Many workers in different occupational sectors are exposed to potentially dangerous noise levels, a careful Risk Assessment and Management, resulting quality measures and programs should be developed to protect them from noise induced hearing loss. The characterization of the noise source allows to establish a rigorous quality and control program, and can help you quickly understand when to implement noise mitigation measures. For this reason, an acoustic mitigation action was carried out on an industrial machine with a view to soundproofing the entire operating unit of the company.

The many ways in which learning is distinguished and characterized require new forms of teaching, which can satisfy the characteristics and peculiarities of each person. Educational contexts such as schools and universities should respect these different forms of learning by focusing at new way of teaching, which do not merely transmit knowledge as a mere accumulation of information. For subjects with Specific Learning Disabilities, there is a need to search for and prepare adequate didactic tools and strategies that can support the main needs of the subject in a personal, emotional and relational context.

The revised dose limit in interventional radiology recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection imposes new studies in the implementation of protocols for the radiological protection of operators. The aim is to assess the eye lens dose for different operators of interventional radiology: vascular and neuro radiologists, cardiologists, anesthetists, nurses. Dose measurements were performed with thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) calibrated in Hp(0.07). The correlation between eye lens dose and environmental dose, measured by an ionizing chamber, was also investigated. A cohort of 15 operators from different interventional radiology units were enrolled. Operators of the hemodynamic unit received a much lower dose compared to the dose administered to the vascular and neuro radiology unit. A weak correlation was found between eye lens dose and environmental dose as measured in interventional suite of vascular radiology. Although it would always be better to use dosimeters calibrated in Hp (3), the use of calibrated dosimeters in Hp (0.07) can be a useful tool in the evaluation of the eye lens dose in interventional radiology. Furthermore, the results obtained emphasize that the appropriate use of protective equipment significantly lowers the absorbed eye lens dose. For this reason, this study aims to raise awareness of the importance of radiation protection in interventional radiology.

Introduction: Radiotherapy is increasingly used for the treatment of cancer patients and more and more personalized treatments are being developed to improve the patient’s quality of life. Today, the medical community is moving toward VMAT plans, which allow to deliver the prescription dose to the tumor and to spare surrounding healthy tissues. In this context the development of autoplanning system is desirable. Method and results: In this work we report the implementation, in the TPS RayStation, of the autoplanning algorithm that creates high quality plans, when brain metastases are involved. Conclusion: At the state of the art, the AP codes can be intended to lighten the work of the medical physicist so that he can refine the plan previously elaborated in AP modality or devote himself to more delicate situations.

Introduction: For the first time, the Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom focuses on the risk to human health deriving from exposure to radon in homes, promoting the adoption of more stringent actions for the public awareness about indoor radon risk. Although the directive has not been transposed in Italy yet, some regions e.g. Campania, independently have issued a regional decree (n.13 of 2019) to comply with this lack. Method and results: In this study, the results of a survey on the public's knowledge about the risks associated with exposure to radon collected during two scientific dissemination events “Researchers' Night” (September 2019) and “Futuro Remoto” (November 2019) in Naples, South Italy, are reported.

In order to characterize soil samples collected in two different agricultural areas of Potenza suburbs (Southern Italy) devoted to durum wheat cultivation, we used the combination of two techniques: magnetic susceptibility measurements and effective radium concentration obtained from radon emanation. Magnetic susceptibility measurements are generally used as a proxy method for monitoring heavy metals in soil. Radium concentration and radon exhalation rate from soil are used for characterizing different soils. First results suggest that effective radium concentrations in soils can be helpful for the interpretation of magnetic susceptibility field surveys.

Summary Public health technical expertise is of crucial importance to inform decision makers’ action in the field of health and its broader determinants. Improving education and training of public health professionals for both practice and research is the starting point to strengthen the role of public health so that current health challenges can be efficiently tackled. At the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) Deans’ & Directors’ 2017 Annual Retreat, we presented the structure and management of public health training system in Italy, and we reported recent data on Italian public health specialists’ educational experience, employment opportunities and job satisfaction. Public health training in Italy is implemented in the context of the post-graduate medical education residency programme in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, delivered by 34 University-based Schools of Public Health. We report relatively high employment rates across the county and wide spectrum of career opportunities for young public health specialists. However, job security is low and training expectations only partially met. We call upon other Schools of Public Health to scale up the survey within the broad ASPHER community in a shared and coordinated action of systematically collecting useful data that can inform the development of public health education and training models, their implementation and fruitful interaction with population health, health systems and services.

Introduction: Hearing loss, arterial hypertension, stress, sleep disturbance, and impaired cognitive performance. Material and methods: The occupational noise exposure study was carried out at paint factory after the acoustic remediation action. The equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level was done according to Italian legislation on occupational safety and UNI 9432:2011 standard; The daily cumulative noise exposure dose was evaluated for each group of workers with different work tasks. Results: The equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure levels were lower than 85 dB that is the which is the value above which the Italian law requires the use of personal protection device. The results obtained show that all the workers grouped for work tasks fall into the classes of non-significant (ICA =0) or low (ICA =1) noise risk. Conclusion: The study showed that the implementation of acoustic reclamation, if well designed, can significantly reduce worker exposure to noise.
