Abstract Hydrogen, a clean resource with high energy density, is one of the most promising alternatives to fossil. Proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers are beneficial for hydrogen production because of their high current density, facile operation, and high gas purity. However, the large‐scale application of electrochemical water splitting to acidic electrolytes is severely limited by the sluggish kinetics of the anodic reaction and the inadequate development of corrosion‐ and highly oxidation‐resistant anode catalysts. Therefore, anode catalysts with excellent performance and long‐term durability must be developed for anodic oxygen evolution reactions (OER) in acidic media. This review comprehensively outlines three commonly employed strategies, namely, defect, phase, and structure engineering, to address the challenges within the acidic OER, while also identifying their existing limitations. Accordingly, the correlation between material design strategies and catalytic performance is discussed in terms of their contribution to high activity and long‐term stability. In addition, various nanostructures that can effectively enhance the catalyst performance at the mesoscale are summarized from the perspective of engineering technology, thus providing suitable strategies for catalyst design that satisfy industrial requirements. Finally, the challenges and future outlook in the area of acidic OER are presented.

Background: Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) — also termed presbycusis — is prevalent among older adults, leading to a range of issues. Although considerable progress in the understanding of ARHL over the decades, available reports lack data from recent years and do not comprehensively reflect the latest advancements and trends. Therefore, our study sought to assess research hotspots and trends in ARHL over the past 5 years to provide the basis for future research. Materials and methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was searched and screened from January 1, 2019 to October 21, 2023, according to the inclusion criteria. CiteSpace (5.8.R3), VOSviewer (1.6.19), and Microsoft Excel 2019 were employed for bibliometric analysis and visualization. Results: 3084 articles from 92 countries led by the United States and China were included. There has been a steady upward trend in the number of publications from 2019 to 2023. The most productive institutions, authors, and journals are Johns Hopkins University (n = 113), Lin FR (n = 66), and Ear and Hearing (n = 135), respectively. Trend topic analyses revealed that “cochlear synaptopathy” and “dementia” were the predominant foci. Keywords, including “individuals” and “national health”, began to appear. Conclusion: Over the past 5 years, the annual number of publications has increased significantly and will continue to do so. Research on the mechanism of ARHL, represented by “oxidative stress”, is a continuing focus. Emerging topics such as “individual differences” and “national health” may be potential future hotspots in this field.

Background: The pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome was strongly associated with compromised metabolism homeostasis and gut microbiota imbalance. NAFLD is a progressive metabolic liver disease for which effective interventions are lacking. Bile acids exhibited appreciable metabolic regulatory effects and selective antimicrobial activity. Aim of the study: This study was designed to investigate the effect of BBBP, which mainly contained bile acids, on NAFLD from the perspectives of gut microbiota and metabolomics. Materials and methods: The present study was initiated on the anti-NAFLD effect of BBBP in HFD-fed mice. The efficacy of BBBP was evaluated by mice phenotypes, liver histopathological analysis and serum lipid and glucose levels. The activation of bile acid receptors such as Nr1h4, Nr1i2 and S1pr2 were detected by qRT-PCR analysis. Subsequently, untargeted metabolomics coupled with microbiomics was used to explore the mechanism of BBBP against NAFLD. Human L02 hepatocytes induced by OA and PA were used to investigate the effect of GABA on reducing lipid accumulation in vitro. Results: BBBP significantly and dose-dependently alleviated the obese phenotype, lipid accumulation and liver injury in mice subjected to 18 weeks HFD diet. Untargeted metabolomics and microbiomics analysis revealed that BBBP could alleviate the disturbance of lipid and amino acid metabolism and the imbalance of gut microbiota. Furthermore, BBBP oral gavage activated liver bile acid receptors, as indicated by elevated mRNA levels of Nr1h4, Nr1i2 and S1pr2. Surprisingly, we determined that BBBP, which mainly contained bile acids that possessed antimicrobial activity, could promote the growth of Lactobacillus. Correlation analysis showed a remarkable correlation between Lactobacillus and endogenous metabolites such as valine, serine, glutamine, et al. Among them, GABA which could be produced by Lactobacillus significantly reduced the lipid accumulation in L02 cells. Conclusions: The role of BBBP in regulating lipid metabolism might be achieved by activating bile acid receptors, or partially by promoting the levels of Lactobacillus and its metabolites such as GABA. Our study provided evidence that BBBP could be a novel therapeutic candidate for the treatment of NAFLD.

