IntroductionThe purpose of this study is to determine baseline demographics and utilization trend of an on-demand, synchronous tele-ophthalmology triage program in evaluating acute ophthalmic concerns during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.MethodsSetting: Single-center retrospective chart review of telemedicine visits conducted by ophthalmologists and optometrists from University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Patient population: 6227 patients comprised 7138 telehealth encounters. All patient encounters were included in the retrospective review without exclusions and only the primary diagnoses were categorized from October 1, 2020 to April 30, 2023. Main outcomes measures: Descriptive statistics of the telemedicine model, utilization trends, baseline patient demographics, and primary diagnoses were performed for all virtual eye care encounters during the study period.ResultsUtilization of the synchronous telemedicine platform increased during the study period. The median age of patients was 51 (IQR, 36-65) years. Patients predominantly self-identified as female (63.27%), White (72.7%), and non-Hispanic/Latino (48.2%). General external adnexa (44.1%), conjunctival disorders (15.5%) and ocular surface symptoms (15.4%), made up 75.0% of the visits during the study period. Furthermore, 63.4% of patients were new to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, 67.1% had never engaged in telemedicine, and 96.5% of encounters were successfully completed through video conferencing.DiscussionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, there was significant utilization of an on-demand synchronous ocular telemedicine program to address acute concerns. This retrospective chart review demonstrates the utility of telemedicine as an important and effective tool to triage and provide care during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

Advertising for dental services in Jordan is subject to regulation. Dental professionals must obtain approval from their respective councils before initiating any advertising campaigns to ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards. Although the dental advertising landscape in Jordan has made considerable progress, research on dentists' perspectives regarding advertising in the country remains limited. This preliminary research specifically evaluates four factors: dentists' perspectives on advertising, the correlation between dentists' demographics and their viewpoints, their preferred advertising channels, and the prevalence of dental advertising. Additionally, it aims to address the rationale behind certain restrictions on dental advertising. A comprehensive online survey was conducted among a simple random sample of 206 Jordanian dentists, focusing on their attitudes toward various aspects of dental advertising. The attitude of dentists toward advertising has become increasingly favourable compared to the past. The study revealed a general acceptance of dental advertising, with 79.1 % of dentists considering it appropriate. Proponents of advertising argue that it benefits the community by enhancing the quality of dental services (51.9 %), lowering prices through competition (26.7 %), providing educational information (74.3 %), and assisting the community in making informed choices (59.7 %). Conversely, critics contend that advertising undermines the public's perception of the profession (33.9 %) and diminishes the trustworthiness of dentists (24.7 %). Male dentists, senior practitioners, specialists, middle-income professionals, and those with over 10 years of clinical experience were more likely to support advertising practices. Additionally, digital marketing platforms were favoured over traditional advertising channels. The attitudes of Jordanian dentists toward advertising and practice promotion are evolving, with a growing acceptance of marketing as an essential tool for practice growth. However, ethical considerations and regulatory compliance remain paramount, especially in digital marketing.

Conclusion: High BRAF mRNA expression as well as the gain and high-level amplification copy numbers were associated with advanced tumor characteristics and unfavorable prognostic factors in breast cancer. BRAF could be an appealing target for the treatment of premenopausal patients with hormone receptor–negative breast cancer.

Enzyme function can be altered via modification of its amino acid residues, side chains and large-scale domain modifications. Herein, we have addressed the role of residue modification in catalytic activity and molecular recognition of an enzyme alpha-chymotrypsin (CHT) in presence of a covalent cross-linker formalin. Enzyme assay reveals reduced catalytic activity upon increased formalin concentration. Polarization gated anisotropy studies of a fluorophore 8-Anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) in CHT show a dip rise pattern in presence of formalin which is consistent with the generation of multiple ANS binding sites in the enzyme owing to modifications of its local amino acid residues. Molecular docking study on amino acid residue modifications in CHT also indicate towards the formation of multiple ANS binding site. The docking model also predicted no change in binding behavior for the substrate Ala-Ala-Phe-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin (AMC) at the active site upon formalin induced amino acid cross-linking.

