Abstract

We investigate Poincar\'e series, where we average products of terms of Fourier series of real-analytic Siegel modular forms. There are some (trivial) special cases for which the products of terms of Fourier series of elliptic modular forms and harmonic Maass forms are almost holomorphic, in which case the corresponding Poincar\'e series are almost holomorphic as well. In general this is not the case. The main point of this paper is the study of Siegel-Poincar\'e series of degree $2$ attached to products of terms of Fourier series of harmonic Siegel-Maass forms and holomorphic Siegel modular forms. We establish conditions on the convergence and nonvanishing of such Siegel-Poincar\'e series. We surprisingly discover that these Poincar\'e series are almost holomorphic Siegel modular forms, although the product of terms of Fourier series of harmonic Siegel-Maass forms and holomorphic Siegel modular forms (in contrast to the elliptic case) is not almost holomorphic. Our proof employs tools from representation theory. In particular, we determine some constituents of the tensor product of Harish-Chandra modules with walls.

25. Ligand-receptor binding kinetics in surface plasmon resonance cells: A Monte Carlo analysis

Abstract

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) chips are widely used to measure association and dissociation rates for the binding kinetics between two species of chemicals, e.g., cell receptors and ligands. It is commonly assumed that ligands are spatially well mixed in the SPR region, and hence a mean-field rate equation description is appropriate. This approximation however ignores the spatial fluctuations as well as temporal correlations induced by multiple local rebinding events, which become prominent for slow diffusion rates and high binding affinities. We report detailed Monte Carlo simulations of ligand binding kinetics in an SPR cell subject to laminar flow. We extract the binding and dissociation rates by means of the techniques frequently employed in experimental analysis that are motivated by the mean-field approximation. We find major discrepancies in a wide parameter regime between the thus extracted rates and the known input simulation values. These results underscore the crucial quantitative importance of spatio-temporal correlations in binary reaction kinetics in SPR cell geometries, and demonstrate the failure of a mean-field analysis of SPR cells in the regime of high Damk\"ohler number Da > 0.1, where the spatio-temporal correlations due to diffusive transport and ligand-receptor rebinding events dominate the dynamics of SPR systems.

26. Dual weights in the theory of harmonic Siegel modular forms

Abstract

We define harmonic Siegel modular forms based on a completely new approach using vector-valued covariant operators. The Fourier expansions of such forms are investigated for two distinct slash actions. Two very different reasons are given why these slash actions are natural. We prove that they are related by xi-operators that generalize the xi-operator for elliptic modular forms. We call them dual slash actions or dual weights, a name which is suggested by the many properties that parallel the elliptic case. Based on Kohnen's limit process for real-analytic Siegel Eisenstein series, we show that, under mild assumptions, Jacobi forms can be obtained from harmonic Siegel modular forms, generalizing the classical Fourier-Jacobi expansion. The resulting Fourier-Jacobi coefficients are harmonic Maass-Jacobi forms, which are defined in full generality in this work. A compatibility between the various xi-operators for Siegel modular forms, Jacobi forms, and elliptic modular forms is deduced, relating all three kinds of modular forms.

Abstract

The indications for and type and amount of fluid resuscitation for trauma patients in the field remains highly controversial. There is unanimity, however, that trauma victims may suffer from acute blood loss. In addition to stopping the bleeding fluid resuscitation is the second mainstay in shock therapy. The insertion of 1 or 2 large-bore i.v. lines is indicated for manifest or threatening shock. Patients without signs of bleeding or hemorrhagic shock do not require fluid replacement therapy. Blood losses from bleeding that has ceased or has been stopped by compression or self-tamponade should be substituted. In uncontrolled bleeding from intraabdominal, pelvic or other internal sources immediate transport to a trauma center is required. In such situations many experts favour a goal-oriented approach of permissive hypotension aiming at a systolic blood pressure of 70-90 mmHg. In patients with severe traumatic brain injury a goal-oriented fluid resuscitation (mean arterial blood pressure of 90 mmHg) is presently recommended. Additional doses of catecholamines may be needed. Crystalloids are the recommended choice of fluid. In the presence of a suspected blood loss of more than 2 L the additional administration of colloids is suggested. However, the impact of colloids and of hyperosmolar colloid solutions with regard to survival of traumatized patients has not yet been determined.

30. Histamine in hemorrhagic shock - A new approach with microdialysis

Abstract

Microdialysis is a new approach for monitoring after hemorrhagic shock. The advantage of microdialysis is the local measurement of microcirculation and local changes of mediators. Until now this was mostly used in neuromonitoring. In this experiment we were focussed on the local changes of histamine in the liver after hemorrhagic shock by female pigs. Histamine is a vasoactive mediator which is well described in septic shock. The role of histamine after hemorrhagic shock is rarely known. Especially changes of histamine in the liver after shock is from our knowledge not clear. We could show, that after a short peak by placing the probes in the liver histamine increased in shock and we could further see, that we get two different reactions of histamine in the liver in shock depending on the position of the probes. Central placed probes do not show a relevant increase of histamine during hemorrhagic shock. If probes are placed in periphery regions of the liver microdialysis shows a significant increase of histamine by those animals, which die in an early phase after shock. Surviving animals do not get such an increase of histamine. In our experiment histamine had a prognostic value by peripheral placed probes in the liver after hemorrhagic shock.
