Post-mortem examination of goats of differing ages suspected for PPR revealed varying amount (30-50 ml) of serosanguinous fluid in thoracic cavity, congested and enlarged bronchial lymph nodes, frothy fluid with mucosal congestion in the trachea. Lungs revealed congestion and edema with grey and red hepatization. Congestion of intestinal mucosa and mesenteric lymph nodes were also observed. On histopathological examination, lungs revealed edema, haemorrhages, suppurative interstitial bronchopneumonia with giant cell infiltration and intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies in bronchiolar epithelium. Post-mortem examination of a desi chicken done at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, VCRI, Orathanadu revealed pale and thin breast muscle, empty crop and the crop mucosa had multiple circumscribed caseous patches. Proventriculus, gizzard and intestines were empty. The mucosa of the small intestine revealed congestion. Lungs and kidneys were pale. On cytological examination of the scrapings from crop mucosa, Trichomonas sp. could be seen. On histopathological examination, crop revealed multifocal irregular epithelial hyperplasia, necrosis with Trichomonas sp. organism. Aspergillosis in a Japanese quail was recorded in an organized Japanese quail layer breeder farm. The lungs revealed multiple dull grey nodules of 5-10mm. The air sac was thick and opaque. Histopathologically, mycotic granulomatous pneumonia, subacute airsacculitis, hepatosis, subacute peritonitis, and multifocal moderate lymphocytolysis in the spleen were recorded. A six month old sheep was presented with history of nodular lesions on lips and tail region with tick infestation. The random biopsy samples from nodules in lips and tail region were collected in 50% glycerol saline. The whole blood and peripheral blood smear were collected for haematological analysis. The haematological values showed normocytic hypochromic anemia. The peripheral blood smear revealed the presence of Theileria sp and Anaplasma sp in erythrocytes. Inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) was recorded in 8 weeks old Giriraja chicken in Tamil Nadu. The clinical signs included dullness, depression, mild greenish diarrhoea with low morbidity and high mortality. On post mortem examination, the liver was enlarged, pale to pale yellow with scattered petechiae. Cytological examination of the liver revealed micro to macro vacuolar changes in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes. The liver revealed intranuclear basophilic and eosinophilic inclusion bodies. The article discusses a study on the capacity of T-2 toxin, a naturally occurring mycotoxin produced by several species of the genus Fusarium, to induce apoptosis in thymus and spleen of Turkey Poults. Analysis revealed significant differences in mean percent thymic apoptosis and splenic necrosis between the control and toxin-treated groups. Findings also showed a crescent margination of the chromatin against the nuclear envelope in the T-2 toxin-induced apoptosis.

An ulcerated, reddish, firm, nodular mass was found in the vulva near the right dorsal mucocutaneous junction of the cow.

Bluetongue virus (BTV), a major peril to the sheep industry, infects a wide range of the cells in the infected animals including mononuclear, dendritic and epithelial cells. However, little is known about its tropism for the secretory epithelial cells of endocrine glands and the pathogenesis it induces. The aim of the study was to assess the BTV load, antigen distribution in the tissue of the pituitary, thyroid as well as adrenal glands and associated histopathological consequences. BTV antigens were localized using immunohistochemistry in the thyroid's epithelial cells, zona fasciculata and zona reticularis cells and the anterior pituitary epithelial cells. The real-time PCR portrayed the high viral load in adrenals at 7 th days postinoculation (DPI) and in thyroid and pituitary glands at 15 th DPI. Serum examination revealed variation in the T-3 and T-4 of infected animals in comparison to the control group. Caspase-3 immunolocalization revealed BTV-1 induces apoptosis in the affected cells of endocrine gland of infected animals. Further, this study signifies the tropism of BTV in the novel sites (endocrine glands) of the host that might be one of the reasons for the poor performance of infected animals.