Nurses play a crucial role in the adoption and continued use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs), especially in developing countries. Existing literature scarcely addresses how personality traits and organisational support influence nurses' decision to persist with EHR use in these regions. This study developed a model combining the Five-Factor Model (FFM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to explore the impact of personality traits and organisational support on nurses' continuance intention to use EHR systems. Data were collected via a self-reported survey from 472 nurses across 10 public hospitals in Jordan and analyzed using a structural equation modeling approach (Smart PLS-SEM 4). The analysis revealed that personality traits, specifically Openness, Experience, and Conscientiousness, significantly influence nurses' decisions to continue using EHR systems. Furthermore, organisational support, enhanced by Performance Expectancy and Facilitating Conditions, positively affected their ongoing commitment to EHR use. The findings underscore the importance of considering individual personality traits and providing robust organisational support in promoting sustained EHR usage among nurses. These insights are vital for healthcare organisations aiming to foster a conducive environment for EHR system adoption, thereby enhancing patient care outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The escalating incidence of bacterial resistance to commonly prescribed antibiotics underscores the urgent need for the rapid development of innovative antibacterial medications. Heterocyclic compounds, particularly nitrogen‐containing heterocycles like pyrazoles and thiazoles, have garnered attention for their diverse biological activities, including antimicrobial properties. Here, we present a green and efficient multicomponent synthesis method for fourteen novel benzothiazole‐tethered pyrazole derivatives. Utilizing the deep eutectic solvent glycerol/K2CO3 as a base‐catalytic reaction medium at 70 °C, this synthesis approach yielded promising compounds exhibiting substantial antimicrobial activity against various pathogenic microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Candida albicans. Among these, 4‐(benzo[d]thiazol‐2‐yl)‐3‐(4‐nitrophenyl)‐1‐phenyl‐1H‐pyrazol‐5‐amine emerged as the most promising candidate, showcasing significant inhibitory potentials with CZD values of 24 mm, 21 mm, and 26 mm for S. aureus, B. cereus, and C. albicans, respectively. Molecular docking studies further supported the experimental observations, revealing the high binding affinity of the compound to the nitroreductase enzyme with a binding score of −8.5 kcal/mol. These findings underscore the potential of these synthesized compounds as antimicrobial agents and suggest avenues for future research in exploring their structure‐activity relationships and therapeutic applications in combating bacterial infections. Abstract Background Thiazoles, thiazolidinones and azetidinones are highly ranked amongst natural and synthetic heterocyclic derivatives due to their great pharmaceutical potential. Results New thiazolidinone and azetidinone class of bioactive agents based on 4-(2,7-dichloro-9H-fluoren-4-yl)thiazole moiety have been successfully synthesized. 4-(2,7-dichloro-9H-fluoren-4-yl)thiazol-2-amine was synthesized and allowed to react with various aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes to afford the corresponding Schiff base intermediates. The target thiazolidinone and azetidinone analogues have derived from Schiff bases by their reactions with thioglycolic acid and chloroacetyl chloride, respectively. The newly synthesized compounds were then evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against some multidrug resistant strains and examined for cytotoxic activity against normal lung fibroblast (WI-38), human lung carcinoma (A549), and human breast carcinoma (MDA-MB-231) cell lines to develop a novel class of fluorene-based bioactive agents. The mode of action and the binding interaction of the synthesized compound with the active sites of dihydrofolate reductase enzyme were well identified by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis and molecular docking study. Conclusion Some of the synthesized compounds showed remarkable activity against A-549 and MDA-MB-231 when compared to Taxol, which was used as a reference drug. 2,7-dichloro-9H-fluorene-based azetidinones are more efficient as antimicrobial and anticancer agents compared to dichloro-9H-fluorene-based thiazolidinones derivatives.