The diamond coating was prepared on Q235 steel by adding WC micro-powder to a nickel-based filler metal during induction brazing. The effects of WC powder on the microstructure and wear resistance of the diamond coating were studied. The microstructure and wear resistance of the diamond coating were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy spectrum, microhardness and wear loss tests. The results show that during the brazing process, diamond and WC micro-powder form metallurgical bonds with the nickel-based brazing alloy. The WC particles contribute to dispersion strengthening and fine-grain strengthening effects in the nickel-based matrix. The Rockwell hardness of the brazing alloy with a mass fraction of 10% WC increases by 7.5% compared to that without WC. Under identical wear experimental conditions, the mass loss of the diamond coating without added WC micro-powder was 0.196 g, while the mass loss of the coating with WC micro-powder added was 0.148 g. The wear resistance of the latter increased by 24.5%.

Abstract Active sites identification in metal-free carbon materials is crucial for developing practical electrocatalysts, but resolving precise configuration of active site remains a challenge because of the elusive dynamic structural evolution process during reactions. Here, we reveal the dynamic active site identification process of oxygen modified defective graphene. First, the defect density and types of oxygen groups were precisely manipulated on graphene, combined with electrocatalytic performance evaluation, revealing a previously overlooked positive correlation relationship between the defect density and the 2 e- oxygen reduction performance. An electrocatalytic-driven oxygen groups redistribution phenomenon was observed, which narrows the scope of potential configurations of the active site. The dynamic evolution processes are monitored via multiple in-situ technologies and theoretical spectra simulations, resolving the configuration of major active sites (carbonyl on pentagon defect) and key intermediates (*OOH), in-depth understanding the catalytic mechanism and providing a research paradigm for metal-free carbon materials.

This paper proposes a prescribed performance fault-tolerant control based on a fixed-time extended state observer (FXTESO) for a carrier-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). First, the attitude motion model of the UAV is introduced. Secondly, the proposed FXTESO is designed to estimate the total disturbances including coupling, actuator faults and external disturbances. By using the barrier Lyapunov function (BLF), it is proved that under prescribed performance control (PPC), the attitude tracking error is stable within the prescribed range. The simulation results for tracking the desired attitude angle show that the average overshoot and stabilization time of PPC-FXTESO is 0.00455rad and 6.2s. Comparatively, the average overshoots of BSC-ESO and BSC-FTESO are 0.035rad and 0.027rad, with stabilization times of 14.97s and 12.56s, respectively. Therefore, the control scheme proposed in this paper outperforms other control schemes.

This paper introduces a fault-tolerant control scheme for the automatic carrier landing of carrier-based aircraft using direct lift control. The scheme combines radial basis function neural network and active disturbance rejection control (RBF-ADRC) to overcome the impact of actuator failures and external disturbances. First, the carrier-based aircraft model, the carrier air-wake model, and the actuator fault model were established. Secondly, ADRC is designed to estimate and compensate for actuator faults and disturbances in real time. RBFNN adjusts the ADRC controller parameters based on the system state. Then, the Lyapunov function is constructed to prove the stability of the closed-loop system. The controller is applied to the direct lift control channel, auxiliary attitude channel, and approach power compensation system. The direct lift control improves the performance of fixed-wing aircraft. Finally, comparative simulations were conducted under various actuator failures. The results demonstrate the remarkable fault tolerance of the RBF-ADRC scheme, enabling precise tracking of the desired glide path by the shipboard aircraft even in the presence of actuator failures.

In the past decades, remarkable progress has been achieved in the exploration of electrocatalysts with high activity, long durability, and low cost. Among these, defective graphene (DG)‐based catalysts are considered as one of the most potential substitutes for precious metal‐based electrocatalysts. DG‐based catalysts contain abundant active centers with different configurations resulting from their extraordinary high‐structural tunability. Herein, an overview on recent advancements in developing four kinds of DG‐based catalysts is presented: 1) heteroatoms‐doped graphene; 2) intrinsic DG (vacancy and topological defect); 3) nonmetal atoms or/and metal species‐modified intrinsic DG (heterogeneous species and intrinsic defects co‐tuned DG); and 4) DG‐based van der Waals‐type multilayered heterostructures. In particular, the synergistic effects between various defects are discussed, and the origin of catalytic activity is reviewed. Meanwhile, the established defect‐derived catalytic mechanism is summarized, which is beneficial for the rational design and fabrication of high‐performance electrocatalysts for practical energy‐related applications. Finally, challenges and future research directions on defect engineering in noble metal‐free materials for electrocatalysis are proposed.

