When providing on-demand content on the internet, radio broadcasters risk losing the inherent flow of radio programs. Radio broadcasters have to understand how to automate editorial decisions and how to integrate them into personalized playouts. We conducted qualitative content analysis on radio content to identify sequences using pattern mining techniques. Based on the patterns of radio shows we identified, we propose an approach for automating editorial decisions to leverage the potential of value co-creation between broadcaster (in form of editorial value) and listener (in form of personalized content) in interactive internet radio. Radio propaganda clearly played a role in the Rwandan genocide of 1994 in which over a million people, mainly Tutsi, were killed. Foreign media and many commentators saw the propaganda as based on ethnic difference. Through an analysis of eighty-six Radio Rwanda and Radio-Télévision Libre des Milles Collines broadcasts, the author shows how reliance on one explanation – be it of ethnicity, politics, ‘race’ or occupation – falls short and oversimplifies. She argues that in fact the broadcasts ‘othered’ the target group by simultaneously drawing on multiple constructions of Hutu and Tutsi identities from many periods in Rwanda’s history. Between 1934 and 1944, prominent marine zoologist William John Dakin occupied a public role as an Australian Broadcasting Commission radio commentator. For 10 years during the pioneering days of national radio, he broadcast his opinions, convictions, and idiosyncratic theories about science and society to the Australian public. At a time when the place of the sea in white Australia's history and culture was little-spoken about, Dakin used the influential new media channel of radio to reinforce the place of the ocean in Australian life. Of specific interest is the unorthodox way he positioned Australian identity in relation to the sea rather than the land. Also unconventional in the 1930s were his claims about human biological evolution from the sea. The concept of play mediates between deliberation as a mode of reason and resistance as a mode of culture, thus opening a way to think about hostile comment (e.g., ‘flaming’) on online news forums as normal patterns of behaviour, instead of a departure from the received view of how citizens ought to consider matters of public interest. The play concept corresponds with current thinking around the notion of cultural citizenship. To illustrate the relevance of play theory in the analysis of online political discourse, this article uses an example from recent posts concerning the Protection of Information Bill (POIB) in the online site of the South AfricanMail & Guardiannewspaper. The cogency of play theory to the concept of citizenship is argued through a discussion of how citizenship has been understood from the 1930s to the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the improved capacities of information and communications technologies (ICTs) made online deliberation a normal site for citizenship to be exercised. The aim of this paper is to advance in the study of the formal features of the radio comments, a genre that appeared in Spanish talk radio programming in the late 90s and that has now become a key piece in any news, sports or entertainment program. From a more particular perspective, we are interested in analyzing the colloquial register as a stylistic constant that can be found in many comments, despite being highly planned texts, to humanize the texts, making them closer and more familiar to the audience. In the wake of its decision to fire veteran political commentator Juan Williams, NPR came under fire from all quarters for its seemingly incongruous decision. Dubbed by conservatives as an unveiled attempt to remove Williams because of his professional role as commentator on the right-wing FOX news network, NPR was unprepared for the vitriolic outpouring of outrage from its listeners and critics. Finding itself under attack, NPR had little choice but to defend its decision and issue forth its own attack on William's work and character as a NPR political commentator. This article concerns the radio broadcast as mediated sports event. In particular, it has to do with the ways in which meaning is constructed in ball by ball cricket commentary in the BBC broadcast Test Match Special (TMS). Its central concerns are: the extent to which the live radio broadcast can be considered a narrative; how does TMS narratively construct the Test match; and what is the relationship between this construction and the discourses which frame meaning? The article discusses vividness of language heard in the radio commentaries of commentators which include Edward R. Murrow, Fulton Lewis, Jr., and Lowell Thomas. Murrow's reporting is broken into two parts namely reporting and editorial, and he rarely use colorful adjectives. It states that Lewis does not depend on figures of speech and regularly uses trite cliches. The verbs and adjectives used by Thomas are said to be more definite, less whimsical, and more violent.

In recent years, information radio in Puerto Rico has increased their opinion programming and downsized newsrooms. As a result, partisan commentators' opinions dominate the audiences' information diet. Using the hierarchy of influences model, this study examined how forces at the media organization level shaped news/talk radio content. In-depth interviews with radio workers revealed that ownership, finances, and editorial leaning impacted content, causing the displacement of formal news programs and the consolidation of an offer based on political commentary and opinion. En los últimos años, la radio de información en Puerto Rico ha aumentado su programación de opinión y ha reducido sus salas de redacción. Como resultado, las opiniones de los comentaristas partidistas dominan la dieta informativa de las audiencias. Utilizando el modelo de jerarquía de influencias, este estudio examinó cómo las fuerzas a nivel de la organización de los medios daban forma al contenido de la programación radial. Entrevistas en profundidad a trabajadores de radio revelaron que la titularidad por propiedad, las finanzas y la inclinación editorial impactaron contenidos de manera que provocaron el desplazamiento de los informativos formales y la consolidación de una oferta basada en el comentario y la opinión política.
