Midwest region that have undergone drying in a direct-fired furnace with firewood as fuel. The soybean grains were collected in different municipalities of the Midwest region of Brazil, totaling 22 samples. A survey of possible contamination of soybean grains by PAHs was carried out using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with three replicates, and the data were subjected to analysis of variance, with means compared by Tukey test. The sum of the groups was: PAH4 - 1.45 μg kg -1 for Edéia (2), PAH8 - 2.97 μg kg -1 for Catalão (19) and PAHT - 5.06 μg kg -1 for Edéia (2); for benzo(a)pyrene, the sum was below 2.0 μg kg -1 , not exceeded by the value of 0.64 μg kg -1 for Edéia (1). Cerrado biome represents an area with great biodiversity. Some of its plants have significant ethnopharmacological uses, with specific purposes. Croton urucurana Baill., for instance, was previously acknowledged for its anti-hemorrhagic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, healing, and potentially antifungal and entomopathogenic actions. Nevertheless, the compounds supporting these empirical applications are still unknown. Accordingly, this work was designed to achieve a complete characterization of the phenolic profile of different botanical tissues obtained from C. urucurana , and also to verify how different operational conditions (different drying temperatures and extraction conditions) affect that profile. All samples were further characterized by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MSn, and results were compared by advanced chemometric tools. In general, the drying temperatures that maximize the extraction yield of specific individual phenolic compounds were established. Likewise, it was possible to verify that samples extracted with the hydroethanolic solution allowed higher phenolic yields, either in individual compounds (except (epi)catechin-di- O -gallate) or total phenolics. The identification of the best operational conditions and phenolic profiles associated with each C. urucurana botanical part contributes to enabling their use in food or pharmaceutical-related applications.

This is the fifth case of the Bernard-Soulier syndrome to be described in the literature. The ante-natal period, the delivery and post-partum course without any complications. The platelet concentrations were used ante-natally and after delivery.