Abstract Recent experimental and theoretical studies demonstrated microwave mode cooling and cavity quantum electrodynamics (C-QED) effects at room temperature by using optically cooled nitrogen-vacancy (NV) spins. In this article, we consider improvements of these effects by exploring parameters in recent diamond maser experiments with a high frequency microwave resonator. By accounting for the rich electronic and spin levels, we provide a more complete treatment of optical pumping and dissipation in NV centers, and study the dependence of system performance on laser power. We predict the reduction of microwave photon number down to 261 (equivalent to a temperature of 116 K), about five times lower than the values reported recently. We also predict the laser-power controlled C-QED effects across weak-to-strong coupling regimes, and observe saturation of these effects under strong laser pumping. Our model can be modified straightforwardly to investigate similar effects with other solid-state spins and possible C-QED effects in maser operation.

Background: Right ventricle-pulmonary arterial (RV-PA) coupling is considered the gold standard for assessing right ventricular (RV) function and can be evaluated noninvasively by echocardiography. The ratios of tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion/pulmonary artery systolic pressure (TAPSE/PASP), RV global longitudinal strain (G-RVLS)/PASP, and stroke volume/end-systolic volume (SV/ESV) have been proposed as surrogates of RV-PA coupling. The relationship of these parameters remains incompletely understood in patients with volume and pressure loading conditions. We aimed to compare these parameters and evaluate their relationship with 3D RV data in patients with RV pressure and volume overload. Methods: This study was performed on 110 individuals who underwent 2D and 3D echocardiography. Fifty-four patients had RV volume overload (atrial septal defect (ASD) group), 34 patients had RV pressure overload (pulmonary hypertension (PH) group), and 22 were controls. TAPSE/PASP, G-RVLS/PASP and SV/ESV ratios were calculated. Correlations between parameters of RV-PA coupling and 3D data were assessed using general linear mixed models. Results: Compared with the ASD group, the PH group had lower TAPSE/PASP and G-RVLS/PASP ratios. The SV/ESV ratio had a strong correlation with right ventricle ejection fraction (RVEF) in both ASD and PH patients (r = 0.8703, p < 0.001 and r = 0.9388, p < 0.001, respectively). The G-RVLS/PASP ratio showed a strong or moderately negative relationship with end-diastolic volume (EDV), ESV and SV (r = –0.7768, p = 0.001; r = –0.7327, p = 0.0005 and r = –0.6816, p = 0.0018, respectively) in PH patients. The TAPSE/PASP ratio showed moderately negative correlations with EDV and ESV (r = –0.5712, p = 0.0012 and r = –0.5594, p = 0.0016, respectively) in PH patients. Conclusions: Non-invasive RV-PA coupling parameters derived from echocardiography appear similar, but not identical to profiles in pressure-overloaded and volume-overloaded patients. The correlations between non-invasive RV-PA coupling parameters and 3D data displayed various degrees of correlation.

Plant architecture and organ size are considered as important traits in crop breeding and germplasm improvement. Although several factors affecting plant architecture and organ size have been identified in rice, the genetic and regulatory mechanisms remain to be elucidated. Here, we identified and characterized the small plant and organ 1 (spo1) mutant in rice (Oryza sativa), which exhibits narrow and rolled leaf, reductions in plant height, root length, and grain width, and other morphological defects. Map-based cloning revealed that SPO1 is allelic with OsCSLD4, a gene encoding the cellulose synthase-like protein D4, and is highly expressed in the roots at the seedling and tillering stages. Microscopic observation revealed the spo1 mutant had reduced number and width in leaf veins, smaller size of leaf bulliform cells, reduced cell length and cell area in the culm, and decreased width of epidermal cells in the outer glume of the grain. These results indicate the role of SPO1 in modulating cell division and cell expansion, which modulates plant architecture and organ size. It is showed that the contents of endogenous hormones including auxin, abscisic acid, gibberellin, and zeatin tested in the spo1 mutant were significantly altered, compared to the wild type. Furthermore, the transcriptome analysis revealed that the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are significantly enriched in the pathways associated with plant hormone signal transduction, cell cycle progression, and cell wall formation. These results indicated that the loss of SPO1/OsCSLD4 function disrupted cell wall cellulose synthase and hormones homeostasis and signaling, thus leading to smaller plant and organ size in spo1. Taken together, we suggest the functional role of SPO1/OsCSLD4 in the control of rice plant and organ size by modulating cell division and expansion, likely through the effects of multiple hormonal pathways on cell wall formation.

