Trichomoniasis in a Desi Chicken.

Abstract

Post-mortem examination of a desi chicken done at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, VCRI, Orathanadu revealed pale and thin breast muscle, empty crop and the crop mucosa had multiple circumscribed caseous patches. Proventriculus, gizzard and intestines were empty. The mucosa of the small intestine revealed congestion. Lungs and kidneys were pale. On cytological examination of the scrapings from crop mucosa, Trichomonas sp. could be seen. On histopathological examination, crop revealed multifocal irregular epithelial hyperplasia, necrosis with Trichomonas sp. organism. Based on the gross, cytological and histopathological examination, the case was diagnosed as Trichomoniasis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