Distributed artificial intelligence is increasingly being applied to multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (multi-UAVs). This poses challenges to the distributed reconfiguration (DR) required for the optimal redeployment of multi-UAVs in the event of vehicle destruction. This paper presents a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning-based DR strategy (DRS) that optimizes the multi-UAV group redeployment in terms of swarm performance. To generate a two-layer DRS between multiple groups and a single group, a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning framework is developed in which a QMIX network determines the swarm redeployment, and each deep Q-network determines the single-group redeployment. The proposed method is simulated using Python and a case study demonstrates its effectiveness as a high-quality DRS for large-scale scenarios.

Abstract Cyclic peptides formed by disulfide bonds have been one large group of common drug candidates in drug development. Structural information of a peptide is essential to understand its interaction with its target. However, due to the high flexibility of peptides, it is difficult to sample the near-native conformations of a peptide. Here, we have developed an extended version of our MODPEP approach, named MODPEP2.0, to fast generate the conformations of cyclic peptides formed by a disulfide bond. MODPEP2.0 builds the three-dimensional (3D) structures of a cyclic peptide from scratch by assembling amino acids one by one onto the cyclic fragment based on the constructed rotamer and cyclic backbone libraries. Being tested on a data set of 193 diverse cyclic peptides, MODPEP2.0 obtained a considerable advantage in both accuracy and computational efficiency, compared with other sampling algorithms including PEP-FOLD, ETKDG, and modified ETKDG (mETKDG). MODPEP2.0 achieved a high sampling accuracy with an average C $$\alpha$$ α RMSD of 2.20 Å and 1.66 Å when 10 and 100 conformations were considered, respectively, compared with 3.41 Å and 2.62 Å for PEP-FOLD, 3.44 Å and 3.16 Å for ETKDG, 3.09 Å and 2.72 Å for mETKDG. MODPEP2.0 also reproduced experimental peptide structures for 81.35% of the test cases when an ensemble of 100 conformations were considered, compared with 54.95%, 37.50% and 50.00% for PEP-FOLD, ETKDG, and mETKDG. MODPEP2.0 is computationally efficient and can generate 100 peptide conformations in one second. MODPEP2.0 will be useful in sampling cyclic peptide structures and modeling related protein-peptide interactions, facilitating the development of cyclic peptide drugs.

In order to carry out a comprehensive design description of the specific architectural model of AI, the auxiliary model of AI and architectural spatial intelligence is deeply integrated, and flexible design is carried out according to the actual situation. AI assists in the generation of architectural intention and architectural form, mainly supporting academic and working theoretical models, promoting technological innovation, and thus improving the design efficiency of the architectural design industry. AI-aided architectural design enables every designer to achieve design freedom. At the same time, with the help of AI, architectural design can complete the corresponding work faster and more efficiently. With the help of AI technology, through the adjustment and optimization of keywords, AI automatically generates a batch of architectural space design schemes. Against this background, the auxiliary model of architectural space design is established through the literature research of the AI model, the architectural space intelligent auxiliary model, and the semantic network and the internal structure analysis of architectural space. Secondly, to ensure compliance with the three-dimensional characteristics of the architectural space from the data source, based on the analysis of the overall function and structure of space design, the intelligent design of the architectural space auxiliary by Deep Learning is carried out. Finally, it takes the 3D model selected in the UrbanScene3D data set as the research object, and the auxiliary performance of AI's architectural space intelligent model is tested. The research results show that with the increasing number of network nodes, the model fitting degree on the test data set and training data set is decreasing. The fitting curve of the comprehensive model shows that the intelligent design scheme of architectural space based on AI is superior to the traditional architectural design scheme. As the number of nodes in the network connection layer increases, the intelligent score of space temperature and humidity will continue to rise. The model can achieve the optimal intelligent auxiliary effect of architectural space. The research has practical application value for promoting the intelligent and digital transformation of architectural space design.

The linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex synthesises linear Ub chains which constitute a binding and activation platform for components of the TNF signalling pathway. One of the components of LUBAC is the ubiquitin ligase HOIL-1 which has been shown to generate oxyester linkages on several proteins and on linear polysaccharides. We show that HOIL-1 activity requires linear tetra-Ub binding which enables HOIL-1 to mono-ubiquitylate linear Ub chains and polysaccharides. Furthermore, we describe the crystal structure of a C-terminal tandem domain construct of HOIL-1 comprising the IBR and RING2 domains. Interestingly, the structure reveals a unique bi-nuclear Zn-cluster which substitutes the second zinc finger of the canonical RING2 fold. We identify the C-terminal histidine of this bi-nuclear Zn-cluster as the catalytic base required for the ubiquitylation activity of HOIL-1. Our study suggests that the unique zinc-coordinating architecture of RING2 provides a binding platform for ubiquitylation targets.

The development of multifunctional nanomaterials with bacterial imaging and killing activities is of great importance for the rapid diagnosis and timely treatment of bacterial infections. Herein, peptide-functionalized gold nanoclusters (CWR11-AuNCs) with high-intensity red fluorescence were successfully synthesized via a one-step method using CWR11 as a template and by optimizing the ratio of CWR11 to HAuCl4, reaction time, pH, and temperature. The CWR11-AuNCs bound to bacteria and exhibited selective fluorescence microscopy imaging properties, which is expected to provide a feasible method for locating and imaging bacteria in complex in vivo environments. In addition, CWR11-AuNCs not only retained the antibacterial and bactericidal activities of CWR11 but also exhibited certain inhibitory or killing effects on gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria and biofilms. The MICs of CWR11-AuNCs against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were 178 and 89 μg/ml, respectively. Surprisingly, cell viability in the CWR11-AuNC-treated group was greater than that in the CWR11-treated group, and the low cytotoxicity exhibited by the CWR11-AuNCs make them more promising for clinical applications.

Objectives: Early recanalization of large vessels in thromboembolism, such as myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke, is associated with improved clinical outcomes. Nitric oxide (NO), a biological gas signaling molecule, has been proven to protect against ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI). However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be explored. This study investigated whether NO could mitigate IRI and the role of NO during acoustic cavitation.Methods:In vivo, thrombi in the iliac artery of rats were induced by 5% FeCl3. NO-loaded microbubbles (NO-MBs) and ultrasound (US) were used to treat thrombi. B-mode and Doppler US and histological analyses were utilized to evaluate the thrombolysis effect in rats with thrombi. Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and western blotting were conducted to investigate the underlying mechanisms of NO during acoustic cavitation. In vitro, hypoxia was used to stimulate cells, and NO-MBs were employed to alleviate oxidative stress and apoptosis.Results: We developed NO-MBs that significantly improve the circulation time of NO in vivo, are visible, and effectively release therapeutic gas under US. US-targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) and NO-loaded UTMD (NO + UTMD) caused a significant decrease in the thrombus area and an increase in the recanalization rates and blood flow velocities compared to the control and US groups. We discovered that UTMD induced NO generation through activation of endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) in vivo. More importantly, we also observed significantly increased NO content and eNOS expression in the NO + UTMD group compared to the UTMD group. NO + UTMD can mitigate oxidative stress and apoptosis in the hind limb muscle without influencing blood pressure or liver and kidney functions. In vitro, NO-MBs alleviated oxidative stress and apoptosis in cells pretreated with hypoxia.Conclusion: Based on these data, UTMD affects the vascular endothelium by activating eNOS, and NO exerts a protective effect against IRI.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) threatens public health severely, which, luckily, can be governed by referring to its spatiotemporal distribution and key driving factors. However, very few explored it in the long-term, broadly, and systematically. In this study, nine Chinese key urban agglomerations were targeted to explore the spatial distribution of PM2.5 and the evolution of its major driving factors from 2000 to 2017. Spatiotemporal distribution and change tendency were evaluated by spatial autocorrelation analysis and dynamic time warping (DTW), and the entire research period was divided into four stages according to the evaluation. Subsequently, the geographical detector method (GDM) was adopted to quantify the relationship between anthropogenic and meteorological factors with PM2.5 concentration in the entire period and sub-stages. As the findings indicate: 1) In 2000–2017, PM2.5 concentration increased firstly in all agglomerations and then declined by fluctuation; it was mainly gathered in the plain areas where the core cities of urban agglomerations were located, with the highest concentration in North China. 2) Variation of PM2.5 concentration appeared similar tendency and regional aggregation, e.g., five urban agglomerations around the central plains urban agglomeration (CPUA) had similar patterns. 3) The Driving factors of PM2.5 showed noticeable spatiotemporal differences. It is indicated that the critical meteorological factors refer to temperature and air pressure, while the key anthropogenic factors are population density (PD) and road density (RD). Except for the population density showing a relatively persistent high influence on urban agglomeration, especially significant in northern China, the rest of the anthropogenic factors represented different characteristics. Specifically, the proportion of secondary industry (PSP) and gross domestic product per capita (GDPP) showed relatively strong effects in the early stage but weakening dramatically in the later stage. Foreign direct investment (FI) increased in developed urban agglomerations in the entire stage while showed a downward trend in underdeveloped cities. Road density was enhanced dramatically in the early stage but weakened slowly in the later stage. The findings reveal the change tendency of PM2.5 concentration in urban agglomerations and the evolution of its driving factors, which help the Chinese government adopt effective strategies to cope with pollution.

CO2 emissions from fossil energy have caused global climate problems and threatened human survival. However, there are few studies on the spatiotemporal distribution and driving factors of carbon emissions. This paper takes the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) urban agglomeration as the research object and analyzes the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of carbon dioxide emissions and their driving factors from 2000 to 2017. First, a series of preprocessing, such as resample, interpolation, and image clipping, are conducted on the CO2 emission data and nighttime light remote sensing images. Second, the dynamic time wrapping (DTW) and hierarchical clustering algorithms were involved in manipulating the CO2 emission data. Consequently, the cities’ and CO2 emissions’ time series were classified into four categories and three stages separately. Finally, the geographical detector model (GDM) and geographical and temporal weighted regression (GTWR) are coupled to evaluate the spatiotemporal heterogeneity and quantify the driving factors. The results show the following: (1) The spatiotemporal distribution of CO2 emissions has spatial consistency from 2000 to 2017. High-emission areas are concentrated in economically developed areas such as Shanghai, Suzhou, and Wuxi. The results are consistent with previous research. (2) Regional aggregation is a revealed new trend. CO2 emissions in the target urban areas are gradually converging into economic center cities and diverse class cities, e.g., Shanghai and Ningbo. (3) In cities of different economic development levels, the driving factors of CO2 emissions are different. The secondary sector and urban infrastructure dominate in the early stages of developed cities. On top of that, the influence of the tertiary industry is more significant in the later development stages. According to the results, in the urban development process, humans should not only pursue the increase in speed but also pay attention to the negative impact of the economic development process on the ecological environment. Besides, since the spatiotemporal characteristics and dominant factors of urban carbon emissions are different in each stage of development, the formulation of carbon reduction policies should be associated with urban features.

Objective This study aimed to investigate whether luteolin delays the progress of diabetic nephropathy (DN) induced by streptozotocin. Methods Fifty-three healthy, 8-week-old, male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into the control (n = 6), model (n = 23), and experimental groups (n = 24). The rat model of diabetic nephropathy was established by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. Rats in the experimental group were administered luteolin suspension of 80 mg/kg daily for 8 weeks. Blood glucose levels and body weight were recorded until the fourth week. After intragastric administration, blood flow and the protective effect of luteolin on diabetic nephropathy were evaluated. Results The degree of renal apoptosis and fibrosis in the experimental group was milder, and glomerular structure was more complete compared with the model group. Nphs2 staining suggested that luteolin delayed apoptosis and deletion and fusion of podocytes under high glucose levels, and protected the filtration function of the basement membrane by upregulating Nphs2 protein expression. Time intensity curve results suggested that luteolin delayed deterioration of renal haemodynamics under hyperglycaemia. Conclusions This study shows that luteolin delays progression of diabetic nephropathy. This drug has potential wide applicability in future clinical application.
